Don't go here. Anyone considering Governors State for undergrad (though I imagine the graduate level experience can't differ much): Governors State University is the worst school on the planet. Stay as far away as you possibly can from this school even if it's the only one you can afford. They know how inexpensive they are so they know they can treat their students like trash with no repercussions because we have no where else to go. I am seriously considering dropping out at this point and finishing my degree one class at a time somewhere/anywhere else on Earth. It would take forever, but my sanity is worth it. There have been so many nights where I've been up crying and frustrated trying to stay afloat at this ridiculous establishment. They have no respect for you, your education, your time, or your money and in the end all of the above suffer greatly. I've known other students who feel the same way, so this is in no way a unique point of view. I know you're not supposed to openly speak against your school, but I am confident that no one from this school would make any effort towards helping me in the future because they are doing nothing for me now. What makes it so bad is that even though they treat you horribly, none of what they do actually crosses the line into being illegal, so there isn't even any action that can be taken against them but to avoid them. This is not bashing the school because that would require any of this information to not be true. I'm merely describing the experience you can expect if you were to enroll here. I just don't want anyone to ever have to deal with what I've had to deal with for the past year and a half.

Don't be afraid to ask questions and be yourself. This school is very encouraging, I have not met anyone that has shot someone down for a 'stupid question' so don't be afraid to explore and have questions and be open, you will be accepted and you will go a long way, further than if you just try getting around by guessing.
