Read MoreIf you take Art classes at CNM realize that even though it's a two year school the head of the Art department forces so much down the students throats that you might as well be in a four year college, and doing Upper Division work. I took a Painting\_1 class, and was never taught techniques for oil painting or mixing paint. Before we even started the class we had to build and gesso canvas's to paint on. Without any previous training I was stood in front of still life's in a dark room initially, and told to paint with oil (which takes days to dry). We had to buy a $200 kit, but it didn't contain the supplies that we needed entirely. Without all of the necessary supplies (special brushes for blending) we were forced to paint a project with the requirement of blending out paint. We had to paint one painting a week and as much as was required in a regular Semester (this was summer 2016). I couldn't figure out how to manage that much work with the lack of training. We had to know how to mix paints in order to get certain off colors. It was unbelievable that we were required to do that much. I breathed a lot of oil/ chemicals at home. The Art department has classes in only 4 or 5 rooms on the main campus. They are over crowded with things, and there's minimal storage. There are no regular open studio person all week, or a place to go at all hours to complete your work. In.
