    Campus Safety

Sometimes the office cops will drive golf carts around and offer students rides from the far sides of campus to the main parking areas. They are always out patrolling at night; I definitely feel safe here.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a lot of diverse clubs. I was surprised to hear we had a latin dance club, where they practice routines and compete. Also, they have a strong sign language community.

Great for these types of students

Full time working students; they offer a lot of general ed. night classes. And Deaf students; they have an amazing Sign Language program and all of their interpreters are awesome.

    Bang for the buck

There are some great professors here and their titles will come in handy later when you are looking for academic references.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers here are great, I haven't had a bad teacher here.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely meet with your counselor and plan out your classes; let them know where you want to transfer and they will tell you how to get there.

    In three sentences

Out of the three different community colleges I've attended, El Camino is by far my favorite school. The teachers here are amazing and the counselors are even better.

    What to do for fun

El Camino has many areas to socialize through campus. There are certain sports that males and females could participate in.

    Food and Dining

El Camino is surrounded by many fast food restaurants. For example, such as, McDonalds, Subway, Jamba juice.

    Dorm Life

I'm not too familiar with El Camino having any residence halls.

    Academic Rigor

I have not yet entered an academic class, but most likely there would be plenty of homework. Also depending on the intended major and teacher you will have.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure students register and meet with their counselor because it might be packed. Also make an appointment for a campus tour. Take your placement exams, Math and English.

    In three sentences

El Camino College is a great school for starters. with the aid of El Camino, many students will be to transfer and finish with another school and receiving a degree.

    Campus Safety

The safety on the campus is great. When you are taking night class you are able to have a campus police drive you to your car in their cart. Also in the parking lot there are police button that you press when you feel that you are in danger.

    Bang for the buck

The classes are at a good price and you are able to take classes you are interested in.

    Food and Dining

El Camino has food stores and places to eat inside the campus but also across the street there are many fast food places to choose from as well as restaurants to choose from.

    Dorm Life

As for the dorm life at El Camino Community College, I would not be able to give a fair rating because I do not live in the dorms or housing that El Camino has.

    Academic Rigor

Being at El Camino Community College has given me the chance to take different courses that I might have considered as a possible career path.

    Tips for prospective students

One main tip I have for prospective students is do not fool around when you get to El Camino because in the end the only person that you are going to make a fool is yourself. Take your life goals seriously.

    In three sentences

El Camino Community College has offered many programs to choose from and now I have found a program that I am interested in. This college has also been a great experience because the professor here show they are there to help you if you show them you care. Finally, being at El Camino had showed me that you have to show you care or else no one is going to hand you your education, goals, or dreams; you have to give initiative to move forward.

    What to do for fun

Not much to do for fun, other than talk to friends.

    Food and Dining

    Food on campus and off.

    Dorm Life

    No dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

    Not that rigorous.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to either join the program F.Y.E or Honors Transfer.

    In three sentences

I've had nothing but good experiences. If I had any issue with El Camino, it would be the administration changing the professor at the last minute, without letting us know. Other than that, El Camino is a great two year college to attend.

    Campus Safety

There are always security guards around and I have taken a few night classes. It is not a lonely school, so you will not feel isolated during the day or at night, plus the busy food places across the street may give you some comfort. I still recommend that you do not walk aimlessly across the campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a cast range of clubs on campus, from subjects of anthropology to sociology to salsa dance clubs to medical student clubs. You name it, they got it! And their activities are SO much fun.

Great for these types of students

The student range is so wide, so it is great for young newcomers after high school, or established adults looking for a new path.

    Bang for the buck

Try your best to get a counselor, so you can create an educational plan. This way you will not be stuck in limbo at this college taking non-transferable classes. And financial aid is super useful in tuition.

    What to do for fun

There are so many clubs and organizations to be a part of that offer great fun activities. It is easy to socialize with some students too.

    Food and Dining

The food is a tad bit overpriced, but it is good. There are also a bunch of fast food options across the street and a subway if you want to be on the healthier side.

