    Campus Safety

it's a small school and people trust one another. it isn't odd for people to leave their things on tables in one of the building and no one will touch it.

    Greek Life

greek life is very present on campus. i'm not a member but some of my friends are.

    Clubs and Activities

i'm a member of a bunch of different clubs, mostly academic, and i really enjoy them. there are so many groups to choose from, there is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

it's great for people who want a small school that has a great sense of community. it's great for people who want a small town feel as opposed to a city environment.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are a lot of traditions at longwood. you never step on the blue rotundas. you always step on the black crowns. we have two secret societies. they have droppings that are supposed to be passed down before you graduate. there is a late night breakfast before exam week.

    What to do for fun

there is a pool table in the student union. the rec center has a rock wall and basketball courts and racquetball and other things like that. there are also tennis courts and a pool. there is also a bowling alley and movie theater a few miles off campus.

    Food and Dining

the dining hall is alright. they food is normally pretty good, but as a somewhat picky eater, i occasionally have some issue with it. on those days, i just have cereal or pizza or a salad, which they always have. there is also a bagel place, a sushi place, a pizza place, and a small store in the bottom of the student union, all of which are pretty good. there is also a coffee shop in the library, which is good, and a few fast food place in the landings (an apartment complex just off campus). so there are plenty of choices.

    Dorm Life

i lived in the honors dorm last year and it was a calm place. i got along well with my roommate and made friends with people living there too. when one of my friends had a problem with her roommate, they moved her into a different room and she had no issue with her new roommate. they can sometimes be a bit loud, like all college campuses are, but most people will quiet down when asked.

    Academic Rigor

i am double majoring and doing a concentration. it is hard work but the professors are willing to work with you and help you in anyway possible. it may not be the hardest and most rigorous school in the world but it definitely makes you work for your grades.

    Tips for prospective students

try your hardest. get to know a bunch of people. use the resources available to you.

    In three sentences

i really love going to longwood because i have made many friends and the professors are amazing and really helpful. the campus is small enough that it is easy to maneuver and you can see you friends a lot, but big enough that you don't feel closed in and cut off. the surrounding area of farmville is also really nice and has things to do.

    Campus Safety

the police are kind and want you to be safe. the police station is in the bottom of the dining hall. there phone number is online. save the number to your phone. you never know when you are going to need it. they actively monitor yikyak and patrol to prevent crime. there is at least one police officer in the lobby of frazier and curry on weekends to deter misconduct. they aren't there to get you in trouble, they just want to make sure you are safe. there are also blue poles. they say "emergency" and are lit up at night. if you ever feel threatened or unsafe you can push the button and they will rush to you. there were a handful of assaults last year. so do go anywhere alone especially at night.

    Greek Life

no one will hate or discriminate whether you are or aren't in greek life. just don't hate on greek life and show up on to their parties. there is a bit of rivalry and sure there is some cliche behavior, but i have met nice people on both sides. i'm not a greek, but i do admire them a bit. they do have camaraderie, and they do a lot of community service.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a huge turnout for most events. everyone is really into lancer pride. if there isn't a club for you then you can make one. last year an animal appreciation club was begun between a bunch of strangers on yikyak.

Great for these types of students

basically any student. you will find a group to join somewhere. the first two weeks are the most difficult. you aren't necessarily going to be friends with your roommate or the first person you meet, but you will find someone similar to you somewhere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

we have larpers. they get together at least once a week. we also have a secret society. they were black robes and chant at midnight during chi walks. there is also a chi burning at the end of the year where they take off there robes and commend people they have noticed throughout the year for various reasons.my favorite tradition is the couch burning on buffalo st. the first snow of the year someone drags a couch into the street and sets it on fire. they have gotten in trouble for it before because it blocked up traffic but last year the police attended to make sure it didn't get out of control and that everyone was safe.

    Bang for the buck

it's not the most expensive college out there. it's also not the best college out there. it's pretty average in every area.

    What to do for fun

there is ping pong and pool tables in the stu (aka the student union). there are comedians and other entertainers that come every week. the performances are on little flyers you can pick up at the front desk in d hall. if an event is student sponsored, then it is announced through those little flyers, pinups on the boards in d hall, posted on yikyak, or there will be tents on brock commons that tell you about what's going on.

    Food and Dining

d hall is crowded during "meal times." the heavy traffic times are around 10, 12, and 6. if you can eat between those times rather than during then you will have a much easier time. the food is mediocre at best, but sometimes we get chicken nuggets so it's okay. on weekends you have brunch and dinner. please be respectful of the workers (i am one of them). also there are more places to eat than the dining hall. you can eat in the stu, outta here, or the restaurants that are on main street.

    Dorm Life

it's quiet except for the "freshmen dorms." frazier and curry are constantly getting in trouble for something because of a kid or group of kids that take things a bit too far. if you have a problem with a roommate talk to your ra. your ra will be your best friend if they are as awesome as my ra's have been. as long as you are respectful then you will be respected.

    Academic Rigor

it is not a killer work load, but it is definitely a challenge. start working on assignments when they are assigned because work does pile up when you are not looking. the difficulty of the class depends on your major and the level of the class. everything is manageable and i promise there are plenty of people that have taken that class and passed it. you are not alone. you can talk to your classmates.

    Tips for prospective students

if you need help, ask. you can email the help desk, find an upper classman, post on yikyak, or ask your ra. there is always someone to help. also i would recommend taking the leap into more uncomfortable situations, but not taking on too much. unless you are specifically at college for the partying, then go to class and do your work. don't put your academics on the back burner for fun, because you will have to make those grades up or fail the class.

    In three sentences

longwood is your normal small town college. there is something for everyone, and if you cannot find something you can make it. we are friendly too, so do not be intimidated.

    Dorm Life

my first year at longwood i was lucky enough to room with my best friend. we were on the 9th floor of curry and that was just a killer on move in day. but after that we got to meet everyone on our floor and we made friendships that will last forever. the people on the hall were very kind when it came to someone studying. once you have made shower plans with your suite mates it's pretty stress free. i will admit there were some ups and downs but come on 5 girls sharing one bathroom... bound to have some problems. overall i loved the dorms.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is excellent. There are safety call boxes located all over the campus and the parking lots. Security is extended into the town of Farmville. You can call at anytime to get a someone to walk you to your dorm or car if needed.

