    What to do for fun

There are a few restaurants within the immediate vicinity of campus.

    Food and Dining

The on campus dining leaves a lot to be desired, but within 1 mile there are tons of fast food and dining options.

    Dorm Life

As far as i can tell there are no dorms

    Academic Rigor

Not a particularly hard school as long as you do the work.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class and do the work and you cannot fail..

    In three sentences

San jac is a school for those looking to step into the college world for the first time or those looking to return. The campus is cleanly. I just wish the buildings were closer together.

    Campus Safety

I think the campus safety is good. They have call boxes in almost everyplace. I also see the police roaming around, which is great.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life here.

    Clubs and Activities

There could be more variety in their clubs and activities but what they do have is pretty good. I think that open gym is fun and having is game room to relax is really great.

Great for these types of students

Great for any student who want to continue their education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Have not heard of any yet.

    Bang for the buck

The price is really good compared to any university. If you can take a course at San Jac, you should, you can always transfer the credit.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun, for example, the game room, join a sport, play sports for fun, open gym or you can even try to create your own club.

    Food and Dining

I have only been to the cafeteria once and it looked nice. I have heard from a classmate that they wish there was more healthy options. They said that there was healthy options but he wishes there was more.

    Dorm Life

    There is no dorms here.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are bit challenging but that's OK because you want to work for your grades. If you do find it hard to understand, you can always go to the tutoring center and you can always ask your professor for help. Don't not do the work.

    Tips for prospective students

Really research the schools you want. Know what you want and work hard for it, college is not easy. You are paying fir college so make the most of it.

    In three sentences

I like that San Jacinto Community College is close to my home. The professors I have had are all great. San Jac could use a bit more variety in their activities.

    Campus Safety

the campus police is top dog, they actually do their jobs and do a dang good job at it too. if you ever need them, just call them up and they will help you out. everyday they are monitoring the parking lot. so say you accidentally lock your keys in the car, they will unlock your car free of charge. say you got a parking ticket, that you don't think you should have gotten, head over to the police and they will see what they can do. say some careless driver runs the stop sign and hits your car, they will get on top of it writing out the police report, taking pictures, and even there's a working camera recording all the data in the parking lots, so do drive the speed limit which is 15 and make a complete stop..not those california roll and stop.

    Greek Life

    no greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

they have lots of activities and plenty of clubs all majority of interests out there. if you are a science lover, i recommend you join the coyote science club on south campus. they take lots of trips, some are camping, to rock formations like enchanted rock, state parks, white river rafting, and much more. they even have an annual pet vaccination and an annual plant sale to support earth day. if you are unsure what club to join: every year in either spring or fall semester, they host days like coyote day, love your club day, and earth day where you can find out more about the clubs. or just head over to student life.

Great for these types of students

great for hard-working students would actually wants to get further in life. a wonderful school for dual-credit high schoolers, adults coming back to school to better themselves, and freshman. the campus is extremely easy to travel on and you won't get lost.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

one amazing fact: actor patrick swayze attended the central campus location. the school is known for lots of famous baseball players whose once attended here.

    Bang for the buck

the best thing about san jac is that its extremely affordable, you'll get amazing professors who don't just teach to get a paycheck: most of them actually care and are willing to help you succeed. the faculty here are good too. "they treat you like family and sometimes even remember your name by heart." the gym, tutoring, plays, and events on campus is usually free. also, there's a bookstore that sells expensive textbooks, but no fear if you are attending south campus the bookstore across the street is cheap. i absolutely love this school.

    What to do for fun

this question is pretty much subjective as everyone is different. anywho, there are lots of outdoorsy parks, down in kemah and galveston, there's amusement parks. you can drive down galveston to walk the seawall or even go down to houston's tunnel system and walk them...

    Food and Dining

there isn't much on campus, though they have advanced since the time i was accepted there. now, they have their own cafeteria that serves up home-cooked meals requested by the students. they used to have greasy fast food everyday which didn't come with other options of food choice, but no fear...houston is the land of diverse restaurants, so just use yelp to search for whatever you'd like to eat.

    Dorm Life

there's no on campus housing. you either will have to stay with your parents if you are a houston resident, or find yourself an apartment which there are plenty in the area.

    Academic Rigor

academically if you succeed you will be rewarded for it, they have legit clubs like phi theta kappa which is an honor society that recognizes its smart nerds that work hard to succeed. also, there's the national honor society that isn't affiliated with ptk that does the same thing..they have their own honors lounge.

    Tips for prospective students

if you decide to come to this school, the best thing you can do for yourself is attend the student success center and mathlab for free tutoring. throughout my entire college career, i've trusted the excellent tutors in helping me pass my classes with an high score. for instance, in my statistics class, i went from averaging a d to bringing that d to a b. now, that's telling you something.

    In three sentences

    faculty treats you like family

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs but have not gotten a chance to join one.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have smoking areas. Comes with a bench and umbrella too.

    What to do for fun

They have a gym that your tuition covers. Have a game room and even a area to watch a television. It's pretty cool.

    Food and Dining

Food is pretty good but you can also go out to places nearby.

    Dorm Life

It is community college so they don't have any, but you get to stay home!