    Dorm Life

From what I know, dorms are not offered here. But commuting is easy with all the bus routes. If you have a car, parking is horrendous. Living off campus in nice and safe in the town of Torrance, but rent can be really expensive. Get roommates!

    Academic Rigor

Obviously, you are in school for a reason, so that determination alone will get you ahead. Every teacher is different in there academic styles, but if you have an interest in the class, you will do well.

    Tips for prospective students

Because of all the students registering at the same time, it can be hard to get into the classes you need or want to enroll in. To solve this problem, join a program like EOPS, first-year experience, honors transfer program, or something that gets you priority registration. Use ratemyproffessor.com, a lot the faculty have ratings on there; that way you know what teacher has the teacher style best suited for you.

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful and the student range is wide. The educational opportunity is vast, with great rates for transfer students as well as associate degree options. It is easy to attend, but there are a lot of students applying and registering.

I have never felt like my life was in danger

    Bang for the buck

Students are very nice and will go out of there way for help, just dont expect this once you leave El Camino.

    What to do for fun

well it is up to the student to find out what to do for fun. El Camino has games and many can go to and concerts are a normal thing there in the auditorium.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright but like many would of figured, it is a bit overpriced.

    Dorm Life

    i know nothing of this....

    Academic Rigor

It matters from class to class. i have tooken classes that is actually needs effort to fail. i have also taken classes where they are very difficult and alot of studying is needed.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip i would tell students is to use all the programs that are given. One huge program that helps students and has even helped me is a program called EOPS. It helps students with a finer grasp on what future one might want to take.

    In three sentences

El Camino College is a diverse college campus that has teachers that want to help students fulfill their dreams. I would rate the school, 4 out of 5 stars. You might find some students who truly don't belong but as long as you stay on track, you will succeed.

There are a ton of clubs and school activities happen year round! Great for making new friends. For the boys there is a game stop right in front of school and a comic book store.

    Food and Dining

Campus cafes are decent but a bit pricy. There is a nicely place subway and McDonald right next to the campus. Very close to run to do during breaks. We even have a healthy option of mason chicken, greek food, the best!

    Academic Rigor

May depends on your teacher but ultimately your self discipline and how much effort you put into studying.

    Tips for prospective students

I have never walked through campus day or night without seeing at least two campus police either drive, walk, or ride by on a bicycle.

Film majors because of their large film program headed by experienced professionals in and out of the classroom and plenty of the equipment needed to put together a legitimate student fill. Astronomy Majors El Camino is one of the only 2 year colleges in the state that has it's very one planetarium that teachers can use daily in their classes to help in the learning process for Astronomy students.

    Bang for the buck

You absolutely get a lot of bang for your buck at El Camino! Compared to a majority of four year colleges where you pay thousands to only be in competition with your peers because your classes are all graded on a curve and have professors who you never get to speak with, El Co provides smaller class sizes with friendly teachers ready for two way conversation in class and offer many office hours for you to come in and ask any questions and get help with your work.

    What to do for fun

    Campus Safety

I had one night class, and all of the students generally would walk together to their cars. If one student was by him or herself, he or she might consider taking the shuttle.

    Food and Dining

The food places on campus and off-campus are limited. There aren't many places in or around campus to eat. At The Manhattan on campus however, I have often enjoyed their green tea latte. I have honestly not eaten a lot of the campus food, so I'm afraid that I cannot comment much on that, except for maybe the crepes. After hearing so much about their crepes on campus, I tried both a savory and a sweet one, both being rather delicious (but I do prefer the sweet ones over the savory). I would recommend at least trying it once! Generally, I found myself eating off-campus at the Wasabi restaurant. I would say that this is definitely a must-try too. The Bimbimbap was what first got me into going there often.

    Dorm Life

    There is no dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

In general, the classes are rather similar to high school classes, but depending on the class and professor, it can prove to be challenging. Many of the science classes, like the Chemistry courses, proved to be a little more rigorous than, say the art or Social Science classes. This is not to say that art and Social Science classes do not have their challenges and effort that is required.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the opportunities and programs that are offered here. Get to know your professors, especially if you need letters of recommendations for schools or scholarships. Get involved in campus activities to lighten and enrich your experience. One could say this for just about any college, but it does hold true even for a community college.

