The professors all make sure that you are keeping up, but at the same time, you are expected to keep up to the rigorous pace they set. We currently operate on a 4-1-4 calendar year. That means that fall semester is 4 months, we have a January Short Term and the spring semester is 4 months. This allows us to have a break because during short term, students are only allowed to take one class.

I grew up at Warren Wilson College, a liberal arts college in Western North Carolina, because my mom is a professor there. To find Berea, which has so many similar aspects to the beautiful college where I was raised, is such a blessing.

This school isn’t a piece of work. It is kind of like a facade to the public. The tuition is “free” but never really free.

i have to rate berea as one of the most top universities in south carolina. it's a lovely, safe filled campus that i would just love to attend my junior year of college and pursue my dreams and make a "remark"able impact on others around me.

very biased against out of state students. unless you are a genius, the faculty views you as an intruder who took away a spot from their own child and free tuition that they could have had if it wasn't for you.

if you never need help - the school is very good - if you find you need help in a subject - don't come here. nobody cares , you get lip service and they assign you a ta - who is really just mla mother student that know a fraction more than you do and that's it. the school lacks any compassion and they treat you like they own you. i have gone from a motivated student trying to learn - to a zombie having to do everything on my own with no help and a miserable experience exasperated by teachers that are fakes . if berea was not such a fake place of learning, maybe the faculty could see how truly useless they really are to people that need help.

The school provides a great academic opportunity for its students. Outdoors school with great scenery. Lacks any kind of night life.

There are simply no words to describe my experience at Berea College. This place changed my life! Aside from its stellar academics, outstanding work-study program, and culture of service and stewardship, this institution was HOME during my four-year experience as a college student.

Berea is gorgeous! The city is small, but gorgeous. And the campus is precious, I loved the time I spent there.

Berea College stands out from most other colleges in that it: has class sizes of 30 at most, is in a dry county, has a required labor program (making possible its nearly free education), and has comparatively high quality -but limited- science programs for a liberals arts college. Students power everything at Berea- from the cafeteria to the janitorial care of dorms to the secretaries in administrator offices. Nearly all students live on campus as it is the most affordable option, and the same can be said for cafeteria dining.

Berea College is a great institution resting in the mountains of Kentucky. While an excellent financial opportunity, it's also advised to be aware of the responsibilities you would be expected to uphold, as you will have to understand the balance between work, play and school. Expect the classrooms to be similar to high school, your privacy to be stripped and to generally be your own source of excitement.
