There is always something to do: free movies, greek life, sports. Besides, GMU is close to DC and there is always plenty to do there!

You can hangout with your hallmates or classmates. Then go to the mall or the downtown area, there is great cultural food in the community and a true love for mason.

For fun, you can find game dates on the athletics page at GMU and watch live basketball/soccer games at the patriot center/field. Also depending on your interest, there are many benches on campus where you can sit on to draw.

There's a plethora of games to go to, clubs & frat's to join, shows to see, performances to attend, and many more fun activities that I can't think of right now.

GMU is very close to DC, and public transportation (Metro subway system) is available for students interested in exploring DC's museums. The Mason shuttles and the CUE buses, which is free for students with their ID, can also be used to explore downtown Fairfax. Also, there are organizations that plan on-campus. For example, the Patriot Activities Council, which I'm part of, spend the majority of the school year planning for future events. Events that occur annually are especially the most popular, such as the HIV/AIDS Fashion Show, Hoopla (tailgate before the first basketball of the men's basketball team), and Mason Day (a carnival-like event that occurs toward the end of the spring semester).

There are so many activities to join on campus or close by! There's movie night weekly, club sponsored events and meetings, culture shows and fairs, game nights, sports games, and much more. D.C. is pretty close and people go to see concerts. More often, people go out to eat at the plethora of restaurants close by campus.

Join an Intramural or Club sport. There are dozens of Club sports, including soccer, volleyball, swimming, running, basketball, baseball, and crew. Intramural sports include soccer, futsal, volleyball, and flag football. They have short seasons and are for those who want to play without too much commitment to a Club team. There are three gyms on campus, one of which has two swimming pools. There are plenty of clubs, including Ballroom, Belly-dance, Arab Culture and German Language. There are sports game going on frequently, which are free to students -- you can even get free dinner! A lot of the school's offices have fun events throughout the week. There are films shown every weekend in the campus cinema. D.C. is an excellent place for a night out on the town, and Mason runs a shuttle constantly to the metro station. The town of Fairfax is pretty large, too, with plenty of shopping places.