This may leave a little to be desired, but most everything bad happens at night when most students aren't here.

    Clubs and Activities

GSA, various religious clubs, women's groups, dance groups, all kinds of sports, pretty much everything one can think of.

Great for these types of students

Check the bang for your buck section

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a beautiful park with a lake next door.

    Bang for the buck

It's worth it for those who either want to transfer to a 4-year or those who just want their AA or AS; it's even pretty good for those unsure of what to do.

    What to do for fun

Well they do have various clubs on campus that one can attend. Plus there's the activities center. Also, the 210 bus can get you to the local mall in a matter of minutes.

    Food and Dining

The food is VEEEEEEERRRRY good here, especially the chicken.

    Dorm Life

    There aren't any dorms here

    Academic Rigor

The teachers here are no joke; with the exception of a couple of them (and I mean they aren't that good at what they do).

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that when you go to the counseling office, you know everything that you want to talk to them about.

    In three sentences

Despite certain teachers being here who can make a student feel otherwise, El Camino is a very good school for the most part. The counselors are actually very helpful when you get to them; and on a side note, the food they serve is awesome.

Well they recorded a scene of the past Batman movie in the parking lot of this college.

    Bang for the buck

The counselors here are friendly and very helpful, the people are really nice as well.

    What to do for fun

Well they work with other colleges to make events.

    Food and Dining

They have a variety places you can eat at located near the college but they also contain snack shops inside the campus.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms, its a community college.

    Academic Rigor

They have some of the best programs that Ive ever heard of to help you transfer out and head to a four year university of your choice.

    Tips for prospective students

The only tip i can give for this college its to check it out yourself because you'll never really know what its about if you don't.

    In three sentences

El Camino might be a community college but what they offer there seems like a lot, like the relationship they have with universities to help you transfer out and head where you want to attend after. People talk bad about it but once you get to see what it offers, it changes your whole perspective. This community college contains a telescope worth 2,000,000 used for astronomy, with that it proves itself because only two other universities in California have one as well.

Great for these types of students

Great for the type of student that doesn't like to do homework but still gets A's. Most professors don't give homework and won't care if you show up as long as you get A's on the exams.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    None exist.

    Bang for the buck

I would say it's not a good bang for your buck as most students end up failing or dropping but if you're a good student, it can be as you can get to any UC or CSU from it.

    What to do for fun

Find a club or group to join and make friends.

    Food and Dining

Decent enough food places on campus and nearby but nothing to wow you.

    Dorm Life

    Essentially nonexistent at El Camino.

    Academic Rigor

El Camino College is not hard at all even though I took 5 honors classes. My junior year of high school was significantly harder. Just read, show up, and do your work!

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip is don't get stuck at El Camino. Plenty of students get stuck and never leave. Don't be one of them. Set goals and responsible. No one will hold your hand so you have to be a strong individual. If you didn't get a class, go sit in until the professor adds you. It's all about who wants it more when it comes to classes even though most students drop.

    In three sentences

El Camino College is an interesting place as there is a wide range of racial and ethnic diversity but lacks all the major traits you want in a college including community, extracurricular activities, small classes, and such. It's hard to get classes if do not have priority registration and places the burden of responsibility on students. El Camino College has a support system to help you excel but it's up to the student to find it.

The food options on campus are small. The quality of the food is not much to brag about. They are just food marked up to a ridiculous amount for the convince of being on campus.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

El Camino is not a safe-feeling environment-- especially in the evenings and nights. Gun shots are heard on occasion. However, there are many campus police paroling the area.

Great for these types of students

-Students who are interested in earning credits without learning or studying -Students who cannot afford a different community college -Students who are looking to save money before transferring to a 4-year college

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is affordable, but classes are cramped. In some classes, students don't even have a desk to sit by.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs, dances, activities, and fairs that are held on campus for students to participate in.