    Greek Life

Greek life is wonderful here at Longwood University. All of the houses are very respectful of their pledges. I personally pledged Delta Zeta, and am now serving as philanthropic president. I am very excited about our future fundraising events.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of activities and clubs. Ranging from club athletic groups to dance and singing clubs. There are leadership clubs and religious clubs. It all depends on how involved you'd like to be and how much time you have to give.

Great for these types of students

If you are the type of person that likes small classes, and a small hometown feel. Longwood University is the right school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are Rotundas and Crowns placed on the sidewalks around campus. It's good luck to step on the right one, and bad luck if you step on the wrong one. Also, during exams you'll find pieces of flare on the ground pick it up for good luck.

    Bang for the buck

I have many friends that attend Longwood University, but I also have friends attending JMU, Va Tech, UVA, Hampden Sydney etc., so it's easy for me to go visit them on the weekends. Longwood delivers on the college experience.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun, it just depends on where your taste lie. If you are a sports fan, an athlete, an artist or an actor there is always something to keep you entertained. I joined a sorority, and we are involved in community service.

    Food and Dining

Well like many young people entering their freshman year, I gained the freshman fifteen. It's hard to monitor yourself when there are so many tempting quick and easy things to eat. Use you meal plans wisely and eat your fruits and veggies.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life probably required the biggest adjustment on my part. I'm an early to bed early to rise person. I like my quiet time, and freshmen dorms don't offer much of that. Make sure you list your likes and dislikes when looking for a suite mate.

    Academic Rigor

It is very important that you have a good variety in your classes so that you don't get overwhelmed in one subject. Be sure to use your academic adviser when you are scheduling your classes, and don't forget to schedule time for yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

While touring prospective colleges ask current students to give you their honest opinion. Reach out to graduates, and ask them to share their experiences with you. The school you choose will become your new home, a connection is key.

    In three sentences

When I was touring colleges I was looking for an environment that felt like home while still giving me the feeling of being independent and responsible. Longwood University has met my expectations, providing me with a since of community.

    Campus Safety

Farmville is a pretty safe town, but Longwood takes precautions to have the maximum safety.

    Greek Life

Greek life is huge at Longwood with a variety of different sororities and fraternities. Freshman can't pledge until the spring semester, but there are open houses and opportunities to check them out.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and activities to choose from, ranging from academic, to community service, to social (like interests in hobbies or sports). Also if there is not a club that you want, you can start your own. To start your own there are just a few things you would need to do, which can be found on the Longwood website.

Great for these types of students

Longwood is great for students who like small towns and smaller schools, and who enjoy a since of community throughout.

    Bang for the buck

Longwood offers great academics, good housing and food, and a plethora of clubs and organizations to join. Since Longwood is a small school in a small town, it has a large sense of community and is easy to get acquainted and become familiar with the surroundings. The campus is beautiful and always upkept, whether having the grass cut or raking up the leaves.

    What to do for fun

Farmville is a small town, but Main Street has a bunch of cute little shops and cafe's students can visit. High Bridge Trail is a pretty nature trail. There is also a bowling alley. The library also has projectors students can rent, so they could have a movie night in the dorm.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall has its good days and its not so good days, but there is always something to eat. Not only are there the items the dining hall makes, but there is a salad and fruit bar, smoothie station, omelet station, and panini station, so students can make use out of the stations and get creative for their meals. There are several restaurants (sit-down and fast food) around the campus as well as the Student Union, if you want something other than dining hall food.

    Dorm Life

Mainly freshman live in dorms, and it is a great way to get to know people and make friends. Curry and Frazer are older than Cox, Stubbs, and Wheeler, but the buildings are not too bad, it really depends on your personal preference. The RA's are great and are there to help if you need it.

    Academic Rigor

Of course classes differ from professor to professor, as they did in high school with different teachers, but overall Longwood offers great academics. Classes are not super easy, but they are not overwhelming and impossible to pass. It really depends on the student's aptitude for whatever class and the effort the student puts forward. The professors want students to succeed and learn the material, so they will challenge them, but also give help if asked.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely go on a tour because you will learn and see what Longwood is like and what it has to offer, from there you can make a decision if it is a good fit for you. Also your experience at Longwood it what you make it. Get involved in clubs, Greek life, or just make friends and build connections.

    Campus Safety

You sometimes hear of incidents that happen on or around campus, despite these rare incidents, I would consider Longwood to be very safe, even at night. There are these poles with a blue light that people can press if they need help, there is always one or two visible no matter where you're standing. I would not say that the city of Farmville is as safe. I would recommend travelling with a friend or a group of people, and just be vigilent.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm currently part of PRSSA, a club that emphasises public speaking and other such things. There are many clubs for students.

Great for these types of students

Those who like a smaller school, have a great personality, and want to meet new people. At Longwood you're not just a number, the teachers actually know your name becaus emost classes are pretty small, and they will help you as well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are these crowns and rotundas on the ground around campus, the crowns are good luck, but the rotundas are bad luck. There are two secret societies called Chi and Princeps, you can sometimes find things they drop around campus. Sometimes the Chi members get together and walk around campus at night.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and other organizations for students to join. They can meet new people and find things to do together. The local fraternities often host parties with dancing and alcohol.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall in Longwood is not the best. I ate there for quite a while, but then stopped because I really wanted to eat better and healthier food. They don't have very many options avaliable. I often find myself eating at Chik-Fil-A or Sweetfrog down the street.

    Dorm Life

I got put with a great roomate and equally great suitemates, and we coexist in relative harmony. The floor I live on is sometimes loud, so I was lucky to go to sleep before midnight any day of the week. Everyone who lives on my floor is nice, mostly.

    Academic Rigor

I wouldn't consider any of my first semester classes easy. Foreign language was by far my hardest class, almost endless homework made that class almost unbearable. I had a 1000 word paper due every week in my bio class, multiple speeches in my public speaking class, and miscellaneous projects in my freshman seminar class. The work is difficult, so you can't slack off.

    In three sentences

Longwood is a small college in a small town. As an only child, I found Longwood to be very nice in terms of its size. While it may be small, there is no shortage of things to do.

    Campus Safety

Overall, I think it is pretty safe. I have never been scared walking across campus and the campus police are pretty nice/helpful if you have a problem. If there are problems on campus or in the community, they are extremely fast at sending you emails to let you know and to update you as soon as they know any new information.

    Greek Life

There is a big greek life. Many different events with them, plus many different fraternity/sororities to join.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots to do, it's kind of intimidating. There are many different clubs to join, and if you have a new idea for a club, you can create one with your friends. Recently, we have started a crafts club for people who want to try out crafts from Pinterest and other websites.

