Am learning a lot
I just finished my first semester and I learned a lot. At first it was a little over-whelming, but after a couple of weeks the work load got easier. The teachers expect a lot but they are there to help you during their office hours if you need help. The information learned will deffinently come in handy with my major (Liberal Studies:Elementary & Middle Education). Sometimes the work can seem a little ridiculous, but the teachers just want you to be educated, especially with your intended major.
Am enjoying being here
I love Longwood and I love being in Farmville. Farmville is a small town and there may not be much to do, but there is plenty to do on campus. While walking through the town down Main Street, the people of the town are so friendly and everyone talks to everyone. It definitely is a small school and a small town, but that's why I love it.
Bang for the buck
While the tuition may be rather expensive, it is worth it. The teachers are very qualified and want to see you succeed in your major. Aside from the professors, the buildings are nice and the rooms are bigger than most normal dorms. They are also doing a lot of renevations to the whole campus and the buildings are a lot nicer. The food in the Dining Hall may not always be the greatest, but there are many options for every meal and you can get as much as you want.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure that you do your homework and work as soon as you can because it can add up real quick. Get involved with different clubs and organizations or sports; you will love the school even more and you will meet lots of people. Also, look into Greek life, even though Freshman can't rush until their spring semester, go to open houses and get a feel for each sorority or fraternity. You will meet lots of people there, whether you rush or not. Also, go to class! Teachers will notice whether you are there or not and you can't pass a class if you don't go to class.
Great for these types of students
If you love small towns and small schools, Longwood is the school to go to. I always thought that I wanted to go to a big school, but once I looked at Longwood, I loved it. The classes are small so there's a lot of one on one attention between the teachers and students. Everyone in the town is friendly and with Longwood being a smaller school, you meet a lot of people.

The professors here at Longwood are always prepared for class and stimulate thinking everyday. Whether it is a class you are interested in or not, going to class is never a waste of time. Professors are always available and some even go as far as giving you their home and/or cell phone numbers for you to be able to contact them. It is impossible to avoid learning at Longwood.
Am enjoying being here
Longwood is amazing! There is so much to do on campus. Sorority and Fraternity life is huge here and though I did not pledge, the sororities and fraternities have events that are for everyone and not just themselves. There are so many clubs and organizations to become a part of. The town is small but the weekends have their options for a great time too!
Bang for the buck
Longwood offers their students so many free events. Of course, tuition pays for most of them so they are not free but the university provides a lot of entertainment, from live concerts, movie showings, and plays to sports events, readings/speeches, and shows. There is a brand new student gym that has the finest equipment. Campus and off-campus life is great - being here is great. The extremely knowledgeable professors definitely are worth dollars spent as well.
Tips for prospective students
Get over learning for the grade. There is more to school, and especially college, than just a grade. College is about preparing yourself to be a professional. The knowledge you attain in school is worthwhile, especially in college. You will need this knowledge.... yes, strive for perfection but if you do not get there understand why and learn from it!
Great for these types of students
Longwood is the perfect place for students that love to be involved in a tight-knit, welcoming, friendly community. If you enjoy small classes with complete access to your professor - Longwood is the place for you. If you like being invisible, inactive, on your own, and just that kid in the back of the class - Longwood is not for you. However, all are welcome, everyone is extremely friendly here! The cliques that exist in high school do not exist here so do not bring your biased opinion of stereotypes!

The teachers here at Longwood expect a lot from their students. Especially those in your intended major. They are very smart and have a lot to offer in the classroom.
Am enjoying being here
There might not be a lot to do in Farmville, but there is plenty to do on campus. The people here are all very nice. With Hampton-Sydney next door, there are plenty of parties and events to go to and all are a lot of fun.
Bang for the buck
One of the cheapest colleges in central Virginia that I found. Based on the tutition, you get a lot for the price of the college. Compared to the other colleges near by, you either get a lot more or it is a lot cheaper.
Tips for prospective students
Farmville is a small town, there isn't much to do outside the college. Don't expect to never go to class and still be able to pass, attendance is a big deal at this school. It is not the most demanding school in the world, but what they do expect they are very strict about. Overall, a pretty great college with a very rich history.
Great for these types of students
Students who enjoy learning but also like to have fun. Students who want a good education but don't want it to be the only focus while at college. They also want to be able to go out and have fun, but don't mind being in a small town.

