Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like to be a part of diverse community will find this place the best.
What to do for fun Engage! Get involve in On-campus groups and organizations. There are always one or more events going on and you can be a part of it. As the college is itself in the downtown, you can find many resources to have fun.
Food and Dining You can find food places across the campus including Subway, food trucks and cafe. The quality of food is good and it is affordable.
Dorm Life The Columbus Community State College does not provide dorm facilities to students but one can definitely find a place near to the college. It might be little expensive so it is a better idea to start your search earlier.
Academic Rigor Professors and Instructors are very helpful. The curriculum and syllabus is never stressful, main focus is to educated student in a low pressured way with high quality of knowledge.
Tips for prospective students Just take interest in on-campus resources and you will find yourself in the best place.
In three sentences A small but busy campus in downtown Columbus, giving every and all opportunities to students to engage on campus. Great professors and staff, providing every help needed to students. A college from where you can build your important connections.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been at least 5 times I have been approached by people asking me for money for obviously fake reasons. I've since learned to say "no", but I have lost around $10 to guys on two separate occasions that approached me while I was alone. It can be easy to feel a little unsafe on campus if you don't have any friends with you.
Great for these types of students Columbus State is great for students intending to transfer to OSU or other universities in the state of Ohio that don't want to have 4 school years worth of debt to pay off.
Bang for the buck Columbus state is the perfect budget option without sacrificing quality. Although there are many instances of professors that make you question how they keep their jobs, there are equally many professors that will help you in any way they can. I've had professors help my for hours after class hours, write recommendation letters for me, and generally be friendly or easily approachable.
Food and Dining There's not much that can be said about food and dining at Columbus State as it is only a community college. However, there is one small food-court-type area, but from what I have seen the prices can be a bit higher. I have also seen a taco truck and various food stands, but I hadn't tried them out either. I definitely would recommend the nearby Jimmy Johns as it's a short walk from campus however!
Dorm Life Not much can be said about dorm life at Columbus state because they are only a community college and don't provide on campus housing. However, I do believe they provide service for finding cheap student apartments off campus (though I have no personal experience with this service).
Academic Rigor Essentially, the difficulty level of Columbus State academics is whatever you make it out to be. Classes never seem to be difficult, and if they are, it's generally always because the professor is disorganized (my last composition 2 professor didn't grade a single paper and gave only participation points for showing up, only because she didn't get around to doing her work). If you want to be challenged, sign up for more than 16 credit hours during a semester. Lectures tend to be around 1.5 hours twice a week for 3 credit hour courses, and around 3 hours twice a week for 5 credit hour courses (additional time will be spent in class if these are science-with-lab classes).
Tips for prospective students * Definitely avoid online classes in math and sciences (and in my experience, speech classes too). This goes for the "blended" partially online, partially in-class courses. * Be prepared to be assertive and say no to people that approach you asking for money for whatever excuse they can conjure up. * There is more than one campus location, choose the one nearest to you for as many classes as you can! Though most intensive courses like math and some sciences won't be available anywhere but the main campus in downtown Columbus. * 16 credit hours is definitely a full work-load, anything more might start to get a bit stressful. Also, try to avoid taking more than 2 classes in a single day as Columbus state lectures tend to be very lengthy.
In three sentences Columbus state is definitely a highly cost effective choice. The academics can be as tough as you want them to be, as well as tending to be easier / more relaxed than similar courses offered at 4-year institutions. This is also an excellent choice for completing pre-requisite courses for select Ohio universities like OSU, as their transfer programs are excellently aligned.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has their own police department on campus. Overall, if there is a problem they are there to solve it. You also have the Columbus Police Department who is around as well for extra security.
Great for these types of students ANY first year students who are undecided on a major or just want to get their basic core classes out of the way.
Bang for the buck Tuition is cheap for a reason. It is affordable for anyone and is a good place to get an education. FASFA is also helpful with paying for your tuition as well as your books if you are qualified for it.
What to do for fun Columbus is full of things to do for all ages. Cosi, the Arena District, Casinos, etc.
Food and Dining CSCC allows food truck vendors to come on campus and serve the students as well as having a cafeteria on campus as well. There are also many places around campus you can visit to get food as well.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus. There are apartments and houses available around the campus that you could look into.
Academic Rigor There are many majors to chose from. They also give you the option to transfer schools if the major you want isn't there.
Tips for prospective students Like any college, do your research. Although this school does have some majors, it is also a good school to attend to first to get your basic classes out of the way. It's basically automatic acceptance and they have transfer options available too.
In three sentences Affordable, wonderful atmosphere, helpful instructors, easy acceptance!

Food and Dining They offer a variety of food establishment and if they do not have what you have a taste for there are restaurants with in driving distance.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Columbus State in my opinion do not offer courses that are difficult but they are challenging to get you prepared for your career.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour and you'll see all that Columbus State has too offer.
In three sentences Columbus State is very Convenient to get. It's centrally located in the city making it easily accessible. Columbus State is affordable for any one who want to attend. Columbus State offers a variety of courses at many locations.

Food and Dining They always have food stands on main campus, delicious food and friendly people.
Dorm Life There's no dorms offered through Columbus state.
Academic Rigor Several majors offered at Columbus state, my overall experience with the staff was good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is great! I never feel unsafe. With all of the crime happening on campus's now-a-days it wouldn't be unusual to feel uneasy after a night class, and police are always available for escort for that very purpose. Along with that, there's emergency buttons all throughout campus.
