The campus is pretty much dead on the weekends due to the nature of so many people commuting during the week. People like to relax and catch up on their studies during the weekend, or they like to hangout with friends and go into the city (Washington DC) which is only a 50-minute metro ride away.

There are dozens of academic and social fraternities, one of which I'm participating in, as well as extracurricular sports and athletic programs. In addition to my fraternity I also work out at one of the three large gyms on-campus, with state-of-the-art equipment and swimming pools that are so nice and large that Michael Phelps actually comes for his practices here!

Fairfax City is right outside Mason, so there are a few shops and restaurants nearby. The best feature however is that Washington DC is really close by, and there is a shuttle provided by the school to get to the Metro Station to get to DC.

George Mason has bus shuttles that can transport you to many areas and locations within Fairfax. Plus, D.C. is only 15 minutes away from Virginia. Lots of restaurants, malls, stores, etc. near George Mason University.

For me, I enjoy going to the Aquatic Center to swim in open lanes. The recreation center is also another nice place to go for working out. In terms of hanging out with friends, the Johnson Center is the central building of the campus, made for students to gather and get together.

There are many things to do here at Mason, depending on what you are interested in. I am in a couple of Engineering clubs on campus as well as being involved in Greek life, a sorority, here on campus. I have friends who are on the Mason dance team, Mason D1 sports teams, club sport teams, and many more clubs. There is definitely something for everyone here at Mason no matter what you like, and if there isn't you can start your own club.

Joining clubs, teams, and/or groups are always fun as well as joining Greek life. And, when you want a break from campus, you can always hop on a shuttle and take it to the mall or to a train station and head to DC. The best thing to do is definitely gather a bunch of friends and explore.
