Categories Comments What to do for fun There is a new shopping center across from the college. The city of Purcelville is small but Leesburg is bigger.
Tips for prospective students If the above sentences intrigue you, go and check it out!
In three sentences Firm biblical foundation undergirds every class. The academic rigor is impressive but if you put your mind to it then it is very worth it. There is a God-honoring atmosphere that fosters excellence and the search for Truth.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Sexist. They don't hire women.
Clubs and Activities Mostly forensics: debate, mock trial, moot court, etc. Soccer and Basketball teams, and Eden Troupe (drama).
Great for these types of students Homeschooled, debaters who use bluebook cases and think they know everything, students who study for fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Guys who get engaged are thrown into Lake Bob (our campus pond), a.k.a. bobtized. There are no security cameras in the stairwells. I heard some great stories about the elevator in D5.
Bang for the buck Ehh....first two years are core curriculum (a bunch of classical liberal arts stuff that is basically a huge waste of money, so don't come here unless you/your parents are ready to throw away 20-40 thousand dollars), but I hear the upper level courses are amazing.
What to do for fun Swing dancing happens a lot (though not on-campus), bowling, movies, or hang out in the student lounge in the BHC.
Food and Dining Cafeteria is smaller (proportional to the school, I suppose), but even vegetarians can usually find something to eat. They're very accommodating to gluten free students as well.
Dorm Life Late night study parties are where it's at, and you can always find people hanging out in the lobby, the lounge, or in a friend's dorm room. Having all grade levels live together means you can usually just go right next door for advice from an upperclassman, which is always helpful.
Academic Rigor Don't expect to pass your classes if you slack on homework and reading assignments!
Tips for prospective students Visit campus, and talk to actual students (not just the tour guides). I give a more honest opinion when I'm not on the administration's clock. PHC is great, but only if it is a good fit for you, so figuring that out is very important.
In three sentences Patrick Henry College is a very unique college experience, that I doubt you can find anywhere else. The best aspects are the great community and the amazing professors, and the worst aspects are cliques and gossip, a large core curriculum, and an uptight administration. However, if you're looking for a career in government or law, you can expect excellent preparation at PHC.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities The college places little emphasis on its sports program, which is probably obvious to anyone who has heard about or witnessed one of its athletic events. However, the forensic activities at the college make up for its subpar athletic department. PHC has the best Moot Court record of any college in the United States and has won six out of the last eight National Championship Tournaments.
Great for these types of students This college is great for dedicated Christians, conservatives, homeschoolers, ambitious young people intent on influencing the world around them, and the brilliantly-minded or hard workers looking for an excellent classical liberal arts education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Bobtisms. Definitely the most fun and well-known tradition on campus. When a girl gets engaged (a fairly common occurrence at this college...), the female students congregate in one of the dorm lounged for a candlelight ceremony, where chocolate is served, the ring is shown, and the bride-to-be is revealed. When one of the guys gets engaged (also not an uncommon occurrence), his closest friends arrange a surprise kidnapping, haul him to the flagpole where others pray for him and his future marriage, and dunk (bobtize) him in Lake Bob as the campus watches.
What to do for fun Believe it or not, the dining hall is considered by many students to be the most fun place on campus. Hanging out for an hour over a meal--talking, laughing, procrastinating school work--is a great way to relax and recharge.
Food and Dining The dining hall is the most complained about aspect of campus life at PHC. While there are a lot of options (including healthy ones), considering the small size of campus, there are certain foods that most people learn to stay away from (vegetables that aren't cooked until they are tender, etc.). Most, if not all, students agree that the food is not worth what they are required to pay for it, but I have yet to find a student who appears to be starving to death. Also, having old-fashioned, scoop-it-yourself ice cream once a week and unlimited chocolate milk at every meal tends to make everything better.
Dorm Life I can't imagine dorm life being any better than it is at PHC. I had always thought I would hate living in a dorm and did hate it when I visited another college for a couple of days during my senior year of highschool. At PHC, however, everybody is so close-knit and friendly that, after living on campus for one semester, I would never consider living off campus for the rest of my time there.
