Categories Comments Campus Safety Love campus security and feel totally safe there.
Greek Life Join Phi Theta Kappa, Xi Pi! We are the Florida region champs!
Clubs and Activities Involvement can be sketchy. Student government is a tight-knit group that is hard to break in to.
Great for these types of students Transfer students, nursing students, occupational therapy students
Bang for the buck Great value school. Don't use your credit based financial aid here if you can help it (Florida Prepaid)
What to do for fun It's Polk County. The best place to hang out is Lakeland during holidays and weekends, and chances are you'll make a friend who works at Legoland who can take you, and everyone you know, for free.
Food and Dining Well, it's not the Waldorf-Astoria
Dorm Life No dorms here!
Academic Rigor You will be challenged... but probably not too challenged.
Tips for prospective students Keep a notebook where you paste your degree course plan, copies of all your student numbers and notebooks, and keep a strong hold on your educational plan. DO NOT let an advisor do all the work on this, because they can sometimes miss REALLY IMPORTANT parts of your educational plan until after the fact (sometimes right up until graduation, delaying your transfer process)
In three sentences This school is a great opportunity for students worried about finances. The access to teachers and to resources is great here! Just make sure you keep track of your own educational plan and don't rely on the advisors too much.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I am currently a high school senior, and I am planning on attending Polk State College. I have been to their Fall Open House and their meeting that they held at my school and I also saw them again today at school for a FAFSA meeting. I am interested mainly in the nursing program as I want to major in the medical field as a Registered Nurse. I have also recently won a 3-credit scholarship so I am excited what 2018 has to come!

Categories Comments Food and Dining On campus options for food are lacking (both in Winter Haven & Lakeland). However, there are plenty of places to grab lunch near campus. Lakeland campus is close to Wawa, Wendys, Taco Bell, and McDonalds. The Winter Haven Campus is a five minute drive from anything downtown offers.
Academic Rigor Classes are, for the most part, easy and achievable. Just make sure to double check RateMyProfessor before committing your schedule.
Tips for prospective students Protip: Go to Winter Haven for a shorter wait at guidance/admissions. Also, different campuses offer different majors and classes. For example, the Winter Haven campus has a music department and the Lakeland campus doesn't.
In three sentences Polk State College is a great stepping stone in the college experience but it should not be your final destination in terms of education. Classes are a hit or miss heavily depending on the instructor and the department. There are multiple professors that have poor reviews on RateMyProfessor.com and instead of improving their course based on that and the "anonymous" college feedback system, scoff at it. The Lakeland campus will have you waiting hours at Guidance / Admissions. But putting all of that aside, PSC has a great location, offers a ton of different courses at each campus, and generally has a positive atmosphere.

Categories Comments In three sentences the teachers here are pretty great for the most part but the administration is horrible. bad attitude and they don't answer the phone to help you. if they do answer the phone, expect someone imcompetent to help you on the other end. i applied for a student loan way earlier than expected and i still haven't received one. i called and called and i had one person from polk tell me that i will be getting it in a week. nearly a month goes by and i still don't have it. i call again and the next person tells me the loan hasn't even been processed!? talk about a waste of time and energy on both ends. such impotence with the staff pool, it just baffles me. their was also one instance where the advisor told me i needed to take the classes for my major to get into a specific program when in fact i didn't.... money hungry college or just imcoptence? i wouldn't wish for my worst enemy to go through what i went through with psc administration. the teachers are great on the other hand.

