I learned how it is to be on your own and how different it is to be away from the people who you used to depend on the most when you were back at home. I learned a lot about how to manage time and money because being a student living on campus can be very expensive and of time's essence. You have to learn to make time to have fun because you have to stay so focused on doing homework and meeting deadlines. I learned educationally as well. It is a really nice campus and everyone there is so friendly and helpful. There is also a lot of opportunities to get involved on campus. There is also a lot of diversity throughout the school

Great school, place where you can get a 2nd chance, They offer a chance program that allows students with a low gpa and act score to prove themselves. I got in that way I am now a honors students, with 4.0 gpa and it’s only my freshmen year. I went from a 2.7 gpa to a 4.0 there is no way to fail unless you want to. They offer tutors and counselor that are on hand all the time. My only issue is that with all the great work I have achieved at this school for for example, (my essays are being published to next year school book for English) I am from a single family home with a disabled parent and I can’t afford to continue without help. So I’ll have to drop out because NIU does not offer help for students financially just opportunity to show themselves how great they can be.

NIU is a pretty great school. The professors are great and what isn't in walking distance has bus stops. The people are awesome, too.

This college is great for commuting students who wish to have good teachers and a small campus. It is better for self-starters and go-getters, as there is limited assistance in moving through the graduation process (e.g. what class progression you need for graduation and how to get there). Even though some lower-level classes are harder than they need to be, there are class-act and top-notched teachers and programs here - you just need to find that diamond in the rough! Also, they have FREE buses to the students that are run for and by the college to get you almost anywhere in the DeKalb/Sycamore area!

NIU is in a nice and quiet area. The staff all seem positive and willing to help all students. Their chance program is outstanding and gives all students a chance to get accepted to a university.

It's a good school, if you're looking for the big public four year. The tuition isn't too out of hand, compared to some other schools. The education is what you make of it.

Northern Illinois University has a fantastic campus that is always cleaned and well-maintained. The classes are challenging but extremely informational. I am glad I chose to do my undergraduate studies here.
