Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is safe. Never have I felt unsafe walking at night, its very well lit and I always see campus security monitoring the school ground. However, off campus you do need to be a bit more cautious just as you would be anywhere where there is less people.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs for each major and just ones for fun. There are plenty of volunteer option it all depends on if you make the effort to join.
Great for these types of students This school is great for the outdoors person, someone who isn't looking for too much diversity, and someone who likes to be secluded in a beautiful location.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a folk festival each fall along with the county fair. These both have food, music, art and other fun activities. The campus has concerts and comedians come regularly, along with other trips and activities at a pretty reasonable price to participate in.
Bang for the buck The bars are cheap, the $5 movies on Mondays, most food places are decently priced. Bobs Subs is $7 for a huge sub that most people I know cant eat alone.
What to do for fun There is a decent amount of things to do around IUP. First, why I was attracted to this school is the amount of outdoor activities. There are state parks with hiking and lakes, bike trails, running trails, and local woods to walk through. Pittsburg is also only an hour away which is awesome if you need a break from the outdoors and want that city life for a weekend. If you are 21 the night life isn't bad. There are some fun bars and clubs to hit up on the weekends that a cheap, however they can get pretty crowded and stuffy. Also, if your a movie person the local theater has $5 movies on Mondays with free popcorn which is a pretty sweet deal.
Food and Dining Again, I transferred so I didn't experience the campus food, but most people end up having more money for food than needed from what I've heard.
Dorm Life I was a transfer student so I never lived in the dorms, however from what I've heard they are decent. A lot of the dorms are newer as IUP is reconstructing a lot of the older building into new dorms, so most are bigger and have two bedrooms.
Academic Rigor IUP is a state university where it has to academically accommodating to all types of students. Depending on your major the rigorous of class work can vary. Most general education classes are fairly easy and don't take a lot of time. Once you get into your major classes they can be a bit more challenging and time consuming. Overall the academic rigors is on the lower end of the spectrum.
Tips for prospective students Fist off remember the more questions you ask the better off you are on staying on track and understanding what you need to know. Second talk to people, don't be afraid to start a conversation with your classmates, and professors you'll only learn more and have better advice from those around you. Lastly, be aware of what's going on around campus. There are many opportunities to get ahead as in what will look good on your resume. The more experiences you have the more likely you will have a greater chance at getting into your career right after college.
In three sentences Indiana University is a beautiful school, that sits in a quaint small town surrounding mountains and the great outdoors. This school has a vast array of wonderful majors that range from the Arts, to Sciences, Mathematics, or Health and Safety. IUP is a school that has just the right amount of students not too many that you never see anyone you may have met the fist year or classes that have over 200 students, but the amount that when you walk around campus you'll see a classmate and the size of classes are around 30 to 50 depending on your major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety IUP Police do a great job at patrolling the campus, both during the day and the night. We have a blue light emergency system, and you can always see at least one in sight all over campus. Campus is well lit and definitely safe.
Greek Life Plenty of sororities and fraternities that you can join. Just make sure you do your research so you know what your sorority or fraternity support before you join.
Clubs and Activities There are over 120 clubs and organizations to get involved in on campus. Why not try one... or three... or twelve?
Great for these types of students IUP is great for all types of students. They welcome everyone with open arms and there is an abundance of services on and off campus to benefit your academic success, mental health, and overall well-being.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The best place on campus is the third floor of the Stapleton library. A great place to study or do homework without having to worry about being distracted. Seriously, try it for yourself, you'll love it!
Bang for the buck Coming to IUP will prove to be a great decision. Always make sure that you are getting your money's worth out of it, whether it be by joining clubs or finding your niche in another organization here at IUP.
What to do for fun There is always so much going on here at IUP. Every student receives a daily newsletter called The Beak that details some of the activities going on that day and for the week. There is always something to do if you just look!
Food and Dining Plenty of variety and options for all types of eaters. The new North Dining Hall is huge and has a bunch of options. The food here is pretty good, and most of the time you can find at least one place that is open.
Dorm Life The best part is that the rooms have a bathroom in them. Every room has a fridge, microwave, and kitchen sink. Overall an awesome experience living in the dorms!
Academic Rigor Classes here at IUP are challenging and push you to truly be the best student you can be. There is a class on just about anything you can imagine- from Stagecraft to Gender and Women's Studies. Make sure to take advantage of your opportunities around you.
Tips for prospective students Challenge yourself to find new and interesting avenues to explore, whether it may be a new class or club.
In three sentences IUP has a very welcoming and friendly environment.Lots of diversity and fellowship on and around campus. Very homey feel to it.

Categories Comments In three sentences I applied for this school, and they sent me an invite to come and visit the school and to take a tour, and when someone gets in the mail that they can come and have tour in most countries in means that your a step closer of getting accepted. Next thing I know they haven't accepted me nor sent me an email for not getting in. I put my all to get into this university and now I'm taking a semester off. I did think I was getting accepted. I'm so shocked and angry. I really loved this place and it made me feel like I was home. I hope you guys take a second look at my application and give me a chance.

Categories Comments In three sentences iup is an awful school, that does not care about its students or if they succeed. the students are simply a number that generates revenue for the university. the president of iup is clueless on how to run anything relating to academic and he hires faculty whom are known to do the university wrong by stealing university funds. the professor's offer very little help if you're not constantly riding them to do their jobs. the education is 1/5 and campus life is literally nothing but frat parties and drug use. i would strongly recommend avoiding iup if you want to obtain a education that would be worth your time and money.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Middle class kids looking for an affordable yet worthy college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus 1) Sidewalk Chalk in the Oak Grove was an amazing way to see issue-charged artwork. 2) Jack-o-lantern contest on the steps of Waller Hall in the Oak Grove! 3) Senior Walk bar crawl.
Bang for the buck Great as a BEST BUY experience.
What to do for fun Sports, Clubs, Programs, Chill
Tips for prospective students One regret: not utilizing semester abroad that was available. DO IT WHEN YOU ARE IN COLLEGE!!!
In three sentences IUP was an amazing college experience for the price. I was highly qualified for my first teaching job, and it was in Florida (they sought IUP teachers in that district). The social life was great but so were the classes.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always something going on: sports, musical performances, dances, art shows, etc. In the spring, Chalk the Walk is an awesome experience. If you find yourself constantly bored on campus, it is your own fault.
Food and Dining With tons of places to eat, you are bound to find SOMETHING you like. The biggest problems are long lines and nearly everything costing more than one meal swipe. Be sure you watch the cost, or you'll be going hungry the rest of the week.
Dorm Life My CA in Wallwork was great and there were always things to do as a group. Get to know your neighbors if you want, attend floor activities, and definitely go to the quad bash for your building at the end of the academic year!
Academic Rigor As an honor student in high school, I have yet to find my classes overly difficult. Don't sabotage yourself. Be sure to get your work done and turned in on time and talk to professors if you are having issues. They will usually work with you to fix things.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your advisor(s) early, take a quick walk around campus and learn the layout, and never be afraid to talk to staff members.
In three sentences A campus just big enough to find something to do, but small enough to get to know all of your professors. Generally, staff members are super helpful and a great resource. And the amount of clubs and extracurriculars available can provide everybody with a great college experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Nothing really happens. There are always cops there busting kids for drug and alcohol offenses, so the campus is pretty safe. There were three murders last year extremely close to campus, though.
Greek Life Greeks seem to be popular, but honestly a lot of them are very nice. Except Psi Phi.
Great for these types of students Partiers, jocks, girls and guys who peaked in high school and are on the decline
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't touch the horses.
Bang for the buck For the amount of misery, it's pretty cheap.
What to do for fun Nothing. Literally nothing. People party, but there's not much else in this town.
Food and Dining It's alright. The main dining hall sucks, but there are a few other places that are okay. If you're looking for late-night food, you better like pizza.
Dorm Life You can hear through the walls and literally hear every room surrounding yours.
Academic Rigor All of my classes were extremely easy. I would think that the class' difficulty has to do with your majors, though.
Tips for prospective students If you're unlucky enough to come here, be sure to keep up with your studies. People come here only to flunk out because they're constantly partying.
In three sentences Get ready for parties, poor administration, and food services that make everything pretty darn hard.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is a mall, a bowling alley, a movie theatre, and an ice skating rink. There are events that people host on campus in a specific building to create diversity and closeness among students.
Food and Dining The food is ok. They offer choices such as Chic Fil A and Einstein's in order to create variety on the campus. The cafeteria food could be enhanced.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice here at IUP because they are brand new. They have everything a student needs in order to live in an academic based environment.
Academic Rigor I would say the courses are rigorous and students are able to talk to their professors in order to get the grades they would like regardless of the work they have.
Tips for prospective students For any students who want to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, I would suggest getting to know students and professors that you have classes with in order to have a smoother semester. I would also advise learning your way around campus.
In three sentences I would say that the Indiana University of Pennsylvania is affordable. The campus is large, but I am able to get to know people quickly. The atmosphere is highly enriched with people who want to achieve their dreams.

Categories Comments Food and Dining It is not that the food on campus is bad, just bad for you. There are a lot of food options on campus, yet not many of them are the most nutritious or non-fattening options. This makes it rather difficult for people not to gain the freshman 15.
Dorm Life DISCLOSURE: I am going to talk specifically about Whitmyre Hall, the dormitory for the Cook Honors College students attending IUP. Whitmyre Hall is old and still has the classic dormitory setup: the one where you share a room with another person and a bathroom with your section of the floor. But, that just might be the reason living here is better. In Whitmyre, you're more connected with your neighbors than the more private suites on campus. Whitmyre has a small kitchen with two conventional ovens, sinks, a microwave, and an industrial-sized refrigerator and freezer. Several non-traditional classrooms are situated on the first floor of the dorm, which are available for students to use when not in use. The Great Hall and classroom areas are decorated with replicas of famous paintings, statues, and sculptures. This creates the intellectual, yet homey nature of Whitmyre Hall.
Academic Rigor Indiana University of PA offers a wide range of academic classes for all majors. Professors don't demand a great deal from their students in the way of classwork or homework, but the stuff they do assign is important. I genuinely feel like I am learning something, not just regurgitating information.
Tips for prospective students College can be overwhelming, especially those first couple of months on campus away from home. Don't get discouraged! As you make new friends and start to build a life on campus, time begins to fly and before you know it, you'll be back home with your family on break.
In three sentences Overall, I really enjoy going to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Classes are taught by real professors, who for the most part, enjoy their jobs and care about their students. However, the quaint and charming town of Indiana is small and located, for the most part, in the middle of nowhere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safe campus.
Clubs and Activities Baseball club, lifting club, sports, etc.
Great for these types of students All students, especially students who are looking for a good value for their educational dollar.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus IUP Patties is a St. Patty's Day tradition on campus.
Bang for the buck I am getting a top notch education for a fair price, vs. attending an out of state university and paying triple the costs.
What to do for fun I enjoy working out in the student gym at the Hub. The facilities are expansive and clean. I have also enjoyed attending football games, basketball games, and concerts on campus.
Food and Dining There are so many types of eateries on campus, and they are building even more. I love the Quiznos and Folgers Dining facilities. The food selection is varied.
Dorm Life I love living in the newer residence suites that are part of the dorm offerings. I live in 4-person shared quad, and it feels like living in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. I have become very close with my roommates and will live with them again during my sophomore year.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor is top-notch. I learned a great deal during my freshman year, and I expect to continue to broaden and deepen my knowledge base in the coming years.
Tips for prospective students Come see the campus, do a walking tour with a campus guide, and consider applying over the summer decision day visits offered by the University. That way, you could alleviate the stress of the unknown of the college application process, and enjoy your senior year at high school knowing that you've already been accepted into a great college!
In three sentences I have completed my freshman year at IUP and I absolutely love my college! The campus is very open and easily walkable with lots of trees and quads in the living areas. I love the feel of being on my own while still living in a semi-structured environment.

Clubs and Activities There are a lot of different clubs and activities available for students at IUP.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do for fun on and off of campus. There are a lot of clubs you can join. There are also usually events going on around campus too. There are things close to campus that you can do also.
Food and Dining There are multiple dining areas on campus. They are nice and you have a variety of foods to choose from.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice. I have never had a bad experience living in the dorms. The Community Assistants (CAs) are friendly and try to get students involved. They also have study rooms and lounge areas.
Tips for prospective students One major tip I can give for prospective students would be to get involved. There is so much to do and plenty of opportunities to meet new people and have a good time. Another important tip would be to study and work hard and you should do great.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is important. The university police is located on campus. There are also many Emergency button locations in case a person needs help.
Clubs and Activities IUP has over 100 clubs there is pretty much a club for every interest. Theres also many activities held throughout the day everyday! On friday nights for example, there's bingo night. Sometimes halls will have movie nights. The Hub has fashion show events as well.
Food and Dining Iup offers a variety of options when it comes to food. Theres Fosters which is known as the cafeteria. Fosters by itself has a variety of food from grilled food, to home style food, to vegan food. Then theres Folgers and the Hub which also offer foods such as salads, wraps, pizza, bagels, and much more! If you're in a rush and need to get something quick for lunch the pod offers bagged lunches which are quick and easy to get.
Dorm Life Dorm life is splendid! The rooms are spacious and you have many options as whether to share a room or not. I believe most include a fridge and a sink as a little kitchen area. Usually the people on the same floor are extremely nice and you get the chance to meet them whenever theres a floor meeting. Washers and dryers are made on every floor making it easy for students to wash clothes.
Academic Rigor Such as any other college there is much work and studying to do. Skipping classes can instantly affect how well a person does on the next exam. So every class is important. Classes can range from one hour to three depending on the day and class. Usually all classes are a lecture class so its essential to take notes while the professor is speaking. I suggest reviewing the notes taken everyday because it will help you learn.
Tips for prospective students If criminology is an interest for students I suggest they come and visit Indiana University. It is known for its great criminology department. Make sure to manage your time well there could be many consequences if you don't such as never going to class due to not getting enough sleep. My last tip would be not to stress! Its not the end of the world if you fail a test just study harder for the next one!
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania was my first choice since the first time i visited. Its a great school with many opportunities, activities, and a great criminology department. The professors here are all extremely well educated and know what they teach and how to keep you interested.

Bang for the buck College tuition is affordable and the financial aid office is eager to help anyone with questions!
What to do for fun When I'm not in class or doing homework I like to hang out with friends that I've made on campus!
Food and Dining There are many different types of dining options available at IUP. With the easy-to-use flex and meal plan swipes, it makes dining more enjoyable! There are also many different restaurants off-campus as well if you feel like spending a night out on the town!
Dorm Life The dorms at IUP are beautiful. They have many different styles of dorms to accommodate anyone's needs. The CA's are friendly and always available to assist when needed. The dorms make students feel safe with the type of security used.
Academic Rigor IUP places students in classes that they are able to pass if the student puts forth the work and effort. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it!
Tips for prospective students Students, I know all of the many activities you want to participate in, on and off campus both seem more appealing than school work at times, but get your work done first!
In three sentences IUP is a larger college where a student is not just a number. Academics is very important, but once all your work is done there are many activities to participate in; there is always something going on! Categories Comments Campus Safety Though there are incidents that come up on campus throughout the year, very few however, there are Emergency blue lights all over campus that students have easy access to, if need be. Campus Police is also always a phone call away, and they are always on patrol.
Greek Life If you're interested in joining a fraternity or a sorority, there is one suited just for you, from ones academic based, religion based, and many others!
Clubs and Activities As long as you choose to get involved, there are hundreds of clubs and activities weekly!
Bang for the buck The cost to attend IUP is pretty reasonable compared to other college options. However, you will get the education that you pay for here, while enjoying every minute of being involved in campus life! Though you will end up paying more in a year for room & board compared to tuition in itself, you have several different rooms types in many different residence halls to choose from that suite your preferences, and they're well worth the money.
What to do for fun There are hundreds of activities to get involved in including: sports, intramurals, clubs, organizations, Greek Life, and other activities suited for any student.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to choose from on campus, but after eating the same food day in, and day out, you'll get tired of it quickly! With the meal plans available, you'll have plenty of options for food choices on campus, as well as off-campus within close proximity.
Academic Rigor Academics here at IUP depend on the professors themselves. You'll get some classes where the workload seems to be easy, whereas others may not. The professors here are willing to work with you, as long as you put the time and effort into completing your work in a timely manner. As long as you try your best, and attend class regularly, you'll have no problem completing the necessary requirements for your major and minor!
In three sentences IUP is a college dedicated to the individual needs of all of their students, while providing that sense of community that students seek out when choosing the college that's right for them. They're an overall excellent college, with a plethora of majors to choose from, and hundreds of clubs and activities fit for each and every student. You won't be sorry you chose to be a Crimson Hawk, and you'll feel like you've found your second family here!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone, of course!
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do for fun. Considering it is more than easy to make friends on campus, you could go out to eat off campus. There are a million other places ot eat off campus such as Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonald's, Taco Bell, or you could go to a more traditional restaurant like Wolfie's that is more locally known. Get involved! There are honestly a ton of organizations to join and they have various forms of activities and things to do alone!
Food and Dining We currently have three places to eat, along with one on the way! Fosters Dining Hall is a buffet style place where they serve a wide variety of food; satisfying any craving you could possibly have! Folgers Dining Hall has a more specified selection. It's more of a food court, with Starbucks, Quiznos, Burger Studio, a wrap station, and a pizza place! Lastly, the HUB Rock II is similar to the previous place, however it has Eistein's, which is the main breakfast place on campus, Chick-Fil-A, Pastabilities, and a salad bar!
Dorm Life The dorms are insanely nice. They are very comfortable and completely good to live in. The newest building Stephenson is stunning and each resident hall has their own specifications and perks in each one! There are plenty of room styles to choose form, whether it will be two to four people, shared or private, and maybe having your own living area or not! They all come with their own bathrooms and furnished with a closet, dresser, extra-long twin bed, a desk, as well as a refrigerator and microwave!
Academic Rigor The academics at IUP are above par. All of the professors want nothing more than to see their student excel in what they choose to pursue. With cooperation, you learn that if you put in the effort and time, they are willing to work with you and help you if you need it, no questions asked.
Tips for prospective students Do not take on a load of classes you can't handle. Make freshman year one of your easy years considering you have to deal with the new environment and adjustment of not being home.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania has honestly one of the most beautiful campuses I've seen in all the seasons. IUP is not too big nor too small, and the people are actually friendly. You can definitely feel the sense of community within the campus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a ton of organizations at IUP. During the first week or two, there are organizations promoting themselves all over campus. I suggest you visit the tables, and see if you'd like to join one. The sports teams are great at IUP, and there are other club and inter murals to join too!
Food and Dining There are a lot of options for food and dining. There is one buffet style dining hall and two food court style dining facilities. IUP is in the process of building another dining hall, and renovating others. The dining staff takes feedback from students on different social medias. The food isn't so bad. You get to know what you like from each place, and get a routine of where you go.
Dorm Life The dorms are beautiful. They're only about 4 years old, so they're up to date. The suites with a living room are so nice to have. They allow you to feel like you can get away from your roommate if you need to, or if he/she is sleeping you don't have to keep they up while you do homework, etc.
Academic Rigor The class setting is nice. The average class is about 30 or 40 students, but some classes can get up to 100+ if it is a liberal arts class. The teachers are open to suggestion and will help as much as they can. The work load is a lot different than what high school was, but it's not impossible.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you have documentation of everything that you do through IUP, in case they miss place it.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is a loving campus with a lot of opportunity. It is known as a party school, but doesn't have to be one if you don't want it to. It is a perfect size, and a beautiful place.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue emergency poles around campus, all you have to do is press a button and police will be there right away. Residence halls have multiple locks: the building lock, wing (section) lock, and your suite lock (accessible with your I-Card), and then a physical key lock to your bedroom. Windows do not open more than a few inches. Campus police have a heavy presence on campus, and provide an escort service for travelling across campus during night hours. CAs and residence hall staff seem very protective of all the residents.
Greek Life There are multiple fraternities and sororities as well as Greek honor societies.
Clubs and Activities There are many, most of which are listed on IUP's website. They range from sports teams (Lacrosse, volleyball, football, track & field) to academic clubs (History Club, Programming Club) to interest groups (College Democrats/Republicans)
Great for these types of students Those with an average high school GPA or SAT score, those looking to major in an education or nursing-related field (but these require a higher GPA/SAT score), those who wish to become an Army Officer (ROTC program), those who need an affordable education with as few loans and setbacks as possible.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Oak Grove is the heart of campus, and many activities take place in it from time to time, from bake sales to voter registrations to the reading of the Constitution, it attracts different people and different purposes. It connects nearly every academic building (at least the major ones). That said, religious groups sometimes proselytize there and you may wish to avoid them if they will offend you.
Bang for the buck It's affordable. That said, you may have to take out loans if you do not get sufficient financial aid (this happens especially if you live in on-campus housing). My loans have averaged $1000 per semester. Also, the quality of education will depend on the department/major you are in. The Education department and Nursing programs have notable and excellent programs, while some others are very lacking in terms of instructor quality and rigor.
What to do for fun You should be aware that IUP has somewhat of a reputation for being a party school, although drinking and all alcohol is prohibited on campus. There are better and more fun ways to spend time including watching sports, theatre productions, music performances, activities in your residence hall, extracurricular clubs, and overnight dances like Hawk Rock and Monte Carlo Night (around homecoming). It's not hard to find things to do.
Food and Dining The campus has multiple dining facilities, each with varying food options. The HUB and Folger's have food courts with multiple restaurant vendors including Einstein's, Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks, and others. Foster dining hall is a buffet restaurant with food provided by Aramark, and has a variety of food options - salads, desserts, and a different entree each day. Meal plans can also be used at POD shops (Provisions on Demand) to grab a sandwich, fruit, drink, and cookies on the go. New dining halls are in the process of construction.
Dorm Life The suites (new residence halls) are clean, well maintained, and comfortable. They host special events, provide Academic Success Mentors, and the CAs try to create a comfortable community atmosphere. The suite-style residence halls are more expensive (around $4000/semester). If you're living in a traditional dormitory, be prepared for a lack of air conditioning and a gender-segregated commons bathroom.
Academic Rigor Most classes are not unbearably work intensive, the work load is average. Some professors move very fast through the material and others slower. It really depends on your program and professors, but overall most people should be able to achieve a high GPA with some effort.
Tips for prospective students Do your best on the SAT or ACT, and take AP courses in high school. The nursing and education programs are more selective, so if you are planning on getting into these programs you need to raise the bar, so to speak. Those programs also seem to be the best, quality-wise.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is an accredited, average-sized university with a wide range of degree programs. Tuition is affordable and a great value, although housing and meal plans can become expensive. The overall quality is great, but it is not universally recognized.

