    Food and Dining

The dining hall food is absolutely disgusting. There are times where I questioned if the food I was being fed was alive. Sometimes the dining hall food can be okay, like when there's a tour, but most times it's absolutely awful. There are barely any options for Muslim and Jewish students as well, except for barely edible things, non-meal type foods, or nasty pizza on most days. However, your dining options aren't only limited to the cafeteria. There is a subway in Sowers Hall, and the Lane Center has Chik Fil A, Moes, Grill Nation, Starbucks, a Salad place, tomato 2 go, and you can use your meal swipes there instead of in the cafeteria. Avoid cafe as much as possible. If you live in Edgewood apartments or off campus, you don't have to get a meal plan either, and there is a Food Lion nearby where you can do grocery shopping for decent food. There is also a store called Aldi's somewhere in the area if you have a car, which sells organic groceries for cheap. Really awesome place. The area has lots of good restaurants off campus as well. Some of my favorite ones are the Princess Diner (on maim street), SHiFT (organic restaurant on Broadway Street), Sand Spring, and the French Cafe on Main Street. Gianni's Pizza is also amazing.

    Dorm Life

It really depends on which dorm building you live in. Cumberland and Annapolis Hall are absolutely nasty, run down dorm buildings, but the other freshman dorms are clean, yet still outdated. Frederick, West, and Cambridge Hall are pretty average dorms, those are the dorms you'll live in if you're not a freshman. The dorm situation isn't too bad, and they're actually better than the dorms I saw at College Park. However, they are mediocre compared to UMBC's dorms.

    Bang for the buck

This is definitely a cheap college, and if it's worth it or not depends on what you do while you're here. If you come here and take advantage of your opportunities, graduate as soon as you can, challenge yourself, and act like a responsible, mature college student, then you will definitely get an education just as good as the education people recieve at College Park, UMBC, Penn State, and Virginia Tech, and you will save way more money than they did. Frostburg may not have a name that is as well known as the aforementioned schools do, but that doesn't matter at all for your undergraduate studies. If you come here and do what you're supposed to do, not only would you have saved more money than students from the aforementioned schools, but you will have access to the same graduate school programs and jobs as graduates of those or any college institution will.

Great for these types of students

Party animals, people who want to bs their education, and hard working students who aren't easily distracted. Also for people who are nature lovers.

    In three sentences

I attended Frostburg State University for 2.5 years before transferring to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) this past semester. Frostburg is definitely not the brightest college out there, but it is definitely what you make of it. It is not a bad school, but it is not a good school either. It can be either depending on how you take advantage of the opportunities, time, and responsibilities there. The campus isn't as ethnically diverse as College Park or UMBC is though, but it is more diverse than Towson. It feels like the school is just white and black Americans and nothing else. However, I have met a fair share of African and East Asian students. There's also lots of foreign exchange students from Europe, the Middle East, East Asia, and India every year, too.

    What to do for fun

Contrary to popular belief, there is a actually several things to do for fun around FSU. On campus, the school holds a "Late at Lane" event during the first Saturday of every month. Each time, there is a different theme, and there are games, dances, prizes, food, singers, activities, etc. It goes until 2 am. Sometimes it's lame, but other times it's super lit. Obviously, FSU has a lot of parties if you're into that, but don't expect to entry to most parties after rush week (the first two to three weeks of each semester) is over unless you're in a fraternity or sorority, have tight connections with a leader of one, or are a girl. You also have tons of trails, parks, mountains, lakes, and ski resorts within short driving distance. Some are within walking distance, too. The area that surrounds FSU is one of the most beautiful surrounding areas you'll find in Maryland college campuses and college campuses on the east coast in general. As someone who has attended two univerisities, I can guarantee you that regardless of what school you go to, fun will not come to your lap if you just sit in your dorm all day. You have to go out and make effort yourself, or else you'll be bored at any school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    - There is a high elevated, rocky Mountain near the school called "Dans Rock," and most students spray paint something on the rock before graduating. - If you go to the circle in between the CCIT building and Lane Center on side and the Fine Arts building, the Library, and Dunkle Hall on the other side, step in the middle and say something; your voice echoes.

    Campus Safety

The campus is extremely safe. I used to walk alone at 3 am and never once feared for my safety. There are also several emergency buttons posted all over the campus, and if you ever feel in danger, press it. It sounds a loud alarm throughout campus and goes directly to the police department. It's bound to scare off most predators. However, be cautious when you're waking nearby off campus late at night, especially on the weekends. There are lots of rowdy, drunk college students, and some of them can be violent drunks or do unexpected things.

    Academic Rigor

Very poor academic standards and curriculum at this school, unless you're in the honors program like I was when I went to this school. I didn't realize this until I transferred to UMBC, which is a place where the professors are intellectually challenging and the students are up for the challenge. The only time I ever felt like my work was difficult at FSU was when I was receiving busy, unclear work, and not intellectually challenging work. Some professors are intellectually challenging or bring intellectual discussions to the course, but many clearly have the attitude that they are only there to recieve their paycheck and don't care about your education. The math department at FSU is ESPECIALLY guilty of this. The College Algebra course at this school is basically you coming into a giant computer lab and having an online program called my math lab teach you everything while the professors stand there and do God knows what. The quizzes and exams are all on that program too, so if you fail them, you're forced to do massive homework assignments before you can retake them. The TAs do majority of the helping.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs, but some have awful leadership (or they did when I went there).

    Greek Life

This school is hugeeeee on Greek life. About 65\% of FSU students are part of Greek life. Be careful when joining them though. Some of them are known for sexually assaulting students, have members who have raped people before, and have done other awful things.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring a lot of winter gear. Everything from strong boots to gloves to thick coats to beanies to scarves. The weather in the winter is extremely intense. Never wear your regular shoes on campus in the winter, only wear boots because the terrain and weather will eat up your regular shoes quickly. In the winter, you can walk through buildings to get to other buildings to stay warmer while getting to class. Always use ratemyprofessor when signing up for your classes and register for classes as AS SOON AS YOU ARE ABLE TO. Don't join a fraternity or sorority during your first semester or even first year, it will set your grades off to a bad start in a lot of cases.

