Categories Comments Clubs and Activities So many great clubs on Wednesdays, I'm part of the Life Drawing club and I love it!
Great for these types of students Great for people who just want to get their education and get out!
What to do for fun I like to go to the harbour and watch the ships between classes, it's very calming. :)
Food and Dining The food is ok, but there are plenty of great restaurants and shops around where you can get really good food
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor Classes are ok, you can pass if you try. Tutoring is also available.
Tips for prospective students Always check the syllabus! Be on time, if you're late 20 minutes they mark you absent!
In three sentences It's a pretty good school. The Fiterman building has great facilities, and the in the Main building they're ok. It's in a really good neighborhood, with good restaurants and stores. There are a lot of places to go sightsee between classes. Most of the professor's are cool and really nice, and will help you out as much as they can during their office hours.

Categories Comments What to do for fun bmcc is located in chambers street in new york city. there are so many places to go and travel. walking to the pier is beautiful, you get to experience the beauty of the hudson river and enjoy the view.
Food and Dining in the cafeteria there is a variety of choices but i wish there was a larger selection for vegetarian. there is a section of foods they prepare and pre-made selections for the students who are in a rush. overall, i would recommend every student to pass by and enjoy the food and the cafeteria which is mostly crowded but it is less crowded in the evenings.
Dorm Life there is no dorms in bmcc. i do think some students live there because they spend more than 8 hours in school. the students commute from home to school.
Academic Rigor i must admit going to a community college i thought the classes where going to be easier but most of my classes where actually challenging. the professors are great and the reason is that not only do they care for the students but they want us to do well when we graduate and transfer to a 4 year college. i decided to take writing intensive and honors courses to develop a deeper understanding in the subjects and i have enjoyed it.
Tips for prospective students take advantage of all the opportunities given in the college such as b.o.l.t, p.lu.s, peer mentoring, joining a club and more. focus in your classes, get a high gpa and take honors courses. having the balance of school work and extracurricular activities is what is going to make your college experience amazing.
In three sentences "start here go anywhere" is the schools motto. it is a community college that is known for its diversity and culture. the professors and staff cares for the students and value education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very secure school. An officer arrested a student while taking the entrance exam, so if you have a warrant...
Great for these types of students Last minute students who forgot to apply to college.
Food and Dining They have a good cafeteria.
Dorm Life No dorm life.
Academic Rigor Expect a lot of work
Tips for prospective students Keep all copies of paperwork. Verify everything.
In three sentences It's a great school if you like being counted absent because they decide that this week you have class on Tuesday and next week you'll have class on Friday instead. The school will not follow the schedule you agreed upon. If you're a veteran, I would stay away from this school as they will lose paperwork and your benefits won't come in until the end of the semester if your lucky.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Each campus is installed with cameras and security guards walking throughout the building. In other to enter you must bring your IDwhich cost $10 for a replacement if lost. If not you must provide the 4 digits of your social.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of activities to choose from that change throughout the fall and winter seasons. Almost all the clubs are hosted on Wednesday from 2-4. Plenty of people to meet, and useful peers who assist you to grow and develop your interest.
What to do for fun There are plenty of clubs and events that take place within the BMCC main campus. People are encouraged to participate if they seek fun or credit. Every Wednesday clubs are hosted and BMCC has a club fair for people to talk to others to learn what the club will be about.
Food and Dining BMCC has two campuses which hold small cafes if you'd like to relax and eat before your next class. The schools also provide vending machines of snacks if your on the go. Close to BMCC are several delis and fast food restaurants. You can also find food carts and small independent restaurants .
Dorm Life BMCC doesn't have dorms.
Academic Rigor Professor provide you instructions both vocally and on paper of what the class is generally about. These rules tell you what you need to achieve and go on to the next classes. Grades are always important and teachers will provide you information on what is due when, or if there will be any changes.
Tips for prospective students Teachers and tutors are able to assist you with classes when help is needed. Fliers are provided to help out with financial aid and plenty of programs to help you will personal needs and education. Students are willing to help you and be your friend if you need someone to go to.
In three sentences This college has 3 campuses located a walks distance away from each other and located close to city hall. This school is a small CUNY perfect for people trying to get back into school, or for people who are trying to discover what interest them the most. Bmcc has a close community for everyone to get along.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe, they have security at every exit/entrance and and they have a few more making rounds on every floor.
Greek Life Don't really know of any others besides Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society.
Clubs and Activities Unfortunately because I worked full time I wasn't able to partake in any clubs or activities. I was however in Phi Theta Kappa which is a community college honor society. That was pretty cool.
Great for these types of students Any types, this school has a very diverse student population.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The computer lab on the 1st floor is so confusing to get to the first few times, lol. You'll see.
Bang for the buck School was great, I learned a lot and didn't go broke getting my first degree. Professor really care and work with you and the students there are all cool and striving for a great life so every one is pretty much on the same page. I can't really speak for taking classes in the day. But going to school in the night was pretty great at BMCC.
What to do for fun Take a walk near the water by the school. There is even mini golf nearby and an AMC movie theater.
Food and Dining Food is ehh in the school. But you can find many great things to eat outside of the school in close proximity.
Academic Rigor I was able to attend school full time and work full time and managed to graduate with honors with a 3.7 GPA. The work is doable but you have to manage your time wisely and give the professor your undivided attention in class. Bonus questions on exams are always on something the professor brought up in class.
Tips for prospective students Listen to everything the professor's tell you. Most of the time, what you're discussing in class is more important than the readings you do on your own at home so PAY ATTENTION!
In three sentences Great and understanding professors for almost all the night classes. Workload is manageable even with a full time job. Location is fantastic in downtown Manhattan.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities there is a club for every class they give and also tutoring centers for every class.
Great for these types of students great for people trying to reintegrate themselves with the school system
Bang for the buck Most other CUNY and SUNY colleges are around the same price and have large campuses and are 4 year colleges with better programs.
What to do for fun The main campus has a park and a small sitting area. the school itself does not have many fun stuff except for certain clubs but the surrounding area is full of culture, stores and restaurants.
Food and Dining there are 3 buildings and all of them have their own cafes and cafeterias but the surrounding area has every type of food place starting from 7/11 to fine dining.
Dorm Life does not have dorm life
Academic Rigor i found it too easy but for many people i go with the work load is decent.
Tips for prospective students this is great college the teacher are very responsive and do not give work load. it is also not too hard or too easy. its perfect for people to easily adjust without feeling overwhelmed or under challenged. Just dont skip more then 3 hours of class or the teachers take serious action.
In three sentences BMCC though a community college is very good educationally and environmentally. the teachers are all professionals and either have gone to a top tier college or teach in one.