Great for these types of students

Students that love small classes and small town life. Also, students who like to be a part of different things on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Chi walks to catch at midnight. They have people in the secret society walking around late at night. They have announcements to when they will be. The people in the society are cloaked in black and they chant a song. Very creepy but really cool to see. We also have ghost stories told around a huge bon fire every fall. Along with Rock the Block, which is a cool little festival. Local business come and advertise themselves and there are fun things to do like characters, drawing to win gifts, and food. It's cool to walk around to all of the different booths that hand out different little free things.

    Bang for the buck

Longwood is great place with good academics for a fair price.

    What to do for fun

There are many different events going on every month. There is the famous weekly letter from Jim Pearsons that everybody knows and it always gives you a list of things going on that week. Of course, the best thing is Oktoberfest and Spring weekend. It has music, and booths to visit from different campus organizations and groups. Other then campus events, there is always the local bar 202, famous Thursday night at El Patron or other small places to visit during the week.

    Food and Dining

Many people at Longwood half-complain, half-like the d-hall dinning hall. It is a buffet style and it depends on the day to how decent it is. There are a variety of choices though. There are always fruits and vegetables. The best thing about dhall is the comment cards. I love nacho day and once, when I wrote that I missed nacho day on the card, they served nachos the very next day. Besides dhall, there is many things you can get with your bonus dollars included in your meal plan in your tuition. There are also plenty of local small town restaurants and dinners to choose from!

    Dorm Life

Longwood has pretty good dorms. They just don't house students on campus for all four years anymore. However, this could be a positive thing. You can then live on the off campus apartments which are either independent or Longwood managed. It is really convient to have an apartment, even though it's a little more expensive.

    Academic Rigor

Gneds or the basic classes don't always have the most motivated professors at times, but for the most part, professors are eager to help. You don't have to worry about a class being so big that the professor is too overwhelmed or busy to help you. Also, I think professors are even more helpful and into their job within the major you are in. At least within my major, I can say that the professors are really enthusiastic about their job and teach it well.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an opened mind when you enter. Longwood has many different groups of people, so even if you are unfortunate to get a roommate that isn't the best, there are still many other people to find. There definitely is a small town feel to it, as it is located in Farmville.

    In three sentences

Longwood is a great school for its small, cozy campus. It is easy to get from class to class, even when you don't have a lot of time. Events going on on campus are enough to keep you busy if you want, but relaxed if you don't want anything crazy.

    Greek Life

GREEK LIFE IS AWESOME. We have many fraternities and sororities, and also are home to 4 founding sororities.

    Food and Dining

Dhall was good and bad. It all depends on what you like, what day of the week it is, and what time you go.

    Dorm Life

My RA was fabulous, I had great roommates, and the dorms are continually being updated and renovated.

    Academic Rigor

I was an Exercise Science student with a Biology and Chemistry minor. One would think exsci is easy (its about exercise right??), but it is so scientifically focused that I would say it is one of the more difficult majors at LU.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early! Go to your classes, meet your professors, join organizations, and Go Greek!

    In three sentences

Longwood is literally the best college around. I am so glad I attended LU and now I have a great networking base! The town is great, the professors are amazing, and the school itself creates a great environment in which to grow and learn.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is phenomenal - they have blue emergency poles all around campus. If you feel threatened you can easily run up to one and press the button - a police officer will be there within a matter of moments.

    Clubs and Activities

They are plentiful and Longwood will most certainly have a club that will grab your interest - if this isn't the case, it is easy to find a faculty adviser and five other interested students to start your own.

Great for these types of students

Longwood is great for students who like to stick to schedules and those who wish to be a remembered face in the classroom instead of a number.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The color wars are so fun and really liven up Longwood spirit. It's where the even numbered year classes face off against the odd numbered year classes and throw red or green paint on each other. The secret societies on campus are so enticing to learn about, and it's great to see how students admire the work of CHI. It's a pretty big deal if you pick up a CHI dropping on campus, and it's cool to see the CHI walks at night.

    What to do for fun

Don't let the small size of Farmville or Longwood discourage you. Stores are available throughout Farmville. Also, there's a bowling alley available and a movie theater off campus. There are plentiful clubs and organizations throughout the school - you just have to be proactive in searching for them. If there is nothing else you can find to do, then there are plenty of volunteering opportunities. Longwood almost always has something going on, there's no reason to stay idle on campus if you're not studying or not in class.

    Food and Dining

On campus locations are great - Chik-fil-A, Moe's, Lancer Cafe where you can use your bonus dollars that come with your meal plan. One of the greatest things about Longwood and Farmville is the size - everything is relatively close together, you can easily find a restaurant in town that suits your appetite - Buffalo Wild Wings, Domino's, Pino's (Italian restaurant,) Subway, etc. D-hall has to-go for students who don't want to deal with the hassle of a crowded dining hall during the busy hours. The food is great there; salad bars, ice cream machines, and grilled foods. They do try to meet the wants of the different student demographics, D-hall is willing to listen to your suggestions for new food items as well.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is whatever you choose to make of it - dorm buildings are an easy way to make new friends, especially within the first few days of the semester. All have lounges where you can get away from your room for awhile to study. Some dorms even have vending machines in the halls - like Arc and Stubbs. All dorms have air-conditioning now since they are tearing down the older dormitories. Just please don't spend all day in your room though - Longwood has so much to offer, and you cannot access all of it if you choose to stay in.

    Academic Rigor

Longwood is a great school for those who wish to enjoy the fruits of their labor. You have to try in college, some classes are easy in comparison to others, but slacking off and procrastinating is unacceptable if you want to succeed and have a good GPA. Please seek help with professors during their office hours if you are having difficulties understanding anything in class. You have to try in college and put forth effort in your classes - if you try, ask questions, attend tutoring, and actively let your professor know of your efforts, there's a slim chance that you will fail.

    In three sentences

A beautiful, small, but homely campus, this school is a hidden gem in rural Virginia. This school prepares you for your careers after your education - internships are required for students. Longwood offers many great opportunities for students who are proactive adults and do not want everything to be spoon-fed to them.

    What to do for fun

I go bowling at Main Street Lanes every Thursday on college nights. We also go to the Student Union which is open until 12 am which is quite convenient come time to study. Sure there's parties on the weekends but some of the best times are shared with people in your room just having chill time.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty average but the experience of friendly staff is what really pulls you in. I love D-hall because of the homey atmosphere.

