The school is very chill though it could use more activities for students to join in on. The wifi is not the best quality and needs fixing in order for students to finish assignments on campus. Overall the school is a wonderful place for students to start at in order to get into a good transfer school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual location on campus that I have come to love is the reflection pond. I am not quite certain if this is what the place is called... but that's what I know this place as because it gives me a soothing and relaxing feel every time I am there. It is located right outside the University Partnership Building. If you are looking for some reflection time... do visit the reflection pond!

    Bang for the buck

I chose to attend Seminole State because it was one of the few inisututions which I could afford at the time... and I do not regret it the least bit. I am satisfied with the service I was given and the education is exceptional because the professors are truly invested in your learning.

    What to do for fun

Get involved in the various clubs and organizations on campus. Getting involved with not only provide you with the needed entertainment but it will also give you the friends you have been searching for.

    Food and Dining

Nature's table is both nutritious as well as tasty! The soups and salads are delicious! The environment is very relaxing and the customer service is exceptional!

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at this institution however there are quite a bit of apartments you can live on off campus, they aren't too far away!

    Academic Rigor

If you are searching for academic rigor, please enroll in the honors institute at Seminole State as it will give you all the skills you need to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

I advise all incoming students to make the most of each and every opportunity given to you at this lovely institution. My experience at Seminole was enhanced because I made the decision to become involved and took the time to do more than just attend classes. Though it is a commuter college there are still plenty of activities you can get involved with to help you succeed. Please, please, please do more than just attend classes. Get involved and transform yourself. Go state, go far!

    In three sentences

Seminole State College is truly an exceptional institution with many opportunities offered to its students. The environment is geared to promote student success and the faculty and staff are extremely insightful and always willing to help. I am so happy I made the decision to attend Seminole because I was given ample opportunity to prove myself both academically and was challenged to become the best version of myself.

    Campus Safety

Seminole State College is very concerned for the safety of their students. The school offers the wonderful feature of sending text messages to students if they have detected any danger.

    Bang for the buck

Getting a good education can be expensive. Seminole State College will provide a great education without leaving you in debt for the rest of your life.

    What to do for fun

Seminole State College offers a verity of social opportunities. There are clubs, student government, and social activities regularly.

    Food and Dining

Each campus has a Nature's Table. I always enjoy eating at Nature's Table. Working, going to class, and taking care of a home can leave me with no time to eat before class. Nature's Table allows me to eat quickly before or after class and still eat something nutritional. It definitely beats going through a drive through.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging and exciting without being overwhelming.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to enroll in classes as soon as possible. Attend as many classes as possible. Do your homework and be on time for class.

    In three sentences

I thoroughly enjoy attending Seminole State College. There are multiple, conveniently located campuses. The staff is genuinely concerned about a students success.

Great for these types of students

-Students who do not want to get in debt early -Students who want smaller class sizes -Students who want a good education -Students who like to get involved -Students who love opportunities

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are not really any unusual traditions on campus that I know of. We do have a Planetarium that has shows for free for students weekly.

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State will not break your wallet. Class costs are very low compared to major Universities in Florida. You definitely get the bang for the buck! Do not purchase books at the bookstore because you can find them cheaper elsewhere.

    What to do for fun

Participate in the Student Life Events that tend to happen Monday and Wednesday from 12-2. We have had a comedian show, a hypnotist show, and much more happen on campus. There are always flyers around campus, take a look at what is going on and go participate because there is always fun to be had at these events.

    Food and Dining

There is only one on campus food option at this time and that is Nature's Table. I only go to the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, at the other campuses there is only one Nature's Table. There are two on campus, one in the Student Center, and one in the UP building. The one in the Student Center has the Seminole State Grill mixed in and there are options like burgers, fries, mozzarella sticks, etc that are not offered at the UP building. The prices are not the lowest but not too bad. Very close to Seminole State Sanford Campus there is a plaza with Subway, Italian and Greek place, Chinese place, and Publix.

    Dorm Life

If you are looking for a dorm experience, that is not what Seminole State is for. There are no dorms, however, there are usually people looking for roommates for apartments and whatnot.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor here is not the most rigorous. However, a lot of students fail to do the work and thus complain about it. There are expectations that you will read the textbook chapters assigned to you and that you will do your assignments on time. Honestly, it all depends on the classes you are taking and the professors you take as well. Talk to other students who have taken the classes to really see what the rigor is like for the class and plan your schedule accordingly.

