Northern Essex Community College encompasses a diversified body of students. The professors at N.E.C.C. are encouraging, challenge the students and really care. I have attended Northern Essex Community College on a part-time basis for several years and am excited to be a graduating participant for the college's 50th Year Celebration! Congratulations Class of 2012!!
Tips for prospective students
Showing up for all of your classes on a regular basis is critical for success. Make sure you complete all reading assignments and take neat and organized notes in each class. Ask lots of questions!
Academic Rigor
There are standard rules and regulations that all students must follow. Academically, teachers lay out the ground rules on the first day of class. It is then up to the student to follow these rules. If there is a valid reason or excuse for late assignments or absenteeism, teachers are accepting of these kinds of situations, as long as they do no become habitual. Northern Essex presents a standard of excellence that tops most community colleges in the country.
Dorm Life
Most students commute to and from the college on a daily basis. There is limited housing for the students, but there are willing families in the surrounding area that house students.
Food and Dining
Northern Essex has a cafeteria on the second floor in the Student Center. It has a variety of foods including fruits, pizza, sandwiches, and vending machines. In the Spurk Building, there is a cafe called Jitters Cafe. You can order coffee, tea, juice, soda, water, bagels, pastries and energy bars. There is a comfortable lounge area with computers for students to study or check into the Student Online Center.
What to do for fun
Northern Essex Community College has a calendar of events that occur throughout the school year. They include Drama Club presentations, musicals, guest lecturers and a number of other enjoyable activities. There are also many opportunities to engage in volunteer work in and around the college, which gives the student a great sense of helping others.
Bang for the buck
Northern Essex is an excellent way to obtain a well-rounded education without breaking the bank. It is also great way to get a taste of a particular major and then transfer to a 4-year school.
Great for these types of students
An education at Northern Essex Community College offers great opportunities for students whose are bi-lingual or who need some extra tutoring in English. There are many English as a Second Language classes that are offered for these specific students. The Math Lab at N.E. C. C. is phenomenal and if there is ever a need to brush up on your math skills, this is the place to go! The college provides an array of services for all kinds of students!
Clubs and Activities
Northern Essex Community College's list of clubs and activities is unusually long. There are clubs for writers, foreign language buffs, a dance club which includes Hip Hop and Modern dance and clubs for the budding or elite artist. Just to name a few! There are many sports-related clubs as well, that are very popular at Northern Essex Community College, including an all-equipped fitness center that offers free membership for all its students.
Campus Safety
Campus Safety is second to none! The N.E.C.C. security police are constantly patrolling the campus day and night and they are they are always willing to give a helping hand, when necessary.

I love everything about this school. Teachers are very supportive and genuinely want you to succeed. The staff in general are very helpful and go above and beyond to make sure your taken care of.
Tips for prospective students
I'd definitely recommend prospective students to apply because not only is tuition very affordable , but the professors are very interactive with students. Education here is key to all here. You will certainly graduate with the knowledge and experience you'll need to succeed in the workforce.
Academic Rigor
Academically you are tested of the knowledge being taught which is good. Classes are small and the professors are always there to help you all the way. There are also tutoring centers for that extra help when you need it.
Dorm Life
No dorms here.
Food and Dining
The cafeteria has a good size variety of foods. It's also a great place to just unwind when you're between classes. They offer cold-cuts, hot foods, soups, coffee and much more. Within the campus there are three sites where you can purchase food.
What to do for fun
For fun there are many clubs, organizations and activities in general throughout the year. There's always something going on that you can participate in. Sports events, socials, and many more things. On the campus in Haverhill there's a track, fitness center, basketball court, hand ball court, among other things.
Bang for the buck
You can't beat the low tuition. You will receive a good education at a fraction of what it will cost if you go to a four-year college. I am glad to have decided to come here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Northern Essex has three branches and is currently expanding. There's a campus in Haverhill which is the main campus. Lawrence also has a campus in the heart of the city that is being expanded and expected to be ready for next year. In Lawrence as well there's a small extension of the Lawrence campus at Riverwalk. Slowly but surely it's growing and expected to grow in numbers in the coming future.
Great for these types of students
It's great for students of all types. You will find something for everyone and if there isn't you can request it to be made possible.
Clubs and Activities
There's over 20 clubs to choose from and if there isn't you can start your own club it's that easy.
Campus Safety
We have security boxes throughout the campus for safety and peace of mind. There's personnel on campus during school sessions at all times. It's very safe to come to a night class and not feel scared in any way.

Am learning a lot
because of the small classes. You get one-on-one interaction with the teachers. You learn more by the way the class is set up. Its organized and well prepared.
Am enjoying being here
the surroundings make it a peaceful place to be in and the wildlife is so close to you as well. Its clean and the campus is not so big but not too small. Its just right for me.
Bang for the buck
Well, I pay with financial aid so I don't pay for anything. Books can cost you if you don't have financial aid. But from what I heard from my classmates who don't have financial aid; is that this college is less expensive than the other colleges around Lawrence, Methuen, and Andover.
Great for these types of students
Students who love being near or close to the out doors. Students who learn more with a teacher who's humble, kind, and understanding. Students who can obtain more info when the teacher is there to answer their questions. Students who don't want to be in a big campus but not a small one either. Students who just want to go to college for a year or two. Students who want to start off slow and at an easy pace before going into a four-year college or university.