Categories Comments In three sentences The Campus is a fairly large size and has a easy to navigate and attractive layout with plenty of greenery. It is conveniently located in Winter Haven, near multiple food establishments, convenience stores, places of worship, etc., and has many necessities on campus as well, such as a cafeteria, library, multiple art rooms, media center, etc.. All of the students and professors I met while visiting were friendly and welcoming.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Cost efficient and high quality; you couldn't ask for more.
What to do for fun Going to the movies, visiting farmers markets, paintball, and a large selection of restaurants. That's just the Lake Wales and Winter Haven campuses. Lakeland is full of things to do, from museums to murder mystery dinner theater.
Food and Dining About what you would expect from a school lunch: nothing to write home about, but it's pretty good.
Academic Rigor All the professors may not have doctorates, but they really do love the subjects they teach, not to mention their dedication to the students. Most of the teachers here want you to succeed and will do whatever the can to facilitate that if you're willing to put in the work. Every bunch has it's bad apples, bu these are few and far between.
Tips for prospective students If you have a question, a problem, or just want some advice on your major or career, then ask! The faculty is always happy to lend a helping hand on every campus.
In three sentences Polk State is supportive and full of dedicated professionals, both student and teacher.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck This school is great to go to if your going into nursing or you're just getting your first 2 years done. A lot of people come here for there Associates Degree and transfer somewhere else.
What to do for fun Someone told me once that they didnt want to go to Polk because it felt like an actual college and not a community college. Every tuesday theres something going on like free pizza or event. When the semester begins they have a thing called clubapalooza where all the sports and clubs line up on the lawn with free food and literally everyones there. The theatre program is very fun. There always looking for people to join so i recommend taking Acting I as a class.
Food and Dining On campus there's only really one place to get hot food and it's really not that good but off campus theres tons of stuff thats only about 5-10 minutes away.
Academic Rigor Polk State is an amazing school if you are looking to go into the medical field like nursing. The nursing program is extremely good. A lot of classes are extremely easy to take. If you just show up and study every so often, you'll pass with good grades.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security carts regularly patrol the campus at all hours and there are many blue emergency poles that anyone can get to in case of emergency to call for help.
Greek Life Phi Theta Kapa is the only Greek related club that I've heard of at Polk State, although there may be more. There are no fraternities or sororities.
Clubs and Activities There are many different types of clubs offered, though I've never considered joining a club as I have never had the extra time to commit to one.
Great for these types of students Students who can't commit to being enrolled full time, students who work day shifts, students who are on a budget, students who don't want to drive far for their education, etc-they're endless!
Bang for the buck PSC's competitive pricing keeps many families happy because tuition is about $125 per credit hour while at many other colleges their tuition may be around $6,000 per one semester. At Polk State, my average tuition has varied between $700-$1,500 depending on the amount of credit hours I'm enrolled in.
What to do for fun There are many clubs at PSC such as SALO, which takes care of all studen activites and they plan many special events. There is also Phi Theta Kapa which is for elite members that plan cool trips to see special speakers.
Food and Dining The cafeteria offers top notch meals varying between Mexican, Italian and American cuisines. They even offer special prices to Collegiate students who are apart of the early enrollment between High School and College-level.
Academic Rigor Polk State classes push you as a student to do better in all of your academic classes and the professors encourage attendance to all classes in order to receive the credit you deserve.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend registering for classes AS SOON AS they're available or else you may not get the professor you wish. Also, I would recommend trying online classes and hybrid classes because they mix up the regular classes and give you a little something different.
In three sentences Polk State College has always been there for me no matter what I change my major to. Their professors are phenomenal, facilities very close to my house, and their amount of degrees continues to increase over the years.

Clubs and Activities Math club, etc
Great for these types of students Medical and law enforcers.
Bang for the buck It's worth the cost.
What to do for fun Musicians come to play and there are even student activities each month.
Food and Dining Expensive food, but good quality.
Dorm Life There are no dorms, just cheap apartments nearby.
Academic Rigor Not too easy, not too hard.
Tips for prospective students Time management is key. It might seem easy, but if that's your thought process you will get behind when you really need it.

Food and Dining The cafe has good food, mostly grilled cheese and burgers and an entree that changes daily.
Dorm Life No dorms on campus or near campus.
Academic Rigor Most classes are easy as long as you can pass the tests. With quite a few courses, tests are the only grades you will receive.
Tips for prospective students Take humanities and arts courses for your elective courses. They are fun, easy, and useful in the future.
In three sentences Most courses are easy, although there are some professors who are rude or hardcore. Admissions office is hardly helpful.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs that are very active.
Great for these types of students Dual-enrolled high school students, students who aren't ready for a big university or campus life
Bang for the buck I'm dual enrolled, so classes are free to me! From what I've heard, financial aid is pretty good. The education obviously isn't Ivy League quality or anything, but if you choose the right professors, you can learn a lot.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is pretty disgusting, but there are some alright snacks.
Dorm Life No dorms, so...
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are pretty easy, and some of the teachers have really low expectations and don't challenge students at all. However, there are some professors who are really great.

What to do for fun Becoming a part of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Food and Dining There is a cafeteria that can accommodate your hunger needs.
Dorm Life There is no on campus housing.
Academic Rigor Wide variety of classes from campus classes to hybrid classes.
Tips for prospective students If eligible to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, I would highly recommend seizing the opportunity.