I personally like Frostburg, because it's really chill and you don't have many distractions. Many people complain that it's not what they expected and it's not "lit" but college is what you make it!

    Campus Safety

there are campus police but they do not stop the crime from happening the most they do is give you tickets for any moving violation.

    What to do for fun

there are no activities to do on or off the campus

    In three sentences

i would not recommend frostburg to an incoming college freshman because there is nothing around the school campus such as activities or shopping malls. the bathrooms and dorms are not the cleanest. the last thing is they have a low 4 year graduation percentage so most of the students take longer to graduate.

    Campus Safety

Frostburg State University has the blue light system and there are cops patrolling around campus. I have never felt unsafe but I have been warned about going off campus, without a big group of people. Because groups of people walk around at night.

    Greek Life

There are on-campus greek life, but most choose the off-campus ones. And they are technical a gang because they don't have carter, so keep that in mind. This are the on-campsus fraternities: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon Pi Lambda Phi, Phi Mu Delta, Kappa Delta Rho. And the sororities: Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, Alpha Sigma Alpha.

    Clubs and Activities

With over 164 club, and organization. These are some examples; International Relations Club, Politics, Law and Society Club, Accounting Association, Africa Student Association (ASA), Anti Bullying Club (ABC), ASL and Deaf Culture Club (ASLDC), Chess Club.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Lane Center is like the glue to this place, and they hold a Late@Lane which is a popular thing to go to. So many people go there. There is also a circle in the center of Dunkle, the library and the Fine Arts building, and if you stand on it you can hear your voice bounce back to you.

    Bang for the buck

I am a regional student so I was in between the Out-Of-State and In-State prices but it was still cheaper to go here then In-State. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pa.

    What to do for fun

There really isn't anything exciting. There's are really small mall that has a movie theater. The AR's try to make a lot of programs or activities for the students. There are a lot of parties but not everyone goes to them.

    Food and Dining

The cafe food is fine. It's like any cafe, but I do suggest you stay away from the chicken unless it's fried or the wings. Other than that the chicken is normally pink. The salad bar is good and so are the roasted veggies. Most people get the pizza but it gets sold after a while. But the Lane Center has the Chick Fil A, Moe's, and Starbucks which are the most popular on campus. There is also a Subway by Sowers Hall. And on main street there is a awesome Chinese place, and a restaurant called Princess.

    Dorm Life

Depending on what dorm you get depends on if it's nice or not. Diehli has nice bathrooms while Cumberland's are gross. And almost all the dorms has sister dorms; Diehli-Gray, Cumberland-Annapolis. There is also ONE single gender dorm on campus and that is Simpson and it is a ONLY female dorm. First Year Experience dorms were built in the 50's or 60's. And Upperclassmen dorms were built in the 70's. So structure and functions are different. My AR's are also amazing but it could very from dorm to dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are super willing to help, as long as you talk to them ahead of time. Also some teachers do not like when students use, laptops, cell phones or tablets in their class. Beware of that fact. Also all incoming freshman MUST take English 101, and Intro To Higher Education. You will also have to complete AlcoholEdu & Haven, which are online test that you must complete and get at least a 70% on. It takes about 2hrs to complete one of the 4 parts.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Schedule your GEPs first to get them out of the way. 2. If you need to use a computer to print something make sure you go early. They are every popular. 3.Make sure you look at Blackboard to see if your professor posted anything. 4.If you go off campus make sure you stay with a group. 5. Get involved. It will make life so much easier on campus

    In three sentences

In the winter here it gets pretty cold so make sure you bring the proper clothes. The food in the cafe at Frostburg is average, but there is a Subway in Sowers Hall and Chick Fil A, Starbucks and a Moe's in the Lane Center. And the talk that this school is a party school is over-dramatised.

    Campus Safety

I never felt safe at this school. In 2014, we had a shooting threat and the school's response was basically, Well, you don't HAAAVE to go to class if you feel UNSAAAFE...

    Greek Life

Frostburg has a big Greek scene, but I strongly advise anyone who's interested in it not to join an off-campus one. They have a horrible reputation for violent and abusive hazing and I heard absolutely awful things from violent abuse to sexual harrassment and rape to stranding pledges in the middle of the woods at night in the snow. Most of the on campus ones are lovely, though.

Great for these types of students

People who don't mind living in a small town with NOTHING to do. People who are going to enter the Music department; I had a lot of music friends who loved the music education they were getting. People who live the snow and the cold.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Main Street Books is an absolutely beautiful and wonderful bookstore.

    Bang for the buck

I am very happy with the education I got, but the location made me extremely depressed. I would never return even if tuition was free.

    What to do for fun

Most people drink or get high because there's literally nothing else to do. If you don't have a car you can't get off campus, and even if you do, Frostburg and LaVale are devoid of any entertainment value, aside from the mall and movie theatre.

    Food and Dining

The food is AWFUL! I am a vegetarian, and I could never find anything to eat. Two of my friends good not eat gluten, and I can't imagine what they ate. There is a cafeteria, but it is in no way friendly to those with allergies or dietary needs. I could never find much to eat there. In the Lane Center, there's a sandwich place, a Chik-fil-a, a coffee place, and a pizza place which is absolutely terrible. You need a car to get to any restaurant. If you live in the dorms and have dietary needs you're pretty much screwed on finding anything to eat.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in a dorm; I lived in Edgewood Commons. Edgewood is nice, fairly quiet, has great amenities and is incredibly comfortable. Don't get Cumberland!!!

    Academic Rigor

Very few people who go here appear to take their education seriously; I guess it's known for being a slacker school. As for what teachers expect from you, it varies. I was an Elementary Ed major and my education classes were a complete joke. I learned nothing useful, I only got to enter a classroom twice. But I loved my science classes. I did find MOST of my professors approachable, deeply knowledgable and committed to helping their students. The quality of most professors is extremely good!

    In three sentences

Wonderful professors who don't deserve the complete lack of effort that most students at this school give. I was happy with the quality of most of my education, but that didn't make up for being in a place with absolutely nothing to do and no other students I felt I could relate to. I absolutely hated being at Frostburg every second I was there.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs to join that put on activities that you can attend or help set up. There's also sports teams you can try out for or club sports teams that you can join. This is what helped me pass a lot of free time and have fun.

