Categories Comments Campus Safety It's Irvine. That is pretty self-explanatory.
Clubs and Activities Again, great clubs! But there aren't very many activities and they seem to conflict with a lot of students schedules which can be a bummer because for the most part, they look fun!
Bang for the buck For the amount you pay, the quality of education makes the money spent into a great investment. I have had very adequate professors that taught me well and I have had exceptional professors that I admire immensely. Never anything less in my experience.
What to do for fun IVC has a variety of clubs that appeal to every background and every major! And the location of IVC is conveniently close to UCI and a lot of the dining centers. So there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to hangout at after or in between classes where you are surrounded by other college students.
Food and Dining Their food is atrocious and their A-1 variety of snacks is IVC's only redeeming quality when it comes to food. There is an eating area, but it gets busy and loud since it's a rather compact room. There are plenty of outside sitting areas which can be a pleasant experience.
Dorm Life No dorm life. It's a community college.
Academic Rigor I'm in the honors program so I have had a few very rigorous classes at IVC. The general classes can be very easy as look as you're time efficient and an adequate academic. Definitely do research before signing up for a class though.
Tips for prospective students Utilize your counselors but do not depend on them to inform you on what you need. Do your own research. In addition, ratemyprofessor is really handy so research your professors when registering for classes.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College is an extremely diverse and exceptional community college open to students of all majors and educations. Not only are there passionate faculty who really care about the material and their students but there are equally driven students as their counterparts. Irvine Valley College fosters a safe and improving learning environment for all members attending.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. Campus Police are available at all times.
Greek Life none.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs that students can be a part of. The school hosts a Club Rush usually at the beginning of the school year where all the clubs come out and teach students about their club, requirements, and how to sign up. It is the best way to get involved for Community Services.
Great for these types of students It is great out of high school students who are looking to transfer to a university after they complete the requirements. Also, great for students who are wanting to pursue a career in Chemistry, Healthcare, Sciences, Engineering, and Math.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It is located in a very very safe City, Irvine, CA.
Bang for the buck Community college is more affordable than a Univeristy. Irvine Valley College was a good school and my money was well spent here. They provide many free services as well such as EOPS which helps give you free text books, free tutoring, and the health care office provides you with any immediate health issues.
What to do for fun To have fun at IVC you should play sports or attending their sporting events. You can be involved with ASIVC and be a part of all the fun events including homecoming, senior day, halloween spooktacular, college fairs, transfer fairs, etc. Also, make new friends in your classrooms.
Food and Dining They have a cafeteria that has delicious food. They cook it right in front of you if you make an order. There is also food for on-the-go. I like their breakfast sandwiches and lunch menu.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor The science and math courses here are very rigorous. You will need to put in lots of study time.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for classes on-time. Attend every lecture. Go to office-hours. Sign up for clubs. Be a part of ASIVC. Go to free tutoring services.
In three sentences I loved the professors at this school. Classes were fun and I learned so much. The student services building is very helpful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is well lit with plenty of security in a city that's rated as extremely safe.
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities Minimal, but there are a few out there.
Great for these types of students Those who prefer a more intimate learning environment. Students looking to save some money during the first two years.
Bang for the buck Incredibly cheap and there is a lot of financial aid available as well.
What to do for fun There are a few clubs, but the main goal of this school is to get in, get out, and transfer to a 4-year school.
Food and Dining One cafeteria which is alright and a coffee stand outside. Lots of food options in the neighboring areas.
Dorm Life None as this is a community college.
Academic Rigor Some classes are harder than others, but for the most part it feels like a continuation of high school.
Tips for prospective students In many ways classes can be even easier than they are in high school. As a result it's very easy to slack off and not treat it seriously. Remember that you're here to work and learn and you'll do quite well.
In three sentences A small, intimate community college that results in a bit of a smaller high school feeling. The class sizes are small and the teachers are helpful.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Great classes that are WAY cheaper than at a university. A lot of UCO students take gen ed classes at IVC
Food and Dining Cafeteria looks alright but I've never eaten there.
Academic Rigor The classes are more difficult than the university I went to last semester. The teachers really want to prepare their students so they are ready to enter into a university when they transfer.
Tips for prospective students Join a club. It may just be community college but if you want to transfer clubs will help.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College is a really great Community College. The teachers are really dedicated and the classes aren't too impacted. Also, our Speech and Debate team seems to be a pretty big deal.

Food and Dining I love the Asian food here. Yes, I say I LOVE the food in the cafeteria.
Dorm Life You can live at home or rent with classmates.
Academic Rigor The classes are hard and the professors are very strict, however, you learn much more than at the four year university.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and play hard.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our police station is close on campus and if someone turns your stuff in they call you! If you want you have the chance to get an escort to evening classes.
Bang for the buck Prices rise every year...
What to do for fun Club it! If you get into the Honors Program, Just do it. -Nike, you can hang out in the Honors Lounge like a boss.