    Dorm Life

I live in the all girls dorm it along with the other dorms is nice. Living with your peers can be a little much at first but I wouldn't change it for the world. For me it turned out to where I live with my best friend and we've become more like sisters.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is not too aggressive but don't take this for granted, or you will fall behind.

    Tips for prospective students

1.) keep your values and morals close 2.) Use the helpful resources on campus 3.) make a strong bond with your adviser

    In three sentences

Longwood is rich in history and tradition. This shines through in everything done on and around campus. It was my number one and only one!

    Campus Safety

Our campus has blue emergency lights every 360 degrees. Campus police is readily visable on campus and around town and everyone knows the police officers by name. It is pretty much safe to walk around this campus at any time of the night or day, its the surrounding streets that sometimes get crime. We've had robberies where people steal things from people's houses while they are sleeping, only 1 or 2 real terrible murders, and a couple of assaults. The campus and town police are good with helping solve these crimes and making the campus aware of such acts.

    Greek Life

Greek life is great because you find your group of friends. Life long friends that are at people's weddings, god parents to children, future roomates, or spouses. However greek organizations are extremely judgemental towards eachother and there are all kinds of reputations about each house but you really need to get to know everyone to make a full judgement on your own. Greek Life is really all there is to do in Farmville so its best to make friends with people in houses if you dont want to go greek yourself

    Clubs and Activities

There are a good amount of clubs and activites, something for pretty much everyone. If you cant find anything you like all you have to do is get a group of 10 people together and to through student council to get it passed as a club.

Great for these types of students

Longwood has an extremely good teachers program. Their nursing program is new, but it is very good people go on to great things.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

chi burnings/droppings a secret society, (you'd have to be there to get it) Color wars, everyone throws red or green paint (based on their graduation year) at eachother on a giant field and whoever had the most of one color on them wins. All the supposed Ghost Stories (you go looking for the locations of certain stories on campus)

    What to do for fun

Greek Life, and parties on the weekend. Oktoberfest and Spring Weekend (festivals with booths and acts, concerts,) every semester, Going to neighboring schools like Hampden-Sydney for partying or Football Games and tailgates. Watering Holes (a nearby river,) or Pools (at sunchase apartments or in the gym), and the Gym (people like to work out here)

    Food and Dining

We have almost every kind of restaurant in the town, and they just keep adding more. Your meal plan most likely comes with Bonus Dollars which is like a set debit amount you add at the begining of the year and use at select locations. You cant reload this once its gone. Then you have Lancer Cash which is like debit that you do reload once its gone, and you can use that in even more places around town. The DHall has a wide variety of food, and healthy options, you could have breakfast for dinner or lunch throughout the day. if your vegan, glutten free, vegetarian, on a diet, etc, your set they have something for you, and they want to make whatever it is your way. They have everything from italian, mexica, chinese, american, etc.

    Dorm Life

It depends which building you live in, some are really old and seem like a jail cell but people make them look really good with their decorations. You make some of your best friends on your hall freshman year. Other dorms are newer and nicer with carpets and regular walls instead of cinderblock. I had some of my best times in Dorms. You could get a cool RA that lets things slide, and talks to you like a friend However there are some that follow the rules to a T. So make sure you know who those people are and try to stay on their good side.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the classes. Some Classes you have barely any work and then at the end of the semester you have huge tests based on what the teacher said or reading. Other classes you have little papers and regular tests. Theres a lot of reading once you get older, and the papers of course get longer. The teachers dont really (depending on your major) give you anything you really cant handle but you just have to apply time management.

    Tips for prospective students

Join Greeklife, or be close friends with people who are greek because there is not much else to do here other wise. Dont let the small town thing get to you, Farmville is actually kind of fun. Get a meal plan with lots of bonus dollars because you will use them like crazy, and dont go to DHall on fridays (no one does). Do go explore the Ghost Stories you meet great friends that way, and even if you dont believe its still fun to go hunt. Dont believe every rumor you hear about certain greek houses, get to know everyone first. Give Longwood A good amount of time to grow on you because it will. I can not stress enough DO YOUR WORK. Work hard, party hard. Too many people drop out at the end of first semester because they partied too hard and neglected their school work.

    In three sentences

The school is full of friendly, and yet sometimes judgemental people. You will make some of your best lifelong friends here if you know what to do. Once your a Lancer, Always a Lancer.

We have chi walks at midnight where people in Chi walk in a line in robes and you can't see who they are. They drop chi droppings for good luck. At the end of the year we have a chi burning where the people of chi are revealed. It sounds weird but it is awesome and a really fun tradition.

There is so many great traditions at longwood! Such as stepping on Princeps (secret society) crowns for good luck, attending the creepy Chi (secret society) midnight chant walks, and you are always on the look out for Chi droppings. Sororities and Fraternities are a big deal, and they have a lot of traditions and they hold some really great fun events, such as Greek Sync.

    Food and Dining

The Food is a negative part about longwood, the dinning hall can get a little bit old sometimes. Although Breakfast is awesome, with an omelet station, unlimited cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage, you name it, its good! But other meals were very repeated, and often weird flavors that I would never try. Desert was great though!

    Dorm Life

Last year I lived in a Co-Ed, non Air Conditioned dorm, The Cunninghams. And I loved it! It truely felt like home with the wood floors, actual bathtub, and home feel within the halls. This dorm had great character. My RA was awesome, there to help, always smiling and happy, and never too scrict or harsh on us.

    Academic Rigor

The small class size creates a better attention to detail from the Professors. The Professors can give harder material, more assignments such as papers, and they have the time to grade harsher and test more often. I have not taken an easy A class yet at Longwood.

I feel so safe on campus all the time. No campus big or small can get away without the occasional instances, but even then they are handled quickly and expertly. Longwood Campus Police are just a call away, as are the Nightwalkers if you're a tad bit afraid of walking back to your dorm or car in the dark. There are also blue signal lights positioned all around campus if you feel in any sort of danger.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of Longwood, there is a group for every type of person. Social, business, and leadership. I personally am glad I joined Greek. It really creates a sense of brother or sisterhood and gives you lifelong friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of organizations. We have Greek societies, WMLU Radio, musical groups, Relay for Life, Lancer Productions, and so many others.