    Food and Dining

There's a good amount of dining options to choose from here. Like subway, chick fa la, the dining hall, and carry outs of campus.

    Dorm Life

There are many different dorms you can choose from that focus on specific things; like the bwell program for health, echo stars for community service, or the fye, where the dorms just focus on your first year there. In the dorms, Resident Assistants are constantly putting on fun and helpful programs that you have the option of attending. It has helped me get to know my RAs better, learn a lot about certain subjects, and meet other people in my dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are pretty simple freshmen year, however they start to pick up when you actually start to focus on your major. It is important to balance time well, prioritize, and have good study habits. It also helps to utilize the writing center, tutoring center, and the professor's office hours if needed.

    In three sentences

I'm really glad I chose to attend Frostburg. I've met a lot of new people and made a lot of friends. I've become even more open minded and learned a lot from my experiences there.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are very attentive and aware of any potential danger. There are emergency call locations located in many places around campus. I have never felt unsafe walking around campus at any time of day.

    Greek Life

There are MANY opportunities for Greek Life, both on and off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

We are a D-3 school, so our sports aren't the best, but they are fun to participate in and even more fun to attend. My favorite organization that I'm involved in is The Bottom Line: the student run school newspaper!

Great for these types of students

It is a wonderful school for many different kinds of students. There are so many opportunities that it is very easy to find your niche.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Circle in between Dunkle Hall and the CCIT building has amazing acoustics. It is constructed in such a way that if you stand in the center of it and speak, your voice will echo. It's really cool. Dan's Rock isn't ON campus, but it's very close. It is a gorgeous view and a great place to hang out.

    Bang for the buck

This school is EXCELLENT for in-state tuition. I received my associate's degree before I came, and Frostburg cut my tuition IN HALF! I seriously love this school and how cost effective it is in today's market of cash wringing colleges.

    What to do for fun

Greek Life is very present at Frostburg. There are different groups and clubs for all different kinds of people. I personally spent a lot of time at the library. As an English major it is difficult to find time to read for fun, but the library has long hours. Also Netflix. If you're going to come here you're going to want Netflix. Like I said, it's very cold, and there are some days that FSU has cancelled school because it is just too cold to go outside.

    Food and Dining

I am a vegetarian, and food was really difficult for me here. The new food service providers are not the best at health, variety, or consistency. If you're coming to FSU anytime soon, I would recommend either preparing your own food or dining at the Lane Center instead of the cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

Dorm living isn't for everyone. I am the kind of person that really like having her own space and prepping my own meals, so the dorms were not my cup of tea. However, the facilities are nice, the RA's are really good at looking out for you, and renovations are being done in many of the halls to make them even better.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough. This is college, so I'm not sure what you expected. The professors, however, are always willing to help students in and out of class. There are wonderful opportunities to work on your education between a wonderful library, outstanding tutoring center, and multiple 24 hour computer labs.

    Tips for prospective students

It is COLD. Pack warm things. Fall semester will seem like it's terrible with -4 degree wind chill, but Spring semester brings snow and sadness. Bundle up!!! I also recommend keeping a lot of healthy food in your dorm. We just got a new food service provider; they're still working out the kinks and are not the best.

    In three sentences

Frostburg is a quaint little school with outstanding opportunities. This is a school that cares about their students and will do anything to help them including providing tutoring, many job opportunities, and spectacular extra curricular activities. While this school is small, their education standards are mighty.

    Dorm Life

It's real bad, unless you get a good hall. Don't get Annapolis or Cumberland halls they suck.

    Academic Rigor

    Not too bad

    Tips for prospective students

Bring rainboots, snowboots, an umbrella, lots of blankets and a warm coat.

    In three sentences

It's small, and a decent size population. There aren't too many things to do on campus, but you can be busy if you do certain things. The food is pretty good i guess.

    Campus Safety

The campus police here is really good. They always email students about updates on situations and conduct patrols on even on off-campus living space. There are blue light emergency phones posted throughout the campus, incase of a emergency.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for almost anything here and are arranged in a way that allows students to be in a variety of different clubs. Most clubs are open to new members anytime of the year.

    What to do for fun

There is a committee that hosts an on-campus event called Late@Lane that includes food, games, music, and other activities. This is a really fun event and is a non-alcoholic environment. Other things to do for fun are volunteer work(yes that can be fun), joining a club or society, and there is a mall with a movie theater ten minutes away.

    Food and Dining

The dining services here offer a generous amount of options for people with different taste buds. For example, the main dining hall offers food for vegetarians and vegans. There's also a places for people who don't have a meal plan or just don't want to go to the dining hall.

    Dorm Life

The school offers an on-campus apartment complex, which offers single bedrooms and many other facilities like a full kitchen. The dorms are okay but sometimes a whole floor can get in trouble for something one person did. But each hall has a different appeal to it, such as a dorm just for science students, so that is a positive thing.

    Academic Rigor

Though I don't know about the other majors that much, I can say that if you major in science you will be challenged. But the professors are willing to help and then there's always group tutoring and private tutoring offered. Be cautious of some professors or classes. Some teaching styles will leave the student at lost what to do or requires the student to teach themselves.

    Tips for prospective students

Some Tips: -It does get real cold in the winter so prepare for that. -Don't be afraid to see your professor at office hours. Most are always there ready to help. -Check email all the time, it will serve you well. -The food here for the most part is good and have a variety of options. -Don't be afraid to join a club or an organization.

    In three sentences

FSU is a small to medium size college that makes you feel connected. Most professors are easily accessible and there are many ways to get academic support. The community here stresses volunteer service and solidarity between peers.

    Campus Safety

The campus is really safe. There are cops every where! Follow the rules, don't get tickets or citations.

    Greek Life

Plenty of Greek life on and off campus! That's all I have to say! :)

    Bang for the buck

    Very affordable for students!

