Categories Comments What to do for fun If you don't mind being in a car for an hour, the Ringling museum is very nice. Although the area isn't very "walkable", there are some fun things to do around town if you own a car- there isn't really any public transportation. Downtown Fort Myers has some neat festivals every once and a while and both Fort Myers and Punta Gorda have great downtown restaurants. Beware-there aren't very many coffee shops to sit down at besides a Starbucks in downtown Fort Myers, but a large amount of homeless people and criminals go there.
Great for these types of students Great for students who prefer a small college and don't mind Florida weather.
In three sentences I've lived in this town my whole life, and honestly one of the best parts about the town is FSW-formerly Edison. The campus is small and calming and I've never heard anything bad about any of the classes. It's a cute, small college that seems to be expanding little by little.
Campus Safety Charlotte campus is very safe- there is rarely any criminal activity in Punta Gorda. Fort Myers, however, can be very unsafe. Many shootings have taken place in Fort Myers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there's an app that ensures safety, there is also security guards constantly patrolling the campus, as well as fort myers police, and a security building on campus
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities longboarding chi alpha yoga zumba reading sga
Great for these types of students any type of student can attend i have seen kids in the back who wear furry tails and ears and play sims and world of warcraft, i've seen the instagram model wannabe, i've seen christians, athletes, non athletes, young parents, older parents, older members of the community, professors take classes, middle aged people. it is such a great school for every kind of person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the chi alpha club meets wednesdays and thursdays for bible study, zumba is every thursday, yoga is every tuesday, the garden is a really popular place for people to get quiet time, dunkin donuts is a good meeting place for friends, mentors, or meetings of any sort, people exercise a lot on the stairs of the barbara b mann since its 10 flights
Bang for the buck everything was expensive to me but that is also coming from a lower middle class citizen who thinks 15$ for pants is expensive
What to do for fun zumba, yoga, clubs, events, movies on campus, there's a garden, the barbara b mann constantly has shows going on, exhibits, the art gallery, on campus concerts.
Food and Dining i was really surprised at all the food there was to offer. there is a pizza hut stand in the cafeteria, and a subway and a dunkin donuts on campus. not to mention the cafeteria food is concessions style, and they give you so many options, from pizza to salads, to taco bowls, to subs, to chicken fingers. best cafeteria i have ever been in.
Dorm Life i loved living in the dorms. if i could afford it this year, i would do it again. they have so many events, the ra's are caring, and you make so many friends so fast with the atmosphere given.
Academic Rigor it really depends what classes you take, at what times you take classes, and what professors you take. every course has a different level of difficultly and each professor is different to get along with
Tips for prospective students attend your classes, just do it, it makes everything so much easier, and your grade in almost every class will depend on it. get involved! i cannot emphasize this enough, i knew nobody and getting involved in a club gave me so many friends and such a leg up on the community. do not schedule 7 or 8 or even 9 a.m. classes, you will regret it because half the time, you'll choose to sleep in over attending be nice to everyone on campus, it makes the experience so much better. attend the seemingly "lame" events that the campus, and even the dorms have to offer, you'll actually have fun.
In three sentences between staying in the dorms for a year, getting involved on campus, and attending classes, this school is simply the best. not only do you get a great education for way cheaper than most schools, but i have found that there is so much more to do on campus than any other school in the area. i would recommend attending this school to anyone!

The professors held such a deep passion for educating, they truly cared wether or not each student wanted to learn. Categories Comments Campus Safety The Fort Myers campus has more students attending and is in the heart of town so you do get some people that make you uncomfortable but only few and far between. The Punta Gorda campus is out in the countryside with less students attending, though the atmosphere is comforting and safe.
Bang for the buck You definitely get more classes done for a more affordable cost. Also, when paying for lab fees either on-campus or online the fee is worth it. There are many tools that are helpful throughout the course that aren't an extra astronomical cost.
Food and Dining I never experienced eating in the cafeteria but the vending machines sufficed.
Dorm Life I never experienced living in the dorms myself but have heard nothing but positive reviews.
Academic Rigor The classes I personally experienced at Florida Southwestern were not particularly too challenging for myself. I did find that there were a few classes that were harder and had a quicker pace or teaching style but it provided a healthy challenge.
Tips for prospective students Always apply for classes as quickly as possible so as to get the class you want. Find a great counselor that you feel comfortable with and that will be honest and communicative with you throughout your educational journey. Make a connection with as many teachers as possible, it allows you to become better acquainted with how they teach and it will make you feel more comfortable to ask questions when needed.
In three sentences Florida Southwestern State College is one of the better community colleges in the area. They are 100% affordable and they have wonderful teaching and medical degree programs. The focus with teachers at Florida SouthWestern State College has been better than it has been worse in my experience there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We're always alerted when something seems amiss. There are safety buttons all over campus you can press if you feel threatened. Security guards are always patrolling campus to make sure it's safe.
Greek Life Only one Greek here: Phi Theta Kappa. If your a high achieving student join because when you transfer there are scholarship opportunities for being a member!
Clubs and Activities The clubs are pretty good here, but because it's only a community college there aren't that many. The ones they have are good. There are volunteering clubs, a scuba club, Christian clubs, and pretty much something for everyone.
Great for these types of students If your a nursing, education or law major this is the place for all your schooling. If you want to major in mathematics, a science or arts then get your general degree and transfer, the school is a great value for your education!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Barbara B. Mann performing arts hall is located on campus providing awesome shows (students get discounts). They aren't just student productions either, national tours perform here like Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera. Right next to BB Mann is the Bob Rauschenberg art gallery featuring famous works of art along with receptions. We even had Yoko Ono (John Lennon's widow) with us once!
Bang for the buck You definitely get a good education at a great price! So worth it to go here then transfer, saves you tons of money!
What to do for fun You should join clubs and get to know people! I was in martial arts and gamer's club, I had a blast!
Food and Dining The food here is excellent but expensive! Stick to subway and be on the lookout for end of the week free food opportunities.
Dorm Life I have no idea what dorm life is really like here as I didn't stay in the dorms but I hear from others it's pretty good and convenient. There's a basketball court right outside the dorms.
Academic Rigor It depends on the class you take, but I didn't find the classes to be too difficult. Just study hard, focus on learning and pray while you take the exam! :D
Tips for prospective students Always ask around about professors, you can get an awesome teacher or a really inadequate teacher for the same subject. The great teachers really are great, they really want you to learn succeed and do well. The not-so-good teachers, well, you should just avoid them completely. Also, get involved with clubs and organizations, it's really fun, you make good friends and it looks great when you transfer to another school! Phi Theta Kappa is an honors society on campus that gives scholarship opportunities to transferring students!
In three sentences Edison (now FSW) is a really awesome school! I was an early admissions student from the high school on campus and I loved it! It's a great place for a nursing, education, or law degree, but if you want to pursue something else, I recommend coming here for your general degree (AA) then transferring (much cheaper doing that, too!).

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are around 30-50 clubs on campus. most importantly you could make your own club and don't have to worry about the money to start it. There are a few sports clubs to join. There is a mall about 10 minutes away, a beach 10-15 minutes away. Also a movie theater 5-10 minutes away.
Food and Dining The dining place is small, but there is a variety of choices of food each day. There is a Subway and A Pizza Hut in the Cafe. They added a Dunkin Donuts next to the library.
Dorm Life The dorms are very comfy. You get to meet other people from different parts of Florida and sometimes from other states or countries.
Academic Rigor There is no excuse why one could fail a class. Unless you skip an important class and cannot make the work from the previous class.
Tips for prospective students Do not hesitate to ask for help. There are places on campus where you could get tutored for free or study at ease. Take advantage of the resources given.
In three sentences The campus is small, but you could get around it without getting lost or late to class. It is a great environment. The faulty are very helpful and are willing to help in whatever you need help with.