    Academic Rigor

Most of the professors are kind and they try their best to explain their topics and at the same time to make it challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to school early for a good parking spot! Bring lunch or money if you have classes that have two hours in between them.

    In three sentences

All the staff is kind and helping. School is not as easy as HCC so it provides a bit of a challenge. Its cheaper than the other school's so you wont end up with debt.

    Food and Dining

Decent food options for a community college.

    Academic Rigor

Good starter school for someone who struggled in high school or going back to school after a long absence. Definitely not as difficult as a 4-year university.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply and get accepted early because the best classes fill up quickly, I would definitely research your professors before registering for classes because some are better than others.

    In three sentences

Great starter college! Small classes, flexible schedules, lots of course offerings, and low tuition compared to UH.

Mama mia's has a great student lunch special. Also if for any reason you go to Sally's or Dunken Donuts show them your school ID and they'll give you some discount

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do around here, there is a movie theatre about 10 mins from the college down Pasadena and Red Bluff.

    Food and Dining

There is a Starbucks right across the street which is nice. There are two food places on campus A&W and Pizza Hut express, we also have the Raven Cafe, and then our bookstore also has a small cafe. There is a good little restaurant called Phillys R Us. It's pretty good! There are many fast food and sit down restaurants down Spencer so you won't go hungry.

    Dorm Life

There aren't any dorms but there are many surrounding apartments that you can get discounts on and they are walking distant.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are very helpful just be in communication with them and you should have a smooth semester. Not only that but there are many helpful programs that are offered to you as a student.

    Tips for prospective students

Once you know where the student center is you can find any building. On rainy days be sure to wear rain boots or high shoes, the puddles are crazy in the walkways.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe on campus. The campus police are easy to find and are usually driving around.

Great for these types of students

Continuing education students are becoming more and more common, but San Jac is great for anyone who wants to get their general education classes out of the way before transferring or getting a job.

    Bang for the buck

San Jac is affordable in terms of education. You're going to get good classes and a good degree for a great price. Just remember to show up for class. You're paying for it, so you might as well go. Plus, you know you're going to have a better chance of succeeding if you're actually there.

    What to do for fun

See if you are eligible for the Honors program and join!! Hanging out in the lounge is super fun- and we go on trips! Last year they went to Paris, this year we're going to Germany. If not, the Student Center houses all of the clubs and there are tons to choose from!

    Food and Dining

I have never eaten in the cafe, but there is a Starbucks in the bookstore. On Tuesdays paninis are half off and they are usually pretty good. Plus, it's nice to grab a coffee every now and then, but it's Starbucks so it is pretty expensive. The bookstore has a small selection of snacks to choose from, but there is just about any kind of fast food that you could want around the block on Spencer. Five minutes up Fairmont there is a Panera and a Chipotle, which I have found to be rather convenient.

    Dorm Life

None! Everyone commutes... There are some apartments next door that you could rent if you are so inclined.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the classes! I took 4 honors classes and one regular class and maintained a 4.0. My honors classes required some work and reading, but it wasn't overwhelming or impossible, especially if you can come up with a good study schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

Take an Honors course and see how you do. I took four this semester and loved them. The Honors Program is great and the Lounge is super fun! There are lots of scholarships around, too, that rarely anyone applies for. Take advantage!! Talk to current students to get info about professors. Prior to college I had no idea how important it was to have a good professor. So far, I have had a good experience with mine, but I have heard stories of classes with less-than-stellar professors.

    In three sentences

San Jac has a wonderful environment that encourages learning. The professors and administration are helpful and they are sincerely interested in your success. The Honors Program is great!

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe at San Jac. The parking is great and the campus is beautiful. I love the scenery the campus has to offer.

Great for these types of students

The student life at San Jac is so versatile so any person from any sort of background and you get to meet people from all walks of life. I love this about San Jac you really get to learn about different cultures just by making friends.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a good choice to save money and get your basics out of the way. Or also get an associates and then later transfer to a university. Either way starting at San Jac is a great option to save money and time on classes.

    What to do for fun

What isn't there to do? Student life is always throwing parties and get togethers. Last semester they had a electronic bull to ride and lot's of free food (which is great way to save money)

    Food and Dining

I always bring my lunch, but on the occasions I don't the food is very good. I really enjoy the breakfast tacos they offer. Just be sure to get there before 10 they close.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Each class comes with it's own type of work load so be prepared to work. The way I see it you are going to college to better yourself and get a higher education so you are gonna have to work hard for it. If it was easy everybody would do it.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring food! Yeah, going out to eat with your friends is fun, but in the long run it will save you lots of money and gas from not having to drive around and get food. Also, bring your own coffee or something else to wake you up when you're feeling sluggish that will also save you lots of money. Also, there is a microwave in the book store and by the cafeteria. Use these!

    In three sentences

This school just feels homey and down to Earth. Students are friendly and so are the professors. I'm glad that I am able to come to this college and get the feel of how a major university will flow.

    Campus Safety

Campus police is always on duty at San Jacinto College. They will escort you to your car if you request (and this has actually happened on some occasions). They do their job well, and there is little reason to fear for your safety at San Jacinto College.