    Tips for prospective students

I do have a few tips for prospective students. First, take rate my professor with a grain of salt because there are students who will rate positively or negatively depending on the grades they got, not the quality of the professor, and it really does not take into account learning styles. When searching for prospective professors ask students who have already taken the class for the best results. Secondly, get involved on campus. It sounds cliche I know, however, there is a lot you learn about yourself and how you work with others and leads to a lot of personal development and leadership which is vital. Form study groups through the Sakai messaging system if you are struggling with a class because that can really help not only yourself, but others as well. Lastly, meet with your academic adviser and get an educational plan to plan out your schedule.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College is a great place for students who do not want to get into major debt in their first two years of college if you are getting an A.A or A.S degree then transferring. This college also has five Bachelor's Degrees and for those majoring in those five degrees, you will not get into major debt. Seminole State has a lot of opportunities for leadership skills which other colleges and Universities look for when you apply to transfer.

    Campus Safety

I take a lot of late classes and on the rare occasion that I see a security guard. They never even acknowledge my presence, let alone offer to escort me to my car.

    Greek Life

    None.

Great for these types of students

Good school if you have a very limited budget. Although the cost of books has become absurd. If you receive Federal loans, do NOT depend on an adviser or Financial Aid to let you know if you are close to exceeding your hours. They told me that I had money available for Summer Term, only to find out half way through the term that my loan was never funded because I had exceeded the number of hours allowed. If you plan to start at Seminole State and then transfer, get a complete list of the schools that they have Articulation Agreements with.

    Bang for the buck

It is a decent school for getting your general education requirements out of the way. However, before enrolling, make sure that those credits will transfer.

    What to do for fun

There is no on campus living. So unless you are involved in a club or activity, this is not a school that offers a large university experience.

    Food and Dining

There is a Nature's Table at each of the campus locations. However, they keep very odd hours and more often than not, are closed when I have gone to get something to eat. Your only other choice on campus are vending machines.

    Dorm Life

    None.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is entirely dependent upon the professor that you have. I took Chemistry with a fantastic professor that taught well above the level for the class. However, I became very ill and had to retake the class the following term for grade forgiveness. The professor that I got the second time was so easy, it was like taking a remedial class and I ended up swapping classes with a more challenging professor.

    In three sentences

I am in my last term at Seminole State College. It was my intention to do the concurrent nursing program but I have become increasingly disappointed with the quality of professors - it seems as though they get professors that teach at other schools and perhaps have a break in their schedule. I am also extremely disappointed in their lack of effort to make it a more veteran friendly school.

    Food and Dining

The Nature's table is decent- kinda expensive

    Academic Rigor

Depends on major- your grade reflects the effort you put in

    Tips for prospective students

My one recommendation is to be cautious with the financial aids department. Get names of the people you speak to at the counter, They don't always tell you the correct information. I usually email someone in the FA office when I have a question.

    In three sentences

Seminole State has a nice campus and faculty. The Professors are usually very helpful, and the smaller class sizes are great.

    Campus Safety

Security is always on the move trying to make sure that all the students and their belongings are safe. It's great to know that the school I go to has a safe environment.

    Greek Life

Absolutely love the school library, the book selection they have there is perfect and the spaciousness is very nice. Lots of computers for students to do their work, I've yet to see anyone race to a computer. Lastly the library has a quiet room for the students that need complete silence to do their work.

    Clubs and Activities

The school makes the clubs and activities fun but also lets the students have their say in what goes into the programs. It's good for the school to have these programs because it can give school more of a fun feel rather than just being strictly work.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student who is dedicated to school and success, I would suggest going to this community college because it gives so many options and is really just made for you to get where you want to go in life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing unusual that I personally have seen or heard of but there may be some that I don't know about.

    Bang for the buck

College is pricey no matter where a person goes, but this school specifically goes out if their way to try their best to make things work for every student. One thing that helps a good amount of students is the school's financial aid option.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do at the school including watching performances, going to the planetarium, courts to play sports, poetry readings, special guests, etc. but i personally like to just walk around the campus when it is nice out.

    Food and Dining

Although I wish they had more of a selection, the Nature's Table they have there is well run and is pretty good. There are also vending machines all throughout campus that take cash and card.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, but it's nice to be able to go home to family after long days of classes.

    Academic Rigor

Each teacher and class is different but they all make it challenging in their own ways. It's not too difficult to the point where no one can pass but it expands students minds enough that information is being retained and built.

    Tips for prospective students

Ask questions to people around you for help with directions or just make sure you are early your first day there so that you can find your class and be on time. It's also helpful to use ratemyprofessor.com to look up teachers and the way they teach so you find someone that is going to help you learn the most.