Categories Comments What to do for fun PSC has alot of sports programs but I most attend classes. They usually have some kinda of campus activity going on.
Food and Dining The winter haven campus has a nice eating area but i don't think lakeland has one (I have never really looked though)
Dorm Life I dont think PSC offers dorms
Academic Rigor I have never had a issue learning what i needed to learn except for one anatomy class the teacher had a 20 percent grade curve on every test just to get people to a C and most people still didnt get one.
Tips for prospective students Lakeland campus does not always offer as many classes as the Winter Haven campus, and always go to campus if you need to speak with a financial aid officer or admin officer; they are very busy and almost never return calls.
In three sentences PSC has a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Application process is easy, and school is very affordable. This school offers many degrees and flexible schedules in which to attend classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt safe on the campus, there is usually a security personel in sight and there is also emergency panic stations set up all along the parking lots. It is also well lit at night and there is no suspicious activity that I have ever noticed the past two years I went to school.
Clubs and Activities Not too many clubs or activities, this campus is very small and many people are working or going to another school so there isn't much to do on campus.
Great for these types of students I think this is perfect for anyone who wants to dual-enroll in high school or those that a big university didn't work out for them (like me!)
Food and Dining This school could really use a cafeteria update or higher quality food served. There is also a lack of variety when it comes to food and drinks.
Dorm Life There are no dorms available on campus.
Academic Rigor Many classes were easy but some were very difficult depending on the subject.
Tips for prospective students If you work or have kids or are a high-school student thinking about dual-enrolling, do it. It is a great school for the price and quality of the courses.
In three sentences Well worth every penny, caring professors, many choices for class times.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Since I have been at Polk Sate College, I hae yet to witness or hear about any fellow student being harmed or harassed while on campus. The security continually make consistent rounds across the college to ensure this safety standard.
Bang for the buck No matter what, you'll definitely get your money's worth here at Polk State College for it is relatively cheap and knowledgeable within their major criteria because no matter where you attend COMP 1 is still COMP 1.
What to do for fun 1. We have a baseball, basketball, and volleyball team here at Polk and we are champions amongst champions 2. There are often times when students collect into the Student Center and play large scale card games( i.e. Magic, Yu-gi-oh etc.) 3.We have clubs here at Polk that both help you learn and also allow the access of fun within them. Examples would be SLAM, SGA, Phi Theta Kappa, Film Club, Book Club, and Polk State Salo.
Food and Dining The food here isn't terrible, but it is quite pricy for what you're getting.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here at Polk State College
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the academic rigor of the classes may vary accordingly to coincide with the importance of your major. For instance, if your major delves in the realm of biological research, expect to adhere to a plethora of research assignments on past medical studies in order to further your understanding before venturing out into the real world.
Tips for prospective students 1. If you are coming from a regualr high school and found that you did not work very hard, prepare yourself for rigorous assignments and research. 2. Try not to overload yourself with too many classes or you'll destroy your GPA 3. Always ask the professor questions if you're unsure about an assignment or simply want to refresh your memory in class
In three sentences Here at Polk State College, I find that it is a comfortable learning site that allows students to create a more personal relationship with their professor. In essence, the environment is similar to that of a small university that has constant traffic of alumni attending. Overall, I really enjoy the campus life at Polk State College and I enjoy the warm personalities of the professors here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety When attending, one lock down occurred due to a student calling in a phony bomb threat. Security and police wasted no time to ensure student safety. Lakeland Campus actually shares property with a Police Headquarters, so you are very safe from harm.
Greek Life No Greek life, as far as I know.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are very active in the school and constantly providing food and entertainment for the students during the day. Students are very appreciative and active in events, as well.
Great for these types of students Student-Athletes looking to start their career off at a JUCO level. Sports at PSC are top of their divisions and have a great reputation, so Universities will be eager to sweep you up!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When I attended there was yoga in the trees. Not sure if it's still there but it was a great experience to have!
Bang for the buck Places around town are not too pricey! Food, laundrymats, movies, ice cream. Everything is decently priced and affordable for college students.
What to do for fun Intramural sports! There is always something interesting happening at the school. IM Football playing a pro team, student events where you make shirts, art, etc. Night events, too! Attending PSC, you will never be bored.