    Food and Dining

A lot of options for food and dining are available both on campus and within walking distance. However, all restaurants and eateries seem to be very busy at all times.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are uninspiring and bland. Students who did moderately well in high school will not feel challenged at all. Those who worked very hard to pass classes in High School will most likely earn a 4.0 with little to no effort.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to receive an AA in two years or under, consider going elsewhere. It is very difficult to get into the classes that are required to do this. If you have a decent high school GPA, consider applying for the Honors Transfer Program in order to receive priority scheduling.

    In three sentences

El Camino is an okay place for students who want to pursue an AA or want to transfer to a 4-year college. However, classes are impacted, so it will probably take more than 2 years to receive a degree or to earn enough credits to transfer. If you are looking for a great school with a safe campus, El Camino is not for you.

Although our campus is on a main street and there are a lot of students, sadly there have been incidents. Last year a girl got a rape and the year before that another one. We are located close to a park that is the home to several homeless so beware. Don't take night classes and if you do, park in the new parking structure and walk with a friend!!

    Greek Life

We don't have a greek life at all, so sorry!

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs in our campus are great, but sadly not many care for it. I was in the salsa club for a while and made a lot of friends in just the first two days. I really recommend that club if anyone wants to learn salsa and have fun meeting new people.

Great for these types of students

This school is perfect for people who don't have much money to pay for college, anyone who wants to return to school, wants a second chance, has no idea what to do for the future, or just wants to learn for fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't seen any unusual locations on campus, however the Batman: Dark Knight Rises movie underground parking lot scene was parked in the parking lot, so that was cool!

    Bang for the buck

This is a community college so of course it's going to be much cheaper than your average four year university, so the price for your education is a bargain. I've registred for my last semester and in the total of 2 years I've only spent 3,000, that to me is cheap compared to my friends who are in debt already with 10,000.

    What to do for fun

For fun I find a friend and have some lunch with them.

    Food and Dining

The food is okay on campus, but it's too expensive. I would recommend, it's much better off campus.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life, so the best way to socialize is by making friends in class, because once your outside, it's hard to find someone to socialize with.

    Academic Rigor

For me El Camino College wasn't rigorous, because I took honors and AP courses in high school, but for other students that didn't work as hard in high school, college isn't going to be any better.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip for future students would be, to arrive to this school with a strong mind that your goal is to transfer, so look into programs that will give you priority registration like FYE or MESA. I don't recommend to get a full-time job, because that will only distract you from your goal, which is to get a degree. In addition coming to El Camino already knowing your major is the best way to insure you will transfer in two years.

    In three sentences

El Camino College is a great stepping stone towards transferring onto other universities. The professors truly care about your education and they prepare you for the working world. In addition El Camino's counselors are great in setting up a plan for you to transfer as soon as possible.

ECC isn't without its incidences; however, I must say that ECC does what it can to make all feel safe, especially women walking to their car alone. There is a Valet program that is available. You call and they show up within 5 minutes to drive you to your car, anywhere on campus!

    Greek Life

I'm not aware of a Greek Life. In the nursing program, there is a group; so I would assume there are others on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many, many activities to be involved in. There is a very active ASB (Associated Student Body) on campus.

Great for these types of students

I am an adult learner, returning to school for a second career. I have always felt so welcomed by the teachers and the students. I feel like I fit right in!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    I'm not aware of any.

    Bang for the buck

This is the only place one should go to to knock out their prerequisites.

    What to do for fun

There are many organizations to join to be part of the campus feel. ECC also has successful sports teams that one can try to be a part of or can come enjoy and cheer on!

    Food and Dining

This is a community college; so there is no official dining area. There are many locations for hot food choices, to eat inside and/or outside, and many small spots for snacks.

    Academic Rigor

The classes in Math and Science have been incredibly challenging but attainable with good study habits and hard work. Study groups are encouraged and a part of any college life.

    Tips for prospective students

First thing, go online and register for ECC and get a Student ID#. Then go to campus and take your English/Math placement. After that, you are good to go. Go online as soon as class schedule is available and look at many different classes and schedules so that you're ready for plan A, plan B, and even plan C when it's your turn to register for classes. It is competitibe.

    In three sentences

The teachers will rival any State or UC professor. The curriculum is challenging and satisfying. This is the place to complete your 2-yr education or complete your prerequisites before moving on to your 4-yr, or more, education.

