Savannah State makes tons of learning opportunities available to you, but you have to seek them out on your own. Going to class is not enough! The library has great hours, and there are a dozen tutors on campus. If you utilize these your grades will really improve. Make sure if you are placed in 100- level classes, you do your best to test out quickly! Also keep in mind that your professors are your friends! Do not go an entire semester without stopping by during their office hours.
Am enjoying being here
Savannah is a beautiful city and the people are much more friendly and accomodating than they were in my home state. There is also plenty to do, two large malls (Oglethorpe and Savannah), River Street in Downtown Savannah, very historical and festive. However, all of these activities are hard to partake in without transportation! Remain outgoing and make a genuine effort to meet people, go out with friends in large groups, and away from private residences.
Bang for the buck
If you are a resident of Georgia you should have no problem. The Georgia Hope Scholarship and Equalization Grant will take care of relatively all of your needs. But there are lots of scholarships offered that financial aid will not mention to you to keep them secret. Out-of-state students, like myself have a slight problem! There is a waiver you can apply for for in-state tuition, but no one will tell you unless you ask, and the deadlines will be mum on all of these offers. Be aggressive, demand assisstance!
Tips for prospective students
Always be on top of your financial aid, meal plans and housing and check out scholarships early, as you will not be informed of them after you've been accepted.
Great for these types of students
I would say this school is great for natives of Savannah and the surrounding areas, especially if you have you have your own transportation, you will need it!

Professors take the time to work with you if you need help. That is if you don't give them a hard time during class. They normally help during office hours, so make sure you find out the hours and use it to your advantage.

Use your time wisely!!! Time Management!

Savannah has a lot of sight seeing you can do. Savannah is a historic city, so everything has a meaning behind it when you get to the historic part of Savannah. I have learned a lot about the Savannah, Georgia history as well as African American History just by being in Savannah.

If you just stay in your room and not participate in activities or enjoy the city, then you will not enjoy yourself and would want to transfer schools. That is one of the biggest problems college students have with their colleges but never admit it.
Bang for the buck
SSU is one of the cheapest public HBCU anywhere. But I am a cheap, so I complain about money. It is a great school to attend if money is the issue.
Tips for prospective students
Always call the Financial Aid building about funding for school, as while as Housing to make sure you have a room to stay in when you get there.

Everything is going electronic now, so your email and PAWS account will need to be checked daily.

But stay on top of Financial Aid!!! They are mighty slow!
Great for these types of students
Get involved within the school; it will make the college experience worth your money and time. You are already paying for it within the tutition, so you might as well use it and not let the money go to waste.

I love my HBCU. In every department I have had the opportunity to work with, someone is always ready to help you do better. Building connections is key, but if you do the experience is great, and you can truly get anywhere from here.
Tips for prospective students
1) Make sure to turn in all your paperwork early. Try to get your stuff together before the rush, when everyone will be in the financial aid, and bursars office.
2) If you plan to stay on campus make sure to get to know your CA. They are there to help you, but sometimes you need to make the first effort.
3) Plan to be involved, make sure you have your academics together your first semester, but make sure to look at some of the organizations on campus. There is bound to be something that interests you.
4) If you are from out of state there is a representative just for you, who is suppose to help you with scholarships, and simple things to make your first year a little easier.
5) There is a freshman academy that will allow you to explore the campus and all it has to offer, along with alternative trips for breaks that you could become a part of to get to know your incoming class better.
Academic Rigor
Depending on your major, however each major is designed for you to actually leave knowing something, so don't just try to get through with mediocre work.
Dorm Life
Get to know your CA. They can make your experience.
What to do for fun
Get involved!

This is a great school if you love small class rooms and campuses.
Tips for prospective students
Go to class during homecoming week, that's when most professors give out extra credit.
Academic Rigor
Most of the professors are willing to work with you one on one if you are struggling but only if they see that you are trying in their class.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is really fun. Being in a dorm will help you create a lot of friends and make great connections.
Food and Dining
The café is the best place to eat on campus. The U or union is good too but you will get tired of eating fast food.
What to do for fun
check your campus email updates, this email will keep you posted on all the campus events and most of all FREE TEE-SHIRTS !