Great for these types of students Columbus State is great for students that need a step between high school and college, as well as students who just feel like getting their gen eds out of the way before moving on to a 4 year university. I think community colleges are becoming a lot more common and there's so much more diversity now. Columbus State is for everybody!
What to do for fun Columbus State is constantly having things going on throughout campus. You can go get a massage for $10, or volunteer to help out the community with fellow classmates. Everywhere you turn, there is something you can sign up for.
Food and Dining The cafeteria at Columbus State has amazing food. After hearing so much about the horrors of college food, I was really surprised to have such a wide selection of food that actually tastes good.
Dorm Life There are not any dorms at Columbus State
Academic Rigor I wouldn't say that Columbus State has the highest academic rigor. However, I think that it's enough to keep you studying and on your toes, and definitely a step up from high school
Tips for prospective students I would highly recommend doing a year at Columbus State before going to a 4-year university because you save a lot money by doing so. A lot of prospective students might think that they are missing out on a college experience that they would get at a 4 year university; however, Columbus State does an amazing job of making you feel like you're still away from home and you're not in high school anymore--the only difference is, you can still go home every day to home cooked meals and clean laundry-definitely worth the saved $10,000+, I must say. As far as academics go, be sure to stay ahead of the game. You don't want to get behind. That goes for registering too. Do not wait to register for classes. You'll be happiest if you are able to register your classes for the times you want.
In three sentences I think that Columbus State is a great stepping stone with professors that truly care about your future. Whether your plan is to pursue an associates degree or transfer to receive a bachelors degree, academic advisers and professors are always there to help. I am very glad I chose to do my first year here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus itself is not in the best area of the city. But, when you're on campus, you don't feel un-safe. It is very small, and all the buildings are located within 30 seconds to 2 minutes of each other. Like any campus, if you are there for a later class, be cautious, and be aware. But, like I said, you have to do that no matter what school you attend. There is always campus security around.
Greek Life Besides Phi Theta Kappa, an honor student fraternity, there is no greek life on campus.
Clubs and Activities Although I do not belong to any, there are still plenty of options to participate and find friends at CSCC. There organizations for political interest, community service, honors, career or degree specific, etc.
Great for these types of students Wants to save money and get their first two years/associates done before transferring, students who may not necessarily know what they want to do, non-traditional students, and people who don't have a ton of money to afford an education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not to my knowledge.
Bang for the buck Cheap classes, fairly good education. I pay out of state tuition, and I still am very content with the price I pay. Also, they offer plenty of Financial Aid options.
What to do for fun Because it is a commuter school, a lot of people live out in the suburbs, by OSU, etc. This causes a common problem of just staying within your daily schedule, or staying within your comfort zone. Columbus is the capital of Ohio. In the city itself, there is around a million people. Although it is no Chicago, Columbus is a beautiful city. Like I mentioned before, there are plenty of restaurants to dine at all around the city, and into the suburbs. Along with bars. But, if you are looking for a cheap/free option; there are still things to do, you just have to be willing to look a little. There are tons of neighborhoods through out the city to explore, such as Short North and German Village. Columbus has also made a huge effort to create plenty of parks hidden through out that are all beautiful. Some include, Columbus Commons, Schiller Park, The Rose Garden, Gooddale Park, etc. In the summer, the Columbus Commons hosts free events through out the week. There is also the Scioto Mile, located on Front St. It is a walkway that runs along the Scioto River, and is beautiful. If you have a little cash to spend, go to North Market, and enjoy one of 30 food vendors. It is a great, and welcoming environment with plenty of unique food choices. There is plenty more, you just have to be willing to take the time to really explore, and not stick within the CSCC bubble.
Food and Dining CSCC's campus food is actually pretty good. They have the main cafeteria, which gives you a fairly good variety at not terrible prices. Along with that, during the summer, there is always various food trucks every week for variety. During the school year, to my knowledge, there is the same one or two that are out on campus every day of the week. If you don't want either, Columbus is known for its endless selection of restaurants.
Academic Rigor Most classes are fairly average as far as academic rigor. But, you will have classes here or there that will be harder, but there is always tutoring services available if you are struggling with a certain class. Times for tutoring are announced once a week, or every few weeks.
Tips for prospective students If you're not overly excited to attend CSCC, like I was, just try and give it a chance. I came from a university in Michigan, and attend CSCC to finish up my general education courses. At first, I didn't overly love being there. But, as time went on, I slowly found friends, enjoyed my time in class, along with the individual attention you are given by most professors there. It may not be your original plan, or the university you wanted, but it is much better school than I, at first, gave it credit for.
In three sentences CSCC is a very good school for students interested in starting a community college, and then transferring. The professors are kind, personable, and knowledgable. The campus is decent, and you can find your niche here.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Right out of High School
Bang for the buck Tuition is cheap and classes are pretty good, all credits may not transfer be careful of what school you're looking to transfer to.
Food and Dining Never ate on campus
Dorm Life No dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor I felt that Columbus state classes were academically challenging and manageable .
Tips for prospective students Sit down with your adviser every semester if they will even talk to you. Distance learning offers many different locations closer to home.
In three sentences Good start right out of high school while still trying to figure out what major interests you the most while not paying too much per credit hour. Did not get any academic advising or help scheduling classes like many universities would. Small class sizes and professors are pretty much down the middle, really great or really bad.

Tips for prospective students Stay focused, and take the classes serious.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Sometimes you seem to take classes that have nothing to do with your major, so it seems that you are wasting your money and time.
What to do for fun Sitting out on campus on a nice day is always fun. Going into the open labs and study groups are fun too. You meet new people and make new friends.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students I would say that you should don't overload yourself with a lot of classes, it can get tough. Time management is really important.
