    Bang for the buck

I am saving so much money starting at a community college.

    What to do for fun

The Riverside Plaza is a less than 5 minute drive from the campus and there are a lot of different places to eat and shop.

    Food and Dining

The food at RCC is pretty good but a little over priced. There is a lot of variety both on and off campus.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others. There are a lot of professors that are passionate about what they teach.

    Tips for prospective students

Getting involved in sports or clubs will make your time there much more memorable and fun.

    In three sentences

I love this school. The campus is almost always safe, the staff is friendly and helpful, and they offer a lot of extra programs to help you with classes. Probably one of the best community colleges around.

    Campus Safety

The schools top priority is to ensure student safety. All around the school there are various emergency red buttons that students can press. Campus PD also patrol regularly even on the weekends and vacation students are away. The steps Riverside City College takes to ensure the safety of its students demonstrates the professionalism every institution should have.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs exist on campus and whatever your interests may be, there is a club for you. I was apart of the Video Game Club and I have met various unique people who I have had the chance to become friends with. There is also a club where you can take care of a garden and learn about cultivation and growing organic crops! How cool is that?

Great for these types of students

If you like to breathe fresh air, then this is the type of school for you. It gives a sense of existing along side nature while studying to be what you want. It is relaxing and peaceful. It is also clean and respective toward nature.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus of Riverside City College gives a sense of life to the students. It is surrounded by nature. Literally set among trees streaming with wildlife, the school is sort of like national park where visitors can go to get a glimpse of a squirrel or skunk. Birds, lizards, racoons, squirrels, skunks exist in and around the campus separately and never disturb campus life. A natural and preservative feel is definitely a hallmark for this city college.

    Bang for the buck

The life that surrounds Riverside City College is unforgettable. It leaves a feeling of pride to be apart of a community that supports the success of its alumni. Pictures throughout the hall embrace the graduates who transferred pr graduated from this college. It is certainly a place to hold high as an institution.

    What to do for fun

The Riverside City College has activities going on just about every day of the week. You can see various vendors out on the quad selling their merchandise or booths providing services or club advertising. During the holidays students get together to bring the experience to the campus. They have had Halloween mazes, Christmas themed celebrations, talent shows and even a circus!

    Food and Dining

The food here at RCC is relatively pleasing. The pizza is what I prefer to order when I am on the go. They have many choices of restaurant quality pizzas and submarine sandwiches that are suitable for just about any type of palette. Much more exists at the RCC cafeteria and it takes hunger to discover what they have to offer!

    Dorm Life

I have not had the chance to immerse myself within the dorm life here at RCC, but knowing the students who attend, it must be a positive, fun, and unforgettable experience.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of this college solely depends on the student themselves. Seek help when needed because the responsibility lies within the individual taking those classes. Nothing is difficult, it is only when a person believes it is.

    Tips for prospective students

Be positive! There is nothing more hurtful to a students college career than a negative attitude. Ask questions, be polite, and listen to what each instructor has to offer in order to better yourself for the future.

    In three sentences

Riverside City College is an excellent place to study! The campus is not only a beautiful place just minutes away from downtown, it is representative of a environment comprised of ambitious people. The staff and faculty are supportive and seek to help every student as much as possible!

    Bang for the buck

You'll probably get an A in your classes cause the teachers don't care about their classes at all

    What to do for fun

Go down the street to Lift Coffee Roasters. Such a cool vibe and nice baristas.

    Food and Dining

Only ate on campus once and it wasn't good.

    Dorm Life

    I lived at home

    Academic Rigor

Most of my teachers didn't really care about me with the exception of Star Romero. She was one of the best teachers I have ever had and I loved her class. She was an amazing person and an amazing professor. You're luck if you get her class

    Tips for prospective students

It is a good place to get motivation for a four year college. You'll want to transfer out as soon as possible as soon as you start attending here.

    In three sentences

It is hard to get classes here so don't slack when applying. Apply for ANY potential classes you might want/need. You'll definitely want to transfer to a 4 year from here.

    Campus Safety

During the time spent in Riverside City College, not once have I seen a fight or anything dangerous occur. It is in a nice area and streets are clean and no loitering around campus. Safety shouldn't be a concern because it is such a nice environment!

    Greek Life

I am not exactly sure what this is, but there are a lot of plays and performances by students.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities. Think of a club and it is here. During club rush i met with many of the clubs presidents, all were friendly and inviting. There is not a week where there isn't something exciting happening on Campus. If you like being social and getting to know people, join a club, this school has plenty of them!

Great for these types of students

It is great for students in low income families who can't afford spending a ridiculous amount of money for general education. So its cheaper to take their 2 years of general education here than at a 4 year college. It is also great for students who still haven't decided on their career goals.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Like I mentioned before, Art Walk is held every first thursday of the month and many college students go and hang out with there friends.

    Bang for the buck

Riverside City College is just an affordable community college that new students should take advantage of. Who can say no to a nice campus, student life, great classes and teachers all while saving thousands of dollars.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun on and off campus. The school features many clubs and activities for students to engage in. The student body helps host many on campus events and there is always something going on from dog adoptions, club rush, performing bands/students, plays by acting students, school elections, Chalk Walk, banquets to even drag shows, the list goes on! Outside of campus there are also fun things to do. There are quite a few art exhibits int he area and Riverside hosts a monthly Art Walk; every first Thursday of the month. At art walk students and other people can enjoy a taste of the artistic life from paintings to sculptures, photography, hand made items (tails, beanies, backpacks etc) and art walk usually has a live band sing in the main gallery upper terrace. Another cool thing about Art Walk is that it is held where all the dining and bar areas are at so they are always in reach if you get hungry. If art isn't your thing, there are always the bars located in the same area.

