Most places you'll need/want to go to around campus are within walking distance, so get ready for A LOT of walking. Get some good, comfortable walking shoes! Also try to familiarize yourself with Trimet's different forms of public transit (bus, Max, streetcar). Those will certainly be useful whether you intend on living on or off campus.

If you have any questions about ANYTHING, find someone to get directly in touch with to get answers. You will almost NEVER get what you need by searching their website or asking other students. Seriously, just send emails to department heads or administrators whenever you have questions. Don't skip the advising meetings! The only way to really understand what you need to register for, especially if you're a transfer student, is to meet one-on-one with an adviser. Don't leave the meeting until you feel crystal clear about your plan of action. Because it's right in the center of downtown Portland, you should avoid having a car if you possibly can. Parking is a total nightmare, as is navigating the city until you get used to it.
