Dorm Life As far as I know there aren't any actual dorms but there are apartments nearby. I personally lived at home.
Academic Rigor I think it depends on what degree program your going for, but liberal arts wasn't extremely rigorous.
Tips for prospective students ALWAYS go to class! And look up the ratings for professors on RateMyProfessor.com; can be helpful in picking classes.
In three sentences Great for students who want a Bachelors degree without the huge amount of student debt that comes with it. So far I have received my AA degree and already have two years of college paid off. This was a good place to start my degree process.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt threatened, been threatened, or worried about my safety or the safety of my peers. I know there are security guards but in the two years that I've been at Normandale I haven't seen two students so much as yell at one another. I do believe that if anyone did feel threatened, and they told ANY employee, that person would be given immediate assistance.
Greek Life As a two year institution there are only two Fraternities that I know of on Normandale. Both are for students with high academic achievement.
Clubs and Activities There's a plethora of clubs and organizations. If you have a hobby or an interest, there are people at Normandale who will have that interest too.
Great for these types of students I think Normandale attempts to reach all generals studies students. More recently I believe they've begun the groundwork for a lot of selective and cooperative degree focuses in line with four year institutions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During the summer there are a lot of outdoor areas to find. Inside, all around the campus, there are benches, seats, tables, and alcoves where large or small groups can meet and associate. Watch out for the L300 classrooms. They're on the top floor of the library and you won't see them unless you actually go into the library and ascend the stairs. Don't be shy, get in there!
Bang for the buck I feel like every class I've been in has given me more, never less, than what I've put into it, and that includes monetary values.
What to do for fun There's a plethora of clubs and organizations. If you have a hobby or an interest, there are people at Normandale who will have that interest too.
Food and Dining Great cafeteria. Lots of food choices. Lots of seating. Lots of nooks to disappear into. You may be in the middle of a lunch room but it feels like you're in a small diner.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor I have always felt challenged. The classes I've had have expected its students to read, write, and do an assortment of projects and assignments. This is a works based style of academia.
Tips for prospective students Be organized. Take your professors as serious as you expect them to take you. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask, everyone on staff is happy to help you out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is VERY safe. There are a few security people but i don't see them very often. I feel more safe at school then I do at the Mall of America bus station. It's a lot more safe than other colleges because there are people there who are determined and dont have time to mess around.
Greek Life I know they have Phi Beta Kappa. I know they have a couple more groups but i don't really know much about them, but they have lots of booths, and tables that give out a lot of information about it.
Clubs and Activities I'm not involved in too many clubs but they have many clubs on campus. The college wants all of its students to be involved. There are religious, athletic, political, and educational clubs.
Great for these types of students Normandale is great for students who are not sure about what they want to do in life. It is an excellent place to discover what you want your major to be. It is also affordable enough to not have too much debt after leaving the college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I really like the Japanese Garden. It is so pretty in all seasons and it is a great place to just reside and meditate. It is very peaceful and an excellent place to think.
Bang for the buck The price is excellent. I do not currently pay for my own tuition but it is amazing compared to other Universities. The books on the other hand are extremely expensive. I think they could be so much cheaper than what they really are.
What to do for fun I am going to be in a volleyball class next semester which I think is extremely fun. We also have pool tables, clubs, and different activities the students can go to in their spare time.
Food and Dining The food is excellent. The taste is delicious and I haven't tasted anything gross yet.
Dorm Life There aren't any dorms here at Normandale. It is a community college. But there are student apartments across the street from the school that are very convienent for those who may not want to travel from a long way.
Academic Rigor The academics are incredible and you really learn and uncover things you may not have realized in high school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you register ahead for your classes because there is a better chance of getting the time of class you want. It is not good to be on a waiting list from the beginning so be sure to know your correct courses in advance. Get a lancer rewards card so you get free food sometimes in the cafeteria.
In three sentences Big enough school to get around easily without crowded hallways but small enough to know a lot of people. The academics gets you caught up with everything that you may have not understood in high school. The classes are easy enough to pass with an A.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Full time security staff on campus and no violent activities on campus ever. 5 star rating for security.
Great for these types of students Great for students coming out of the military or older students coming back to grow their skill set. Also a great place to go for kids coming out of high school who aren't sure what they want to do for a career.