Dorm Life The dorms at this college are like tiny apartments. They're beautiful compared to some of the others I have seen and are even nicer than some apartments around the same price range.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest campuses I've seen. 24 hour security.
Greek Life No greek life
Clubs and Activities There are a bunch of clubs, from student government to scuba club.
Bang for the buck If you apply for in state tuition then it is cheap compared to other colleges.
What to do for fun Ft.Myers is known for their beaches. Also, there are a bunch of parks and whatnot in the area. There are a lot of clubs to get involved with.
Food and Dining The food is okay. We have a pizza hut and the pizza is not so good, but we do have a subway and diner so they sort of make up for it.
Dorm Life I'm currently staying in the dorms, and they are great. They are under 24hr security, so its very safe. The dorms are fairly new, clean, and have a lot of space. The dorms are an apartment style like dorm, so we have a kitchen equipped with a large fridge, microwave, and 2 burners.
Academic Rigor I gave this three stars because the core classes (for biology/nursing majors) are difficult. Electives and other core classes like English and whatnot were easy.
Tips for prospective students Get your financial aid in as soon as possible. Look up the classes you plan on attending.
In three sentences Student oriented, challenging, and fun.

What to do for fun Nearby malls and resaurants.
Food and Dining Edison offers a variety of great foods.
Dorm Life I do not live on campus.
Academic Rigor Overall good academic rigor.
Tips for prospective students My tips are to know where you are going, get a map of the campus, and ask for directions if you are lost. Another tip is if you are taking online classes, always ask the teacher questions is you have any.
In three sentences Edison State College provides many different ways to complete classes, whether it is online or in person. Edison has great teachers who are very helpful. The campus is a little confusing but once you figure it out, you will know exactly where everything is located.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Amazing high level of security. There is heavy surveillance during the evening to night times as though something has occurred in the past, but currently nothing has gone wrong. Students are well-mannered and our public security department contains diligent professionals.
Greek Life This is another aspect of life at Edison of which I am unfamiliar. From what I have seen and heard, this is not as prominent here as in large-scale universities.
Clubs and Activities As I have described, our clubs are constantly evolving and expanding due to the open opportunity for students to start their own clubs whenever they please.
Great for these types of students Self-taught and/or school taught artists, Nursing majors, expressive introverts, LGBTQ+, first/second/third/etc.-generation immigrants, and any undecided majors with a strong will to decide on their major.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Wacky Wednesdays tend to offer free food as well as playful social integration exercises on campus. There is a garden area beside the Rauschenberg gallery that has a pond with koi fish and lotus flowers that are in full bloom very often.
Bang for the buck Again, there is no perfection here but for the inquisitive and open-minded young scholar this campus is a secure foundation to build one's academic experience upon.
What to do for fun There are thankfully many clubs on campus. If and when there are students who wish for a club that is not presently offered, there have the open opportunity to begin their own. A recent example of this is a Hip-Hop dance, art, and music club that has only just become official this Spring 2014 semester. In this club, some students often breakdance, rap, beatbox, and sometimes observe and encourage each other towards further artistic expression. Besides these many clubs on campus, we have an Art Gallery (Bob Rauschenburg Gallery) that has open exhibits for most of the year. There is also the Barbara B Mann performance hall which shows a variety of plays, live music shows, and some other quality performances. From time to time, students are invited to free meal or snack events on campus to either celebrate certain organisations, raise awareness, or celebrate a particular event.
Food and Dining This is the only lacking feature of our school. The food is quite varied, fortunately, but it does not provide options for particular diets such as vegan, vegetarian, and/or gluten-free. Any individual who is either of these three much carefully inquire of what may be removed from the initial meal offered, which for some proves tedious for many.
Dorm Life I have yet to live on campus but from having constantly visited, the dorms are immaculate. Very securely built and carefully organised, students are provided a high privilege while living here. The only complaint some students have living on campus is that there are many restrictions on how long and when people may visit. Some with boyfriends/girlfriends off-campus have been known to be uncomfortable with this policy.
Academic Rigor This school is far from perfect, but many of its professors have decided to teach here so that we may learn from their uncanny wisdom. Learning does not occur in an atypical way, and in this way there are quite often some challenges to face and overcome. Here at Edison we are learning not only for today, but for our unilaterally personal strengths in the future.
Tips for prospective students The students here seem shy, but do not be fooled. Talk to anyone and they will happily invite you to converse at length. Be bold, if you will, for at Edison you are amongst a multitude of soft-spoken (as well as multi-talented) innovators.
In three sentences An aesthetically beautiful campus with myriad outdoor locations where students can can and do express themselves artistically. Our professors vary from whimsically creative to liberally traditional. No students are chastised here for any expressed individuality; instead, students are praised and celebrated for their outstanding uniqueness.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lighting is abundant and campus security is visible. Cameras also are visible.
Greek Life I'm not a member.
Clubs and Activities Yoga, zumba, and many new types of activities are offered here.
Great for these types of students Students who want state-college academics but small- college life and class sizes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a gorgeous Edison statue outside the library that is facing a nice pond.
Bang for the buck For in-state tuition, it is cheaper than FGCU.
What to do for fun Visit the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall for Broadway shows. Beaches are 15 minutes away. Walk the beautiful grounds or visit the art hall.
Food and Dining The College has a cafeteria with buffet-style food as well as a Subway and MANY vending machines across the campus.
Academic Rigor Teachers and advisers are aggressive in helping you reach your goals.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of campus and speak to current students. If you want to play sports we offer intramural sports, but do not compete in the college circuit.
In three sentences Edison State College has many different class times and days to fit my work schedule. The teachers seem genuinely dedicated to our expansion or knowledge. I enjoy taking classes that have an eclectic mix of students (from dual-enrolled high school students to the 40-year-old Mom going back to school).