Categories Comments What to do for fun This really depends on the person themselves. There are basketball courts and tennis courts on campus if those interest you. For those knowledgeable of the city, you can get to anywhere via the MTA.
Food and Dining The food prepared on campus is not bad, typical stuff you would find in the city. You get your vending machines, microwaves, hot water and such. For the most part, most students venture outside campus where there are a plethora of food options.
Dorm Life Being a local two year CUNY institute, there are no dorms on campus. All students travel to and from their homes.
Academic Rigor Depending on the specific class, the rigor of the courses can be extremely easy or semi-difficult. A lot of things factor in, such as the professor, the size of the classes and the subject matter. Often, you'll be in a class where all the students just follow the professor's instructions verbatim; learning from the textbooks, powerpoint presentations and et cetera. There are other professors who are more free-willed and teach on-the-fly, who expect you to challenge yourself.
Tips for prospective students As this is a CUNY college, don't expect the world. Come in, handle your business and be on your way. The education you receive and the faculty here are meant to support you on your way to higher goals in life.
In three sentences A pretty satisfying beginning college experience. The students are friendly, the staff and faculty is dependable and the campuses are spacious.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe most of the time. I have never felt in danger , but security can't be everywhere at once.
Greek Life There is no Greek life.
Great for these types of students BMCC is great for students that did not do well in high school and want a second chance to succeed. Also great for first generation students and low income students.
What to do for fun I think that some of the clubs are fun to be a part of. It depends on what the club does. There are also parties every semester like the Halloween party on October 31. There are game nights and other activities.
Food and Dining i don't like the food from the cafeteria personally. I prefer to go to eat nearby at Palermo Pizzeria or at Little Italy Pizza. There is a Whole Foods nearby.
Dorm Life There is not a dorm room for BMCC students.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are not hard if you study enough and do all the assignments. Some professors are really mean for no reason. Those types are harder to please. Most of the professors I heave had have given us the study topics for exams in class and/or have put them on blackboard. They also have office hours if you need help.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in something from your first semester until you graduate. It could be a club, sports team or volunteering on( or off) campus. Too many students are not involved and are missing a lot of opportunity because they are not involved. Being involved can help you make friends, feel connected to the campus, can help you get a job or into a 4 year institution after you graduate. I regret not being involved for my first few semesters. Being involved can make you feel less stressed from college work. Do not work full time and attend BMCC full time if you want to get enough sleep, study, do your assignments and be healthy. If you feel that a teacher is too strict or difficult swap that class with another class during the first week of classes. Plan and pick your courses carefully. Take classes that you know you will do well in, that fulfill your requirements and that will transfer to the 4 year school you choose. You do not have to take the classes that the advisors tell you to take. There are various options for fulfilling your requirements. I took all the classes that the advisor told me to take during my first semester and I struggled and was put on academic probation during my second semester. That cost me a lot of opportunities. I could recommend some professors if you want.
In three sentences BMCC is a great college. There are a lot of activities on campus. There are a lot of good professors that want us to succeed if you can find out who they are.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe here. You have to scan you ID to get in and the NYPD school safety is all over the place.
Great for these types of students Great for kids that dont really know what they wanna do with there life just yet or dont know what they wanna study. This college gives u room to make up your mind and just do the basics.
Bang for the buck cheap and worth it.
What to do for fun Of course being in downtown NYC the night life is amazing, there are so many happy hour spots and bars you just have to walk down the street and find the one of your liking.
Food and Dining Because its in the middle of the financial district in downtown nyc there are an endless array of places to eat from every country you can think of.
Dorm Life no Dorms
Academic Rigor The teachers are ok. Before picking classes i would say go on rate my professor to see what your getting first. There are some jems at this school there classes just fill up really fast.
Tips for prospective students DO EVERYTHING AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. In this school if u wait to do anything you will be left behind and the staff will be of no help at all.
In three sentences ready. set. GO!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Swiping your student ID is always required.
What to do for fun Activities like swimming, roam around the city while on break when you have large gaps between classes.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has an area where you can use the computers and a lot of seating area to eat your food while you also multi-task to study. Although, it can get pretty loud and crowded.
Tips for prospective students Get in the know. Connect with as many people as you can. Join activities and be a part of anything that interests you.
In three sentences The environment is great. There are three separate buildings and Fiterman has a very professional vibe. CUNY BMCC has great opportunities and there are many spots for you to study quietly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety From what I see, an excellent job of ensuring safety of lots of students who attend the college done through an integrated web of security (I guess). I know entrance requires swipe of ID card which supposedly tracks access of students via database storage, it gathers basic statistics basically (like frequency of attempted access, time of swipe etc.).
Greek Life Eh. I believe they have an Alpha branch.
Clubs and Activities They attempt to diversify it (I recently saw an ad for Rowing Club) but the college in itself is not really designed to accommodate numerous social functions.
Great for these types of students Intelligent urbanites looking to save some money on first two years of college education. Those who want to work full-time and go to school full-time. Those who only need a two-year degree for career aspiration fulfillment.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Uhhh...
Bang for the buck You get a degree for just about cheaper than...anywhere else. The CUNY system is quite convenient in this way.
What to do for fun Eh. Join a club or sports team. Facility has a swimming pool as well. The neighborhood (Tribeca) has host of options for the wanderer or open-minded.
Food and Dining Eh. Decent enough I guess, sometimes grab a banana or apple. Luckily student government is planning on working with community to integrate Chipotle and neighboring food chains into the mix for much needed diversity.
Dorm Life Dorm life is non-existent. It's a community college attended by students who mostly split time between work and school.
Academic Rigor Of course this is partially based on the individual's difficulty of schedule. However for the most part not too rigorous. Nursing and medical facilities probably receive the most emphasis.
Tips for prospective students Understand the purpose of this college (cheaper education for eventual graduation/transfer), keep your grades as high as possible (of course) and understand that this school is nested in a busy hub (Tribeca neighborhood) with a lot of students, making familiarity something of a chore for the passive, introverted or (most common) busy.
In three sentences CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a good, affordable option for students who wish to earn their Associates Degree, spend a year or two increasing their GPA so they can transfer to a 4-year college or university, or those seeking to cut down on college costs in general by spending a year or two at home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You always have to show our swipe your id going into the buildings and the security is always somewhere.
Greek Life Has non
Bang for the buck If your strapped for chase this is a great school because its $2,000 full time per semester. It may not be BA but its a step.
What to do for fun My commute is about an hour each way so I don't take part in college activities.
Food and Dining The main building has a cafeteria the food is ok and the prices are reasonable. A slice of pizza on campus cost the same as a slice off so I go off for that. You have several subway sandwich shops around and a MCD's down the block that has better prices.
Dorm Life This is an off campus living school.
Academic Rigor The writing intensive classes are very demanding, but as a standard I think what makes a class easy or hard is more from the professors than school standards.
Tips for prospective students Because its a commuter school always plan to be at your first class of the day a half hour early. Take advantage of the free tutoring.
In three sentences Affordable compared to most of the schools in the city. Small classes 20:1. You always know what classes you need to take.