    In three sentences

This school has an extremely friendly staff and the people who work there are always willing to help. All classes that I have personally attended have been a good size, nothing too overwhelming. The campus is easy and beautiful!

    Academic Rigor

Well, it depends on the professor. I've always chosen the more challenging ones because of my thirst for knowledge.

    In three sentences

Smaller classes, which are fantastic. Amazing professors if you choose the right ones, but that's at any college. All of the campuses are really calm and it has a lot of great places to hide out and study. UCF Partenrship building is awesome, and you should definitely take advantage of the services they provide! There is a Nature's Table Cafe on every campus, which is absolutely fantastic. It's a really great school, especially for nursing!

    Academic Rigor

They recently have offered new degrees and bachelor programs. I think this is awesome especially because it is in the conveniece of my home town I don't have to go very far anymore to further my education.

    Tips for prospective students

Also if you don't have anyone to guide you through your way to joining, speak with a counselor they are educated and trained to help you find your way!

    Best for local students.

    What to do for fun

Go to the Student Center and play card games or video games, and hang out with friends.

    Food and Dining

All they have is over-priced Nature's Table. Some of the food is good, but it's all very expensive, especially on a college student's budget.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It's easier than high school in terms of workload (as there are less classes, and generally less homework other than reading). Just make sure that you do any assigned reading, and study for your tests and exams.

    Tips for prospective students

Be careful which Science classes you choose. Always check RateMyProfessors to make sure you're getting a teacher that matches with your academic style.

    In three sentences

Seminole State is a small college that easily became a second home to me. The professors have small classes, giving them the time to get to know their students personally. It has a beautiful, comfortable, and safe campus.

Clubs and activities, even if they are conducted they are not very well advertised. So you might have to dig out information yourself.

Great for these types of students

This college is for students who don't want to pay more than what is needed to finish your degree. This is an accredited college, so if you would like you could transfer to some university after getting your associate's degree.

    What to do for fun

There is the student center where people like to play pool and there's video games.

    Food and Dining

There is the Nature's Table. One in the student center and the other in the University Partnership building. i have never eaten food there but it seems a bit more pricey than something like Mcdonald's.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm living available.

    Academic Rigor

It is not very rigorous but then again I'm in my freshmen year taking basic classes.

    Tips for prospective students

This college is a wonderful alternative to receive an associate's degree at for a much lesser price than at a university. And after you receive your associate's you can transfer to any university of your choice and can graduate.

    In three sentences

Much less pricey and close to home for at least the time being to earn my associate's degree. I live with my parents and I find it much cheaper this way to save as much money as possible for my later college career. This way I'll have money saved up for college and personal expenditures and not be so broke.

    What to do for fun

For fun would be to join different clubs that the school offers so you are able to meet new people and do activities in the school and in the community. Also go to the events that the school offers.

I'm not aware of any safety issues occurring on the campus. However, there are several emergency phone locations throughout the parking lots; just in case. They're highly visible and spaced close enough that one can be reached quickly from any part of the parking lot. There is also on site security. These measures help me feel safe while on campus.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students who work full time. There are many options for classes; such as lectures and online courses. The homework isn't too overwhelming either.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a outdoor study area by a pond that is enjoyable for those students who like a bit of nature. There are turtles, fish, and several types of waterfowl that visit this small ecosystem. The college also has an on campus planetarium with plenty of shows on the weekends.

    Bang for the buck

I'm highly impressed with the library at the main campus. There are two floors, the top one being the quiet zone. This is a great place to study as the students generally follow that rule. It's also conveniently located next to the cafeteria for a quick break from work. The layout and buildings are also aesthetically pleasing. So far the staff I've encountered are wonderful. They're passionate about their field and the classes are educational, yet still enjoyable.

    What to do for fun

The planetarium on campus is a great bonus if you're interested in astronomy.

    Food and Dining

I've dined at the college once. The food was surprisingly good! They also have some pretty good coffee for those bright and early classes.

Since we are localized in central Florida there are many things you could do in your spare time. There is downtown Florida with great venues for all ages. As well as the amusement parks.

    Food and Dining

They have a great variety of food if you are every hungry. They offer many options, especially healthier choices for people who live that lifestyle. The prices are decent as well.

    Dorm Life

There area no dorms at SCC. Most of the students are either living at home, have a roommate, or they are adults. There is no dorm experience.

