Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

Norfolk State University is worth every penny. It is impossible to put a dollar amount on the experience that you will gain from attending NSU. Aside from its great balance of the academic and social environments, the spirit and school pride here is amazing. At NSU, I have gained networking opportunities and developed friendships/relationships that I will cherish for a lifetime. Once you're a Spartan, you're a Spartan for life. The family-oriented atmosphere here is what caused me to fall in love with Norfolk State University. It made being away from home for the first time a great experience and a smooth transition.
Shakyra from Norfolk , VA
Norfolk State is well worth the tuition that is paid. They do not try to take your money, or swindle one for more money than is actually needed for school. I believe a person will be satisfied about the tut ion they have paid to attend NSU.
Kristan from Chesapeake, VA

Dalton from Monroe, NC
This college is very easy on the pockets because it is not as expensive as most colleges or universities in the surrounding area and although it's the least expensive, there academics are the best.
Angela from Portsmouth, VA
The price is very low...the lowest in Hampton Roads for a four year college. There's no use going to some fancy school and ending up up to your eyeballs in debt upon graduation. You get out of it what you put into it anyway. Try Norfolk State.