Food and Dining The food is great and priced fairly. Vending machines are available in close proximity, also.
Dorm Life There is no dorms so you'd either live with family or rent a house/apartment in the nearby area.
Academic Rigor The professors at Polk are the best I've encountered. They'll intelligent and genuinely care about the success of their student. You are taught to remember, not taught to pass a test.
Tips for prospective students Give the Lakeland campus a tour if it's close enough for you to attend. Beautiful campus, great people, great environment to get your education at.
In three sentences Attending Polk State College was the best experience I've had in my life. I've made life long friends and earned an honors degree to build my education on. I only wish it was a University so I could finish my education with them.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Polk State College has stuff happening all the time on campus. Everyone is very entertaining and if you aren't a very social person you can still find something fun to do, i'm sure.
Food and Dining Food is not too pricey and it's basically fast food without greasiness. You are better off bringing some awesome homemade Italian food from home like I do all the time.
Dorm Life As far as I know, Polk State College does not have dorms on campus. I am not sure how good the apartments near the school are either.
Academic Rigor The classes here are only difficult if you don't try. Online classes will be the hardest to keep up with and classes on campus are informative. They aren't too easy, but aren't difficult beyond comprehension.
Tips for prospective students Apply early! The sooner you apply the less stressful it will be when you have to deal with admissions and financial aid because it is always frustrating. The feeling after you get it done is very rewarding. haha
In three sentences You get what you pay for and if you spend wisely and educate yourself of the professors that are available you will be happy here. So far my first semester has not been too much trouble and my professors know what they are teaching. As of right now, I am satisfied with Polk State College as my College.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Seems safe.. relatively small campus and security guards are friendly and helpful.
Bang for the buck Im hearing its cheap so I guess that makes sense.. My first semester there the teaching faculty seems ok.. but the administration is a complete and utter JOKE. Expect tons of headaches and hour long wait times to speak to someone face to face.
Food and Dining Cafeteria is good
Academic Rigor Depends on Prof. just like any other school.
Tips for prospective students Expect 4 to 5 visits to financial aid in person in order to get your finances in order. COMPLETE lack of competency/ concern. When you call fin aid you speak to a sub contracted call center. Add drop at the end of the first week! Never been to a school with such a quick withdrawal with refund date. They obviously know they are the only school in the economically depressed county and they take advantage of it. Profits over students. Lack of accountability. Might be good for freshman/soph but DEF not upper levels! Cheap and cheap for a reason.
In three sentences Obvious that it just became a 4 year institution. Extremely disorganized admissions/ financial aid. Would not recommend.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is constantly patrolling the campus so it is pretty safe. Only one incident has occurred there but no one was hurt.
Greek Life The only Greek like available is for students of high GPA who are notified of the chance to be a part of the club.
Clubs and Activities There is a good variety of clubs available so basically every student should be able to find something they enjoy.
Great for these types of students This school is great for Nursing students! Polk State College has one of the leading Nursing programs in the state.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Unlike in high school the library seems to be the hot spot on campus.
Bang for the buck The school is worth the money.
What to do for fun Other than joining clubs and going on the computer there really is nothing to do for fun on campus. However the theatre department is absolutely AMAZING! If you love to act you should definitely audition for the numerous shows.
Food and Dining The food here is actually kind of expensive at the student cafe. The hot food items are 95% of the time fried in a tub of grease used all day so it's not exactly the healthiest. Not speaking for anyone else the food made me sick whenever I would purchase it so I stopped buying food there except for the fruit cups which are $2.75 for a small cup.
Dorm Life There is no dorms as this is a community college so students will need to make other living arrangements.
Academic Rigor The classes are not tough they are actually kind of high school level. The difficulty kicks in when you get into higher math and science classes.
Tips for prospective students One thing to keep in mind is that although it is like a high school setting students must keep in mind that unlike high school an assignment is expected on the due date as almost all professors do not accept late or make-up work. Also students need to show up to class because with a lot of professors they will drop you after missing 3 days of class.
In three sentences Polk State College is overall a good school. The atmosphere is laid back and it feels like being back in high school except the people are more mature. The professors are cool, most of them, and the classroom settings are good because there is usually no more than 30 students in a classroom unless it's a lecture class so the professors have time to help students individually.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Field trips all the time! Take an oceanography class and get up close and personal through the Florida Aquarium, SeaWorld and the beach!