    Food and Dining

The campus food isn't the greatest and it isn't the worst, but luckily for the college a food and dining area is just around the corner. Market Street features a good amount of restaurants, a small plaza, bars, coffee shops and other recreational areas for students to enjoy. A popular spot for college students in Riverside is called Back To The Grind, a very nice coffee shop that screams college life. It is rather hipster in a sense, decorations are fun and has bookshelves for people to read, board games and other fun decorations. Two other attractions come to mind, back to the grind features a small terrace and outdoor area and well as a basement. The basement looks like many poetry slams are staged there, having a small stage and seats around it. There is also a pool table for people to use. All in all the food and dining areas around the school are great and easy to reach. Tyler Mall is also really close by and a great place to hang with friends and eat!

    Dorm Life

There actually aren't any dorms because it is a community college. Sleeping under a nice tree is always nice in between classes!

    Academic Rigor

I have to give this school 5 stars in academic rigor. It is a challenging school with great academics and teachers push their students and don't let anyone breeze on through without any effort. It is just as any other top notch college, the curriculum isn't watered down nor should it be. It is a stepping stone for when students transfer, the school does an excellent job for preparation. Classes should be taken seriously and studying 1 hr for every class unit will ensure a passing grade. It may not be Harvard, but the professors are very skilled and experts in their field.

    Tips for prospective students

New college students should take advantage of community colleges in general. Fresh out of High School students may not always know what careers they want to pursue so community colleges are perfect for finding their paths. With Financial Aid and Bog Waivers it is virtually free tuition for those who qualify. Many financial aid options are available such as BOG, FAFSA, Dream Act and Cal grants. RCC or any of its sister schools would be a great place to start. Not only for tuition costs, but it will generally save students a lot of money when they decide to transfer. The best tip I can give is speak to a counselor asap and begin a study program, take general education classes and find out what career is best for you while having a great experience, just don't blow all of your financial aid at a community college. Important thing to remember is that Financial is limited to about 6 school years, so although it is a great place to find your path, prospective students should not linger more than they have to.

    In three sentences

Riverside Community College may just be one of the greatest community colleges; it excels in diversity, campus life, plethora of events and clubs, help is always available, nice campus with beautiful library window views, and friendly students!

Campus security drive around continually. They ride on scooters and bicycles as well.

    Bang for the buck

RCC offers lower tuition fees than 4 year colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to learn. Prioritize your schedule. Strive for A's. Take your education seriously.

Riverside City College provides its students the best college education possible. The rigorous workload is challenging and beneficial. Students graduate from Riverside City College with a strong and proficient academic foundation.

the campus safety is great! there is always someone driving around at all hours around the campus making sure everything is okay. There are always students around, the campus is always full and the parking lot is nearby with lights also.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs, from art galleries, to gaming design, and acting. etc.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    none

    Bang for the buck

Its not too expensive here, as for community colleges its easier to get classes and much cheaper.

    What to do for fun

You can join clubs. theirs acting, dancing, or any sports. Help out the community.

    Food and Dining

they do have a cafeteria that cooks and serves food daily. The food is fresh and they have different options of drinks and chips, candy and etc.

    Dorm Life

    there are no dorms here

    Academic Rigor

Academics are good, but the problems seems to be that young students tend to mess up and so it takes them longer to transfer out. But they do give second chances and so your placed on probation and your given a second chance to your education which is great!

    Tips for prospective students

Always do your best in all classes. Even though school may seem long, it will pay off more then enough in your future. Getting an education is very important. Going to a community and transferring to a University is one easy way financially to go. I'm doing it, and so can you. If you struggle with any classes, there are tutors in your college that can always help.

    In three sentences

Riverside is a good non expensive community college where you are able to get your general credits done and be able to transfer with those credits. Its easy to me, and teachers are good, they love working with you.

    Greek Life

This was the life at RCC, Greek Life. Sadly in the early 70's it died. If you read about that time in the schools history, it died off like many things that made student life at RCC fun! One of you said that you'd have to wait to get to a university to get involved in Greek Life, sorry in the hey days of the mid-60's it was the life. the Greeks supported more activities than any other organization on campus. We ran fund raisers for The Heart Fund, Cancer Society, March of Dimes and many more. No other group did that. In the 60's and early 70's they wanted to deface the campus and demand that they get funding from the college rather than earn it. Sadly they got their way, and the Music died! Sadly you all missed a really great time. College was fun to go to, and you still had to keep up your grades to be involved. I was a Past President of my fraternity, Lambda Epsilon Beta, Past President of the old AMS and past Man of the Year 1970 and Sophomore of the Year 1970. Things change and sadly and many times when they do, you lose more than what you gain!

    Dorm Life

    There is none!

    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved!

    In three sentences

You should look back to the 60's & 70's to see how much fun and what we really learned going to RCC. Get involved and enjoy yourself while there!

    Campus Safety

There are several phones around the parking lots to call for emergencies and there is always campus security.

    Greek Life

    None

    Clubs and Activities

They only have a few clubs or activities. Plays, band concerts, and basketball games.

    Bang for the buck

Even thought the price did rise, it is still an affordable college.

    What to do for fun

They have basketball games which are entertaining and plays. That is about it. Since this is a community college there aren't many activities that I was involved in.

    Food and Dining

There is one place to grab some food and it isn't that great, but there are plenty of restaurants close.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms

    Academic Rigor

This all depends on the teacher. There are some teachers that make the class a little easier and some teachers that make you work for your grade.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay persistent no matter how hard it is to get classes. Even if you have to take classes you don't need to have a good registration date, keep going!