In three sentences Columbus State community College is an awesome college for students coming right out of high school and for those who have not been in school for a long time. It is a very affordable college, which most community colleges are, but they are very affordable. They also have caring professors who take time out to make sure you know your materials and keep you on the right track.

Categories Comments Campus Safety CSCC has their own police force. It is rare to walk around campus for more than 2 minutes without seeing a security officer patrolling the area.
Greek Life I have not personally experienced this aspect of Columbus State.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs are offered at CSCC to meet people with similar intrests, network with individuals and groups of people that are integrated with your career and field of study, and to have fun with peers and escape some of the pressures of intense courses.
Great for these types of students Students who didn't do so well in High school and are looking to start college with a strong GPA, have been out of school for a while and are looking for a place to ease back into good study habits, or are short on money and need some education to advance in their career field are students that would fit well with the culture and style of Columbus State.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have never taken to time to meet with him myself, but I've heard around campus that the Dean likes to get to know the students and encourages them so set up lunch meetings with him simply to get to know them.
Bang for the buck Columbus State's low tuition rates make it almost impossible to say no to getting an education. It is also a great place to get prerequisit courses out of the way for cheaper before transfering to a different University.
What to do for fun Given that there are no requirement to stay on campus most students do not spend much time on campus for recreational reasons. Those students that do typically spend time playing video games and ping pong on the main floor of Nestor Hall.
Food and Dining The cafeteria offers a wide variety of food options. There are no food plans at Columbus State. There are also food carts on main campus in the courtyard which is nice when you are in the mood for a quick lunch.
Dorm Life There are no on-campus living options at CSCC.
Academic Rigor Community colleges have a bad reputation of being too easy. I have only taken accounting courses and a few other basic academic courses, therefore I cannot speak for CSCC's other programs, but the accounting courses I took were challenging and overall a huge commitment.
Tips for prospective students If students are not sure what career is right for them Columbus State is a college that will support them through any path they decide to take, even if it means transfering credits to a different University.
In three sentences CSCC is a great place to get a quality education for individuals on a tight budget. The dedicated professors are always willing to meet with students one on one outside of class for further clarification of concepts related to the course. Also, students that wish to continue their education outside of Columbus State have many options of Universities that will accept transfer credits from CSCC.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Can be scary, but there is a police department just for the campus. I just would recommend being alone at night!
Clubs and Activities Many clubs, basketball and volleyball. I wish there were sports!
Bang for the buck Good education for a small price!
What to do for fun There are volleyball and basketball games which are always fun! Also there are many different groups and organizations to join.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is good, but extremely overpriced with no meal plans.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor Many people believe community colleges have easy classes. This is not true! Classes can be very difficult and challenging!
Tips for prospective students Tips I would give would be to take English courses online, unless you are majoring in English. Also, I would say do not try to hurry along and just through school. If you need to take an introductory course, do it! Do not just go into the higher course so you can transfer and finish school earlier.
In three sentences Columbus State Community College is a extraordinary college to attend. It is small and is a nice transfer from college. There is a lot of diversity and not only do the students receive an education, but also learn to adapt to many different cultural environments.

Greek Life I am currently not available for this youth life.
Clubs and Activities I am currently a member of the following clubs OCPA (Ohio Crime Prevention Association IDLS ( International Deans List Society Village at Galloway Ridge Board President Shamrock Club ( Irish family club
Great for these types of students If you plan on going to school online, Blackboard and your teachers are great.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since I am not on campus that much I do not know of any spots yet.
Bang for the buck At the cafe you can usually get a special and that usually saves me a lot of money.
What to do for fun Currently I am taking flying lessons, spending summers with my grandkids, going to the drive in in the summer with my wife, and just spending quite time alone.
Food and Dining When I am at the main campus I have ate at the cafeteria. They had a larger, healthier selection than I expected. They offer a wide variety of items.
Dorm Life I current own my own home and live 20 miles from the campus. So my dorm life is with my wife and my beautiful dog.
Academic Rigor I have been inducted into the International Deans List Society. During my first semester I was asked to set in on a panel board for the colleges development of programs.
Tips for prospective students First tip is don't be scared. This is a big step. My second tip is to utilize all the resources that the college has for you to use. Even though I am going to class online I have been given a lot of help. If you are going mostly online, don't be afraid of the online format , Blackboard. No matter what age you are, where you are from, or what you can do, Columbus State is there for you and they will make sure you succeed.
In three sentences Even though Columbus State is rather big, they do have many classes available at all times of the day. Some of my professors have been there for me when I really needed help. As an older, more mature student, I have come to see that Columbus State is viable for all ages.

Great for these types of students All types, especially those who need a smaller class size or developmental education classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Before CSCC was built, the land it is on was once a graveyard. There is still a tombstone on campus by the Christopher Columbus statue. See if you can find it!
Bang for the buck Prices are great at CSCC and it is the prefect place to begin your bachelors.
What to do for fun There are places all around campus for fun, including the coffee shop above the bookstore and the video game room in Nestor hall. There are also many student activities during the school term, so get involved!
Food and Dining Food tends to be a little overpriced, but there is a nice selection. Most of the time you can buy food from the food trucks for a good prices.

Tips for prospective students Apply for all the scholarships that are offered by the school and attend as many campus events as you can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The downtown location of Columbus State presents real safety cahllenges, and incidents do occur. however, CSCC does have an excellent record of enforcing law and order and informing students of road closures and public safety issues on campus. Regular emails keep student life at fingers reach, and campus police have a visible presence. No issues here.
