    What to do for fun

Other students tell me that there are fun things to do on campus and in the surrounding area, but I have rarely participated. I live some distance away, commute for classes, and spend any extra on-campus time hanging out in the lounge or library.

    Food and Dining

I ususally bring my own lunch to school and heat it up in the microwave, because I live off-campus, so there is no need for me to pay cafeteria prices. On the few occasions when I have eaten cafeteria food, it has been pretty good, especially this year.

    Dorm Life

I commute, so I do not know what the dorm life is like.

    Academic Rigor

I came to Davis already knowing a lot about the Bible and ministry, but I found that they still had a great deal to teach me. I have learned and grown so much in the time I have been here, and I am so much more ready to take on the tasks that God gives me!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to speak up in class, as long as it is on topic. The professors actually like it, even if you disagree with them. Just make sure you are respectful of their position as teachers, and their (and other students') beliefs and opinions.

Davis College is a small school with a friendly atmosphere. The focus is on pursuing God in academics and everything else. My favorite thing about this school is the way the faculty really take the time to show us that they care about us personally and academically.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want to serve the Lord in their profession, and who really want to pursue God (as per the college's tagline) in their lives. Great for students who want to be known personally by professors and staff, and not just get lost in the hustle.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a river that runs right behind the campus, so it can be peaceful sometimes to go and sit by the river. It's a great spot for devotions.

    Bang for the buck

As far as private institutions go, it is a really affordable school. And the all-around experience is really worth it, in my opinion. The professors and staff really want to see you succeed, and work with you in order to make that happen. They want to see you grow in your education, personal life, and spiritual life.

    What to do for fun

There's not a ton to do on campus for fun, although the Broadway Cafe is a fantastic place to hang out, do homework, play games, etc...They've also been hosting monthly open mic nights, which are a lot of fun. The college also has sports teams (basketball, soccer, and volleyball), and students can attend these events for free. There's also intramural soccer and volleyball, for those so-inclined. There are options off-campus, such as restaurants, bubble tea, the cinema. There's a couple of really great parks in the area. Some people like to go bowling, and there's a rollerskating rink nearby. My friends and I have started going to the Southern Tier Swing Dancing Association to swing dance every week, which is a lot of fun. The Binghamton University campus also tends to have a lot going on, like concerts and such, so sometimes we'll hop over there to do something.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the food could be better most days. But it is improving every semester, and they do have some meals that are stellar!

    Dorm Life

I love dorm life! I spent two years in the dorms, and it's really a great experience. If you're willing to get along with people, it's great to have a bunch of girls right outside your door, ready to have a study party, watch a movie, or whatever! Quiet hour is also enforced at 10:30pm, so if you need sleep or study, there is time for that. Curfew is 11:30pm on weekdays and 1am on weekends. Dorms are gender exclusive, which is expected at a Christian college. I've come to appreciate the respite from the opposite sex.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not always incredibly rigorous, though some certainly are, but I can certainly say that I have almost always felt like I have learned and retained many valuable things in my classes. Especially in my core and Bible classes.

    Tips for prospective students

It is definitely a small school, so don't expect the things you would at a larger institution. But definitely expect professors and classmates who care about you, who want you to succeed, and are willing to come beside you as brothers and sisters in Christ.