    In three sentences

Although it is difficult to get classes, I really do love this college. Registering is easy, and the most important is finding classes to fit your schedule. This school has classes that are one day a week so it is easy to fit your schedule.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely less expensive than the Cal State's or UC's. Best as an opportunity to save for a bigger college without having to sacrifice a college education.

    Food and Dining

The pre-made, cold-cut sandwiches in the cafeteria are the best options; the hotter meals that are prepared there are less than stellar. Most prefer to drive downtown or to the plaza between Riverside and Magnolia Ave. for lunch rather than eat on campus.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms

    Academic Rigor

Pretty typical community college. More difficult than high school, but not as intimidating as bigger universities.

    Tips for prospective students

It might be intimidating because it's a college, but class sizes aren't ridiculously huge like at universities. You can get to know your professors and actually learn from them. Go to office hours if you struggle. There are labs and tutoring centers for students who can't utilize office hours.

    In three sentences

RCC is a decent stepping stone for high school students who may feel unready for a much bigger school. Most professors keep on a healthy level with students and are more accessible. The facilities may not be top notch, but everything a student needs is there or within range.

There is an old historical building in which clubs may use to hold events. It's worth checking out while at RCC. I believe there is a kitchen you may use, a backyard with a grill, and a projector room. :) It's really nice and cozy. Keep in mind there are offices on the second floor.

    What to do for fun

RCC is pretty big and there are few locations in the campus to go for a jog . There is downtown to visit in your spare time; which is not too far away. Join student clubs and attend sport games. If RCC is not enough for you, check out what UCR has to offer. Or organize something of your own. Carpe Diem :)

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is called The City Grill. Food is good, not too much of a selection. Some items can be pricey. Overall tasty :) It's open until 8:00PM I think. It's convenient it stays open late, especially in those cold nights at Riverside. You can also work there part-time.

    Dorm Life

No dorms, but there are UCR dorms you may possibly rent.

    Academic Rigor

Depends all on your teachers and what you take away from your classes. Keep in mind there are set lesson plans for teachers depending on the subject. If you feel you're learning something you are not, check the school's site and the lesson plans to see if you're learning what you need. :)

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your game ! Outline your calendars, manage your time, and hit the books hard. Key is BALANCE Try to enroll in priority registration by joining honors, joining a sport, or enlist in their two year transfer program. Make sure you have your calendars highlighted for dropping classes and/or registration dates. If you don't have the funds or do not have your books for any reason there a some books you can borrow at the library. (only for inside use) Get your I.D. ASAP! If you lose it, you may have to pay. If you paid your student fees you have a bus pass on your I.D. bar code. Also you may see some students using their I.D. cards to pay for things; most likely they have Wellsfargo linked to their school I.D. Keep in mind of Financial Aide dates and your salliemae account. Highly suggest you open a bank account.

    In three sentences

It's pretty big for a community college. Teachers seem friendly. Website and services could do more work.

The campus is pretty safe, there are emergency stations all over to make a call to get help or what not and there is usually police presence on campus near the parking lots. There is also an app you can download to receive alerts about anything emergency related on campus.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about Greek life on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

If you have the time, there are ton of clubs and activities you can get involved. Clubs are a great way to meet new people that are into the same interests you are.

Great for these types of students

RCC is great for sports minded students, great for students that want to enter the medical field and RCC also has one of the best music programs in Southern California. A great school for many different types of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

When I have to time and I am done studying I like to attend football games in the fall and baseball games in the spring. I like the older parts of campus where there is a lot of trees and shade and not a lot of students walking around, makes it a nice outdoor place to get some reading and studying done.

    Bang for the buck

Great price for education. Most of the professors at RCC have their PHD's and you receive the same level of education you probably would in the first two years of most four year colleges.

    What to do for fun

You can join a club and meet new people, or join in one of the many on campus activities that take place all the time. There is also free concerts for students to attend, the on campus concert series. There is even a community garden now!

    Food and Dining

There is food you can buy on campus or a ton of eating options just off campus, downtown.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Riverside Community College.

    Academic Rigor

Very good academic programs that offer a lot of challenges. If you got through the class sequences you will be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead, pay attention, take good notes and don't forget to study. Your hard work will pay off, just keep it up and do not give up.

    In three sentences

    Bang for the buck

Overall, if you need to save money RCC is a credible, inexpensive college that gives you the education you need to transfer or get an associates. However, unless you get priority registration, it can be difficult to get a class.

    What to do for fun

If you have time to spend between classes, see if your friends are available. Other than that, just sit in the library playing cell phone games or listening to music on headphones.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is fairly average. The environment is kept clean and there are multiple items on the menu, but nothing ever changes.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It's college. The professors aren't going to walk you through every step. You need to have the discipline to sit down and study because the courses can be challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have a friend that already goes to RCC, ask them for assistance. Enrolling for classes can be really confusing the first time. Make sure you find where your classes are before the semester starts.

    In three sentences

Riverside community college is a comfortable, tiny college compared to other university's in the area. It's cheap and affordable and has enough resources to aid you in your college career. Most teachers are excellent and care about their students.

    Campus Safety

I'd say the campus is safe, I haven't seen anything too out of the ordinary.

    Greek Life

Not aware if we have any Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs that they have are alright, they're lacking in variety in my eyes though.

Great for these types of students

If you're a serious student, who has a plan on what they want to do educationally, this is a great school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual location on campus is that there's a huge tunnel near the parking structure down below that leads you to a park I believe.