Categories Comments What to do for fun there are always parties to go to on the weekends. There are also alot of teams and clubs that you can join.
Food and Dining Fosters is nasty but the hub and folgers are decent. They have a good variety, salads breakfast food chikfila and even pasta
Dorm Life It is super expensive to live on campus, but the dorms are super nice. Every floor has a laundry room and a lounge area. The library is on campus and open until 2 am which is super convenient.
Academic Rigor Its my first year so far it hasnt been that bad as long as you read the material given you should be good. You do have to apply yourself grades wont just be given out.
Tips for prospective students Bring rain boots, and a coat. it rains and gets really cold up here. Also bring snacks to eat when the cafes are closed.
In three sentences Indiana University is a large campus. It is easy to get around once you get use to it. They have multiple tutoring opportunities for those looking for extra help.

Categories Comments Greek Life There are tons of fraternities and sororities on campus, which means that there is probably one that will fit you perfectly! They hold tons of events every month and attend other greek life events. It's a great thing to do if you're looking for friends that party and study together! Freshman can't rush until Spring semester but it's worth the wait!
Clubs and Activities Tons of clubs for everyone and activities every week!
Great for these types of students It's great for people who are shy because it's a big enough campus that not everyone knows each other and theres tons of clubs and events to go to. For the most part the people here a very friendly and the counseling services are great!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming and IUPatties day are huge party days (weekends) so you have two options, go out and have fun or hide in your room and avoid all of the racket.
What to do for fun They have bingo every friday night where you can win all different kinds of prizes! They range from bubbles to a new Wii or a tablet! Theres open mic nights, musicals, plays, free movies in the dorms, a 24 hour dance-a-thon! Sometimes theres not much to do but some weekends you do need a rest from the school work and fun activities to just watch Netflix all day!
Food and Dining The food a dining isn't bad, sometimes the lines are way to long so try and go on off times when not many people are eating, because it gets very crowded everywhere! Theres is a good variety of places to go and eat just watch out because not everything is on a meal plan. Theres always enough places to sit the P.O.D and the pizza place are both open until 12 at night. Theres chick-fil-a and a starbucks, but they are not on meal plan!
Dorm Life In the traditional dorms you're going to make friends and people are always going to have their doors open so you always have some to talk to or eat with! The down side is that you don't get any privacy, theres no air conditioning and even tough they say theres heaters they barely work. The suites are very nice, the rooms are big you get more privacy and you have your own mini kitchen (no stove just a microwave) They're more quiet though and it's a little harder to make friends unless you're really outgoing or you get involved in the dorms activities.
Academic Rigor Once you start college it always seem likes way to much to handle, so make sure you read your syllabus for when assignments are due and try not to procrastinate too much! Teachers are always willing to help so get to know their office hours! Also make friends in you classes so you can study together. Im a Communications Media major and the classes require a lot of work, but it also prepares you for real life. Some classes are easier than others but for the most part you do have to work hard to get a good grade.
Tips for prospective students It's freezing at IUP and it rains a lot so make sure you bring warm clothes and rain boots. The suites on campus are a great alternative to the traditional style dorm especially if you want your own room! Be flexible with your schedule and have back up classes incase the ones you want are closed. Learn which buses go to the parking lot and the ones that just go around campus!
In three sentences Tons of on campus activities and ways to get involved that don't include parties! The teachers know what they're talking about and have great experience and connections. Has tons of majors so theres a big chance that IUP has what you're looking for!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Rarely any incidents happen on campus
Greek Life The frat life is the frat life, looks exciting from a far
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs available for any and all students
Great for these types of students Diverse Creative Determine
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus IUP is very enthusiastic about Halloween, seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshman will all dress up to show off there creativity
What to do for fun For students will need to be creative, the nearest big city is Pittsburgh and that's about an hour away
Food and Dining While you can eat at the tmany dining areas students should learn how to cook.
Dorm Life The traditional dorms are more like a community and suites are more personal and secluded.
Academic Rigor The work isn't normally too hard but its an abundance about off material to recall on test day.
Tips for prospective students Students that look to excel at Indiana Univeristy of PA should remember to manage there time wisely. Too much work effort will cause brain blackouts and too little work effort will result in lower grades.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pa is a low costing college that offers competitive degrees in the work force. It is the largest university in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and is the commonwealth's fifth largest university. IUP is also considered as one of the best business schools according to the Princeton Review.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For the party-goers, there is never no parties to go to. There is a Humane Society that is always looking for volunteers to walk dogs. There are many places that are open to hiring students so working is always an option. There are various little shops in downtown Indiana as well as a mall with a movie theater.
Food and Dining There are a select few places that I like to eat, and that's it. Avoiding Foster's is what is necessary if you don't want to be constantly sick. However, there is a Starbucks and Chic-fil-a on campus!
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, I commute. However, I've heard that the CA's are real sticklers and it feels like you're being babysat 24/7. The new dorms are pretty nice though and surprisingly spacious.
Academic Rigor I'm taking 14 credits this semester and I constantly find myself studying or thinking about what I need to do in order to complete my homework. I can't imagine what taking 18 credits would be like.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you like to walk, the campus is full of hills and is very large. The environment is beautiful though.
In three sentences IUP is most notorious for drinking holidays and the party scene. To individuals who are serious about their work, this is not the ideal environment to be in because literally everyone is drinking on the weekends. Definitely not for the non-partier.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They put a lot of empasis on safety. Everywhere you look there's posts with blue lights that, if you feel that you're unsafe, you simply press a red button and there will be a university cop to help you.
Greek Life Not personally planning on doing Greek related things, but they have an event about two weeks into the semester where you can learn about the various frats and sororities. IUP doesn't place too much empasis on them, which is nice so that you don't have to feel like you don't belong if you aren't a part of one.
What to do for fun Clubs! There's many clubs around campus, whether it be for your major or random interests. There's even a ghost-hunting club! Other than that, partying is a big thing on campus, though the university is actively trying to get the idea that they're a 'party campus' off of them. I personally don't participate in the partying side of things, but if you're into that, you'll find them if you look. There's also a mall nearby, a library (the IUP campus only has a slim selection of fiction, which is disappointing), a movie theatre, and a few other little things.
Food and Dining Foster's, the main dining hall, isn't bad. The majority of the days there's something good...for example, yesterday I had a sort of pot-roast sandwich and it tasted like something you'd get at an actual restaurant, not a college cafeteria. They also have the HUB, which has a bagel shop, a salad place, a grille, and a pasta bar, along with a Chick-fil-A. There's also Folger's, which has Starbucks, Quiznos, a little shop area, and a burger place.
Dorm Life The new suites are great! I'm currently in a shared semi private suite (with no wall down the middle), and even though I have to share the space with someone, we don't get in each other's way too often. My only complaint is that sometimes it feels a bit secluded, and I never really felt a connection with my room floor.
Tips for prospective students Check out the current student base on social media websites...Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, etc. Though they don't represent the entirety of the school, they give a good idea of the day-to-day life. Also, make sure you have a good idea of your financial status about the time of orientation. This ensures you're able to attend the school at all. I say this because when I attended orienation, I heard quite a few students have no idea where the funds were going to come from.
In three sentences The campus itself is very nice, with a lot of activites to participate in and things do within its borders. However, if you're not into partying, you might feel a bit exiled, socially anyway. The actual academic aspect of the school is good, challenging but not too strenuous.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Indiana, PA is a college friendly town. They appreciate the extra business they receive as a result of having students. There are several parks in the area you can walk and run in, there is a cinama, museums, a mall and several shopping plazas. There are numerous restaurants and bars in the area, most of the well known chains are located in Indiana. The fair grounds are located right next to the campus and the fair is held the first week of classes in the fall. The college brings in well known performers all year round and as a student the tickets are discounted. There are several gyms located on campus and every Friday they have student bingo with pretty good prizes.
Food and Dining There are two dining halls. Folgers contains the cafeteria with the buffet that has so many choices that you will always find something. Fosters is where you have more of the restaurant look. There is a burger joint, a pizza place, a place that prepares nothing but wraps, a coffee shop and severa others. The meals plans have several different choices to fit you needs.
Dorm Life Dorm life is wonderful. The dorms at Indiana University of PA are all new within the last few years. You have several configurations to choose from so there is definately something to fit your needs.
Academic Rigor It is going to depend on what major you are in how difficut the academics are going to be. If you love the major you have choosen you will find the classes are easier because you will be learning something that really interests you. The Professors are fair but you have to do what is asked of you as well.
Tips for prospective students Make the most of your college years. Have fun but also take your studies seriously. You will be spending a lot of money for your education so you don't want to spend more time there than you absolutely have to.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a good place to persue higher education. The campus consists of approximately 17,000 students if you include the grad students. The Professors are friendly and helpful and the dorms are newly remodeled.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is paramount. The campus police are readily available, as well as the security phones located all over campus. There are also campus escorts.
Clubs and Activities Too many clubs to name. One must check the calendar of events on a weekly basis.
Great for these types of students Outgoing, energetic, motivated, well rounded.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Many hang out at the HUB or in the Oak Grove on a nice day.
Bang for the buck The tuition is quite reasonable. There really isn't anything that I would consider overpriced. The living quarters are outstanding, mostly all suites.
What to do for fun You can always check the calendar of events or just hang out with new friends. There are also plenty of of campus activities. You can go to the mall to shop, hike, or go bowling.
Food and Dining The food is great. There are many cool selections to choose from. There are multiple choices for dining, which is convenient. There are even some chain food places on campus.
Dorm Life The residential living quarters are like a home away from home. Comfortable, spacious, clean and well maintained by the staff.
Academic Rigor Classes or tough, but they prepare you for the real world. Instructors are always willing to help any students who makes an effort. Class sizes are larger, however, you don't have that overwhelming feeling.
Tips for prospective students Choose roommates wisely. Get involved in community activities/volunteer work. Study hard and have fun.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is culturally diverse. It is in a centralized location. The faculty is great.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue lights everywhere to ensure that you can have police at your side within seconds if you're ever in an emergency.
Greek Life IUP's Greek life is known for wild parties and being crazy, but the academic fraternities is where the spotlight should be. They open up doors for many opportunities. Plus it's a great way to meet people that share common interests that you do and that also share the same priorities that you do.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for every type of person. There are no limits on what you might find.
Great for these types of students It's a good school for students that can balance fun and studies. There's so much to do for entertainment, but it's good to have your priorities straight.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We celebrate our own IUPatties day, instead of St. Patrick's Day. It's a great time for all the Greek life to raise money for their organizations with the selling of shirts.
What to do for fun There is so much going on at IUP all of the time. There are always people outside of the residence halls at the basketball and volleyball courts. The residence halls do different activities to get their communities involved with each other. People sit in the quad and play guitars and other instruments at night. There is endless possibilities for fun at this school.
Food and Dining The dining is average. We have a lot more selections than other schools, from what I've heard.
Dorm Life The dorm life is above average, in my opinion. The suites are absolutely beautiful. It's like having your own apartment, pretty much, but still having the perks of living on campus.
Academic Rigor I feel that the academic rigor is average compared to other schools.
Tips for prospective students Don't go in thinking that it is just a party school. Take your classes seriously, but still allow yourself time for fun too. Studying and grades are important, but having safe fun is a way to relieve yourself of stress. College is about getting an education, but it's also about making memories that will last a lifetime!
In three sentences I love this university. Most classes are smaller, so you get one on one time with the professors. Even when the classes are larger, the professors still give a comfortable teaching environment where students still feel catered to.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police and CA's walk around campus and dorms at night. They also have the blue lights all over campus and if you push on one it sends an alert to the police to come to that light.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs with a lot of different trips and stuff they do. The school has activities and special events every week.
Great for these types of students Students who are looking for a good cheap education but still want to have fun.
Bang for the buck Over all IUP is a great school. I was originally thinking about transferring after my first year but then I decided to stay because I liked it so much.
What to do for fun They have so many activities going on around campus all the time and they have a ton of different clubs. It's not hard to find something to do.
Food and Dining They really do have great food it just gets to be repetitive after a bit.
Dorm Life The dorms are amazing. I stayed in one of the old traditional dorms (McCarthy Hall) and even though it was extremely small I did not mind staying in it. The worst part is no air conditioning. This year I'm staying in a suite and they are awesome.
Academic Rigor I have one of the hardest majors (physics/pre-engineering) and it is extremely labor intensive with the classes but if you know how to manage your time properly it really is not that bad. The hardest part is learning to balance personal time and study time.
Tips for prospective students IUP is known for its partying but make sure you have a good work ethic. There is nothing wrong with having fun just be sure to get your work done in a decent amount of time. Also start studying for midterms and finals weeks ahead because it's an extremely stressful time period. Joining a club is a good idea. They have so many clubs and it's just helpful to get your mind off school for a little. A lot of them offer free trips and fun activities.
In three sentences IUP is an amazing college and I'm very happy to be going here. I'm studying physics/pre-engineering and I absolutely love my classes and professors. The campus is also gorgeous and they always have fun activities to do all year round.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any difficulty with danger on campus. There are police alert buttons placed everywhere throughout the entire campus that alerts campus police immediately. The campus police have wonderful reaction time, as well.
Clubs and Activities Tons of these!
What to do for fun Go to events! Join a club! Talk to the multitudes of people from different cities! Different states! Different countries! Create a club! There's a lot you can do for fun, even just sitting in the oak grove and reading a book. On a nice day, the oak grove contains a lot of people, doing things such as browsing on their computer, rallying for their club, or even live-action-role-playing!
Food and Dining I've only been to Foster's dining hall once or twice, but the food is usually hot and plentiful. There are a lot of people there, as well. There is a vast variety of food, including a dessert area. There are also numerous off-campus places to eat as well, and IUP gives out coupon books for many of the places each semester.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm, nor do I know someone who does.
Academic Rigor You need to study, but don't stress too hard. Some classes are much harder than others. Some teachers are a lot easier than others, as well. Most teachers are more than willing to make meetings to help the student out. As long as you study, and follow the syllabus, you will have no problems succeeding at this school.
Tips for prospective students Take part in the events! Free t-shirts and free food are often involved. Go to the gym- it's free with your iCard. Take advantage of federal work study if you can; school always comes first with these jobs. Use the wifi there! Check ratemyprofessor.com to see what students say about the instructors before you schedule your classes!
In three sentences It is not too difficult of a college to become accustomed to. One of the biggest things you notice is the vast melting pot of ethnicities all over campus. There are many fun clubs and events to participate in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Join an organization! There's nothing better than being apart of a group that promotes fun and exciting activities in honor of IUP. Plus it gives you the chance to meet new people, make friends, and become part of something that you enjoy doing. Events! Almost every other week there's either a basketball game, a concert, a musical, etc going on. Tickets are usually pretty reasonably and plus you get a discount because you're a student. The Oak Grove. A relaxing outdoor spot where you can sit and listen to music, do homework, etc. During the spring, there will be venues going on in the grove where you can listen in on important information and even purchase something
Tips for prospective students Be prepared and ALWAYS go to class if you want to succeed. If you're struggling with something, don't be afraid to ask a professor, a classmate or a friend for help. Get plenty of rest and don't stay out late with friends every night. If you plan on passing all of your classes, then you need to keep your mind focused. The most important thing about college is to keep an open mind. New opportunities are going to come your way almost everyday. It's a new environment and it's a huge step towards the future, just be responsible and have fun!
In three sentences This is such a big campus with many different opportunities to explore, such as meeting new people and finding out what major is right for you. Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt afraid walking around campus late at night. University Police are always on the patrol.
What to do for fun IUP has a broad range of campus activities to get involved in. The KCAC center on campus holds sporting events and concerts. There's also Philadelphia street within walking distance that's filled with restaurants and bars.
Food and Dining There's a ton of places to eat on campus with great tasting, cheap food. The surrounding area also has many restaurants to change it up with.
Dorm Life They've done major renovations to the dormitories. Pretty much every dorm is a suite with its own bathroom. There are still traditional dorms if you're into that feel.
Academic Rigor Challening, but not impossible or ridiculously hard to pass. Teachers will work with you.
Tips for prospective students Join a club, it's a great way to meet people. Also leave your dorm room open. Most likely someone walking by will stop in and say hi!