Greek Life None to speak of
Clubs and Activities They are plentiful on campus.
Great for these types of students Working adults, Self-paying students, Students with children, Budget conscious learners, continuing ed students, career minded education, Veterans, older students, People changing careers, recent High school graduates, Unconventional students, Students with disabilities, foreign students. Engineering students, Hospitality students, Culinary arts students, Nursing students, Personal training students, Management students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Excellent architecture, and a diverse student body. No particular traditions I am aware of that are quirky enough to note.
Bang for the buck An inexpensive first 2 years for the rest of your career! However, if you have questions, answers are often very hard to find.
What to do for fun CSCC has a gym, clubs, activities, interest groups, a fine downtown location, and a wealth of things to keep you occupied should you have time between studies!
Food and Dining food is offered at the cafe and other vendors on campus, all of which is quite good and easily affordable!
Dorm Life No experience in this arena for you.
Academic Rigor The courses in the engineering departments are those I know best. All very logically organized, and as intimidating and daunting as the material can be, I have found inspiration and renewed determination in the curriculums the departments have designed. If you apply yourself and use your time well, A's are easily attainable. It is not easier than a University to excel, it is however more likely. I have been stressed, broken down, exhausted and ultimately rebuilt by the faculty and programs here. Having attended OSU, I feel Columbus State is superior in some ways. Having many of the same instructors in a smaller class at a lower price, the quality is here at CSCC.
Tips for prospective students Attend the orientations, and don't be shy about asking questions. If the faculty were not so excellent and helpful, this experience would just be too much for many who attend here. The other students with whom you attend are a valuable resource for experience, necessary as Financial aid and student advising are completely and infuriatingly useless. Know your program, and the department heads and faculty who can help you. In my experience, they will! great people are found here, but they are the students and professors. Administration is bizarre and non functional in many instances, although well meaning I'm sure.
In three sentences The Academic and Financial Aid advising services are next to zero. The professors are almost entirely exemplary, and the price is excellent. A practical education in your field, and an education on how NEVER to handle customer service.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This school's a public school and it's downtown so that means anyone can walk around campus. We have campus police nearby for help but that doesn't cure everything. While I never came across anything myself, there have been incidences of rape and car theft.
Great for these types of students I think this school is great for people who are still unsure of the exact details of where they want to go in life. It's relatively close to home and inexpensive.
What to do for fun There's literally nothing to do on campus that's designed specifically for fun. Unless you count studying as fun.
Food and Dining They have an okay selection at the café. There's yogurts, salads, burgers, doughnuts, etc. Most of the tables are inside but there's a few outside as well. I'd say it's reasonably priced (but I'd still rather go to McDonald's.)
Dorm Life We currently don't have dorms here but I heard from a teacher that they're thinking about changing that.
Academic Rigor Honestly, I believe it all depends on which class you're taking and who's your instructor. Most of the classes for me where easy to get by, and I absorbed important information. But I think it's fairly important to keep reminders of what's due when or else you won't pass.
In three sentences I'd say this college is average. It's not too exciting but it's not too poor either. They offer free counseling and career services, which I think is cool.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is very safe because there are active campus and city police patrolling the campus area constantly. The Public Safety department also provides services such as escorts to one's vehicle and a campus-wide texting/e-mail service called Rave that alerts all students enrolled at Columbus State of crimes such as car break-ins and stolen items.
Greek Life There are not really any fraternities or sororities at Columbus State Community College, so I cannot comment on this.
Clubs and Activities There are a few clubs such as the Psychology Club and the Student Engagement and Leadership organization that focuses on community and student services. Also, of course, anyone is welcome to start up their own club if they so desire. This college doesn't have as many clubs and organizations as larger universities, but that definitely does not mean someone cannot get involved in student life, especially given the college's closeness with Ohio State University.
Great for these types of students Columbus State is great for those that want to go to college, but might not be able to afford time or money to a full university right away or at all. I see people from all ages, ranging from fresh out of high school to mid-20s, even 30s, 40s, and on up. This really diversifies the student base and makes it a more interesting place to be in general. I think because of this Columbus State is great for people returning to school after a long period of time, young people that have taken a break after high school that need to ease back into the academic world, or just plain 18-19 year old college freshmen. The students and staff make it an easy place to be if being in college is a struggle for you, so really, Columbus State serves most people I can think of.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I do not quite know about any sort of unusual traditions or locations, but Nestor Hall and the cafeteria can hold some quite interesting people if you look hard enough!
Bang for the buck I think Columbus State is a great value for the money you spend because you can not only take classes downtown or in one of many regional campuses, but there are other fun things to do in between studying. In my first semester, I only had one class downtown, and the rest I could take just a couple of miles from my house. Columbus State also plans to expand to another large campus near Delaware, OH, which, based on what I have heard from my friends, is turning out very nicely. The people are also, as I've said before, incredibly helpful, and there are several places where you can receive tutoring or writing help if you struggle in certain areas. The library is also a member of OhioLINK, which can order books for your research projects from all over the state, saving you loads of time trying to sort out sources online or driving out to libraries far and wide to pick them up, and also subscribes to WorldCat, which carries books from around the world.
What to do for fun There are a few things you can do for fun at Columbus State. I would say the most fun thing is to talk to new people and have interesting conversations that might be harder to come by in a different setting. Columbus State also has a gym if you want to work out. If you feel like relaxing, you can head over to Nestor Hall, which has a television that is almost always hooked up to some sort of gaming console. There are also quite a few people that play card games such as Magic: The Gathering. There's also a ping pong table, and tournaments are played regularly there. Sometimes plays are on in the theatre, and the campus hosts events around holidays also. Columbus State also has several sports teams if you want to get involved in athletics.