Study everyday until you understand everything for quizzes or exams. Be prepared when you come to class. Ask lots of questions to your professors because they will happy to answer for you and help you until you understand.

Each eatery has a full staff including a cook with menu categories that range from American, Thai, Chinese, and Fast Foods. All shops carry various mini-bites like candy bars and trail-mix.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-campus dorm but the campus is located in Southern california just 15 minutes away from popular destinations such as Santa Monica, Hollywood, and LAX.

    Academic Rigor

El Camino is staffed with excellent instuctors who dedicate themselves to giving detailed instuction. The campus offers many supplementary options for students to engage if they have trouble understanding the material in class. SI is additional instruction available to students which is held by tutors that took the same class the students are in. There is are several tutoring centers for each pillar of education from math and science to english and the arts. Students that look for these resources are sure to gain that edge that others who don't will regret.

    Campus Safety

The most common crime is bike theft, but it's important to be aware of your surroundings at night because there have been known to be attacks before on campus. However, there's a campus shuttle you can call using one of the campus police phones, and after dark, they'll escort you to your car if you call them.

    Greek Life

    nonexistent.

    Clubs and Activities

A lot of the larger clubs on campus revolve around community service or at least make it part of the requirements of maintaining membership. Some clubs really have no purpose for their existence other than bolstering the university applications of its officers. Other clubs are politically oriented (not sure whether Occupy El Camino has actual club status yet) and some are just for fun, like the Music Exchange club.

Great for these types of students

El Camino is an especially good school for students who intend to transfer to a four-year university. They have about a million programs, seminars, clubs, etc. dedicated to making sure that students who want to transfer will be able to do so. It's also good for people just looking to pick up a few credits for a job or who want to learn something new just for fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't really any specific traditions or locations on campus that I know of.

    Bang for the buck

This is definitely where you want to go to save as much money as possible. Even though cost-per-unit has risen a lot in the last decade, it's still much, much cheaper than CSUs or UCs, and I would say the education is comparable, at least for general education classes.

    What to do for fun

Hang out with friends or grab something to eat. There isn't much to do for fun besides join a club or catch a nap in the library. Most people just study between classes because there's not a lot to do.

    Food and Dining

The food selection is OK. On campus, you can only use cash, but there's a Subway, McDonald's, donut place, Domino's and a bunch of other places right across the street if you want more selection or if you only have debit/credit.

    Dorm Life

    Nonexistent.

    Academic Rigor

The honors classes definitely live up to their name. Otherwise, the rigor of the class depends on your professor. Some watch movies all semester (American pop culture) and some require constant study and memorization. Overall, most of the classes are reasonably challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Get into the Honors Transfer Program if at all possible (you need a certain GPA and have to write an essay to get in, but once you're in you get priority registration and a bunch of other benefits.) Also, join a club or two or get involved in some way, especially if you plan to transfer. Not only does it look good on applications, but clubs are a good place to make friends you'll see consistently. Don't use the elevators unless absolutely necessary or you may get stuck. The cafes on campus only take cash. The library is a good place for naps. Show up to school an hour early during the first week, because otherwise you won't be able to find parking. And finally, try to solve your financial aid problems online if possible, because the line outside the office is literally hours long, and they'll probably tell you to go online in the end anyway.

    In three sentences

Budget cuts have made everything from registration to counseling appointments to financial aid difficult, but if you can get a class, the education is generally very good. There is a plethora of information about transferring available and there are always clubs on campus to get involved in. Overall, El Camino is a superior education as far as community colleges go.

    Campus Safety

The safety here provided by security guards at El Camino is second to none. The security guards are highly fair and there is no discretion when it comes to any type of hostility in the air. Also they provide high authority against skateboarding and biking activities on campus. Which helps prevent high speeding theft and liable accidents that are highly plausible that can occur.

    Bang for the buck

A great bang for its buck are the BOBA smoothies located in the Manhattan food market.