Bang for the buck At ninety dollars a credit Normandale is a great place to get your necessary classes under your belt before you declare for your major. It also prepares the older student for the transition to a 4 year school. One other thing, free parking!
What to do for fun Normandale CC does have a football team, the lions they play every Saturday during the fall season and win more than they lose. There are plenty of clubs to partake in even though its a community college, including chess club, fitness clubs, book clubs and travel clubs.
Food and Dining There is no cafeteria at Normandale CC. However there are plenty of food stands with healthy choices as well as fast food items.
Academic Rigor The academic challenges are easily overcome at Normandale CC. The professors are easily accessible and ensure each student is properly prepared if the student applies oneself. With a school load of 1 hour out of class for every hour in class a student can ensure an A grade.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking of becoming a student at Normandale the process is not as intimidating as once thought. The financial aide office is very helpful walking prospective students through the loan process. The records office is very accommodating in making sure prospective students have all the necessary documentation.
In three sentences Normadale is a forward thinking, progressive community college where they allow the process of becoming a student after a long hiatus a possibility. This first rate community college is well laid out, and easy to navigate. Any rating below 5 stars out of 5 stars would be doing the college an injustice.

What to do for fun Joining clubs can be fun, or hanging out with classmates during free time.
Food and Dining It tastes okay.
Dorm Life I live at home. I do not live at school, so i'm not sure how good it is to be honest.
Academic Rigor Depends on what classes you are taking, and what your strengths can be. It can definitely work you out if you struggle with math, but don't worry the teachers will help you if you ask. Again, depends on how many classes you decide to take at one time, it is up to you and your level of learning.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students is to study for a career field which you enjoy doing. Normandale has many options for you to choose from, so take your time. Do not overload with school take two classes to start, then work your way up. Most of all have fun learning.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Personally, I find Normandale to be safe. It's a comfortable environment, and many people here get along well. There are also security guards on campus who go around and are constantly on the watch or on patrol as well, which adds on to the safety here at Normandale.
Greek Life By Greek Life, I will explain the honors society that we have here at Normandale. Our chapter here is Phi Theta Kappa, and it is a wonderful organization for students who meet the requirements. They offer a plethora of transfer-scholarships that makes Phi Theta Kappa worth it!
Clubs and Activities Clubs and Activities here at Normandale are thriving. There are plenty of club organizations here that meet at school, and are open to everyone. If you want to participate and get to know fellow students here, you'll for sure be able to do so just by joining a club and being active. I'd especially recommend Phi Theta Kappa, Student Senate, and Dance club, (just to name a few!)
Great for these types of students Honestly, Normandale has grown to become diverse in all aspects, like ethnicity, wealth, background, and so forth. I recommend Normandale to anyone, especially those who wish to complete their generals or Associate's Degree without being in as much debt as they would be if they attended another state/private university. Normandale is all about good quality education for an affordable price, and they truly do live up to that expectation.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Normandale recently constructed the Kopp Center, which is a popular place for students to hang out, study, and socialize. It's right next to our campus store, which sells a wide variety of things from food, to clothes, or electioncs, as well as two cafes. This is where the pool tables, modern furnishings, and awesome view of the Japanese Garden is located. It is honestly always filled with students, and is a great place to relax and socialize.
Bang for the buck Normandale offers courses for very cheap prices compared to state or private universities. Not only is it affordable, but the classes as well as professors are of high quality. I seriously recommend Normandale if you are interested in working out your generals or Associate's Degree in an affordable way.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities that you can do for fun and leisure here at Normandale. Besides a plethora of computers that can be used for studying or the internet (yes, Facebook), there are pool tables on campus, club activities, the Japanese Garden (which is beautiful, I suggest checking it out on Google), and many events that Normandale's Program Board hosts such as karaoke!
Food and Dining Normandale has recently undergone some new, and fantastic changes. There is now an excellent cafeteria that serves a wide variety of food and drinks that are of great quality. Also, throughout campus, there are even more vendors that sell just as high quality of food. The price is not all that bad for what you are getting. I highly recommend the pasta here! It's amazing!
Dorm Life Since it is a community college, there are no dorms. However, the reason why I would rate this 3/5 is because there are plenty of apartments and town-homes in the Bloomington area. If you are interested in housing nearby, it will not be difficult to find a place.