    Greek Life

    This category is not applicable.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs and organizations you can join at San Jacinto, from the Computer Club to the Rotaract Club to the Robotics Club. Each of these clubs is geared towards specific students, and there is almost always a club that will suit you. Some, like the Robotics Club, have fascinating things to do. Many clubs also go on field trips periodically. In addition, some of these clubs offer scholarships for specific activities, so join one if you can!

Great for these types of students

San Jacinto College is great for students who don't feel they are ready to transition from high school to a university. They have every reason to, for high schools generally do a poor job of preparing most students for even a community college. It is also great for students who are only pursuing a 2-year or technical degree. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it is ideal for students who simply don't have the money to attend a large, expensive university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no unusual traditions or locations.

    Bang for the buck

San Jacinto College literally gives you a good bang for the buck; tuition is around $150 per class (except for 4-hour courses), far less than at any university. College professors will help you if you ask and actually care about their students' success (in contrast to many professors at universities). Although classes at San Jacinto are easier than at 4-year universities, students are more likely to retain more, as thy are more engaged in the learning process than if they were sitting in an auditorium with 400 other students.

    What to do for fun

San Jacinto College North is a small campus (the smallest of the three) and there aren't nearly as many things to do as there would be at a major university. Nevertheless, there are some forms of diversion. The cafeteria and the B&N store are located in the Student Center, where many people come to relax and socialize. Once a semester, the college holds an event known as Gator Day, which provides food (free during the fall semester) and many different activities. You can join San Jacinto's renowned baseball team or the band. There is something for everyone.

    Food and Dining

The food that San Jacinto College North has to offer is generally overpriced and low-quality. Options are limited, and many are only available on specific days. In addition, it often takes awhile to process your order. The cafeteria is small and doesn't stay open for very long. Eat there if you must, but I would not recommend it. There is a Barnes & Noble store with a Starbucks Caf© close to the cafeteria, but the items are even more overpriced (there is a wide selection of items, though). There are also plenty of vending machines scattered across the campus, though you'll end up paying roughly the same amount for the items that you would if you bought them at the B&N store.

    Dorm Life

    This category is not applicable.

    Academic Rigor

Although classes at San Jacinto College are much more rigorous than that of an ordinary high school (barring AP/Honors classes), they are not very challenging compared to most universities and other community colleges. Studying and working hard are generally the only requirements for getting a B or an A: don't assume that you need to be exceptionally intelligent in order to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should consult different counselors when making their schedules; counselors don't always understand all of the rules and regulations, and it generally takes some searching to find someone competent who can assist you. Also, register early unless you don't mind taking online classes (which rarely get full). Try to take advantage of the numerous scholarship opportunities that San Jacinto College has to offer. Lastly, make sure you arrive early; parking spaces for students are limited and some distance from the main campus.

    In three sentences

San Jacinto College, which I currently attend, is a small and inexpensive alternative to a university. Classes average 15-20 students, and the professors are generally responsive to the individual needs of students. There are a number of different clubs and organizations students can join, from the Book Club to the Math and Engineering Club to Phi Theta Kappa.

    What to do for fun

The fun part of san jac is that they have a great place to play sports anfd videogames for those who enjoy some time to cool off from all the homework.

    Food and Dining

The food is not the greatest but it can fill you up. Not that its bad but some stuff in the menu is just bot good.

    Dorm Life

Its not that big but its good enough also its not to expensive.

    Academic Rigor

Its very inspiring how teachers give it there all when it is to teaching. Also I have learned alot from my professors.

    Tips for prospective students

First always try to keep up with homework. Second study for any big test. Third and final tip go for a career you will enjoy.

    In three sentences

I enjoy the school as much as anyone else whos gone to this college. The reason why I enjoy it is because of the great education that is given to me. Also, the people I met are very nice and friendly.

    Campus Safety

The police officers are often patrolling around the school. Your safety is always secured. You should be careful because you're also easy to get a ticket for parking violation too.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs for your interests. They are really helpful for your school work, communication, and social life too. You also ask for help when you join the clubs.

    What to do for fun

Game room should be a fun place to come. Student center is also another place to hang out, have fun or chat with friend.

    Food and Dining

We have a big area for students to hang out and have meals together. It's called student center building. Fast food and snack are in the building for students to purchase easily. School also provides microwaves for students to warm up their food.

    Dorm Life

We don't have dorm in San Jacinto Community College. It's not a big college so it doesn't have dorm. However, we have three campuses so it's really convenient for you to choose a campus near you live.

    Academic Rigor

Besides classes at school, we have to get more knowledge from books, internet, and meeting outside classes like clubs. We also take note every class to prepare for test if we want a good grade for the test. We have good communicating skill with classmate for group work and know how to share work to one another.

    Tips for prospective students

You should get as much information about school as you can. It's really good for you to be comfortable in the school's environment. Mostly, you should work hard for your school stuff to get the greatest grade you can.

For your core courses, its a good idea to save money here :)

    Food and Dining

Like I said culinary group at North is amazing :) and North is just off of Wallisville where all the fast food and restaurants are.