    Bang for the buck

You're definitely getting your money's worth if you are able to choose the right professors, and if you're a serious student.

    What to do for fun

Simply talking to other students on campus is fun in itself.

    Food and Dining

They have a nice selection of food and drinks to choose from in the cafeteria, the only drawback is that it can be a bit costly. Sometimes cheaper to just buy things at the student store, and use your student ID for a small discount.

    Dorm Life

There aren't any dorms at RCC, it is a community college after all.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are adequately filled with their homework, and depending on your professor, you may come to learn and or even enjoy the subjects that they have to offer. Be prepared to work though, manage your time wisely.

    Tips for prospective students

Registering for classes may be harder to obtain now with all the cut backs and number of students on the campus. If you're in student government or play a sport, you'll receive registration priority which enables you to register on a much earlier date than your scheduled one.

    In three sentences

Riverside City College is a decent sized school for the person who wants to continue their education. Supplying the student with some great professors, and up to date software and equipment, one should do well at the school if they're there to learn. The atmosphere has a casual vibe to it, pretty diverse as well.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. Alarms have been set up intermittently throughout the campus and cameras and security guards police the area 24/7. There is even a email sent out every year that give students in depth info about the crime statistics on the campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a plethora of clubs on campus. There are clubs for certain ethnicity's, certain GPA'S and certain majors. However just because they were created to attract these individuals does not at all mean a person cannot apply for membership. They also are involved in a lot of community service and they really help children and families in need.

Great for these types of students

If you are a film or band major this is trully the school for you. A lot of the schools resources go towards these programs. However Riverside Community College is well rounded, our math and science departments are one of a kind as well. Finally our football team has been compared to schools like USC and UCLA our players make it to division one colleges and some have gone professional.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It was established in 1916 and is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in southern California. Every semester our high class film department throws a film festival where the film students are able to show their films and even win scholarships. The RCC Marching Tigers is the best marching band on the west coast. They have appeared in all the Austin powers movies and they are world champions.

    Bang for the buck

The price of tuition is extremely low compared to many other Community Colleges. This is common since but, it is 70 to 80 percent cheaper than a normal university, and you will receive a better quality of education due to small class sizes.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of eateries and cool places to hangout on and off campus. The school is located near downtown so there is already buss service. Going to see a movie or dropping by the art museum is very fun.

The food at the grill is great! But dine at the cafeteria at your own risk.

    Dorm Life

No dorms at this Community College.

    Academic Rigor

Courses are extremely challenging at this college. In order to succeed one must have a lot of free tine to study.

    Tips for prospective students

As soon as you apply for admission give them a course of study this will help you to get courses faster. When you find the school you want to transfer to talk to their counselors before seeing the ones at the college. This will allow you to have good questions to ask them. Once you have all your question sign up to talk to MR. Barns he is the best.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. It is your responsibility to properly withdraw/drop from a class, not the instructor (very important, my GPA dropped because of this). 2. Campus Safety

This campus is patrolled daily, has several flashing emergency polls in the event of an emergency, so that you always feel safe among your fellow students.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs with their own events, all of which ask for you to express your self and your ideas in ongoing discussions with fellow classmates, teachers, and visiting speakers.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for studious students who do not need extra assistance in guidance, but know who they are, what they want, and how to get it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Most unusual traditions are best when found for yourself and not told. One tip is to explore all of campus. You might be surprised at what you find.

    Bang for the buck

This community college can be rather challenging (in a good way!) and has truly allowed me to express myself creatively and intellectually. There are a lot of communities, clubs, and organizations here which accept you, openly, for who you are.

    What to do for fun

The Riverside City College campus which I attend is located in Downtown Riverside, in the heart of the city and near a vast culturally aware and artistically engaging community. There are also two other campuses. One in Norco, which is close to shopping communities, and one in Moreno Valley, which is among the hills.

    Food and Dining

The on campus cafeteria is really convenient, and there are always ways to get free snacks. The farmers markets downtown are also close and rather tasty - you just have to find them.

    Dorm Life

I live at home and not in a dorm, so I cannot be of much help here. I do not believe RCC has dorms, though there are low rent apartments located all about the city, and many students searching for roommates.

    Academic Rigor

If you take the right classes, you get the right challenges.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Get involved. Join clubs, go to meetings, find things that interest you and pursue them. There are a lot of friendly people here. 2. Know your own plan. There are a lot of things you can accomplish at this school, and sometimes it is easy to get lost. Know your goals, and set your schedules, and always have a back up plan! 3. Always look for reviews first. Not all people learn the same, and teachers teach in different ways. Be sure to look up your teachers before you take them to see if they teach in a style that is best for you.

    In three sentences

Riverside City College is a school which works hard to fight against budget cuts the best it can because it knows education is important to developing minds. There are a lot of opportunities which can be found here, really engaging and interesting teachers, and classes which allow students to expand their minds and explore their creativity. This school is constantly changing and adapting to the active minds of its student population in an attempt to truly become a school run by the wants of its students.

The campus is fairly safe, however I never see security walking around or police near the campus. I guess this is due to the fact that nothing dangerous ever happens, which is a positive aspect of RCC.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is nonexistent at RCC as far as I know, which could be due to the fact that administration wants students to focus on their studies to be able to transfer.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several sports activities and clubs people can enroll in and become more involved at RCC. This makes it a more dynamic experience for the student to enjoy.

Great for these types of students

    What to do for fun

Around RCC there are malls to shop at, there are several clubs to become involved in that allow you to meet new friends and get to know RCC better.

    Food and Dining

The food on the campus is mediocre, and is typical for school cafeterias. However, the service is great and the employees are always kind.