Academic Rigor I believe the courses here at Normandale are excellent. They can be challenging, and will require a lot of effort and hard work. Here, it is necessary to be organized and to keep up with your classes. Good grades, equals good effort.
Tips for prospective students I suggest meeting and planning with an academic adviser early on in your educational career. Always stay ahead of the game such as know your assignments' due dates in advance or any other major projects so you can plan out accordingly. Categories Comments Campus Safety If you keep your belonging with you, you should have no problems. Security is constantly roaming the parking lots and the buildings.
Greek Life There is no greek life.
Clubs and Activities I am involved in the Black Student Alliance (BSA) which focuses on bringing students of African decent together and becoming leaders to better the school and community. Many clubs help the school. Finding people with similar traits as you can help you find friends as well as looks great on a college application or scholarship.
Great for these types of students No matter if you prefer arts, math, history, music or embracing about your culture there is a club for you and a class that fits your preferences.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On the very last week of school a out door fun day was held which had barbeque food catered from a restaurant, kareoke, and games, and a hot wing eating contest which stirred up a huge crowd.
Bang for the buck The counseling office might end up being your best friend the way in ended up being mine. The counselors are friendly and answer your questions and help fix your problems.

Tips for prospective students Give yourself a tour before the day of your classes to get familiar with the school and where your classes will be. Be on time, unlike high school if you're not on time no one is there to hold your hand and tell you what you missed. Be friendly, no one likes a new school, so make friends as well as people that have attended previously.
In three sentences Normandale Community College tutoring center has provided me with the skills and assistance to obtain higher grades. The school is welcoming with information and helps desks. The many food stands keep me nourished with the calories I need to stay energized to continue learning.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There has never been any student safety incidents at Normandale since I have been attending. At least a 2 or 3 times a day you will see a campus police officer or two patrolling the halls/parking lots; which I imagine is a good deterrent for any potential trouble makers
Greek Life The only Greek organization at Normandale is the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Normandale has the Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter of PTK.
Clubs and Activities anything from dance, to politics, is in the list of Normandale clubs and organizations
Great for these types of students STEM majors, language majors, English majors
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Normandale does have a traditional Japanese garden on the north side of campus
Bang for the buck The tuition rates at Normandale are AMAZING compared to local 4 year institutions. In many cases the tuition at Normandale is less than half that of tuition at a 4 year institution while taking the same courses.
What to do for fun There are plenty of student organizations there for students to get involved in; such as math club, pottery club, tae kwon do, dance, etc
Food and Dining Normandale did just renovate the student center and the cafeteria; so the dining options there are phenomenal
Academic Rigor class toughness is generally straight forward for Normandale classes. The basic intro classes (i.e. freshmen comp, college algebra, U.S. history, etc.) are very straight forward in how the material is taught; all you need to do is to take general notes and you will pass the class. But, in upper level classes (i.e. organic chemistry, calculus based physics, etc.) those classes can be very challenging at times; which is to be expected for upper level course work.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to make an appointment with an academic advisor as soon as you can; just to make sure that you have at least a basic check list of what classes you need to take to get your major. Go to the scholarship office as well, because I am sure that students will find at least a scholarship or two that fits to their planned career.
In three sentences The campus is small enough that you are able to have a very in depth relationship with your teachers and classmates, but it is large enough that you don't feel crowded when walking through the halls. Every teacher in that school shares the same genuine interest of wanting their students to not only pass a class, but to excel in the material so much that they could teach others about it. The diversity at Normandale is so vast that students not only get an academic education, but a world education.

Food and Dining One small cafe which I have never eaten at. And a few vending machines.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor Not very hard, unless you get a crappy teacher.
Tips for prospective students Get ready for another high school-ey experience.
In three sentences Not a very fun school to attend, but useful if you are just trying to take generals. Classes aren't very hard, but when the teachers aren't very tech savvy it's hard to keep track of your grades.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe. The security team is always around and they patrol all of the parking lots. It's really well lit at night and security can be reached from campus phones or they have a direct number. They are also very friendly and the location in a suburb helps. I feel safe walking to the back parking lot at 9 at night by myself, they have lit paths that you can see from quite a distance.