    Academic Rigor

Real laid back because it's a community college! Most teachers are understanding.

    Tips for prospective students

If your teacher makes or breaks your learning atmosphere, this is a good community college. All the teachers I have had so far have been great! They know what they teach and want you to love it. Almost all of them try and apply what theyre teaching to daily life, which makes class interesting. Get to campus before class starts to get good parking. Oh and at the North campus, they have the culinary group cook the food in the student center and theyre are great cooks! Hmmmmm mmmm! :)

Cop cars are patrolling all over campus all throughout the day. Safety telephone polls were just installed in the parking lot as well.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking into any science field, doing your basics at San Jacinto is the right choice. I am a science major myself, and all of the science instructors really challenge you and prepare you for career of study.

    Bang for the buck

San Jacinto really prepares you for transferring to a university and challenges you just as an instructor would at a University. You can take the same classes that you would at a university and still learn the same material.

    What to do for fun

San Jacinto is always having rock climbing sessions and various other events in the field for students to interact. Since there is a lot of open land throughout campus, I see students often playing soccer, football, frisbee, or just sitting under the shade playing a guitar.

    Food and Dining

San Jacinto has various food carts throughout campus and has a pizza hut inside the student lounge. There are random days on campus where food companies will come and hand out free food during the day.

    Dorm Life

San Jacinto does not offer dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The science and math classes are a difficult bunch, but San Jacinto offers free tutoring in the library and there are many different study group opportunities.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend that you take an equal balance of difficult and easy classes. It is important to not overwhelm yourself in your first year of college. Also, a student would be wise to invest in a planner and be well organized!

    In three sentences

San Jacinto College is college that takes education seriously who carries a staff who genuinely cares about your success in life. They do not consider themselves to be a community college but emphasizes the importance of having the same level of education as a university. My teachers have strived to prepare me for transferring to a university.

Various clubs have been formed on the campus. These clubs usually meet every week, if not more often, and allow for students to join together and do what they're interested in. There is a club for almost every single thing, from the Anime Club to the Gay-Straight Alliance club. Though varying per club, most do go on field trips and travel places together as part of their learning experience.

    Food and Dining

There is not a great variety when it comes to dining on campus. However, quality food is provided at moderate prices by Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Chik-fil-a, etc. There is also a moderately-sized food court in which one can simply find a seat and enjoy their meal - individually or with company.

If planning on attending San Jacinto, do not expect to get easy grades. Real effort and work is needed for a successful output on grades - your grade truly reflects what you know.

    In three sentences

The San Jacinto Community College is one of the rare colleges which offer various classes/courses at an affordable price for students while allowing for various on-campus events; however, just because it is more affordable does not mean the quality of the courses deteriorate. The professors go in-depth with the course work, and aim to grade each student fairly based upon their knowledge and understanding of the course. Every day, various of the campus clubs host different events throughout the campus (highest concentrated in the Student Learning Center), making the atmosphere quite lively.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others, depending on how the teacher runs his/her class. I recommend that you search up all of your professors before you register for the class. Having a difficult teacher could be the difference between an A and a B. If a class seems too hard, continue believe in yourself, and remember to have a positive mindset. Prepare for your tests as well as you can, and get help when you need it. Your grades are reflected by how much effort you put into your work. There aren't that many assignments, so you should do your best on everything. You should take your classes seriously, even if you don't think that you need to.

    Tips for prospective students

Make as many friends as you can; it really helps to have someone you can turn to when you need help. Be involved and participate in class; it will help you apply your knowledge, and you will stand out to your professors. On another note, it can be hard to find parking sometimes. You should try to be at the campus about thirty minutes before class starts. Most classes, if not all, end at the same time, so it might be busy in the parking lot as you leave as well. Some people may find it easier to do something productive in that time, rather than waiting in a line of cars for fifteen minutes.

    In three sentences

San Jacinto is a great places to learn and build lasting relationships. The environment is very friendly, and the professors have a passion for teaching. You'll look forward to coming to class every day.

San Jacinto has annual activites such as Gator Day. Gator Day is basically a small festival during the last month or so of the semester.

    Food and Dining

Our cafeteria has student chefs who are majoring in Food Service, etc. The food is delicious and dining is spacious and great atmosphere!

    Dorm Life

I do not stay on campus.

    Academic Rigor

As with any other college, San Jacinto is challenging but professors' will go out of their way to help you if needed.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not slack off! Just because it's a two year college does not mean the professors' will give you slack! Research efficiently, be proactive, and be ready to learn and take notes.

    In three sentences

It's a great school for students who are intimidated by the big University life. San Jacinto offers a plethora of Majors and opportunities when attending such as but not limited to: Work-Study, friendly academic/financial aid counseling, and a great environment. Once students' attend San Jacinto, the pressure will be off and they will be able to transfer to a university without feeling that intimidation.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is great. I have never had anyone break into my car or have had anything stolen. Still keep in mind to not leave your things around. I always locked my car and kept my personal belongings in my bag. Also they are very quick to write up parking tickets, if you get one I would suggest going to the police center there and filing a claim against it. In the entire time that I attended the school I received 3 tickets. One for not having a parking sticker, 1 for parking in a visitors spot and the last one for parking somewhere I wasn't suppose too. I got ALL THREE dismissed because I went to the police department and filled out a form saying why I didn't think I should have to pay for it so it's worth going through the trouble to talk to them.