Savannah State University is a proud HBCU with a campus full of history. This University has already opened doors for me, giving me different opportunities for a career path. The University motto of you can get anywhere from here is quite fitting.
Tips for prospective students
A tip that I can give to prospective students is to use the multitude of resources that the University offers you, whether it be the library or any tutoring programs available. Also, try getting involved with a club or organization and be a well-rounded student.
Academic Rigor
I truly feel that a lot of the professors here love what they do and care about teaching every student the best that they can. Those professors that I feel challenged by the most are usually the ones who put the most effort into teaching me.
Dorm Life
There is a variety of dorms to live in around campus. Also, there are services that can help with any problems that come your way.
Food and Dining
There is a good variety of places to get food around campus. With so many places to choose from, it gives you the opportunity to eat healthy.
What to do for fun
There are always sports games that you can attend throughout the year to support the team. There is also a recreational room with pool and Foosball tables. Also, there is a swimming pool and basketball gym.

Am learning a lot
The teachers are very nice if you take the time to get to know them. Tons of assistance from different organizations and groups if you in need of help with homework or tutoring.
Am enjoying being here
The campus is beautiful; the people are great; and the culture is extraordinary! Everyone is nice and very helpful. There are plenty of things you can do in order to stay involved.
Bang for the buck
Tuition is not all that expensive its actually very reasonable. And the teachers do make you work for your grades but you definitely get your money's worth.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure you stay on top of your financial aid. Stay organized and always put homework and school work FIRST! Remember you are paying for this so if you slack off you have to pay even more to retake the class! SSU welcomes everyone and makes you feel like family as soon as you step on campus.
Great for these types of students
If you enjoying meeting people, being active in the community, and learning come to ssu!

Am learning a lot
While I don't find my courses to be too strenuous, I do feel like I'm learning. Some may complain that the teachers are too lax, or feel as though they're not doing their job, but in my own opinion your learning experience is your own. The teacher's teaching, or lack thereof, shouldn't deter you from learning as much as you can.
Am enjoying being here
I enjoy it at Savannah State, but sometimes I feel like it's a little slow. Coming here from the city where it seems like there's always something to do, it was a hard transition for me to get used to it down here. However, the people I have met have been pleasant, and I love the weather. Also, Downtown is great for shopping.
Bang for the buck
While I do feel as though I'm learning, and I enjoy the school, I'm not sure if my money has been well invested. A lot of development is going on at the school, using the tuition of the students, and I feel like since it's our money being used, we should have more of a say of what is going to be implemented and built. I also feel that experiences in the main offices could go smoother. I've heard students say that the office had misplaced a document of theirs, made a mistake in their student bill, etc.
Tips for prospective students
I would definitely come to visit the school first. I didn't, and wound up still enjoying the campus, but my experience could have turned out a lot differently. Also, some of the people in my incoming class found each other on Facebook. I recommend joining your class page, or following each other on Twitter. It gives you the opportunity to get a brief glimpse of who you're going to be meeting.
Great for these types of students
Students that feel they can handle both the slow days and the livelier days. If you're the kind of person that feels the need to always have something to do, or has a hard time making your own fun, this wouldn't be an ideal school. I would recommend this school for students that can enjoy their downtime as well as going out.

Savannah State University is one of the Historically Black College/University in the South and the only university that lies on the coast. The campus is beautiful and they offer great academic and extracurricular activities that one can join. The staff and the students are interactive and fun to be around.
Tips for prospective students
Once you enroll into Savannah State University, do not lose focus on the reason that you chose the college, which should be academically based. Having fun should come after academic success.
Academic Rigor
The classes on campus are not taught on intermediate levels. This means that the courses will be challenging. Therefore, when it comes to your academics one must focus on his or her work.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is very interesting. The rooms are setup in such a way that each roommate has his or her privacy. And if there is a problem that arises between the two residents, you are given the option to apply for a room transfer.
Food and Dining
On campus there are three facilities at which one can eat. These three facilities have their own individual style of cooking. There is always something new to eat on campus.
What to do for fun
For fun there are a lot of activities organized to make college life entertaining. There are DJ's, block parties, and more. You have to be here to see some of the activities presented by the student affairs office.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The top locations on campus would be the Student Union, The Circle and the dorms. These locations are where the majority of students on campus will hang out. These locations are also where a majority of the activities on campus take place.
Great for these types of students
This college is ideal for students hoping to build a career based in the science field. This is also the ideal college for social students.