Food and Dining Our people are top notch, I'm not wild about prices, I watch my dollars more than Scrooge McDuck, but the food is worth is.
Dorm Life We don't have dorms.
Academic Rigor My teachers are pretty alright, but I'm lazy so...
Tips for prospective students Be prepared, for now we are a smoking campus, so embrace your inner casino.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus police driving around school campus to give students a ride to their classes if it's far away. They will also walk you to your car if it's late at night and you're afraid something will happen. There are call boxes located at every parking lot that you can call for help. There hasn't been a crime reported there which means it's super safe.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs people sign up for and there's sports and an asb like government. A lot of people join the honors society because it will give colleges another look at you and give you an advantage when you register for classes.
Great for these types of students Students that are fresh out of high school and don't know what they will major in. Adults that want to get back to school to learn more about their subject. Adults that want to get back to try to get a higher edge in their jobs. High school students that want to have some college courses out of the way when they go into a university. (Classes are free if you're a high school student) Community college isn't limited on anyone it's what your willing to learn.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ivc doesn't really have any traditions since it's a community college. But every year there are transfer and job fairs that come out and recruit college students. Also there is a Halloween maze where all the students and some teachers dress up for some free candy.
Bang for the buck Paying your first two years at ivc won't break the bank. Each unit is 46 dollars compared to universities that cost around 100-200 a unit. Ivc is a great way to start of your college years because no one is gonna ask which school you first started out from.
What to do for fun There's really nothing to do since you're in irvine but there are other places to go eat that center around ivc. Also there is the spectrum that is about 10 mins from there.
Food and Dining The food in the cafeteria is really good. Everything is hand made and there's a menu you can choose from that they will make really quick. There's everything from soup to chicken tenders to Chinese food. They have everything you can possibly want.
Dorm Life We don't have dorms so I can't really answer that.
Academic Rigor The teachers are wonderful but not all teachers are great. There are some that won't even curve your tests based on class average and some will. It is always best to keep researching the teachers you have and if they don't meet up to your standards you have to try twice as hard to get the grade you want.
Tips for prospective students Not all teachers are good some are bad you just want to do some research on the teacher you get. You don't have to come in with a major because when your in a community college, you can change majors as much as you want and discover the new possibilities that there are out there. This school is well accredited not only in California but also in out of state schools too.
In three sentences It's a wonderful school to go to if you don't know what your major is. All the teachers are very caring and will help you succeed in your life. Many will go out of their ways to help you pass the class and will be understanding of your problems.

Categories Comments Food and Dining On campus cafeteria's food is pretty good, my only complaint about it is the high prices. Don't forget to show your ASIVC sticker to cashier because it gets you 10 or 15% off your purchase. Coffee cart on campus is also good (their Java Chip blended drink is the best!!), but they are way to expensive. Go to Paradise Perks across the street instead. Better coffee plus they also offer a discount for IVC students plus a rewards card.
Dorm Life none
Academic Rigor Some classes are super easy, but in most classes you have to put in a bit of effort to do well in them.
Tips for prospective students Be on top of your graduation/transfer requirements and track all paperwork/transcripts. Admissions is useless for assisting students and the counselors are decent (Mr. Melendez is the most useful one of them all, but he primarily works with students from the Honors Program), so it is up to you to figure out your schedule. Also, don't be afraid to bother Admissions and don't let them push you around (bring your parents with if you have to). I have had mostly amazing teachers and 1 or 2 some not so amazing teachers. Rate My Professor is probably your best bet for determining which teachers you want to take. Do extra curricular activities. IVC is full of them!! Many of the clubs will take you places out of state (Model UN) or out of the country (Debate) at almost no cost and you! Traveling with these groups is not only fun, it also looks great on your resume and transfer applications. The Honors Program also offers tons of undergraduate research opportunities and great resources to help you in completing research, so don't be afraid to pursue them.
In three sentences Great teachers and tons of extra curricular activities. Nice campus with good student resources (library, labs, various research tools). Commuter school.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Join a few clubs or join ASIVC (student government).
Food and Dining There's a nice coffee stand in front of the Student Center. It's not too expensive and students enjoy grabbing a coffee before they go to class.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life at Irvine Valley College.
Academic Rigor It depends on what classes you take and how much work your willing to put in the class. Students will need to study independently and are expected to come to lecture.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students who have the intent of transferring to a 4 year school should consider taking some summer classes. The more units a student has, the more priority he or she will have when it comes to registration. Classes fill up fast so an earlier registration time is key.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College has one of the most successful transfer rates in California. Many students have transferred to Stanford, Cornell, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC and more. It is a place for academically driven students with the hopes of saving money for their lower division classes and pursuing their upper division classes at a 4 year university.

Academic Rigor Irvine Valley College has an honors program, but even the regular courses are rigorous. The professors ensure to get students involved with active class participation, study groups, tutoring, one-on-one meetings outside of class hours and assistance online via Blackboard. There are numerous associate and certificate programs to choose from in various fields that are in much demand in the employment field.