    What to do for fun

They have a small movie center near the cafeteria where you can watch television. A lot of people play card games in this area too. You can get your hair done in the cosmetology department for very cheap. They have special events sporadically through out the year with anything from food and prizes to giant bouncy slides. They are always putting out fliers of seminars and events that everyone can participate in as well. If you are looking outside of the school there are plenty of fast food and sit down restaurants you can eat at.

    Food and Dining

Food is about average. They offer fast food mainly like pizza hut and burgers. Sometimes they serve chick-fa-le. You can also get basic sandwiches, cookies, candies, breakfast items, hot and cold drinks at the store.

    Dorm Life

I never stayed in or saw a dorm, I live in the area.

    Academic Rigor

The school is about average and well balanced. Some classes are very difficult and bury you under homework and test. Other classes are easy going and even provide study guides. It is a typical college mixed with different levels of intensity. It also depends a lot on the professors, I use the website ratemyprofessor.com and that helps guide me on what teacher I think is going to suit my needs best.

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to go to the student tutoring center. Everyone their is so helpful and wants you to succeed. I was embarrassed the first time I went because I felt like I was unintelligent but they were all very patient and broke things down for me. I know because of the student center I was able to pass several classes that I would not have been able to do on my own.

    In three sentences

The school was very helpful to me, as a single mother the classes were affordable and offered many different times for class so I could go in the day or night. Sometimes I even messed up my schedule and missed the deadline to take a class I wanted and there were counselors and teachers who were very willing to help me. I went there for four years because I worked and raised my son but I had a great experience and am grateful for all the support I received along the way.

San Jacinto College has classes of all difficulties. Some classes are harder than others, while some are a piece of cake

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard, and get to know your professors!

    In three sentences

An excellent community college for all subjects. The math department at San Jacinto College is filled with intelligent professors that are willing to help you learn at any level. Every professor I had was very knowledgeable in their subject, and taught with the utmost clarity.

    Campus Safety

In the two years I went to this campus, I only heard of a couple of small instances that occured on campus, and the campus police made sure everyone was aware of the situations through e-mail, in classes, etc. Overall, I felt very safe.

    Greek Life

The only Greek life I saw for the campus was Phi Theta Kappa, which is for people who pledge to keep their GPA at a certain level. I was not a part of this group though, so I don't have any personal experience.

    Clubs and Activities

Plenty of clubs to choose from on campus. However, all the activities are mostly revolved around first year students.

    Bang for the buck

I personally chose to go to San Jac first to save money. I lived with my parents and worked, and therefore I was able to pay all of my tuition and books. So if you're going to live with your parents, or you have a child and need to save as much money as possible, this is a great way to get your basics out of your way.

    What to do for fun

There are little activities that happen every one-two months, but most I felt were FYE (first-year experience) things. Once you're in your second year, you feel a bit left out. There are also plenty of clubs to choose from, although I personally did not have the free time to join any.

    Food and Dining

There is an A&W/Pizza Hut and a Starbucks on campus, but those are the only options. The food is okay, but gets very boring after a while.

    Dorm Life

The San Jacinto South campus does not have dorms, but there are apartments and houses near campus.

    Academic Rigor

I'm rating the academics as three stars because teachers that anyone I've talked to and myself have ever had have either been very hard or very easy. I've never had one that was in the middle.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I ever had was to use ratemyprofessor.com. Although you can't ever fully rely on a website that anyone can write on, the reviews given were at least 80% truthful and help you select the kind of teacher that you want. I would also suggest going to orientation as soon as possible, and always try to register the day registration opens to get the best teachers and class times for you.

    In three sentences

San Jacinto College South always has great class sizes, plenty of places to study, and overall, good teachers as well. There was always a councilor that was available to help you with your degree plan and make sure you pick classes that transfer to the college that you plan on attending. You're also with students of ALL ages, from high school to 50's and 60's, which is nice because you can get many different outooks on everything.

    Campus Safety

It is a really Open Campus but they did have a cop or two in the office.

    Greek Life

    None

    Clubs and Activities

The school basically has a club for every kind of person which is a good thing because you can always meet new people with the same interest as you.

Great for these types of students

San Jacinto is great for students that still need time to figure out with they want to do.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There locations are a little unusual since there are 3 of them they are mostly in the city unlike most colleges.

    Bang for the buck

The best part about this school is the fact that you can take university classes for such a good price.

    What to do for fun

At San Jacinto there are a lot of clubs you can join and they always have some kind of event going on at the campus which is a fun way to meet new people.

    Food and Dining

They have a nice cafe' and a Starbucks a college student best friend.

    Dorm Life

    No Dorms

    Academic Rigor

They are not that strict on education at all.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I could give are, know what you want to do and if not just go into general studies. Ask questions before you make a final decision, also try to have a bond with the professor since the student to teacher ratio is not that big. And my last tip would be if you plan on transferring make sure you take classes that the school you want to go to will take so you don't waste money.

