Am learning a lot
I rated this an amazing 5 stars out of 5 because I am learning a lot in my prerequisite classes. Interesting things I would have never known about if I wasn't required to take those classes. These prerequisite classes make students very well-rounded and informative on a lot of different topics. I took a Geology class which isn't related to my Business major, yet I learned about how the earth was formed and how it keeps changing. I also heard a few of the terms I learned in that class when I went whitewater river rafting this summer and knew exactly what our guide was talking about! So you may think: When will I ever use this in real life? and guess what you actually do!

The thriving town of Fort Collins is jam packed with an amazing atmosphere! You have to visit it to see! It has hookah bars, a few night clubs, bars, bowling, movies, Fort Fun, hiking, biking, Horsetooth Reservoir, Old Town with fun shops and fine dining, and much more. It is a college town and everyone is super nice and friendly!
Bang for the buck
You truly do get your bang for your buck! CSU offers newly released movies on campus for two or three dollars and sometimes for even free! When you are a student at CSU you get to utilize the Rec Center which is included in your student fees and also tickets to the AMAZING Football Games at Hughes Stadium, free printing on campus, WI-FI Internet on campus, and much more!
Tips for prospective students
Don't be afraid to try something new like an intramural sport or an art class. Just approach it with an open-mind, because remember everyone was in your shoes once. Make the most of your college experience because these are the best years of your life!
Great for these types of students
Colorado State University is great for any type of Student. The University offers such a vast majority of majors that any would feel comfortable there. From Business to Veterinary to Engineering to Plant Sciences to Construction. Everyone will fit in!

The adjustment from High School to College was a difficult one. In high school, you may spend one hour on homework a night however, you are in class all day. With college being opposite, it was a difficult adjustment. However, Colorado State does a very good job of teaching during class and that helps with this change. Every professor I have had thus far does an exceptionally good job on using their time given to make sure they teach exactly what we need to know. Since we are in class for such a short period of time, they also use this time to tell us what we need to study and guide our studying by making their expectations clear on what they would like us to know. I have found that this is teaching me a lot. Instead of trying to learn everything in the textbook, I am aware of what is important and what is not. I rate this section 5 stars because the teachers are great at what they do and informing us on what we need to know.

Coming from out of state, I was very unsure about my college choice. I was leaving a very close group of friends and I was expecting to be very homesick. However, I was surprised when the opposite happened. Everyone at Colorado State University is very welcoming and friendly. A countless number of people opened up to me and approached me. This helped me make friends very easily. The environment is very open and excepting. However, the students are not the only ones that are making my experience a great one. The staff is also helping with this. All professors always have their door open and allow you to come talk to them whenever you would like. This helps a lot when your struggling or just need a few words of advice. Dorm life has also been a great experience. All dorms make sure that they give you opportunities to meet people. They have events in every dorm once a week that every student is allowed to attend. These events take place in the various dorms and it is a great opportunity to meet people. Overall, I have enjoyed being a Colorado State.
Bang for the buck
Colorado State is worth every penny. Compared to other colleges, it's tuition is normal as far as price goes. While that can be expensive, coming from out of state, I can say it is worth it. The classes choices are numerous and ever professor I have had is doing a great job. The campus is beautiful and easily accessible. It is easy to get around and the everything is walking distance. Colorado State had been designed to be worth every cent that they charge.
Tips for prospective students
My first tip would be to take college visit. See the campus and the city. This is definitely help make your decision because the campus is so beautiful. Also, look into every major they have. They do have a wide variety of majors, however, they are specialized in certain ones so if you are thinking about one of these then CSU is a great choice. If you decide to come, come with an open mind and an outgoing spirit. Weather you are coming from a near by city or out of state, it is always nice to meet new people. Be open to all types of people and be the one to start a conversation with a stranger. Get involved. Colorado State University has tons of clubs and activities. There is a club for every type of person, Join these. This way, you will meet people that have the same interest as you. Pick to live with someone you have never met before. This way, you are not just hanging out with the same people from high school. Overall, when coming to Colorado State, come with the an accepting attitude and be ready to have a great college experience.
Great for these types of students
Colorado State is great for any type of student. However it is exceptionally good for a person who loves our environment. CSU is a green campus and is very involved in recycling. This makes a clean campus. Also, CSU is great for science majors. They are specialized in this field so any student who is interested in the science field.