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus PANCAKES AT MIDNIGHT! When I told my brother, an IUP alumni, that I was attending IUP I was startled with his excited yelling. After he calmed down, he explained that one of the churches close to campus give out free pancakes at midnight during finals week. Just one of those unique little traditions that make IUP so special.
What to do for fun My friends and I got in to the habit of going swimming when we were all free. There is a very nice pool on campus. There are also tennis, basketball and volleyball courts right on campus. People are always up to something. As the seasons change, the students switch up their activities. During the summer there are people laying, picnicking, singing, dancing, playing Frisbee or catch and even hula hooping in the Oak Grove. During the fall I take my pumpkin spice latte to the Oak Grove and relax, surrounded by the beautiful fall setting after a long day of classes. Winter brings along snow ball fights and snow people everywhere. IUP is never boring.
Food and Dining I have never had a problem with the food at IUP. Some people complain about it and say it's gross. Here's the thing, I don't know where they went to high school but the food at IUP is much better than what I was used to. While on summer vacation right now I'm kind of missing my Foster breakfast and my Folger chicken strips.
Dorm Life The dorms at IUP are nice. As long as you put yourself out there and try to talk to your neighbors, your dorm stay will be a blast! Otherwise it'll be like visiting a hospital while you walk down the hall to your room. No one wants that and everyone else is just moving in too, which is a great time to introduce yourself!
Academic Rigor There are a very wide variety of classes you can take at IUP. In every class that I have taken so far the professors are very helpful if you seek guidance. It is really easy to build relationships with other students in the class which is a great advantage. You can compare notes with your class buddy and help each other out, especially if it is a tough class. There are many easy ways to achieve academic success at IUP.
Tips for prospective students Buy rain boots. Seriously, it rains all the time. Become used to checking your email because it really comes in handy. Make sure you meet with your advisor and get to know the professors, it's always nice when they have your back.
In three sentences I have fallen in love with the beautiful campus. There are some amazing students and faculty here. This is an amazing university and if you use it for the right reasons you will learn a lot.

Greek Life Greek Life at IUP is BIG. A lot of the frats and sor. have their own houses.
Clubs and Activities They offer clubs and activities but it's kind of hard to join.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are interested in doing Greek Life and partying.
What to do for fun It's a small town. There are not many things for fun to do. Everyone does their own thing. Most people party to have fun.
Food and Dining Food and Dining is good on campus during the week. On the weekend the food and dining is not very good. There are 3 locations on campus to get food. 1 is the dining hall. 2 is Folgers which has Quiznos, Burger Studio, Wraps Station, Smoothies, and a Home Zone. The 3rd place has a chic-fil-a, Salads, burgers, pizza, and a well known bagel place. On the weekends, most of the places are not open exceot for quiznos, the dining hall, bagel place, and chic-fil-a on saturdays. There are several restaurants in the town that are really good.
Dorm Life The Dorm life at IUP Is pretty nice. It is mostly suites except for one regular dorm building. In the suites each room has its own bathroom which is really nice. The other really nice thing about the suites is that it is coed on each floor. The only downfall is that they are kind of expensive.
Academic Rigor I know personally with my major in Biology on the pre vet track, I need to be very focused on my school work. College is a lot of work but it is not to bad when you do the work, manage your time well, and put in the work. There are plenty of other students on campus that are very into their studies.
Tips for prospective students 1. Freshmen, at Orientation take the placement tests seriously or you could end up stuck taking a 100 level class which can lead to a watse of time and money. Also make sure you bring a scientific calculator with you, they will not give you a calculator 2. Finals and Midterms are no joke, they are a lot harder then high school. 3. Take the time to look over your notes from class everyday. 4. Sit in the front of class. It gives the prof. a good impression on you and you could go from a B to an A no lie. 5. Do extra credit! 6. Parties will be tempting along with the drinking, but know your limits and don;'t fail out. 7. Don't fail out, it will be a waste of money.
In three sentences IUP is in a small town, but in that small town people are able to find things to do. Overall I would rate IUP on a scale from 1-10 a 7. If you are the kind of student who is interested in partying, this is your school... if not then it may not be right for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The boxes around campus ensure your safety!
What to do for fun Take walks around campus. Talk to my room mate. Go out and meet new people.
Food and Dining The food is well prepared. There are lots to choose from. The staff is helpful as well.
Dorm Life My room mate is amazing. We are just a like. We share everything and split every cost.
Academic Rigor I have not experienced this yet. I know it will be harder than high school. Stay organized and never fall behind. Study in chunks.
Tips for prospective students You should talk to everyone and do not form cliques. Leave the past in the past. Everyone is friendly so be open.
In three sentences The staff is friendly. The former students are always helpful and nice. The new and upcoming students like myself are fun and ready to learn as well as get to know a lot of new people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is superb, and that is an understatement. University police are able to be contacted 24/7 anywhere on campus. There are a very wide range of blue emergency buttons you can press if you ever feel in danger walking back to your residence hall from the library or a friend's residence hall, and university police are also highly involved with Indiana Borough police. I truly believe that when I begin to attend IUP in the fall, I will feel safe wherever I am because of the way safety is dealt with at the university.
Clubs and Activities Clubs and activities are abundant on campus. Even if you cannot find a club you would like to join, you can create your very own club. Cool, huh?!
Bang for the buck For about $18,000 ayear (without financial aid), Indiana University of Pennsylvania provides a somewhat less expensive college payment experience for you and your family.
What to do for fun Joining intramural sports is one way to have fun at IUP. Also, there are activities within the community to engage in like bowling with a few new friends. Anyone at IUP will encourage socialization and making new friends as a way of having fun and being a part of the college experience.
Food and Dining An example of a dining hall on campus would be Foster's. Tasty foods, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, include cereal, omelettes, sausage, pancakes, donuts, salad, hot dogs, hamburgers, make-your-own stir fry, pizza, pasta, cakes, and cookies. I have enjoyed the food I have eaten at IUP so far.
Dorm Life I will be living in Ruddock Hall this fall, and I can reassure you that these recently built suite style residence halls are comfortable living areas for you and your roommate. They are spacious and include their own bathroom, microwave, and refrigerator.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at IUP is challenging, yet it is doable when you put your mind to it. The purpose of going to college is to earn a degree and find a firm that wants you to be their employee. The rigor of the courses prepare you for after college well and can easily land you a job after your degree is achieved.
Tips for prospective students Tips for Prospective students would be study hard, manage your time to the best of you ability, never skip class, and make time for extracurricular activities. All of these things are guaranteed to lead to success at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a university which wants each and every single student who attends to achieve their dreams. The campus is beautiful, the people are helpful, and the resources are abundant. IUP is a university that can challenge you and help you to realize that you can accomplish more than you think.

Categories Comments Greek Life I am in a sorority. There are many girls in greek life who are REALLY into greek life, and there are some who are in it but its not everything. I think its a good idea to join for community service, get active on campus, meet TONS of people. But if its not for you, don't worry. Its not the type of school where you have to be in one. My best friends arnt and i still go out and hang out with them constantly.
Clubs and Activities Tons of clubs and organizations on campus. Get involved in more than one. You meet so many people and it fills up your weekends.
Bang for the buck Use all your meal swipes! Also check your flex money. A lot of money is wasted here and you cant get it back. But the school is cheap and provides you tons of career opportunities
Food and Dining You either love it or hate it. I like it, i know what the get each day. There are always good options, you just have to look for them or walk a little further to get it.
Dorm Life I recommend it for the connivence. Especially your first year. Usually less expensive to live off though. And if you want to go out and party, dont come back to the dorms. Cops stand at the doors a lot.
Academic Rigor I am in the honors college and honors program for my major. So, my classes have more work expected, but the teachers are very easy to talk to and lenient. If you show up to class, you will be fine.
Tips for prospective students get involved. Indiana is in the middle of nothing. Join clubs, organizations, get a job. Anything as long as you fill your schedule.
In three sentences so far its been hard to meet people, but the friends i have made created a huge impact on her. Also the professors i have befriended i intend to be in touch with long after college.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Attending school alone is fun for me everything else is just icing on the cake.
Food and Dining Although I have not eaten at the universities, I have heard students speak nothing but satisfaction with the different meal choices.
Dorm Life Dorm life is just like riding your bike, it takes a few errors to get into the groove of how to balance living arrangements.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused Understanding of Importance Freshman year is toughest year for transitioning
In three sentences Indiana University is a great campus for students to network and prosper. With many different majors and campus organizations there is a wide variety of a support system for new and continuing students. Lastly, IUP has some of the best housing options for new students among other universities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety IUP uses the blue light system, so everywhere you go, all you have to do is press a button and campus police will show up. They can do something like walk you home if it's late and dark outside.
Greek Life Even though only a small amount of people participate in traditional Greek life, there are other options that can boost your resume like Phi Eta Sigma, the Freshman National Honor Society.
Clubs and Activities If there isn't a club that interests you, you can make your own! There are a lot of recreational sports clubs and teams. You can even just throw Frisbee's around in a quad.
Great for these types of students Minorities have a lot of clubs and organizations they can join. They can easily meet other people from their culture.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Indiana, Pennsylvania is the hometown of Jimmy Stewart, so a bunch of crosswalks have his voice counting down the amount of time you have left to cross the street.
Bang for the buck You can still go on field trips in college! I get to go to a bunch of different locations for biology lab and do things like catch tadpoles and do water testing.
What to do for fun There is always somewhere you can go. There is a college town type of street a few blocks off of campus with things like bars, tattoo parlors and restaurants.
Food and Dining The dining halls usually have a lot of good options, but the main hall closes down a little bit because of how many people go home over the weekends or eat out.
Dorm Life It is not very traditional here. The rooms are very big and have bathrooms and kitchenettes, but no one gets to know the other people on the floor.
Academic Rigor Some majors are easier than others. I chose Natural Science and many people are struggling, but other majors don't even go to class and still maintain high gpa's.
Tips for prospective students Ratemyprofessor.com has been very useful, but don't get discouraged by the outliers. Sometimes it is hard to make the right decision to study but keep in mind that it always pays off.
In three sentences I loved it here immediately because of how nice everything was and how beautiful the campus is. The classes have all been enjoyable, and I feel like I made the best decision of my life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are police posts around campus where the police will arrive the instant you push the help button. Sometimes at night though, I wish there were more police patrolling.
Clubs and Activities There are a good amount of clubs but finding one that fits you, is harder than you think. Also the amount of members in each club is surprisingly small for a college of 15,000 students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Greek Week, Homecoming weekend, Groundhogs Day, and St. Pattys Day are all huge events on campus!
Bang for the buck College is what you make it.
What to do for fun Get involved in clubs and organizations or the Greek life.
Food and Dining There are a lot of campus options when it comes to eating. Whenever I first came here I weighed 100 pounds, and now I weigh 110 pounds. Even though you may think you are eating healthy, most of the food is process and lays heavy in your stomach.
Dorm Life The dorms are beautiful;however, not many people take the time to get to know their neighbors.
Academic Rigor IUP isn't extremely difficult but a lot of classes do require good amounts of work.
Tips for prospective students Balance your school work and your social life. Try to get involved in a lot of activities.
In three sentences IUP has a lot to offer. There are a lot of courses. If you get to know your professors on a personal lever, you will find a lot of opportunities.

Great for these types of students outgoing, people person, leaders.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Elkin is an interesting location on campus
Bang for the buck Although IUP is cheaper then most colleges I still feel for out of state students its over priced.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun, there are sporting events, clubs, fraternities / sororities, programs, concerts, plays, and many more fun things to do.
Food and Dining To be honest the food is terrible and I wish there were more options.
Dorm Life The residence halls are very safe and everyone for the most part is extremely friendly.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at IUP is great I don't have anything to complain about.
Tips for prospective students A few tips I could give would be stay focused and be true to who you are.
In three sentences IUP is a fantastic institution with many opportunities for young men and women to be successful and further their education. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus police driving and walking around constantly. There are also call boxes about every hundred feet on campus that will directly call campus police when the phones in these boxes are picked up.
Greek Life I just became involved in Greek Life and love every second of it. If you love to be social and also make yourself a better person, get involved in Greek Life! Best decision I have made in college so far!
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of clubs and activities. I haven't even discovered most of them. That's why I rank only 3 stars out of 5.
Great for these types of students Honestly, IUP is great for any types of students. The student body is extremely diverse so everybody will find their place to fit in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I wouldn't say there are unusual places on campus, but there are some really nice places such as the fitness center, student union, and library. The nicest facility is the newer gym complex, the Kovalchick Center (KCAC).
Bang for the buck I love I.U.P. so I believe that it is worth every dollar. Some people complain about room/board prices, but I find that they are worth the money.
What to do for fun While there isn't much to do around campus, if you take the time to get involved with an organization, there is always something to do. And of course, there are always friends to hang out with!
Food and Dining It's college food. It's not your mom's homemade dinners, but it's not terrible. I have found that other places rather than the large dining hall are great for meals.
Dorm Life I love the suite-style residence halls. They are worth the price that you will pay. Having a nice place to relax in between classes or at the end of the day is great!
Academic Rigor Some courses are challenging while others really aren't. I have found that the liberal studies courses are not too difficult. Once you are in classes more related to your major, they are more challenging, but if it's what you really want to do and you try your best, you will be successful.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Always put your studies first and worry about other things later. You are in college to further your education, but do not forget to have fun and enjoy these incredible years of your life!
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is definitely the right school for me! With hundreds of opportunities to get involved as well as a limitless number of resources at your fingertips, I.U.P. will not fall short of any expectations. The campus is beautiful, the staff is superior, and the whole atmosphere just screams College!

Great for these types of students If you are shy and want to meet different people...it is like a melting pot of ethnicity here.
Bang for the buck take summer classes early and you might be able to graduate early
What to do for fun get a bike and explore indiana there are various trails including the hoodlebug. and the nightlife here is pretty absurd with many bars located on Philly street .
Food and Dining the food is pretty good, I prefer to go to Foster's the main dining hall because they offer a large salad bar and it is buffet style.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty cool here there are various suites on campus that host many events throughout the year.
Academic Rigor generally your freshman year will be the easiest but beware towards the last two years can be challenging.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to find an advisor that will help you along the way and don't be afraid to be outgouing and meet all the people you can.
In three sentences IUP is a great school with many different types of people and a wide variety of programs of study. The weather is alright but be prepared for heavy snow and rain at times. It is a wonderfull place to find yourself.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs to join at IUP. The IUP Ski and snowboard club is super fun. There is a club for any activity you are interested in. The athletics is also great to be apart of and always a game to go and watch and cheer on the crimson hawks.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming and IUPatties are two many traditions at campus. Everyone is outside having a good time and it's a great day to just forget about your studies and hang out with your friends. The definition of the college experience.
What to do for fun There arr always events occurring at IUP and there is everything for everyone. The comedians and musics shows are crazy and always leaving you smiling. Just this year we had two chains come and blow the roof off.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to eat on campus and many delicious options. The food is great to take on the go to study for an exam or to just sit and chat with friends.
Dorm Life The Dorm life is amazing! The dorms are fairly need and just a great place to live. Everyone is friendly and looking for friends. It's like a mini hotel room.
Academic Rigor I have enjoyed the classes and the challenges that come with IUP. These classes are challenging enough but not too hard to get lost in. I enjoy going to class and getting the small class environment in a large school.
Tips for prospective students Every one is different and like different things and At IUP I found what I am passionate in. I would suggest taking the time to look at IUP and hopefully you will fall in love with it as I did.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have emergency poles all around campus, you can pretty much see one anywhere you are on campus. They have a button to push in case of emergency that notifies the campus police and the local police.
Greek Life There are a bunch for frats and sororities mostly on the edge of campus. Some are just for partying, some are academic, and some are for sports. Just depends what your into.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for just about anything you want to do, just have to be willing to try and find where they meet.
Bang for the buck You get an education just as good as most other schools in the state at significantly lower cost. If you honestly just care about the name of the school you graduated from, depending on the subject this might not be the school for you. But if you just want to get the information and knowldege and don't care that your not at Pitt or PSU then it will be a good choice. During summer classes many students from those schools come here to take the same classes anyways at the lower cost. I had two people from MIT in some of my summer classes becuase they were from around the area and didn't feel like paying as much for the same class.
What to do for fun Pretty much whatever your into. All students get free gym memberships to the campus gym, also many fitness classes. There are tennis courts on compus, open pool to students as well. There is a local ice rink for hockey and indoor soccer. Once again if you stay on campus your options are limited, but once you get off campus you can find more to do. We don't have a very big mall though. . . . . so for shopping it is better in other towns near by.
Food and Dining Decent variety of food and dinning choices available around. If you aren't willing to go off campus for food your choices are limited though. There are meal plans for a campus dinning hall and flex options to give you money to spend in the other places around campus. If you are willing to get off campus there are many options. Not many options for late night/early morning though.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms becuase I'm an Indiana local, but it mainly depends on the building you end up in. Some of the buildings are older and might have bathrooms for the floor instead of each room. There are many new dorms though just built withing the last 2 years with more on the way. They are pretty nice inside, but only get a mini, fridge and microwave. Rooms are kinda small as well, but it's a dorm after all. Each dorm has rec rooms with pool tables, and big screen tv's for the students. The dorms main entrances close at 8pm and you need your School ID to get in after that. Your ID is only good for your building and your room. If you leave it in your room you will be charged to be let in, unless you can get a hold of your roommate.
Academic Rigor Each program is different, generally if you go to classes and pay attention you will be fine. In computer science you need to have alot of initiative to learn it all on you own though. That is a program that the teachers do expect you to learn most of it outside of class on your own. Other programs though the teachers do alot of hands on examples to show you how to do things.
Tips for prospective students Make friends in your major classes to study with. Don't be shy and stay in your room, go out an meet some people to have some fun with. The weather is kinda hectic here so prepare for it, you can see every type of weather in one day. Bring an umbrella, and warm clothes. Last bit of advice is if you have the chance with federal student aid try to find a job on campus. You usually will get some down time that you can work on your homework while you make a few bucks.
In three sentences Pretty good college for the price you pay. Many accredited programs with teachers that are willing to help students do well it they will put in effort. A pretty good college with alot to do as long as you are willing to go out of your room.

Food and Dining The food here is great, there are so many different options of things to eat, and I never feel like I have to eat the same foods.
Dorm Life The dorm that I live in, is I feel to be one of the best buildings on campus. We are all heavily involved in RHC (Residence Hall Council). We are very active in our living learning community
Academic Rigor Academics is a huge portion of what I am focused on while I'm attending college. It is great that I have a handful of attentive professors who are always wiling to help.
Tips for prospective students IUP is a great university, and I highly recommend you seriously look into all the wonderful opportunities at this college.