    Dorm Life

I have never heard of dorm life on the campus, however I know there is off-campus living available close to the campus.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough, but are preparing students to reach further and set up their goals for life.

    Tips for prospective students

Great for these types of students

RCC is great for students that are fresh out of high school and want to continue their education, but they don't want the shock of a large university, or students looking to transfer to a four year University due to tuition costs or unfavorable GPAs.

    Bang for the buck

Though the school is very cost-efficient and the teachers do their jobs well, some credits are non-transferable. However, for such a low price-per-unit, I wouldn't complain.

RCC holds many community-wide events, such as student concerts, art exhibits, and sports games.

The club also gives out scholarships every semester and has a 5k run/walk/roll every Memorial Day weekend.

The government will pay for your classes and more if you qualify, and there are plenty of scholarships whether you are hurting financially or not! The professors are very helpful, and there are tutoring programs to help you as well! When I started at RCC, I was a Marine Corps veteran. I didn't know what I wanted to major in, but I found my passion at RCC. I became a tutor at the college and at local high schools in order to share that passion, and I even won an internship and several big scholarships while attending RCC! I am also transferring to a university which guaranteed my admission, partially because I am transferring from RCC! If you are considering college, do not let ANYTHING stand in your way! If you know an RCC student (and chances are, you do) ask him or her for help. Knowing RCC students, he or she will be more than happy to. And if you don't know anyone from RCC, contact the school for an appointment with a counselor! Most importantly, never give up and believe in yourself!

    In three sentences

Riverside City College (RCC) is an amazing college! It has one of the best Study Abroad programs in California; I spent my second semester at RCC in Oxford, England! The faculty, staff, and atmosphere are wonderful, as well!

    Campus Safety

During the year I've spent here, there has never been a time when I didn't feel safe. Security guards patrol unobtrusively, and even though most of the students come from the harder side of life, they are friendly and avoid trouble while on campus.

    Greek Life

This college encourages many men and women to get together and become leaders and to make a difference in their community, but I didn't notice much of this going on. I believe this was because most of these students have children and families to go home to and to provide for, so they didn't have much time for anything else.

    Clubs and Activities

They have dozens of clubs, including Gospel Singers, Reading, Students for Christ, Chess, Anthropology (which I highly recommend for its fascinating and eye-opening topics), sports, and the list goes on and on.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for any first-time college students, because it has a very relaxing, casual atmosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't noticed any traditions yet, but I've only been there a year, so maybe I haven't seen any yet. It's a very small campus and they have a tight budget, so there is not much room for unusual locations!

    Bang for the buck

I thought I could never go to college because I couldn't afford it. Then a friend told me about financial aid like FAFSA, and my whole life changed for better. I jumped into the crazy yet fun student life, and after two semesters I have 29 units. It's all thanks to the financial aid this college provides for its students.

    What to do for fun

They have many clubs and events going on all the time, so just be aware of what's going on and you'll never have a boring week!

    Food and Dining

Being a small community college, they can't offer much in terms of healthy meals. Most of their food is over-priced, deep-fried products. But their fries are delicious!

    Dorm Life

All students live off-campus, but the college is right next or not far from neighborhoods, so some students live just down the street.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the teachers expect a lot of studying from their students, but they give you the help necessary for success.

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely recommend this college for any new student. The teachers love the subjects they teach and are zealous for the students' academic success. This is a great place to start your college life.

    In three sentences

To be honest, when I first enrolled I had very low expectations due to the fact that it is a community college. But after two semesters there as a full time student, I've been very impressed with the quality of the teachings and the awesome, intelligent, passionate professors. I have greatly enjoyed all the fun times here and will always remember all the fabulous people I met.

Here you will find that the professor can be both helpful and some not so helpful but this can be expected.

    Clubs and Activities

Relay For Life is a huge presence on campus. Many of my friends are involved, and almost daily I see some kind of advertisement posted about their next event. They definitely do not go unnoticed.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who want to gain their footing in the college community. It can help prepare you for transferring to a larger college, which is what most students go to RCC for nowadays.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At least once a week, a funnel cake truck visits the campus. Everyone goes ga-ga for some of the handmade treats, fresh at that! The smell alone is enough to make your mouth water.

    What to do for fun

With RCC located so close to the Downtown Riverside area, there are many events and places to visit. White Park is a lovely little park that is picture perfect and the best place to sit under a tree and enjoy a good book. A few blocks away from White Park, there is a auditorium of sorts that plays host to many acts, whether they be music, plays, or even comedians. One main attraction is the Art Walk of Downtown Riverside. This is where artists from all over the Riverside area come to display their art, and right on the sidewalk too! And of course, you can't miss the historic Mission Inn Hotel, which has been rumored to be haunted. There's so many things to do in and around RCC, it's hard not to like.

    Food and Dining

RCC has great food, albeit a little overpriced, but nonetheless, it's wonderful. Especially the veggie burger with cheese! Yum! And a ten minute walk leads you to Downtown Riverside where a vast selection of food and dining can be found, including a Subway and even a cupcake bakery. Can you say, delicious!? Doesn't get much better than that.

    Dorm Life

RCC doesn't have much of a dorm life. Considering that it is a community college, the majority of students live off-campus, in an apartment, with friends, or even at home.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on the teacher/subject. Some classes are quite mediocre in work while others have you delve deep into papers on the very first day. Just be sure to have your thinking caps on!

    Tips for prospective students

Register as early as possible. Buy your textbooks AT LEAST a week in advance, buying online is a great option too, it helps beat the lines. Don't be afraid of the wait list, persistence pays off. Stay on top of the work and you can prove your worth.