The professors are very diverse, showing you many different teaching styles, so you can decide how you learn best! There are dozens of places to study: whether you like a quiet peaceful field of grass, or a buzzing coffee shop.
Am enjoying being here
I have lived in Fort Collins all of my life and I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy staying here for school. I figured it was worth a shot and decided to enroll at CSU. I could not be happier with my decision! The campus is absolutely beautiful and everyone is helpful and welcoming. Now let's talk about the location: Fort Collins! We've got the best of all worlds. We have mountains, the country side, and the city all in one area. There are tons of things to do around town: including bars, coffee shops, art galleries, restaurants, and shopping centers.
Bang for the buck
CSU is pretty expensive, just like any other University. However, the knowledge gained by attending this school is well worth the cost. And there are always scholarships to apply for!
Tips for prospective students
Ask for help. Your professors will be more than willing to help you, but they need to know when you need assistance. The best way to connect with your professors is by going to their office hours. Also, get involved! It's always nice to have someone to study with or hang out with, so meet some new people by joining a club!
Great for these types of students
CSU has a pretty diverse student population. We welcome anyone who desires to spend their years of higher education on our campus. This school is great, and I recommend anyone who wants a city feel without the rush to at least visit our campus!

Am learning a lot
This university has one of the best Natural Sciences programs in the country so I am privileged to be able to attend and learn from some of the most talented professors. Each one of my professors is passionate and outspoken on the subject that they teach as well as eager to make sure I learn and succeed in the process.
Am enjoying being here
The environment is incredible, the atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. Fort Collins is an amazing town and makes me feel right at home. The town is just as supportive and pumped about the university as the student body, so even the locals are very friendly. There is a clear balance between academics and social life at CSU so people don't get caught up in one or the other. It's very easy to get overwhelmed with academics but CSU does a great job of promoting school events and giving the opportunity to release some of that stress.
Bang for the buck
Every college is obviously going to cost a decent amount but CSU is worth every penny. The knowledge I have learned in addition to the social experience I have had is completely worth the cost. There is plenty of financial aid out there to lower the cost of tuition but even without that, there should be no price tag on the knowledge, friends and experiences that will come out of an incredible journey at CSU.
Tips for prospective students
If you're a freshman, get involved with your hall. They are the people you will be living with for an entire year, become friendly with them when you first move in and you will have a better social experience. Also, take advantage of all the sporting events that CSU has. They are very fun to attend especially when you show school spirit get pumped for the athletic team.
Great for these types of students
CSU is great for any type of student. I have honestly met a plethora of students and not one hasn't felt part of the CSU community. There will be something or some group on campus that you will feel part of and CSU does a great job of making sure that happens. In the beginning of the year, there is a couple of club fairs that can really help get a student involved, that is the best way to find your niche.

