What Students Are Saying

Getting an A at Gburg is tough. It really makes you rethink what a personal achievement is. This may be really tough to hear, especially for those students for whom a 4.0 is everything, but there are many instances where you learn more from a class you got a B- in than any of the high school classes you took where you got an A+. It really challenges you... and I feel like that is more of a take-away than anything else. You're definitely getting your money's worth with these classes. Professors also expect a lot. You really need to step it up in order to succeed.
Kaytie from MA
Gettysburg College is very academically rigorous. It is not for the faint of heart. This keeps students on a path towards success and challenges them so that they are not bored in the classroom.
Erin from Slatington, PA
Some of the introductory classes are very easy and boring; especially if you have AP or IB scores. Once you get into the upper levels though, they're very tough and it will require a good bit of effort. All courses are taught by members of their respective field who have their terminal degree - this means most professors will have a PhD in their field.
Celina from Rocky Ridge, MD
Classes are challenging, but professors are always willing to meet with you outside of class if you're having trouble with anything.
Atleast for me, it was quite the adjustment from high school but once you get used to the work and understand the work you need to put into it, its not too bad. My experience has been that MOST of my professors are really there to help you out, holding office hours nights leading up to exams, and really encourage you to go to them if you need help understanding material.

This school is very good academically as well. The classes can be rigorous and difficult at times, but the teachers really make it easier. They always are able to make themselves available to students when help is needed and as long as you put in the effort, it is likely that you will succeed.
Anna from Warminster, PA
The classes are tough because the school is one of the top schools in the country, but it is not so overwhelming that you can't maintain a social life or get involved in the school. I am a physics major and have the most work of my friends, but I still am involved in the school by attending sporting events, working on campus, and playing on the club lacrosse team.
Madison
Of course, the academic rigor depends on which courses you are taking. However, each course is designed to teach something. And although the work may be challenging, if you make the effort, professors are more than willing to help students in any way they can. The work is tough, but it is still absolutely possible to succeed.
Jenn from Warminster, PA
While it is not very nationally recognized, Gettysburg has a rigorous curriculum. Students may say that some majors are considered harder than others; Health Sciences is widely considered to be one of the more demanding majors. But each specialization is strenuous in its own way.