Greek Life Greek life is great there are over 26 Fraternity and Sororities currently acknowledged by the school including mine, Phi Delta Theta. There is definitely enough groups to choose between
Clubs and Activities There are tons of Clubs and Activities on IUP's campus just look on iup.edu to check them out
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In the Fall and the Spring usually around 2:30-3:30pm this preacher comes in the Oak Grove to preach and he has gained a reputation as the Oak Grove preacher and you must show your appreciation by saying amen evey time you pass him.
Bang for the buck Truthfully the school is truly amazing!!! and I am not just saying this because I go here I appreciate everything this school has to offer and I think if any prospective students would come visit they would fall in love with the school like I have
What to do for fun There are many things on campus to do. There are various types of Fraternities and Sororities to join, Intramural sports, or renting out the TV lounge with your buddies and having game/movie nights with friends.
Food and Dining I must admit, even though I do not live on campus I still find myself in the cafe everyday enjoying various types of food in the main cafe or even a midnight snack like pizza or subs in Folgers dinning hall.
Dorm Life The dorms are all apartment like suites even though I my self do not live on campus I must admit they are still pretty nice from a recent 12 million dollar renovations on all of the dorms and academic building
Academic Rigor Some people find collage hard but it all goes back to time management. I am a student athlete and with the proper time management between school work and social life and athletic I found time to still manage a 3.1GPA
Tips for prospective students One tip for prospective students is to manage your time wisely. There are numerous amounts of time I have seen students get a C or fail because there was a lack of time management.
In three sentences Out of a 10 I would rate IUP a 10. Out of all the students I have met here and the staff everyone is really friendly and really makes this place feel like home.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck IUP is affordable, and you're getting the same education as though who would pay double or triple what you're paying for schooling.
What to do for fun IUP is known for it's 'night life' among the students, and we certainly know how to party. Partying isn't everything, though: we offer many different intramural and varsity sports for the athletes, as well as clubs and groups for others.
Food and Dining IUP offers many different places to dine with your friends and classmates. Foster is a cafeteria-style dining area with variety of homestyle options, while Folger is a combination of more restaurant style chains, such as Quiznos and Starbucks.
Dorm Life The dorms at IUP are beautiful, but you also pay for the beauty. They offer many different kinds of 'suites' in the newly-built dorm buildings, and there really is something for everyone.
Academic Rigor The expectation at IUP may not be as difficult as Harvard or Princeton, but it's still demanding, and you have to study and go to class to do well.
Tips for prospective students Study and attend class. Attendance is not mandatory for all classes, but it is definitely recommended. If you miss class all the time for partying and drinking, you'll fall behind.
In three sentences IUP is a great school. It's large enough where there is a diverse group of students, but small enough where the average individual won't be overwhelmed. It's also affordable, much more so than most PA colleges.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The emergency lights are everywhere. The campus police are located nice and close. Also, as long as you're not throwing up and falling over, they more than likely won't bother you.
Greek Life Make sure you ask around about reputations of frats and sororities before joining one! Some are rather infamous.
Clubs and Activities There are way too many clubs at IUP to join them all! They range with all different hobbies and likes. But let's say you don't like any of the hundreds of clubs for some reason, it's simple to create your own!
Great for these types of students Anyone can easily find a way to fit in at IUP! Everything is so diverse.
Bang for the buck IUP is definitely more affordable than most other colleges! I get a lot of financial help so that's a plus too.
What to do for fun IUP is known as a big party school, so what there is to do is drink. Poor college students can't afford to go out to eat or to the movies all the time. IUP does offer free bingo and there is a free gym. You won't want to be outside much because it's always so cold there! Join a fraternity or sorority!
Food and Dining If you need to clean your colon Foster's dining hall is the place to be! Most of the food is fast food type stuff, which doesn't help with the freshman 15. There are however a lot of choices and variety!
Dorm Life I hope you choose a good roommate! They will affect your college experience a lot. The setup of the dorms is that you can have a bathroom that you share with just your roommate, your own bathroom, or if you live in the traditional buildings you will have to share with the whole floor.
Academic Rigor Depending on what you're studying, the courses can start very hard and get easier as the years progress or vice versa. I got a 3.33 GPA my first semester and did the bare minimum work.
Tips for prospective students Make good friends! They influence you more than you think. You'll spend everyday all day with them, so make sure you choose wisely!
In three sentences IUP's campus is beautiful and the dorms are amazing. You don't have to share a bathroom with the whole floor, like most colleges. The atmosphere there is fun and easy going.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus PD is always on patrol which can be both good and bad.
Bang for the buck Though everything is a little expensive I'd say its all well worth it, you get what you are paying for.
What to do for fun Go to the gym or hang out with friends at their dorms or in the oak grove. There is always something to do.
Food and Dining Flex dollars come in handy, and the food is decent.
Dorm Life The dorms are beautiful and are equipped with everything you need. They are well worth the price.
Academic Rigor Some classes are difficult but there is always help available.
Tips for prospective students Look in to on campus housing, it is beautiful and you get your own bathrooms.
In three sentences IUP is a fantastic place to meet new people. The food is decent and meal plans and flex is convenient. The campus living is extremely nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Despite being a party school they are pretty strict with alcohol and weed. Be smart and avoid the wrong crowd in college its as simple as that.
What to do for fun Partying is the main choice as it is with any college. Yellowcreek park is very nice and has some good fishing action. You have a mall that you can explore which is very nice. You have a lot of small shops that you can browse for fun. Clubs are a great way to stay active in college.
Food and Dining Fosters: The variety is nice in all but it does get very boring after a while. Folgers: Its smaller than Fosters but the food here is pretty good campared to Fosters. The Hub: Its small interms of choices but the food here is very good. Its more like a mall in terms of food choices but i like it. My advice is to get a dorm with a kitchenette that way you can save on money with the meal plan because you can make some of your own food.
Dorm Life Everyone is really nice and the dorms are all new. The overhauling of the dorms makes living on campus very peaceful and relaxing. You can have a maxium of 4 people in your dorm depending on what type of dorm ypu pick.
Academic Rigor The academics here at IUP are very good. I'm going for Pre-Pharmaacy and i must say that the teachers are very nice. The classes arent too big but yet aren't small like a community college. The max with classes are 50 kids.
Tips for prospective students Get to know the school before you apply, just like with any school. Do your research on the schools you want to apply. I liked the reviews i got here and plus my friends have said that they really like the school. Be active in the community and dont be afraid to step out of the box with making new friends.
In three sentences IUP is a really nice school. The atmosphere is great here. I honestly cant wait for spring to come so I meet new people and make new friends.

What to do for fun They offer many clubs and activities for any student to be involved in.
Food and Dining The food is good but it is what is to be expected for college life.
Dorm Life They offer great housing facilities and the dorm life is safe affordable and fun.
Academic Rigor Their programs are great and they offer great professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students fun-seeking, academic focused and looking to get away from large cities/.
Bang for the buck Greta school and pretty cheap I love it.
What to do for fun Hangout with friends, hikes, walks, biking, bars/clubs, restaurants, lots of people, Pittsburgh is close, plenty to see.
Food and Dining Most of the food is pretty good, lots of variety and interesting meals.
Dorm Life Great dorms with lots of nice people and helpful staff.
Academic Rigor Challenging but not difficult if you are driven and focused.
Tips for prospective students Check out the surrounding town and area to see if you enjoy, walk around the campus and check out some perspective teachers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I don't feel the need to lock my door at night living here on campus. Campus police do prowl around, but it's only because this is IUP, and we are famous among other colleges for having big parties and riots. There are emergency blue lights everywhere. You just push it, and the police come right to you. It's good if you don't feel safe enough walking back to your dorm late at night. The police will escort you back home.
What to do for fun Watch movies, hang out in my friends' dorm rooms, go to club meetings, attend volunteer activities, do arts and crafts...pretty much anything that doesn't involve partying.
Food and Dining Though there are many places to eat on campus, and they offer a variety of foods, not much changes from day to day. You have to be careful which food item uses your flex dollars and which uses your meal plan swipes. They are not marked for that, but I wish they were. However, it could be far worse. I still eat on campus more often than not. Don't eat just junk though, because once you start down that road there is no going back.
Dorm Life I live in the Honors College, Whitmyer Hall, and even though it is a standard dorm I have to say I still love living in this communal setting. The honors college motto is 'building a community of scholars.' By living together, we are becoming just that. I hang out in my neighbor's dorm room all the time. If we hadn't decided to come to the honors college, we would not be the close friends that we are now.
Academic Rigor This largely depends on your field of study. For your first year, pretty much all your classes will be Gen Eds, but don't hesitate to take those classes intended for your major as soon as you can. The classes may not be too hard for some, but it's different for every student so you can't slack on your work.
Tips for prospective students Apply for the Robert E. Cook Honors College. You might think you aren't smart enough, but you would be surprised at what you can accomplish if you really set your mind to it. Also, get involved! Your college life is meant to be social as well as academic. There are more than enough clubs and organizations to choose from.
In three sentences Indiana is the perfect in-between size of campus; not to small but not a big city either. The Oak Grove is very gorgeous during the summer and fall and is practically the center of campus, so you can orient yourself to any place from one spot. The professors are really great as well because they value your education, and that is the most important thing to any student.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Indiana is a low cost school compared to most, and offers a lot of opportunities. There are many things to do on campus and off campus such as join a study group or study abroad. There are new building at Indiana because of it's new renovation which off a fresh look for students.
What to do for fun There are recreational and college sports available for anyone to do. There are also clubs to be involved for almost anything. There's also plenty of after school activities to attend on campus.
Food and Dining There are multiple places to eat on campus any where from cafeterias to cafes. The food can be bought using money, crimson cash, flex, and meal plans which makes it nice to balance money. There are also close by restaurants by the campus that are inexpensive for students.
Dorm Life There is opportunity to stay in the more private of the dorms which are the suites that can contain 2 people are 4 four people as though in a small apartment area. Students can stay in the traditional dorms where there are two people to one room and a lot less of a private area. Both lifestyles create an opportunity for students to engage and become more activie at college.
Academic Rigor The academics at school are not overwhelming but are challenging apart from my high school classes. The professors are easy to get along with. The most important things for the classes are to stay ahead of the work that's given because it can be a lot at once.
Tips for prospective students If you come from a rural area, there are 15,000 so keep that in mind. There are a lot of opportunities at the school so it's fun to be involved in something. Don't worry about coming in undecided, there is a year of general education that needs to be taken before any real classes for your major start.
In three sentences Indiana is known for being a party school amongst most, but after being remodeled in some areas it seems to have help clean up the student behavior. It is a well known school for criminology and education. It's a medium sized school with a lot of activities and opportunities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety butttons every 100 feet or so around campus for emergencies. Pretty much impossible to get into a dorm building without living it, and completely impossible to get into an individual room. Very safe, and with the police station practically on campus, you'll see them every few minutes drive by.
Greek Life There is a huge portion of Greek life if interested in it, but the Greek life does not dominate the entire campus, like they do in other big schools. The Greek life here offers both academic groups and social groups.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and activities, as mentioned before, for everything from french club to teachers clubs, to best buddies clubs, to, i'm sure, some kind of club for people pretending to be wizards.
Great for these types of students EVERYONE!
Bang for the buck There is everything you can ask for here. A beautiful campus at a small town. So many young people and things to do here without having to live in a city. Sororities and Fraternity life along with meetings of people dressed in capes playing something that looks like real dungeon and dragons. There is literally something for everyone, through clubs, activities, and the types of degrees.
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun around IUP. They have everything from clubs and sports events to famous comedian events and concerts. During the week there are shows in the theater and meetings that include a variety of interests.
Food and Dining Very expensive meal plan, but if you can eat a lot at an all you can eat diner, it is worth it. There are many options to eat other things than cafeteria food around campus. I like the variety of different types of food, but it will be a lot healthier and cheaper if you can cook at home.
Dorm Life I don't think that the dorm life is as fun as I expected. I found myself living with someone that I had nothing in common with and who I never developed a relationship with. I never met anyone else in my dorm halls that became a friend. They were very isolated and were not homey-feeling.
Academic Rigor Some classes or professors are naturally easier than others. It is best to study more based on the more credits a class is, if you are struggling to understand material, or if the teacher does not provide points on other non-test materials. As long as you learn the material, you will succeed.
Tips for prospective students Become prepared for college before you start. Everyone hears that college is more difficult and serious than high school, and it really is. You don't want to learn this the hard way, having your grades suffer your first semester or year. Start strong and become stronger by your graduation by studying every single day and going to all of your classes. It's okay to change your major, but to avoid taking too many extra classes try taking liberal arts requirements first.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a medium sized state-school that can vastly meet student's needs. This school welcomes diversity, in students and in courses. I truly believe tha this liberal-arts school can help anyone pursue their dream career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is always there when you need it and it is very helpful if you feel uncomfortable. In order to get in the buildings you need to have a card for that specific area so random people cannot enter.
Greek Life I am not affiliated with greek life but I know there is plenty of it for all types of people. There are honors fraternities, community service fraternities, and socials fraternities or sororities.
Clubs and Activities They have an activity for almost anything and if there is not one they are very open to starting new clubs. The clubs range from sports to quidditch to gender equality clubs.
Great for these types of students All students will find a niche at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in regards to the Jimmy Stewart areas.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Jimmy Stewart's elementary school is a main building on campus that houses the history department and his museum is also located downtown on philadelphia street.
Bang for the buck The school is definitely a bang for you buck. It is in expensive for everything that you get and there are so many opportunities and things to help you get involved.
What to do for fun My friends and I usually go on walks, or we go to visit friends on campus. There are also plenty of clubs, activities and greek organizations to join.
Food and Dining The food and dining is relatively good for college food. The majority of the places give for a wide variety and you can usually get whatever you like.
Dorm Life The housing is all relatively new with suite style dorms that allow for as much privacy as you need. The Community Assistants are always there when you need them and are a big help.
Academic Rigor As a freshman the academic rigor is not that high yet because you are taking your General Education courses that you need in order to graduate. In the upcoming years I expect it to get harder.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you are ready to study. You need to want to do well and not be afraid to go for extra help when it's needed.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful and it starts to feel like home shortly after you move here. There are so many opportunities for help and they are looking for your success. There are also plenty of activities you can do to get involved that allow you to make friends and feel comfortable right away!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Student parking is at a distance with no bus service on Sunday evenings when returning to school. I arrange for a roommate to ride over to park and walk back.
Clubs and Activities Not familiar with anything at this time but have not ruled it out. Possible it could be incorporated into the support services as a buddy system to get freshman involved and meet new people.
Great for these types of students 1 hour drive from home. Therefore, personal growth of being on my own yet close to family support. Wide variety of professional courses of study. Smaller town rather than inner city.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not much to say at this point in my experience.
Bang for the buck IUP is considered to be one of the cheapest educational institutions for quality yet the cost is staggering! The fear of jobs and payback in the end is always present.
Food and Dining Food is good with a lot of variety and easily accessed from various places on campus, however, be careful of the food plan you choose, usually an over-kill resulting in wasted money!
Dorm Life Very much depends on your individual personality and adaptability. All in all, not a bad experience.
Academic Rigor If you find that your Major is too difficult, you may be able to pursue your educational goal through another Major that better suites you.
Tips for prospective students Be proficient in computer set up and use before entering college. Don't be afraid to turn to IT Support and others. Ask Questions until you get your answer!
In three sentences Initially welcoming to incoming freshman with programs in place for initial move in but drops the ball in the first several weeks in keeping in contact with incoming freshman in adjusting to campus life. Some room to grow in this area.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe. After being here two and a half years I only remember getting two notices about an incident happening on or near campus where someone's safety was compromised.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus IUP has its 'Oak Grove', a nice grassy area in the middle of campus with lots of trees and benches where students can come to spend time when the weather is nice.
Bang for the buck IUP is one of the most affordable college educations you can find, and even with this you can make your experience here one that is a lot of fun and a great propulsion into your professional career.
What to do for fun There's a lot of things to do on-campus as far as organizations. Off-campus your choices are a bit more limited, but there is a bowling alley, movie theater, mini-golf, and a park.
Food and Dining There are three places on campus where you can get food, and for your freshman year you are required to live on campus and have a meal-plan. The cafeteria style dining hall is definitely cafeteria grade food, but you can only do some much when feeding thousands of people a day.
Dorm Life The residence halls have a superb staff of Community Assistants (as opposed to traditional 'RAs' or Resident Assistants, because they help to create a community). Sometimes they seem cheesy, but they are a great resource. Almost all the residence halls are brand new. It is mandatory for freshman to live on campus unless they have special circumstances.
Academic Rigor It is what you make of it. The classes are not very challenging, but if you want to be challenged you can join the Robert E Cook Honors College, take more classes, or ask to assist professors in research.
Tips for prospective students Once accepted, look to become involved in some type of activity. It's a great way to make friends and stay invested in the school.
In three sentences IUP is the biggest state school in Pennsylvania, offering many opportunities as far as majors and extra-curricular activities at a more affordable price than most colleges. It is big enough to find your niche, and your niche is small enough make it feel like home. So many opportunities are available if only you go after them.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities The Marching Band is outstanding! Sailing Club is also great. There are so many student activities available.
What to do for fun There are many clubs, organizations, and Greek opportunities to join for fun. Some students choose to attend social events on the weekends. I recommend balancing some of both. Just make sure you save time for sleep! You'll need it!
Food and Dining Aramark provides the campus dining. The food gets boring after a few months, but there are some good options. I prefer Einsteins Bagels for breakfast and burger studio for lunch. When selecting a meal plan, make sure you get flex! Many meals cost more than a meal swipe!
Dorm Life Most entering freshman choose suite style living. The sweets are newer and provide extra space. Suite style buildings harbor less of a community feel as the traditional dorms. I live in McCarthy. McCarthy, a traditional building, has shared bathrooms/showers and a common room. Sharing this space with the entire building creates a family-like community. If you are very social or would like to be, I recommend traditional housing. Keep in mind that it is very difficult to get on campus housing after freshman year, so you will then need to get an apartment.
Academic Rigor The classes I have taken were challenging, but tutoring is always available and professors welcome you to their office hours.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering IUP and know what major you are interested in, look at that college specifically. The Music College, as well as the Eberly College of Business, has great professors and classes. Also, join clubs/organizations when you get here. Joining the marching band and sailing club is what gave me all of my friends and connections.
In three sentences Indiana is a great school with a beautiful campus and many opportunities. It has an outstanding music program and many athletic opportunities. IUP could be improved by keeping students informed on there financial aid process and adding more housing opportunities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Emergency buttons are all over campus, and once you follow safety guidelines you should be fine.
Greek Life If that's your thing there are many service and subject based fraternities and sororities available. They will definitely keep you busy.
Clubs and Activities Too many options, think hard before you make your final decisions, and don't be afraid to jump around and visit different ones. One simply cannot be bored at IUP! Also bingo night on Fridays! They are free and you get to win really cool prizes (e.g. Flat screen TV, Xbox, Printer and many more), this proves that bingo is not just for old people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the beginning of the year be ready for a culture shock! Homecoming T-shirt designs are something to look forward to, they are hilarious!
Bang for the buck The cost of attendance is very reasonable and with all the resources available it is more than worth it.
What to do for fun Th is campus has endless amounts of clubs and organizations for any interest, and if somehow you do not find yours you can create a club of your own! If clubs and organizations aren't your thing gather a couple friends and play soccer, or frisbe on the lawns. For those who party, Philadelphia Street is always alive.
Food and Dining First year student students are required to purchase a meal plan from the school, which can be used at all of the many dining areas on campus. Your food options are endless and there are many delicious options for vegans! So good that non-vegans like can't help but have them.
Dorm Life Your overall dorm experience depend on you. Your choice of housing also has a lot to do with it too. Students who reside in suite-style housing tend to have a less rewarding dorm experience. The traditional dorm students are more interactive with each other, since they have to share a lot more resources (e.g bathrooms, study lounge, TV lounge, Kitchen etc).
Academic Rigor The difficulty of you classes depend on your major, however, for most classes there are Supplementary Instruction classes. This is basically review of what you were taught in lectures with more personalized attention. This of course is optional and students who attend these sessions tend to get better grades. Tutors are also available, and teachers are always happy to have students come to office hours with questions.
Tips for prospective students 1. Bring warm clothes. Indiana weather is very different, it gels cold at the end of summer, weeks before fall. 2. Rain boots!!!!!! 3. Rains a lot here and it is very unpredictable, so always have an umbrella with you. 4. For academic success exhaust all available options. Many resources are provided here at IUP. 5. Suits can be expensive, so for the first choose a traditional hall, it is so much fun and you get to meet new people easier.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a large university with a small, personal homely feel. There are small class sizes available which allow for individualized attention, and large lecture options which allow for a diverse view on topics. The campus is very diverse, which will help you to prepare for the workforce.