Food and Dining The food is superior and the personnel are incredibly friendly. Even if Columbus State isn't in a location with many places to eat, I am definitely satisfied with the food in the cafeteria at all hours of the day. They serve breakfast sandwiches and donuts at breakfast time, and make burgers, chicken fingers, chicken sandwiches, various wraps, salads and cold sandwiches, pizza, Bosco sticks, as well as Asian cuisine such as lo mein and fried rice the rest of the day. The lunch room is also a very nice place to meet new people or relax in between classes with friends.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at Columbus State Community College, so I cannot comment on this.
Academic Rigor I would not say this is the most rigorous academic environment, but you are still expected to care about the work you are given and get along with your instructors and classmates as an adult would. The assignments definitely demand time management skills and focus. By attending a community college, it is expected that you learn to adapt to heavier workloads, especially if you want to attend a more stringent 4-year university.
Tips for prospective students It may seem like it will be high school all over again, but there are far higher expectations. You are treated like an adult, and there is little room for negotiation as far as when assignments are due and when you need to attend class. Most of the things you got away with in high school will not work in any college. If you work hard and don't blow off any homework or important assignments, you will do fine and enjoy your time at Columbus State while still getting to where you need to be.
In three sentences The atmosphere is pleasant and the people, both students and staff alike, are helpful. I feel more confident going to a full 4-year university now that I have had a good college experience at Columbus State. I would recommend this college to anyone wanting to get a degree while also accommodating their busy life and academic needs.

Categories Comments Food and Dining CSCC has the classic hotdog stands, boodle stands, or a cafe that has coffee, pizza, and other quick, easy meals.
Dorm Life I haven't been in a dorm, but my friends said the cleanliness is okay, aside from the rowdiness that goes on.
Academic Rigor Teachers are serious about their class and provide much help. Classes are worth their credit hours.
In three sentences Columbus State is a great college because it provides a wide variety of affordable classes. Columbus state also allows transfer classes to OSU or other colleges. The community is great with many clubs and tutoring offered, as well as counseling.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck You could go to an expensive school for the same price because of the way they teach and cram courses you end up having to take courses over and over to pass. Plus there are no tutors, no help at all. You are on your own here.
What to do for fun Don't really know, with all the courses I have to take not much time left for fun.
Food and Dining ok but I usually eat before going
Dorm Life live at home
Academic Rigor Extreme
Tips for prospective students Make sure this is the place you want to go and that you are a do it yourself person, if you are wanting help then this is not the place to go.
In three sentences This is an ok school but they use a lot of outdated material and they cram 2 and 3 courses into one course, they don't raise the credits so you are stuck taking 4-5 courses per semester just to qualify. After 1st year most courses are nights and weekends only and there's really no help. I'm in the software developer field and they do not have ANY tutors for this area. The class is so crammed with information that the professors don't have time to help you and the lab time is non existent, they lecture through it. I have disabilities and the school may care but most of the professors do not; they have even told me so.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Financial, Its unbeatable. Academically, its exceptional.
What to do for fun There are dozens of student clubs. I often see groups of students playing hacky sack, kicking around a soccer ball or skateboarding.
Food and Dining A large variety of fresh food and drinks in the cafeteria as well at several hotdog and gyro stand around campus. I love the Chinese food!
Dorm Life CSCC doesn't have student housing.
Academic Rigor Some classes seem tough such as my accounting and math classes but if classes we're easy you wouldn't be learning much.
Tips for prospective students Take your general education courses first. Especially if you plan to transfer to another institution. Speak with advisers to make sure your not wasting time and money on unnecessary classes. The Writing Center at Columbus State Community College is top notch.
In three sentences Its very affordable. Great programs with many transfer opportunities in Ohio. The amount of one on one help you can get from the professors was surprising.

Be responsible , if you miss a class or something, make sure you are prepared to catch up.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. Cops everywhere. Love the RAVE system that keeps then in touch with you if ever you are on campus late and you want them to be aware of your walk to the car. They are also quick to send out notifications in the event of an emergency like your car getting stolen. They are super helpful.
Greek Life honors society available
Clubs and Activities Lots to choose from.
Great for these types of students Great for students that need to be watched or paid attention to in order to get work done. In a smaller class, you stick out out if you don't know what is going on.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The massive, colossal, gigantic statue of Christopher Columbus smack in the middle of campus. Can't miss it.
Bang for the buck Free printing. Small classes makes for one-on-one attention. Cheaper fees than most big colleges. Easy transferability to big colleges especially Ohio State!
What to do for fun Lots of societies and organizations to join. A free gym too.
Food and Dining There are vegetarian options at the cafeteria including sushi and a black bean burger :)
Dorm Life none
Academic Rigor I've learnt so much at CSCC that all my misconceptions about community colleges were shot down within weeks of my first semester. They are professional and supply a first-rate education.
Tips for prospective students Keep up with assignments, deadlines and blackboard :)
In three sentences Columbus State makes you feel like you're not just a number in a massive lecture hall where the instructor doesn't even know who you are. This type of close interaction makes you want to work harder and be a better student because you aren't faceless and nameless. Instructors are also very personable and approachable and timely with their responses.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those that don't know what they want to do, but haven't started school yet. Or for those who want to change careers and it's one of the ones CSCC has. Working during the day and courses at night work out pretty well.