Dorm Life I dont live on campus
Academic Rigor Be prepared to write a lot, study more, sleep less after the 1st year!
Tips for prospective students Always check the manhattan book store on chamber street if they have the textbook listed in the syllabus, because it's always cheaper than the school store! Register for classes in time so you won't be stuck with an awful schedule. Attend seminars, it's a great way to network! Make it a goal to have something said at each class.
In three sentences The first two semesters your going to be stuck with immature kids who just graduated high school. Don't worry! It only gets better because you get into classes you actually like! You meet people from all walks of life with similar interests as you!

Categories Comments What to do for fun I usually just go to the gym there's a lot of activities in the gym. But I usually just go there to lift weight. if you walk around the halls of the main building than you'll find this billboards on the side of the wall with a bunch papers stick to it. Most of the papers over there are like offers to the debate club or writing tutors or mainly activities that the college is offering.
Food and Dining The cafeteria looks okay I mean from an angle that you are standing it looks like high school again except that nobody is throwing each other food, fighting or insulting them selves. The environment is more likely like high school in the main building, but if you go to Fitterman hall its way better I mean they don't have a cafeteria they have a simple coffee shop I think sponsored by starbucks but its more quietly and it has a good amount of space that if you buy yourself a snack with some coffee or hot chocolate you can actually study or even have a good conversation with a friend.
Dorm Life Well I don't have a dorm life I live with my parent but I heard its really cool living around here I don't have much to say.
Academic Rigor Some professors are really strict specially when you have a paper due most of professors don't believe in being late that's just a lazy excuse of you not doing the paper, they don't believe in extra credit. if he or she grades your assignment and you don't weren't expecting that grade and you want to make it better the professor will give you that chance.
Tips for prospective students Don't think that only because its a community college is bad thing. Think about like an opportunity from here you can actually take some time and think what suits you. what carrier is the best for you. if you come in here and have this thoughts that it wasn't what you were looking for than you will never progress. Remember bad mentality leads into bad paths.
In three sentences Good Professors they give a brief explaining of everything Good Ambient when you are officially an student it seems like its home already= They offer everything to scholarships, internships and tutors