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security keeps very close surveillance on the students and their safety.
Greek Life There are no sororities or fraternities on campus, but there is talk of developing a few this coming 2014-2015 school year.
Clubs and Activities There are few clubs, but many activities on campus. For example, tomorrow night there is a black light party in the courtyard! All events ALWAYS provide free food!
Great for these types of students Great for student that have an easier time learning with smaller class sizes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a field behind the residence hall that students call the Bahyad. We use it to get away. Some play guitar, some play games, some just sit and take in their surroundings. It is a peaceful spot to clear stress.
Bang for the buck Housing is very nice and very affordable, and classes are as well.
What to do for fun There are always activities on campus, but also we have a recreational room open to all who reside in Lighthouse Commons. It has Game systems, Flat screen TV, Ovens, Fridge, Pool table and Ping-pong table.
Food and Dining Food is plenty and very affordable, but lacks variety.
Dorm Life The dormitories are brand new. They are beautifully decorated, spacious, and affordable compared to lesser dorms of universities. They are apartment style with a kitchen and living room and bathroom as shared space, but you have your own room. Housing is also made even more affordable with housing scholarships offered to any who apply and meet the minimum requirements.
Academic Rigor Classes could be more challenging, but the advantage of the slower pace is that more information is retained in your long-term memory.
Tips for prospective students I suggest to be on top of your classes. For example, reading a chapter that is covered in the next lecture beforehand. This not only allows you to clear up any discrepancy on the information during the lecture, but also the repetition stores the information in your brain; therefore, you are essentially studying without spending hours on the information. This also stores the information in your long term memory which helps you to recall later down the road when need the information for your major.
In three sentences Edison is a small campus with easy to understand classes and a smaller student body. It is very affordable whether you wish to live on or off campus. A family income of $20,000 a year could easily afford out of pocket expenses even if the student holds few or no scholarships or financial aid.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Edison State College has one of the best securities. Even when I'm walking to my car after a night class I feel safe because I know there is security all around me. There are stations set up in numerous spots throughout the campus. These stations have a button you can press if you feel threatened or in any kind of a danger. Press the button and a security officer will be there promptly. I have never run in to any danger at this campus, but it feels a lot safer knowing there are officers on campus.
Clubs and Activities Edison offers many activities to their students. For instance, there is a free yoga class outdoors a few times a week. There is also student government, an ethics debate club, a coexist club, and many more!
Great for these types of students Edison State College is known for their nursing program which I hear is pretty awesome. If students enjoy nature and the great outdoors they will definitely admires Edison's campus. Students that live in the dorms will find Edison great because of how close the campus is to different businesses, restaurants, parks, and malls.
Bang for the buck Edison State College is probably one of the most affordable campuses to attend to if you're an in-state student attending. Edison is ideal for students in Florida that want to pursue higher education without going into massive debt.
What to do for fun Edison State College is an ideal campus to attend because of how close it is to the beach, restaurants and malls. Students won't ever be board if they attend this campus. There are also numerous clubs and activities that students can be apart of. Such as yoga, student government, coexist club, and many more!
Food and Dining Edison State College offers a variety of meals to their students. Students can choose anything from salad to pizza. I've never eaten at the cafeteria, but I have seen it full of students enjoying their lunch while they are on break.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms at Edison, but I do know students that say they enjoy living on campus. Edison is close to many restaurants, stores, and other businesses so it is easy for students to commute to school and work if they decide to pick up a part-time job while in school. The dorms are much larger than some I have seen at various universities. The dorms were built in 2012, so the building has many new features that some don't. There's a gym, free wifi, and a huge courtyard for sports that make student life much more enjoyable.
Academic Rigor To be honest each class varies. For instance, I am not the best mathematician in the world, but when I took math at Edison State College I was able to comprehend various algebraic equations. The course started out easy and over time became more difficult. In my opinion the math class was difficult, but not overwhelmingly troublesome. Other classes like English and Speech were a lot easier for me and I really did enjoy the material my professors were teaching. All in all, I think Edison's academic rigor is very balanced.
Tips for prospective students Future students attending Edison State College should always pay attention to what their professors are trying to teach them. Furthermore, prospective students should show up to class prepared and on time. Forthcoming students should also get involved with their community so they can develop relationships with their peers and really be apart of the Edison State College.
In three sentences Edison State College has one of the most beautiful campuses in Lee County. The professors I've had make sure they are doing everything they can to make sure each student is on track and learning the material. They are very easy to communicate with in and outside of class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is pretty good security is tight in dorms. But there have been recent problems. But all handled promptly. I would rate a 5.
Greek Life They have frats here but probably not the same as big universities.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs available. I haven't tried any yet but hope to in future. I would rate this part a 4 since I haven't had personal experience .
Great for these types of students Great for students who need to boost their GPA before entering the university system and budget minded students .
Bang for the buck Great value for budget minded students who still want to live away from home and great choice for getting your AA to transfer at a much lower cost. I recommend this schools to my friends for that reason. I rate this a 5.
What to do for fun On campus, they have beach volleyball and basketball courts. At the dorm there is a nice fitness center. There is a pool table and big screen tv in a common area. They show movies in the performing arts bldg. Not lots to do on campus but beach and shopping close by makes the rating a 4
Food and Dining Probably a down side to Edison. We have a Pizza Hut and subway vendor which is alittle pricey because they don't have specials or coupons. Dining is being improved with expansions. Dining rates a 3.
Dorm Life Dorms are clean, and has 24hr. Security. I love the apt. style dorms for privacy and the cost is fair. Having your own bathroom and bedroom is a great choice and each dorms has a washer and dryer. Dorms are a real value and I give them a 5.
Academic Rigor The classes thus far seems pretty easy and straight forward. My Comp teacher was my favorite and she made the essays on topics that are interesting to college students. My fall term went well and I'm taking more difficult classes/more credits in spring. The academic rigor is probably a 3 on this scale. If you put forth the right effort you will be successful. I rate a 3.
Tips for prospective students Parking is free here which is a big plus. Be prepared for tight security in dorms. Not a big party school but still has some fun activities.
In three sentences Edison State college is a great choice for those students whose high school GPA didn't meet the university standard. Edison provides smaller classes, teachers that are available to help, and adequate transfer options if needed. Housing at Edison is exceptional with brand-new apartment style dorms and being close to beach is an additional plus.

Dorm Life There are no dorms...
Academic Rigor So far the classes are pretty easy.
In three sentences I attend Edison because it is conveniently located. I'm not sure what else to say about the place as I don't have any experience with a different college. Dorm Life Unfortunately I do not live in the dorms, however a few of my friends do and I hear it is amazing. It makes the college experience much more fun and you hav the opportunity to interact with other students outside of the classroom.
Academic Rigor There are many diverse classes here at Edison and it not only has to be all work, but there are also classes where you can have fun and expeience life. Who said field trips had to be for middle and high school? There are field trips at Edison too.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Well, since I am not all that involved with the school, I can't say much. But there are a bunch of clubs that is offered on campus and I intend to join a few soon. Plus they have a basketball court, volleyball pit, and a weight room(but only in the dorms -_-). And there is usually an event that happens Monday-Thursday and different times.
Food and Dining The food in the cafe is AMAZING!!!!!!! They have their own subway, breakfast, lunch, and i believe dinner menu (not on campus long enough to know), and a personal pizza area. I am not even going to touch on the drink section(too much to remember).
Dorm Life Personally, I can not touch on this subject mainly because I do not live on campus.
Academic Rigor Since you are not in high school anymore, the professors are more chill and some may not be as strict in the classroom with the students as you would think.
Tips for prospective students Talk to people you see around campus, they will not bite you. Also, get familiar with the campus because there tends to be new students appearing every week and asks for directions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is never anything not safe on campus; however, if there is there is always security guards around. Edison has students who are training to be police officers who are always around too!
Food and Dining They have a small cafeteria that offers things like hamburgers and french fries and things of that nature. In the cafeteria they have a subways, who doesn't always go along with the subways deals like on commercials, and a little pizza-hut stand which is kind of expensive. There is a great selection to choose from but you get tired after awhile and will end up leaving campus for cheaper food anyways.
Dorm Life The dorms are new there and have only been around for like 2 years. I have not stayed in the dorms yet but I've been in their recreation room which is very nice. The building is big, they have a lot to offer: gym, laundry, hangout rooms, and study rooms, they have top notch equipment: the tv, stove, and fridge (that i see in the recreation room) and the bathrooms were clean.
Academic Rigor The college is fairly easy and when you have difficult with things the professors are always open to help, show you what you did wrong and show you how to fix it too. They offer many workshops and tutoring for anyone having difficulties. Lessons and exams are often just straight forward, if you pay attention and ask for help when you need it there is no way you can fail.
Tips for prospective students Edison is a great college to start. I think its a good college to start out for your AA in general studies if that's what you want to pursue. I think its a great college for students who don't really know what they want to do with their future, educationally wise, to get a grasp on the college environment and still have the time to plan out their future as well.
In three sentences Edison College is a great starting college. Edison has helpful professors that offer all that they can to see each student reach their goal. It is a very clean and friendly environment too!

Dorm Life The new dorms at the Lighthouse Commons are very nice. They are definitely of great quality and are perfect size to start out with being on your own.
Academic Rigor Classes at Edison are just as hard and they are anywhere else. Professors challenge you and put a bigger load on you than high school does. It's definitely a challenge everyone can step up too but you have to put in plenty of time.
Tips for prospective students Definitely consider Edison because it's not as expensive, but offers the same courses. Make sure if you need extra help, to visit your professors office hours. Dorm Life from what I have seen and toured the dorms are beautiful and newly renovated on campus. I would love to live on campus at Edison
Academic Rigor I give the academics a 4 star because the college doesn't go up higher in bachelors degree. other than that ill attend.
Tips for prospective students When applying to Edison State College make sure you have proof of residency, transcripts if transferring or just a first timer in college, and take the placement test you would know where you stand in registered classes.
In three sentences I rate Edison a 4 out of 5, because it has a beautiful campus and some parts of the campus is under construction. I want to attend here and be able to pursue my dreams as becoming a nurse. I hope and pray that I do get accepted that would be a blessing to have.