Bang for the buck Best deal in the Central Ohio area. You don't pay much per credit hour, nor do you pay for unneeded classes.
What to do for fun I have not participated in too many activities at cscc because I work full time, as well. But I have gone to some of the fairs and displays set up by the art department for the city.
Food and Dining They have some pretty typical cafeteria style offerings and some deli fare.
Dorm Life There are not dorms at cscc. I wish there was that option when I was starting college.
Academic Rigor The degrees are really tailored to the specific concentration, so you aren't spending tons of time on classes that are not related and too difficult.
Tips for prospective students Really look at the descriptions of the degrees and speak with the advisors so you don't change your major when you see all the other offerings they have.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the extremely unique, large statue of Christopher Columbus in the middle of campus - a regular meeting point.
Bang for the buck For the price, CSCC is great as long as you get what you pay for. Canceling classes is a big deal to me and CSCC is the worst I've ever seen for this.
What to do for fun There are many activities on campus. There are game nights, special events for all groups, and many live speakers that make their way to the CSCC campus.
Food and Dining As with most colleges, the food is lacking. You are better off packing your lunch, versus eating here!
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor The quality of education you receive is comparable to that of Franklin U and OSU, as many of the faculty also teach at those colleges. Many classes transfer easily to other colleges.
Tips for prospective students If you go to CSCC, go with a specific purpose - do not try to get a degree. CSCC is best for people taking classes to transfer back to your college of choice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never experienced any problems regarding my own safety. I do know that we are located on the East side of Columbus and just a few streets over the area isn't very friendly. However, our campus police force is great. I always see them driving around, riding bicycles, and monitoring the campus. One time I even saw them jump a young girl's car when her car battery died.
Greek Life I recently was accepted to Phi Theta Kappa which is an honor society that raises money for scholarships. It's a great community, with friendly members.
Clubs and Activities CSCC offers quite a few clubs, like the Ambassador Leadership Program, chess club, a weightlifting club, Pre-Law Association, and many more. It all depends on how passionate the students are about getting involved, but if they want it, the chances are that CSCC will have it or provide it.
Great for these types of students CSCC is great for all students who are dedicated to gaining a great education, but perhaps are ill-equipped in the finance department. CSCC provides a great education at a great cost.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The third floor, in the back right corner of the library is the best place to study. I have finished so many projects tucked away in that nook.
Bang for the buck You can't go wrong starting off at CSCC, especially if you're thinking about going to Ohio State University. You will save a lot of money by taking classes at CSCC and then transferring them to OSU. Plus, you can pick up an associate's degree in the meantime.
What to do for fun Nestor Hall is a great place to hang out and meet new people in between classes. It's like a small community of students hanging out and playing games. There's foosball, ping-pong, video games, and other things to do as well. Personally, I like to spend a little time in the fitness center whenever I get the chance.
Food and Dining I was about to give CSCC four stars for their dining, but then I remembered how expensive it is. They offer a great range of food and beverage items, but they charge $6 for a five pieces of sushi and they charge $1.75 for a cup of coffee. Students need their coffee!
Academic Rigor Although most of CSCC's classes can transfer into Ohio State, it isn't a four year college. There is only so much academic rigor that can be fulfilled at a two-year college. However, of the classes they do offer it is top-notch material.
Tips for prospective students Always remember to stay ahead of schedule. It's easy to fall behind, because almost all of CSCC's curriculum is comparable to Ohio State's curriculum. One of my professors told us that one of the most important things students can do is: get up, dress up, and show up. I couldn't agree more.
In three sentences Overall, Columbus State Community College is a great place to start your education. Our professors care about teaching their students and most of the students are dedicated to learning. It's always a good sign to see that our library is jam-packed full of students quietly studying away,

Another thing no matter what you going through make sure your education comes first and everything last. Think twice about the choices you make in life because at the end of the day its based off your decision , nobody else's. So if you want to succeed in life , keep your head in the books , then stay away from distractions . Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is located on Cleveland Avenue which isn't one of the safest streets in Columbus. However, the campus is located on a safer stretch of the long street. In addition, there are escorts available through public safety and occasional patrol by the Columbus police department.
Greek Life There is not much of a Greek life currently at Columbus State but it would no doubt be welcomed by many students here.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities to get involved in at Columbus State. Sports such as volleyball and basketball are popular as well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking to learn the ins and outs of college life (minus living in dorms that is) in a smaller setting, new high school graduates looking to find some independence and those on a budget.
Bang for the buck Part of the reason I chose to go to Columbus State before attending a university was the cost. It is a great way to get your prerequisite courses out of the way before attending a four year institution.
Food and Dining I ate in the cafeteria almost every day I was at school while I was a student at Columbus State and while some of the food was okay, for the most part I was not at all impressed.
Academic Rigor Being a community college, Columbus State is tough without being too tough. Once you move on to whatever four year program you plan to attend, you will understand what I mean.
Tips for prospective students Columbus State is a good place to start if you are one of the following: a graduating high school senior or adult student looking for a good way to ease yourself into the college experience, a graduating high school senior who chose *not* to take the SATs or ACTs, a person looking to attend college who cannot afford to start out at a more expensive school such as Ohio State, Capital, Otterbein, etc. Columbus State's campus is very small so it is a good way to get used to college without having to run all over creation to get to class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Visible security, safety stations, etc. Know your street sense, and make friends...
Greek Life None really.
Clubs and Activities Wide variety.