Academic Rigor I'm a Video Art & Technology major so it can be hard but at times it can be easy because I have a strong passion for what I'm pursuing. Just work on your time management and you'll be fine.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus was safe. No problem at all. Security is everywhere. The school is located in a very wealthy part of manhattan so its as safe as it gets!
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities Clubs met on Wednesdays. They had alot of activities for students. I was very impressed. You would catch me at the music club producing/networking/and songwriting with artists. Definatley join the clubs in the school for great networking opportunties and also a way to make plenty of friends.
Great for these types of students Outgoing, Love the city life, Fast paced life, Music/Fashion/Entertainment. Students who know what they want out of New York City. When you come to the city know exactley what you want and what you came there for and you will be incredibly successful.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I used to go to SOHO every day which is a trendy fashion area on canal street. I was into music and fashion so I was always out there networking and trying to meet anybody who I could to advance my career.
Bang for the buck PERFECT! This is the best thing about this school. Its very affordable!
What to do for fun I came with no friends from out of state completley on my own. I am into music so I joined the music club and networked and made plenty of friends. Theres also soo much to do in New York that this is probably the best location in NYC for having fun because BMCC is right in the middle of manhattan.
Food and Dining Food is good. Decently priced and convenienty located. Only problem for me was they didnt take debit cards so I had to pay cash so I preferred to just run to food spots in the area.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at this school.
Academic Rigor Depends on the professor. Id have to say the academics were very strong and challenging. I learned alot at this school from the professors because I used ratemyprofessor.com to pick the right teachers. A few bad teachers here and there but in general things were good as long as I used ratemyprofessor to confirm the teachers history.
Tips for prospective students Come here take your classes. Use ratemyprofessor.com to check teachers because some are horrable. Dont graduate from BMCC unless you have a strong GPA. if your GPA is under 3.0 just transfer out elseware because it will be difficult to raise it depending on how many more classes you need to graduate. And just remember that the school completley deserts you after you graduate. Your on your own. They dont help you get a job, get into other schools, get internships. NOTHING. So make sure to go out and explore New York city and find your opportunities for yourself just using BMCC as a educational reference only.
In three sentences Affordable education....But absolutley no support from college after graduation. After you graduate they kick you to the curb. They take your ID and force you to have to pay for a alumni ID card. Also you have to pay for any other CUNY transfer applications. They have absolutley no career placement service for graduates unless you pay for it. I cant even get into the school without paying and I am an alumni. I think that is rediculous. The only benefit that I recieved is very affordable education. based on (in-state) rates

What to do for fun BMCC has a variety of clubs and Athletic teams that students of all backgrounds would be able to participate and enjoy. If there happens to be a club that is not offered you would be able to start your own.
Food and Dining The Dining Area in the chambers street Building offers many different foods. From sandwiches to pizza. The food is well prepared and always satisfying. In the Fitterman building you can pick up something hot to drink from the mini Starbucks menu, and the cafe also has a nice little selection of breakfast munchies.
Dorm Life No on campus housing
Academic Rigor The professors challenge you enough. pushing you to further your understanding of material given, but not over pushing to the point of wanting to drop the class. They help you understand the work and have you thinking on college level and above.
Tips for prospective students Step into the New semester with a positive outlook on what's to come after you transfer. BMCC will prepare you academically on your road to a degree in what you love to do.

Categories Comments What to do for fun It's in the city, so pretty much everything is fair game. Hopefully, you have friends here already because it can be difficult to make any, unless you become an active member in clubs.
Food and Dining New York City has so many food choices to offer, take advantage! The food court in the school is okay for something quick but it isn't that cheap and the quality is lacking.
Dorm Life There are no dorms. Its a commuter school.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the classes you sign up for. If you have to do remedial, expect a high school level class. If you want high level courses pay attention to the numbers next to your course name, they usually indicate academic rigor, if they are high. Make sure you take classes you need! Research before enrolling in a class!
Tips for prospective students Do your research. Schedule lots of time in the admissions office. It usually takes pretty long to get anything done. Make sure you're proactive in your studies and that college is something you really want. Know why you're here.
In three sentences With the introduction of CUNY Pathways, BMCC is going to take you where you want to go. If that place is another CUNY school. It's a nice school with nice resources but its still keeping you in the city.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This college is located right next to the WTC Memorial. The safety level could not be any higher.
Clubs and Activities BMCC offers a wide variety of clubs for all the races that attend the college. Latino club, African club, Asian Club, Jewish Club, and also clubs for the students with the highest GPAs. Phi Theta Kappa has a chapter at BMCC and many of the best students are part of it.
Great for these types of students Is the best choice for international students starting a career in the U.S.
Bang for the buck As an international student I consider this community college the best place to start a career in NYC for it is very affordable and the education quality is above the community colleges average.
What to do for fun The campus is located very near to touristic places such as Battery Park, Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall, World Trade Center Memorial, so even as a student, you can spend some breaks doing tourist stuff to relax a little bit from all the stress that class can give you.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has a great variety of food and at a very affordable price. It is convenient and worth the money.
Academic Rigor The first semesters tend to be very easy but as you get to more advanced classes it gets tougher. Nonetheless, professors tend to be very flexible with students most of the times because they know that almost everyone, besides going to college, has a job. Some professors just go to lecture without explaining anything. However, most of them go to teach the lessons and make sure that the students understand the material.
Tips for prospective students Do not complain about the professors that make you work more than usual; that extra work gives great results when applying for scholarships and more. Do not wait to the last minute to schedule your classes otherwise you will complain about your schedule. Take advantage of the wide variety of class hours that the college offers.
In three sentences Flexible with class scheduling. Extremely close to all transportation. Affordable good college to start a career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is pretty...I don;t know the word. There aren't metal detectors, but we have to swipe our cards in now, as opposed to the usual wave I was used to. And I never go from one class to another without spotting a security guard. So I feel safe.
What to do for fun What is there not to do in the heart of Tribeca. We're right next to the Hudson River, so there's skateparks, dog parks, mini golf...Not too far off is a movie theater, Barnes and Nobles, and so much more.
Food and Dining The food has really been good. They even up the ante and added sushi, so most people are satisfied. I know I am a happy camper.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life sadly at this community college.
Academic Rigor I've had some bad professors, but the only thing that makes them bad on my terms is the grading system. Other than that, they are very knowledgeable.
Tips for prospective students Befriend the students there because it'll help you get a better feel of how the system works.