Academic Rigor I retained a 4.0 GPA throughout highschool, scored a 32 on the ACT when I was seventeen, qualified for Bright Flight in the state of Missouri, and was accepted to the Honors College at an Arkansas university; however, I have still found the academic program at PHC to be challenging and stimulating.
In three sentences The culture and environment at Patrick Henry College is unlike anything I have heard of or experienced at other colleges or universities. A small college still in its early years of operation, the majority of students there are bonded closely to each other and to the college itself. Even those who are most attached to PHC realize that it is far from perfect, as are the people working at and attending the college, and no doubt there are students in attendance who would provide harsh criticism of the institution; however, most of the students report tremendous growth--spiritually, academically, and socially--during their years at PHC.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The town is small and extremely safe; the PHC security force is visible but practically unneeded. I have never felt unsafe on or around campus.
Greek Life There are no fraternities or sororities on PHC's campus.
Clubs and Activities Forensics activities- mock trial, moot court, and debate- dominate. Although PHC only has two sports, basketball and soccer, intramural frisbee gets a lot of unofficial playing time.
Great for these types of students Academically focused; homeschoolers; Christians; anyone interested in a government-oriented career.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When guys get engaged, they get thrown into Lake Bob. Girls get a candlelight ceremony. Faith and Reason lectures happen every semester.
Bang for the buck Ugh. College is expensive, and PHC is no exception. Worth it in theory, but it's still painful to pay tuition.
What to do for fun Washington, DC is close by with lots to do. There's the zoo, the smithsonians, and sporting events- Wizards and Capitals, especially. And there are campus-wide events almost every weekend.
Food and Dining Unfortunately, you can't get around buying the meal plan. The food isn't always great, but there's always salad. They've made an effort to be better lately, too, and improvement has been consistent.
Dorm Life The campus is small, but the dorms are new and clean and comfortable. The RA team is caring and very available. There is a curfew, though.
Academic Rigor This school is a challenge but so worth it! You learn way more than you thought possible- it's invigorating. You get out what you put into it.
Tips for prospective students Don't pull all-nighters- sleep helps grades. Get involved in the community on campus. Don't underestimate the necessity of staying healthy.
In three sentences Patrick Henry is a small, close-knit and community-concerned school. Its high standards and tightly focused academic programs make it a really valuable education and a worthwhile challenge. The faculty are world-class but available and caring for all of their small classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any Christain who isn't afraid of thinking. Homeschoolers will do well here, but so will anyone who has prepared themselves.
Bang for the buck The school is pricey, but the academic excellence would be more than worth the money.
Food and Dining The food here is beyond amazing. It tasted like it was catered, but it was school food!
Academic Rigor The Classical Liberal Arts program is as excellent and rigorous as the top schools in the nation.
Tips for prospective students Read the classics now and train yourself to think about what you're reading.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who love Christ, people interested in impacting the culture around them for Christ (especially in the fields of politics, law, and other classical liberal arts), serious-minded/conscientious students, perhaps homeschoolers.
Bang for the buck PHC is slightly pricy, but has good merit scholarships that can help cut down the price for those who work hard to prepare for getting in.
Will enjoy being here The atmosphere of a bunch of like-minded, serious, but also fun-loving students will make it very enjoyable, despite its small size. There is plenty to do there, and D.C. is not too far away.
Will learn a lot PHC is the top on my college list right now, and this is mostly linked to having great, mentally stimulating and challenging courses that

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Homeschooled students, Christian students, Highly-motivated and disciplined students will thrive here.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for the small size, but don't let that stop you!
Bang for the buck Job and intern placement is higher than any other school.
Am enjoying being here Bored will no longer be in your dictionary. The proximity to D.C. leaves no room for boredom.
Am learning a lot The academic rigor is challenging, surpassing that of other ivy league schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Georgetown.