Great for these types of students Self-motivated. Hard-working. Commuter. Who want basic, workforce, or prerequisite credit for an affordable price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I enjoyed studying around the outdoor light sails iron/glass sculpture near the campus square. The campus also has various gardened areas, that add character to the outdoor atmosphere.
Bang for the buck I attended as a fully-funded PSEO student, so I did not have to pay out of pocket. Nonetheless, he school is regarded well for its low cost and fixed tuition prices--on average, under 10 thousand a semester. Columbus State is the affordable place to be, but with stellar professors who know their stuff!
What to do for fun Modern Fitness Facility: elliptical, treadmills, weight training, locker rooms, and other general options. Organized gym sports, as well as, free fitness classes. Unorganized sports...haggy sack, soccer, etc.
Food and Dining The cafe and food carts are well-priced, but only with limited selection and variety. The food is okay. Sack lunches are always an option!
Dorm Life None, it is a commuter campus.
Academic Rigor In general terms, most who attend have low to medium rigor. But if you are motivated, steadfast, and willing to work you will thrive in the challenging course work and environment.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want to do! Do not just go to school, to be going; have a plan. If you plan to transfer your credit to another school, check your chosen classes before you enroll (to ensure they count!).
In three sentences The knowledgeable, caring, dedicated professors are committed to your success--in class and beyond. I felt like a part of the team in the classes one-on-one atmosphere; the added instructor guidance was eye-opening, as well as, encouraging. Being a highly rated school, in both academics and affordability, Columbus State should be on your 'top ten' list!

Greek Life There are a few organizations available, for honors students.
Clubs and Activities I do not participate in any activities, so I am unsure what ones are available.
Great for these types of students CSCC is a great place for students with families, as you can get most of your degree online, or at an off campus location close to home. There are classes offered both at night and early morning, and weekend.
Bang for the buck The education is amazing and the price cannot be beat. There are many class options in both online, and off campus locations.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities on campus, and a few social activities as well. I do not participate in any of them.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is acceptable. The food is fresh, and the prices are reasonable. There are a decent amount of choices. I packed my lunch most of the time to save money, however.
Dorm Life This school does not have housing.
Academic Rigor The classes can be challenging, but the workload isn't the most stimulating. It is a community college after all, and most students work outside of school, which many professors take into consideration.
Tips for prospective students Keep in touch with professors and classmates! Register for classes early and check for new opportunities all around campus.
In three sentences Columbus State Community College is the best community college to start your college career. It has the cheapest tuition rate for students, but you are receiving A+ education from professors who care. Class sizes are small, and the education is personal.

Great for these types of students It's great for students who didn't do so well in high school or for adults who want to pursue a low cost degree or secondary degree.
What to do for fun Ohio State sports, Columbus Crew, and Columbus Blue Jackets sporting events in the city. On campus, the school has many events at the bookstore and around campus that they notify via email.
Food and Dining There is only a coffee shop and a snack store on campus, but there are many other places nearby to eat.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor I have found that some of the classes are very challenging, but others that are so easy, that I earn high grades without even studying.
Tips for prospective students If you take online classes, be prepared to do more work than in-class. I have taken many and found that online classes are far more demanding than going to campus.
In three sentences Columbus State is a good place to start for those who didn't do well in High School. The downside of the school are that the instructors aren't prompt in responding to questions or they are easily distracted. The upside is that the credits will transfer.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who have just gotten out of high school and just aren't ready for that big college atmosphere yet. Those who have not really decided in what career direction they would like to pursue and just want to get a jump start. Those who have already received a degree and would like to obtain another one of their interest. Single parents who were not able to obtain a degree earlier in life but have the drive to go back to provide a better life for themselves and their families career wise.
Food and Dining They do not have huge cafeteria area but what they do have is affordable and good for you. They have several different vending machines to grab snacks as well as food carts along campus to grab a quick bite in between classes
Dorm Life there are no actual dorms on campus but it centrally located to downtown so living virtually anywhere you can attend classes. They also have different campuses throughout the Columbus area that you can attend to better suit your needs. They also offer online courses if you are not the type of person who is able to make it to class or able to sit in a classroom
Academic Rigor Things can get tough at times but if you have the will to press on and drive through it, it will lead you to success.
Tips for prospective students Keep your head up, this school is great with helping you choose a career path that best suits you and your needs. There are flexible hours and a variety of class options and degree programs to choose from. Categories Comments Campus Safety Public safety is great with their RAVE system. You sign up on your cell phone and if something happens, they text you. You can text them, too, if you witness something going on or have a problem. Plain clothes officers are everywhere, so mind your p's and q's while at Columbus State.
Greek Life Phi Theta Kappa - the nation's largest society for two year colleges. I belong to it!
Clubs and Activities Gospel Vocal Ensemble (Woot Woot!), Campus Crusade for Christ, Science Club and many many more!
Great for these types of students Nerds, goths, gamers, music snobs, health fanatics, ethnically diverse, LGBT
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Spring Fling and Welcome Back are two events that you won't want to miss. Spring Fling is held every spring quarter and Welcome Back is held every Autumn Quarter. Businesses, clubs and organizations line the courtyard with tables and vendors come to sell their wares. Make sure you save some of your money for those weeks, so you can buy a tie dyed t-shirt or blown glass earrings from 'Dan the Hippie'. There are also a lot of health and wellness fairs as well as career and transfer fairs where, just like at Welcome Back and Spring Fling, you can get a lot of free stuff. In the courtyard, Christopher Columbus points the way to a great career. Climb up by him to pose for a candid shot, or just hang out on the steps with your friends. Sidewalk chalk messages will explain details of events and happenings around campus throughout the year. Nestor Hall is where everybody goes when they just want to make some new friends or hang out. It is loud and rowdy, and a great place to waste time, whether you're playing ping pong with African students or nerding around writing an RPG with a table full of geeks. Be sure to stop by and meet the coffee lady. She makes jewelry, too!