CSU is a great university for students. It has great programs and classes. Not to mention that the campus is very beautiful!
Tips for prospective students
If your considering if CSU is the school for you then I would say that a couple of things. You don't have to be extremely smart to get accepted here. I think CSU is more about learning then just memorizing things. The faculty is very helpful and friendly. Other students that go here are unique and different. It's interesting to see all the people who have come from different places and had different lives. This makes CSU a great place to learn more about other people's background.
Academic Rigor
I would say that the academic rigor is decent. The work is where you have to actually try in classes. Which can be difficult for some people who are just use to having easy classes in high school. However I think the difficulty is very much worth it. It opens the door for you to learn things better if you struggle with the concepts and then finally are able to understand them. That way the information will stick better for you.
Dorm Life
I love dorm life. I have lived in the dorms for two years now and plan to live there for my entire college career. I just love the idea of living on campus with everything close to me. Not to mention getting all the sleep I can possibly accomplish, meaning I won't have to wake up super early to catch a bus to campus. Plus the dorms are super nice. There are the traditional dorms on campus where the entire floor shares a bathroom, which is called community style. These are cleaned every day, but not on the weekends. And then there are the suite-style bathrooms which a fewer people share a bathroom(3-4 people would share). these get cleaned once a week. My dorm is relatively quiet and everyone gets along with everyone and has respect for others. There are events set up by our RA that we all can do and we have dinner together every once in a while.
Food and Dining
I love the food!!! Each dinning center on campus has a variety of different food for you to enjoy. There is also options for vegetarians and vegans. The dining centers are very considerate for others who have different diets. There also the food court in the LSC, which has a some fast food restaurants that we all enjoys. Eating on campus is very affordable for students. Some including Subway, Panda, Carls Jr.,Taco Bell, and more. The majority of the time I eat on campus and I haven't got tired of the food yet!
What to do for fun
Normally what I do for fun is explore Fort Collins. Hiking to the A or going to Old town to enjoy some food and shopping. You can also go to Horsetooth Reservoir which is extremely beautiful. The mountains are a great place to hike and enjoy the views that you observe. Mostly though I hang out with friends and we plan fun things to do.
Campus Safety
CSU campus is relatively safe. I feel safe and comfortable on campus. Normally during finals week I'll stay on campus to 3:00am with other friends studying and I feel completely safe when I walk back to my dorm during this time. If your not comfortable walking alone late at night you can also call Safe Walk and two people will walk you where you need to go. There are also call boxes on campus if there is an emergency and there is the CSU police department on campus that do patrols. Overall I feel very safe on campus!

Even though CSU doesn't receive as much national recognition as most public universities, the quality of the facilities and professors is undeniably equal if not exceeding the national standard. Even in the large general elective classes that every student has to take, the teachers make a point to provide times to meet with students and address their concerns not only with the class but also with any other problems they may be having. After a year and a half at Colorado State, I can say that only one professor I have had so far hasn't been enthusiastic about their subject and willing to answer any questions the class had. Plus, if you ever want to find out more about your professor before you ever take a class, RamRatings.com provides student-submitted reviews of practically every teacher at the university. Overall, Colorado State provides a well-rounded learning experience regardless of your chosen major and ensures students are prepared for life after college.
Am enjoying being here
On top of the newly-renovated student recreation center, the world class dining centers and the vibrant downtown area, the entire community of Fort Collins is possibly the most welcoming place you could imagine. After knowing practically everyone in my graduating class, I was afraid that I would have trouble meeting and connecting with entirely new people. I shouldn't have worried at all. CSU offers a vast array of student clubs, organizations and social events that provide opportunities for every type of personality to get involved, including the Outdoor Club, Associated Students of CSU (student government), Humans vs Zombies Club, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, a healthy Greek system and numerous competitive club sports. Even outside the university grounds there is something for everyone. You could visit one of the outstanding local restaurants in Old Town Fort Collins, take a hike up to Horsetooth Rock, cheer on the Rams at Hughes Stadium, take part in the yearly Tour de Fat bike festival, go for a swim in Horsetooth reservoir and dance the night away at a concert in the Aggie Theater all in one weekend. When you combine these factors, you get the ideal college experience in a supportive, energetic environment. What more could you ask for?
Bang for the buck
The one issue that Colorado State has is not even one that it can control. In recent years, tuition rates have been spiking as the state government of Colorado continues to cut funding for post-secondary education. As a result, tuition has increased at increments of 3-6% for almost a decade. It kills me to have to say it but the truth is that these tuition increases aren't likely to stop any time soon either. Despite this, Colorado State still remains comparable in cost to most other national public universities AND costs less than in-state rival CU-Boulder. Even with all of this, I would never consider transferring to another school. I couldn't imagine getting the same quality education and college experience at any other school and I will always be proud to say I am a CSU Ram.
Tips for prospective students
In general, visit as many campuses as possible. The more you see, the better you can compare what you do and don't like about each college. Also, don't sit around your dorm room and wait to meet people. I guarantee that going to even a couple meetings for clubs that you are interested in will result in you making new friends (particularly at CSU). Don't be afraid to ask your professors for help either because they know that college is a big transition academically from high school and they will give you as much help as they can (once again, especially at CSU). Specifically for Colorado State, be sure to take a campus tour from the Admissions office when you visit. The guides are students at Colorado State and they are extremely nice and willing to address any questions or concerns you may have about the university. Finally, and most importantly, be honest with yourself. If you don't think a school is right for you, don't feel obligated to go there because of the college is some big name university or its where your parents or friends went. I was a National Merit Finalist and could have gone to virtually any school I wanted but I chose CSU because when I visited, I felt at home. I'm not trying to say that Colorado State is perfect for everyone, I just want every prospective student who reads this to know that they will know when they've found the right school for them.
Great for these types of students
As I've said before, CSU has something for everyone and the university as a whole prides itself on attracting such a vast array of students. From a specifically academic standpoint, though, the Colleges of Engineering, Natural Resources, Natural Sciences and Agriculture are consistently recognized as some of the premier ones in the country. The College of Business is also garnering more and more national attention and the veterinary program continues to attract some of the brightest students in America. Outside the classroom, the outdoorsy, adventurous student will definitely find a million things to love about Colorado and even those looking for a big-city experience can appreciate the nightlife in Old Town. Oh anyone who loves to eat (everyone) will love the selection of restaurants around the city. Overall, CSU and Fort Collins can appeal to just about everyone.