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities Many options! And you can even start your own club if you have ten people who want to do it with you and the school even gives each club a budget for each semester.
Great for these types of students If you aren't sure what you want to do with your life or you are just returning to school its a great place to explore interests and get back into the college life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have a beautiful Japanese Garden on the north side of campus that is a great place to relax and hang out with friends.
Bang for the buck Awesome! The tuition and fees for one semester with 15 credits is about $3,000 dollars, and most people think that because its community college the classes aren't as good but that's totally untrue. The teachers and courses are very challenging.
What to do for fun Lots of clubs and extra-curricular activities to choose from.
Food and Dining They just put in a new dining wing with four different areas to choose from and everything is made fresh in front of you. They also have a health bar and two different coffee spots in other places on campus. Its good food and you get a lot for what you pay for.
Dorm Life No Dorms.
Academic Rigor All of the professors are very dedicated to what they do and most of them still participate in the activities in which they teach so they are very up to date and expect a lot from students. They expect you to do the work and if you have questions you have to ask, they won't baby anyone regardless of age.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking to get generals done it's a really cheap way to do it and they transfer almost anywhere in the country. Also try classes that you might be curious about because it's not only cheap but it allows you to explore new areas of interest without paying thousands to try new things.
In three sentences Normandale is a great starter school for anyone interested in just starting with their generals. They have many great programs and areas of interest for you to explore and they are very diverse. Transfer to other Minnesota colleges and universities is also made very easy through their MNTC program.

Food and Dining ncc just expanded with a new building with a new cafeteria. the food is delicious and there is plenty of space.
Dorm Life there are no dorms.
Academic Rigor depending on the professor, college courses can either be really simple or be really challenging. either way, you will have to do your part in order to obtain the grade you wish to have.
Tips for prospective students manage your time wisely, ask questions no matter how stupid you may think it is.
In three sentences it's a good school because the professors are available for questions. it challenges you. it's a decent size for an individual to make friends and form study groups if necessary.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Normandale is great for students who still want to live at home, or for those who don't know yet what they want to major in.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships as soon as possible! Pay attention in class, do your work, and study for exams. In college, it is hard to get points, and many professors don't give you many opportunities to earn them. Often times the only opportunity to earn points is on exams.
Bang for the buck Normandale is a great, cheaper alternative to a four year college. You can take classes at a less expensive price, and if you choose you can transfer your credits to a four year college!
Am enjoying being here I love how close Normandale is to my home. I enjoy taking classes here and hanging out in the Kopp Student Center.
Am learning a lot My professors are very knowledgable and eager to help. I am taking a lot of science and math courses so I can major in Biology, and go on to pharmacy school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that enjoy small interactive classrooms will love Normandale. With such a small campus it is a fun place to relax and meet new people in the student center.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships right away. To become familiar with the building take a tour of the place or get involved in PSEO in your High School as it is an easy way to get credits and stay ahead of schedule.
Bang for the buck There are many scholarships available which make going to Normandale inexpensive. Many people that I know have attended Normandale for free based on their financial aid.
Am enjoying being here The campus is small enough that it is easy to find where you have to be. There are many opportunities to get involved in intramural activities whether your interests be sports or other clubs such as drama or science.
Am learning a lot Yes the teachers at Normandale are very helpful and friendly. Normandale is a good cheap alternative to traditional 4 year colleges. Some of my past teachers have been teachers at st. Thomas and the university of Minnesota as well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is good for anyone that is not sure what they want to major in; want to start with generals to save money on those courses when they transfer; for people that want to earn more education for work; and pretty much anyone that wants to further their education should start here.
Tips for prospective students Apply for your courses early when you can, courses fill up fast. Order your books as soon as you can, and pick them up before your courses start. If you are an independent student, take at least one online course. They are good because you get the whole semester's assignments, and due dates, and you can work at your own pace. But make sure you get your assignments in on time!!
Bang for the buck This is a community college, so the price is determined based on what courses you apply for and the number of credits you have. Courses can be anywhere from one (1) to five (5) credits. If you apply for financial aid, you could get most of it covered.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying being here. I've taken a variety of courses that go towards my generals.
Am learning a lot I am, but I did take a couple courses that were similar to those that I have taken in high school.