Great for these types of students

Longwood University is great for a student coming from a small town and they want to still feel on their own and independent. If you're used to the city, it might not be a great match for you. If you're the type of person looking for a smaller school where you can be involved, get real time with your professors, and not be overwhelmed by the amount of people Longwood is definitely the place for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some of the most notable traditions we have are Chi (a secret leadership organization), Color Wars, Octoberfest, and Spring Weekend. Chi is a great organization, they periodically have Chi walks they seem weird at first but really get you in to the spirit of Longwood. Color Wars is a competition between the red and green classes (even years are red and odd years are green) they battle each other by throwing colored cups of paint at each other. Octoberfest and Spring Weekend are events that have booths to buy things, such as souveniers and food, you will also see lots of great bands local and famous alike.

    Bang for the buck

It's a little expensive, but still reasonable compared to other schools. But with the quality of professors, student life, and dorm life everyone definitely gets their money's worth.

    What to do for fun

In the town there is a movie theatre, bowling alley, and a nice downtown area to wonder around in. There are great bike riding trails and a lake that you can cool off in ar the right time of the year. On campus there's a bowling alley, swimming pool, student organizations, musical groups to join. We have a group called Lancer Productions that provides fun things to do on a weekend night, such as free movie showings.

    Food and Dining

There aren't a whole lot of options directly on campus. The food has been better in past years, but isn't too bad. One thing I will say is there aren't very many vegetarian options. But in the surrounding town there are a number of afforadable places to eat out with your friends.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are older, but they are in good condition and shape. Having been in all of the dorms, they are all a very resonable size. Some have mroe storage than others, but you definitely get the dorm life feel and experience.

    Academic Rigor

The professors expect a lot out of you, but it's nothing that some hard work and book time can solve. Since classes are a reasonable size going to your professor is a great option if you're having any trouble. Also friends in your classes and tutors are nice as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you're OK with the surrounding area. You're going to the school, but that's not all your doing. Be certain that you don't mind a small city surrounding the school. If you're finding you don't like the school look at the different organizations we have, you might find one that will deter you from transfering.

    In three sentences

It is a beautiful campus with professors that truly care about their students. There are so many student organizations that one can always stay busy. Every student is known by their name no matter what class you're in.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe at all times of day and night. And if something makes you feel unsafe there are night-walkers, whose job is to walk people from place to place at night, and there are blue emergency posts that are always lit and immediately call for help.

    Greek Life

We have quite a few fraternities and sororities. Greek life is very present on campus, but there is no pressure to join. So if it's not for you, don't worry.

    Clubs and Activities

We have TONS! And if there is not something that interests you, it is easy to found your own club.

    What to do for fun

Close-by there is a movie theater and a trail. But on campus we have pool tables, a swimming pool, a gym with a rock wall, a small bowling alley, and tons of events on campus. Outside of that it can always be fun to play games and/or watch movies with friends and others on your hall.

    Food and Dining

Overall the dining hall is well-liked. I really like some things they make, but not others. However, if you don't like something they have salad and sandwich bars. There are also tons of food places either on or around campus for an alternative.

    Dorm Life

There are rarely roommate issues, and when there are the RAs are very helpful and great at their job. I loved living in the dorms and I made so many friends on my hall. The dorms are great!

    Academic Rigor

They have a great choice of classes and a great library. The classes are interesting and informative and the teachers are helpful. However, it is college and you will have a good amount of homework.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know the people around you: people on your hall, in your class, your RA, advisor, and teachers. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help! Everyone is friendly and helpful, but you have to ask if you want help.

    In three sentences

Everyone is remarkably friendly and helpful, students, teachers, and town residents alike. The campus is clean and safe. There is something for everyone at Longwood.

    Campus Safety

Excellent Campus Safety all throughout and around campus. We have large blue boxes set up all around campus that any student who feels they are in danger, or are actually in danger, can press the red button on the box and a loud beeping will sound off as the bright blue light begins to flash, which sends campus police immediately rushing to that particular box. There is also a Night Patrol system set up that allows any student to call the particular number for assistance walking across campus, especially at night, if they feel threatened or in danger.

Great for these types of students

Students that like close-knit, community based areas will love this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the secret organization only known as Chi. A mysterious masked and robed group of fellow students that embody the spirit of Longwood's deep and long history. There are also markings located all around campus that are called either the Rotunda, in the shape of our school logo and main building, the Ruffner Rotunda, as well as the 7 point Princep Crown. The Rotundas are bad luck to anyone willing, or unwilling, to step on one. The Crowns, 6 of which are easy to find around campus, but the mysterious seventh crown is lost somewhere on campus not seen by students in years, are good luck to any one that steps on them.

    Bang for the buck

When I started as a Freshman in the 2010-2011 school year, i was paying roughly $16,000 that year. Last year it increased to $19,000 and this year, has jumped to a whopping $23,050. I absolutely love this school and, for the most part, the way that it is run, but I fail to recognize why I am paying such a steep price for such a small populace of a school for an education that I could get for almost $8,000 less at Old Dominion or James Madison.

    What to do for fun

As i stated earlier, there are a lot of clubs to get into and if there isn't a particular club already set up, students are more than welcome to make their own. There are a lot of sports teams to join as well, club and through the school. I, for instance, am happy to be apart of the Longwood Club Baseball team, currently #10 in the nation. There is also a huge Greek influence among the campus that every student has the opportunity to be involved with, either it be a social fraternity/sorority or a professional fraternity. And if that doesn't interest some students, the organization Lancer Productions, sets up a lot of activities for students to join. But of course, the party scene at night up at Longwood is quite intense (popular) and extremely fun!

    Food and Dining

The Dining Hall, or just D-Hall as we call it, is in my opinion a sad excuse for a cafeteria. The plus sides to it, it is a buffet style with a wide assortments of foods ranging from salad bars, to sandwich stations, and cooked meats to prepared pastas. Down sides, they do a lot of the same foods day in and day out and rarely change them up. The meat is rarely ever cooked right, either too bloody or too dry. And a lot of it is extremely unhealthy for a college student, with very little healthy choices that are actually enjoyable to eat. The Student Union is where most students like to go to get a quick bite in between classes or late night munchies as well as just a hang out spot to study or meet up with friends. A lot of the food is very delicious, especially the pizza and the assortment of bagels, like the Pizza Bagel, but a lot of it is priced crudely high.

    Dorm Life

There is nothing that beats my Freshman year experience in the dorms. There are so many memories from my hall and fellow hall mates, suite mates, and my room mates, some amazing and some horrible, but that's what makes them memories. It was all thanks to my amazing RA who allowed us to have fun and be Freshman, but at the same time knew exactly when to draw the line. Unfortunately though, there are some really horrible RAs who are really strict and don't let you have any fun whatsoever. This upcoming year, however, I am extremely disappointed in the way Longwood is running the Dorms. I do not like the new rule that does not allow Sophomores to live in the apartments off of the campus, restricting them to only Juniors and Seniors, and not allowing Sophomores any chance whatsoever to get off campus.