Categories Comments Campus Safety No crimes have happened on the campus. The security makes sure that nothing happens and that all things are resolved as soon as possible.
Clubs and Activities They having amazing clubs for everybody. They have a paintball club, anime club, lasa, aasa, any many more for all interest.
Great for these types of students For people who want more from their professors and want to be closer to thnem.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The peace garden has a very good scenery and very calm.
Bang for the buck The classes are cheap and you get more one-on-one experience. The professors offer after-class help.
What to do for fun Joining the anime and paintball club is very fun. And every spring there is a spring fling that allows you to make teddy bears and face painting. Last, there is a fall prom that you can dress up and dance.
Food and Dining The food is very good and affordable. You can really expect to get more bang out of your buck. Also, there are special days when they mix the food up and create new things.
Dorm Life The dorms are fresh and new. The people in the dorms are very nice to each other. Also, the rules are very simple to follow.
Academic Rigor There is really no academic rigor if you focus on what you're supposed to do.
Tips for prospective students Always stay focused in class and make sure you come in enough time. Also, come early for a good seat in front of the class and do all assignments on time.
In three sentences It has a very nice facility and the people are very nice as well. Also, the teacher are one-on-one and very helpful. It's a decent sized campus and its easy to get around.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is fairly good here. there is almost always a public safety officer going by.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs that Edison offers. At the beginning of the spring and fall semesters there is a 'open house' so to speak for the clubs where the student body gets to see all the clubs and find out when and where they meet.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On Lee campus they offer Friday night, movie night. every Friday night the show a popular movie. the list of what movie and when so all you have to do is show up.
What to do for fun There isn't really a place to go on Lee campus for fun so most students make their own. but sometimes the student life building supplies fun things to do from Music Monday, where they bring in a DJ to play music during the day, to ice cream social on Thursdays
Food and Dining On lee campus there is one cafeteria and two cafes. the cafeteria is very big and offers a large variety of food and drinks, but the prices are a little high. the two cafes are small do also supply students with tables to they also function as a study area.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus but the dorms they have are nice. they are directly next to the campus so it's a 5 minute walk.
Academic Rigor The difficulty of course depends greatly on the major you are working for and your own personal strengths. If you are good in math someone else might not be and they feel like math is the hardest class. but for you it's easy. I suggest use ratemyproffessor.com to see how different professors conduct their classes.
Tips for prospective students Don't let the thought of actually going to college overwhelm you. Have a final goal in mind, even if its simply getting your AA degree, and take things one semester at a time. Learn how much you can handle course wise and make adjustments accordingly.
In three sentences Edison Lee campus is a little big for a first time student and I've seen a lot of people get lost. But once you get used to the layout it becomes almost laid back and relaxed. The professors are nice and almost always willing to answer a students question, as long as they are treated with respect.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is paramount here. I can honestly say that in taking late classes, that sometimes got out at 9:30 pm, I didn't fear for my safety. You can always see security guards on Segways or walking around or on golf carts.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life in the traditional sense at Edison, but we do have great organizations like Phi Theta Kappa.
Clubs and Activities The clubs and activities on campus are amazing. They show the newest movies and like I said above, you can pretty much get free food everyday!
Great for these types of students Edison is great for students who need to attend a school that is not expensive, local, and for those who are undecided on their major and need time to reflect.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I wouldn't say it's unusual but there a lot of places to watch Florida wildlife on campus which can be a very humorous pastime.
Bang for the buck Edison is so affordable that when you compare it to larger Florida Universities it's almost unbelievable. And that doesn't represent the quality of teachers either! There are truly some very intelligent professors here who are fun and want to help you learn and grow.
What to do for fun If you like to watch shows Barbara B. Mann is right on campus and students get a lower rate on tickets. Edison does a lot to make your experience here fun and they offer a lot of different activities to do. That includes free food!
Food and Dining The food at Edison is okay, but you should definitely try the french fries! There are no outside restaurants on campus but in the surrounding area there is a Starbucks, two Subways and more. Most of which offer discounts or coupons for students.
Dorm Life 2012-2013 was the first year that Edison had dorms. I personally did not live in them but I have friends who are. The reviews that I have heard are excellent. They are new, clean and spacious. Which is something that can not be said for a lot of University's dorms. They are also affordable and you are in a great living environment.
Academic Rigor The courses here can be challenging but the professors here are so willingly to help you succeed and do well that if you find that you are having troubles with either assignments or the material they will help you.
Tips for prospective students I would advise prospective students to pay attention to deadlines! And to not be afraid to try new thing and experiences. College is yes, about achieving your degree, but it's also a time to see the world and get out of your high school shell. It is truly a great place and the memories you make will stay with you forever.
In three sentences Edison is a truly a great school. I enjoyed attending here and I saved a lot of money doing so. Edison has a lot to offer and you can learn a lot about the world and yourself if you come here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Edison State College takes the safety and security of their students, staff and faculty very seriously; they have designed an open campus and make security officers accessible to everyone.
Great for these types of students Edison is the perfect place for students who can not afford the traditional 4 year college/university. You have the option of attending classes during the day or at night which makes it easier for you to work and go to school or to raise a family while attending college.
Bang for the buck Edison State College allows many more students to attend college for either a certificate, 2 year or 4 year degree at a reasonable price.
What to do for fun There is a large variety of clubs, groups and associations affiliated with Edison State College plus Friday night movie nights and other activities. There's always something going on.
Food and Dining The variety of food is great and the price is just right.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms however they are new and look real nice.
Academic Rigor The faculty of Edison really care about each of their students and though they challenge their students to stretch and learn they are always willing to help their students.
Tips for prospective students All prospective students should listen to the counselors and take advantage of the new student activities.
In three sentences The staff, faculty and students at Edison State College, Ft. Myers campus are all very friendly, helpful and welcoming to new students. Edison is still small enough for each student to receive the personal touch from the staff and faculty but large enough to create a variety of experiences one expects while attending college.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Fort Myers is a fairly boring town. I doubt teenagers will find much to do, and many things are rather far from the campus. On the campus itself there are various clubs you can join. Occasionally they have games set up outside the Student Hall, like basketball. They also show movies occasionally which are free for students. In addition there is the Barbara B. Mann, which you can find concerts and plays being performed.
Food and Dining The food is very mediocre. Each day they have their usual: things like grilled cheese, burgers, mozzarella sticks, omeletes, Pizza Hut pizzas, etc. Nothing impressive. Each day they have a new special but these are usually mediocre as well. I also find that the price is a little high considering the average quality. As far as spacing in the cafeteria, they could really use more. During lunch hours it can be difficult to find an empty table.
Dorm Life I have not actually lived in the dorms, nor have I been in them, so I can't comment.
Academic Rigor Academics at Edison aren't difficult at all. It feels more like a continuation of high school, and even then it's arguably on the same level. Professors are fairly lenient and most will offer some form of extra credit. So long as you do your homework, study, and demonstrate you care, you should pass every class.
Tips for prospective students There isn't much to prepare for: it just recently became upgraded from a community college to a state college. The classes aren't that difficult and the campus isn't large; you shouldn't get lost after the first couple days. Just be sure to do the work and listen to the professors, and you'll have no problem.
In three sentences Edison State College is very much what you make of it: if you want to enjoy it, you will. If you don't, you won't. It's certainly not the most prestigious school in the state, but it's nice, small, and has friendly staff.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Very cheap. Attend this college if you want to save money! Don't just jump into universities. Take the time to save money while you go to classes at Edison State College. Depending on which classes you take and how many, tuition can cost up to $2,000. If you have Bright Futures or any other scholarship, it will help tremendously with these expenses. Night and online classes are almost too convenient. Some professors have pdf files of their textbooks (depending on which professor you have), others don't even use the assigned textbook.
What to do for fun While there are clubs, they're a bit selective (2nd year students, Honor students). Also, if you have a hectic schedule, most clubs aren't flexible enough for you to join. There are some marathons and walking events for good causes (March of Dimes, Cancer Cure, etc). They do offer free ice cream almost every month. And, they have interesting plays and musical concerts annually.
Academic Rigor Edison is cheep and convenient. They do have a great nursing program, and they are best for getting the first two years of general classes out of the way. For the sake of expenses, I suggest Edison for the first two years AA Degree, then going on to a University for a Bachelors Degree. Edison is a community college. I don't know how other community colleges are, but the first two years are basically a review of what you learned in high school.
Tips for prospective students They are very flexible with night classes and online classes, so it is great for full time workers and back to school adults. The college also has a growing program for international students. There are almost no requirements to be accepted to Edison College.
In three sentences Edison state college is a great place to start. You always have councelor and professor are always available to help you. The new lighthouse commons are a great place to live.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are plenty of clubs to join and even if you don't it's not to hard to just hang out with friends and play some basketball on the new court.
Food and Dining The only places to eat on campus is the garden cafe is the student building and a small cafe in the library and medical building, they aren't much, but there are plenty of places a short drive from the campus to enjoy.
Dorm Life The rooms are huge, and everyone has their own. The dorms are new and way to impressive for the school. I'm not sure of the price but they aren't cheap. But with the money saved from tuition, you may be able to live pretty comfortably for a few years.
Academic Rigor The classes are good enough. Some are more difficult than others, just be careful not to over burden yourself, even a little cut can kill you if you have enough of them.
Tips for prospective students It's a nice place to get the hang of college, they have good medical course training and most of your student needs are within one building. Be sure to keep an eye open for any clubs or study groups, they are everywhere and a good idea to join.
In three sentences It's a good place to start off from. The price is cheap, and the classes are near each other. The college overall is not that bad.