In three sentences Irvine Valley College (IVC) prepares you the best in their certificate and associate programs. You will definitely have a great chance of getting into the 4-year university you wish to as IVC has the #1 transfer rate in Orange County, and #2 in the entire state of California. Food and Dining Food is pretty basic here. Your basic sandwiches, burritos, and rice dishes.
Dorm Life There aren't any dorms on campus. However, the campus life itself is pretty enjoyable. I especially enjoy spending my time studying in the Student Success Center.
Tips for prospective students Start your college writing and mathematics classes early. They are both basic requirements for most college transfers. The sooner you finish them, the sooner you can focus on your major requirements.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As long as you know how to kick a guy between his legs when in danger, you are fine. In other words, you are fine.
Greek Life Same as above. Finding genuine people takes time but it's possible here.
Clubs and Activities Since anyone who carries out club activities are driven by their interest and passion (no one does it for it's good on my graduate school resume/work resume/etc.), it's fun to hang with any clubs even though you are not even interested in that area. Someone's passion can definitely influence you to the point where you can experience what it likes to be passionate about certain subject.
Great for these types of students Students who would like to save money, keep up a good GPA, and really enjoy first two years of college without being too stressed out about studying. Mainly, students who would like to know what is college: you experience for yourself and you also have two years to observe(?) and learn from your friends getting butchered at their colleges/universities as they over-party and fail exams. Know that if you transfer to UCs, your GPA automatically resets to 4.0, where as your friends get what they get.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Geese seldom walks around the grass area during the day and bunnies hop around at night as students just pass them by.
What to do for fun Nail shop is right across from campus and Irvine is full of restaurant choices. Irvine Spectrum is located within 10 minutes. Many beaches are within the 30 minutes of driving.
Food and Dining Though there are holes here and there in cafeteria in terms of service and quality of food, student government gave much effort by holding meetings with cafeteria owners. Currently, more students visit cafeteria and I seldom go, too, for their chicken vegetable wrap with pasta salad as a side, available for less than $5.00.
Dorm Life No dormitory whatsoever, so no ratings. However, many apartment complexes surrounds the school campus.
Academic Rigor Given that it is a community college, not all students are passionate about where they are, the school they are attending, and the classes they are having. However, some professors will push you through to make sure you learn the material necessary for any future preparation.
Tips for prospective students Join student government; many opportunities and benefits such as early registration before other students are given. Join Honors Program; this program aids you through if you are considering transfer. Tutor on campus at either Math Center or Learning Center; great benefits also awaits you while it gives you a chance to be more involved at school.
In three sentences Place where you can find your favorite professor for life is this place. Despite of being community college, Irvine Valley College offers numerous hidden benefits to those who look for it. Perhaps, this is the best way to start college life by saving money and have rather relaxed beginning as a freshman.

It is not the friendliest campus since most people are looking to go to class and get out of there. The teachers are usually helpful and understanding but you must put in the work to succeed.

Great for these types of students Serious, determined, motivated, looking for a good school with good professors.
What to do for fun Go to sushilicious in the plaza across the street.
Tips for prospective students Buy parking permits ahead of time.
In three sentences IVC is a wonder school. Their campus isn't too big or too small. Their books are a bit pricey because they use IVC edition books making it hard to find online for a cheaper price. The staff and professors are always really helpful. The school is in Irvine, ca what more can you ask for? Nice campus, nice staff, and even nicer weather.

Food and Dining Great cafeteria!
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor It is a community college so the course materials are not necessarily at a university level but can still be challenging if you do not put in the effort.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to register whenever you can to guarantee you can get the classes you need.
In three sentences The teachers honestly care about your success. The classes are challenging yet easy to succeed. The campus is very easy to navigate.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's always a police presence on campus, makes you feel safe as a student.
Greek Life None!
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs to join, many are geared towards specific majors.
Great for these types of students Those who like to study and want to gear up for their major should come here.
Bang for the buck Pay money, take classes, get credits towards a transfer or degree. What more could you ask for in a a community college?
What to do for fun There is a primary Asian community in Irvine, so there are plenty of interesting restaurants such as Japanese revolving sushi bars and Korean tofu houses. Other than eating, there's not much in the way of fun around campus.
Food and Dining Just a standard cafeteria on campus, even has stuff like a make your own omelette menu.
Dorm Life No dorms to speak of.
Academic Rigor Like I said, it's a mixed bag when it comes to difficulty. A professor can either make your student life enjoyable and rewarding, or full of projects and work. Choose carefully.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to check out which professors are teaching what classes before going through with registration. Some of them, such as the English professors, can be ridiculously tough on students. Also, IVC will not take an AP score of less than 4 for credit, so be careful.