    What to do for fun

Primarily what can be done for fun is to join one of the many college clubs that El Camino has provides. I myself have joined the Anthropology and Gay And Straight Alliance club. Both always full of adventures and laughter, and have gained life-long friendships.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining are far from a 5 star luxuries hotel. Simple vending machines. pre-made sandwiches. and chips are basically the main source of nutrient consumption here at El Camino College. The dining is a great environment to eat if there is ever any room. The dining is usually rife with many card game playing students. There are a few fast food restaurants around the campuses proximity such as Mcdonalds, Subway, and a couple of oriental soup restaurants. Not far at all and all within a five minute walk.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers here really care and push for students to take difficult situations such as pregnancy, job related issues, stress in stride.

    Tips for prospective students

Put everything aside and focus on the studies. Fall in love with what you do and study and it will work out fine. Love is a skill, and it can be done with little difficulty. There will be adversity, but like many great people have said, It is not how hard you get hit..it is how hard you get it and keep on going.

    In three sentences

The diversity in which this institution withholds is marvelous. A plethora of students with knowledge both in academics and the street culture flourish. This type of environment will prepare anyone for the real world.

During my time at this school and I have been here a while there have been 4 assaults on women which is devastating. I will say this since then the school beefed up campus police. I use to be on campus and not see a single police the entire semester but, now I don't go a day without seeing at lease two police in a day.

    Greek Life

We have none that I know of.

    Clubs and Activities

We have amazing clubs every thursday and tuesday that meet at a certain time and there is never class scheduled at that time so students can attend meetings.

Great for these types of students

This school is perfect for students who are not 100 percent ready to work as hard as one needs to in the other college systems. Also for those who can't afford a 4 year.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a pow wow that I volunteered at it was spectacular. Also we have awesome little museums on campus which once a year show off the professors work as well as an exhibit for students they are my favorite.

    Bang for the buck

It's not an expensive school especially if you're in my boat with virtually no extra money. The books were what killed me I would have to go to the library and check out the books for two hours at a time because I could not afford to buy them. It forced me to study so I believe it was a good experience.

    What to do for fun

I draw, and go to local shows. I hang out with my family and have a side business my sisters and I work on. Also I help out with my niece.

    Food and Dining

I do not eat on campus because I am a vegan and they offer nothing for vegans. But they do have three or more venues to eat offering a variety of food. The food looks very yummy.

    Dorm Life

    We do not have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It is a tough school from what I hear more so than the other community colleges in the area, but nothing compared to what we will be having to deal with at cal states or universities. I have had a few professors that seem nearly impossible to pass but I worked my bum off and passed the classes. You get what you put in.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say take your math classes first as well as english. Pick professors you know will work with your learning style. And never fall back on work. Become knowledgeable on the Igetc it is and know what school you'd like to transfer to, do not stray from classes you need to transfer.

    In three sentences

No school is perfect, but since I've been on campus, I've never seen, been a victim of, or have known anyone that has been affected with any type of safety issues. I do remember reading in the campus newspaper about someone being detained on campus because they were lingering in the halls and no one knew who he was. It turned out that they were not a student and he was asked to leave campus.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is not the same as being on a 4 year campus but they do have a few such as Alpha Gamma Sigma, etc.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lot's of clubs on campus from the honor society to the hip hop club. There's literally something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Take a dance class instead of a P.E. class. Why? Simply because most people have a phobia about dancing, but the great thing about the classes is that you are based on you alone, not anyone else. Dance is great exercise for cardio, physical endurance and strength building. In Berney's Ballet 1 class you will find a lot of athletes. (His class allows you to dress comfortably without being intimidated, while learning so much that you wouldn't think was possible from you!

Just make sure it is not only the name of the book, but THE EXACT edition that your instructor will be using for your semester.

    What to do for fun

I love to go salsa dancing around the world, travel, and shopping.

    Food and Dining

There are several cafe or dining facities on campus, all actually serve a variety of food and beverages. I would suggest trying the chicken fajita's with the green salsa on the side.

    Dorm Life

Since this a junior college there is no dorm life. The school is situated in a nice community, so there are lots of nice apartments if you would like to live close to campus and walk to school.