Bang for the buck Columbus State is the most affordable college in Ohio. Despite the low prices, though, the professors are among the best.
What to do for fun Columbus State's music and theater department are top notch, even though they don't get much attention. They always have performances and most of them are free to attend. Additionally, there are always open mics in the library, hosted by the literary department. However, the campus is located in the middle of downtown Columbus, so students are surrounded with a lot of things to do, both during the day and in the evening.
Food and Dining From the cafeteria to the bookstore cafe to the street vendors to the 'rowdy side' of Nestor Hall, there are a lot of options for meals at Columbus State.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at Columbus State. My 'dorm life' is great because I live at home with my husband! The campus is only 10 minutes away and is an easy commute.
Academic Rigor I have had some great professors and even better fellow students at Columbus State. Help is always available, either from the professors or from your fellow students.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you find out where all the quiet study areas are. They may not be where you expect them to be!
In three sentences Columbus State is full of friendly and diverse students who make great friends and study partners. The campus is pleasant, safe and peaceful. So far, I have really enjoyed attending Columbus State.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are 41 different student led organizations individuals can take part in running from honor society and academic groups to clubs based upon similar interests or personal identifications. As the student population is transitory being a two-year college, some groups are more active than others at any given time. It is best to contact the advisers to see who the current officers are and when meetings are held. There are also the annual Welcome Back and Spring Fling celebrations, as well as the quarterly plays which are free and open to the public.
Food and Dining AVI Cattering runs the cafeteria with a variety of options for hot food and coolers for sandwiches, salads, wraps, and sushi. The hours can seem sporadic and there are many times during operating hours that most stations are not open, limiting hot food choices to pizza or burgers. The cases also are not always stocked with a full selection. Skyward Grill has food carts spaced about the campus for Gyros, hot sandwiches, salads, and even pasts bowls. These carts are a huge hit with the students, just make sure you see them early as they pack-up around 4pm.
Dorm Life As a commuter campus, Columbus State does not have a Dorm Life.
Academic Rigor As an honors student some of my classes have been easier for me than others, particularly the general education courses required of all students. Though as many students are required to take remedial coursework, most of the student body find all classes to be a healthy challenge.
Tips for prospective students The three pieces of advice I would give any perspective new student is to first be mindful of financial aid deadlines. Every term there are a host of students who face delays and dropped classes because they miss a date. Second, see an advisor as quickly as you can. Particularly now that we are transitioning from a quarter to semester based system, you need to know how you will be affected if you plan to start before the start of fall term. Third, get involved on campus as much as you can. While Columbus State is a commuter campus and most of the student body have outside responsibilities, such as work and family, being involved helps you to stay connected to the college, network, and build relationships that will last a lifetime.
In three sentences Columbus State is an urban based, highly diverse learning atmosphere. It is a college which is student centered and caters to non-traditional and first generation college students.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students it is a good place to get your degree. but dont plan on coming here to get the full college experience (aka dorming and friends) its half young students, and about half older, parent type who are coming back to college. i havent made many friends because people just show up for class then leave right after. no socialization

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There are many careers at Cscc. Anyone who is serious about their career should go to Columbus State Community College. You wont regret it.
Tips for prospective students On your first day, bring a campus map. The campus may be small, but in order to know what building you need to go to it would be best to know where the building is. Take time to find your class rooms so you know where you will be going. You don't want to be late to class because you cant find the class room. Know where the parking lots are for the college. They range out over the area so if you cant find a parking spot in one area, you will know where to look next.
Bang for the buck Cscc's programs are affordable. Also there are many scholarships that you can apply to through the school to help with your financial needs.
Am enjoying being here The campus is comfortable to be in and the people are friendly. Cscc is not a big campus so I know where I'm going and I wont get lost.
Am learning a lot The classes I am currently taking require you to remember alot of information. Im in the Veterinary Technician program and we learn how to handle animals and take care of them to the best of our ability. Even if your not going into the Vet Tech field, it is alot of work in any field and you have to pay attention in your classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students CSCC is great for students that are unsure of what they want to major in, because they have a lot of classes to choose from and most of them transfer to other schools.
Tips for prospective students Definitely check out the teacher reviews and sign up as early as possible for unique classes because they fill up fast!
Bang for the buck I'm taking a lot of classes and it is not as expensive as I was expecting, and with the right teacher its worth the money.
Am enjoying being here Columbus is a wonderful city, and the people on campus are friendly and fun!
Am learning a lot I have only attended one quarter so far, but in this one quarter I haven't felt like I've learned a whole lot. I felt like two out of three of my teachers didn't really care if we were learning anything or not. I had e-mailed both of these professors and neither replied to any of them yet would tell me in class that they did receive my e-mails. I just wish they would have answered my questions better. Although these are only two of the probably hundreds of teachers here, I sure there are good teachers at this school, I just haven't meet them yet!

Tips for prospective students If you go to this school be sure to keep up with your all your material's ,class information and be ready to be active in the process of your successes.
Bang for the buck alot of the time students are not given the right advice from the adviser's so you take the wrong classes.
Am enjoying being here I have not had a positive experience here . the school is very unorganized and it is hard to get the information you need in a timely manner.