In three sentences IVC has the biggest campus I've seen at a community college yet, giving it a very spacious feel. It has up-to-date facilities that feel like they were made just for the students. Professors can be a mixed bag when it comes to difficulty, so it doesn't hurt to research professors before choosing classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police here, in general, are very nice and accommodating. At night, you can schedule for one of them to escort you to your car. They also offer a vast amount of information about legal questions.
Clubs and Activities Unfortunately, there is not a huge variety of clubs for students to join and it is hard to start a club. The clubs that are established though are very fun.
Bang for the buck The class prices have gone up since last year but compared to four year universities they are still a great deal!
What to do for fun There isn't much to do that would be considered fun. I mainly enjoy looking at the bulletin boards, joining clubs, and chatting with friends in between classes. There are also productions put on by the performing arts center that student can attend.
Food and Dining The food here is a little expensive, but fairly reasonable. I have had a great experience with the food but some friends tell me they feel sick after eating here. I like that the campus offers a variety of different foods.
Dorm Life There is no option to dorm at IVC because it is a small school. There are apartments right next to the campus that look very nice but tend to be a little expensive. Students at the school also list out rooms for you to rent.
Academic Rigor The general education classes are pretty straightforward and do not require more than a high school level of education. Classes that are not under the general education (things that require prerequisites) are more difficult the more specific they are.
Tips for prospective students Visit your academic counselor at least once a semester, try for two times. Take a minimum of 15 units per semester, but if you plan on taking units in the summer then you can reduce your fall and spring schedule to 12 units. Do not skip classes, this will hurt your grade.
In three sentences A great place to go if you need inexpensive classes and teachers who care. In general, the campus is small and clean, with friendly staff. The only downside is that quite a bit of people smoke here.

Great for these types of students This campus is excellent for students who want to save money and transfer to a UC or CSU. Majority of the kids need to get a good gpa in order to be accepted to these colleges, so everybody is competitive and wants to truly do their best and excell.
What to do for fun Down the street you can go relax at the outlets, have lunch, shop or watch a movie. Also, the school offers a lounge room, in which, any student could enjoy activities such as ping pong, video games and fooseball.
Food and Dining The food is okay. Relatively expensive but they cook the meals right in front of you and the service is great.
Dorm Life This school is a community college; therefore, doesn't offer on campus living.
Academic Rigor Everybody there is wanting to become an outstanding student. The teachers are always challenging the student with in class assignments, critical thinking and projects! If you feel like you're struggling, ask a teacher for help. They emphasize on the fact that they're there to help you!
Tips for prospective students Talk to a counselor about your academic plan, so you don't waste any time taking unnecessary classes. Apply for financial aid programs available, you could end up saving $800, like me! Become an honor student, you'll most likely be accepted to the school you want to transfer to.

Clubs and Activities The amount of clubs and activities is relatively small at Irvine Valley College, but they are really fun to participate in and help you make lots of friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an amazing outdoor theater that is secluded and great to eat lunch at. It is located by the Performing Art's Center
Bang for the buck Community college is generally much cheaper than a regular four-year University, but Irvine Valley College makes school cheaper by providing used books to help you save on textbook costs.
What to do for fun There are many sports events to attend, along with musical performances and plays.
Food and Dining The food is always fresh and prepared in front of you. Great service and even better food.
Dorm Life There are no Dorms at Irvine Valley College.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you take the courses range from easy to very difficult. Always check on ratemyprofessor.com before signing up for any classes, but take a chance on professors even if they have a bad rating.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you speak with a counselor before signing up for classes so that you know which classes to focus on for your major. Once you sign up for your classes make sure to look on a campus map so that you do not get lost on your first day. Finally, make sure to take some fun classes so that you are not studying all the time.
In three sentences This school is very user friendly and has a helpful staff that can answer all of your questions. Irvine Valley College has a wide variety of classes for most majors. Also, Irvine Valley College has many extracurricular classes, such as sports and music programs, that make college even more fun.

Clubs and Activities There are a wide range of different clubs you can join. Everyone in the clubs are always very welcoming. I decided to join the popular and well-known club, Circle K.
Great for these types of students This college is great for students who wish to transfer to a four year university or college. Any student who is undecided or wants to change majors can do so here. This is also a great place for older adults who want to change career paths as it offers a wide range of class schedules.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year when class starts again, during welcome week there are welcome back activities. There is also free food available for those who purchase the sticker.
Bang for the buck IVC classes and tuition is a great deal cheaper than four year universities or colleges.
What to do for fun If you join a club, there are always events or activities you can do.
Food and Dining There is a cafeteria and a little cafe, strategically placed on opposite sides of campus. There is also a little coffee bar cart in the middle of cafeteria and cafe, so if you ever want a quick snack or drink before class you can go there. For the most part, all the eateries are not too crowded and the line moves quickly.
Dorm Life Since IVC is a community college there are no dorms, but there are many houses and apartments for rent around the area.
