    Campus Safety

R-CCC has security officers patrolling the campus on a regular basis. The security officers are friendly and available to assist whenever possible.

Great for these types of students

R-CCC is a great choice for students who like a small school in a rural area. The school has a relaxed feel about it. If you are from counties around the school, you may find that you know more students and staff members than you expected; this fosters an environment where the students have a network of stakeholders in their education, encouraging them to press on to graduation. R-CCC is also a good school for students who want to get general education requirements completed then transfer to complete courses within their major at a four year school. Students who want to become certified in a field where they wish to work in.

    Bang for the buck

R-CCC is a great value for the price of tuition. You truly receive a world class education. You learn skills that you can use in your personal life, at a university or in the workforce. I must add that the bookstore is overpriced; however, the convenience is an asset to the school. The Learning Resources Center (library) is a great place to study, supplement what you are learning in class and houses the offices of academic advisors, the director of distance education and the Dean of the Learning Resource Center/Information Systems & Assistant Dean of Curriculum Programs.

    What to do for fun

R-CCC sponsors three annual on-campus events: Fall Festival, Homecoming and the Spring Fling. The Fall Festival is one event which displays the best skills of all the clubs at R-CCC. Homecoming features themed days where each day warrants certain attire. On the Saturday ending Homecoming Week, a basketball game is scheduled where two faculty members captain teams of students that go head-to-head. The captain of the winning team gets bragging rights and a commemorative banner on the school website. The Spring Fling is the biggest dance of the school year. It is a formal dance featuring a competition of the best dancers.

    Food and Dining

R-CCC has an on-campus cafeteria and serves hot food. I have never tried the food there, but I hear that it is pretty good.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-campus housing provided by R-CCC.

    Academic Rigor

R-CCC offers courses that are academically challenging. The courses teach skills practical to daily life and preparation to enter either the workforce or a four-year university. The courses often require students to apply what they learn to real-world situations, work in groups to demonstrate concepts discussed in the textbook, and take tests to determine a students mastery of the material.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to purchase new books, not used, for your classes. Some classes require special codes to access tools online, and these codes may not be available in used books. I would also encourage prospective students to form good study habits; create a schedule to study and complete assignments for your classes well before the due date. Sometimes classes require assignments to be submitted online, and there are times when the system is undergoing maintenance or your computer may temporarily malfunction. Additionally, Id advise that if you struggle with self-motivation, take more on-campus classes and fewer online classes. It is easier to get help with on-campus classes than it is to get help with online classes.

    In three sentences

Roanoke-Chowan Community College is a great school to attend if you plan to transfer to a four-year school or get your certificate or degree. The courses challenge you to think critically and make real-world applications. The staff is also friendly and supportive of the students progress in their education.

There are not many, if any, confrontations on campus. The security guards are alert and ready.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want to start small and find big results. If there is something here that you can't find, the school challenges you to make it happen.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our campus has an Arboretum. The Science Club has been working very hard to restore it. We also wish to incorporate the art club so that sculptures could be added.

    What to do for fun

I enjoy playing the piano in the auditorium. Some students play video games, others play football or volleyball in the campus square. I believe that fun is what the student makes it and that boredom is only a result of a boring student.

    Food and Dining

Although the cafeteria manager did not have a vegetarian menu, she still altered her menu for my service.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms in this school, but the environment does promote socialization.

    Academic Rigor

I truly believe that academics relies mostly on the student. The student makes it as rigorous or simple as he/she wishes. The school's responsibility is to provide the necessary tools for success. This school challenges me as it promotes me to challenge myself.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in with an open mind and searching heart. This school can give you what you are looking for if you search for it.

    In three sentences

My school may seem small and insignificant, but the college is a alive. It is diverse in culture and is a gold mine for opportunities. In less than one semester I became president of the Science Club.

    Nursing students or transfer students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school has an early-high school program; I do think that is different.

    What to do for fun

There are many different activities the school and clubs offer. I have been to a few, and they were fun and it was nice to get out of a classroom setting with my fellow peers.

    Food and Dining

Dining room is getting better- believed they just opened it.

    Dorm Life

No dorms. But school is close to different living-options.

    Academic Rigor

I believe it's the student who sets the academic level- the teachers are teaching. Putting the time an effort in does pay off!

    Tips for prospective students

Nursing program is the most respected program available at school; however, this is only my opinion.

    In three sentences

Small, but, yet perfect for me; offers numerous opportunities with smart and wonderful educators - the teachers are almost like family, however, the relationship remains professional. The school would be even better if it had more majors to offer, or if financial aid would cover RN to BSN.