If you want to try something different then there are also Indian and Asian restaurants that may interest you. there are also juice and yogurt bars that are easy to get if you are on the go.
Dorm Life No Dorm life
Academic Rigor The courses offered are interesting and to some even difficult. It depends on the student because if the student wants to learn and really is focused then the curriculum would not be hard for him. The courses i took really taught me some interesting things that i never knew before and i believe BMCC does make its courses challenging in order for the student to be motivated to learn more.
Tips for prospective students Whoever that choose this college will not regret it. It has many courses to choose from and very convenient to get to. Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety here is first since the college is located in the financial district there is security and law enforcement officials patrolling the area 24/7.
Great for these types of students Hardworking, dedicated, and ambitious.
Bang for the buck This is the best part of this school it's price cannot get any better , I pay about $1900 and I am taking 14 credits which makes me a full-time student at the moment. Most folks start off by paying $20000 and up for each semester and are inundated by debt once they graduate, here that is not case , you will be debt free by the time you get your degree.
What to do for fun There are tons of things and activities in which you can participate in and out of the school. For example clubs host meetings in the school every week, and the college itself host's workshops of all kinds. My favorite activity that I like to do for fun takes place outside of school. I love to walk the financial district and learn about the history that surrounds it for example three blocks away from the main building of the college stands the freedom tower, and a couple of blocks away sits Wall Street. It's simply fascinating to even look outside.
Food and Dining The Cafeteria food is nothing out of the ordinary and is somewhat expensive, however food around the college is really good. You have several popular healthy places to choose from including Whole foods market, Chipotle, and several multicultural restaurants.
Dorm Life I really can't say anything about the dorm life in the school due to the simple fact that I have never lived in a dorm nor do I know anyone who has lived in a dorm on the school.
Academic Rigor As I have said if you stay focused and disciplined you will not have a problem with the courses that you will be assigned to. There are professors that may seem a bit hard, and stubborn, but it doesn't necessarily mean that will you not make it, you just have to listen, read the material , and try to get feedback from them every class you attend.
Tips for prospective students If you want to succeed in this school, it's really simple first you have to have discipline in order to keep your grades in good shape, and second of all you have to set goals throughout the school year to guide you, and lastly you have to network with students and staff that way you will feel comfortable and always have someone to help you out.
In three sentences The Borough of Manhattan Community College is a great start for many upcoming students who wish to thrive and succeed in life. The college is located at the heart of the financial district in Lower Manhattan, in which everyday you are there you are surrounded by history and culture. The faculty and students here are hard working and always help you to meet your goals.

What to do for fun There are many bars there if you are over the age of 21 to go to after a long day of school and relax and just mingle with friends. The school is located about 15 minutes away from SOHO so after classes you can walk there and look around and see what stores there are.
Food and Dining It's better to bring your own food with you as they have microwaves there to heat up your food
Dorm Life Better to commute than live in the dorms
Academic Rigor There are some professors that if they really care about you will push you to excel. Some classes are very competitive especially the science and math and English classes.
Tips for prospective students Don't play around when it comes to your studies just because it is a community college. There are different cultures and different backgrounds that can help you. There are different clubs you can join and there are opportunites available so take advantage.
In three sentences There are few professors here that truly care for you and are willing to help. Its' better to come to school, go to your classes and leave..socializing can be very distracting at times. There are many scholarships you can apply for, all you have to do is ask.

Food and Dining The cafeteria has a great selection of food, and it's very reliable because if you're late for class you can quickly pick something up.

Categories Comments Food and Dining There is food locations everywhere you turn around BMCC. McDonald's directly across the street and Subway right up the block. If those spots dont catch your interest a few pizza places are around the are and convenient stores.
Dorm Life Unfortunately BMCC doesn't offer dorm locations but that doesn't stop the heart of where its located. Right in TRIBECA you never miss a beat of the city life.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor in BMCC is done very well. All my professors I've had thus far really care about the students and really make sure you understand the material. On the off chance you dont understand they are willing to take the time out to help. Granted if you dont put in the work not much can be done to help. You have to show your trying or willing to learn to make anything happen.