    In three sentences

I would rate this college as a somewhat decent college, I would only recommend it if you felt you were not ready to leave home or you wanted to save money. In some areas they could in prove on some of there staff. I would also say that if your transferring know exactly where you planned on going.

    Campus Safety

Every time I am on campus I see one or two campus police officers. They also have a program that allows you to, if you sign up for it, receive a text message on your phone if there is any kind of emergency on campus. However, no one can ensure our safety on campus. All students should stay alert and aware of their surroundings on any campus.

    Clubs and Activities

I have not joined any yet, but there are plenty of options.

Great for these types of students

I honestly feel that San Jac is ideal for any kind of student. There are many young students there who probably enrolled right after high school. But I have also seen older students as well. I am studying general studies as San Jac and have had a pretty good experience so far. But there are also lots of other routes a student could go at San Jac.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that San Jac is reasonably priced. I am satisfied with the education I am receiving so far.

    What to do for fun

Well I have two young children, so I don't really spend any out-of-class time on campus. But there are many clubs and organizations, and plenty of sports and extracurricular activities to choose from.

    Food and Dining

San Jac has a Starbucks in the bookstore, which I love!!! They also have a little store attached with convenience type foods. And there is also a diner with more food options and plenty of seating.

    Dorm Life

I do not live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The workload is practical, even in the mini-term classes. As long as you don't procrastinate, the amount of work is ok. I have actually found my classes to be pretty interesting, some more than others of course. But even my history classes have been interesting, and history was not my strong subject in high school. Having an interest in your studies definitely helps to manage the work.

    Tips for prospective students

Start the financial aid process early because it can take some time. Speak to a counselor before registering to get a plan together; they are very good at helping you sort things out and plan ahead.

    In three sentences

San Jac offers numerous classes online, which makes it much easier for me to continue with my education. The staff in the financial aid office is very helpful. The counselors are also very nice and well prepared to answer my questions.

    What to do for fun

There are interesting physical education classes like yoga and a gym to workout in. There are many, many clubs for a future student or just a student to attend if they want t.

    Food and Dining

There is a basic cafe with pizza hut, starbucks, and vending machines so a student might want to eat before hand if they want a real meal. But for a simple in between class snack, its prepared for various appetites.

    Dorm Life

I'm not sure how campus life is because these are community colleges, but at sanjac.edu they have more information.

    Academic Rigor

There are good teachers and a variety of classes at this San Jacinto Campus and the other two campuses also. If a student needs help finding a good teacher, ratemyprofessor.com shows what STUDENTS think of teachers, not what other teachers or the school think of the teachers.

    Tips for prospective students

The most important tip to be given is that a student going to this campus should use the extra things that they offer. It can help you with school work because tutoring sessions are ran by people who did well in courses that others have trouble in so its not just people hired in a single subject.

    In three sentences

San Jacinto College is helpful with student education. They have tutoring sessions, many computers for school or personal use, and study rooms for a student to study in silence.

Great for these types of students

San Jac has a great Nursing Program. They also have a great baseball team.

    Bang for the buck

This is a great school to pursue a nursing career with low tuition rates.

    What to do for fun

Houston has tons of things to do for any particular interest you may have.

    Food and Dining

There is only one place to eat on campus but plenty of fast food restaurants in the immediate area of all three schools.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms at South Campus. You must live off campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are challenging, depending which professor you get.

    Tips for prospective students

Try not to get Professor Green for Algebra; Professor Bolen for Government I.

    In three sentences

San Jac is a small school with three locations, Central, North and South, which I attend. If you want small classes and less expensive tuition it is a great school to get your basics finished then transfer to a University.

Music - The theory program can compete with nearly any school in Texas 4-year schools included. Audio engineering - The studio is state of the art. Nursing AA - They have a brand new building.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The audio department has one of the best recording studios in the state of Texas.

    Bang for the buck

It really depends on the program and what you're planning to do with it.

    What to do for fun

Nothing. The campus, and campus life are boring.

    Food and Dining

Blah, there's not a lot, and what they have is overpriced.

    Dorm Life

    There is no dorm life

    Academic Rigor

A lot of teachers give more extra credit than actual exams.

    Tips for prospective students

Figure out where you want to transfer as soon as possible, preferably even before you start at San Jac, so you can start talking to their counselors. Because the counselors at San Jac aren't really helpful and you might end up with a lot of hours you don't need.

    In three sentences

It is a good Community College, a very good alternative to save some money on college. However, most of the campus is in pretty bad shape, although they are updating a lot of it. The music program is really good though, the faculty is outstanding.

A few things I wish I would have known prior to attending would be; get to campus early in order to find a parking spot. First thing you should do is memorize your G#. Get a back pack or bag and keep everything you could possibly need in it ex. pens, highlighters, extra paper, your flash-drive.

Great for these types of students

San Jacinto College is a good College for just about any type of student. It offers a variety of programs and classes to help students achieve their goal degree.

    Tips for prospective students

A big tip that I can give to prospective students is to make sure you stay on top of dates and deadlines. Make sure to write them down on a calendar and not overlook them. This especially important when dealing with financial aid.