    What to do for fun

Now they have Late At Lane every 1st Saturday of the month for students to stop students from having off campus parties. Or you can just go to off campus parties! Organizations have lots of activities during the week and if you are 21 and over, there are plenty of bars to go to on Main Street!

    Food and Dining

The only good food is Lane Center food because they have Taco Bell, Chick-Fila (not on Sundays), a salad bar, a sandwich station, and a burger station. The cafe is not all that great as I said earlier and the times of the cafe and lane for dining plans don't accommodate all students in my opinion.

    Dorm Life

All college students complain about on campus living after a year. It's not that great, especially the upperclassman dorms. They really, REALLY need to be renovated. The elevators suck, it's gets EXTREMELY loud on the weekends from students, gets dirty every weekend, can't have a single room unless you are an honors student (or first come first served, so get on that list ASAP, I know from experience) or your roommate left unexpectedly, the cafe food is not that great nor can you take food from the cafe (they think it's stealing, but you paid over $2000 for that food), and you can start to hate your roommate, especially if you didn't pick them. But everyone has their opinions.

    Academic Rigor

The academics is wonderful! The professors are there for you every step of the way. They want to see you succeed. And most will keep in touch with you after you graduate!

    Tips for prospective students

Bring snow boots and heavy coats because it gets cold, windy and LOTS of snow!

    In three sentences

Frostburg State University is a great small college to build a future career. Each program is amazing and the professors are always there for you when needed and smaller classes makes it easier to get one on one help. The down fall is if you are from the city and are not use to small town living, don't come, BUT if you love small towns and beautiful scenery each season then Frostburg is for you!!

    Campus Safety

You will feel very safe at Frostburg State University. It actually has it's very own police station within the campus itself.

    Greek Life

Although I'm not in Greek Life, from what I've witnessed, they treat each other like family. They stick together and they have a bond with each other.

    Clubs and Activities

The only activities I've been to were the Late at Lane and some career expos. There is a wide range of clubs and activates this school has to offer. I just didn't plan to attend them.

Great for these types of students

Students who are interested in science and science-related fields will enjoy Frostburg without a doubt. It offers many science-based degrees and programs one can get into.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As far as traditions, the only tradition I can think of, is the Late at Lane. Most of the Late at Lane are holiday-based, which is really awesome. I apologize if I don't know the other traditions at this school.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Frostburg is one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I love the small classes it has to offer. I've met some really nice people and I loved all of my professors. There are man things to do here and one will enjoy this school without question.

    What to do for fun

There are a few things to do for fun at this University. There's a game room where one can play the latest video games. There's also pool and ping pong that can be played. On some weekends, there's an activity called, Late at Lane. At Late at Lane, there's free food, dancing, and may games and shows. I remember going to two of them and I really enjoyed it a lot. They have pet expos, talent shows, and other fun and amazing things to see and do.

    Food and Dining

I think the food is amazing! There are fast food stations within the school, specifically the Lane Center. The cafeteria food is also amazing. There are many choice of food to choose from and there are many desserts and sweets as well. There's a late night portion, where you can go eat at the cafeteria from 10p.m. to 12.00a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

    Dorm Life

Living in a dorm with roommates is really awesome. I really like my roommates and you will become very close to them once you get to know them. Overall, it's just a really great experience and you will meet many people within your dormitory.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that this was a tough year for being my freshman year and all. I really enjoyed most of my classes but you have to study. I've realized that this school and other schools is based off mostly exams with few projects and all. You have to be on the top of your game if you expect to graduate and all.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip I would suggest: when you have a chance to ask questions, or seek help, don't hesitate to do so. Many of the professors will take time out of their schedule to help you with whatever assignment, project, or exam preparation that you will come upon if help is needed. I've realized that this University and many other Universities is challenging and you have to study.

    In three sentences

I would rate Frostburg State University a 10-out-10 without question. It's a challenging, life-changing, and great experience as I have noticed. You will really like the diversity this school has to offer with students from many different countries.

    What to do for fun

Frostburg may be a small campus, but I can assure you that there is plenty to do. There are plays and musicals that many people on campus attend for entertainment. Joining a sorority or fraternity may also serve a fun purpose for many people. When there is snow on the ground, sledding, snowball fights or even snowboarding serve as the most fun for anyone.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria on campus has many different food options to choose from. You can have food customized for your own taste buds and then pick from other pre-made food choices. But if you are not in the mood for the cafeteria, then going to the Lane Center offers a Chik-Fil-A, Taco Bell, a grill area to get burgers and fries and also a place to get fresh wraps made with only what you like.

    Dorm Life

Each dorm is different, but all of them are very nice. Living in a dorm is is a lot of fun because you have the chance to do things your own way and you are able to meet many new people and create future friendships with them. Living with an RA is not as bad as it may seem, as long as you abide by the rules that are given, then there are no problems.

    Academic Rigor

The professors at this university are there to challenge students academically, but they are willing to help if things become too difficult. Each professor is different with the amount of work that is given, but it is all manageable.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to stay on top of any school work that is given. Keep in touch with professors if anything becomes confusing or overwhelming. One of the main things to remember would be that you are able to have a bright future if you decide to attend this university.

    In three sentences

Frostburg State University is an amazing school. The teachers and staff are there to ensure that you succeed in your future. There are many opportunities to grow and develop within one university.

    Campus Safety

Put up emergency light boxes with buttons to alert campus police of any trouble. For the dorms and the apartments you need to use your student id card in order to get in any buildings. You cannot get in all the dorms, you only have access to the dorm you live in.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each year they have the Appalachian Festival, which is really a community event.

    What to do for fun

The Lane Center puts on events late at night each month to prevent underage drinking and to provide some fun at the college. There are also $5 movie nights at the mallâ??s movie theater during the school week. Bowling is pretty cheap during the week. You can always take a weekend trip up to Deep Creek Lake with friends or you can take a trip to Wisp to go skiing or snowboarding.