    Academic Rigor

I would not say this school is academically challenging. To me I would say it is more like thirteenth grade. Some courses will be more challenging than others, but with the small class sizes the opportunity to talk and understand a subject is more available to students.

    Tips for prospective students

Manage your time and look for scholarships. This is a small school, but any extra money is nice. Especially if you have to pay out of state tuition. Also, if you are a student and wanted a college experience, just wait it out and make the best of your time there at SCC.

    In three sentences

It is a great opportunity for perspective students no matter the circumstance. If you're new to the state, wanting to go back to school, or trying to save money. The teachers are amazing and the it is a great way to further educate yourself.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are interactive. Students have capabilities to start new clubs and host events. If you like to be the student involved in multiple clubs than the experience if fun. There is a complimentary gym on the main campus.

Great for these types of students

Students that attend this institution are typically only looking for a quick G.E.D., 2 year degree or certification or would like a more affordable way to earn first, two years of college than transfer to a 4year university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Bang for the buck

Main campus is the only location to have a student gym and two Natures Table and LOTS of vending machines. Landscaping and maintenance of water fountains, landscapes, classrooms and bathrooms are well kept and cleaned. I do NOT recommend selling books back to the bookstore, since you do not get more than 10% back.

    What to do for fun

The clubs are interactive. Students have capabilities to start new clubs and host events. If you like to be the student involved in multiple clubs than the experience if fun.

    Food and Dining

All locations of Seminole State College includes 1 Natures Table to eat. Food tastes good but it adds up to be on the expensive side, if you eat there all the time.

    Dorm Life

Doesn't apply unless you rent an apartment with your classmates!

    Academic Rigor

Depends on your professor and courses, mathematical and science majors will have much in depth and arduous material to study. Non math and science majors will have not so much arduous material to study. Regardless study to pass and out rank your classmates.

    Tips for prospective students

Besides study for classes (that you paid for), ALWAYS do your research and network. Always ask questions for classes from your professor, ask questions from former students about future professors, ask administration where you stand towards graduation and compare your answers with other students for study notes and future universities for what THEY require! Always ask!

    In three sentences

Large variety of courses to enroll and choose from, which is a thumbs up for students who are looking to transfer out to a four year university after graduation. Faculty (like any other school) can be helpful, sometimes if it's busy in administration experience may be unpleasant and since it is NOT a four year school the communication between SSC and other schools could be unclear and easily misunderstood. However, overall it is a decent school to get in and move on.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the professors at Seminole State are adjucts that come from the University of Central Florida. Since the majority of people that go to this college want to transfer to a state university after obtaining their AA, most of the professors here teach the same way they would at their home institutions. They know what it takes to be competitive in the Florida public university system and will guide you through. They know what's expected of you once you transfer so they make sure that you have the solid foundation needed to succeed as you go on at UCF or FSU or wherever you end up.

    Tips for prospective students

No matter why you're here, make sure you take every opportunity to can to learn, not only academically, but also learn about life from the people around you. Seminole State is a cross-section of what Central Florida has to offer. I've met so many people from different places, different income levels, different background, and have had the opportunity to learn about so many things in life from these people. This is just as valuable as the academic education you'll receive at Seminole State.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College of Florida offers a large spectrum of students from all backgrounds, all incomes, all kinds of goals and dreams. The professors are always willing to assist you in any way, whether it'd be help in class material, someone to talk to about your personal happenings, or writing you letters of recommendation, because they all have one goal in mind - getting you to a state university. Seminole State will always have something to offer your academic preferences.

The food at Seminole State College is too expensive to buy from daily and maintain a successful budget if a college student relying on the Federal Pell grant alone for money.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Seminole State College of Florida

    Academic Rigor

The professors at Seminole State College of Florida seem to want passing grades for students, but they do not demand them. They will give you assistance for you to successfully complete assignments, but I do not ever get a sense of personal relations. Everything they do seems like business decisions. Higher Education consists of many students for professors to teach, so the lack of immersion into the student body is understandable because them becoming sidetracked is possible due to spending too much time assisting an individual student. Doing so can be detrimental to the average learning rate of the entire class, but I think that sometimes few words can be more effective in teaching a lesson than many. If everyone began practicing such a communication technique, maybe professors would be more effective at boosting academic rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice for prospective students is a few tips. First, apply for financial aid such as grants and scholarships in order to attend college without going into debt. Doing so will be a great aid to you students. Secondly, once you go through the initial application process, talk to an academic advisor to plan your college education. You want to be know what classes you can take with your financial aid paying for the cost. Courses must be of a major in order to receive financial aid and that includes general studies category for the undecided majors. Finally, go to the on-campus tutors at the Sanford/Lake Mary campus offering free assistance for your courses. The aid may partly be the reason you someday understand a subject.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College of Florida is not bad, but could be better because most of my professors have been satisfactory while the facilities are limited yet not limiting. Most of my professors were professional. There could be more athletics.