Bang for the buck There is more to college than just maintaining the 2 hour lectures from your professors; friendships. At Polk, you can gain friends in an instant especially with all the activities around campus.
What to do for fun Around campus, we have exciting things all the time. From bouncey houses to Lions, we know how to make school enjoyable.
Food and Dining Great food in the PSC Cafe! Try it even though it can be pricey.
Dorm Life Absolutely no dorm life! Find an apartment and a roommate!
Academic Rigor The professors are a great help when it comes to understanding different aspects of a subject.
Tips for prospective students Do not take this time for granted. Although it is not an university, it helps you out a whole lot to absorb the beginning college experience to find out if you are really ready for the real thing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are security officers driving their golf carts around, and there are also red (buttons? phones?) that I fortunately have never had to use which connect you to security when you press the button/pick up the phone.
Great for these types of students I think Polk State is great for any type of student. You can use it as a kick-off point to move on to another college later, or simply get an AA degree. The sporty students can play games on the grass or workout in the gym, and the social students can hang with friends outside of the student center. The studious student can study in a quiet library.
Bang for the buck I am very happy with Polk State and the education I am receiving there. The reason Polk State doesn't get five stars from me is because there are some classes (and professors) that I have not been happy with.
What to do for fun For fun at Polk State I volunteer in the lab and greenhouse, but for most people you could play soccer (or other sports) on the grounds or socialize with friends. Some people smoke on-campus, or listen to their music. You can also bring your own laptop and use it on-campus nearly anywhere.
Food and Dining I haven't eaten the food at Polk State, so I can't really say how it is except for rating it based on what other people have told me. It does smell really good and other people seem to enjoy it.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at Polk State, which doesn't bother me because I live fairly close -- but dorms would probably be nice for those who live farther.
Academic Rigor Four stars because although I learned a lot in most of my classes, some I felt like I was wasting my time and money. I worked the hardest in my science and math classes, but worked hard to pass other classes too --and I'm sure many other students would say the same.
Tips for prospective students Check out prospective professors from former students and websites rating them before signing up for the class -- this may save your grade as well as your money! Try to avoid new-to-teaching professors unless you've heard good things; they may be learning their skills on you! Take required classes first, such as English, Math, and Science. Then when you move on to another college you hopefully won't have to pay to take them again.
In three sentences Polk State has some awesome professors, who really work hard to make sure you understand the material. On the flip side, there are professors at Polk State who don't care one way or another, to them it's just another paycheck. From what I've seen and heard, Polk State is a typical college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel extremely safe on campus and see security guards walking through campus at all times. There are emergency poles placed all over campus as well. If anything happens on campus, every student and faculty member is alerted through an automated phone call system, text message, and emails.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs, activities, events, and community service programs are available. I hope to join the creative writing club next term.
Bang for the buck After a six year hiatus from school, PSC has made me not only feel welcomed, but also made me feel empowered, like anything is possible.
What to do for fun Many clubs, events, and organizations are available through PSC. International study programs are also available through certain classes as well, like a trip to Paris or the Bahamas.
Food and Dining Cafeteria has many options available for food and drinks, and many vending machines are located throughout campus. Many different forms of payment are accepted, including card readers on the vending machines. Easy access and many options for food and drinks equals an A+ from me!
Dorm Life I live off campus because I am a single parent and I am unsure if PSC actually has dorms.
Academic Rigor Some classes are delivered in shorter periods of time and can be quite hard at times. As long as students stay organized and keep up to date on all assignments and due dates, the work load is manageable. Some classes and professors seem difficult but challenge you to do and be your best.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions or speak to academic and financial aid advisors often. Wander the campus to familiarize yourself with it. Utilize all tools and programs available to you, like the quiet study areas, free wifi internet, free computer access, and free tutoring.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel pretty safe here. I usually leave my stuff lying around campus, and I always seem to get it back and still in the very same place I left it, I would not suggest making it a habit though, you never know.