Although there are many lecture classes with up to 500 students, most of the classes specifically for your major are very hands on and educational. Professors are very eager to help you learn and make it enjoyable to excel.
Am enjoying being here
Coming from a small town myself makes me love Fort Collins even more. It's a large city with small town feel where you can hike on trails, take a bike ride, or swim in Horsetooth, but if you want to to something exciting there are always clubs, bars, and tons of great places to eat.
Bang for the buck
Being an out-of-state student has disadvantages of having a large financial burden, however CSU is worth every penny to me. I would not change colleges for anything and think it is well worth my money.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure you tour the college before you go and also get to know your roommate in the dorms before you move in via Facebook, instant message, or phone call.. It helps make the living situation easy from the start.
Great for these types of students
Students in the College of Agriculture have a huge advantage I feel since the school was originally intended for those students and then expanded. Theses professors put their hearts and souls into everything they do. GO AGGIES!

CSU is known as the "Harvard of the West." It is one of the most affordable public universities in Colorado and is nationally renowned for many of its programs as well as research. Also, it is in one of the most beautiful places in the country: Northern Colorado's Front Range!
Tips for prospective students
If you can, go to campus and meet with the departments you are interested in. They will provide you with free parking for the day, give you a tour of campus, and let you sit in on any of the classes that are happening. It will really give you a feel for the university and what departments you would fit best in. Remember that they want you to attend their school before any other ones, so don't be shy!

Also, don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions about cost of attendance, scholarships and financial aid. If you go to the Student Financial Services office try to talk to the nice lady with black, braided hair: she is extremely friendly and helpful!
Academic Rigor
Each academic major will have a "capstone" class in your senior year. It will be difficult, and a lot of work, and it will come with a "capstone project" that will showcase the skills and knowledge you have developed over the last four years.

Many departments and majors are also starting to require real-world experience. Some majors (like mine in Health & Exercise Science) implement this through required practicums. These you register for like a class, but spend most or all of your time in an internship-like experience. Other departments require documented community volunteer service or shadowing hours before you can register for certain classes and graduate.
Dorm Life
Many of the dorms are organized into "academic villages" around campus, and you will be put in a dorm with other students from your academic department. The main floors of these villages have dining halls, lounges, and study/meeting areas for individuals or groups to work on homework. These villages develop personalities and you really feel like you are a part of a community when you are living here.
Food and Dining
Like I mentioned in Dorm Life, many of the dorm villages have their own dining halls that are open early/late and even all night in some places! There is a huge dining hall in Lory Student Center on the main floor with restaurants like Panda Express, Subway, Hardees and others.

