Whether you are two miles or thirty miles away, be prepared to commute; for there are no dorms. Show up on time to classes and be prepared to learn. Also, once you become a student, research the student portal area that you have to login to. From there, you will be able to view your account, view your academic records, and register/drop classes (among many more options). Everything is online and at your disposal.

Do well on your ACT, and take as many honors/AP classes as possible. I didn't score very high on my ACT, but made up for it in my honors/AP classes. Taking those classes in high school really helped me advance in my college classes - for example, I don't have to take the basic chemistry class, because I did so well in high school chemistry. I'll be taking general chemistry in the fall.

ECC is a friendly and safe environment so don't think you are going to feel left out. Make sure when scheduling for classes you give yourself some sort of break in between classes so you are not having to run to get to your next class on time. Books are not cheap to rent/buy from the bookstore; so when you can, see about renting from websites like Chegg or eCampus. Get yourself involved in some sort of group or activity at school to develop new friendships. Before signing up for a class, go to to try and find a good teach to have.

Ask questions! Staff members in all of the offices are helpful and if they don't know an answer they will either find out or direct you to someone who knows. My advisor got me in touch of the director of my intended program before I had even applied to make sure I had all of the information I wanted.
