Founded by missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne University is a 4-year Catholic institution in Pittsburgh and the only Spiritan university in the country. Duquesne is home to nine schools of study emphasizing the liberal arts and is considered a research university with “high research activity” by the Carnegie Foundation. To demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, Duquesne University houses a natural gas turbine, an ice cooling system, and was the first institution of higher learning in Pennsylvania to receive the EPA’s Energy Star Combined Heat and Power Award.