But the very best part is that there is a pub in the basement of Lory. Seriously. If you are at least 21 years old, you can purchase beer from local breweries and buy pizza or other pub food to be delivered to your table as you study. It is the best place ever.
What to do for fun
On campus there are numerous activities. You can go to the fitness center and climb the rock wall, take group fitness classes or rent outdoor equipment for a camping trip. You can join any of the hundreds of student clubs on campus: anything from intramural sports, book clubs, religious groups, to Greek life. The university regularly hosts musical acts throughout the year. Mackelmore did a show my senior year!

Off campus there is even more to do. Fort Collins is renowned for its "bikability" and hiking trails. You can take a bike ride anywhere in the city limits, follow the paved trail all along the Poudre River, or go up any of the dozens of hiking trails in the surrounding foothills. Horsetooth Reservoir is a great place to spend hot summer days swimming, boating, water skiing, and getting a nice tan.

Fort Collins is also known for its microbrewery industry. If you are of age, touring the breweries around town is a lot of fun. The famous New Belgium Brewery is on the east side of town, but I preferred the atmosphere and beer at Odell's.
Bang for the buck
If you work hard, get good grades, and develop a portfolio of work/practicum experience, you will have an outstanding resume by the time you graduate. CSU has a great reputation for producing intelligent and skilled professionals, and employers will like to see that you have a degree from here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
If you are lucky, you might get to witness (or participate) in the annual Undie Run. Mostly involving freshman at the end of their first year, a large group is organized to run across campus in nothing but your underwear once finals week is over.

There is also the Tony Frank's Beard fan club you can join if you learn to love the university president and his beard as much as everyone else does.
Great for these types of students
If you love the outdoors, hiking, mountain biking, camping, agriculture, diversity, beer, pizza, and the color green you will like it at CSU. If you are environmentally conscious, a sun-lover, interested in health and fitness, and like Rams you will like it here. If you don't mind constant construction and remodeling, lots of snow, and the huge flock of Canadian geese that land on campus each year, you will do just fine.
Clubs and Activities
Literally anything you are interested in, there is a group for it at CSU. And if not, you can make your own group and will definitely find other people with similar interested.
Greek Life
I wasn't a part of Greek Life, but I can tell you that many of the houses have upstanding reputations in town. They do a lot of community service, host their own scholarships, and provide a really tight-knit family to their members.
Campus Safety
I won't lie to you, it is not safe to be female and alone on campus after dark. There are reports of mugging and sexual assaults on campus every year.

The CSUPD provides 24/7 patrols on campus, and there is the Safe Ride program where you can call a number and get a free ride across campus (and sometimes to locations off campus but close-by) either from the CSUPD or a group of security volunteers. There are free services to help keep you safe, but CSU does not have a good reputation here.