Academic Rigor IVC has a range variety of classes. For the most part, the classes are not extremely difficult as long as you do your homework, study, and pay attention in class.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to utilize the library and computer labs as they are extremely helpful. You should purchase the ASIVC sticker as there are many event opportunities. Look around for different clubs or activities to join, as it will help you adjust to campus life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus Safety is great. There are actual cops everywhere making sure everything is in order. The campus police building is a little far from the campus itself, however, but they were very nice and care about not just their jobs, but us.
Great for these types of students Irvine Valley College is great for the types of students that want to excel in college and make a great future for themselves, and are ready to learn but are not able to afford a big-time, fancy university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have not yet began classes yet, so I am not aware of any unusual traditions or locations on campus, except for the registration system on My Site, located at the school's website. I do not like the fact that students can add classes only by registration appointments. It decreases the chances of actually continuing our educational careers! It is not fair. If I were in charge of the registrars' office, or which ever department handled the ability of students to add classes, I would change that system immediately.
Bang for the buck As a transfer student, IVC is NOT affordable. However, compared to other colleges, it is worth spending your money. Once a resident, it'll be a total breeze and it will definitely be an investment for your future.
What to do for fun The Game Room is always the best part to relax and get away from the stress of class work. Also, the theater is a unique spot where one can separate from the college stress. The creativity found in the theater is unique and out of this world, hence the separation of the stress college brings.
Food and Dining When I visited the campus, the food smelled delicious, so I am assuming it tastes great!
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor I have not yet began classes in IVC, but I have been told that it is a very helpful college when it comes to academics and help needed.
Tips for prospective students I suggest applying early in order to avoid being scheduled a late registration date. If not, classes will be filled up, thus making the adding of classes process a total lottery.
In three sentences This college is a good place to go studying. It is affordable (for residents of California at least) and will have professors that might go the extra mile to help students succeed. I can't wait to start classes.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Definitely cheaper than a 4-year university!
What to do for fun Talk to fellow students!
Food and Dining Cafeteria food is pretty gross. I would not recommend it unless you've just gotten out of a 4 hour class and are short on time.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life. This is a community College.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are pretty challenging and the teachers are strict. Effort goes a long way!
Tips for prospective students Always check ratemyprofessor.com &ask other students for opinions before picking your classes! Always sign up for tutoring centers that apply to your classes.
In three sentences Irvine Valley college professors are pretty passionate about their subject. Most are strict with what they want you to do, but they give you a great view on what you have to do to receive an A. Irvine Valley College's Campus is very clean!

Categories Comments Campus Safety IVC is generally a safe campus, as the Irvine Police is constantly patrolling around campus, along with the on-campus safety office.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs at IVC, starting with the AS Student Government. They plan and execute events, and from there come many other clubs, as the MSA or the Pre-Medical Club.
What to do for fun Need a break? Come to the game room in the Student Center to play games and socialize. The gym is also available to play basketball or workout.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is a nice place to go to grab food, as they range from burgers to burritos to pizza. There is also a place on campus to grab coffee or a quick breakfast or snack. Not feeling the cafeteria food? There are also many places near campus to go eat.
Dorm Life No Dorms, but there are apartments near by.
Academic Rigor Academically, IVC is excellent. Even though it is hard to attain classes like all colleges nowadays, IVC still hold the #1 transfers in the OC and #3 in the state. Teachers are generally kind and know how to teach, in order for you to learn the material well.
Tips for prospective students One major tip would be to apply for financial aid opportunities. Secondly, as all community colleges are full, try joining the sports team or AS student body to be given priority registration. Lastly, study hard and visit a counselor to reach your goals quickly.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College is one of the calmest and cleanest campuses I have seen, with great places to study, such as the beautiful library or the Business Tech building with iMacs. This college offers many different classes and extracurricular activities, like clubs. Students also often need a break from studying, so the cafeteria is a place to grab food, or the game room is the place to socialize.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Community college is great for students on a budget who can't or don't want to spend a lot of money on their first two years of college. Irvine Valley College is a small laid-back kind of college with students of all kinds.
Bang for the buck IVC is definitely affordable. Its much less expensive than a university or a private school. Don't forget to apply for financial aid and academic scholarships, they can really help a student out!
Food and Dining The cafeteria is great for a small portioned meal. They offer sandwiches, ice tea, and other snacks. There are also coffee carts located around campus, which come in handy for evening classes!
Dorm Life There aren't any dorms, it's a 2-year community college.
Academic Rigor If you apply yourself, attend class regularly, and study the right way it's really easy to get good grades! All my teachers have been awesome and they make the subject matter easy to understand.
Tips for prospective students I would advise incoming students to take Career Exploration (Counseling 102) if they aren't sure of what they want to major in. It's a great course that teaches students how to research interesting careers and which jobs will suit them. Also, complete the required math courses as soon as possible to ensure a timely transfer.
In three sentences A great school to get an associates degree or to transfer to a university for a bachelor's. IVC has a great open environment in a safe city. And there are many majors and interesting courses to choose from.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always alert, and close by. Its Irvine( very safe).
