Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

Out-of-State Tuition Out-of-state tuition is the tuition charged by institutions to those students who do not meet the state's or institution's residency requirements. Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

Compared to other Universities around )(University of Michigan, Wayne State university) the tuition is very reasonable. Oakland was very generous with financial aid, and they were quick to offer me work study opportunities. You also get allot more than just tuition. As an Oakland student, you have free access to the fitness center, and many other free activities going on everyday on campus.
Stacey from Lutz, FL
Oakland is a very affordable school, that is the number one reason i chose Oakland. Students at Oakland like to call the school Oakfree. This is because Oakland loves to give things out to students, including free parking, free application for entry, no extra lab fees and many scholarships to fit your academic needs and expenses.
Yewande from Warren, MI
I'm not sure what this means. I do have to say, if you're a raging party animal, don't come to Oakland. I love Oakland so much because there's really no partying; it's a very safe, quiet, laid-back campus. There's a lot surrounding it, but it still reminds me of being home in the country. You can find people, but you can also avoid them if you want, which I like.
Kaylee
Oakland University strives for low costs. One of my favorite parts of coming here is that there is very few addition fees. This includes free laundry and no parking passes!
Krystal from Farmington Hills, MI
Tuition prices are going up--but at OU they are still more affordable than other universities.