A beautiful campus with dedicated teachers and students. Everyone is very passionate about their field, very friendly, and respectful of surroundings. We like to have fun but are serious about our life goals.
Tips for prospective students
For engineering, veteranarian studies, and natural sciences and resources studies this is an amazing school. Other majors are important but not as outstanding as these departments (you can see it in the university funding). The campus is very bike friendly, just don't break the rules and you won't get a ticket. And the town itself is amazing, there is a lot to do and see even if you're under 21. Just make sure you keep track of the work you need to do. In college you don't have a lot of free time no matter what your major is, and the free time that you do have could very well be catered towards your social life. If you like to have time to yourself, do it. If you like to see friends, plan with them. Don't ever just sit around bored out of your mind because you think you have nothing to do. Believe me, you will ALWAYS have something to do. Apply for scholarships, get a job, go for a run, see the town. Anything. Just don't waste any time.
Academic Rigor
It all depends on the class you're taking and the teacher you have. For example, engineering classes have a lot of the research professors as professors, so the curriculum is generally very rigorous even if the topic isn't necessarily hard to learn. Also, most classes have a routine you need to follow (like homework is due every Monday at 3, and you will have about 8 to 12 problems from the book all on the topics you learned in the past week) so it's easy to keep track of what you need to do. You will probably have an average of 4 classes a semester, and most classes are 50 minutes long for 3 days a week. That doesn't give you a lot of time to actually learn the material in class, so you need to study it on your own. If a class doesn't give a lot of homework, you need to do practice problems or something in order to ensure you're actually learning from the class. I'd say the academic rigor is high for any department as long as you're willing to put in the amount of work that is expected of a college student. I know many people who don't even study outside of class and who put off work, and they don't excel in college.
Dorm Life
Most of the dorms are kind of run down, but the newer ones like academic village are very nice to live in. If you get along with the people in your hall, you're going to have a fun time. My closest friends are my hall mates even after we moved out of the dorms we still take the time to hang out with each other. For some people, the dorms are just a place to slee, so their social lives are somewhere else. For others, the dorms are their social life. With me, I didn't know many people outside of my hall, and we were all very close. But I know other people who didn't interact with their hall.
Food and Dining
The food is tasty and, if you keep track of what you're eating, can be healthy for you, but the variety gets old pretty fast. I hardly ate in the actual dining hall but rather went to the express very often, so I didn't really eat a lot of actual meals. The express is very good though since you can get a lot of food for just one meal swipe. However, if you want an unlimited amount of food, you need to eat in the actual dining hall because you swipe in and you can stay for as long as you want and eat whatever you want that's available.
What to do for fun
You could go see a movie the theaters are close. Make friends with someone with a car or have your own. There's fort fun, bowling, roller blading, and movies. Old Town is fun to walk around when its warm and the stores are open since its pretty fun to see the different things there are. And there are always people throwing parties and fundraisers and events going on, so there really is a lot to do. CSU also does a fair share of putting on events that aren't extravagant but are great to go to for a little bit of fun.
Bang for the buck
You definitely should apply for scholarships (the more money the better) but as an out-of-state student who's flight costs $1000 round trip every year, the price is tight but not undoable. And if you put a lot of effort into your classes, the price is worth what you learn, as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
One thing to look forward to every year is homecoming, because they do fireworks and a bonfire out on the intramural fields, and it really is a great time to spend with friends. Another thing that is a must-see is the Rocky Mountain showdown between CU. It's a lot of fun and everyone has a great time, even if it is based off of a huge rivalry. There is also the concert that CSU puts on every year in the fall semester that usually has a great artist (this past year was Macklemore) and is fun to go to with friends. Sports games are always fun to go to if you're into that. The plaza by the Lory Student Center always has something going on (someone handing out flyers, preaching, etc) and the student center, when not under construction, is a great place to be as well. Anyone considering coming to CSU, the student center will be done soon and you will be here for the new one.
Great for these types of students
Hard-working, committed to learning, passionate students. Also great for people who want to swing by easily, but most people here are very dedicated to what they're doing.
Clubs and Activities
This is my getaway when I want to be productive but want to stop doing schoolwork. I am an officer in the CSU Hawaii club (Hui O Hawaii) and I love helping out with club events because it gives me work but something different from my every day school work. They do make you very busy around exam times, but other than that it gives me something to look forward to other than just going to school and then going home.
Campus Safety
The entire town is actually very safe, even at night you can walk alone and not be entirely uneased. On campus, there are these blue lights that are police call boxes and wherever you are on campus (outside of a building of course) you will always see at least one of these lights. If you feel threatened, you just need to get yourself over to one of these and call the police. There are also many different programs that are geared towards student safety like Safewalk, which is where a police officer will come and walk with you to wherever you're going if you feel unsafe, and Ramride, which is a non-judgemental free ride home from wherever you are.

This school is amazing for the field I am in. The science classes here are without a doubt highly ranked, not to mention the pre-vet program is amazing followed by CSU's vet school (which is ranked #2 in the nation as of 2009).
Am enjoying being here
Everyone is athletic and quite friendly, not too many smokers as well, a very healthy environment. Big enough area for if you want to either be a party animal or a study bug, both fit here.
Bang for the buck
If you are in-state yes, but out of state can prove quite expensive.
Tips for prospective students
-Take school seriously now, studying is key here, as of any college
-Can be quite cold and windy at times so that should not fully bother you
-Other than that not too much, great school very helpful academic staff
Great for these types of students
-Very athletic and have big outdoor hobbies (such as camping, hiking, etc.)
-Any student interested in pursuing any field of science
-Any students interested in Veterinary medicine