Clubs and Activities Clubs advertise monthly.
Great for these types of students Those who want to transfer
Bang for the buck Much cheaper than University for General Education.
What to do for fun There are many things to do, including activity room. Transfer agreements with alot of Universities
Food and Dining Never eaten there.
Academic Rigor From what I know, there is more rigor, and skill needed. You go here if you really want to transfer, not party.
Tips for prospective students There is more room for enrollment at IVC, than other colleges, got to take almost all courses I needed. Many other colleges have long wating lists in the OC
In three sentences It is the best community College to go to in Orange County. Teachers are the best in all of OC.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is very safe. The police are very friendly and have no problem escorting you to your car late at night or keeping you company as you walk to class. The campus is well-lighted at night as well and there is little to no crime or theft on campus.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities The club rush is lively, but there is little club activity otherwise.
Great for these types of students Students who work and/or have little money can work towards an AA degree or transferable degrees.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are none to my knowledge.
Bang for the buck Community College still saves you a ton of money even though the fees have been going up.
What to do for fun The Laguna Beach is about half an hour away and Irvine Spectrum is a stones throw from campus.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is very nice if a little expensive. There are also many food options very close by.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life, the majority of the student body commutes from home or another college dorm.
Academic Rigor The work load depends on the type of classes you take, but most classes are not too difficult. I was able to take 6 UC-transferable classes this semester while holding a part time job and managed to get all As and one B.
Tips for prospective students Counselors are okay to visit and check up with, but do your transfer/degree research largely by yourself. You can find up to date information online. Also, talk to your professors about your career choices as they are also usually very reliable sources about the field.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College has a friendly atmosphere and the staff for the most part are very nice. However, their transfer counseling center needs work because they tend to be unhelpful and just direct you to a computer. Also, the counselors need to have up-to-date information and should not guess when they are unable to answer a question because then they misinform and often cause trouble for a student's transfer status.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. Officers are readily available and constantly moving about campus.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities Clubs aren't very present on campus and joining one isn't a particularly enriching experience. Very few are truly motivated towards their prescribed goal and many members are just there to put it on their transfer application.
Great for these types of students Busy part-timers and motivated students. Students willing to work towards a higher college but cannot afford it.
Bang for the buck Though the price per unit is rising, IVC is an amazing deal for UC-transferrable classes.
What to do for fun Lots of dining options outside of school- from fun revolving sushi to nice sit-down restaurants. Nearby places to have fun also include Pirikuura, karaoke, hiking and the beach is about half an hour away.
Food and Dining Lots of cheap options around the school. School cafeteria has hot, fresh food that really isn't too bad. Prices are medium.
Dorm Life None here.
Academic Rigor Really low. Some teachers in more major based classes expect hard work but most others have very low standards of work for students. It's very possible to still receive an A on a general ed paper without sticking to your thesis, using sentence fragments and poor grammar.
Tips for prospective students Stay on track for all your transfer opportunities-- there are plenty but it's way easy to let them all fly past you and before you know it, you'll end up spending more time here for more than you need. Pay attention to what the school you want to transfer to wants from you and complete it in a timely manner. Counseling services are not helpful and lack communication between this school and its sister school Saddleback College can really mess you up. There are many sob stories of students being told to take classes they didn't need and not figuring out until it's too late.
In three sentences This campus is safe and friendly. Teachers are helpful but don't expect high quality work. As a community college, many of the classes expectations of students in somewhat low and can be demotivating.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun I talk with friends and draw buildings around campus. There are great places for picnics too.
Food and Dining The food here is very tasty, they make it right in front of you. The price is a little high but the food is good.
Dorm Life I do not dorm so I am not aware of this feature.
Academic Rigor The classes depend upon the teachers. Some teachers are fantastic and push a student to achieve the best grade. Others, are very horrible and are of not use to the student.
Tips for prospective students Students who procrastinate should not take online classes. Students who are dedicated and have mixed work schedules should take online classes.
In three sentences Over all, Irvine Valley College is a great environment for dedicated students looking to transfer or complete their AA.

Categories Comments Campus Safety In terms of safety, Irvine is pretty hard to beat. The only danger is traffic, as some students seem to have obtained their drivers licenses from the top of a cereal box.
Greek Life IVC does not have any official fraternities or sororities. However, there are some frats and sororities in nearby UCI that accept community college students as well.
Clubs and Activities IVC has a good selection of clubs, and some of them may even offer scholarships as incentive to join. Club fairs are in presentation at the start of every semester.
Great for these types of students As long as you can study, are willing to learn, check the ratemyprofessor reviews, and do not skip class (seriously, DO NOT skip class), IVC is a good place to start. Keep your GPA up, and you should be able to transfer to a UC.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus IVC seems to have an infestation of people who have poor taste in cars (I'm sure you've heard of the term ricer), and an even more laughable driving ability. Join their ranks, and you can kiss any chance of you losing your virginity goodbye.