    Food and Dining

Since I have been living in the apartments, I usually just buy my own food and cook for myself. But I have tried the cafeteria food and it is okay. It is not the greatest but it is not the worst. It just depends on the day you go. I know Frostburg has plenty of restaurants nearby that will deliver delicious food. Frostburg also has a student center called The Lane Center that has a place to get different foods from. If you are on the upper part of campus you can always stop by the sub shop, Subzero, to get a sub.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the dorm and do not plan on living in the dorm for the rest of my time in Frostburg. I live in the apartments on campus. I know from having two other roommates that the ability to get along is the most important thing. If you get along with your roommate, it makes it pleasant to live in the place because you know there is no tension and you can have fun times hanging out with your roommates. The best thing to do is make a roommate agreement and stick to it. This goes the same with living in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Depending upon the major you chose to study in, you may have much more rigorous homework. For me I am studying Computer Science and the homework at times seemed did seem to be piled on. With having papers, readings, labs, and projects to do I would get stressed out, but if you have good time management skills you could possibly get your homework done before the weekend.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you bring heavy clothing, rain boots, and rain jackets because it will either be very cold and windy or raining. However there are days where it gets warm enough to wear shorts. Just be prepared for crazy weather.

    In three sentences

Frostburg State University is a small quiet school. This school has a country feel that will put you at ease. This place reminds me a lot like the small town where my grandmotherâ??s place is in Pennsylvania.

    Food and Dining

Good selection of fast-food restaurants in Lane Center. Taco-Bell's service was a little slow.

    Dorm Life

Decent but I didn't hear anything exceptional about it. Watch out that you don't get sucked into a 2-year contract unless you're sure you want the dorm for that amount of time.

    Academic Rigor

Has some very good classes with good teachers, and also some not so good teachers. Do some research on the teachers, google them for rate my professors and ask around.

    Tips for prospective students

The engineering department could be better, if possible find another school for engineering or you will probably end up doing the dual-degree program with a physics degree and courses with College Park.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do for fun on campus. There are basketball and football games which can be very intense. There are numerous clubs to join like flag football or inter-mural basketball. There is a game room where there are about 6 xbox 360's, 4 ps3's and there are 2 wii's. The school is always throwing events every week whether it be a party, movie night, game night, or even a concert. There is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

The food at Frostburg is pretty good. There are numerous places you can eat. The cafeteria is almost always open and is a pretty good size with multiple things to choose from. There is also a place on campus in a building called the Lane Center where there is a taco bell, chick fil'a, a pizza place, salad place, sandwich place, and also a place for burgers. Lastly there is a place call subzero which has subs, wraps, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, and french fries.

    Dorm Life

The dorm like is ok. You want to stay away from Annapolis and Cumberland because those are the worse dorms. But they are freshman dorms so you might get stuck with them. The rest of the dorms are not too bad. Simpson and Allen are the most renovated dorms so they are really nice. The rest of the dorms are in quads but they are nicely sized.

    Academic Rigor

Academically Frostburg is a very good school. The classes are exactly what you make it. If you go to class every day, do all of your assignments, and study you will have no problems. There is also a place on campus where you can get free help if you are struggling with a class and they will help assist you.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips that will help with Frostburg is to make use of the library. Trust me you wil get much more studying and work done compared to in your room or anywhere else on campus. Go to all of your classes because attendance points can really help your grade if your a couple points away from a letter grade.

    In three sentences

Frostburg State Univeristy is a very underrated school. The school is a nice size and all your classes are small, which means more attention from your professors. Everyone that goes to the school is very cool, friendly, and helpful including the professors and staff.

    none

    Bang for the buck

Very good tuition amount based on many other Maryland schools. They offer many institutional scholarships which help out slightly when you are into the junior and senior years.

    What to do for fun

Try to be active on campus. Not much to do in town except eat and try to socialize. The campus has been working on this. They now hold events once a month called Late @ Lane so students do not have to go off campus. They do random events sometimes as well.

    Food and Dining

They are improving and expanding options. The food is not bad but it becomes too much of the same thing after a while.

    Dorm Life

I chose not to live in dorms for personal reasons. Some are a lot more outdated then others but they are a very social place to be. Most freshmen get placed in the more outdated dorms unless they are in a special program.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes have a challenge which either can be the teacher having their specific way of doing things or just the curriculum. Basic classes often seem a little harder than the upper level

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get active because it can get boring. Stay on top of work because the free time can make a lot of students forget about their work.

    In three sentences

Frostburg state is a good place to get away if that is the atmosphere you are looking for. It is located in Maryland but for Maryland residents it can be a good enough distance from home. It a small town with very few people except for when class is in session.

Shopping, ski, late at lane (an awesome school sponsored event, like a party and a mini carnival all in one), swimming, see a plays (last semester Avenue Q was preformed in Cumberland), hang out at the mountain city cafe, bowling, $6 movies on mondays, and the list goes on.

    Food and Dining

To some the food at the dining hall is great. To me it's great someday and not worth it others. Though there are some great pizza, sub, wigs, Chinese, and other places on main street. Subzero has and awesome veg sub and there is taco bell, and other on campus restaurants, all of which fits on meal plan.

    Dorm Life

I am not a fan of dorm life but for first time student it's great to live in the traditional dorms. They are a great way to meet new people, and there is always some activity going on.

    Academic Rigor

The teacher are fair, but the work can get overwhelming. However if you really need help the campus has a tutoring center and most teacher will help during there office hours. With many helping hand getting work done become much more easy.

    Tips for prospective students

There is stuff to do in Frostburg besides partying. So explore and see where life takes you.

    Campus Safety

With the campus police that we have here, I always feel safe whenever I walk around campus.

    What to do for fun

visiting some of Frostburg's most historic landmarks and natures most beautiful sights is some of the things you can do around here. My advice is to take a trip just west of Frostburg into Garrett County and find yourself at Deep Creek Lake. One of the most beautiful sites the state of Maryland has to offer.

    Food and Dining

If it is one thing on this campus that can be drastically improved it is the Food on campus. After a while it is boring just getting Chic-Fil-A all the time from Lane Center (the student union). You would hope that you can get food at the main cafeteria that can also taste good as well.

    Dorm Life

No matter where you live on campus, you will have a great time. RA's and RD's plan activities you can attend and whenever you think there is down time. Friends always come along and make ya go somewhere which isn't a bad thing! being stuck in a dorm all day isn't exactly fun either.

