Categories Comments What to do for fun Going outdoors is the best thing to do in the fall and late spring. It gets too cold to do anything fun in the winter besides skiing and snowboarding. Less than 2 hours away from a couple bigger cities if you get bored of butte.
Food and Dining Its okay food but it is offered buffet style with a menu to order off of if you dont want the buffet.New tables were put in this semester so the cafeteria looks great and the view is even better.
Dorm Life I live in the dorms and its great! The rooms are bigger than some of the other ones I have seen in other collges. There is always some game or event going on in the dorms and they are always fun!
Academic Rigor Teachers are great but some classes require a lot of work.
Tips for prospective students Come here if you have any interest in the outdoors or think you might. Great school and gets better the more you get involved.
In three sentences Great for outdoors. Proffessors are great and extremley helpful. Has everything you would need college-wise and at half the cost it should be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security are constantly around. Will come in any time for escort service.
Greek Life nonexistent
Clubs and Activities Very few clubs that actually sound like fun.
Great for these types of students Engineering or mining students who don't mind getting their hands dirty.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Underneath the city is a huge mine, so you can take tours of pretty much an under city. Unique houses and just as unique people.
Bang for the buck Montana Tech is by far the cheapest school you can go to next to a community college. The education you get here, especially for engineering or mining is the best in the Western Hemisphere and a top school around the world. Plus getting a job after college is one of the easiest challenges.
What to do for fun Discovery Ski hill is close by along with Fairmont Hot Springs. Butte is a drinking town so you can do that also.
Food and Dining I don't have a meal plan but the food is basically all you can eat and buy because of the huge budget. They close at 7 so eat an early dinner.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, but of what I heard it is decent but a little small.
Academic Rigor Classes are difficult enough that you will have to study.
Tips for prospective students Bring something to keep you from dying from boredom during the long winter. Also, the winter's are colder than most other areas in the state. Teachers are available constantly for extra help and the learning center is always there to help with more difficult classes.
In three sentences Montana Tech is located in a blue-collar town. Not many activities besides school and studying so you won't get to distracted. Teachers are all very talented and classroom sizes are usually around 20-30 students.

Tips for prospective students Look into what the school can offer and try to get information from students about the school. Also attend as many tours that the school offers.
In three sentences A school that offers a good education at a reasonable price with several different areas of study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Butte itself is a low-crime area, unless you count bar fights. This is Montana, after all, where everyone carries a firearm and the police seem more interested in getting someone home rather than locking them up for public intoxication. Campus security is ever-present, and it's small enough that it would be difficult to get away with much. General safety rules apply, but it's never felt unsafe to walk alone, regardless of the hour.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities It's a smaller school. There are academic and social clubs for those so inclined. But they aren't going to be 500-student strong.
Great for these types of students Best fit: A student who is studious, intelligent, academically-minded, conservative, frugal, and listens to country music. Poor fit: A student who likes to party, is politically and socially liberal, and is looking for what Hollywood has idealized as the college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Everyone hikes to the top of the M mountain. There is a lot of school spirit on this campus, and football games are the highlight of the week.
Bang for the buck It would be difficult to find a more financially reasonable university. The first two years, students can enroll through Montana Tech: Highlands, and save half the tuition. It means a couple of extra classes (preparatory), but saves thousands.
What to do for fun Butte is a quiet town, full of historic buildings, and a photographer's paradise. If you are in to hiking and outdoorsy activities, it's a great place for adventure. There is no night life to speak of, and the town is in bed by 9 pm. Plenty of time to study.
Food and Dining Average, which is better than most school food. Reasonably priced, as cafeterias go. The water is mineral-heavy, so you'll need a filter, even if a portable pitcher-sized one.
Dorm Life It depends upon what you're after. Living here is quiet, tight-knit, and conducive to studying. Most of the students are just out of high school, and it can sometimes feel like an extension of that. The school tries to provide plenty of student activities to foster friendships.
Academic Rigor Choose your professors wisely, and realize that many of them consider a C to be average. There is no grade inflation here. Expect to spend 2-3 hours outside the classroom for every one you spend in it; more for chemistry, biology, and geology. Mandatory attendance is the norm.
Tips for prospective students Petroleum Engineering seems to be the dumping ground for athletic scholarship recipients. The other Engineering programs are excellent. There are some surprisingly good liberal arts professors to round out your education. Tuition caps at 12 units, so it's financially smart to take a full load.
In three sentences Montana Tech is an academically rigorous university that is overwhelmingly male in the sciences. Campus is small and beautiful, and activities focus largely on the wholesome. Many professors come from the engineering world rather than just academia. This is the antithesis of a party school.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Participate in on-campus activities such as movie night, live performances (comedians, hypnotists, etc.), and trips to surrounding areas (some require payment and first come first serve basis.
Food and Dining College can offer a decent meal plan (when the cafeteria is open). They run very limited hours.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms here, but the fill up quick with international students and freshman taking priority.