Great for these types of students If you're a fulltime student, who is trying to work and pay for school. this is the place for you, easy to get in and out and reasonably priced
Bang for the buck You're getting accredited college courses for very little. It's a good deal for florida residents looking to get some courses for a reasonable price
Food and Dining Not bad, the snack shops are clean and cheap.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus
Academic Rigor Depending on the teacher, it can either be eerily easy, or a professor who actually wishes to challenge you
Tips for prospective students Don't get too bogged down with the idea of community college. It's not a bad school, just get through your classes until you can transfer and earn your degree

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Edison State College campus is so safe, its a tobacco free campus. So no smoking or bringing drug to campus and around campus we have a lot of blue pole that is used for security reasons, for example if you have class at night and you're walking to your car and notice someone following you, you can press the red button in the blue pole and public safety will come and help you. No matter where you are in campus here at Edison you are always safe.
Clubs and Activities There's a total of 35 clubs around campus and if students want to create their own clubs they can but just have to get it approve first. By being involved students become successful in the future and also learn how to be a leader.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of my favorite place at Edison is the inspirational garden whenever I feel discouraged or sad I go to it and relax and read those inspirational quotes they have and I always feel happy and believe I can achieve anything as long as I put my mind to it.
What to do for fun There's a lot of things you can do for fun. Every Wednesdays is wacky Wednesday which mean free foods and things to give away. We also have a basketball, flag football, yoga, zumba, sand volleyball court and many more. If you are more into other activities that does not involve a lot o f movement you can enjoy table tennis or playing chess.
Food and Dining Oh my god the food are good and there's different variety of food. Every week we have a different kind of food like pasta, Cuban sandwich, steak, chicken and much more. If you are a sushi person there's also that and my favorite place of all is Seattle's Best my favorite smoothies place besides Starbucks.
Dorm Life I am not living on campus but I've been there a couple times. Its so beautiful, accommodating, safe and everyone have their own room so no sharing with others and also the price for the dorm is affordable for all.
Academic Rigor All the classes are easy as long as you study for it, we are college students and it is our responsibility to be in our best appropriate behaviors and pass our classes whenever students fail their classes not only will it affect your GPA but also your financial aid status if you have financial aid.
Tips for prospective students The advice I would give to first time college students are to use the resources around campus because it will be useful to students in their first year of college. One of those resources is the writing center, the tutoring center, and the math center. Those resources will be useful when it comes to subjects that are unknown and of course the library for help in finding resources for your research paper in order to avoid plagiarism. I will also advise first time in college students to be involved in campus, there are a lot of clubs in the campus, by being involve it help students become more successful. One more important thing I forgot to mention is to check your Edison portal every day so you do not miss any important messages. Apply for SSS which stands for Student Support Services, it is a program for low income first time in college students that help with academic advising, tutoring, and many more. This program had helped me tremendously I do not even know where I would have been. If you are planning to transfer to another university after getting your AA, I suggest you talk to an advisor in the university you are planning to transfer to or an Edison advisor depending on your major. Talk to them about what classes to take for your major. If you are undecided visit the career services because they will help you tremendously, they have career tests that you can take, and they also help the student find internships, help you build your resume, cover letter and so on. If you want to be successful become involved in school because hard works pay off later.
In three sentences Edison State College is the best community college ever, it is my second home when am not at home. The people here are friendly and are willing to help when you need help. It just have no word to describe how beautiful and accommodating it is.

Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs are available. Intramural sports are also an option.

What to do for fun Are you kidding? Your in Southwest Florida, 15 minutes from the beach.
Food and Dining Dining facility is great. Its cheap too.
Dorm Life Brand new dorms have been constructed on campus.
Academic Rigor Its as hard as you make it. Some professors are harder than other, but it really comes down to how much effort you as a student put into it.
Tips for prospective students My first tip for students would be to choose a course of study that you are interested in, not your parents. The second piece of advice I would give is to schedule time to study and do your course work. Lastly, I would suggest you get involved in extracurricular activities and clubs so you can meet some new people.
In three sentences Edison is a fun place to study. The instructors are mostly adjuncts which are folks who have had their first careers and are now teaching the next generation and sharing their life experiences. Edison has many non-traditional students, eg. older students going back to school.

For example, if you have parked in the parking lot at night (or anytime of day for that matter) and dont feel safe walking to your car there are emergency buttons on the light poles you can press and security will escort you to your car. Thr dorms also have 24-7 security as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe. Since I've been at Edison there hasn't been any shootings or anything of that nature. I have never felt unsafe while at Edison.
Greek Life I'm not a person to speak on Greek Life. I go to my classes, go to the library and do whatever homework I have, and I go home. I never hear anyone talking about Greek Life at Edison either so I'm not sure how that goes.
Clubs and Activities Edison has quite a bit of clubs and activities. I do not participate in any of the clubs. One of the nice activities they have is a movie night where they play a movie at the college. It's really nice.
Food and Dining The food is okay. There are Pizza Hut personal pan pizza's in the cafe. They make burgers and fries at the grill. They also make subs in the deli. But the food is expensive.
Dorm Life Edison does not have dorms yet. Everyone attending Edison either lives at home with their parents, or has their own apartments. But they are in the process of building them.
Academic Rigor Edison is not that hard. It really depends on the teachers you take. Make SURE you check the Rate My Professor website if you don't want a really hard teacher.

