Try an choose your major before you arrive doesn't t have to be one you stick with but it helps as you are assigned a counsellor associated with that major. I didn't do this and really like my academic advisor and Mrs. Aslip is great she really helps you keep everything on track. But with that in mind you have to understand that smaller schools will have less amenities, but have a smaller class size and be overall more adept in keeping in contact with the universities students.

I really enjoyed Furman's first year residential program known as Engaged Living where you live with students in your first year seminar and have the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.

Be prepared to dedicate time to your school work. It may seem difficult, but it definitely worth it. Also, Furman is a place where there is a niche for everyone, despite its smaller size.