Categories Comments Campus Safety IUP is located on the same campus grounds as a University Police department which include trained and licensed police men and woman. They are constantly roaming the campus and respond quickly to any problems. They set a standard to answer any police issues within 3 minutes of being called. Also around campus are blue lights. These are towers with an emergency light on top with a button that if pushed puts you incontact with the university police department while simultaneously signalling a office to your location
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus IUP is full of crazy traditions. Many that you would have to see to believe. Some of the more popular ones are weekly Friday night BINGO, the annual drag show Glitz and Glam, IUP Day, Homecoming weekend, Student appreciation days and more.
Bang for the buck The campus atmosphere is inviting and the classes are comfortable. Sometimes, though, where IUP lacks is the food and maintenance areas. The campus area isn't too big, but with the amount of food places and living areas that the university is involved with their Dining managers and maintenance don't get to issues quickly enough.
What to do for fun Fun on campus can be seen in many different areas. Depending on what you decide to get involved with there is Greek Life, Community Life, Club Sports and other random events the campus may sponsor throughout the year. Off campus there are teen clubs, a movie theatre, a mall and many places to walk to.
Food and Dining School food is school food no matter how you cook it. Here there is one main regular cafeteria styled eatery but around campus there are other options that are available for meal plan. We have a Burger Studio, Fireplace Pizza, Einstein's Brothers Bagels, Quiznos and Chick-Fil-A all on campus. Although some of their places have limited options for meal plans, their extremely popular during the times when you want to splurge. Also near campus are other fast food places and diners that offer discounts to IUP students.
Dorm Life This is my favorite part of this school. Each of the suite-styled living at IUP are what they call living-learning communities. What this means is that you're not only living on campus but you're also given opportunities to interact with people on your floor and people in your building who are in your major. At IUP instead of having an Residence Assistants (RA), we have Community Assistants (CA). The difference is that the CAs are here to help students transition in college and make connections within their building with a little push and a lot of fun unifying programs.
Academic Rigor IUP borders a tough academic load once your advances in your major specific classes. Until then, the work load can be a little challenging but manageable. Most class sizes stay small unless it's a science lecture but even then the professors stay open and are always available during their office hours.
Tips for prospective students Be involved from the first moment you step on campus until the moment you leave campus for graduation. There's more than just sports and Greek life here, there is also student leadership and some off campus groups that come through the school to grab the student's attention. I also suggest living in a traditional dorm your first year. IUP is equipt with having both traditional and suite style living. My experience has been positive in both living styles but in the traditional styles you get to meet and experience new people a lot more. If you're outgoing choose to live in the traditionals!
In three sentences In a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the best) I would give IUP an 11. I expected certain things from this school and my expectations were exceeded above and beyond. My experience has been positive because of all the opportunities there are for students to get involved.

Categories Comments Campus Safety police are abundant.
Great for these types of students typical, mainstream, on a relatively tight budget, sports minded.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus homecoming and st.pattys day are HUGE at iup
Bang for the buck Tuition is quite reasonable, but housing costs and meal plans are a bit high for what you are getting.
What to do for fun A lot of students go home for the weekends. For those that stay and are of age, there are a few bars and a club downtown. Not going to lie the surrounding area is pretty lame, and there's not much going on.
Food and Dining The food has gotten a lot better! My favorite is the burger station and the fireplace pizza in folger. Now as far as cost goes you'll get the best value at foster-which is a buffet sty;e setting. Unfortunately what you save in price you loose in quality, but you can usually find something decent.
Dorm Life The dorms were newly renovated and are now mostly 'suite' styles. This is great in that it allows for privacy and more room capacity, but not so good in that it isolates residents from each other.
Academic Rigor Overall Classes at IUP are fairly easy, depending of course on your instructor. Most classes take role, so it's in your best interest to GO TO CLASS! The biggest problem I've witnessed is some instructors have thick foreign accents and a few don't speak English very well. This is a problem during a lecture as you tend to get so busy focusing on what is being said that you totally miss the lesson.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning on coming here, it is best to know someone before hand. Obviously this isn't possible for everyone but Students are generally unfriendly and cliquish, so its important to find your niche by joining clubs or maybe greek life. Also, classes fill up quickly so it is prudent to register asap!
In three sentences IUP is a relatively good school academically. This depends on your major but they have a good Crim and fashion dept. Socially, this school is certainly lacking.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is one of the top priorities of IUP. We have these blue emergency lights everywhere in case you have to use one and the reaction time is instantaneous.
Greek Life I hear that most people enjoy Greek life. They meet a lot of best friends their.
Clubs and Activities They supply huge amounts of great things to do.
Great for these types of students It is great for all types of students. Everyone enjoys it, no matter the age or the brains.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Oak Grove is in the center of the campus and is the most gorgeous thins especially in the fall when all of the trees are changing and falling.
Bang for the buck Flex dollars and crimson cash is the best thing ever. most people use it for coffee. That is what i do.
What to do for fun We have basketball and beach volleyball stuff set up everywhere. Philadelphia Street is full of good food and fun stuff. There are a lot of school/ student body sponsored stuff that goes on, like concerts and guest speakers.
Food and Dining Folgers is good, same with the Hub. It is mostly good depending of your preferences.
Dorm Life It is amazing. You meet so many people that are going through the same stuff you are and they (for the most part) are so nice. However, sometimes annoying.
Academic Rigor It can be tough depending on your professors. Your initiative also depends on the overall outcome.
Tips for prospective students Come visit the campus. You do not know what you want til you check it out first hand. Anywhere you go, always attend class. Some people do not and it shows up in their grades and GPA.
In three sentences It is a beautiful campus. I love the serene atmosphere even if it gets pretty cold in the winter. I like it because it is close enough to go home, but far enough away so my mother will not bother me.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I'm still trying to figure that out.
Food and Dining The food is good, but I do get sick of going to the same places over and over again. I wish that Fosters Dining Hall would have more guest chefs.
Dorm Life The dorms are wonderful. There are so many different options to choose from! Everything is kept in great condition.
Academic Rigor It isn't very challenging here. I feel like the work load and material is equivalent if not less difficult than that of my high school.
Tips for prospective students If you want to attend a university where there are many students who can engage in intelligent conversation on a variety of knowledgable topics, this may not be the place for you.
In three sentences The campus is absolutely beautiful and everything is just a walk away. However, there isn't a lot to do around here. It has a relaxed feeling to it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You're totally safe on campus. At orientation, they give everyone the number for the police, and they'd be more than happy to give you a ride back to your dorm if you don't feel safe on campus. There's a blue light you can tap at every corner of the campus if you ever feel unsafe. It's a relatively safe neighborhood.
Great for these types of students IUP is great for anyone who's serious about academics and for people who like to party.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus THE OAK GROVE is a wonderful place to relax, do homework, study, or just hang out with friends. The HUB is awesome, it has a large tv to hang out around, computer lab, workout center, food court with einstein's bagels & chik fil a!
Bang for the buck Definitely IUP has bang for its buck. Especially for Pennsylvania residents like me, I chose this school because it had a great Nursing program and at an affordable cost. Money is a big issue in my family, but IUP's tuition cost really hooked me in.
What to do for fun JOIN CLUBS! There's a club for almost anything, and if there's not, you can make one. Sailing club, guitar club, asian studies club, jewish club, you name it. There's a mall and a movie theater nearby, it's a BEAUTIFUL campus, especially in the fall. Most people like to hang out in the Oak Grove and hang out with their friends.
Food and Dining IUP offers 3 main dining halls: Foster's, Folger's, and the HUB. They all serve a great variety of food. No complains for me, but Foster's has its moments.
Dorm Life I live in a dorm, not a suite and I have no complaints about the dorms. It gets noisy once in a while, but I know people that live in the suites that deal with loud people, it's a part of college. Janitors come several times a week to clean the bathrooms, sweep the steps, clean the floors, and keep everything organized. The R.A. is really good at enforcing the rules and makes sure everyone's having an enjoyable time!
Academic Rigor I'm only a freshman, but the classes haven't gotten too bad yet because I took AP classes in high school. It's not too difficult as long as you attend class, pay attention in class and really put in effort. Professors have office hours which I have used, very helpful! If you've taken advanced classes in high school, your freshman intro classes shouldn't be too difficult.
Tips for prospective students Don't give up on your SAT's, IUP offers scholarships for incoming seniors, but they're competitive. Some majors here are more popular than others like Nursing, Education, and Computer Science. If you're interested in one of those, I recommend coming here, but even if you're undecided, they still offer some great programs.
In three sentences This school is the most beautiful state school in Pennsylvania. It's state owned so the tuition isn't too expensive, you get the bang for your buck. Most of the professors are great and really want to help you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can actually call Campus Police to escort you to your dorm if you don't feel comfortable or safe. Be smart, don't find yourself alone at an undecent hour- that's life.
Greek Life There are many different Greek Life organizations within IUP that can be of certain genres such as music or golf. It can get out of control, but only when individuals act immaturely.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities that range from Star Wars club to fencing to music. It is a wide variety that caters to everyones interest.
Great for these types of students Everyone is welcome in every area of the campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Oak Grove is in the middle of campus; organizations hold meetings here in this open, rustic, area where students can also eat lunch and hang out between classes.
Bang for the buck IUP is cost effective and affordable for the education that students receive. Financial Aid is available to almost anyone, and for the standard of the faculty and staff- it is a winning situation.
What to do for fun There is a myriad of organizations within IUP; be willing to branch out and expand on an interest that wasn't permitted or accepted in the High School. The opportunities are endless.
Food and Dining The main dining hall is an extensive buffet of healthy and nutritious foods leaving room for the desert and fun stuff. But, the I Card is permitted in other restaurants and snack stands throughout the campus and town, so a meal plan goes a very long way.
Dorm Life Of course, some dorms are better than others, but students are allowed to tour different facilities to in essence, See what you're getting yourself into. Dorms are meant for sleeping and eating, but the Dorm Staff, CA's, make the experience into a friendship building environment. Activities are also planned in addition to other events.
Academic Rigor Faculty is willing to take students to an entirely different level of understanding and academia. In return, each student should delve aggressively and accurately into course work and you will obtain for what you are paying: an extensive education.
Tips for prospective students Be willing to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone. College is a once in a life time expereince that should be treated with maturity yet a sense of being and social interaction. IUP will endorse your goals and fulfill the requirement necessary.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a college of respectable academia, delightful and courteous faculty, and beautiful facilities. IUP challenges students while allowing time to explore different opportunities within social and academic spectrum. Being a Crimson Hawk comes with a reputation of tradition, academic success, and excellence to achieve a goal Beyond Expectations.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, most of them from my major. I met them during my major club meetings. I also enjoy running the outdoor track.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great here and the community assistants are really good at getting the students to know each other.
Tips for prospective students One tip I would suggest is get involved in something. It doesn't matter what you get involved in as long as your doing something. It helps balances your time here and keeps you focused on why you came to college.
In three sentences This school is great for all types of students because there is a variety of majors and activities to get involved in. If you like a non-busy area with still plenty to do Indiana University of Pennsylvania is the college for you. There is plenty of on campus activities as well as off campus that deal with a living learning environment.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police make sure everyone is as safe as can be and they have a no tolerance rule for any kind of threatening, dangerous or unsuited behavior.
Great for these types of students This school is great for people who desire to broaden their minds and make a bright future for themselves, students who are a people person and students who like being far away from home.
What to do for fun There are concerts and social activities for student all around campus.
Food and Dining Honestly there is so many choices for food its sometimes hard to choose what you want but the dining hall allows you to eat to your hearts content. Also the food tastes great and the desserts are awesome.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are nice and roomy but i think the single rooms are the best for student who just love to have their own space.
Academic Rigor The classrooms are fairly big and the professors are lenient and always willing to help you make the best of your academic success.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to have all of your school supplies before you come, but if you don't then that's ok because there is a Walmart nearby.
In three sentences It has a beautiful campus and very large. There are lots of resources here for students and people are generally friendly. The faculties are supportive as well.

Food and Dining There are too many fast food places and not enough healthy choices. Its always busy.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice to live in. Each one provides a computer lab for students who cant afford a laptop. The CA's are very helpful and nice.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for housing as soon as possible. Make sure you are comfortable with asking questions in class. Study every free minute you get.
In three sentences IUP is organized and very up-beat. There is always some activity going on that students can get involved in to stay busy. Help is around every corner, and all students have to do is look.

Dorm Life love it away from parents get to meet new and different people from all over.its a place of nothing but connections
Academic Rigor definitely no like high school. more work and higher exspectations of students

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always a way to contact the police in case of an emergency and they won't bug you unless you have done something wrong.
Greek Life Join or look into joining a greek organization you will meet the most important people in your life. Your brothers or sisters will become your best friends and are the ones who have your back.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs one could join including sports. You could also join a greek organization.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You should try to pet one of the police horses during homecoming.
Bang for the buck I am an out of state students, but because of good grades I am closer to having to pay the in state tuition.
What to do for fun I am in a sorority and love it. I also am involved in ensembles on campus and perform concerts throughout the year. There are so many shows one can see if they do not want to watch any of the sports at school.
Food and Dining I would say to never really eat on campus. Most of the food has made people sick or not feel well right after eating. If I eat on campus I will get a bagged lunch or get something from the food truck.
Dorm Life The suites are really nice, but there isn't a true bond created with the other people on your floor. People are always in their room most of the day because they have a bathroom and kitchen area in the dorms. The walls are really thin because you can hear the people above and beside you at all time.
Academic Rigor As a music education major I do not take a lot of general education classes. I have found them to be very easy and its nice to take an online class every so often during the semester. There are some really cool classes that are here like the age of dinosaurs.
In three sentences Despite the weather IUP is a really nice and fun school. There is so much to do here besides go to class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are always out and about and we have emergency telephones around campus. If you are on campus you should feel pretty safe. Off campus you will occassionally see a cop, but there are definitely more on campus for your protection at night.
Greek Life The Frats often have socials and everyone is invited, excluding males unless they know someone in the fraternity. The sororities exist but you do not hear much about them.
Clubs and Activities Their's something for everyone.
Great for these types of students People that want to be in a small town with a smaller campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Supposedly some of our lecture halls are haunted and they will do tours occasionally with ghost hunters that you can tag along for at a price.
What to do for fun IUP hosts concerts and comedies throughout the year at low prices. Joining clubs or sports is a good way to always have something to do as well. Alot of people also go to the gym in their free time. The nightlife at IUP is great if you are of age.
Food and Dining The food is average and they have something for everyone. There are three different dining halls to choose from. The meal plans can be pricey, but they are currently changing the entire meal plan for this year.
Dorm Life Living in a dorm is important freshman year because you will get to know many people. The dorms are over priced and have strict rules though. I personally would recommend living off campus after freshman year, unless you want to be in the residential staff.
Academic Rigor If you put forth alot of effort for your classes you should pass. The people that do poorly are the people who never study or attend class.
Tips for prospective students Take good notes, go to class, and stay out of the party scene as much as possible. If you are going to party while attending IUP make sure you do not go back to your dorm rooms at the end of the night.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a great campus for people looking for medium sized classes. There are many clubs to join, anyone looking to participate could find a great fit. IUP also brings in great entertainment acts for cheap throughout the year.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Alarm systems in each building, emergency call boxes all over campus, on campus transportation, and the college has a police department. This police department functions the same as a local department, but specifically for the campus. They will patrol and offer public assistance too.
Greek Life I am not sure, but I would imagine it is included too.
Clubs and Activities There are all sorts of clubs. I was amazed to hear they have a ski club. If you are a volunteer firefighter, like me, then you can volunteer at the local fire department. There is a club for everyone.
Great for these types of students If you prefer a rural setting for your school experience, but like having the availability of local stores, then you will love this school. You can visit the small town, take a bus to the mall or wal-mart, or walk to the park. The area is beautiful.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you are a hunter, you can bring your gun on campus and the campus police department will house your gun. You can stop to get it before going hunting in the local area. Also, the campus police are real officers, not just safety patrol.
Bang for the buck I am able to save money on my text books by ordering them early. I can earn ten percent back from my purchase and have the opportunity to purchase used books as well.
What to do for fun The clubs offered on campus include skiing, hunting, a gym, and almost anything you can imagine. Concerts, movies and other activities are available too.
Food and Dining Various choices available for your dining experience along with a cash allowance for restaurants on campus makes the dining experience have more choices for you.
Dorm Life Newly remodeled dorms at IUP are designed more like a miniature apartment and include table, chairs, refrigerator, microwave and other amenities.
Academic Rigor Ask for a distribution sheet for your major and check to make sure you are prepared for the required classes.
Tips for prospective students Visit and tour college campuses. Compare programs of study and job placement.
In three sentences I believe IUP is an excellent school to attend. The school has updated living facilities and the campus is clean. After meeting some of the professors, I am confident that my classes will be run by educated reliable instructors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Nothing went wrong on campus, security is pretty tight at night, there a cameras everywhere, and the fire alarms work a little too well; don't burn your popcorn!!!
Clubs and Activities Too many to keep count of.
Great for these types of students Students that can't afford an expensive school but still want a great education, educational programs, students that like smaller campuses, and enjoy winter.
Bang for the buck IUP is a state school so it's a bit cheaper then Penn State and others.
What to do for fun There are trails in the woods about a half a mile from the campus, a gym where you can go to for free, many clubs to join, an animal rescue where you can volunteer at, basketball and volleyball courts, hookah bars, bars in general, a club, floor community programs, and shows hosted by TEN on campus.
Food and Dining There are many places around where you can eat. There's the P.O.D., HUB, Folgers, and Fosters. Plus, other little places scattered everywhere. You won't go hungry and there is a good variety of food so you won't get bored. Not to mention everything is pretty tasty, especially breakfast.
Dorm Life The rooms are really nice, you have a few choices in your living quarters. Everything is brand new yet the paint is cheap so use sticky tack or scotch tape to hang things. The walls are also thin so you may hear your neighbors through the night and in the morning. Communities on the floor host quite a few awesome people, be an extrovert, they may be as lonely as you are.
Academic Rigor Some classes are harder then others, it mainly depends on your professor and/or the curriculum. There will be lots of reading and some all-nighters. Maintain your daily studying to keep up with the work. Don't be afraid to ask questions; professors will like you more if you do.
Tips for prospective students One, be prepared for the weather to constantly change from pleasant to horrible thus invest in rain boots, winter gear, and an umbrella. Two, if your roommate is not what have you expected do not take any chances, switch rooms immediately so you won't be miserable. Three, be out going, have fun, make friends, maybe party, but always remember why you are there...it's for your education and you are the one that decides your future so work hard and and stay consistent!!!
In three sentences It is a great campus if you enjoy small towns and the four seasons. All the professors are very friendly and outwardly help the students in any of their needs. I give IUP a 8 out of 10 with meeting the needs of any student.

Tips for prospective students Don't go overboard with the partying and focus on your school work. Ask for help when needed. There are many opportunities for extra help.