    Bang for the buck

Being that San Jacinto College is a community college the price of the classes or programs are fairly reasonable verses a major university. However, any college is still expensive though. Being a single mom not getting much extra help financially, any kind of extra help to be applied to my tuition is always a blessing.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying being at San Jacinto College because it is a very casual and friendly campus. Every time I have needed help with admission, counselors or financial aid everyone is very friendly and very helpful. It never feels nerve racking to get help or information when needed. Other students seem to be very friendly as well and easy to get along with. All of this stuff making it very enjoyable to go to class every day at this college.

    Am learning a lot

I feel yes that I am learning a lot from San Jacinto College. I have been in the Surgical Tech program, CNA course and currently in the LVN nursing program. Each time I have completed a class I feel I have truly learned something from my teachers that I can take on to my next class to help me further my education in the medical field. I plan to attend San Jacinto College as well when I complete the LVN program to transition over to RN program. I feel like San Jacinto College has very caring instructors that care about their students and want them to succeed so they take the time to make sure we learn everything we need to know. My grades have been A's and B's for each class I have taken. So I definitely feel I'm learning a lot at this college.

Great for these types of students

There is at least 30 different student organizations on campus. This school is great for the students who want to improve their resumes and make themselves competitive for scholarships to four-year universities.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Don't just attend classes. Join clubs and organizations. The people you meet can impact you for the rest of your life. Also the teachers here want to help you, take advantage of that!

    Bang for the buck

When I graduated high school I applied to several universities. A semester at Texas Tech would have totaled near $20,000! My first semester I took 17 hours at San Jacinto Community College and paid a total of $1300! Bang for the buck is an accurate description.

    Am enjoying being here

I love San Jacinto Community College. It is close to home and I have been able to keep a lot of old friends as well as make some new ones.

    Am learning a lot

The experienced professors know what they are talking about. One of my accounting professors is currently a CPA and the other has a PhD in accounting and handles all the finances in her personal lumber business.

Great for these types of students

This college offers classes that can accommodate any schedule and any type of budget. It is also great for high school students who are not really sure of their majors, or who know what they want to major in, but haven't found the right university to acclimatize to what the student wants to study. The classes have the necessary restrictions regarding grading and due dates, but the professors are more inclined to help each student individually. I have found my place here at San Jac's Honors Program as Vice President, and as reporter for Phi Beta Lambda. I am also involved in the Gay/Straight Alliance project, and a member of TSEA; I am currently working on gathering enough hours to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Aside from school, I am a part time florist and I volunteer at a nursing home. The flexibility of scheduling a full load of classes has left me with with time for socialization, and for one-on-one help from my professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not underestimate San Jac's capacity to provide you with education and socialization. The professors take notice of individual growth, and if you make a good impression, they will recommend you to go on free trips and give you access to some overlooked scholarships. They will also introduce you to other members of their department and of higher departments; the higher the department that recognizes you, the better the recommendation letters you will receive.

    Bang for the buck

I have been able to get a thorough education for under $1,200 per semester, and I have experienced a rigorous college life on a more manageable level for a freshman in college.

    Am enjoying being here

It is close to work and home, and provides me with adequate amounts of college life without completely overwhelming me.

    Am learning a lot

This college offers an eclectic amount of classes to help prepare any student to be very well-rounded in whatever field of study they choose. Personally, I am finding that my psychology course has not only helped me better analyze literature, but also communicate more effectively with others.

Great for these types of students

I highly recommend any student who want to either get their basics out of the way before transferring to a university. Also, single mothers like myself have been assisted with childcare in which San Jac is involved in. And also just getting certified in a certain profession, is a great start to a developing future.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your financial aid, classes, studying and don't be afraid to ask questions. Also getting involved in extracurricular activities are a great way to boost your chances of getting into a university if planned.

    Bang for the buck

My tuition and fees for out-of-district was $969. This price is also while being a full-time student with four classes. The financial aid office also excels in their work-study program. So while your working off your tuition, you still manage to have a stable income.

    Will enjoy being here

The campuses are HUGE.The library is cozy and has two floors. The classrooms are always adjusting to students preferred temperature, and the food is wonderful. The teachers and staff are also very helpful and on their game 100%.

    Will learn a lot

I'm definitely learning a lot, not just in my classes but outside of them as well. San Jac has given me tips and advice about life once I'm actually forced into the real world.

Great for these types of students

It really is a great school and you have just as many opportunities to express yourself as you would have at a 4 year college. Because of the size of the school you are able to meet new people more easily, especially if you get involved in the many provided organizations. So if you prefer to be in small learning environment and don't have the money to go to a big-time university, then San Jacinto College is great for you.

    Tips for prospective students

A lot of people say negative things about San Jac because it is just a community college. People from my school would call it the 13th grade. But the way I see it you still get the same education that you would get at a 4 year university. You shouldn't listen to the negative opinions of others influence your decision to attend this college.