    In three sentences

RCC is a little piece of the starting line for a better future. With many classes offered, a wide array of choices are available to those who have the desire to succeed. Simple navigation, easy to use website, and a wonderful staff to help with transfer students, RCC is great to help you advance in your desired path.

Work is still work and if you are lazy, school will still be the boring thing it has always been. I used to be so lazy, but I turned myself around. If you don't keep up, school will become a fear for you and you will probably drop out. It is not easy here, but this opportunity can change your life. But if you are seeking a very nice chance to catch up on classes, save money or meet friends in your field of study, this place is for you. AND if you're just a person at all, this place is also for you too.

    Tips for prospective students

GETTING CLASSES IS FREAKING CRAZY. Do not be mad if you do not get what you want right away, but do not give up. The more units that you have taken, the sooner you can pick classes, pretty soon you will be able to pick classes for the next semester before the current one is over. FIND a blue sheet called IGETC in the admissions office, it tells you what classes to take to clear your general education. ALSO find an experienced student who can talk you through the times ahead. DO not always rely on a counselor when you can learn the materials yourself as they are only available from 8am-6pm. ONLY take online classes if you are extremely self sufficient, you may think you can handle it but most student fail them because of enhanced procrastination thinking that it will be so easy. THE library computers are free and super fast, printing is 10 cents a page.

    Bang for the buck

The cost per unit is very awesome. Though I believe it is being changed to $36 a unit, that is a great savings when compared to universities down the way. An average class will cost you 108 with this new change in mind. Student fees are $36 a semester, but this includes free health services, snacks on Tuesday and being able to use your id card as a bus pass. The food is alright in prices, more than in the stores but kind of reasonable if you need something now. Textbooks get up there, I had a math book that was around $194.50. But look on Craigslist or order them early from Amazon.com as you can find them much cheaper. You can also rent them for half price. When it comes time to sell them, sell them to student for around 75% of what you paid. There are areas to post flyers and don't sell to the bookstore, they will by them for less than 40% of what you paid originally.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here, I am currently taking 15 units and it is not bad. Campus is awesome, many variety of people to talk to. I have made my experience awesome because I have to spend a lot of time here. I did not know what to think of college when I first got here. The only images I knew where the ones on tv and those were not always the case. However it is what you make it. I really love it, the campus is awesome and is always expanding to meet more student needs. There are some people who walk around hating the campus and what not, but we see the same things and I like it. Obviously you should walk in with a positive attitude and a goal in mind if you really want to make this experience memorable. I am not saying it won't be hard, it will. Some of the hardest and trying moments of my life have happened on campus but I have learned from them and applied my new knowledge to challenges I face today. I once met a guy on the first week of this new semester and he was totally scared of it. he did not know what to do with his life, college was so complicated and he probably felt like giving up. There will be giants but if you look at it all at once, you might faint. There are things that need to be learned but the process can take up to two years. So don't freak out if everything is not clear right away, calm down and take it day by day, a little at a time, really.

    Academic Rigor

I have learned a WHOLE LOT!! I started right out of high school and it has been a whole new world for me. Of course I have learned many quantitative things like math, physics and chemistry, but I have also learned so many life lessons here in the 2.5 years Ive been attending. You never know what you will learn, but I guarantee you anything in the world that you will learn something.

RCC is great for any student. Whether you are a high school grad, dropout, single parent, or you are needing a new career, this school is made for anyone. Like I said before, there are so many different people on campus, so even if you are 40 years old, you will not feel weird, cause there was at least 3 people who were 35 or older in the most recent course I took. There are even courses for senior citizens. Bottom line, this school is for anyone wanting to further their education. :)

    Tips for prospective students

Put yourselves in a TON of waitlists and show up on the first day of class. There is a pretty good chance that you will end up getting in. Don't attempt to take basic freshman English. It is nearly impossible to get into. When you get more units, you get a better registration date, and then you can try to get in. Online classes (if you feel comfortable taking them) are a great way to get credits. There are quite a few teachers who let more students then they should into their online classes, and that really helps when you are trying to get units. Not only do you not have to use gas to get to school, but they are (in my opinion) one of the easiest classes to get into at RCC. Most classes at RCC are now available online (but this does not mean all). Some courses are required to be taken on campus.

    Bang for the buck

You definately get your moneys worth, if you can get into classes. Every semester there is a student fee, and if you can only get into one class, then you are essentially paying for an extra unit. Because of budget cuts, less students are being accepted to universities and are therefore going to community colleges. I would say the only downfall to RCC is the cost. Although it costs no more then going to another community college, getting units takes a lot of time and effort. Thankfully RCC hasn't been hit as hard as some of the other colleges, so we are still afloat. I couldn't get any classes in FALL 2010, but in WINTER 2011, I got into one online class, and in SPRING 2011, I managed to get into another class, and now for SUMMER 2011, I am currently enrolled in 11 units. So needless to say it gets better as time goes on. So yes, you do get your bang for the buck. :) (Beats paying 10,000 a semester, that's for sure)

    Am enjoying being here

The students at Riverside Community College come from all sorts of different backgrounds. In a 30 student class, there are 30 different backgrounds, and I personally find that fascinating. You get to hear about students who traveled to various countries, different religious practices, and about everyone's take on everything from how we should manage our food to whether aliens exist. You get so much more out of this school then just an education, and that is the reason I enjoy going to this school so much.

    Am learning a lot

Riverside Community College is an amazing school. I have only taken two classes there, but I have gained more knowledge in those two classes then in most of my time in High School. The professors are so helpful, even on the online classes. If I needed help, there has never been any hesitation. They would help me no questions asked.