Bang for the buck I love going to school at indiana university of PA. the quality of education is high, the campus is beautiful, and the price of attending is hard to beat.
What to do for fun The oak grove is an amazing place to hang out with friends or study. main street also has a large assortment of shops and restaurants.
Food and Dining The food is decent during the week. on the weekends the dining hall staff seems to work half staffed, and shut down the majority of the dining hall, thus limiting selection.
Dorm Life The traditional dorms are a terrible place to live. however, the suites are absolutely beautiful and are very spacious.
Academic Rigor After completing my first year of college, I look back and i know that i worked hard and finished with a 3.67. The teachers are tough and so is the workload, but your professors are also there to help.
Tips for prospective students 1. get a 19 meal per week meal plan. 2. dont live in a traditional dorm. 3. stay away from the frats. 4. enjoy your college experience

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is plenty of things to do for fun such as joining clubs and programs, once you get involved you can meet new people and you will love it. Another thing is once you start to meet new friends you guys can hang out go to the mall, or the movies and just do fun stuff. Also an option is partying you wouldn't want to party too much but once in a while it would be nice.
Food and Dining Food and Dining is something that can be good and bad as well. The good thing about it is the first couple of months you have so many choices and it is so much good food you just want it all. The bad thing is once the semester starts to end you get tired of the same repeating foods everyday.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great , but at times they can also be challenging. The most important thing to do is get along as best as you can with your roommate you guys will be living together for a whole semester and it is best to get along. You can go along to become close friends with your roommate and that can be a great thing.
Academic Rigor To be accurate with your academics the best thing is to stay ahead of your work `and get things done early. Another important thing is to communicate with your professor and ask them a lot of questions they are there for you and you also payed your fee so take advantage of it. Once you do those things you will be just fin with your academics.
Tips for prospective students There is a lot of tips to give , but there are only a few important ones the first tip i would say is to manage your time that is important because if not you will be very unorganized, once you mange your time you will be on top of things. Another tip is to stay focused on school work, once you enter college there will be a lot of distractions but it is important to concentrate and focus. The last tip i have is to communicate with your advisor and your professors i say that because they know what is best for and once you stay in touch with them your college life would run smooth.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a great college for accomplishing your desired studies. In a 1-10 scale i would rate it a 10 because of all the wonderful opportunities it provides to students. I'm glad i found this college to attend and to meet my career goal.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have campus police on duty 24/7 as well as Indiana's police. There are help buttons in many locations on campus that a student can press, and the police come within less than 2 minutes. Petty theft of books is the most common crime, but that is very avoidable.
Greek Life Our fraternities and sororities are very popular. They provide a true sense of family on the campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus, including the Language and Culture Exchange Club, LASO (a latino club), the sign language club, the history club, and other major-specific clubs. Different clubs have different activities, but many show free movies, have dances, etc. We also have International Unity Day, African Night, and IUP Day.
Great for these types of students All types. We have an honors college for students who are very academically focused, we have a large and diverse international community, and we have sororities and fraternities for those looking for a greek community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love the basement of our library because, if you go to the very back, you can find very old newspapers that hardly anyone knows about on campus.
What to do for fun On campus, there are many clubs, sororities, and fraternities that have many activities throughout the week. There are also performances that come to campus to our KCAC Center, including famous singers. Campus is also close to two movie theaters, a small mall, and there is a bus shuttle that can go anywhere throughout Indiana County.
Food and Dining There are many food options at IUP, including a dining hall with buffet style dining, and two other cafeterias with different food options like Chik-fil-a, asian food, pizza, Starbucks, etc. The meal plans can be used in those small fast-food places, but anything that the meal plan does not cover will be covered by flex.
Dorm Life The new suites are very nice, and there are many housing options, including two older dorms. The suites have living-learning communities that students can benefit from, as well as kitchens on every floor, laundry rooms on every floor, and a bike rack room. The downside would probably be the cost of things like laundry (which is $1.75 a load).
Academic Rigor Although some of the liberal studies are not too rigorous, the core classes are. The nursing, foreign language (Spanish), safety sciences, English, and criminology programs will all keep students busy doing research and other projects. However, this is a positive because it helps students reach their highest potential.
Tips for prospective students Look in the Oak Grove to see what is happening on campus because many students publicize activities there. Get involved in as many things as you can. Most of all, don't wait to start developing professionally because you want to leave IUP with as many new things on your resume as possible.
In three sentences IUP has many opportunities for developing professionally, including undergraduate and graduate conferences and work study opportunities. The professors truly take the time to open up new opportunities for students through giving recommendations and advising them about what to do. The campus has also had a lot of recent changes, including new suites and a fairly new fitness center.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Like I said there is always something going on around campus. The clubs and frats are always doing some type of fund raiser and the university hold programs for student all the time. Also the CAs in your dorm building have programs going on all of the time.
Food and Dining There is always something open with a bunch of options. It may not always be close to you depending on what dorm you live in. The food itself isn't five star but it does fill you up.
Dorm Life The Dorms are all very nice and clean. There is always something going on. The only downside of living on the dorms are all of the rules.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the class or professor but most of the ones that I have taken are really not that bad. If you do what is asked of you and you do it on time you will have no problem.
Tips for prospective students Do not get distracted by all of the parties. If you get your work done you have all the time in the world to party but get your work done first. Communicate with your advisor, a lot. Have fun.
In three sentences IUP is know well for partying but it is an awesome place to get an education. Most of the professors are willing to work with you to improve your grades. The campus is very clean and well kept with lots to do.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If you are concerned about campus safety at IUP, no worries! There are CA's in every dorm, police call polls all around campus and university police located right on campus.
Greek Life The Greek life is well recognized at IUP. There are different fraternities and sororities to pledge. Greek week is very big and celebrated; many events take place at IUP involving the Greeks.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs close by to campus. A lot of IUP students and people from the community attend these clubs and parties. There are also house parties.
Great for these types of students IUP is great for students who want to get away from home. It is in a rural area. It is also great for people who are extremely socially active.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are certain/random days out of the week where people pay go out. Holidays and events such as St. Patties day, homecoming, and greek week are very big and well celebrated around IUP.
Bang for the buck IUP is said to be one of the cheaper PA state schools. However, you get a lot for what you pay for. I believe it's worth it.
What to do for fun There are many things on and around campus to do in order to keep you occupied. Organizations, groups, and fraternities/sororities are available. There are also events and of course Parties!
Food and Dining Because there are many places to eat on or near campus you will never grow hungry. For those will a meal plan or felx dollars, the cafe, folgers, and the hub are available for dining. There are also SHEETZ and fast food restaurants nearby.
Dorm Life IUP has brand new residential suites; with the exception of 2 traditional dorms and on campus apartments. I recommend the suites to live in because you have options that traditional dorms can't offer. The suits offer private or shared bathrooms, central air/heat, game room, bike storage, option of 1-3 other roommates, shared or private bedrooms, living room, kitchen area, suite laundry room and study rooms.
Academic Rigor Although the academic rigors may vary, there is one main rigor that everyone can agree happens. Professors expect work to be on time and correct; many don't allow lateness to class as well. If work does not meet their standards or you're late to class a certain amount of times, consequences will be applied deducting points from your grade.
Tips for prospective students Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a great school. However, there are a few tips to prospective students that may be very helpful. Tips for prospective students include, getting close with your professors and advisor, staying focused on work first, rather than parties, and don't be afraid to get help if needed.
In three sentences IUP is short for Indiana University of Pennsylvania; it is a large university. IUP is a very active school with a lot a pride. I believe this is a great school to attend to farther your education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety IUP police are no joke when it comes to the safety of the students. They are out 24 hours making sure things stay safe! There are even emergency alert buttons throughout campus to ensure the safety of the students! IUP police are there to assist students as well.
Greek Life Greek like at iup is phenomenal! There are tons of fraternities and sororities to get involved in.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everyone! Whether you're into music, dance, arts, academics, film, volunteer work, anything! You will find something that suits you!
Great for these types of students If you're into the real college feel, i would def. recommend attending Indiana University of Pa. Why not enjoy the wonderful academic experience as well as the social life?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The oak grove is the place to be! The scenery is beautiful. Also, in the courtyard, outside of Stephenson suites, it's a great place to tan, play basketball or volleyball!
Bang for the buck To attend this university, in total it is about $23,000, however it is WELL worth the money! The dorms and suites are a great place to live and you really do feel like you're getting a bang for your buck!
What to do for fun There is never a dull moment! You can attend a concert, drive down to the lake, join a club, walk around and shop on Philly street, and even work!
Food and Dining There are many options to choose from! I prefer Fosters dining hall! their fries are to die for :)
Dorm Life The suites at iup are amazing! You have central air conditioning, and some even have their own private bath!
Academic Rigor Professors at this school want to see you succeed. They offer extra credit at times, and even engage in outdoor activities!
Tips for prospective students TIME MANAGEMENT IS KEY! Find a quite/comfortable place to study that it your own. BUY TONS OF FLASHCARDS!
In three sentences I love iup, its a great opportunity to attend this university. It is a beautiful campus with tons of things to do and explore! The professors are there to help and you'll never feel unwelcome! Its a home away from home!

Food and Dining The food is great! and the dinning staff is always polite.
Dorm Life Campus and dorm life are amazing. There's always something to.
Academic Rigor The classes here are no joke but if you establish a good relationship with your professors they wont mind helping you pass.
Tips for prospective students If you want to attend the main campus apply early and maintain your GPA.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There isn't much to do for fun, so you have to know people in order to have fun.
Food and Dining The food is pretty decent.
Dorm Life The suites are amazing, the only bad thing is that the walls are really thin. The only thing I know about the traditional dorms are that they are hot in the summer, but it's more of a community there.
Academic Rigor The classes are somewhat challenging, but if you work hard there should be no problem.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to deal with unpredictable weather. If you are a party person, do not get caught up in that life it will ruin your education
In three sentences IUP is an amazing school, like every school it has its ups and downs. You will receive an amazing education here though, and that is all that matters in the end.

Categories Comments Campus Safety From what i saw, the campus is very safe.
Clubs and Activities I'll be joining the Marching band in the fall and am very excited.
Bang for the buck I'd say its worth it, because it isn't very expensive at all.
What to do for fun Its in a city, so there is always plenty to do.
Food and Dining The buffet hall is exeptional, and has anything you would ever want. The way that you pay for the food is a little confusing, so you may want to have someone explain it to you.
Dorm Life The dorms are like big families, or at least the honors dorm is.
Academic Rigor It can be hard work, but at the honors college the classes are more of a round table discussion.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as you can.
In three sentences I was a lot less expensive than my first choice school, and i liked both of them about the same. I'm going to be attending the honors college there.

Food and Dining Very good food with lots of variety
Dorm Life The new suite style dorms are amazing.
Academic Rigor The courses are challenging in a healthy way. Extra support, like tutoring programs are available.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions. There was a lot of information given at the tour, but I wanted to know a lot more about my specific department.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck tuition is cheap and the campus and programs are wonderful
What to do for fun There are a bunch student organizations and sports such as ultimate frisby, soccer, tennis, track, basketball as well as comedy shows and concerts with anyone from bruno mars to wiz khalifa to jason derulo and wacka flack flame.
Food and Dining The food is DELICIOUS! Especially the breakfast. There is fresh fruit, an omelet bar, as well as all the classics like bacon, sausage and all the good greasy stuff. Lunch and dinner are great too. On campus there is also a quiznos and starbucks along with a ton others!
Dorm Life Most of the suites are new. They are all air conditioned and are set up like apartments. The dorms on campus are by far the nicest and cleanest I have seen.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you decided to take and the program you are interested in decides the rigor of work at this University. If you choose difficult classes, don't plan on sleeping in class. You will get more out of the classes if you show up and try your best!
Tips for prospective students Speak with your advisor at least one time a semester. Don't try to plan your program yourself. Get involved in student organizations.
In three sentences This University not only has a wonderful faculty, but an excellent registrar's office, admissions office, and study abroad program. All members of the faculty are willing to do anything to help you graduate with the degree you desire, on time. The campus is beautiful and I give this University 10 out of 10.

Categories Comments Food and Dining IUP has many dinning options with selections for every person and every pallet. From the HUB to Foster dinning hall there is something for everyone.
Dorm Life I cannot rate this, as I do not live on campus.
Academic Rigor Academics at IUP are relatively structured and progress at a good pace. Taking 15 credits is the recommended load.
Tips for prospective students Know the order of your classes and when each is offered. Utilize the CUSP program, it can make a big difference. If you live off-campus try to avoid 8 AM classes.
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a good school with many excellent professors who are extremely dedicated to their student's academic success. The college has many places for recreation as well as study and it creates a relaxed atmosphere that promotes learning. Bang for the buck For a state school IUP is awesome with educational value.
What to do for fun go to the lake, go downtown, go to the mall , go to concerts or club meetings.
Academic Rigor the honors college is 4/5 and many majors here are difficult.
Tips for prospective students a lot of people have bad first impressions of IUP visit more than once, visit a class and don't believe the rumors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The university police are always available and there are emergency buttons on poles all around campus.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs for just about anything you can think of, varying from ghost hunting clubs, to video game clubs
Great for these types of students Great for any type of student, there are all sorts of people with different personalities and interests. Even people who don't party such as myself can fit in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some of the buildings are supposedly haunted, so people like to ghost hunt in those buildings at night.
Bang for the buck IUP is an overall great school and not extremely pricey, I am satisfied with choosing this school.
What to do for fun For fun people go to the mall, walk around campus, relax in the Oak Grove, bowl, go to restaurants, etc.
Food and Dining Food is decent, although it is known for giving people stomach aches at times, it all depends on what you eat and what your stomach is accustomed to. It isn't gourmet food or anything, but it is better than high school food. Plenty of variety too.
Dorm Life If you live in the suites, it's a bit more difficult to make friends. Many people who live in the suites only know their roommate and feel bored and lonely because the suites are set up like a hotel where people live in their room and keep to themselves. The traditional dorms are great, however. You get to know basically everyone in the building mainly because you share a bathroom with your floor and suffer a few sacrifices, such as no air conditioning, forcing you to keep your door open for air. This helps people walking by to pop in and say hello. If the traditional dorms were in a little better shape they'd be the ideal living area. Although, they're not from that as is.
Academic Rigor Depending on which professors you have and what classes you take, you most likely will have to work hard to benefit from the class. Some classes may be an easy A but most classes dealing with your major will require much attention in and out of class.
Tips for prospective students Come to college prepared to work, don't skip classes and take classes you'll enjoy and you will be fine. Also, traditional dorms are better for those who want to make friends easily.
In three sentences IUP is a great school with a very good education system. The location is nice, and the set-up of campus is decent. The school offers great classes.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus MR. MUCHIE! great food truck located by some of the frats that has amazing hotdogs and drinks while your out on the weekend.
What to do for fun Well, it is IUP so there is the partying off campus for students to do. However there is a lot more to do to. There is always stuff going on on campus between programs and movies and concerts. This past year IUP had ross matthews, texts from last night, never shout never, and wiz khalifa come and a ton more.
Food and Dining Food at IUP is ok, you do have a ton of options as far as the three different places on campus, the meal truck, the packed lunches, and the chick-fil-a. Also on philly street which is only a five minute walk there is a variety of places that use off campus meal plans.
Dorm Life All of the dorms have different personalities, and they each have thier own positives and negatives. However, they are so much fun. In the suites, you have to try a little harder to meet people but there are several common areas where you can meet and hang out as well as programs that the CA's put on for you to go and meet people.
Academic Rigor IUP curriculm depends on your major or minor, however as long as you go to class and do your homework you should be fine. It also depends on your amount of credits, but the biggest thing is making sure that you put your schoolwork above all else.
Tips for prospective students For future students, I would tell them to be prepared to not get alot of sleep, it is extremely important to go to class if you want to succeed. Also, keep in mind that if you want to remain friends with people from back home it takes effort. Another tip I have is to try to meet up and get to know your roommate before moving in, itll make it that much easier and you will already have one friend on campus.
In three sentences I would rate IUP very highly, it is a campus that has someting for everyone. There is always something going on either on or off campus for students to do in thier free time. IUP also has many great programs and minors to choose from.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never experienced anything dangerous or suspicious on campus and there are 911 buttons everywhere. Campus Security is also right on campus so if anything were to happen they could respond to calls quickly.
Greek Life They're everywhere.
Clubs and Activities If you can think it, IUP probably has it. My freshman year my CA Rob set up a game of man-hunt in the Oak Grove just for fun. A lot of people turned out and as soon as it got dark we played hard. that's just one example of an activity.
Great for these types of students IUP is great for any type of student. It's diverse and the people are friendly.
Bang for the buck Iup is a good school, but it is definitely not worth the 20,000 dollars in tuition each year. If you have a car to bring to school that'll be at least 200 a semester anywhere you decide to live and the food is not nearly tasty enough to be $4.88 and rising.
What to do for fun If you're a fan of walking or riding your bike IUP is the school for you. There is not much to do at all but there are plenty of restaurants and activities on campus. Parties are also plentiful there, but remember what you're going to school for.
Food and Dining Compared to most colleges/universities the food is good. There are a variety of options for meal plan and 4 different places to go to eat. It's expensive ($4.88) and can get real boring after a while.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome! Freshman are required to live on campus, but after freshman year you have a multitude of options to choose to live. The CA's in the dorms are good people and are there for you. I miss living in the dorms.
Academic Rigor The courses keep you busy, depending on the major. If you're going for medical, law, psych anything with an honors society pretty much you're going to be busy with work. It's bearable.
Tips for prospective students IUP is notorious for partying, but what school isn't? Keep in mind what you're going to IUP for or else you're not going to do so well. Experience has been my toughest teacher.
In three sentences Iup is absolutely beautiful, maintenance keeps the grounds sustained with vibrant flowers in the spring and summer terms while even in the winter Indiana is a sight to behold. The professors are extremely nice, yet they don't care if you fail, it's all up to you. There are plenty of residence halls on campus so you don't need to worry about places to rent.