Categories Comments Campus Safety From what I can tell, the campus seems pretty safe. There are phones and assistance towers located throughout campus and a parking lot adjacent to every building so that a student isn't walking too far to their car after class.
Great for these types of students Great for any student, whether you are unsure of your career choice or have a plan, there are many options to choose from.
Bang for the buck All things considered, Edison has a lot to offer a student within reason. Though the Pell grant is more than enough to cover the cost of tuition and classes, additional money is still needed to cover the cost of living.
What to do for fun There are many on campus clubs and organizations and there are additional restaurants and things to do located nearby. There is no way to be bored on campus or in it's vicinity.
Food and Dining I love that the cafeteria is affordable and offers many options for every dietary need.
Dorm Life I don't plan on living in the dorms, as I have my own home, but from what I can tell, they seem very nice and comfortable.
Academic Rigor I have yet to start class, but my required amount of credits seems hardly overwhelming.
Tips for prospective students Know what you plan to do and come prepared when enrolling.
In three sentences Edison's staff is very friendly and helpful. Every question I asked was answered with enthusiasm and the utmost assistance. I feel very relaxed and excited about starting my career at Edison State College.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Edison is ranked #1 in the state of Florida for safety. We have 24/7 security, and safety posts all around campus. The posts are there in case you don't see a security guard. What the posts do is contact the security station that there is a problem in an area. All you have to do is press a button and within minutes a guard will be there to help you.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs and activities to get involved with. They all relate to hobbies and interests of the students. They do great work for the community, and really build friendships among the students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My favorite location on campus is the Garden of Meditation. There's plants and flowers all around the koi pond, and it's just relaxing to be inside of it. They have benches set up around so it's easy to chill and study out there.
Bang for the buck Edison is not only involved in campus life, but in the community as well. We have a lot of events that come to Fort Myers, and Edison will get tickets for us that we can either get for free or at a discounted price. Things like: baseball tickets, concert tickets, broadway shows, and hockey tickets.
What to do for fun Clubs! The clubs are an amazing thing to get involved with. They are always creating events around campus, and it really creates new friendships. Wednesdays are called Wacky Wednesdays, and student life always has free food and a fun activity to do. Thursdays are ice cream day, and you can get FREE ice cream. Friday's are movie days. Student life always has a great movie for us to watch for free. There's also the intramural sports that are fun to get involved with.
Food and Dining The food at Edison is really good. Everything is made in front of you at the Garden Cafe, so you know that it's fresh. The Garden Cafe has a deli, grill, salad bar, and a pizza hut. They've also recently gotten sushi from a local restaurant, and it's great! Outside of the Edison library is the Rush Coffee Shop. They have all sorts of coffee, smoothies, and baked goods there. The staff is excellent and the environment is awesome. I love to go there and just study at one of the tables. Edison also just recently built a Grab and Go where students can get pre-made meals if they are in a hurry.
Dorm Life Edison has one dorm building called the Lighthouse Commons. It's opening date is August 2012. I will be living in the dorm this coming fall semester. I've been on all of the tours they've had, and gone to all of the meetings about them. The dorm is actually more of an apartment style more than a regular dorm style. Each student gets their own room. You can choose between a 4 bedroom/2 bathroom or a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom. Each dorm room is equipped with a kitchen, common area with furniture, a washer and dryer, cable, air conditioning, and free wifi. Each individual room has a full size bed, desk, nightstand, and closet. The dorm has 24/7 security, a 3rd floor study area equipped with computers, a fitness center, a recreational room, outside grills, and personal parking. The dorm is amazing, and I totally recommend living in them.
Academic Rigor As always there are going to be classes that are easier than others. Edison has a good variety of classes, and if you already know your major then you should know the type of classes you're going to need to take. There are classes that will challenge you more than others, but there are also classes that will help you discover your passion.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. There are tons of clubs at Edison that you can join. The clubs help you get to know other students, and provide study buddies for classes. The clubs really make you feel like you are a part of the school. Also, take advantage of the tutoring centers. If you need help in a subject the school has places on campus that will help you study. The workers there are extremely helpful and patient.
In three sentences Edison State College is fantastic on all levels. The professors and staff are very helpful with anything that you need, and have an understanding about life outside of college. The academic standards are outstanding, and they really challenge you to know the subject you are studying.

What to do for fun There are many free events that take place at Edison State College including little festival type events with popcorn, cotton candy, funnel cake and sno cones. Dorm Life I haven't personally been in the new dorms but I hear they are gorgeous and very nice to live in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are very well training and in abundance. They even are the leaders of the self defense classes that are held on campus at certain times of the year, and of course there is an emergency posts placed all around campus.
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities Many clubs and activities to choose from and too many to list.
Great for these types of students What I have found is that this place is a good college for students who are working and trying to go to school at the same time. They choose this school because the prices for classes are very cheap. Most of the students are paying for their own college and understand how important class is.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An unusual location is the Barbara B. Mann performance arts center because it is a great place to go see a play and is located on campus. It is great for theater students and has a great discount for students who want to see a play at the center.
Bang for the buck This is a great bang for your buck because this college is all about giving back to the students. They give out a monthly calendar full of events for students with things like an ice cream social where each Tuesday of the month free ice cream is handed out and is a great social gathering to meet others.
Food and Dining This campus has two major locations for food. In the main student life building is where the cafeteria is located and is the main source of food. The second place is near the library and is a smaller cafe where you can find coffee, sandwiches, and small snacks. Also around campus there are other places that have vending machines for both sodas and snacks.
Dorm Life The dorms are brand new this year and have a gym area and study rooms on every floor. They even have the top floor reserved especially for students in the health field .
Academic Rigor The teachers at this college are very supportive towards helping students if there is a subject that is not understood and harder than other chapters. Some classes are harder than others, but there are plenty of tutor centers for every subject if help is needed. For an Associates in Arts the academic rigor is fair, and not very hard.
Tips for prospective students They keep you active in student life with new fun things happening everyday, which is proven that the more students are involved in school the better success rate for graduating. The school is smaller than a typical university but has the opportunity to live on campus and is a growing school. This campus is also smoke-free.
In three sentences Edison State College has a beautiful campus with a diverse group of students ranging from duel-enrollment students to adults going back to school to earn a better education. The classes are small and the teachers are more involved with the students than at a typical university. It's a great school for people who aren't so great at school and need a first step and a confidence booster to get ready to make that second step to a university after completing their associates degree.

Clubs and Activities Great variety, tons of clubs! Just ask student government and they will be happy to guide you in the right direction (a lot of them lead groups too) .
Great for these types of students Single moms, low-income, people who are working but also trying to get a degree. Great for parents who want to pay for their son/daughters college but don't want to go into a ton of debt. Children can still live at home and save on dorm fees, and other expenses.
Bang for the buck It's affordable, except used to charge you for parking even though you were on online student.....
What to do for fun Everything, the student government has a lot of things going on like music, movies, baseball, and hockey games! Plus, free food days (cotton candy, popcorn, and hot chocolate in winter) and live music played by other students! Great fun atmosphere when you find the days/times!
Food and Dining Great selection and variety, opened up a few coffee shops around campus, food staff are all extremely nice and fun to be around!
Dorm Life They just build dorms within a hundred feet of the campus, they're brand new and amazing. I wish they were around when I was starting school there. Driving an hour and a half two days a week before I lived closer to school was torture!
Academic Rigor Standard requirements some professors are amazing, some seem to busy with other work to give you the time of day.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus appears to be a very safe place to get a good education. According to some reports it is said that it is ranked in the top 10 safest schools in the country.
Clubs and Activities I am sure they have all type of clubs and activities, but it's still really earlier to tell at this time since i will not be starting until the fall of 2012.
Great for these types of students The school seems to be good for students that are looking for a safe nice environment to be on order to get a very good education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus No unsual traditions to share at this time.
Bang for the buck Nothing to tell at this time since i have started going there yet, but it appears to be a nice and clean environment to be.
What to do for fun I haven't had a chance to really view the city, but it appears to have a lot of things to do on your down time. Additionally, it appears to be a safe place to be too.
Food and Dining There seems to be a lot of food and dining opportunities since the school is located near a mall.
Dorm Life Dorm life seems to be excited, but again it still early to tell since this will be the first time i stayed away from home.
Academic Rigor Still early to tell since i will not start until August.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you have all of your paperwork together, and you will get handled promptly by the staff.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe. I've only heard of a couple issues with cars being broken into within about two years but that's about it.
Greek Life I think you can joins sororities and fraternities but they are not too big at Edison. I can see them becoming something more in the future though. The campus is continually growing.
Clubs and Activities There are all types of extracurricular and non academic clubs to choose from. There are also sports teams.
Great for these types of students If you are not into the huge universities or ones that are too expensive Edison would be a great choice. It offers many things to do and has a lot of places such as malls, restaurants, and movie theaters around it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are poetry jams with readings and musical performances each year. I went one year for extra credit and it was actually a lot of fun. It's free with free food. There is also a holocaust memorial each year with survivors that is free. The Barbara B. Mann is located on our campus which is one of the major downfalls because at certain times of the year parking can be pretty bad. Parking is getting better but it still causes problems.
Bang for the buck Compared to other small universities in the area Edison is a lot cheaper. Classes at some of the universities are three times as much as Edison and you can still get a great education. More classes and programs are added each year.
What to do for fun There are always free movie showings going on. Usually a couple movies a week and they are almost always new. There are spring flings, dances, performances, poetry readings, sports, and yoga. You can also join clubs and not all are about academics.
Food and Dining We have a cafeteria and another small cafe. The cafeteria has a variety of choices, from what they make personally to pizza hut and I think a subway. There are also vending machines if you need a quick snack and they are all over campus. The cafe sells most things that you would find at a coffee house: shakes, frapes, drinks, and pastries.
Dorm Life There dorms will be opening in Fall 2012 so there is not much to say about them yet, But they are brand new buildings and I would expect them to be pretty nice looking.
Academic Rigor Every class and professor is different. Some are more laid back while others you may not even see daylight besides going to class because you will have to study so much or fail the class.
Tips for prospective students If you are coming from high school it will be very different at first. No one is there to hold your hand and keep giving second chances. Some professors will give you more guidance than others but there are no excuses anymore.
In three sentences Even though Edison is a community college, I feel like it is a big name college just because it always has great and fun extracurricular activities going on. The teachers really care about your success as a student and a future employer. They are always willing to help if you are willing to put in the effort.