Great for these types of students Great for any type of student, you don't have to be exceptionally bright, but you have to be willing to put in the work.

Food and Dining Personally, I liked the food here. It is not anything gourmet, but they do have some delicious food, depends on what you like to eat.
Dorm Life You cannot dorm here, this institution does not offer it. It's meant for being of convenience to people by having multiple campuses in neighboring cities.
Academic Rigor This all depends on the prospective student you are. You have to be willing to put the work in, and believe me it will pay off in the long run. Classes are not extremely difficult, but they vary per teacher and subject.
Tips for prospective students I believe that anyone/everyone should come here, its not demeaning to go to a Community College, its a good experience, and all of the classes provided here are affordable, which is good when you are on a strict budget.
In three sentences I rate Polk State College a overall score of 10/10. This is a great school to attend, as a precursor to other Universities, it helps you prepare for the other half of the battle, which means obtaining your bachelor's degree at the University level. I'm glad I took the opportunity when I did, to become a student here at this prestigious institution.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Polk State has definitely been worth the money. Several teachers there are experienced in the subjects they teach and can apply a more genuine real-world experience to their classes.
What to do for fun There are several sports events throughout the year between our baseball, basketball and soccer teams. There are also events put on during the school year that people can check out.
Food and Dining The students centers and picnic table areas are a nice touch to the campuses across the county. I haven't ate there often since I live nearby and this town is full of food places, but the food at PSC hasn't been the greatest when I have ate there.
Dorm Life We do not currently have dorms at PSC.
Academic Rigor Some classes can be more rigorous than others, but it's not usually a big deal. Mainly, the work can be done in a day or two and you rarely have papers longer than 5 pages.
Tips for prospective students For incoming students, it is definitely a great option if you don't want to leave home. The classes are cheaper than most places and you can actually end up making some money instead of going into debt from different scholarships while getting a BAS degree.
In three sentences Polk State is not the best college, but it is one that I am happy to be at. The staff cares about getting the students whatever help is needed and they listen to what is demanded. Thanks to them, our college is growing.