Categories Comments Greek Life The Greek Life at IUP is amazing, if something is going FUN the Greeks more than likely have their hand in it!
Bang for the buck Indiana University is Division II state school with the atmosphere of Division I big time school. All the dorms are brand new and a new basketball arena was built where many events take place such a concerts that many musicians have performed in from rappers to country musicians. I must say things are on the way up for IUP!
What to do for fun Sporting events at IUP are very fun. The dedication to the Universities Sports teams makes going to the games that much more fun. The party scene at IUP is the best of all the state schools. Hence the nick name IUP = I Usually Party
Food and Dining There are various places to eat a IUP and a array of different foods to choose from but like any other college after two years you will be tired of campus food!
Dorm Life Dorm Life here is great! The dorms here at IUP are top of the line and very comforting, unlike the jail like atmosphere that can be found at other Universities
Academic Rigor Lets not forget we are talking about college! You shouldn't expect it t be easy, do your work and spend your time wisely and you will be just fine.
Tips for prospective students Do your work and study! College is sometimes made out to be harder than it really is, be able to manage fun and your education and you will be just fine. There are lots of opportunities for fun at IUP but to much fun and not enough dedication to your school work will cut your college experience short!
In three sentences Indiana is a good school with good advisors, but like many others schools scheduling can be tough. There are plenty fun things to do at IUP'S campus and you will find that IUP has a very diverse student population despite the very rural location of the school.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Let's be honest; College is expensive and it's not getting any cheaper. But, IUP is one of the cheaper state schools we have in PA.
What to do for fun Hanging with my friends at thier places is definitely my favorite, but you can also go to the gym, go see plays, play basketball, go on the track, walk around campus, go to Philly street, or even hit up the Indiana Mall.
Food and Dining Hey, it's not mom's home cooked food, but the food here is a close second. You can eat at many different places with a ton of choices to pick from.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is way too easy. You're right on campus and a walk to your class is no more than 5 minutes; Walking to eat is also the same amount of time which is very convenient.
Academic Rigor Four stars because a lot of people will love this school, but some might think of the school as being too small or even too big.
Tips for prospective students Study hard, go to class, and enjoy yourself! College is supposed to be the best years of your life, so let it.
In three sentences IUP is the best school that you could attend at the moment. From the classes to the professors to the housing and food, you cannot go wrong here. IUP was the best choice of my life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety officers are always patrolling on and around campus
Greek Life pan hellenic and non pan hellenic
Clubs and Activities Too many clubs and organizations to mention. My personal involvement id with SHRM undergrad International Business Association pan African student association
Great for these types of students Depends on what you like to do, IUP has something for everyone!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Students stage protests and fight for whatever cause we believe in. Bringing the campus together. Adopted an IUPatty's day.
Bang for the buck Surrounding restaurants have great specials on food. (wolfies, coney's, krangers)
What to do for fun The campus has numerous activities provided mainly by student organizations. The cost ranges from free to thousands of dollars.
Food and Dining Aramark is the primary group on campus that provides food for students. There is a student restaurant on campus, which the food tastes great but is costly for students. All campus dining establishments are clean and well taken care of.
Dorm Life There is only 1 dorm currently remaining. The campus did renovations and made all previous dorms into suites. Campus living is way too expensive and the lottery system does not guarantee incoming freshmen housing.
Academic Rigor The professors and staff follow the campus rules and regulations and will have consequences to follow if a student does not abide by the rules.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared and in the mindset of a responsible and mature student whose main goal is academics first and fun second. Do not procrastinate, and follow the advise given to you by individuals older than you. Trust me they know what they're talking about!
In three sentences Academically a 3 on a scale of 1-5, 1 being the poor quality and 5 being high quality. Becoming more diverse, but expensive. A lot of student involvement.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are readily available in case of any emergency. There are emergency call stations set up around campus in case any student needs assistance.
Bang for the buck Choosing to attend IUP is absolutely away to get your money's worth at college. Being an IUP student is not ridiculously expensive and with the amount of opportunities the university offers it is worth every penny. Students gain a great education and are offered activities that will heighten their experience in their field also.
What to do for fun There is always something going on at IUP. Each day students receive an email called The Beak that provides them with a schedule of what will be happening within the week. On a daily basis students can enjoy their time in the oak grove on a sunny day or hit the gym for a couple of hours. On other days it is possible to get a ticket to see plays and shows put on by fellow IUP students. There are also many events that come to the Kovalchick Convention Center on campus such as concerts or comedians. During the fall semester students can have a great time by going to cheer on their football team. IUP also provides many activities that are both educational and fun. For example, there are career fairs held that give students the chance to look into possible careers while enjoy snacks and other students company. With all that is offered on campus and activities that can also be done off campus, it is possible to never have a dull moment as an IUP student.
Food and Dining The IUP campus offers plenty of dining opportunities for students. There is a major dining hall on campus that provides a buffet style meal for each essential meal of the day. There is something for everyone. It is easy to eat healthy with a salad and fruit bar offered and low fat choices. Besides the dining hall there are several other buildings that provide food. The library is home to Java City which is a great place for coffee when you're on a long day of studying. You can also find small snacks such as muffins and bagels at Java City. Another great food source on campus is the Folger Food Court. Here students can choose from ethnic food, wraps, pizza, Quiznos, and a variety of home related foods. Closer toward the end of campus students can find dining in the HUB. Students can choose from salads, sandwiches, and Chick-fil-a. IUP does a wonderful job of providing food sources for it's students
Dorm Life Dorm life will be an experience that you will be thankful for forever. Resident buildings are kept very clean and provide students with vending machines, lounging areas, and computers. Living in the dorms you will meet many new friends from around the country and also from other countries. Dorms are mostly centrally located on campus and it will take at most 10 minutes to get to a class. The dorm buildings are also very close to dining on campus so that breakfast, lunch, and dinner are easily accessible for students. Dorms provide a great experience for students.
Academic Rigor The work load for each class can vary. All classes at IUP are challenging, however, help is always offered and there is a lot to be learnt. New students can expect to be reading and writing a lot more than they may be used to from high school. Professors are not out to get you with their assignments, however. Every assignment, no matter the difficulty, is meant to teach the students and after completing the work you will feel great. There is a writing center on campus that will offer help with any writing assignment. The library offers hard copies of books and also many helpful E journals online. Tutoring information is posted around campus for assistance.
Tips for prospective students Students that will be taking science classes are offered SI tutoring at a certain time twice a week. These sessions are very helpful. Also, don't be a stranger to the library. There are several floors to the library offering access to computers and hundreds of books, it is a great place to study and get your work done before relaxing at home. If you find yourself struggling in a class don't be afraid to go speak with your professor during his or her office hours. Professors offer up their office hours to help their students.
In three sentences The IUP campus is beautiful and easy to navigate around. Classes are challenging but rewarding. The environment is welcoming and there are many programs offered for tutoring.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency poles located around every corner on campus. One press of the button on those bad boys will deliver to you a personal police officer to escort you at your pleasure. The University Police Station is located on campus within a short distance of everything. However, it is rarely necessary. Indiana isn't exactly the most dangerous place, and the college is very safe.
Great for these types of students If you're the type of person who loves discovery, making friends out of all types of people, and can never get enough living out of life, then IUP is a good choice for you. The flexibility of the campus encompasses everyone.
Bang for the buck IUP is fantastic education for a price that honestly cannot be beat. Almost anyone at IUP will tell you that the cost of the education here was one of the top reasons they decided to come. Compared to most of the colleges close to IUP, it is definitely the best value.
What to do for fun Speaking of off campus, the town of Indiana is full of life and things to do. An ever-running bus system can take students anywhere they want with their I-card. The crazy awesome city of Pittsburgh is only an hour away. On campus, there are an incredible amount of organizations to get involved with, from Fencing Club to Greek life. On sunny days, most IUP students have fun getting together with some friends and spreading out a blanket in the Oak Grove.
Food and Dining There are three places to eat on campus. The main dining hall is called Fosters Hall. It features buffet-style dining - all you can eat for one meal swipe. The quality of the food can vary, but usually it's alright (though notably better on Parents Weekends). The second option is the Hub Rock II. It has a Chick-Fil-A, salad station, and many other great options that are a bit tastier than Fosters. However, a meal swipe doesn't get you much here. You'll have to dip into your Flex money or bank account to get anything really good. Folgers is the last dining option. It is very similar to the Hub, but it also has a Starbucks and a Quiznos. Overall, there are some great options for food. None of this is to mention the tons of restaurants within walking distance of campus either.
Dorm Life IUP has recently constructed several brand new suite-style dorms for students. They are emasculate and beautiful with several different layout options depending on how you want to experience living here. There are also a few traditional residence halls that also provide excellent accommodations at a lower price. Every residence hall comes with a colorful atmosphere and plenty of things to do. RAs and CAs in each building organize activities and fun things to do with dorm-mates weekly. It never gets boring.
Academic Rigor Each college at IUP has its own requirements in terms of academia. When first looking through these requirements, all of the classes and credits can seem a little overwhelming and confusing, but after a good talk with your assigned advisor, that confusion can usually be sorted out. There's a lot of support for students here when it comes to academics. The Honors College here is also fantastic and infamous for producing great thinkers.
Tips for prospective students Have a financial plan in place before you apply, then apply early. Be prepared for some pretty life-changing experiences here. IUP can become a part of you just as you become a part of it. Ask lots of questions when you call to set up a visit to make sure IUP is right for you. When you visit, make sure you can envision yourself walking through campus in all sorts of the bizarre weather that western PA throws at you. But more importantly, make sure you can see yourself growing into the person you'll always be here.
In three sentences IUP is what college should be. It has great academic programs, opportunities abound in just about every aspect of life, and a diverse and colorful atmosphere. There's a lot to discover here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety at IUP is top notch. There are emergency buttons every so many feet, so that if a person feels threatened, they can press the button and the police will be notified. The police station is also on campus, and there are many hotlines and helplines you can call in a difficult situation.
What to do for fun IUP is always having fun events, like picnics, dances, and sporting events. The oak grove is also always a place to go to lay out, sit and relax, and interact with students passing by. There is always something to do on campus!
Food and Dining IUP has every kind of food imaginable, whether you are a vegan, all-organic, or just a regular meat eater. The dining hall offers festive food days where you can enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner, or make your own Christmas cookies. You can also just sit down and talk while having a nice meal with your friends.
Dorm Life Staying in the dorms is the best place to make everlasting bonds with new friends. The dorms feel like home to me. They are equipped with everything you need and are extremely comfortable.
Academic Rigor The courses at IUP keep you occupied and involved in what you're doing. They keep you focused. You are able to take the lessons you learn in class and apply them elsewhere.
Tips for prospective students Keep a calendar of assignments that are due; this is a great time management skill. Don't be afraid to make new friends. Take every extra credit opportunity you can get.
In three sentences IUP has a beautiful campus filled with wonderful scenery. The people are friendly and helpful. I always feel at time.

Categories Comments Campus Safety IUP is a very safe and secure campus. The dorm building lock after 8pm every day. Each wing of the dorm building is always locked. Your dorm room door locks and so does your bedroom door. Your bedroom windows lock and will not open more than 6 inches as a safety precaution. The police are always around and there are emergency buttons located around campus. If you press that button the police will be there within 2 minutes. It's very safe.
Greek Life There are tons of opportunities to go Greek at IUP. There are honor, religious, themed, and just fun fraternities and sororities to join. Don't miss out!
Clubs and Activities There are infinite clubs and activites you could join. There are all kinds of religious groups, anime club, sports teams, residence hall association, everything! There's even video games club.
Great for these types of students Great for all types of students, especially education majors!
Bang for the buck It's cheap compared to other schools in Pennsylvania.
What to do for fun You could go hang out at Indiana Mall or Walmart. There are also some interesting stores along with the Jimmy Stewart Museum on Philadelphia Street in downtown Indiana.
Food and Dining The quality of the food depends on where you go. Fosters Dining Hall's food isn't so great, but it is buffet style. The HUB (our student union) has a make-your-own pasta and salad places along with a hamburger place, Chick-Fil-A, and a sandwich shop. Folgers Dining Hall has a pizza place, a wrap station, oriental food, home foods, Quiznos, and Starbucks. You can used meal swipes at most places and flex to cover the rest.
Dorm Life The suites are brand new! You can have your own bedroom, the kitchens are furnished with a microwave and mini-fridge, and you have a bathroom located in your suite. You are spoiled at IUP as far as dorming goes.
Academic Rigor I have found most of my classes to be fairly moderate in the difficulty and workload. English 101 is killer, some classes are easy, some are average it all depends on the professor.
Tips for prospective students GO TO INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA!!
In three sentences IUP is a great school, no matter what you have heard. The education is great, the professors are personal, the dorms are brand new, and the food isn't half bad either. I would highly recommend it to anyone searching a welcoming and comfortable school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The university can't stress anymore how vital the safety of their students are. The university has it's own police department that patrol the campus 24/7, and if your life is in danger and they aren't around then there are emergency button posts all over the campus that sends them to your location immediately
Greek Life The Greek life here is pretty big, big enough for the majority of the campus to spend at least a night out at one of them. The rumors that Greek Life is tough when pledging is a rumor. From what I have heard they mostly test you on the history of the frat. Some frat houses are worse than others but overall the Greek life is a positive one.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to join from, there is not one person on campus that can't look at the list of clubs and say there isn't at least one club that interests them. They are made by students for students. IUP activities are mostly educational but some are very fun such as IUP day where many clubs come together and have tables to welcome new members.
Great for these types of students Indiana University of Pennsylvania is great for ALL types of students, everyone is welcomed and everyone can find something to do and meet new friends. The more open you are the better for your college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's always something going on in the Oak Grove either youth groups trying to reach out, free stuff and drinks, and just over all a well rounded cool place to hang out. When the weather gets better more people come and hang out there and just relax all day long.
Bang for the buck Coming from an out-of-state student I would say that the price to go to school here is rather more than fair. Local universities around my house costs more yearly than IUP.
What to do for fun Besides hanging out with friends there are pages or clubs listed that grab any one's interests. There are social events every weekend and malls just a drive away.
Food and Dining The food on and off campus is good. The buffet dining hall offers lots of food and has special events. The other dining halls around are better quality overall but come at an extra costs. Depending on what you want to eat the school gives you different options to pay for it. If you are do not want school food then there are many local restaurants that can provide you with what you want.
Dorm Life Everyone is friendly and open to meeting new friends. The traditional halls are more of a family than the suites that are more private. Depending on where you live there are ups and downs. The suites are a great place to keep to yourself while in a more luxurious living space, but limit how well you know the people around you. The traditional halls though they might not be as new or functional as the suites, offer more of a family environment where you are bound to make lots of friends.
Academic Rigor There are lots of great majors and classes that the school offers and living dorms that are dedicated to matching others with the same major to make a more friendly helpful community.
Tips for prospective students Small college but many stores and restaurants just a walk away. Be friendly and don't be afraid to join in some of the numerous opportunities that the college emails all students daily called The Beak
In three sentences Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a great college with many great opportunities for all students. This may be a small town university but there is a lot around to provide a positive and great experience for everyone. I would highly recommend this university to younger students in search of a great college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police roam campus all hours of the day and night and are just a call away. If you feel alone at night and don't want to walk across campus alone you can call campus police and get an escort across campus.
Greek Life Fraternities and Sororities are involves everywhere on campus holding charity events and fundraisers all the time
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities and if you cant find one you enjoy or are interested in then you wont find it anywhere.
Great for these types of students Any types of student. IUP is home for everyone
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Faculty vs Students Basketball and volleyball games, Homecoming, State Patties Day, and The Oak Grove hold various activities
Bang for the buck One of the cheaper PASSHE(Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education) so a degree from here is as good as any.
What to do for fun There are tons of clubs and intramurals you can get involved with. A Lot of people party which is typical when you think of college. There a mall and movie theatre five minutes away from campus. The fun is really what you want to have fun doing.
Food and Dining Dining hall is buffet style so come eat all you want. Other places to eat are the HUB and Folgers. Folgers has a Starbucks and Quiznos inside. McDonald's, Taco Bell, Arby's, Subway, Domino's, Papa Johns are all close to campus.
Dorm Life The suites on campus are really nice, depending on what kind you get depends how nice they are but even the basic package is really nice.
Academic Rigor Class sizes are relatively small which means more time with your professors. Professors will work with you and give you help if you need it.
Tips for prospective students Come in with an open mind. IUP is in a small town so people get bored and want to leave. Just like any other school IUP is what you make of it so make the best of it.
In three sentences IUP is a great school, it gives you the big college experience but with a small college atmosphere. Professors are all very good. You'll meet friends you will be able to keep a lifetime.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus safety is a big concern on iup's campus. no matter where on campus you are you will always be able to find an emergency intercom that will connect you to the police department.
What to do for fun indiana is a small town with not that much to do, but provided that you can have fun with whatever you and your friends are doing you will have a good time.
Food and Dining a lot of people complain about the food on campus; however, for the amount of bulk that aramark must supply the quality, honestly, is not that bad. the food could be better, but it could also be much, much worse.
Dorm Life through my dorm life i made friends that i will have for life. they are like family to me and i am happy everyday that i chose to live where i did.
Academic Rigor the academics are not as bad as some would think provided that you apply yourself and manage your time. the professors that i have had all really cared about the students and were happy to help when needed.
Tips for prospective students manage your time well and keep up with your class work. it can be overwhelming and boring at times, but trust me it is worth it to try the best you can.
In three sentences iup is a good school that at times gets a bad reputation for either the acceptance rate being high or that it was known as a party school. it is a great place to get an education, though. i am proud to be a crimson hawk.

Categories Comments Greek Life As a member of greek life, I suggest for people to look into it. You get to meet people you would've never thought of meeting and you never know what kind of networking it will bring.
Clubs and Activities Greek life!
Bang for the buck It's a cheaper school when compared to others in the area.
What to do for fun Get involved in greek life or sports if you want to be busy. If you're not involved in something, you will get bored.
Food and Dining There are three dining facilities, people have their preferences on which is best. There isn't a lot of variety.
Dorm Life The suites are nice but too pricy. It is cheaper to live off campus and you have more privacy that way.
Academic Rigor Classes aren't hard if you put the required effort that they call for. Certain subjects are obviously going to be more difficult and time consuming than others.
Tips for prospective students Don't go home every chance you get. Be open to making a variety of new friends. Get involved in campus groups and activities.
In three sentences I came here because it was far from my hometown and I knew people that were going to attend IUP as well. The winters are rough if you're not used to extreme cold. It is in a small town so there isn't much to do outside of school.

Tips for prospective students This is time to get out and make friends. Don't be afraid to get out there and go up and talk to someone new. Don't just hang out with high school friends. Be friendly! Learn to have time management and you should have no problem doing well on your class. As most people know, IUP can be known for the partying. Honestly, there is a decent amount, but you just have to be smart about it. Don't go crazy, but learn to socialize!
Bang for the buck Compared to colleges in other locations with the same degrees, this is a great deal! People pay the same amount of money as us with less options. The teachers want you to learn and every class is worth the tuition price. Even though all over the country tuition prices are going up, IUP is working hard to keep ours down. Thank goodness.
Am enjoying being here I come from a small town and IUP is like the mixture between small town and city life. In the town of Indiana, it is definitely a small town feel. Campus life and the main strip of businesses isn't far down of the road. Campus is always busy and the business life has so much. There is a small mall, and tons of food options. For a fun day Pittsburgh is only an hour!
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot here. The teachers that I have had so far have all been very helpful. I don't feel overwhelmed by homework, but I can tell I'm learning. The learning environments are all laid back, giving it the homey feeling, but still learn the same content. The technology and facilities make it nice to

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students The best advice I can give goes to two groups: everyone and to prospective biology majors. To everyone: Take as many classes as you can outside of your major as well as in it. Be responsible and respectful to the professors. You never know if you end up applying for a minor and/or ask one of your past professors for a letter of recommendation. To biology students: If you are interested in research or field work, be a confident student and seek out these opportunities, especially as an undergraduate. It provides you with great experience and is there for you to pursue if you are serious about it.
Am enjoying being here I've enjoyed befriending many people from when I lived in the dorms (Elkin Hall for 2 years) to participating in extracurricular clubs and activities to various classes and even further to the field work I've done for the past two summers. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to be part of and conduct research as an undergraduate and to learn from the experience to prepare for graduate school and the real world in general
Am learning a lot Not only am I learning a lot through the classes I'm required to take for my major, but from the other outside electives and therefore learning from people in other majors I may not have otherwise interacted with. It's extremely important to be versatile, open, and understanding to many different topics and different people that can challenge you intellectually.

Great for these types of students Biology majors for sure and I've heard it is also a good school for business and music (instruments) but don't quote me on that.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I believe this school is great for all different types of students because it is really diverse.
Tips for prospective students My advice is that you should have an open mind and come out of your shell a little. College is a place where you will meet lots of different kinds of people. Also get real familiar with your professors and the people who work in the financial aid office. You never know when you might need them. =)
Bang for the buck Compared to other Pennsylvania State schools this is one of the cheapest.
Am enjoying being here I really love IUP! Being from Philadelphia coming to IUP was a huge change. At first I was a little put off by how small of a town Indiana is but once I started making new friends I realized there was lots to do there. There is always something interesting going on on campus from concerts to movie nights. Everyone is so friendly. There is a mall, movie theater, and bowling alley not too far from campus. You'll never go hungry there are lots of places to eat on and off campus. You'll love it just like I do.
Am learning a lot For the past two semesters that I have been here I can honestly say that my professors really care. That take the time out to make sure you are learning all of the materials. Not to mention all the tutoring that goes on on campus. If you don't know something it wont be that way for long.