Dorm Life I haven't lived in the dorm, because they have been in the process of being built. But I'm really excited!
Academic Rigor In the classes that I have had we were able to work together to figure out challenging problems. Using our surroundings and bouncing ideas off of other students. We are learning great life skills, that can only be learned with hands on learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Edison is a great school for students who are also parents and full-time employees.
What to do for fun At Edison? There isn't much on campus to do for fun. Really, unless you like the beach or sitting around home there isn't much to do in Southwest Florida in general. You have to really want to live here.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should work hard at turning assignments in on time as the professors are pretty strict about deadlines. Future students should also be advised that there are decent student jobs available all over Fort Myers.
In three sentences Edison is a great school for the parent/student learner. The ratio of professor/student is very good and professors are attentive for the most part. The school is in a great location and class times are suitable for students who have to work full time while going to school full time.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus is very safe, we have several campus patrol personnel that constantly drive around campus in golf carts, segways, and walk. The parking lots are well lit at night and campus security is always patrolling the parking lots.
Greek Life I am sorry but I know nothing about the Greek life at this campus.
Clubs and Activities There are very few clubs at this school outside of the the normal, the honor society, newspaper, photography and maybe a few others. As far as activities, we may have 1 or 2 a month such as build a bear, or something to do with food. Other than that it is pretty quiet.
Great for these types of students Students who want to have a laid back environment with some great professors. There really are no clicks here which is nice for a student who wants to come to school and learn and not worry about their social standards. This school is great for older people as well because of the age range we have with the students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This is not a school with sorority's so there really aren't any weird and unusual traditions. This school is pretty laid back and everyone pretty much gets along with one another.
Bang for the buck I say that the education you get for the money you pay is excellent. I have attended another state college and a University and this is by far the cheapest school I have seen. I did some research on the schools in this area and found this school to be much less expensive than surrounding schools.
What to do for fun There really isn't anything to do for fun on this campus. It was a community college until recently, and although it is now a state college, they have not upgraded to the state level of having any extra curricular activities.
Food and Dining The food is good but I wish they had a better selection. There are 3 places on campus to grab food however it is not the most healthy food and is a bit expensive for what you are getting.
Dorm Life I am not sure about dorm life. They are in the process of building dorms that should be up and running this summer. This will be the first dorms that Edison has ever had!
Academic Rigor I am rating this a 4 based solely on the accreditation problems they are having. I would say 95% of the professors are outstanding. The office people are usually helpfull.
Tips for prospective students Check their accreditation's, if you are thinking of attending a program. Make sure you fill out your FAFSA and if your not sure of something go to financial aid and ask, they will not contact you to let you know that something was filled out incorrectly. You are going to college, this is not grade school, what you put in to your classes is what you will get out of it.
In three sentences I think the education one will get there is outstanding. However, Edison has been in some trouble with their BA in nursing accreditation, and has tried to sweep it under the rug. Overall I feel the professors do a great job in teaching!

Great for these types of students It is great for every type of students. There is such a variety of the people here, that everyone fits in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have gardens throughout the school you can relax and do homework in. They also have many campaigns you can take part in.

What to do for fun This school has many activities for everyday you're at school. Also, there is the theatre right next to the school and they are always putting on shows.
Food and Dining They have a coffee shop that is to die for! Also, the cafeteria food is amazing!
Dorm Life The dorms are still being built, but about to finish. They have a walk in model that is amazing! It differs from other dorms because it is much more spacious, and the beds are bigger. Also, the bathroom is big.
Academic Rigor I chose nursing for my major here, but there is just so many options. Anything that interests you, they have classes for it. The teachers here are outstanding!
Tips for prospective students Edison is a very friendly school. Do not hesitate to ask questions. This school has so many options for whatever it is you want to do.

Food and Dining There are a few different choices in the cafeteria ranging from pizza and deli sandwiches to cooked specials everyday. There is also a cafe on campus with great coffee and smoothies.
Dorm Life Edison is currently building dorms which will be done by about Fall 2012.
Academic Rigor Edison is a place to go for many people who are returning to college or hoping to receive a lower level degree. It's better for specialized degrees such as Nursing versus getting an Associate's in Arts.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should definately check out the first year student advising office and hang around Student Life as there are many free and fun events.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They are everywhere, you can not get away from them. Plus they will walk you to your car if you have late night classes.
Bang for the buck The tuition is super cheap! I took about 13 credits for one semester and the tuition and fees were about $1500. I had the bright futures scholarship and it brought my total for the semester down to $700. Plus the school offers financial aid to those who qualify and they accept bright futures.
What to do for fun The school holds fun days or student festivals where they serve free food, games, and prizes. They also have movie fridays and are close to shopping and movie theaters.
Food and Dining Edison has two eating facilities and many vending machines. The cafeteria has good food at reasonable prices, just not too much to chose from. I usually go to the on site Pizza Hut. There is also a small coffee cafe in the library the has small snack like things.
Dorm Life During the time I attended Edison housing was not available. They are currently building the dorms and they will be brand new for summer or fall 2012 I believe.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes here that I have taken are not very challenging. There are a few professors who live to make their class an exception and try their hardest to make your life miserable. I am transferring out for the fall of 2012 with my AA and have only had two or three hard classes.
Tips for prospective students If you drive a car to class, get there extra early because the parking lots are WAY too small. When choosing your classes, sign up early for the best spots otherwise you may lose out. The school is open enrollment, so they accept everyone, even last minute ones.
In three sentences Edison has a nice campus and is easy to navigate through. The professors vary, some are awesome and can teach you the moon, others not so much. The students are friendly and will always help out someone in need.

What to do for fun If you are married and work full time and extra 5 minutes of sleep is a real fiesta!