Bang for the buck Class sizes are quite small compared to most other colleges, and most teachers are decent. Take the reviews on ratemyprofessor.com VERY seriously, though.
What to do for fun I am assuming that most of you who are reading this are from either Irvine and its neighboring cities, so all I can recommend is whatever you enjoy doing. There are numerous clubs affiliated with the school as well, so it is a good idea to look into those avenues as well.
Food and Dining Decent food, and there are many good restaurants located in nearby shopping plazas.
Dorm Life IVC is a commuter school. There are apartments right next to IVC, but they are in no way affiliated with the school. If you're looking for dorm life, you're barking up the wrong tree.
Academic Rigor College (yes, even community college) is what you make of it. As long as you study and don't procrastinate, there should be no problems. Sign up for your classes as early as possible, because they fill up FAST.
Tips for prospective students Study... obviously. Buy a parking permit if you plan on driving your own vehicle, as the surrounding area does not have parking for IVC students. Unless of course, you don't mind having to pick up your car at a police impound lot.
In three sentences Great school if you're looking to transfer, get an associates degree, a certificate, or simply just to expand your knowledge. Unlike at research universities where some professors are only in it for research money, IVC has a higher proportion of teachers who genuinely enjoy teaching. As far as learning experience goes, IVC is hard to beat for the money you pay.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus where local authorities are very responsible.
Greek Life None that I know of.
Clubs and Activities IVC offers a wide variety of clubs and activities that will help you succeed and network with people with similar goals.
Great for these types of students Lots of dance classes if you want to meet new and fun people. Also it is a great and fun way to shed some extra pounds.
Bang for the buck IVC offers 1 unit field trip classes that are very fun and I think it is the best bang for your buck. Some of the places you go are Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Big Sur, Grand Canyon etc.
What to do for fun The gym is always fun as well as the student quad where many events take place.
Food and Dining The school cafeteria is great! There are lots of varieties of choices for breakfast and lunch to make sure you have enough energy for the rest of your day. The food served is also better than average cafeteria food.
Dorm Life None available.
Academic Rigor This is probably one of the most intense community colleges that I have been to because there are many UCI professors teaching there. They expect a lot from you and there is no room for anyone to slack off.
Tips for prospective students One thing I would say about this school is to expect to learn a lot from all of your classes. Keep an open mind and always be prepared for class.
In three sentences This school is efficient, organized, and very academically involved. Not only does it care for its students but they also make sure that you succeed. The professors there are all very dedicated and will help you whenever they can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety at Irvine Valley College in my experience has always been fair. They patrol the campus making sure the students stay safe as well as obey the campus rules. Campus officers are always friendly and understanding assuming students comply to pertaining circumstances and communicate respectfully as they would to any person of authority.
Clubs and Activities Irvine Valley College has many clubs and after class activities that any student may participate in. The college on occasion will have events with local colleges and their representatives as well as some events involving free concerts in order to have the students get to know each other.
Great for these types of students Irvine Valley College is a great school for students who really want to learn. The teachers are passionate for having their students be educated and truly understand the material. The academic character of most attending students is a genuine desire to learn and further their education.
Bang for the buck The tuition rate at Irvine Valley College is fair, but much like all other schools the prices are increasing constantly. The education in my opinion is the best a student will receive from a transfer school in the Orange County area. With rising prices at all college level educational facilities its hard not to wonder if education will be worth the financial cost in the near future.
What to do for fun Aside from after school activities that occasionally happen, there isn't much on campus to do. The area Irvine Valley College is location in offers much to local students. Most of the things college students at IVC do for fun include going out to eat at the local restaurants, hanging out at local specialty drink stores such as Boba tea or coffee as well as go shop at local stores.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is very good. The quality and price of the food in the cafeteria is by far one of my favorite things at IVC. There is so much food to choose from with such diversity at this campus.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not applicable as it is a two year transfer school. Irvine Valley College students have the option to rent local apartments in the area if they need to, but there is no housing that is offered through the college directly.
Academic Rigor The teachers really spend their time with each student to ensure that they understand the materials being taught. Adequate time is given for all school assignments and class lectures, allowing the students to really understand all of the material prior to the teachers moving on to new subjects and concepts.
Tips for prospective students I recommend for prospective students planning to attend Irvine Valley College to meet with a counselor first and foremost. By doing so the student will be able to know what classes they will need to take for requirements in their education plan.
In three sentences Irvine Valley College is a school for those who want to focus in on studies. The campus is very clean and the teachers really enjoy what they do.

Categories Comments Campus Safety irvine is one of the safest cities in the world. for students taking night classes, there is a security guard available to escort you to your car or bus stop. the most reported crime is theft.
Clubs and Activities there are numerous clubs and activities for students to partake in, and there are club fairs in the beginning of the semester for students to check out what they may be interested in. sometimes students are too passionate and stand outside all day long with posters or flyer's promoting their club or group, urging everyone and anyone to join. i am frequently bombarded with people from green peace trying to get me to join them and donate money. i've learned to just walk briskly and say i am late for work.