Academic Rigor Most of the science or engineering degrees require upper level calculus, so be prepared.
Tips for prospective students Stay with family if you can or find a roommate ASAP, while going to school here. Rent is expensive, dorms fill up quickly, and student housing is okay if you can get in.
In three sentences A decent school for those looking for a Math, Science, Engineering, or Medical degree. Mostly a guy dominated school but some women do attend. A fairly decent atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Pretty quite campus where most of the folks are as nice as it gets. We generally don't have problems here at tech.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs on tech to meet pretty much anyone interests. If there isn't a club that suits you its fairly easy process to make one.
Great for these types of students If you want to be an engineer, don't mind a smaller campus and all it en-tales, are willing to work hard then tech is the place to be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's day in butte is big time here. The school is predominantly funded by industry and have lots of support from industry so we have access to a lot of different tools, techniques, and material that most colleges simply don't.
Bang for the buck Easily the best education that can be had for the price payed if one wants to become an engineer.
What to do for fun If you like the outdoors then the butte area is perfect. The hyper building (our recreations facility) has recently been renovated and it is packed with different work out equipment, tennis courts, racquetball courts, and various other rooms and equipment available.
Food and Dining Not the worlds best buffet but for the price that's payed can't complain at all. The grill food is pretty good and the kitchen staff are all good folks.
Dorm Life Have a lot of activities one can participate in. Clean, well maintained facilities with easy access to anything one might need.
Academic Rigor The work is hard and the curriculum intense but there is plenty of help available if one wants it and the professors are always more than willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work. The classes are intended to be very challenging and the teachers take that to heart. You'll have to work hard but sticking with it will help to make you one of the most marketable engineers in the country.
In three sentences A School for motivated Students who want an excellent education, especially in engineering Fields. Small campus and class size leading to a closer working relationship with professors and other students. Beautiful area and nice people with plenty of employment options.

Clubs and Activities If you are willing to participate there is something for you.
Great for these types of students The types of students who will do well at Montana Tech are those who are willing to put the time in and study hard.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Haven't attended another university to compare unusual traditions or locations.
Bang for the buck The value of the education receive is incomparable. Montana Tech of the University of Montana offers several scholarships. If a person maintains their grades there are scholarships available.
What to do for fun There is something to do for each season. Skiing in the winter. Golfing in the spring, summer and fall. There is also hunting and hiking.
Food and Dining The food is terrible.
Dorm Life Awesome!
Academic Rigor Very challenging, but help is available if needed.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to study and work hard.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Smoking and alcohol is not and will not be tolerated on campus.
Greek Life Montana Tech do not have sororities or fraternities.
What to do for fun As a student at Tech, there were extracurricular activities and clubs that were available. Some of them that I attended were; electrical engineering club and Circle K Volunteering club (a little bit different than Key Club). There are intramural sports available and the library holds a movie night in the auditorium every Thursday.
Food and Dining Tech has a medium size cafeteria, in which students can get to socialize and eat. The food quality is alright but can be greatly improved. Their salad bar at the cafeteria is pretty good and so is the deserts.
Dorm Life When I was living in the dorms, during the first week it was fun. However, after a few weeks in, it gets a little bit old and dull. Many people here at Tech moves out of the dorm by their sophomore years. There are two dorm halls; Prospector (old dorm) and Centennial (new dorm). The laundry service is about $2.50 for washing your clothes and drying them in the dryer. The internet and cable is taken care of by the room and board payments.
Academic Rigor The academic here at Montana Tech is rigorous in terms of comprehending concepts despite how hard they may seem to be. The academic here is a textbook base school, which requires reading and studying out of the textbooks for most classes.
Tips for prospective students As a current student; make sure to study and do your homework upon receiving the assignments. Another tip is, do not procrastinate on your study before the quiz or the tests. Attend study groups as much as possible to gain valuable information for the exams. Montana Tech has a learning center; in which students can receive help in a particular subjects by students' led tutors.
In three sentences This school is geared towards engineering students. This college gives students close encounters with teachers to be able to understand different concepts taught at this school. The job placements is about 99 percent after attending Montana Tech.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Montana Tech is relatively inexpensive for the quality of education you receive. The small class sizes are typically of those you would pay higher tuition for at a private school.
What to do for fun The campus offers a lot of recreational activities for students. There are also great outdoor recreation opportunities right in Butte's backyard.
Food and Dining The food options could be expanded to include more healthful choices. Overall, the quality and variety of the food offered is adequate.
Academic Rigor My classes are tough and require a lot of work. Professors demand excellence but they are willing to go the extra mile to help students.
Tips for prospective students Tour the school and talk to someone in your field, including an adviser. Montana Tech is a tough school but there is always a faculty member or student willing to help you succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The school has a program where they have everyone who is enrolled at tech and signs up for the cellphone warning, if there is an emergency. Last year there was a gun threat, all students were notified over a text message from the school saying it was not safe to go on campus. This is a huge step in campus safety, this program makes campus safe for all students.