Greek Life I really don't care for.
Clubs and Activities They have economics and business clubs. They also have sororities and fraternities as well, but they don't really bring a buzz.
Great for these types of students If your a parent, new to the country and or employed full time or part time. They offer evening classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If I have a lot of time before I go to school, I usually go to the library or computer resource room to catch up on class work and discussions.
Bang for the buck Financial Aid with TAP should cover all the tuition fees and costs to attend the school, as long as you qualify.
What to do for fun They are affiliated with Tribeca Film Company. They always have amazing plays going on through out the year.
Food and Dining They have a decent area for dining, but the food is pretty expensive. Not top quality whatsoever.
Dorm Life This is not an on campus living facility.
Academic Rigor BMCC understands that people have lives outside of college. The work that most professors hand out is not that difficult.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for crowded hallways if your running late for class. They also offer weekend courses.
In three sentences Its an excellent experience to be able to go to school which is surrounded by the beautiful Hudson River. BMCC has excellent programs for qualified candidates to be able to complete college in a timely manner.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Relatively safe. The campus is in a wealthy, snooty area of Manhattan.
Greek Life None what so ever...
Clubs and Activities There are not that many clubs and creating a new club requires a ridiculous amount of running around (in circles even). Many offices are oblivious to the actions and purpose of other related offices. There is a lot of misinformation.
Great for these types of students Students who are new to College life and College responsibilities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Chinatown is very close to the school. As well as Wall street. These are the only notable locations nearby save for the incomplete Ground Zero area.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for I suppose...Many offices are oblivious to the actions and purpose of other related offices. There is a lot of misinformation.
What to do for fun I only go to the school gym which is lack luster in itself. There is not much to do in this College.
Tips for prospective students Just come to this school, study and focus. A lot of the other students as well as some of the office workers here are surprisingly casual and unprofessional. Some are, not all. Many offices are oblivious to the actions and purpose of other related offices. There is a lot of misinformation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety has vastly improved in the last year or so. IDs are required upon entering and in the main building you'll roll by these new machines (they're still being worked on however).
Bang for the buck Good campus and prices are cheaper than any Monroe or Stanford Brown. They have a scholarship office for students who are interested. Overall nice location and I would put 5 stars for this but the rooms can sometimes be a little snug. I think they are improving on that. Since last semester some rooms have been moved or enlarged. BMCC is improving.
What to do for fun I love to visit the pier that's nearly a block away from the school. It's nice to sit down for a bit and watch the skyline and relax. For others I'd recommend clubs and sports. The school has a gym, pool, swimming team, and basketball team. If you're not into sports work on your problem solving skills with the chess team.
Food and Dining The food is alright. I say that because it can be expensive. Salads, sandwiches, and cooked foods are usually available. Nice place for a snack but can be costly.
Dorm Life No dorms here, unless you count those outside units that the school sometimes uses for classes. (Don't take classes there I hear it's cold in the winter) If you go to the school or visit you'll know what I'm talking about.
Academic Rigor The professors are down to earth. Most are very understanding and are willing to put in extra time with you after class so that you can understand a concept. They can also direct you to tutoring centers. There are also sections in the library where people are more than willing to help if you need it. When classes get tough there are always resources to help you push through and get that A you deserve.
Tips for prospective students My best tip would be to know your major and which prerequisites are needed for your intended major. Have a plan and stick to it or else you can easily end up spending over 2 years in the school (and this goes for any two year college or program). And don't give up! Sometimes things get tough but stick to it and you can achieve anything.
In three sentences I just wanted to take the time to tell everyone how much I love BMCC. For a huge community college it is incredible. I've never had trouble applying for classes or getting tutoring or any general information. It is organized for a large school, plus it's in downtown Manhattan surrounded by lots of restaurants, stores, and a beautiful pier students can visit during breaks.

Food and Dining Even the food is diverse. They have a Nathan's right in the cafeteria.
Academic Rigor Classes are the same at any institute, but here the teachers are dedicated to making sure each student is on track and completely understands each lesson and is prepared to pass the course.

Dorm Life no dorms
Academic Rigor know your strong subjects and go for them first take on your harder classes one at a time and dont overload yourself with classes. its better to take that extra semester and do good then to pile on the work and end up just doing average. Dont be afraid to ask questions a lot of the time you classmates are wondering the same thing but feel just as scared to ask as you do.
Tips for prospective students Get involved with the school. ie. clubs, sga. Don't slack on your work this is not high school there is no second chance. also use ratemyproffesor.com its a good way to guarantee yourself a good semester. Use the free tutoring from the very begining it will save you a lot of stress and worry when it comes to midterms and finals especially since you are paying for it anyways.