There are emergency help stations and security guards throughout the campuses. I've never felt in danger while I was at school.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities are definitely more on a high school level. Be prepared for bake sales, slip and slides, and palm readers.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for: adults seeking a higher education high school graduates who aren't quite sure what degree or career they want to go for anyone who wants to go into a nursing program

    Bang for the buck

This varies for everybody but after scholarships and financial aid, I barely spent a dime on this place. If you are an independent student, you will be able to get a degree without spending much if you turn in your FASFA in a timely matter.

    What to do for fun

Honestly not much, this school is more of a get your degree and then get out kind of place.

    Food and Dining

The Nature's Table Cafe, is the only place to get food or coffee at Seminole State Campuses. The food is alright but for the price I'd recommend you bring your own lunch or go to a restaurant off campus.

    Academic Rigor

I found that for most classes you can scrape by with a C without too much effort. However, if you want an A you definitely have to go the extra mile.

    Tips for prospective students

Do research on teachers before you enroll in a class. I had to learn this the hard way a couple of times. If you're not careful you will end up with the professor from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Online teacher rating websites can be a good way to test the waters before you dive in. Make sure you enroll in your classes as soon as you can or you will be left with slim pickings. Do not miss class! The temptation can be great, but just don't do it. It is difficult to catch up after missing a class and can cost you a letter grade. If you feel like skipping just think This is a $500 class so I need to get an A. Trust me, it works.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College is what you make of it. Some classes can feel like a real waste of time, but if you are focused and look in the right places you will find teachers and classes that inspire and challenge you. I recommend this college to the high school graduate who isn't quite ready for a big university.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore the option of an associates degree to really be sure of what bachelors you will be going for!

    In three sentences

I love the small classroom settings within the campuses available, I am able to receive the best education because of this. The networking for the students is available to many different degree seekers, which help to empower the career opportunities. I also love that my professors have been in the real world and are able to share their experience, not just their education.

    Food and Dining

The Nature Cafe isn't too bad, it's the only food place we have here at the Oviedo campus. But the food is good, healthy, and it's not too expensive.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at the Oviedo campus

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the class and teacher you take, depends on how hard it's going to be. Most classes here are fairly easy, except if you get a tough teacher, they're going to make it a little more challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you choose and pay for you classes on time! If you fail to do so you'll get kicked out of those classes and more often than not you won't be able to pick them back up. Trust me, I know from experience.

Seminole State College, the Oviedo campus, is pretty ideal because it's close to home. The campus is beautiful and open. And it's hard to get lost considering there are only two buildings!

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe there. Lets say that you have to go to your car and you don't feel safe, you can call someone from the blue posts to walk you to your car, so kind of like a body guard if you must.

    Bang for the buck

A regular smoothie is 4 dollars. However, regular classes that relate to your degree and core classes cost around a few hundred dollars, elective, remedial classes and others are about 400 dollars and textbooks aren't that cheap either.

    What to do for fun

When I have spar time I dance, and listen to music and play games on my iPod and talk to my fiancee' mainly. I really haven't joined clubs just yet because I'm leaving in two years, so I don't see a point and I don't know he campus very much.

    Food and Dining

The food there is good and you have a variety but I would still prefer to stay home and eat but sometimes your stomach can't wait. There's a natures table there and other places but I prefer natures table because there are usually there.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, and they don't provide dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers expect YOU to pay attention, be there and do your work. You are independent and on your own for assignments. Teachers will remind of important dates and room numbers to go to.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip is English with Valerie Russel I believe is not the best teacher, she is very mean and strict. She will not let you leave if your child is sick and needs you. Other than that, try and be ahead if your taking online classes because I slaked a little and I got behind and was barely making deadlines.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College is a very nice school and very friendly. Not to mention the campus is a little easy to follow. All the teachers are helpful and there's always something to do here. I really love it here and will be sad when I move to Daytona after getting my Associates Degree.

    Campus Safety

The Campus Safety definitely deserves a five-star rating.

    Clubs and Activities

The Art Club is phenomenal. The members of this club are all so engaged in the Art, and are respectful of others. It is also just a great way to meet others and make friends with people who have similar interests and goals. And, it is just FUN.