Great for these types of students

All types of student, it's a starting point to move onto most bigger colleges from.

    Tips for prospective students

Get all the paper work in early, take a course over summer if you plan on going during the fall. The summer course doesn't matter as much just so long as you have a class so your registration date gets bumped up. Get parking early as possible and don't rule out online courses, they can be harder but they are very useful.

    Bang for the buck

Classes here are definitely on the lower-side of the pricing scale, and in such a hard-pressed time, when everyone is skimping trying to afford classes this is just a small miracle. The classes they provide are all diverse and they even offer a very good online course program.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is a wonderful combination of open, and yet not too spaced out where walking from classes is a huge workout. Parking is difficult at times, but getting to campus always helps with parking. There are a few places across the street to park where you pay hourly and can stay if it comes to it. The general staff is always nice, the librarians are eager to help, and are fantastic at finding books that you want despite how little knowledge you might have on what you're looking for.

    Am learning a lot

The classes here are very diverse. My teacher would stay after school to help those that encountered some difficulties with the learning. If that didn't work the library here is just fantastic and has a huge collection of books to choose from. While classes are difficult to get into, just like they are anywhere, they have an excellent waitlisting program which helps put you next in line, I know some other colleges have eliminated this process, and it's really a shame because with how quickly classes fill up there is an increasing need for an order for the students who haven't been able to get the courses they want.

    - Independent - Financially hindered - With forms of transportation

    Tips for prospective students

My main tips for the prospective student are these - Try to detach yourself from depending on others and make decisions for yourself. - Don't expect that the information will just come to you at RCC. 4-year universities tend to be a lot more direct about information, but at RCC one must research on one's own. - Try to take as many classes as you can during a term so as to finish your goals quicker.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure if the cost per unit has changed from $26, but if the price has not changed then a loaded 18 units comes out to only $468 a semester. I'm about to transfer to a 4-year university where the semester costs about 4 times that. So the price for RCC is definitely not ridiculous when looked at in context. You can also apply for the Board of Governors Enrollment Fee Waiver (BOGW) which actually waives the cost of units every semester (something that I used and saved tons of money with).

    Am enjoying being here

Though you can't really gain the college experience that you normally would if you were at a 4-year university, there is a lot RCC still has to offer that has a strong, college ambiance to it. Something that RCC does for you is that it really develops your independence as a student; you quickly learn that you are responsible for your academic career and that sometimes you have to learn to take action for yourself.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot at Riverside Community College (now called Riverside City College). The education you get obviously various among the different professors, but overall it is of good quality. I have a couple friends who attend different 4-year universities and from what I hear the caliber of teaching quality is of the same level.

It's great if you need to save money on your 4-year degree or if you want an AA/AS.

    Tips for prospective students

For the first couple months of every semester, arrive an hour early - parking is a nightmare. If you can, eat off-campus, because it is much cheaper.

    Bang for the buck

It's community college - what do you except? Even if tuition rises, it will still be a small fraction of the per-unit-cost of 4-year colleges.

    Am enjoying being here

It's an alright campus, besides the inconvenient student services hours, poor service, poor upkeep of bathrooms, and people smoking all over our non-smoking campus.

    Am learning a lot

RCC is essentially the 13th and 14th grade. You'll add a few more facts to your knowledge base, but unless it's relevant to your major it's not going to stick. A lot of what I learned I had seen before.

The professors are easy to approach, with any question you might have. They guide you in the right direction.

Great for these types of students

Persevering Students. The hard part is not getting in, its getting out as a graduate.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are only $26 a unit, Parking Permit is $20 if you receive financial aid, and Student Services fee is $16 for Summer and Winter and $32 for Spring and Fall. The good news is that MVC gives you your money back through FREE BBQ's on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

MVC is a very calm environment suitable for those who like to socialize and those who are introverts. If you like quiet areas there is always the second floor of the library, but if you enjoy socializing you might want to go to the Student Activities Center.

    Am learning a lot

At Riverside Community College, Moreno Valley Campus, now Moreno Valley College I have learned and succeeded a lot. I have attended MVC since 2009 and experienced things I have never imagined. At MVC they offer more than just tuition, they offer you the opportunity to receive scholarships, become an employee, receive tutorial services or become a tutor yourself, and the opportunity to join different affiliations. One thing you must know though is that if you want to get your education done fast you must find priority registration through a program or Student Government. Registering is easy but finding open classes is extremely difficult to new alumni. I suggest getting into EOPS, Student Government, or a program like Puente.

Any student who plans on transferring, students who don't have enough money, and any major that they offer is the type of students that usually go here.

    Tips for prospective students

I love RCC because of the way it is set up. First the counselors offer a load of advice.I advise you to go set up a time at counselor for you will receive a student goal list as well as a student class planner. They schedule you to be on track with your classes. Second try to chose your classes around any times you know will be a distraction. Third studying in the library or anywhere on campus can keep you focus. Finally the last tip is to stay motivated with a positive attitude. Professors and other students can only motivate you so much, the rest is up to you. This motivation will increase your chances of staying on track.

    Bang for the buck

As a college student you will spend a lot of money on books, school supplies, and of course classes. At RCC they make it really easy to apply for scholarships and financial aid if you need to. They have a low cost to books and class credits.

    Am enjoying being here

Being able to chose your major and classes is way different from high school. It gives you more flexablity to work and study. I love the environment of the Norco campus compared the other two. You are able to find a place outside to read or work on homework. They do a great job creating it to be more student involved. They have clubs that are very flexible with your schedule.