Great for these types of students Commuters, single parents, students with families, full-time working students, returning students, basically all types of students, except those looking for a party school.
Bang for the buck Its less expensive than university prices, and you're getting the same degree. Although book store prices are high!
What to do for fun While there are occasional on campus events going on, this is a small school, with graduation oriented goals so the level of fun is kept to a minimum.
Food and Dining Good food, but I think its too expensive for college students.
Dorm Life They just opened dorms on the Lee Campus, I'm not sure how that will go.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there have been a few incidents in the parking lots at edison. i think they're getting better at keeping students more safe though. they have installed these, help towers, and people ride around in the golf carts making sure things are okay.
Clubs and Activities there are few clubs but not much of a variety in my opinion.
Great for these types of students this school is great for first time college students, students looking for a simple degree, and for high school dual enrollment students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are a few musicians who come on monday for, music monday. there's also a few nice places to sit, relax or study on campus. plus, every few months the school holds a art show in their gallery.
Bang for the buck edison's tuition isn't that bad for what you get. there's free tutoring and the professors are more than willing to help you with a lot.
What to do for fun everyday edison offers something different for the students to enjoy. there are, music monday's, wacky wednesday's and ice cream socials. there are also some clubs and awareness meetings that are held at the school as well.
Food and Dining edison's choices are very limited and some are rather unhealthy. they have a decent salad bar and are now offering fresh-made sushi.
Dorm Life right now edison is working on getting dorm up and running. they said everything should be ready to go in fall of 2012.
Academic Rigor academically, edison is only a 3 in my book. i find the classes not challenging enough but i see other students struggling. most of the professors there offer their time to help the struggling students become better learners.
Tips for prospective students edison state college is a school limited choices. if you're like me, this school is just to test the waters and get some prerequisite courses out of the way. unless you're planning on just getting a simple degree, this school really isn't for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i often see security officers around campus for safety as well as many stations to call police through the campus. very interested in student safety.
Greek Life none currently. the college is growing fast though!
Clubs and Activities many and many clubs. the only one i have checked out is the yoga club! it was very worth the time, got a great work out and it was free.
Great for these types of students great for the types of students that want to do their classes and go home or to the library to study. it is in the heart of the town and is very cheap.
Bang for the buck edison overall has a very cheap credit hour price compared to universities.
What to do for fun edison always has surprises outside of the main hall such as free ice cream sundaes or snow cones. it is a state college though, not a university so the fun on campus is limited. just a short drive down the street though and there is a great night life.
Food and Dining edison has a great cafeteria with a large selection of food as well as a cafe in the library for your coffee and snack needs. both are centrally located though not right next to each other, wherever you are on campus, you are not too far from a quick snack or a nice meal. there are also vending machines all over campus.
Dorm Life no dorms currently, but they are being constructed as i type! i am looking forward to seeing how they will turn out, though i will still be living off campus, i will recommend them to incoming students.
Academic Rigor edison is not a very difficult school as far as i have seen. i always look my teachers up and research them before taking there class so i am never in for any scary surprises.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is always security patrolling campus grounds and the parking lots. there are also remote notification posts located across the campus so that students can press a button to signal if they need assistance.
Bang for the buck tuition is very inexpensive, and you definitely get more than expected! the education i'm receiving at esc has proved to be more valuable than what i actually paid for the tuiton. quite the steal!
What to do for fun there's always something new to do on campus. intramural sports, music mondays (music is played outside of the student services center), movie fridays (free movies for students to watch), etc...
Food and Dining the on-campus cafeteria serves great tasting food, and has a nice variety!
Dorm Life esc's new state-of-the-art dorm complex is slated to open fall of 2012.
Tips for prospective students learn how to navigate the edison portal, as this will be a vital tool in keeping up-to-date with events, contacting professors and keeping in touch with classmates.
In three sentences i have attended other schools, and none of them come close to esc! the campus is beautiful (clean, relaxing environment, and smoke-free campus!), the professors are very helpful and classes are relatively small so you get that one-on-one attention that most college students seek. a+ for esc! :)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who want a decent education without spending all that money.
Tips for prospective students Apply, turn in paperwork, and register for classes as early as possible. It's harder to take certain classes with the best professors and at good times if you wait too long to register for class. And if Edison tries to tell you you're missing credit when you know for certain that you're not, fight for yourself until the very end.
Bang for the buck Very inexpensive, great for someone who doesn't have much money. With Bright Futures and financial aid, you really should have much to worry about when it comes to money...even though Edison doesn't always process that information right away.
Am enjoying being here There are lots of clubs and activities happening all the time, which is great - I was worried that I wasn't going to get that whole college experience that I was expecting. The campus is pretty and the people at the registry are really kind, but I don't really know if I enjoy Edison as of yet. Based upon what my friends who managed to get their AA's through dual enrollment at Edison told me, Edison tends to lose track of information; they're not exactly organized. One of my friends actually had to fight with the school for her credits. She had received enough credits to get her AA, but they were trying to tell her that she was a few credits short. Oh, and this is personal experience - I'm supposed to be getting money from Bright Futures but I apparently am not going to get ANY of it until September 6th, but by that point I'll already have been in class for two weeks and have payed for my tuition and books...I'm really upset that I might have to pay out of pocket for my tuition and books when I HAVE money from Bright Futures I can use! Other than that, I'm still remaining a bit positive about school. It could be worse, honestly.
Am learning a lot I took dual enrollment classes at Edison in the past, and now that I've graduated, I'm enrolled full time. Based on the classes I've already taken, I can honestly say that I have learned new things that I'm going to keep with me for a long time.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Recent High school graduates, Undecided majors, people who want to save $$, transient students, transfer students. If you work full time there are lots of night/online classes but, that doesn't necessarily mean all of the classes you'll need will be available at night or online.
Tips for prospective students * If you need to take remedial classes complete them ASAP!! They will prevent you from getting into your important classes. Get them out of the way and take advantage of the Learning Lab if you need help. * Get you papers/transcripts/FAFSA stuff done EARLY! * Keep copies of everything you've turned in. * Certain campuses run out of classes faster than others. Find out what the popular classes are and if you need one of them try to get into them as soon as your eligible. Especially if one is a prerequisite for another! *See an advisor wayyy before the first day of any registration date. Otherwise you'll have to wait in line for awhile. If it can't be helped, bring something to do. *Financial Aid is hectic towards the beginning of a new semester. You can check to see if your FAFSA has been received and processed through your Portal. *Read your E-mails.
Bang for the buck Most definitely. Why pay the university rates for the same classes being offered at Edison? Get you AA from Edison and transfer to a University later. You'll need the money later for something else.
Did enjoy being here During my time at Edison I enjoyed myself. Joining a club or working for the school really makes it a much more pleasant experience. Plus you'll meet new people that way.
Did learn a lot If you were in honors courses in high school the lower level classes are an in depth review of what you've already learned. As you progress and if put effort into your studies you will most definitely learn a lot. Take advantage of the Learning Lab as well as your professor's office hours. They are there to help. If the book assignments are not required to be turned in do them anyway! Professors don't assign something for no reason. It could show up in the Final exam. Have you ever taken an exam and said when the heck did we do this?.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Always talk to the professor before taking the entry level class to see if you can skip it or test out.
Bang for the buck Extremely worth it!!! Dont waste money at a big university when you can pay less. I have had classes with 6 and 7 students. Talk about individual attention.
Am enjoying being here I have not had a dull moment since I've been here!!! Always fun stuff going on!
Am learning a lot It really depends on your seat to butt ratio. What are you bringing to the equation? I don't recommend Statistics.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to save money instead of heading right to universities.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get all your paperwork in on time. The financial office tends to be a bit sloppy with your paperwork, so have copies of everything just in case. Financial aid seems to come in a couple weeks late (sometimes 1 month flies by), so brace yourself. Also, academic advisors tend to be extremely busy most of the time, so schedule a meeting with them well in advance (weeks ahead). If you have morning classes, come to school 30 minutes to 1 hour earlier so you can park closer to your classroom. Try not to fool around a lot; it's easy to get lost in your material.
Bang for the buck Very cheap.
Am enjoying being here While there are clubs, they're a bit selective (2nd year students, Honor students). Also, if you have a hectic schedule, most clubs aren't flexible enough for you to join. There are some marathons and walking events for good causes (March of Dimes, Cancer Cure, etc). They do offer free ice cream almost every month. And, they have interesting plays and musical concerts annually.
Am learning a lot Most of what we talk about in class, you should already know in high school. However, with the more advanced classes (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Composition), they take you into a deeper world, seeing as you have more to explore certain topics.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Edison is, like I said, a good opportunity to get the first two years, AA Degree, out of the way. They are very flexible with night classes and online classes, so it is great for full time workers and back to school adults. The college also has a growing program for international students.
Tips for prospective students There are almost no requirements to be accepted to Edison College. They are very lenient, but I suggest you register online. And during registration and financial services, make sure you get your paper work sorted out with plenty enough time to spare, because their admissions office is unorganized.
Bang for the buck Edison is cheep and convenient. They do have a great nursing program, and they are best for getting the first two years of general classes out of the way. For the sake of expenses, I suggest Edison for the first two years AA Degree, then going on to a University for a Bachelors Degree.
Am enjoying being here It's a bit boring here. There are not any interesting events going on. We did have events on Tuesdays last semester, but besides that, the campus is pretty small and plain. It works as a community college to get the basic classes out of the way.
Am learning a lot Edison is a community college. I don't know how other community colleges are, but the first two years are basically a review of what you learned in high school. I'm not learning anything I didn't already know.