    Bang for the buck

The reason I chose to attend a community college first instead of going straight to a 4 year university was due to the economic stress that my family is undergoing. It just seemed economically smarter to attend San Jac first, plus its also really close to home.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at San Jac. It really gives me a sense of home. And its also impossible to get lost around campus. This cuts backs from the possiblity of getting to class late. The college also has a lot of great places to relax between classes, such as the courtyard, and the game room, the cafe, and the lounge which are all in the student center.

    Am learning a lot

I go to San Jacinto College North Campus and I think that the professors there are really good. Most of them are really helpful. The one thing that I like most about the college itself is that the class size is smaller which makes it easier for your professor to get to know you. And personally for me it makes it easier to learn and pay attention in class.

Great for these types of students

Wonderful for students who don't want to spend money, don't care who they go to for a degree, and who want in and out real quick.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely great on price! I see no point in attending a more expensive higher education school if the money isn't there to spend when attending a community college, especially this one, is so much easier and cheaper, and the credits transfer to other local colleges. Not to mention, I only live about 15-30 minutes away based on traffic. I find it very reasonable in pricing.

    Will enjoy being here

I should enjoy it! I have been on campus before with other people and heard many good reviews. I expect to have a pleasant experience be it in class or online.

    Will learn a lot

I know I will enjoy this school and its system of learning. I know many people who have attended and not one was upset about the classes or professors.

Great for these types of students

At San Jacinto, I have seen all kinds of students of different ages, ethnicities, religions, interests, and majors! I think this school is suited for just about everyone; even non-English speakers. There's an education track for everyone who attends, and there is always someone to help you with your decision.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring your lunch! It seems like such a simple tip, but it will save you a lot of money from those fast food trips everyday! Plus it's healthier. Also, read the textbook for your class. Since San Jacinto has implemented the QEP It's in the Book! teachers have been using textbooks in their lectures more to ensure the student that the information being taught is in the book. I would definitely advise to read your textbook because it helps! A super important thing to remember, though obvious, is to go to class. Once you have signed up for a course, you're paying for it, so not going to class is only hurting you; your education and finances! Make sure to sign up for class times you know you will be able to attend; if you're a night owl, don't sign up for an 8:30 history course! Know your limits with time. Most importantly, though, once you start school, don't lose track of what you need to do. Remember due dates and homework!

    Bang for the buck

This is where San Jacinto excells most. The education there is worth more than you are charged at the business office! Attending this school is a bargain, and you can rest assured that you will get good professors and classmates. Definitely the perfect place for anyone looking to get an associates' degree or just transfer to a 4-year college; and your money will be well spent towards a great education.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus itself is very well kept and clean, and the student center area is perfect for sitting outside on a cool day to study! Most of the students are very friendly to one another, and are willing to help fellow peers with questions. The office personnel are also very nice and hard-working. The business office is very helpful and the financial aid office even more so. Overall, when I have a question or problem, at this school someone is there to help with a kind face and lots of information.

    Am learning a lot

Over the course of 4 semesters, I can say that I have learned a great deal from the professors at San Jacinto. As with any school, there have been ups and downs, but overall, the material is always taught in an organized and efficient manner. Professors are very open to questions, and will assist you until you understand the material.

Great for these types of students

I'd say that just about everyone would find a place they fit in. If you're not very social, there are wonderful places you could go to do your work in peace, in several locations you can even borrow a small room just to study or do whatever. If you're social, there are many places you could go to be around people and get work done or just talk and learn more. There is also a variety of clubs you can join that fit your interest, look good on a resume and learn with other people in.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend this school. If you want to graduate from a big college then I recommend this school all the more for your basics. San Jac is a 2-year school and it just makes so much more sense to me to get your basics out of the way at a lower cost school, that could also cover the basics better than a bigger school. You can still go to and graduate from your dream school (mine is UTD) this way and it wont cost as much. Just remember to make sure to take courses that your dream school will accept! One more thing: Grades. If you want to do well, you have to put some effort in. Let the teacher know if you have a hard time figuring something out. They will help you through it. Also, listen to other students when you're registering for classes (make sure not to wait until the last minute). Some teachers are harder than others and some teachers just teach better than others. If you want to do well, make sure you show up for every class and take good notes. If you have to miss a day, talk to your professor, he/she probably understand. Having a friend or just swapping numbers and e-mails with someone is also a great thing to have or do. They can study with you or you can borrow notes from each other if you have to. Good luck!

    Bang for the buck

Community college I thought would be more of a bad thing, but with the economy as it is, I think everyone should go to one. The cost of my tuition (out of district) when I was enrolled in 5 classes last semester was about $1,180!!! That's wonderful for me! Especially since the teachers are focused much more on their students than on their salary; this and smaller class sizes can also help you learn more than a bigger school.

    Am enjoying being here

Every student and staff member of the school is so nice! There's a very useful library I go to all the time, a very nice and helpful student success center, and a computer lab that's open all the time it seems. If you need help with anything you can ask pretty much anyone and if they can't help you by themself, they'll go out of their way to make sure you find someone who can.

    Am learning a lot

I'm definitely learning more about each subject I'm taking than I did in high school in a similar subject. If I don't understand something, I just ask a teacher and he or she will work one on one with me until I get it, changing the way they try to teach me and trying to help me understand my mistakes.