Great for these types of students Lazy, barely high school grads ha.
Bang for the buck Cheap school is cheap.
What to do for fun Not much. I mean, there's the library, Life Drawing club on Wednesdays and Saturdays I believe, and the big ol' bleachers on the 4th floor where everyone does their thing, but that's about it.
Food and Dining Food's pretty good. I recommend the chicken sandwich.
Dorm Life Ha, what dorm life.
Academic Rigor The teachers are nice and some of them are actually helpful. But some of the classes seem a bit meaningless.
Tips for prospective students Like I said, it's perfect if you're not ready to go to college just yet, it feels just like high school, only... bigger? More open? The teachers make you buy unnecessary textbooks. The people here are pretty cool though.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is always safe. There dozens of security guards all over the place. there are several security guards in the cafeteria, in the library, in the gym, in the main entrance of the college, and in almost every floor you see two security guards.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for almost every intended major. For example I am part of the Accounting club because that is my major. Other clubs are BMCC Accounting Club, BMCC Chess Club, BMCC Dance Club, BMCC Rowing Club, Badminton Club, Business Enterprise Club, Caribbean Students Association, Catholic Campus Ministry, Cheerleading Club, Dominican Students Association, Fashion Club, Foot ball Club, French Speaking Club, Future Alumni Club, Health & Wellness Club, Hip Not Magazine, Human Services Club, International Relations Club, Latino Honor Society, Life Drawing Club, Math Club, Music Club, Muslim Students Association, N.Y. Tribeca Campus Lions Club, Non-Traditional Career Society, Nursing Club, Organization for Students Veterans, Respiratory Therapy Club, Sculpture Club, Soccer Club,The Health & Wellness Club, The Running Club, Travel & Tourism Club, UNICEF Campus Initiative Club, Yoga, Empowerment and Service Club, and many more.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are about 25,000 students that attend BMCC every day, with that in mind you can guess that there is no enough room to hold all of them. Therefore the college has several locations to hold classes. One of the locations is two blocks away from the main campus in murray street, there is another location in in-wood (Washington Heights), there are also trailers where classes are given outside the school right in front of the Hudson River. You have the opportunity to select each one of these locations when you are registering for classes online.
What to do for fun The college offers Samba classes, Yoga classes, and once in a while they offer cheap tickets for comedy shows from ABC.
Food and Dining There is a very nice cafeteria in the second floor where you can find anything that pleases you; such as Hispanic food, American food, ice cream, beverages, cookies and many more things.
Dorm Life Borough of Manhattan Community College does not have a campus.
Academic Rigor The college have excellent professors who care a lot about their students. They are always there for you when you need a hand.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend you to stay focus on what your goals are and to do not let anything bring you down. Study every chapter before you go over it in class because that is one advantage that will allow you to understand everything when the professor explains it in class. Finally my last tip is that you should review yours notes every weekend so that when you have the class exam you just have to refresh your memory and everything pops out.
In three sentences I think this is a good college for those students like me that have to work full time and study at the same time. This college offers a very good class schedule from 7 am to 11 pm. On top of that it offers free tutoring to those students who need it and the professors are always available when needed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe and there is security at every door nigh and day to insure the safety of the students. The neighborhood outside the school, TriBeCa, is even safer.
Greek Life This doesn't apply to BMCC:)
Clubs and Activities There is a great scholarship offered by the school, your one requirement is to take part in school activities and clubs. I would suggest any club that opens more doors for you in the field your pursuing, but any way to get involved is great!
Great for these types of students I would say this school is great for someone who lives close by, or wants the best education while preparing to go to a four year institution.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are queit computer labs and super clean bathroom facilities on the basement level, I reccommend going there for either.
Bang for the buck I feel as if this school is worth every penny. Always apply for financial aid, but even if you don't qualify the prices are very fair.
What to do for fun Join clubs and become involved with the school. There are many incentives and it's a great way to network.
Food and Dining The food is not bad, but there are greater options steps from the school. The cafeteria is large, but always on the crowded side with loud people.
Dorm Life This school doesn't have a dorm:)
Academic Rigor I would say, results may vary with every professor. I've had some very lenient teachers and also very thorough teachers. Study hard and make every effort to get the grade you want and deserve. I was admitted into NYU for the fall 2012, though I worked very hard I had some really great professors.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to meet deadlines as after the dates it's hard to get in due to the overflow of new students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus surrounding are safe, but the down fall is that there is many constructions going on and the street are very narrow which is dangerous for students while walking and cars that may be speeding.
Great for these types of students Whole foods and Barnes and Nobles is a great place together with your friends to eat and discuss about assignments, exams, and about each other.
Food and Dining There are many place to eat around the campus. One block away there is Whole foods Market which has a buffet that you can choose, and other snacks, and food you can insistently purchase. Two blocks away there is a pizzeria that have a variety of different flavors of pizza. Also, there is a chinese buffet thats about 3 block away that have very good selection of entrees and have reasonable prices.
Dorm Life In campus there is no dorms but if you where to live around campus it would be extremely expensive and noisy 24.7. Expensive because is around wall street, where the world trade center was located, all the transportations are nearby, local stores, and attractions. Noisy because there is way to much constructions going on in about every block.
Academic Rigor In my opinion some professors teaches very well, meaning that they constantly repeat the material and take time to go over the lecture thoroughly so every student can understand. Theres other professors that will tell you read the materials at home and come back with questions, or some will go through the lecture in a rush.
In three sentences There are many attractions and local stores are the campus that are useful for every types of students there's, barnes and nobles, whole foods, century 21, taste D lite, chipotle, and other shopping stores and groceries. Also every transportation is there 1,2,3,4,5,6,A,C,E, ETC.

Tips for prospective students if this is your option make this a start but go on to something better don't get stuck here it's really not a great college experience.
In three sentences For it to be a CUNY college it has great professors that show that they are here for the students and that they do care, as for the environment it feels like high school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the school has security guards almost everywhere. It is a safe school
Clubs and Activities there are many clubs to choose from. I haven't joined a club because of my schedule, but there are many options in clubs and sports in the school.
Great for these types of students BMCC is a great school for those who did not do so well in high school and now are not able to get into a four year school. The school helps get your grades up and prepare you for a four year school. This school is also great for those who have a busy schedule. People who have to work, like me, can benefit from there night classes that run late and their online classes.
Bang for the buck If you ever have any breaks in between classes you can always walk around the location of the school. There is lots to do. BMCC is located near the trains and on train times square in located 10 minutes away from the school.
Food and Dining BMCC has a cafeteria with many options to eat. from pizza to Spanish food to a salad bar. Because it is located in Tribeca in Manhattan there are many places to eat surrounding the school.
Dorm Life there are no dorms at BMCC because it is a community college
Academic Rigor Great professors for the most part. They also have a helpful staff.
Tips for prospective students Like every other school, as long as you do your work you will be okay.
In three sentences BMCC is a good community college. I was able to attend here and learn a lot. Many of the professors I had were very helpful. They took time out to work with the students and for the most part help them enough to get good grades in the classes. This school is located in New York City which makes it convenient to get to because of the trains and buses that get you there. It is also a very good school for those who work. I took up night classes because of work. And to my surprise many others take them also. BMCC is a good community college