Clubs and Activities Tech has a quit a few clubs and activities. There are sports like football, volleyball, basketball, and more. Some of the clubs include science, engineering, and other clubs. These clubs and activities helps students stay out of trouble and keeps them busy, so they can reach academic achievement.
Great for these types of students Montana tech is great for focused students, who are willing to apply them selves. It is not a easy school, but hey most things in life are not easy. That's what makes the trip worth the while, if you earn it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a statue at Montana Tech of Marcus Daily, one of the three big miners back when mining was popular in butte. Every homecoming they dress the statue up, some say its for good luck. I think they dress the statue up to celebrate, one thing Butte Montana does very well!
Bang for the buck If you are a student who is worried about how much student loans you have to pay back after college, tech is for you! If you are a instate student tuition is acceptably cheap. Also if you are in a associate program your tuition will never go up, no matter how many credits you take.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun at Montana tech and in Butte Montana. The college puts on many fun and entertaining activities where you can win prizes. Also butte is rich in history so you can also go explore the old historic town in your free time.
Food and Dining The food and dinning is delicious. They have a very wide verity of food, that anyone could enjoy. They also have this program called digger dollars, where you can put money on your student ID card so you never have to carry money with you on campus.
Dorm Life I have grown up in butte Montana my whole life so i did not have to live in the dorms, but i have friends who stay there and besides the small rooms, they really like getting to know new people. The dorm life is a whole new experience to freshman. You have to live with someone you usually don't know, but it is a learning experience.
Academic Rigor You have to push your self at tech beyond what is easy. Tech is a challenging school. In the end its worth it tho, to get a great education, so that you are prepared in what ever career you choose.
Tips for prospective students Montana tech is a hard to school to get a degree from , but is very well worth it because you get the best possible education possible. Also the school is in a very friendly town. Even if you don't know anyone here, it wont be long before you will start making new friends.

What to do for fun Bowling, movie theater, drive-in movies, skiing, snowboarding, sightseeing (the town looks amazing at night), Thursday night movies on the big screen in the auditorium and Tuesday night Call of Duty on the big screen too.
Dorm Life Dorms are clean and comfortable. I love the gym here too, as good or better than a sports club.
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging but never too hard. And if you feel over loaded there is ALWAYS somebody willing to help (staff or students).
Tips for prospective students If you plan on pursuing a career in some type of engineering, this school is a very good choice and everyone around here knows it. You may hear bad things about the town but I haven't found one of those rumors to be true.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Tech is best for students who are serious about school, enjoy a challenge, and look forward to many job opportunities after graduation.
Bang for the buck With as many scholarships as it gives out and its low rates, Montana Tech is usually pretty affordable for students and still offers the rigorous academics that should be the focus of a college like Tech.
What to do for fun The residence life staff often have activities for the students, such as Thursday movie night, make-a-critter days, trips to old theaters in nearby towns, and other tours and such.
Food and Dining The staff are generally polite and competent, but the cafeteria often lacks a healthy vegetarian option. It sometimes lacks any healthy option. As with all cafeteria food, sometimes unwelcome surprises (such as small pieces of cardboard) find their way into the food.
Dorm Life Most freshmen are placed in a rather old building. Although well-kept for its age, it easily becomes sweltering in the summer and lets in strong winds through the poorly-insulated windows in winter. The residence life and cleaning and maintenance staff tend to be friendly and understanding though.
Academic Rigor Montana Tech is definitely a school for serious academically-oriented students. The college encourages students to take 16+ credits per semester and stay on a straightforward, major-centric course path. Some of the scholarships it offers even require that the recipient NOT be involved in sports.
Tips for prospective students Focus on math and science in high school so that you start at the standard starting point in college and get through in four years with a minimum of course-placement confusion. Expect this college to be a lot of hard work. Use your time in high school to learn to read fast and study effectively.
In three sentences Montana Tech is an academics-centric college. It is a great challenge to the academic-centric student. It is small enough to get to know most of the staff around campus.

Clubs and Activities The sports here are great. Wonderful teams that give us entertainment throughout the year.
Bang for the buck Great staff and teachers who really care about you graduating.
What to do for fun If your into doing things outdoors there is hiking, fishing and camping in the spring and summer and in the winter there is skiing, ice fishing and snowball fights. If you don't like the outdoors the library is nice.
Food and Dining Not much of a selection, lots of fried or greasy food. Need a better cafeteria selection for sure.
Dorm Life From what I have heard the dorms are ok but there is not much to do on campus, less distractions make for good study time. I live off campus.
Academic Rigor I am a freshman and have not had the opportunity to test this yet. From what I have seen the teachers are helpful but strict and demanding.
Tips for prospective students Call to make sure all your registration and FAFSA info is complete it can take a little while and you don't want to miss your deadline for registration.
In three sentences I love the beautiful campus and friendly staff.
