Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This is a Catholic church so they always encourage people to attend their masses. And I find it weird how there is almost nothing around the campus where you will not need a car.

    What to do for fun

A lot stuff there are the occassional campus activities such as: zoomba class, yoga, and different clubs you can get involved in such as: dance, etc. And they also have some campus activities like: movie nights, study shakes, karaoke nights. There are also club meeting that are open not only to people in the club but people outside as well and some offer free dessert, Apple cider, etc.

    Food and Dining

I do not too, much like the food here. You are required to have a meal plan if u live on campus. Their breakfast is tolerable but their dinner and lunch is not l, so I make sure I but breakfast and lunch/dinner foodwhen I go hone so,i don't have to eat the campus food. I would suggest anyone who wants to come here to do the same. Also it's good to have a car because of you ever want fast food out there are none around the campus it's on the exit by it though.

    Dorm Life

Overall our floor is pretty quiet but the guys downstairs, are sometimes loud and we have to tell them to be quiet, and it's kinda frustrating. I do not really like having a roommate though because it was fine,at first but then after a while she, just wouldn't follow the, rules we made when we first got here. Our room is clean though and so is the showers and bathrooms, but some girls do not flush all of the way and it gets disgusting that way.

    Academic Rigor

They have a good athletic department here. They have basketball, golf, tennis, swimming, and volleyball. Their games are so much fun and very entertaining. In terms of grades always make sure to stay on top of it Cause if not you will have to repeat the class. Also make sure not to skip a lot of class cause if you miss too much the teachers automatically drop you from the class and you will have to take it some other time. And always ask for help of you do not understand something in your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring your own food in case you do not like the school food. As for the dorms establish rules if you have a roommate the minute you move in and make sure they are followed. Keep the room clean considering you will eventually have to move out and you do not want to have clean everything. Do not just keep to yourself, try to make friends and get involved in the different activities on campus. Stay on top of your grades and always check your grades on the school website.

    In three sentences

This is a secure and small private school. You can make friends easily here. There is lots to do in case you get bored.

Unfortunately there aren't any fraternities or sororities at Holy Names

    What to do for fun

There are some things to do while at Holy Names. For one you can go the front desk and check out ping pong and pool items and play. There is a multi-purpose room near the dining hall can be used to watch movies and throw parties and other fun activities. There is also a gym that is open almost all of the time in order for students have fun and be fit.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining at Holy Names can be good at times. The food is not great or it isn't inedible so it fluctuates from time to time the quality of food that you will be receiving. From Monday through Friday there are Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. And on weeks Brunch and Dinner are served. Every meal time period about two hours so students will have ample time to eat if they overslept or if they just finished a class.

    Dorm Life

The Dorm life at Holy Names is quite interesting. While housing is expensive, the dorms are not taken care of as they should. The dorms aren't horrible, but at the same time they aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread. There are four dorm buildings at Holy Names (Founders, Dunn, Feehan, and Durocher) and they are all in close proximity of each other. Comcast offers free cable to all students at the beginning of the school year which helps if you would like to watch television in your room during leisure time.

    Academic Rigor

Holy Names offers a rigorous education that challenges it's students in my different ways. Professors at Holy Names (HNU) have large expectations of their students to perform well in class and that shows in lectures and the workload that is given to students. Holy Names education takes precedence over everything else in the average students life and students are well aware of that.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for prospective students of Holy Names University would be for them to prefer a small and reserved environment. Another useful tip would be for the future HNU student would be ready for a financial toll. Holy Names is an expensive institution to attend so be ready for a little financial stress. But college will give individuals problems regardless of financial status. Holy Names offers a rigorous education so school has to be at the forefront of all focus.

    In three sentences

Holy Names University is a good school located in the hills of Oakland, California. The reason why this is a good school is because the institution has a small student to professor ratio which allows the students to have more of an opportunity to engage with their respective professor. Holy Names has a close knit community that makes campus residents and commuters feel like they are a part of the Holy Names (HNU) family

    Campus Safety

Campus safety does an adequate job in providing service. They do follow the guidelines of the details in their job description. Upon entering the school, there is a front gate that everyone has to pass by. There are various cameras around the school monitoring the parking lot and several parts of the school, but it does not interfere with individual privacy.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs out here on campus, just depends on what the student is really into. With clubs, there is also a variety to choose from as well.

    Bang for the buck

Everything is a lot more expensive then it should be seeing the quality compared to the price that it is being offered at.

    What to do for fun

There are inter-murals, clubs, and other little events that are usually hosted by Resident Advisors and club leaders alike.