Categories Comments Campus Safety They check everyone to make sure they have proper CUNY ID. Guards on every floor or entrance/exit. Not bad.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs you can join!
Bang for the buck A lot of people complain but I'm grateful BMCC even exists. So far my professors have been good and at a level of thinking you would expect a professor to be. I think it's worth it to come here, even if its just as a stepping stone.
What to do for fun Check out the Theatre department :) Oh, and there's a pool in the school! I'm still discovering what else there is to do though...
Food and Dining Haven't eaten from their cafeteria but there are loads of places around the school's area where you can eat!
Dorm Life No such thing.
Academic Rigor So far so good. The teachers really want to help and they challenge their students to do as best as they can.
Tips for prospective students Honestly, just do your work! You will be respected by your teachers and your peers, and you will better yourself as well. Don't slack off because if you do, you'll be spending more than 2-3 years here, which should not be the case!
In three sentences My professors are intelligent. They push their students to do more than the minimum. BMCC is a great start for anyone wishing to pursue higher education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student who would like a great start on their learning path should attend BMCC.
What to do for fun Clubs, gym, pool and just socialize
Tips for prospective students Tips I have for prospective students would be to start school with an end goal in mind and never loose sight of it. Focus on time-management as it is essential while being a full-time student especially if one may have a job or other time-consuming activities in their life. Always remember if you work hard you should play hard, I say that because there are high depression rates amongst college students so remember to squeeze a bit of social time (of course only when all duties are complete). This last bit of advice goes hand in hand with the tips provided above as I also believe it is very important to prioritize accordingly as you will notice your college experience being that much easier.
In three sentences CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College is a great school. Prior to attending the school I had preconceived notions that were not good; however, while attending BMCC, the school exceeded my expectations. BMCC offers many programs and workshops that are in the student’s best interest including: financial advisement, job readiness, tutoring, social groups ECT.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Although the School is outstanding in all other areas, security is somewhat mediocre and can be improved as time goes on.
Clubs and Activities The clubs at BMCC range from Math clubs to fashion clubs. There must be a club that fits your persona and matches the type or person one may be.
Great for these types of students The Institution is open to all types of person's, no matter what background or ethnicity one may be.
Bang for the buck The institution is top notch in regards to cost. Even though the tuition may be miniscule, one has an opportunity to obtain a superb and well gratifying learning experience, not to mention the experience of a diverse community of incredible people.
What to do for fun The school offers a variety of activities that cater to everyone of different descent and background. for instance, Caribbean shows and music, Arts festivals, classical music concerts, fashion shows and many more invigorating activities.
Food and Dining Food and dining is that of a high caliber. From freshly cooked meals to a large open cafeteria hall in order to eat, which is always maintained and kept incredibly clean and flawless.
Academic Rigor The Courses offered at BMCC are somewhat rigorous, especially the natural sciences. For it requires a significant amount of time as well as full participation in the classes.
Tips for prospective students Bmcc is an outstanding school and should not be taken for granted even though it is a community college, it offers an extensive and challenging set of courses that are fully on par with other classes offered at four year institutions.
In three sentences Bmcc is a great school that prepares one for the rigorous and challenging work load that lies ahead in four year colleges. In addition, the institution possesses incredible teacher's who are outstanding at what they do as well as are very willing to aid you in your problems.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is full of security. Everywhere you turn there is a security officer present and some of them are very nice.
Greek Life There are a few sororities and fraternities but be careful when joining one because if you plan on transferring colleges you will not be able to join another sorority or fraternity at your present school.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of collegiate activities to go around.
Great for these types of students There is a huge library located in the building as well as a lab area where there is free printing.
Bang for the buck You cannot go wrong with any community college. It is cheap for a reason.

Food and Dining The food is expensive but it is okay. Burgers, Hot Dogs, Cold Sandwiches, and Salads are sold and there re plenty of vending machines in the cafe which is huge.
Dorm Life There are NO dorms at BMCC.
Academic Rigor The work load and rigor varies amongst the levels and the professors. If you work hard and study you will get As and Bs. Do not slack off because you have an easy professor because your professor after that may not be so easy.
Tips for prospective students -ONLY attend this CC if it is your LAST option because in my opinion attending a 4-year university would be much better than a 2-year college in the long run. -The food is okay and it is quite expensive so bringing your own snacks with you would be a good idea. -The area around the school is BEAUTIFUL but in the winters it gets very cold because the Hudson river 2 blocks away so dress in layers. -Join an extra-curricular activity to pass your time. -Be very social and join clubs.
In three sentences CUNY BMCC is a very diverse community college. It consists of teenagers who grades were not high enough to get in to a 4-year college or who were not able to afford a 4-year college and adults who want to go back to school and get a degree. The staff are helpful and some students are nice. BMCC is what you make it.