I have to say I learned more in my first semester at Longwood than my entire four years in high school. The teachers spend one on one time with you making sure that you understand the criteria. The information taught is applied to everyday life; in other words you feel like you actually use what you learn.
Am enjoying being here
Longwood is a school for someone who enjoys a small town atmosphere with friendly people. The student body is very close and you feel welcomed right away. By the end of your first semester you will know the names and faces of half of the school.
Tips for prospective students
The best advice I can give prospective students is to enjoy what Farmville has to offer and get involved in the school. Longwood has many opportunities and you need to take advantage of as many as you can.
Great for these types of students
Longwood is great for students who prosper in small classes. The average class size is 20-35 students per class.

Longwood is literally the best college around. I am so glad I attended LU and now I have a great networking base! The town is great, the professors are amazing, and the school itself creates a great environment in which to grow and learn.
Tips for prospective students
Apply early! Go to your classes, meet your professors, join organizations, and Go Greek!
Academic Rigor
I was an Exercise Science student with a Biology and Chemistry minor. One would think exsci is easy (its about exercise right??), but it is so scientifically focused that I would say it is one of the more difficult majors at LU.
Dorm Life
My RA was fabulous, I had great roommates, and the dorms are continually being updated and renovated.
Food and Dining
Dhall was good and bad. It all depends on what you like, what day of the week it is, and what time you go.
Greek Life
GREEK LIFE IS AWESOME. We have many fraternities and sororities, and also are home to 4 founding sororities.

Those who come to Longwood expecting an easy ride beware! Despite its reputation as a school for education majors only that almost everyone can get into, the quality of Longwood's faculty and classes is fantastic. My class sizes are always small, ranging from as few a nine people up to about thirty five. Additionally, the professors are extremely accessible and are ALWAYS willing to help and offer advice, but still challenge you. Because of the small class sizes, professors have more opportunities to do field work. Class trips that I have been on included working on an actual archeological dig for my archeology class, and taking a trip to a national park to discuss Virginia wildlife.
Am enjoying being here
Farmville is small. There is no changing that fact. However, Longwood makes up for its relatively isolated location with school sponsored, free, activities, parties, and concerts every single weekend. Literally. Additionally, greek life is pretty active on campus, giving both members and non-members things to do every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.
Bang for the buck
Longwood is a Virginia Public University, with fantastic in-state tuition costs. They also have TONS of scholarships available for students.
Tips for prospective students
The #1 most important thing to do at Longwood is to get involved. Whether its a club sports team, the newspaper. the radio station, greek life, student government, or an honor society, there is something for everyone. Being involved in those types of groups will help introduce you to people who will be your best friends for life.
Great for these types of students
Great for the student who wants to be more than just a number.

Longwood is an excellent institution. The professors are incredibly helpful and encouraging. If you are ever in need of assistance, you can stop by your professors office or speak with them after class and they are more than willing to give you advice and help with your problems. The learning is not limited to just the classroom. The professors will move class to different campus locations so that you can better understand the topics. The innovative way of teaching at Longwood fully encourages students to go beyond the classroom and really learn a lot.
Am enjoying being here
I absolutely love Longwood. The campus life is fantastic. There are many places on campus to spend time in like the Student Union, the bowling alley, the dining hall, and various other campus locations. The dorms are great and so are the Longwood sponsored apartments. Farmville is a small town, but there is still a lot to do around here. Longwood students and staff make being here and wonderful experience and work tirelessly to provide programs and events for the students.
Bang for the buck
Longwood is slightly more expensive than the average school in Virginia. However, the experience is completely different. Longwood is a school of only 4,500 students so you have that small school atmosphere. You will never have more than 100 people in your classes and usually the class sizes are around 25 people. In addition to that, professors are always the ones teaching your classes and are more than helpful when it comes to helping you comprehend the material. I think for the price that you pay to attend Longwood, it is well worth it.
Tips for prospective students
Visit, visit, visit. Keep an open mind when visiting and be open to trying new things. Ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to explore the school and the town.
Great for these types of students
I think Longwood is a great match for students looking for a smaller school and who is looking to have closer ties with their classmates and the community.