Great for these types of students community college is really for everyone. young ones just out of high school not sure of their next step, or just wanting to get some general ed classes knocked out before investing big bucks for college. there are older individuals who are just bored and want to attend classes for their own enrichment, or middle aged people who need credit for a job they hold.
Bang for the buck i am planning on transferring to a 4-year university in the fall, and the past three years i have saved working and attending ivc has been most beneficial. not only will i have saved thousands of dollars, but i am confident i am ready to succeed in my future classes. community college is an excellent transition from high school to a university.
What to do for fun i am an artsy girl; i work in a flower shop and absolutely love designing flowers. i am also into the music scene, and often check out local bands playing in coffee shops or music festivals. i enjoy getting inspired through viewing art, listing to live music, and conversing with other artists i meet. the oc is filled with diversity, and there are so many interesting people to meet and things to do depending on what you like. there are several beaches close by, and plenty of nature trails to enjoy.
Food and Dining cafeteria prices are reasonable, and there is a popular coffee stand called the drip. orange county people like to eat healthy and there are always fresh fruits available, as well and a lengthy salad bar. everything from sandwiches, soup, pizza, raman noodles, french fries, to egg rolls are available.
Dorm Life there are no dorms, and many students live at home. apartments are expensive, and many students rent rooms out of homes from family friends. a few students i have met live in an apartments with several people in tustin or santa ana, for a cheaper rent.
Academic Rigor college is certainly different than high school, so expect to be studying 2 hours at home for every hour in class. some students are able to manage 21 units, but i have been able to manage only 12 at a time as i work part-time.
Tips for prospective students meet with your counselor on a regular basis. have a plan, and check ratemyprofessors.com before enrolling in a class to make sure they are not too difficult or mean. when you walk into class the first day of school, scope out the classroom and sit next to smart looking people. always show up the first week of class or you will be dropped.
In three sentences ivc is a wonderful community college proudly ranking #1 for transferring students to cal states and uc's. i have worked hard these past few years in my classes yet have gained valuable skills and knowledge that will be useful for me in the future. i would rate the quality of professors very high, many of them having previously taught at prestigious universities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i feel safe at the campus. i always see the campus police wondering throughout the school and at night the campus it well lit and you dont have to walk very far to get to your car because everything is pretty close to the parking areas.
Greek Life not really sure about this section....
Clubs and Activities i dont really have time for clubs and activities because usually after i finish my classes i have to go right to work. there are alot of fun clubs that get you involved and if i had more time i would joins a few clubs.
Great for these types of students students who want to learn and get a good education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i havent seen anything unusal
Bang for the buck everything is priced pretty accurately compared to other places
What to do for fun i dont do alot on campus but irvine spectrum is close by and if i have time i go there to either shop or get somthing to eat.
Food and Dining the food in schools cafeteria is awesome and its not that expensive. irvine spectrum is right around the corner from ivc and there are alot of good places to eat there.
Dorm Life i do not live in a dorm at ivc
Academic Rigor i dont think that the classes are that hard if you just stay focused and dont wait until the last minute to get things done.
Tips for prospective students make sure that all the classes that you are taking are transferable and make sure that you keep your grades up because they do matter if you want to transfer.
In three sentences i am a student at ivc and i am majoring in business and i have an aa so far and i am working on an as and will be finished will all the required classes by the summer and then i plan to transfer to csulb to continue my education by next fall.

Categories Comments What to do for fun you can take dance classes for fun. it's a great way to be active and meet people.
Food and Dining the cafeteria food is okay. there are many restaurants close by so you can always leave campus to eat. some local restaurants are: pho factory, chronic tacos, subway, carl's jr, starbucks, papa john pizza, and many more.
Dorm Life there are no dorms at ivc.
Academic Rigor classes require you attend class and do the homework. if you do both, you'll succeed.
Tips for prospective students join the ivc dance program, you'll meet amazing instructors and wonderful dancers/friends.
In three sentences i strongly encourage students to enroll at irvine valley college. it's a small campus that offers great opportunities. the college focuses on offering the best education to prepare students as they transfer to universities.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Someone who is determined to transfer within two years. Most of the students here know what they want to do and where they want to transfer to. I've only met about 2-3 students who are completely undecided about their major and only one who has been here for more than 3 years because they don't know what they want to do.
Tips for prospective students You will not get the classes you want at the beginning, particularly if you register late, are a high school student, or if you are lazy. Register the moment you are allowed to (and even that is no guarantee) and petition or take classes at Saddleback if you are really desperate.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Do Not Stress Out So Much. Remember theses counselors and teachers want to see you succeed and they want to see you transfer or for you to do whatever you want after two years.
Am learning a lot Even when the classes seem hard, I learn a lot and sometimes those are the more fulfilling classes than the ones that are usually easier.