    Academic Rigor

While I believe some majors on campus are more intense then others. I believe the Academia on this campus is rather tough. But then again most colleges should have a tough academic rigor to make the students apply themselves everyday in the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware that this place is cold. But also be ready to work hard and have some of the best years of your life. Here at Frostburg you make friendships and relationships that can last a life time.

You should join a fraternity or another group such as a service oriented group. I would also encourage you to try out for a sports team. With Frostburg being such a small town, you end up hanging out with the groups you most closely associate with.

    Food and Dining

I get a little tired of the food from the cafeteria so I eat in the student center frequently. One problem I encounter is the limited times posted for meals. If you are too late or too early, your meal plan will not be accepted. I frequently have to pay for my meals even though I purchased a meal plan. Breakfast is only served early in the mornings and I am a late riser so I miss out.

    Dorm Life

I room with two individuals from larger cities. I am from a rural area. We get along fine, but it is certainly a new experience for me. I am getting to know people from very diverse backgrounds. My dorm is older, but very cool for a home away from home.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes are easy while others are harder. Some professors expect you to know what they want in terms of writing styles etc. If needs be, go speak with professors if such questions or concerns arise. Overall I feel like I have to spend a lot of time studying to maintain a high GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware that Frostburg is a small rural community. I joined a frat to meet new people and experience a brotherhood. It really helps with the adjustment to college life.

    In three sentences

Frostburg is awesome. It is a small school with just enough activities to keep you busy but not overwhelm you. I would recommend this school to anyone wanting to become a teacher.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt threatened or unsafe here. There are police that patrol constantly and there are blue lights that have emergency buttons with cameras on them throughout campus. Frostburg also offers a great service called SafeRide. If you ever feel unsafe when walking back to your dorm or wherever, SafeRide will pick you up and take you where you want to go.

I cannot even name all of the clubs and societies at Frostburg! There are so many options from social to academic to philanthropic. It is so easy to get involved.

Great for these types of students

Frostburg is so diverse that it is great for any kind of student. Basically you will get out of it what you put into it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are so many interesting places around Frostburg for hiking and nature walks and it is beautiful in the fall especially. There is one place that is really cool called Dan's Rock. It's a mountain that people have spray painted and you can add your own spray paint!

    Bang for the buck

I have enjoyed all of the time I have spent at Frostburg thus far and would recommend it to anybody!

    What to do for fun

The lane center is the hub of most activities and they have a really nice game room where it is easy to relax and enjoy yourself. Frostburg has a big concert every year where they bring in a famous singer and they perform. also, they have SpringFest (like a carnival), Main Street Block Party and not to mention the many organizations to get involved with! It is easy to stay entertained in Frostburg.

    Food and Dining

The food is really not that bad! Many students complain but honestly, we could have it a lot worse. There are a few options for when you eat; the main cafeteria, the Lane Center-which has taco bell, chic-fil-a, a salad place, pizza, and deli style sandwiches- and sub zero which is basically like subway but on campus!

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are very nice and easy to live in. They all have lounges and kitchens, which is nice. Frostburg is currently working on renovating the dorms to ensure an even better quality of living on campus/

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major and the courses you are enrolled in, the academic rigor changes. I have had many challenging courses here but I have also had some that are not as difficult!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have a planner! It is so easy to get distracted with everything Frostburg has to offer, so it is important to make sure you balance everything.

    In three sentences

Frostburg is a very intimate school with great professors and awesome small class sizes. It is very easy to get to know your professors and many students. There are so many opportunities I have gained from being at Frostburg and I love my school.

    Dorm Life

Be sure to be completely honest when you are filling out your roommate request. Be clear about what you like and do not like. Remember, roommates aren't always going to be perfect.

    Academic Rigor

My major, Biology, is really rigorous, but I stay on top of things by pretty much living in the library and making sure I read chapters in advance so I have a good perspective on the lectures.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to attend the open house, so you can really get a feel for Frostburg and what it has to offer.

The instructors at Frostburg hold student learning and comprehension with high regard. The departments compose degree programs with courses that prepare students for their future careers. These courses are then composed of coursework that is essential to the comprehension of the material. From an experience perspective, the topics covered in courses at Frostburg are similar to equivalent courses at other schools such as UMD and/or UMBC.

    Tips for prospective students

General Education Requirements don't have to be painful. You should meet with you advisor to decide which courses you will benefit the most from. It's a good idea to choose courses that will aid you in your future career or contribute to you own personal enrichment. You can also visit different departments and request a course syllabus if the Course Catalog doesn't supply a detailed enough of a description of the course. You may even stumble upon a perfect minor or second major to pursue. Since some degree programs don't consist of 120 credits, there is typically room for at least a minor, if not a second major, both of which have the potential to make your resume more attractive to potential employers.

Hang out w/ friends. 10 minutes away, there is a movie theatre, bowling alley, and some shopping available. Bring board games to play in the dorm room.

    Food and Dining

Food is pretty good. As an athlete, the dining hours are not conducive to eating dinner as the dining hall closes at 7:30 and my practices are 6-8 pm or if I have a game, it ends at 9pm. There is late night dining starting at 10pm, but I would rather be in my dorm and settled in with a full stomach by then rather than having to go out to get something to eat.

    Academic Rigor

I am being challenged thus far.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of programs and shows to ago to. Also some group have parties in lane so you just have to look out for signs about what is going on around you.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food does not taste good to me personally. But the good thing is that there is another place called Lane on campus which has taco bell, pizza and sandwich place and other eating place so you don't always have to eat at the cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

I like the dorms except the fact that some RA's take there jobs so seriously and forgetting that we are all young adults at the end of the day . They are starting to fixing up the doors so the bathrooms are looking more modern.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers make the class challenging for students and most teachers especially ones that I had encourages participating in the classroom. Also most classes have three exams and few writing work so you really have to do good on your exams.

    Tips for prospective students

There are a lot of activities and programs so it's important to get involved so you won't be bored. You can go to parties but, just because, there is a party doesn't mean you have to go because fights can breakout and people can be killed.

