Am learning a lot
Different majors will challenge you in different ways. I'm an art major and I have learned to build on the skills I already knew. I'm also an entreprenuership minor, something I've never done before and therefore learning a TON! You will be challeneged by 95% of our courses offered; naturally areas you enjoy will come easy to you, areas you're new to will provide more learning opportunities. This will be the case for most any instiution.
Am enjoying being here
Born and raised in the same town, I'm ready to get out! However, I enjoy KWC. The people are wonderful and the community is so nice. It is a small town to some, and a big town to others; all based on prospective. If I had to do it over again, I would still choose KWC.
Bang for the buck
KWC does its best to provide for its students in all areas of life.
Health and Wellness - We have a partnership with a local health and fitness provider to give every full-time student (residential and commuter) a membership to their facilities. Best of all, its about 4 blocks from campus. On campus nurse, health clinic, counseling, and health insurance plans are all available. During finals week, a stress free zone is provided to help students relax with a massage!
Academics - the PLUS center located in our library offers FREE tutoring to all students, test preparation, study skills, and study sessions. Career Development Office provides job placement services, resume help, and internship help.
Food and Entertainment - There are plenty of food options on and off campus. On campus there is the main cafeteria which is an all you can eat buffet style, open breakfast, lunch, and dinner; a sub sandwich place, and a cafe. All students also get a KWC discount card for use at local stores and restaurants. (pst... Papa John's Pizza delivers to your room!)
There are lots of campus events and midnight movies at the local theater for free. Ski trips, hockey trips, baseball trips, comedians, hypnotist, musicians... need I say more?
Tips for prospective students
I have done work with the admissions office over the years. These tips direct from the source you're trying to impress!
-Change your e-mail address: There is nothing worse than getting an application that has an inappropriate email address. Not only will [email protected] give your counselor a negative impression of you, it also shows you are not mature enough to handle college. When applying for colleges (and scholarships), create a new email account. Use only your name (no numbers unless required by the account provider) Keep it simple. [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected].
-Store numbers in your phone: If you've applied to a college or had ACT/SAT sent to one or even filled out an inquiry card, store their number in your phone. If you can, find out the number of the counselor who would be contacting you. When they call you’ll already know who it is and you can sound pleasant on the phone. I often get an instant attitude from students because they don't know the number and think its a telemarketer. First impressions are everything - the way you answer a phone, says a lot more than most people realize.
-Schedule a visit: ...and another one! We have several open house days. Its a great way to meet other prospective students and mom and dad also get some great information. An open house is a great first visit, but after you get home, call us back and schedule a one-on-one campus visit. You'll be able to ask questions you might not have wanted to during the open house, meet with coaches, and sit in on a class in your intended major area. Odds are, there is something you missed the first time around.
Great for these types of students
Kentucky Wesleyan College is great for students who want a small school. We are located in the heart of Owensboro, Ky on Frederica street, home to more restaurants than you can count! We're also the bar-b-q capital of the world. We don't have a huge mall or a millions things to do, but what we do have is one of a kind! Many places offer discounts to college students. Wednesday and Sunday nights is quarter mania at the bowling alley just minutes from campus and our ice rink is open year round!

This is a wonderful school with caring staff and located in a nice city. Fees include membership to the healthpark at the local hospital which has excellent facilities.
Tips for prospective students
Don't be intimidated by the tuition or the fact that it is a Christian school. The school atmosphere is ideal for learning, and there are fun things to do around town and around campus.
Academic Rigor
The classes are not easy, but there is plenty of help available from study sessions to private tutors to help editing papers, and all at no additional cost to the student.
Dorm Life
I personally live off campus, but have had the opportunity to stay in the dorms and they are nice... all are air-conditioned!
Food and Dining
The food is excellent, and there are ooptions besides eating in the dining hall.
What to do for fun
Midnight movies, greek life, and school clubs for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Painting Minerva-- a statue in the quad.
Great for these types of students
everyone
Campus Safety
When I have to be out after dark, the campus security guards will walk me to my truck.