What to do for fun Polk State has an outstanding athletics department, and students can attend sporting events for free. There are also many clubs and organizations available.
Tips for prospective students Be organized! Organization is an essential part of academic succes. The other essential part? Do not procrastinate. It is quite easy to fall behind, and once you do, it begins a cycle very difficult to stop.
In three sentences Polk State College offers a university campus-type feel with a relatively small class size. Professors care about helping students learn, rather than just passing them. Polk State is a great way to get your Associate's or even Bachelor's degree, and stay local.

Categories Comments Campus Safety During the last year we had either two or three bomb threat but nothing happened.
Food and Dining I have only bought the school food once but they have refrigerated and heated food. There is not much variety in the food they serve.
Dorm Life There are no dorms for this school.
Academic Rigor The classes are not too difficult but the work and level of difficulty will depend on which teacher you are taking.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to go on ratemyprofessor.com and look up your teachers before signing up for their class to see what other students think about the teacher. This can be helpful to figure out if you think you can work well with the teacher or not.
In three sentences This school is very good for students who are unsure of which college or major they wish to pursue. If you major in Liberal Arts and get your general degree, then you can get all of those classes out of the way while trying to find out what you wish to major in. The prices for classes are much cheaper than other colleges which is helpful if you are on a tight budget.

Categories Comments Campus Safety At Polk State, we do have Security Guards that take their jobs very seriously. From ticketing cars who park illegally and irresponsibly to locking all the doors at night and patrolling the parking lots, I feel very safe going to night classes knowing that if I am in trouble, they could spot and find me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety All I'm going to say is there have been two bomb threats in the dozen or so times I had to repeatedly stop by to drop off more and more paperwork. With how horrible this school treats prospective students, I couldn't blame someone one bit for wanting to blow it up.
Clubs and Activities I tried contacting them in the beginning of my enrollment. I wanted to help in activities and really be a part of the school. Of the three messages I left over three weeks, not one single message was returned.
Great for these types of students If you want to self-mutilate, this is the college for you.
Bang for the buck This school couldn't pay me to go to it anymore. After how much of a hassle they've put me through, I am now enrolling in a different college that is much more professional, knowledgeable, answers their phones, and returns calls as necessary in a very timely manner.
What to do for fun I have no idea, because all my time was spent going through hassles of checking with advisors to make sure they were doing their job right, and jumping through endless hoops for them.
Food and Dining From the five students I've talked to while trying to get started at the college, they all suggested I stay away from the cafeteria.
Dorm Life Dorms don't exist on this campus, so can't rate anything above one star.
Academic Rigor They offer hardly any honors courses. The most challenging issue regarding their academics is to even find out what they offer, because their website doesn't provide information on your major when pursuing an AA towards a bachelors.
Tips for prospective students Do not waste your time here. Their advisors are poorly trained, do not even know what types of honors courses they have, don't process paperwork correctly, never answer their phones, and never return phone calls when you leave messages. Their financial aid department is even worse, and will ruin your chances of any financial help out of laziness and lack of expertise in their field.
In three sentences A college devoid of any assistance whatsoever. They do not return phone calls, do not let you know when they need additional information, and will cause you unneeded frustration. I would not recommend this college to my worst enemy.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Pretty cheap as far as education goes. Most of the teachers are helpful.
What to do for fun It's in Polk County, not a whole lot to do for fun. There is a student activity center in the cafeteria.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions.
In three sentences A great way to decide if college life is going to work for you. Most of the teachers are very laid back, but there are also quite a few bad apples who could care a less if you succeed or not.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I am on the softball team so I practice a lot in my free time, but other then that there's not much to do.
Food and Dining There is also no dining hall.
Dorm Life Since it is a two year school, there are no dorms.
Academic Rigor The work depends on the professor, some give you so much work that it feels like all you're ever doing is homework; while others give you no homework at all and your grade is simply test based.
Tips for prospective students Do not buy books from the book store, find out the names of the books you need and find them online, it will be much cheaper.
In three sentences Polk State College is like many other 2 year colleges, everyone is there for business. They do, however, have some activities to get students involved in their school. Most of the professors there are helpful and they seem like they really want their students to understand the information being taught.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i always feel safe and secure while on campus! have never had any problems.
Clubs and Activities interact club, member of many different highlander sport teams and preparing for college life..
Great for these types of students excellent for students that wish to stay close to home while working to achieve their academic goals.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus is very user friendly, easy to find every thing, clean, nice landscaping with ample parking.
Bang for the buck with having this opportunity to further my education the sky is the limit! if finances allow me to continue my education, i plan to give back to children in the form of educating them on proper dental hygiene and care that will last a lifetime.
What to do for fun i am on the tennis, swim and soccer teams and also an active interact club member. was in the marching band while being caption of the j.v. cheer squad (very rare). i love to spend time with family and friends in-between working part time at manny's chop house.
Food and Dining going to high school in honors and attending college makes me so hungry all of the time! i find it very helpful to eat a good breakfast, plenty of fruits, fresh vegetables, nuts during the day and a balanced dinner at home. the food on campus is wonderful however can be expensive.
Dorm Life i do not live in a dorm. living in the same county allows me to commute by car. however i am looking forward to the dorm life, therefore i can only rate 1 star at this time.
Academic Rigor academic classes/studies offer flexible schedules, qualified professional instructors, well informed and eager to assist staff that offers high quality education.
Tips for prospective students always ask questions if you do not know or are unsure of something. it helps to network with classmates while you are also making new friends. don't bite off more than you can chew! it can be overwhelming if you let it....
In three sentences being close to home offers comfort to me and very little expense associated with college life for my mom. i love the small class size that allows my instructor to work with us in depth.

Categories Comments Campus Safety both campuses are relatively safe, but a few threats have been called in over the years.
Bang for the buck polk state is affordable and offers a good education up to the associates level.
What to do for fun there is a gym, a library with computers, and a student center with a cafeteria and recreational area. from time to time, there are also some special events.
Food and Dining both campuses have available cafeterias and vending machines that offer a variety of food and beverages when students get hungry.
Dorm Life polk state doesn't do dorms.
Academic Rigor polk state is a recently converted community college, but the instructors know their materials and you will learn.
Tips for prospective students look into available degree programs early and don't get so caught up in graduating fast that you forget to enjoy yourself.
In three sentences polk state is an affordable college for anyone and offers a variety of courses. the times of classes allow a variety of students to attend, no matter the time constraints. the bachelors programs are limited, but earning an associates at psc is a good way to secure acceptance into a bigger university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are constantly patrol units in the parking lot, and the sheriff office in in the same block.
Clubs and Activities plenty of activities, but clubs can be hard to find. they are not greatly advertised on the lakeland campus.
Great for these types of students students who aren't sure what major they are pursuing or just need to finish their degree.
Bang for the buck it can definitely save money, but make sure the university you plan to transfer accepts their credits.
What to do for fun there are many campus activities and events, offering entertainment and free food. the only requirement is a student id.
Food and Dining there is a cafe on campus. it is overpriced and second rate, it is best to bring food or visit fast food joints in the area.
Academic Rigor you control the rigor yourself when you choose classes. you can take either the easy classes, or the challenging ones. but the requirements are never out of proportions.
Tips for prospective students make sure you sign up for classes as soon as possible, because they go quick. don't buy the book for the class until you talk to the professor, often the professor doesn't have you use the text book, with the exception of math classes.
In three sentences the class sizes are similar to what you experience in high school, and teachers are very adamant about offering their assistance. the school does whatever it can to supply you with the resources you will need. however, class options can be limited.