Campus is very safe. Police drive around campus all the time & frequenly. Also monday through saturday there's safe ride to get you to your destination safely. Expecially at night. FSU also has sites on campus where in an emergency you hit the bottom on the post and automatically sends someone to help. These post are everywhere and usually stay blue, when everything is normal.

    Greek Life

Greek life at FSU is amazing. There's a Greek organization for any person. Also Greeks DO NOT haze and also they host a lot of campus activities. Further with in Greek life you meet a lot of new people and you find a place where you fit in and can call to any of your brothers or sisters for help or someone to talk to. Greek life also gives back to the community and volunteering.

    Clubs and Activities

Wow where do I start! There are so many clubs and organizations on campus to help get you involved and meet new people. A major one on campus is ASA. The african student association. ASA is for all people but usually has a mixture of all cultures. As for actitives on campus there is an game room, computer lab, and also newly added; the late night programming is where students set up activites all over one building for a night. For example there may be a movie in one room, a dance in the main room, a pool table match, a video game match & etc. Further there are clubs for students who have religious beliefs and sometimes psychological disorders, or family problems. Mainly for first generation students.

    Dorm Life

On campus living is amazing. All the halls are well kept & resi life (residents life) pair you with someone that has some simliar qualities like you! RA are on every floor and depending on where your living on campus each side. RA plans floor meeting, and activites for students, so that your able to meet people in your hall and be comfortable with your surrondings.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor for FSU is pretty stern. If your grades drop lower then a 2.0 your put on academic probation. They give you three times to help pull your grades up. After that you may get kicked out, but you shouldn't have to worry about that there are plenty of tutors that can help you get to where you need to be. Also ask your professor there always pretty helpful!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with activities, clubs, and organizations! Also balance your social life with your academic life.

The rooms are not large but are spacious enough that you are not crammed in with your roommate. The rooms also come with a free refrigerator and microwave.

    Academic Rigor

The courses at Frostburg are challenging, but not impossible, and force the student to learn more everyday. The school offers a wide variety of majors and has a great curriculum.

    In three sentences

    What to do for fun

The school is located in a relatively small town, so within walking distance there are attractions on Main Street. Cumberland is the nearest city, which is only a 10-15 minute drive from the campus. There are more things to do in Cumberland, but if you don't have a car there is a free (for students) campus bus service called ACT. You'll have to transfer buses in order to get to Cumberland, but the bus drivers are really kind and helpful. The school tries to have as many events as possible to keep the students entertained, so there is usually an event going on every week. B.o.B is even coming here for a concert in May!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria here really prides themselves on providing a variety of food for its students, and it does it well. However, this is college food so it does not always taste great. There are two other eateries on campus and the food there is pretty good. All in all the food is not that bad.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are kept pretty clean and in order. They've started renovations on campus to bring some of the older buildings into the more modern age.

    Academic Rigor

Although this is a small school, the course loads are of the average college. Freshman year is relatively easy depending on how you set up your schedule, but course work becomes more rigorous as you advance in the school.

    Campus Safety

We have a very safe campus. Our campus police station is very accessible as it is located right on the campus. Dorms are locked at all times and can only be entered if you have a student ID that is registered for that specific dorm building. Also we have a tip line for students to call and voice any concerns they may have, as well as blue lights stationed all across campus with an emergency button in case a student ever felt threatened while out.

    Greek Life

We have a wide range of fraternities and sororities on campus. Social and Business fraternities are available. Greek organizations are usually very involved with the campus. Whether doing community service or hosting an event or putting on a probate.

    Clubs and Activities

My favorite part about Frostburg State is the amount of organizations they have for students to get involved in. Within my first two semesters I had already been involved withh 7 diffferent organizations and I'm still thirsty for more! You can join a dance crew, or a club dealing with your major, or the fraternity/sorority of your choice! Not to mention all the sports we have: basketball, football, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, track, swimming, etc.

Great for these types of students

Honestly great for ANY kind of student. If studying is a concern for you, the school has places all over campus that caters to any type of student studying. We have locations were students can work together or be in complete silence while reviewing their notes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a location on campus where, if you stand in the middle of the circle, anything you say can be heard with an echo. We call this spot the Echo Circle.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other schools you are definitely getting your money's worth by coming to this school. And with the federal/state work study provided here, you can make back some of what you spend. Also, any student can work on or off campus here, regardless of economic background.

    What to do for fun

the school is 15 minutes away from a mall and is near a ski resort! The school itself usually has something fun going on for students. We've had performers like B.o.B. and Maroon 5 at the school in the past. The school even hosts a big party every month that gets a huge turnout from the students who are hoping to win themselves an iPad or flatscreen television or any of the other prizes of that night.

    Food and Dining

Frostburg has 3 dining locations on campus. The cafateria (Chesapeake Hall), a food court (Appalachian Station), and a sub shop (Sub Zero). So, on top of having great food here on campus, we have a wide selection too! Ranging from everyday fast food like Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell to options for the health conscious like our salad shop, Croutons.

    Dorm Life

As a freshman you won't have the biggest dorm rooms, but the size does improve as you become upperclassmen. You are free to decorate and personalize as long as what you do isn't considered a fire hazard. There are plenty of programs and activities hosted in each dorm for the residents. And the room options can range from the traditional 2-person room, to a triple or quadruple. Single rooms are also available! Oh, by the way, did I mention no curfew? There are set quiet hours to be respectful of those who are trying to sleep, though.

    Academic Rigor

The courses can be rigorous but the professors are more than willing to aid a student falling behind. Also there is free tutoring available to all students.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring a range of clothing for all weather conditions.

    In three sentences

    Dorm Life

i have never lived with a room mate, (though i have suite mates) so i can't really give any input on this experience. however, i have lived in a dorm as well as an on-campus apartment, and both were comfortable, as quiet as can be expected, and were staffed with helpful, caring individuals.

    Academic Rigor

Great for these types of students

This school is really great for individuals who like a quiet and small campus and surrounding area. It does get very cold in the winter and early spring, so if you enjoy the snow this is the place to be. The community is great and the campus is just beautiful. Also ask for extra credit! 9 times out of 10 that teacher has extra points to give away!