    Academic Rigor

The classes can and will be tough and challenging, especially if you slack off and let them become difficult. Some of the classes can be extremely enjoyable and even fun when you get involved, but others can be down right boring. However, the professors push for excellence and strive for you to push yourself to become a better student and person.

    Tips for prospective students

You really have to enjoy the small town, out in the country setting in order to enjoy this school. Don't be afraid to get up and get active with the school and with friends, it makes the experience so much more fun and exciting when you have friends to enjoy them with.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love this university, with its small size and student population as well as the student-teacher interaction. With a large array of sports teams, clubs, and greek organizations, no one is left out on the campus. The best part is that I get to see someone new everyday, but being able to see someone i know everyday as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Become involved! I must say, Longwood is pretty cliquey. It's hard to find your niche and meet people unless you become active in clubs, sports, Greek life, etc.

    In three sentences

It's very hard to adjust unless you get involved in something. The town does not seem like it has much to offer, but it is actually really lovely and homey. The class sizes are absolutely perfect!

    Food and Dining

D-hall is okay. Not my favorite place but the food is food. There are a few restaurants though located near campus. Moe's, Chick-fil-a, Subway, El Patron etc.

    Dorm Life

If you have siblings or have ever shared a room you know how sharing a room is. If not- I would highly suggest that you prepare yourself for sharing a small space with another. You have to make sacrifices when you live with people. But like everything- it is what you make of it. You can make it the best experience ever! My freshman year I roomed with a girl with whom I just did not get along with - by no fault of either one of us! This year has been so much better. Again- it is all what you make it like. Living in dorms you get to meet tons of new people and friends and always have someone to hang out with!

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be easy if you pay attention and make them easy. I know people who failed the freshman intro course because they decided that school work was not important. Just make sure you do your work and you should be fine! The professors are there to help you - don't be afraid to go to office hours to get help!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to go and talk to your professors! They are there to help you! I have not had a single one who was not willing to do anything to help me! Also- I know parts of college are about having fun and having that freedom but do not forget about the academic side of college.

    In three sentences

A wonderful university for education majors as well as for students with different interests. The students and faculty are awesome and are always willing to lend a helping hand and to do anything that they can to be there for you. I would highly suggest going to or even just visiting Farmville VA for a look at Longwood University.

    Food and Dining

Not as bad as some people would say consistently. Sometimes very good, sometimes not so much. Cafe and general store in Student Union basement has the beginnings of variety but is sometimes a stretch to afford.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are laboratories. On one hand, they show how people can make strong, long lasting connections. On the other hand, they show how people can function under either old or overcrowded conditions.

    Academic Rigor

There are dedicated students who love their subjects and professors utterly absorbed in what they teach. This isn't everyone. This isn't what takes up everyone's time. But for a visible amount of students, what they do in college is very important.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in contact with professors during office hours. They will more than likely respond to you. Establish strong connections with other students. Balance your time between enjoyment and school. Longwood's active party life can be overwhelming.

    What to do for fun

Longwood is in a small town, so outside social activities are limited. The town has bowling and restaurant. Get involved in campus activities - clubs, club sports, etc. That's the best way to pass the time.

    Food and Dining

The Dining hall (Dhall) has a great variety of foods, and always lots of fresh fruit. The meal plans are great, and can be used in the Student Union or Sushi, and elsewhere off campus like Moe's and Chick Fil A.

    Dorm Life

I've never lived in a dorm, so I cannot speak for actual dorm life, but I give it two stars for having limited housing for its students during its expansion. Farmville is just not big enough, it can't handle students living off campus like a city could (VCU, UVA, etc.)

    Academic Rigor

The professors are wonderful, and part of why they're so wonderful is that they inspire you to love their subject, and expect you to work hard. The course work is not terrible, but it requires effort, you've got to prove you want to remain at school here.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should definitely visit and take a tour of the school before deciding to attend. Academically the environment is wonderful, but its social activities are limited in the surrounding area.

    In three sentences

Longwood is the perfect school for someone looking for a beautiful, smaller school (currently has about 4500 students). The class sizes are great, the professors are amazing. They are always there for the students and are easy to contact outside of classes via office hours or email. The administration is overall alright, just a few minor things that could be fixed, like having to send transcripts to both admissions and then to the registrar after being accepted (which if you're transferring and have to pay for each transcript, it can be a frustrating). The school is growing, and faster than it seems able to accommodate - juniors and seniors can no longer live in dorms, and school affiliated housing is no longer enough to house everyone, finding off campus housing in the small town/county setting can be difficult.

Greek Life is incredible here at Longwood, letters litter the campus and are a huge part of what it means to be a lancer.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm personally in nine different organizations and I feel like they really keep you in the loop of campus life, and contribute to your overall college experience.

Chi Walks are done by the secret organization of Chi where they robe up and walk late at night in a mysterious chanting fashion.

longwood is a great school for students who don't want to go to big, huge school. all the buildings are in 5 minutes of walking from one building on one side of the campus to the another building on the other side of campus. longwood has about 5,000 students total.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

at the beginning of fall semester we have something called the g.a.m.e. it's where we go to the gym for a pep rally. the first 1,000-2,500 students will receive a free longwood lancer scarf of that year. then we all walk to where ever there is a game for. for an example, this past fall we walked to the soccer fields for the lady lancers to play the falcons to start off a new semester and school year. it's really fun and you meet a lot of new people.

    What to do for fun

you could go shopping on the mall, to playing volleyball in the mud with friends trying to win the championship to oozeball. there are many things you can do in farmville, va whenever you want to get out for some fun.

    Food and Dining

they can make absolutely anything you want. all you have to do is ask.

    Tips for prospective students

don't stay in your room all the time. there are plenty of things to do outside of your room where you can meet new people or just hangout with the friends you have met already.

    In three sentences

longwood is a family that grows each day. you always meet someone new in a class or around campus. longwood is a home away from home, i love it here.

    What to do for fun

At Longwood I enjoyed hanging out with friends, going to the gym and on weekends the party scene can be quite entertaining. Its nice to know that everything is within walking distance so a car isn't needed.

    Food and Dining

Dinning at Longwood could be better. The food in the dinning hall can be amazing some days and bland others. It all really depends on the day. The hours of Dorill Dinning hall are terrible. They close at 8 during the week which can be a pain when you have late night munchies. But the student union is open until 12, where they offer bagels, pizza, and more.