Tips for prospective students Ask questions!! Everyone at this campus is more than willing to help in any way they can.
Bang for the buck Since IUP is a part of the PSSHE, it is far less expensive than most universities. There is a long tradition of alumni contributing to the operation of the school which also helps keep costs lower. The education is as good, or better, than any other university with which I am familiar.
Am enjoying being here IUP is a gorgeous campus with wonderful, helpful people.
Am learning a lot I have never had a bad professor at IUP. There is a very diverse curriculum, and one need only put forth the effort to learn whatever he/she chooses.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any type. There's such a diversity within the student body and within the curriculum and activities that you can pursue. From Greek Life, to the Rugby team, to Chemistry Club, IUP has something for everybody it seems.
Tips for prospective students Try EVERYTHING. IUP may seem small at first, but there's a surprising number of people to meet and so many things to see and do that you definitely shouldn't miss out on. Don't be afraid to throw yourself out there, network, and try something new. It may surprise you, and lead your life in a direction you never would have imagined.
Bang for the buck Affordability is definitely something that IUP is known for. If you want a good education for a price that won't break the bank, this is a good option for you. Also, the faculty here is really for the students, and if you want to attend any conferences or are part of clubs, there's usually some sort of financial aid available along with general scholarships.
Am enjoying being here Honestly, IUP's atmosphere surprised me. It seems like a small, unassuming school but there's so much going on and so many great people to meet and opportunities to pursue if you're just willing to look for them. There's always something going on and things to get involved in, with a lot of options as far as clubs, intramural sports, and student organizations. You definitely won't be bored at IUP.
Am learning a lot I am a double major in Art Education and Spanish, and am completely in love with both the departments. The staff is fairly awesome, and as a general rule very helpful and accessible if you ever need help or have questions. Also, if you're looking for an interesting way to get the same credits as your fellow students outside of that Gen Ed classroom, look into the Robert E. Cook Honors College.

Will enjoy being here There are hundreds of on campus clubs and events, but if you want to leave campus more opportunities await and so does the free bus.
Will learn a lot Students are taught by professors with high levels of education instead of graduate students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is honestly good for every type of student. Anyone who likes to enjoy themselves and is still able to get their work done will truly be glad they selected IUP.
Tips for prospective students One thing that is the key to IUP is joining clubs. There are so many organizations and activities, if you are not involved in ANYTHING it makes it a little more difficult to meet different people. The more organizations you join, the more people you network with. It helps you become more well rounded while being here.
Bang for the buck It is one of the cheapest In-state schools in Pennsylvania which is saying a lot for the fact that it is also the largest State school in Pennsylvania.
Am enjoying being here There are so many students here that you are bound to meet amazing friends that you're sure to have for the rest of your life. You'll also meet some unexpected friends here too. Most students are down to earth and very fun to be around. You can see most students out on the weekends. Although Indiana, PA is a small town with not much to do in it, the night life here is pretty impressive, as far as working with what we have. Pittsburgh is also not too long of a ride away and is always a good idea for a day trip on the weekends.
Am learning a lot The professors that I have had here are eager to help everyone. They prove to really care about the students and most are very enthusiastic about the subjects they are teaching. Of course not all professors are fun and exciting but these professors do seem to care for their students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is ideal for students that are interested in Criminology. They are the 2nd in the nation for this program. If you are a focused and diverse student, this school is ideal for you!
Tips for prospective students Take a visit to the Freshman campus (Punxutawney campust) is a must. This campus is very different from the Main Campus. Also for Freshman try to get housing on campus rather than off campus. Your parents will be happy! : P
Bang for the buck The campus and campus apartments were clean and we had a nice cafeteria. I was pleasantly surprised considering the school was inexpensive. The school also offered van service to take the students shopping to the local Walmart.
Did enjoy being here There were some advantages and disadvantages to attending a school that is remote to other areas. Some of the advantages were that you couldn't go too far off campus and there not a lot of places to party which is good and helped us stay focused. However, the disadvantages were that it was too remote. I wanted to get a job but nothing was in walking distance and there wasn't any entertainment around at all. No movies or extracurriculum activities to do on the weekend. All in all, I had a great experience being on my own and my room mates were pretty cool!
Did learn a lot Attending this school, I did learn a alot. I learned the essence of being a college student and being on your own. It was a big experience for me but a great experience. I think it is a good idea to have the classes next to your school. Since this school is located in the mountains, you don't have to worry about traveling that far. The classes were well paced and I was able understand the curriculum as well as follow it. The teachers were great and were willing to help me when I needed them.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is great for students who do not like big cities or want to get out of the big cities, people who have a passion for culinary, and for students who love small classes and more opportunities to have one-on-one time with the teachers. It is also great for students who want to learn, increase skills, and do the best they can to succeed.
Tips for prospective students If you love small towns and not a whole lot of people, this is a great place for you. You have smaller classes when broken up into groups and more opportunities with the teachers one on one. If you are not interested in cooking what so ever, then main campus may be a better choice for you. If you are interested only in baking; well, you need to learn to accept cooking as well, because you need to learn it in order to be a great baker. If you don't want to be in school long; it is a one year program where you obtain tons of information and get your moneys worth.
Bang for the buck It is a bit pricey for a culinary school, but compared to other culinary schools, it is much cheaper. Financial aid as well as many scholarships have covered the majority of the students attending. Many loans are also available and and do not have to be paid until after graduation. There are many available admission representatives that are more than willing to help any high school senior who wants to attend, but does not have the funds.
Am enjoying being here It is such a small school, that all the students and teachers get to know each other quickly. The environment is very friendly and is a very sociable place. Many activities go on every week for students to participate in as well as many volunteer opportunities. It is a very welcoming place to any new students.
Am learning a lot The teachers are available numerous hours of a day for any student struggling. They push you to ask questions and make sure to give lots of information for everything they do. Tutors are available at no cost and teachers make sure to keep the notes online as well as test reviews and all the information they taught so students can look at it whenever they feel they have a need to. They urge students who are struggling to take notes and they make things as simple as possible to make sure students are learning as much possible. So much information is shared with students, that after a couple weeks...it's amazing how much you learned without even realizing so.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students IUP is a great place for outgoing students. But even if you are shy, it is so easy to meet new people and to come out of your shell. Also, it isn't a huge campus like many people may think. We may have a lot of students, but the classes are all held in a pretty general area so you don't have to worry about ever getting lost!
Tips for prospective students Try and make friends in your classes, because they have a ton of potential for helping you if you ever need it.
Bang for the buck Compared to other schools, I think that our tuition is very reasonable. We have free tutoring, free gyms, and we're not stuck in typical dorms.
Am enjoying being here Everyone here is so friendly. It is very easy to make friends both from classes and from living in the dorms. There are so many opportunities for student activities that there is almost not enough time to go to them all. It is a great, safe place, and also can be a lot of fun!
Am learning a lot Professors work really hard to help you understand what they are teaching. All of my professors so far have interacted with the students to make sure that they are getting the help that they may need with classes. Also, there are a ton of tutoring opportunities that are available if extra help for a class is needed. (These tutoring sessions help a lot!)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students IUP is great for any student. There are so many different options for every person and so many different people. It is a smaller town, but has so much diversity and people from different places and countries.
Tips for prospective students To ensure that you get accepted to IUP, make sure to include the optional items with your application. The personal essay and also the teacher recommendation will help you be accepted.
Bang for the buck The price is definitely, very reasonable for the education and services at the University.
Am enjoying being here I definitely enjoy being at IUP. There are a large variety of classes that students can enroll in and many activities to sign up for around campus. There is always something going on and easy transportation to get to places off campus.
Am learning a lot The classes at Indiana University of Pennsylvania are very interesting. Although there were some classes that I did not think I would like, I ended up being very interested in them and was eager to continue learning more. The professors make the classes interesting and are always there to help when needed.

Tips for prospective students Bring warm clothes for the winter, and make friends while you're here. It helps to not be alone when you have a problem with homework in the middle of the night.
Bang for the buck 'm not sure the cost of the school meets everything that I expected it to. The dorm walls are thin and I feel like more money is spent on the housing than necessary.
Am enjoying being here Being from Texas I wasn't sure if I would like it here, but it ended up being worth it. I am enjoying my year here, including the cold weather.
Am learning a lot I have learned a lot from coming here. I never thought that I would be able to take notes through lectures, but the teachers make it easy and helpful to take notes at the beginning so you can get used to it. And the teachers really are helpful after class hours.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that live in small towns and/or students that have the money to pay for the tuition and suites.
Tips for prospective students Pick a challenging major that you know this school would help you succeed greatly in, picking any major is fine but think about where the degree and the knowledge you obtained will take you. Besides that, make sure you have the money to attend because this school does not give many scholarships
Bang for the buck This school does not give financial aid. The student can receive loans and grants from the state but IUP does not give much money. The cost of living at this school is more than the tuition. Because i am not the richest person in the world and i do rely on scholarships and grants to help me pay for school, this university was VERY VERY disappointing.
Am enjoying being here I do not like being here, i miss the city life and the many people that live there. Although there is a lot of things to do at this school, it cannot compare to the city. If you live where there's not a lot happening then you would like to attend this school.
Am learning a lot I do believe it is because of my major but so far i have not learned very much and i have not been pushed to challenge myself. I think the choice of major has a lot do with the amount of education one would receive at this school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students people who need to have an environment with trees and rocks around them, who crave diversity, and who want a professional to teach them what they're paying to learn.
Tips for prospective students dont take on more than you can handle. there's more to this school than just classes. leave time to relax, and get involved with something. but dont forget that you are paying for an education, so you can't take it too lightly either.
Bang for the buck this place is totally worth it. it's a very decent price, especially for in-state students. everyone teaching you here is an actul professor, and you wont have to worry about still trying to pay off student loans on your death-bed.
Am enjoying being here i love it here. the campus is beautiful, with lots of greenery. just taking a walk through the oak grove to think can melt away enormous amounts of stress.
Am learning a lot sometimes professors don't realize that we haven't learned most of the material yet, and don't explain things in very much detail, making it difficult to grasp certain concepts. but overall, the professors are very willing to share their knowledge with you and answer any questions you might have. you will also learn alot about tolerance and diversity, and they make an easy transistion to living on your own.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who would rather not be in the middle of a huge city.
Tips for prospective students It gets icy and cold in the winter time so make sure you are prepared before fall semester is over.
Bang for the buck Not taking into account room and board, the cost of tuition alone is not much more than some community colleges. Adding in room and board for living on campus is not to bad if you can get some extra help.
Am enjoying being here I love living on campus and being able to do my own thing. The campus is gorgeous and easy to get around by foot. I love feeling like I have my own place that I can temporarily call home.
Am learning a lot The teachers may not be exactly like high school teachers but they allow some freedom. The teachers I have had are willing to spend extra time should a student need help with anything in the course.

Tips for prospective students Bring heavy winter coats for the winter. It's 10 times colder here at IUP than it is at your regular home, if you live in another side of Pennsylvania.
Bang for the buck Tuition is normal, just like what you expect from any state school. If you can't afford IUP financially, and have sought a lot of financial help but can't get any more money, I suggest you apply for scholarships. Cappex.com offers scholarships themselves to help students like us who have financial problems. If you really need the help, you'll look for it.
Am enjoying being here The campus is so huge and it offers a lot for all students. They have a nice, clean and big gym for students to go to. I'm personally always there cause I love to workout. There are also a lot of fun events all over campus, and IUP emails you everyday, a campus digest that tells you where all the fun events are being held at.
Am learning a lot Ever since I've arrived on campus, I've learned numerous things about the people and location itself. IUP is a great university that offers many extracurricular activities for students with many different interests. The professors are great and love it when their students seek help from them. When you ask for help, you put a smile on their faces. The cool thing is that arriving on campus, your just as new as everyone else. The campus is loaded with your future friends. You meet new people almost everyday, and you build great friendships with the people in your classrooms. Students like to make big study groups, so make sure you get yourself in one so that you can get better grades!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students IUP is for someone who wants to escape high school. It is such a drastic change and the campus helps you adapt to life so much better. The town is quaint and the people are friendly. Anyone who wants to enjoy the next four years would love IUP.
Tips for prospective students Expect cold weather in October, but mostly expect amazing unity. The IUP campus is big and holds 14,000 students, but you feel so involved when you are here. Whether you join the paper or just play frisbee with friends in the Oak Grove, you will see how unified the students are.
Bang for the buck You get way more out of the school than you pay for. The tuition is significantly lower than expected for everything we are offered. From the living facilities to the professors, you are paying for a terrific place to be.
Am enjoying being here The environment is peaceful in a rambunctious way. As ridiculous as that may sound, I simply mean that there is a calming effect that the town has, but there is always something going on. Whether you are a artsy person or a thrill seeker, you can always find something to do.
Am learning a lot All of my current professors are very helpful with everything I need. I have plenty of time to ask for help before tests and study. The course load isn't too difficult and there is always help around campus if tutoring is needed.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Meet with your professors if you are struggling or having problems, it's like everyone always says it's not like high school they won't always come to you and say hey you aren't doing so well do you need help. They want you to come to them and show that you care and are trying. They won't turn you away they will do the best they can to help you out and get you to understand, you just have to ask and put forward an effort.
Bang for the buck The tuition is very reasonable at IUP, that was one thing that put me to ease about going to school here. I know my brother is attending college this fall as well and the school he is going to is twice as much if not more than mine is. The only thing i will say is that the new on campus housing is expensive. Don't get me wrong it is extremely nice but pricey. I am living off campus this year and my rent and bills for 2 semesters is about the same or a little less than one semester of on campus living.
Am enjoying being here I can honestly say that IUP is a place I enjoy being. I attended IUP my first semester of my freshman year, I wanted to get away from home and be on my own. I was so excited to be there but then I got really home sick and ended up transferring to a college by my home and went there for the spring. I regretted my decision big time and missed IUP so much. I ended up going back to IUP some weekends to visit because i missed it so much there. It has an amazing atmosphere with amazing people. There is always something to do there and the campus is beautiful. I can't wait for this fall semester to start because I want to be back there so bad. I wish I would have been more involved my first semester that way I wouldn't have become home sick and stayed there the whole time.
Am learning a lot Although I have only attended IUP for one semester I learned a lot. The professors I had were some of the nicest people I have ever met. They not only are extremely smart but they are also very helpful. They have office hours most days of the week but if that doesn't work with your schedule they are very flexible and will figure out something so you can meet with them. Meeting with your professors is something that really helped me to do as well as I did, they pushed me and told me I could do anything I set my mind do no matter how hard it may seem.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This university is great for out-going and intelligent students. If you love the laid back life of the country but the same exciting people as a city, this will be perfect. If you also want to save some money and live more worry-free about debt then this is the choice for you too.
Tips for prospective students If you introduce yourself to everyone in your classes and who live around you you will always have a study partner or someone to share interests with. There are also peer mentors and CA's that will be happy to help you out. Do not be afraid to ask questions, including to your professors. If you show your professor that you really care they will help you more.
Bang for the buck You can pay for your college at a decent cost and not have to worry about paying loans off for the rest of your life for the same education as someone going to a private university.
Am enjoying being here The environment is amazing. The people are very down-to-earth and diverse. You will find your best friends and your otherhalves.
Am learning a lot All of my professors push me to do my best. They offer help at any time of the day. I never used to enjoy Chemistry, let alone do well in it, I was very scared that I wouldn't be able to make it as a physical therapy major. My Chem 111 Professor made Chemistry fun and easy to learn. I made deans list that semester and am continuing to do well in the subject. My Chemistry Professor is the same as the other professors in that aspect; they care a lot.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students this school is great for people who just want to get away from parents, the busy city, or just want to go far but not too far to learn a little more independence. i like it because to me it's a big school but not a big school. the campus may not seem big but there are a lot of people that attend this school and there is always something to do.
Tips for prospective students the campus is very nice. you will meet alot of new people that may end up being your best friend throughout your 4 years. you have alot of options for food like the cafe, folgers which serve pizza, chinese food, starbucks, and quiznos, you have dominos and subway down the street, and you also have the hub food. there are alot of activities to get involved with like SOAR, Red Cross Club, NAACP, dance teams, etc., and different clubs related to your major. a big tip is get involved with alot of things on campus but not too much that you can't manage your school work. make new friends because it will make your college experience go by fast and more fun. communicate with your advisor and professors because they are there to help you, you just have to ask and i think this is probably the biggest tip of them all!!!

Within the residence halls alone there are clubs such as the Residence Hall Council (which is a lot of fun). There are also sports/sporting events, greek life, and clubs such as PRIDE Alliance, SOAR, Anime Club, Art Association, Asian Studies Club, Boxing Club and many more.
Tips for prospective students As always, studying and grades are important, but don't forget to have fun, make friends and experience new things. College is what you make it, always remember to study and get the grade that you want, but grades aren't the only reason you're going to college right? Good grades, new experiences, new friends and fun. Those are your keywords.
Bang for the buck When I was considering IUP I attended an open house in the summer before my junior year in high school. I met the head of my department (Journalism) and when I had him as a professor this spring semester, he recognized me and worked with me to achieve the goals we had discussed nearly two years ago. That's what I call a dedicated professor.
Am enjoying being here The very first day I became great friends with my roommate. I was very lucky. Then I began making more friends, getting involved in clubs and such. Trust me when I say that there is something for everyone. If you like football you can either join the team or watch the games. If you're into ultimate frisbee IUP has a team waiting for you. Also, the campus is within walking distance of great fast food and a grocery store. AND there's a starbucks on campus that you can use Flex dollars (basically IUP money) rather than cash or debit/credit.
Am learning a lot All of the professors that I have had made sure to make the class interesting as well as informative. Each professor made it nearly impossible to fail his/her class. That's not to say that the classes are easy. The classes really challenged me to learn more and study harder, but it is way worth it. Also, the mandatory classes such as English and History aren't the same boring classes from high school. My professors made sure that what we learned in class could be applied to life in some way. This helped me to stay focus and learn more.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students My major, Music Education, which is a very rigorous schedule by the way, has not left me much opportunity to get to know much about students outside of my major. What I do know is; again, if music is your forte, you can not go wrong at IUP. Outside of the classroom, you also have the opportunity to participate in the Marching Band, The Legend, along with performing at football games, and various campus events, this band travels all over the U.S. and in the past has performed in Paris France by invitation. It is a rewarding experience and great way to make friends and have some outstanding travel experiences.
Tips for prospective students Study, stay busy with constructive activities, get involved in a fraternity that does charity and volunteer work on and off campus. Take advantage off and enjoy the many performances that are available on campus; concert and theatrical performances by students, professors, and professional entertainers alike. Get the most for your money regarding; education and time, and also have fun, but, BE SAFE. don't let things cloud your own better judgment.
Bang for the buck Regarding my major, Music Education, IUP by far offers the best education for the money, by comparison to other colleges in Pennsylvania.
Am enjoying being here IUP is in a beautiful setting, but also relatively close to grocery, fast food restaurants, and department stores. Even if you do not have a car, the campus runs a shuttle hourly to met you needs to go into town. Although IUP has been tagged as a party school by many, and like anywhere else, you can party, it is up to you to get involved in constructive extra-curricular activities; of which there are many.
Am learning a lot Indiana University of Pennsylvania indeed has a highly accredited school of music. I am privileged to attend there, and be taught by some of the most educated and talented professors that music education has to offer.