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips that I have for prospective students would be to one: don't choose a school on its reputation. Focus on academics and school work. Frostburg is known as a party school but it depends on the person. Secondly, ask around about teachers because every teacher is not the same and many have different teaching styles. Lastly, when you do attend the school try to join as many organizations as you can. The school has many activities and groups and the school is really big on diversity.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is actually a very reasonable price for a college. If you do live in Maryland it is very cheap compared to the other Maryland campus. Even though the price is lower, you still get your moneys worth in education. The food cost is a little pricey but there is a lot to choose from and all of it is very tasty.

When i first saw the campus, I fell in love with it. It is a great size and everything on campus is walking distance if you live on campus. The atmosphere is great as well as the teachers and staff. Even though there isn't many stores close by, there are a great amount of restaurants that have excellent food. Many of my classmates from high school attend this school and I enjoy hanging out with them. It makes the school life a little more fun!

    Am learning a lot

Since I am a marketing major, I am a learning many things in class and out of class. I enjoy all of the classes and teachers that I had so far. The curriculum is great, but also challenging and makes you think and keeps your attention. The best classes i had so far have been my accounting and economics class. My advisor is a great help as well. He gave me a great bit of information dealing with my major and possible internships for the future.

    Bang for the buck

The campus is nice, several clubs and organizations are offered to you, the housing is decent whether you choose to live in dorms or in edgewood apts.

    Will enjoy being here

The location is wonderful. The weather is a little bipolar because one minute it's hot the next it's cold, but it's easy to adjust to.

    Will learn a lot

I recently attended preview fsu and I received several information. My adviser and preview guide were so helpful. I am already loving the help I have been receiving before I've even got the chance to begin attending the school.

Great for these types of students

Getting involved is easy, and with it being a small university you get to know most of the people who care about getting involved and helping. Being around those people similar to you is great.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can apply for the honors program, do it. It is well worth the extra work. Early registration, free event tickets, and more come with being honors. Plus the honors students are amazing to know.

    Bang for the buck

This is a cheap school with amazing bonuses to it. I chose right when I decided to go to Frostburg.

    Am enjoying being here

When walking on campus at night you feel more at home than afraid like on some other campuses. The classes are small, the teachers are friendly, and the students are great. If that isn't enough for you the president of the school itself would love to meet you personally. I have met him on several occasions.

    Am learning a lot

Some teachers will make you learn on your own with general guidance and others will hand you the answers that will be on the test, but you are going to learn something. Some classes you will just retain more than others. My math ad physics classes have been great at teaching.

students who like the cold, and students who like small campuses.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you have taken some AP courses so you know what to expect. also, don't come here if you don't like the snow or the cold.

    Bang for the buck

low tuition but the money still gets you an excellent education.

    Am enjoying being here

it may snow a lot here (we say the weather is bipolar), but it is a beautiful campus.

    Am learning a lot

the curriculum is amazing. the classes are complicated, but they challenge you so you can get the best education possible.

Don't get hung up on people you know when you get to school. Try new adventures with new people.

Great for these types of students

This college is big on teaching and wildlife, and I would dare say, mass communications. It isn't a great idea for pre-med or pre-law students.

    Tips for prospective students

Dorms aren't a big hit. Most students move into their own apartment as soon as possible. Also, Greek life (sororities and fraternities) are a major part of the life at Frostburg, but do not let that pressure you into joining one if it's not for you.

    Bang for the buck

This college isn't going to bankrupt you and you still get a Maryland State University education.

    Am enjoying being here

I love this area. I always have. It's a quiet, sleepy little town with a great view. The Wisp is twenty minutes away, so that means easy access to snowboarding in the winter or the lake in the summer. People claim this town is boring, but they just lack imagination.

    Am learning a lot

For this question, it really depends on what teacher you get, just like with every other college. I am a Mass Comm major and some classes you learn more than others. The strictest teachers are the best, end of story. They know what they are talking about. Those classes aren't about listening. You actually learn something.

Great for these types of students

FSU is great for any student who wants a good education with a good price.

    Tips for prospective students

FSU is considered to be a party school, but it just depends on what sort of work ethic you have and what you want to do with your life. Every school is a party school, so don't choose a school based on its reputation but rather the education you can get out of it. There are more than a hundred things you can do just on campus that don't involve parties.

    Bang for the buck

I think the rooms and tuition prices are worth WAY more than we pay. The food is JUST worth the price we pay. The caf isn't the greatest, but there are other options on campus, like a sub shop, that fit in with the meal plans and cost nothing.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Frostburg! You have wildlife, yet there are stores and restaurants right down the road. There is always something going on, and, being an RA, I spend almost all of my time here on campus, and I absolutely love it.

    Am learning a lot

All of my teachers so far have been great! They all know what they're talking about and make sure we understand what they're talking about before moving on to something new. Even my math teacher, who tended to move a little fast, was willing to stay after class and go over anything that I didn't understand.

Great for these types of students

Those who enjoy the cold are definitely at home here as the temperature at FSU is about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas. A great school for those waiting to make their mark as the campus is small enough to do so but large enough so as not to feel cramped. Also good for those who are good at finding things to do and does not require a fast paced life at all times.

    Tips for prospective students

Your academic experience is what you make of it, if you are determined to party and goof around then it matters not what school you go to as the experience will be essentially the same everywhere. In other words, don't worry about the reputation of the school you attend as your intent is more important. If your aim is to get a quality education at a great price then FSU is for you.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition for a full year is under 10,000 if the student lives off campus and a majority of the student body does so. The Cultural Event Series also offers incredibly cheap on campus activities for students as well as Frostburg community.

    Am enjoying being here

Greek life is incredibly popular here, and though the campus is in a rural location there is a expansive variety of extracurriculars offered including rock climbing, sports, theatre, and clubs. Wisp ski and snowboarding resort is a 20 minute drive away, decent shopping is offered in LaVale and Cumberland.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at FSU are incredibly dedicated and expect the same desire and motivation from their students. Attendance is mandatory for most classes and many include the clause that if five classes are missed the student automatically receives a failing grade for that class.
