Go to your counselor often and build a rapport with one that you feel comfortable with. Take your core classes as soon as possible but remember to take a couple of random classes to get a feel for what you truly like. Talk to your professors, especially in the classes that you enjoy, so when the time comes you can ask for a recommendation letter.

I would definitely recommend enrolling at Saddleback College. I have been a student here for four years and have enjoyed every bit of it. The atmosphere is comfortable and very free-spirited. Whenever I'm walking through campus, I don't feel as if I am being judged by my peers. As with most college campuses, there are so many different groups of people. There are those who enjoy LARPing on the grass in the quad, those who are playing chess, even live bands and freestyle rapping. In addition to the open-minded atmosphere, another 'plus' with Saddleback is the easy accessibility of online services. The course catalog and class registration process is very simple and user-friendly. This may seem like a small, minuscule detail, but I have been on other community college sites and they are not so easy to use!

Stay focused! Do not drift! Use the many opportunities available to you! Definitely TALK to a counselor, regardless of whether or not you have an academic plan, use the job fairs and the job portals to the best of your abilities, and use the internships that the professors give you access to. Even though Saddleback is a community college, it is important to make a good impression on all of your professors, you never know when they might come in handy. Definitely try to join ASG (Associated Student Government), this will give you a leg up from other students as well as will teach you how to create lasting connections with professors and fellow students.