    Am learning a lot

When I first went to RCC I did not know what to expect. I love learning. They have great campus with tons of resources. Also the professors here are very helping. I have learned so much in the last year.

Great for these types of students

This is great for students coming right out of high school. The work is harder than high school, but that's what college is, the next level up. Online classes are good if you are self-motivated. Usually most classes have study groups, for those who work best with others. Other than that, anyone can make it through this community college with hard work and determination.

    Tips for prospective students

Admissions is a big headache. Definitely enroll on time, be there on the first day of class, and if the teacher doesn't add you the first day continue to go. He or she will see you are serious about the class and add you in when others have dropped.

    Bang for the buck

For a community college it had the traditional low prices, although they have raised them in the past years because of budget cuts the prices are still significantly lower than your traditional university.

    Am enjoying being here

Overall I've enjoyed attending RCC because of the cheaper prices and quality teachers and professors. My fellow students on the other hand are not always so motivated and sometimes are a hindrance to the class, yet that is not all the time. The information is almost always exciting and taught with enthusiasm.

    Am learning a lot

As a music major I have had the privilege to have my training come from the very best. Although RCC is a community college it has one of the best music programs in the State if not the country. These professors really know what they are doing. I have learned so much this semester that I will definitely be using in the future.

Great for these types of students

students who didn't like high school! students who had teachers that didn't care and just passed them along. students who want to save money. students who are serious about transferring. students who want to stay close to home. students who like small classroom environments.

    Tips for prospective students

registration is somewhat difficult, especially since the economy is so bad right now, so when you find out your registration date, mark your calender, set an alarm be online at midnight! also don't be distraught if you don't get the exact classes that you want, there are many classes that fill GE and transfer requirements. plus the more units you have under your belt the closer your registration date gets each semester! my tip for you: take as many classes as you can! also as i mentioned earlier about the books, do not let the bookstore fool you! go to amazon.com, half.com, chegg.com...ect. you can find your books some place else for a lot cheaper!! also buy a parking permit! it will make your life so much easier! in the RCCD there are 3 campuses, you can take online classes from any of them, keep that in mind when you cant find any classes at the city campus! be in your registered classes on the first day of class!! you will get dropped if you are not there, and the waiting list is your best friend. if you are in the top 5 of the waiting list you are basically in the class, there is always someone who doesn't show on the first day of class!

    Bang for the buck

as i mentioned earlier, for only 26 bucks a unit right now its worth the money to stay home for a year, save your money until you can go to the school of your dreams. that is what i am doing right now. i plan on going to the Culinary Institute of America after i get my associates degree. also as i mentioned earlier one of my math teachers was also a teacher at UCR. meaning that i am getting the same education as the university twenty minuets down the free way, but for much cheaper. i would really recommend RCC for your first two years, at least one year of college. also there are many free services on campus. there is a free nurse, psychologist and counseling on campus. the only thing expensive about this school are the books! if you buy all of your books brand new from the book store you would spend more money on the books than the actually class! you can find out what books you need for your classes after you register at the online sight for the bookstore, then you can go to chegg.com and rent your books for almost a fourth of the cost! plus chegg lets you plant a tree somewhere in the world for your good doings!

    Am enjoying being here

RCC has a really good environment to it. the campus is nice, parking isn't bad and the students here are really willing to learn. the campus is only ten minuets away from Riverside Plaza and fifteen minuets away from Tyler mall. this school has a lot to offer, there are many clubs you can join and a lot of activities to enjoy. its not the normal college experience with dorms and sororities but it has its perks too. i have made some good friends here too.

    Am learning a lot

RCCD is a very good community college. this school is a good way to save money while earning your associates degree or before transferring to university. i am in my second semester of college and so far i feel like i have learned so much. this school has the same teachers that you would get at an expensive university. one of my math teachers was also a teacher at UCR. i have gotten better grades here at RCC then all through out high school. the teachers really care here and want you to succeed. my professors are easy to understand and will meet with you any time during their office hours if you need extra help. also at big universities there can be up to 500 students in a class, which i would find difficult to learn in, here at RCC the classes are small. i would say the largest class ofered would probably have 50 students. i really feel like i can learn more when the teacher gets to know me and can relate to me. i am learning a lot!

Great for these types of students

People on a budget or who like the traditional/ modern feel of a college. (its not just buildings, the quadrangle is beautiful!)

    Tips for prospective students

RENT YOUR BOOKS!!!! the most expensive thing is you books! And if yo get the sniffles as much as i do then visit the nurse it free. also get your vaccines there its not free but what ever. go to chegg.com for rentals in pretty much anything.

    Bang for the buck

Well duh its a community college! and even though the price went up its all good. Im not one to complain though since i qualified for that BOG thingy-ma-jiggy

    Am enjoying being here

well this is my first semester coming from another CC in AZ but the people are nice and I'm thinking of joining a club to get more socially involved.

This a great school for anyone who is trying to get in their foot in on college education. Adults returning to school while working can benefit by finding decent flexible hours that fit to their schedule, ultimately achieving a possible second career.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are not sure about college, I recommend taking aleast a class or two to give you a feel about class structure and time flexibility and time management.

    Bang for the buck

VERY AFFORDABLE. Books for a semester would only be couple hundred. $26 a unit would be only $312 for 12 units(full time). Financial aid can cover most of everything if not all (if qualified)

    Am enjoying being here

The riverside campus is gorgeous. I love the landscaping and many trees. The classes are great, awesome professors!

    Am learning a lot

The professors are great. Because of the small class sizes, the teachers can help students questions individually.