    Dorm Life

Living in curry or frazer is a blast! You will find a lot of your other classmates are living in the same buildings. The rooms could be bigger but its bearable and home.

    Academic Rigor

The classes can be hard at times but the classes are similar to high school in that they are fairly small. The teachers generally go out of their way to provide the best learning experience possible and in my experience have offered lots of extra credit.

    Tips for prospective students

The fairly new gym at Longwood is a great place to relieve stress. If you eat a lot I strongly encourage getting an unlimited meal plan at LU. Get involved Longwood has a lot to offer from Fraternities to Sports Team and more!

    In three sentences

Longwood has a lot to offer prospective students. They have great sports programs, great teachers, and a friendly environment. You'll feel welcome and gain personal connections with your teachers.

Great for these types of students

If you like quaint, homey living, go to Longwood. Great school for the school spirited as well.

    Bang for the buck

This year's tuition plus room and board is about $18,000 which isn't too bad considering the meal plans, internships set up through the school, and the study abroad program.

    Will enjoy being here

If you like small towns, go for it. There are a variety of activities like rock wall, touring the campus, and traditional games.

    Will learn a lot

With the small class sizes, twenty-one students on average, and low student-teacher ratio, students can expect to learn a great deal. My tour guide was extremely articulate and lively which helped me learn a lot about the campus.

Great for these types of students

It's really good for those kids who would rather like a smaller class setting close to what they were probably use to in high school. It's also suitable for those students who are really serious about learning and getting the most attention from their teacher. It's also good for students who like to socialize because it's so close knit, it's easy to make friends.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the school as many times as possible and try to learn everything you ca about the school so you can really picture yourself living there and this can apply to any school you're looking at.

    Bang for the buck

There's definitely a good return for the money spent and you get a lot back in various ways. It's definitely worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

The school is very active in various activities and even though it's located in a small town, there's always something to do.

    Am learning a lot

The classroom size of this school requires more individual learning and the teachers are easier and more accessible for help. I am a music major and the teachers in the department are very experienced and great teachers and all the teachers who teach me have doctorates.

Great for the student who wants to be more than just a number.

    Tips for prospective students

The #1 most important thing to do at Longwood is to get involved. Whether its a club sports team, the newspaper. the radio station, greek life, student government, or an honor society, there is something for everyone. Being involved in those types of groups will help introduce you to people who will be your best friends for life.

    Bang for the buck

Longwood is a Virginia Public University, with fantastic in-state tuition costs. They also have TONS of scholarships available for students.

    Am enjoying being here

Farmville is small. There is no changing that fact. However, Longwood makes up for its relatively isolated location with school sponsored, free, activities, parties, and concerts every single weekend. Literally. Additionally, greek life is pretty active on campus, giving both members and non-members things to do every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

    Am learning a lot

Those who come to Longwood expecting an easy ride beware! Despite its reputation as a school for education majors only that almost everyone can get into, the quality of Longwood's faculty and classes is fantastic. My class sizes are always small, ranging from as few a nine people up to about thirty five. Additionally, the professors are extremely accessible and are ALWAYS willing to help and offer advice, but still challenge you. Because of the small class sizes, professors have more opportunities to do field work. Class trips that I have been on included working on an actual archeological dig for my archeology class, and taking a trip to a national park to discuss Virginia wildlife.

Longwood is great for students who want to feel like a part of something. It really is a family environment so you are going to be noticed. We have wonderful traditions and so many opportunities to get involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't underestimate a small school. I had never heard of Longwood until my senior year of high school and when I decided to apply, it was really just my fall back school. However when I had to make a decision I went with Longwood and I have never been happier! If there is a school that you are thinking about really talk to people about it. You might be surprised by what you hear.

    Bang for the buck

The experience of being here is worth every penny. Longwood is a state school and it is reasonably priced. If you need assistance there are many scholarships and work opportunities available to students.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Longwood and the town of Farmville. Even though its small the college and surrounding community have so much to offer. There are free events on campus every day so between those, my classes and the organizations I'm involved in, there's never a dull moment. The people in the Farmville community are very welcoming to students and the town is beautiful.

    Am learning a lot

The small college experience makes it much easier to learn. I know all the professors in my department very well and am able to go to them with any questions I may have. The class sizes are small so I get the attention I need and I know my classmates really well. I also learn so much outside the classroom. Longwood offers so many ways to get involved. My involvement in different organizations has taught me valuable skills that I will be able to take with me for the rest of my life.

Great for these types of students

I think Longwood is a great match for students looking for a smaller school and who is looking to have closer ties with their classmates and the community.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit, visit, visit. Keep an open mind when visiting and be open to trying new things. Ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to explore the school and the town.

    Bang for the buck

Longwood is slightly more expensive than the average school in Virginia. However, the experience is completely different. Longwood is a school of only 4,500 students so you have that small school atmosphere. You will never have more than 100 people in your classes and usually the class sizes are around 25 people. In addition to that, professors are always the ones teaching your classes and are more than helpful when it comes to helping you comprehend the material. I think for the price that you pay to attend Longwood, it is well worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Longwood. The campus life is fantastic. There are many places on campus to spend time in like the Student Union, the bowling alley, the dining hall, and various other campus locations. The dorms are great and so are the Longwood sponsored apartments. Farmville is a small town, but there is still a lot to do around here. Longwood students and staff make being here and wonderful experience and work tirelessly to provide programs and events for the students.

    Am learning a lot

Longwood is an excellent institution. The professors are incredibly helpful and encouraging. If you are ever in need of assistance, you can stop by your professors office or speak with them after class and they are more than willing to give you advice and help with your problems. The learning is not limited to just the classroom. The professors will move class to different campus locations so that you can better understand the topics. The innovative way of teaching at Longwood fully encourages students to go beyond the classroom and really learn a lot.

Great for these types of students

Longwood is great for students who prosper in small classes. The average class size is 20-35 students per class.

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I can give prospective students is to enjoy what Farmville has to offer and get involved in the school. Longwood has many opportunities and you need to take advantage of as many as you can.

    Am enjoying being here

Longwood is a school for someone who enjoys a small town atmosphere with friendly people. The student body is very close and you feel welcomed right away. By the end of your first semester you will know the names and faces of half of the school.

    Am learning a lot

I have to say I learned more in my first semester at Longwood than my entire four years in high school. The teachers spend one on one time with you making sure that you understand the criteria. The information taught is applied to everyday life; in other words you feel like you actually use what you learn.