Categories Comments Campus Safety fairly well lit at night, emergency contacts available... some buildings are unlocked and empty at night. kind of scary when you're walking alone!
What to do for fun there are quite a few clubs and activities constantly involving students. makes time in between classes fun and exciting!
Food and Dining i don't eat at the school, but i've heard the food is decent.
Academic Rigor could be better, though i have found it depends solely on the professor. i have been pleasantly surprised in several cases.
Tips for prospective students don't be afraid to take classes that will challenge you!
In three sentences a good starter school to get the basics out of the way, psc is a great alternative to a four year school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I suppose it is safe enough. Lots of people though.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities I have no idea how to join and no one ever tells you about what is going on. There are flyers, but the web site hasn't shown me much and the advisors haven't said anything about the activities.
Great for these types of students It is ok for college freshmen; it gives you a beginning and you are not there for long since it is mostly a two-year college. It is cheap compared to other schools, but it is nothing particularly special.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I haven't noticed any.
Bang for the buck The area is a little expensive and there are not many deals or sales that are good enough to go shopping. The school itself is priced ok I suppose.
What to do for fun The Cobb theater is about 20 minutes away, there are some shopping and restaraunts around 20 minutes away too. Tons of fast-food close by.
Food and Dining I have not had any of the food here but the cafeteria is not too bad.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor I only take two classes at a time, but it is possible to take three comfortably here. The rigor is not too bad but you still learn a lot.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you stay on top of the enrollment process and financial aid stuff. They will take their sweet time doing their job. Watch out for possible variables that could postpone your enrollment involving the financial aid department or your orientation.
In three sentences It is ok. There are great teachers, but crappy staff in the main office. Most of the advisors do not seem to care.

Bang for the buck If you are a Florida resident you will save a lot of money. Financial Aid is great, so please sign up for it on the first of every January. It will help you save from money. Trust me.
Am enjoying being here I like the school and all. but everybody is doing something. I don't really have friends. I am pretty much by myself, but then again I am not a bubbly person that just go up to people. Other than that PSC is a enjoyable place.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot it PSC. I am actually learning things that i should learned in high school. The teachers are very patient. I recommend this school.

Bang for the buck Polk State College is a great price. Along with many scholarships I have not had to pay very much at all.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy every minute at PSC, I love going to school. The professors are great at what they do and the atmosphere is always exciting.
Am learning a lot Polk State College is a great two year college. I was completely against going because I wanted to go to a four university, but my mind was changed because of how great it is to attend PSC. The college is very helpful, great tutors and professors. The activities are amazing, so many clubs and organizations.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students High school attendees, college freshmen who seek an A.A. or A.S. as their highest level of education but want to feed right into a program, and students who seek preparation for a university.
Tips for prospective students I suggest researching and investigating your career interests. As a high school graduate be ready to declare your major shortly after your first semester so that you don't spend wasted time and money on credits that your degree, combined with the college grad. requirements and possible university applications, won't count.
Bang for the buck Public high school students who enroll in the collegiate high school receive full tuition for classes and course materials from the college. Dual-enrolled high school students receive full class tuition but are expected to pay for course materials. The latter is also only allowed to apply for 9 credit hours per semester, as they are expected to make up the rest of their high school credits (per semester) through their high school of choice, be it public or home school affiliated.
Am enjoying being here The Lakeland campus for PSC hosts a varied age range of students; however the majority of students are high school juniors and seniors, college freshman and soon-to-be program graduates. Recent remodeling and additions to the campus buildings have improved the campus facilities. This campus is also relatively small, keeping all buildings within walking distance. The grounds are well maintained as well as the interiors of all facilities. Tutors are included in your tuition, so you do not pay extra out-of-pocket expenses to utilize their services. The student activities board is very active and the athletic department is ranked nationally.
Am learning a lot I have enjoyed nearly every course. Most of the professors or interested in their students success.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People with time on their hands.
Tips for prospective students Don't go here. Unless you have two years to wait to go to school or you have people on the inside to speed things up.
Bang for the buck They are cheap but now I'm starting to know why. They can't enroll anyone due to their financial aid lackeys.
Will enjoy being here They have nice grounds but their just not coordinated to be able for me to get enrolled into classes. I've already missed two semesters of classes because they won't keep up with my Pel-grant application. And I was already approved for a $5,000.00 grant which would have been more than enough to pay for books and tuition.
Will learn a lot No I won't because their processing of students takes two years! Just to get all their financial aid situated is delaying me this long! I'm going to Valencia instead!