Super homey campus, its a pleasure to be here. I love knowing everyone, and having a personal relationship with my professors. The lancer spirit can be felt throughout the campus.
Tips for prospective students
If possible minimize trips to dining hall, It's good at first then...not so much. Take the time to visit your professors in their office hours, it pays off when they recommend you for various positions in campus life. Attend all the social functions held by Lancer Productions, you'll get to meet a ton of cool people.
Academic Rigor
It all depends on how hard you wan to push yourself.
Dorm Life
It all depends on were you are put, some dorms are way better than others.
Food and Dining
The dining hall is good in moderation, but it's the on campus food that is the best ie. Moes, Subway, and Starbucks.
What to do for fun
Buffalo Shuffle, meaning go up and down Buffalo street and party in the greek houses. Attend campus wide events. Go to the movies at Sun chase.
Bang for the buck
It is worth it if you are from Virginia, instate tuition is comparatively better to out of state. I didn't go to VT because LU was cheeper, and I'm glad I came because i'm getting the same education as my friends at Tech.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Color Wars, and Chi Walks are famous at Longwood. Color Wars is a campus wide event were we all gather in a large field and throw paint at each other based on what class you are. It is a ton of fun and you get cool mementos with your splattered cloths. Chi Walks are done by the secret organization of Chi where they robe up and walk late at night in a mysterious chanting fashion.
Great for these types of students
It is great for students who don't need to be pushed to be social as well as those who are going into the education program.
Clubs and Activities
I'm personally in nine different organizations and I feel like they really keep you in the loop of campus life, and contribute to your overall college experience.
Greek Life
Greek Life is incredible here at Longwood, letters litter the campus and are a huge part of what it means to be a lancer.
Campus Safety
Campus Safety is a nonissue. There are tons of blue lights around campus that call campus patrol, and they rome campus all the time regardless of being called into action.

The classroom size of this school requires more individual learning and the teachers are easier and more accessible for help. I am a music major and the teachers in the department are very experienced and great teachers and all the teachers who teach me have doctorates.
Am enjoying being here
The school is very active in various activities and even though it's located in a small town, there's always something to do.
Bang for the buck
There's definitely a good return for the money spent and you get a lot back in various ways. It's definitely worth the money.
Tips for prospective students
Visit the school as many times as possible and try to learn everything you ca about the school so you can really picture yourself living there and this can apply to any school you're looking at.
Great for these types of students
It's really good for those kids who would rather like a smaller class setting close to what they were probably use to in high school. It's also suitable for those students who are really serious about learning and getting the most attention from their teacher. It's also good for students who like to socialize because it's so close knit, it's easy to make friends.

The small college experience makes it much easier to learn. I know all the professors in my department very well and am able to go to them with any questions I may have. The class sizes are small so I get the attention I need and I know my classmates really well. I also learn so much outside the classroom. Longwood offers so many ways to get involved. My involvement in different organizations has taught me valuable skills that I will be able to take with me for the rest of my life.
Am enjoying being here
I absolutely love Longwood and the town of Farmville. Even though its small the college and surrounding community have so much to offer. There are free events on campus every day so between those, my classes and the organizations I'm involved in, there's never a dull moment. The people in the Farmville community are very welcoming to students and the town is beautiful.
Bang for the buck
The experience of being here is worth every penny. Longwood is a state school and it is reasonably priced. If you need assistance there are many scholarships and work opportunities available to students.
Tips for prospective students
Don't underestimate a small school. I had never heard of Longwood until my senior year of high school and when I decided to apply, it was really just my fall back school. However when I had to make a decision I went with Longwood and I have never been happier! If there is a school that you are thinking about really talk to people about it. You might be surprised by what you hear.
Great for these types of students
Longwood is great for students who want to feel like a part of something. It really is a family environment so you are going to be noticed. We have wonderful traditions and so many opportunities to get involved.