    Academic Rigor

Expect some classes to be challenging and others not. It depends on you as an individual and the subjects you prefer as a student. But I encourage you to use www.ratemyprofessors.com. It's usually very accurate regarding student experiences within the class.

    Tips for prospective students

As a prospective student please see a counselor to map out your educational goals, and guide you in the correct transfer articulation agreement. Don't waste unnecessary time taking classes that you don't need or won't transfer to a 4 year college. Ask about IGETC and Tag Certifications and programs for transfer accelerated entrance programs.

    Academic Rigor

For the most part some classes are difficult, but there are others that aren't too bad.

    Tips for prospective students

I feel people should try out the school. Its pretty big for a community college, but once you get use to it, its not too bad. El camino is one of the best schools with friendly students and teachers.

    In three sentences

El Camino is a good school. For the most part teachers do well and assist students the best way they know how. Learning environment for all .

They have school security and campus police available at all times. the school is in a very safe area.

    Clubs and Activities

You can join many kinds of clubs at Elco. They have cultural clubs, political clubs, social clubs, and the list goes on. There are at least five different activities on campus a year.

Great for these types of students

This campus is perfect for friendly, outgoing people who like to learn.

    Bang for the buck

You get more than you put in at El Camino. You will learn a lot and have resources available to you for low fees.

    What to do for fun

El Camino has a lot of clubs and activities you can participate in. There are also many restaurants and movie theaters around the area you can go to. If all else fails, hit the beach! :)

    Food and Dining

There are some good foods in the different cafeterias. The best thing they sell are the crepes. However, the prices are a bit expensive.

    Academic Rigor

The professors definitely challenge you and prepare you to transfer to the four-year system. The material is not 'watered down' just because it is a community college and a lot is expected from you.

    Tips for prospective students

Register as early as possible because it will affect your registration date every semester. There are many classes that fill up fast and you definitely do not want to risk not getting the classes you need.

    In three sentences

El Camino College is not your typical community college experience. The campus has a multitude of resources for students of all majors. The professors are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and will assist you on your path to success.

    Greek Life

There is an Alpha Sigma club, but I believe that is about it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a decent and fairly diverse amount of clubs on campus. I even helped kickstart the Film club when I first got here.

    Go home.

    Food and Dining

On campus food is overpriced and not so great. But across the street there is an entire block of food places to choose from.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms. It's a community college. That would be so weird.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the classes you take. Some are a complete joke and you don't even have to show up. But if you ask around you will find out which professors know what they are talking about and though it might be a heavier workload you will learn something from it.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead and know what classes you need before you register, AND HAVE BACKUPS. Classes are so limited they will be gone within a couple days of registration opening.

    In three sentences

It's a great school if you stay committed to what you are doing. However it can be easy to get discouraged when you see how some of the students carry themselves.

If you think the cost of a 4-year university is expensive and you want to save money on gaining a general 2-year education, then ECC is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Register early! Classes are filling up fast now since the economy went under, especially in the state of California itself. 2. Make sure to meet with a counselor as soon as possible so you can have your education goal and the classes you need for it put in place. 3. Show up for the first day of class otherwise you will be dropped. This school has a strict attendance policy where you can only miss up to three unexcused absences.

    Bang for the buck

I'm paying out of state tuition right now, but the normal $26 per unit is a very good deal compared to other state community colleges. For anyone wanting to gain a higher education, this is a good deal.

Great for these types of students

I think this college is great for any type of student, the one that doen't know what his major will be, oor for the one that want to transfer, or for the one that wants a short career.

    Tips for prospective students

Always speak to counselor, and make a carrer plan before signing up for classes. That way the couselor will tell you if there is a prerequisite, and if there is sometimes you can take a test to meet that prerequisite and save yourself some time and money by doing so. Also if you talk to a counselor you will feel a lot less lost and you will have the peace of mind that you are taking the classes you need in order to achieve your goal.

    Will learn a lot

So far all of the people I've had the pleasure of speacking with have been able to help me, and they seem like the counselor help you out a lot. I say that because when I was attending CSUDH, the counselor would just give you a list of the classes you needed to take and that would be all and at El Camino they walk you step by step, depending on you chosen major.
