When choosing a major, make sure you have background knowledge and do NOT leave everything up to your academic adviser to figure out. They don't always know what's best for you, after all, you are not their only student.

Don't be afraid to interact with other students. You can learn a great deal from the different cultures represented on campus. Also make good use of your professor's office hours. Make sure you meet with them even if you don't need help with anything. This will show them that you are a serious student. They may even be able to write a letter of recommendation for you one day. Also when it comes to the meal plan use it carefully. Although we have a pretty decent meal plan where all you pay is for 40% of the price for food it can add up quickly. Beware of union station, they do not accept 60/40 there and you have to pay full price for the snacks in there.

At the beginning of the fall semester its great! So many clubs are out and about some greek parties, different events and activities. There is not much to do outside of campus unless you go to St. Louis. Everyone is super friendly and its easy to meet new people everyday. This university is big enough to always meet someone new; however, that being said, the campus is small enough to recognize a lot of faces around you. Once rush is over and the greeks have the members they want all the parties are mixers (just for greeks) or extremely hush hush. Cougar lanes is the bowling ally on campus and is a lot of fun to go to with friends. There is also a mini arcade with a couple of games and ping pong and pool tables. The fitness center is pretty big and offers a lot of different things to students such as free fitness assessments or personal training at low rates. The campus is absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of trails to go running on. Soccer is the big sport here because we don't have a football team. (The reason for not having a football team is because it keeps our tuition rates lower.) We do have a club football team for those of you that would still like to play. The professors are very nice helpful and actually want to see us succeed. It is easy to get one on one time with a professor or just talk to them at starbucks. Housing is very safe people have to check in and visitors have to leave their ID's at the desk. The work is hard you have to study and do your homework if you expect to pass this is a university. But all in all this is a great school to be go SIUE!!!