Great for these types of students

Longwood is great for students that like to live in a smaller community or in a place where there is more of a personal relationship with the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

When you arrive in Farmville, walk around campus to get more acquainted with the environment and where each of the buildings are located. It also helps to get involved. Try out several organizations in the beginning and decide which ones you would like to belong to during your stay on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The small class sizes and all of the great organizations make Longwood University a great investment. The class requirements for the majors are also something to look forward to.

    Am enjoying being here

Farmville is a great place to live and I personally have enjoyed my stay here so far. The more I get involved with different organizations and my major the more I want to stay. We have different events also that have been a great deal of fun like: oktoberfest, color wars, and eventually spring weekend.

    Am learning a lot

Longwood University has great programs designed to aid students in all of their needs. Since being here I have received a great deal of help from each of my Professors. Their willingness to go the extra mile has enabled me to learn the material taught in each class and much more. The small class sizes have also helped me grasp more material, due to more personal attention from each of my professors. There are also several labs (math and science) that can I receive help from if I am experiencing trouble outside of class.

Great for these types of students

Longwood is the perfect place for students that love to be involved in a tight-knit, welcoming, friendly community. If you enjoy small classes with complete access to your professor - Longwood is the place for you. If you like being invisible, inactive, on your own, and just that kid in the back of the class - Longwood is not for you. However, all are welcome, everyone is extremely friendly here! The cliques that exist in high school do not exist here so do not bring your biased opinion of stereotypes!

    Tips for prospective students

Get over learning for the grade. There is more to school, and especially college, than just a grade. College is about preparing yourself to be a professional. The knowledge you attain in school is worthwhile, especially in college. You will need this knowledge.... yes, strive for perfection but if you do not get there understand why and learn from it!

    Bang for the buck

Longwood offers their students so many free events. Of course, tuition pays for most of them so they are not free but the university provides a lot of entertainment, from live concerts, movie showings, and plays to sports events, readings/speeches, and shows. There is a brand new student gym that has the finest equipment. Campus and off-campus life is great - being here is great. The extremely knowledgeable professors definitely are worth dollars spent as well.

    Am enjoying being here

Longwood is amazing! There is so much to do on campus. Sorority and Fraternity life is huge here and though I did not pledge, the sororities and fraternities have events that are for everyone and not just themselves. There are so many clubs and organizations to become a part of. The town is small but the weekends have their options for a great time too!

    Am learning a lot

The professors here at Longwood are always prepared for class and stimulate thinking everyday. Whether it is a class you are interested in or not, going to class is never a waste of time. Professors are always available and some even go as far as giving you their home and/or cell phone numbers for you to be able to contact them. It is impossible to avoid learning at Longwood.

If you love small towns and small schools, Longwood is the school to go to. I always thought that I wanted to go to a big school, but once I looked at Longwood, I loved it. The classes are small so there's a lot of one on one attention between the teachers and students. Everyone in the town is friendly and with Longwood being a smaller school, you meet a lot of people.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you do your homework and work as soon as you can because it can add up real quick. Get involved with different clubs and organizations or sports; you will love the school even more and you will meet lots of people. Also, look into Greek life, even though Freshman can't rush until their spring semester, go to open houses and get a feel for each sorority or fraternity. You will meet lots of people there, whether you rush or not. Also, go to class! Teachers will notice whether you are there or not and you can't pass a class if you don't go to class.

    Bang for the buck

While the tuition may be rather expensive, it is worth it. The teachers are very qualified and want to see you succeed in your major. Aside from the professors, the buildings are nice and the rooms are bigger than most normal dorms. They are also doing a lot of renevations to the whole campus and the buildings are a lot nicer. The food in the Dining Hall may not always be the greatest, but there are many options for every meal and you can get as much as you want.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Longwood and I love being in Farmville. Farmville is a small town and there may not be much to do, but there is plenty to do on campus. While walking through the town down Main Street, the people of the town are so friendly and everyone talks to everyone. It definitely is a small school and a small town, but that's why I love it.

    Am learning a lot

I just finished my first semester and I learned a lot. At first it was a little over-whelming, but after a couple of weeks the work load got easier. The teachers expect a lot but they are there to help you during their office hours if you need help. The information learned will deffinently come in handy with my major (Liberal Studies:Elementary & Middle Education). Sometimes the work can seem a little ridiculous, but the teachers just want you to be educated, especially with your intended major.

Longwood has a great Education program for those who want to go into the teaching career. If you don't like big campuses and don't do well with large amounts of people then you'll fit right in. You create a great group of friends pretty fast.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Ask any one person on campus what clubs they are in, they will tell you. Everyone is involved on campus and don't be scared to try something new. Go to class as well, the attendance policy is key to passing your classes.

    Bang for the buck

Longwood is not large and therefore tuition is not as much. Longwood definitely takes care of their students. Classes are worth it and in the end Longwood is bang for your buck!

    Am enjoying being here

This has been the best decision I have ever made. Longwood has been the best fit for me. Campus size is small, everyone is friendly, and you can walk everywhere. There may not be a lot to do in farmville but there are so many things going on throughout the campus there is almost always something to do.

    Am learning a lot

This school is not as big as most others in VA, but it means that class sizes are smaller and teachers are more willing to help their students out if they need it.

Students who want a small college and plan on rushing for a fraternity or sorority.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to learn a lot and be prepared to rush for either a sorority of fraternity. Longwood is centered around greek life. You will not have a great social life if you are not in a club or group.

    Bang for the buck

I think Longwood is to expensive. It is a small school and the food options are terrible. I do not understand where all of our money is going.

Students who enjoy learning but also like to have fun. Students who want a good education but don't want it to be the only focus while at college. They also want to be able to go out and have fun, but don't mind being in a small town.

    Tips for prospective students

Farmville is a small town, there isn't much to do outside the college. Don't expect to never go to class and still be able to pass, attendance is a big deal at this school. It is not the most demanding school in the world, but what they do expect they are very strict about. Overall, a pretty great college with a very rich history.

    Bang for the buck

One of the cheapest colleges in central Virginia that I found. Based on the tutition, you get a lot for the price of the college. Compared to the other colleges near by, you either get a lot more or it is a lot cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

There might not be a lot to do in Farmville, but there is plenty to do on campus. The people here are all very nice. With Hampton-Sydney next door, there are plenty of parties and events to go to and all are a lot of fun.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here at Longwood expect a lot from their students. Especially those in your intended major. They are very smart and have a lot to offer in the classroom.
