Originally founded as the first law school to serve the greater Detroit area, the Michigan State University College of Law is an independent private legal institute academically integrated into the MSU system. The Law College’s JD academic curriculum is structured around four core learning outcomes and divided into 13 focus areas of legal practice. Complementing its standard legal offerings, MSU Law’s Indigenous Law and Policy program trains future lawyers to represent Native American tribes of various sizes throughout the country. After completing first year academic courses, second and third year law students gain hands-on experience at MSU Law’s numerous legal clinics.
