Founded in 1896, Grand View University is a liberal arts college based in Des Moines, Iowa. It was started by the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in American and maintains its close affiliation to the Lutheran church today. Admissions are rated as “selective” and most students major in business, nursing, or psychology. In the 1900s, students placed a rock in the entrance of the Humphrey Center and now, “The Rock” has become an important landmark that students consistently paint to express “celebration, sorrow, or protest.”