    Food and Dining

The food is something to get accustomed to, not one of the greater aspects of the school, but somewhat edible. Be prepared to go off campus at times because the quality of the food is not always on point.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is average here, there are freshman/transfer dorms as well as upper class-men dorms. Thursday night through Saturday night is the most interactive time because that is what is considered the weekend for most students, outside of the ones that have Friday and Saturday classes.

    Academic Rigor

The school does present challenges academically especially the math and science departments. Since it is a private school there are a set of required courses and curriculum that each student has to follow as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Be respectful Stay Ready for vigorous class schedules Be ready for Dorm life

    In three sentences

This school provides a private school experience, it is small and somewhat of a close-knit community. There is a beautiful view and every part of the campus is accessible, the dormitories are quite close to the lecture halls. There are several sports teams and extracurricular activities are provided as well.

    What to do for fun

The dorm rooms have pool tables and ping pong tables. Also students can go swimming or to the gym to get a good workout. There are a couple shopping places close by. There are the San Leandro Outlets which are about 30min away. Bayfair Mall is 20Min away and Walmart is also about 20min away. Usually students just hang out in each others rooms for fun.

    Food and Dining

Buffet style. To me, breakfast is the best meal. There are so many options that you might catch yourself getting more than you can eat. You are only allowed to eat in the Public Market (cafeteria) but some students take their plates to their rooms. The kitchen staff is usually ok with his as long as you bring your plates back.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is crazy. It might be weird at first but eventually you'll get used to it. Usually people leave their doors open to invite others to come hang out. Everyone is pretty nice. Make friends with your neighbors. Get to know them. As for your roommate, you don't necessarily have to be friends but you should get along, after all you are sharing a room. The dorms do have closets for each student, a microwave, refrigerator, sink and drawer space. Its nice to add your own personal touches to the room to make it feel more like home. Bring your own TV, trust me you'll need it.

    Academic Rigor

College courses are very challenging, Don't come to class thinking its going to be just like it was in High School. Be prepared for a challenge and make sure to stay on track. Teachers want to help you so ask questions and don't be afraid.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open to knew people. At Holy Names everyone is different. Try to make new friends, you never know if that new friend could end up being in your life forever. Also, try to get as much of your GE's done as soon as possible. Some classes, such as Biology courses, do fill up quickly. Get as much done as quickly as possible. Talk to your counselors and teachers. Communicate with them so they know how they can help you.

    In three sentences

Holy Names University is very diverse. The faculty and staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall it is a wonderful school with great people and a great view of the Bay.

    Campus Safety

The school is barricaded by a gate with security guards. With a recent gun scare in the past two months the school has increased their security, which has made me feel safer.

    Greek Life

There unfortunately aren't any sororities at Holy Names.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs available to students at HNU, ones that give students the ability to make new friends and run many community events.

    What to do for fun

Students at Holy Names party a lot! But the safest way to have fun during the week is gathering with a group of friends in the Dorm common room and watching a scary movie!

    Food and Dining

The food has it's good and bad days. When there is a holiday or big event the food is great as the chef's prepare exquisite meals. Having a lot of snacks available outside of the cafeteria food comes in handy because there are days where the food is gross!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is amazing! Living away from home is a great experience and is believed to help students prepare to eventually move away from home. Dorm life is very convenient due to the fact that evening resources are easier to access when you live right on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Students should come in with a strong work ethic. The work load is manageable but without determination it can be very overwhelming. There are many tutoring resources available to students when they need help.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should develop relationships with their professors because it helps with getting help when tests and finals come around. I found it key this semester for all of my professors to know my name!

    In three sentences

Holy Names University is a great school! The campus is very community oriented, and it's small size allows for a student to know everyone. I enjoy everything down to the small class sizes.

    Tips for prospective students

Its a nice place. You just have to stay focused and not come in to the school expecting to just party a lot. there are a lot places on campus to get work done.

    In three sentences

Holy Names is small school, but one where learning is not impossible. Most of the teachers here are great and they actually want you to succeed and they will help you all you have to do is ask questions. Its not the best place to party, but its nice and cozy.

Great for these types of students

    Commuters, adult students

    Tips for prospective students

Document Document Document!! Make sure you get everything in writing and have plenty of copies on hand.

    Bang for the buck

Financial aid is a hassle. There are no finanical aid options other than loans for graduate students. The power went out in the dorms during finals week, and had been running off generators for a few months after. Most of the furniture and carpet in the dorms are from over 20 years ago. I have heard this from alumni who visit and have found their initials on replaced furniture.

    Am enjoying being here

Most of the students and faculty are friendly and helpful minus a few of the administrative staff.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot, however don't waste your money on books because half of them don't get used in the classroom.