Great for these types of students

Hard working students that are eager to learn, while also having some fun on the side.

    What to do for fun

Honestly, most of the clubs here at Seminole State College are fun. I completely recommend the Art Club, but only if that sounds like something YOU would find interesting. Also, there is the student center where there are a few pool tables set up, a video game area or two, and then there is a section near the cafe-area where you can sit with friends and talk while you eat.

    Food and Dining

The food is actually excellent, which I found very surprising.

    Tips for prospective students

At Seminole State College, a student needs to be attentive in class and take as many notes as possible. The syllabus for the class will be your new best friend, as I have found that most professors follow the syllabus exactly. Also, if you do not completely understand something being taught in class, then you need to ask questions, get help, and/or research it at home.

    In three sentences

Seminole State was not my first choice of colleges I wanted to attend before a major university, but it was definitely the right choice. The professors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and extremely great at what they do. I have attained so much knowledge, as well as learned so much about my self, since starting classes here at SSC in 2011.

    Campus Safety

It's a very safe feeling on campus, and the school has never had a history or account of violence or crime. The schools are monitored by the teachers as well as security officers from the first morning class to the last night session.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for just about any type of religion, ethnicity, musical instrument, degree, interest, and even pets.

Great for these types of students

Introverts, extroverts, band members, cheerleaders, single mothers... no matter who you are, this is a great school for you to attend. There is no single characteristic of the Seminole State student, other than 'driven'. You will have no problem meeting someone like you to click with, or on the other hand someone who isn't like you, if that's who you click with better.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Locations include Sanford, FL, Altamonte Springs, FL, Heathrow, FL, and Oviedo, FL. All locations are within 30 minutes of each other.

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State is extremely reasonably priced in their tuition, and for the education you receive it is definitely a worth while school. If you don't have to take out federal loans, you're only looking at around $9,000 to complete your Associate's Degree. The school also offers five Bachelor's degrees, for the ones that are having a hard time saying goodbye.

    What to do for fun

Seminole State College is always holding events and days for the students to get together. There are student retreats which make it a point to go on trips and host food nights, while there are also days you can visit Art Exhibits or sit and listen to a guest speaker (usually a recognized person in a certain industry or school.)

    Food and Dining

There is a Nature's Table Cafe at each of the four campuses. It offers a great array of healthy food choices including fruit, freshly made smoothies, panini's, sandwiches, desserts, and you can even grab a slice of pizza or chicken fingers. Some food is on the expensive side, such as $5 gourmet sandwiches and $6 salads, but for the most part is reasonably priced for a student budget.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The material used by professors in my experience has been designed for easy understanding and first-time school goers. Studying for an hour a day and paying attention in class is your key to passing the course with an 'A'. Talk with fellow students to find out which professor will appeal the most to your learning style. Do you like to study? Do you not like to study? Are there a lot of tests? What if I'm a bad test taker? These are all questions that you can ask yourself when discussing prospective professors with other students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors, they will be extremely beneficial to you in the future regarding acceptance to other universities, career paths, and scholarship opportunities. Meet with an academic adviser so you can graduate as soon as you need to, and so that you don't take any classes that do not pertain to your degree. Look into student campus life, like the retreats offered. There are fun trips and events to go to with people who could turn out to be your new best friend for the next two to four years. Don't just go to Seminole State, experience it. There's a lot more to this school than just the courses being offered, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you never want to attend a different school.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College takes pride in the fact that it views all students as equal. The teachers are helpful and go out of their way to see you pass, and the students will do the same. There is no drama, no violence and no crime, and would be a perfect college for anyone who has yet to enroll because they think it's just like high school.

The parking is in abundance at Sanford campus, the Altamonte campus isn't but make sure you get a parking decal or you could find a $10 ticket fine on your windshield. There are some areas more dark than others. Always be aware of your surroundings... There may be construction going on so always read the buildings for numbers and letters. When in doubt ask the security guards.

    What to do for fun

There are a number of clubs on campus. There are also events in the arts given for students and to the public. Check out the events calendar on Seminole State's web page.

    Food and Dining

A little expensive for some things. Each campus has its own Nature Table with different items served. I personally like the Altamonte campus.

    Academic Rigor

Grades are important to your success. Ask for help from your teachers or the tutoring center. The library is also a great source of information with the librarians also. Try not to drop to many classes it can hinder your advancement. Get help!!! Get help!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Make every effort to have outstanding grades. Ask what is needed in every department before you register. Ask what will hinder your success at this school. If you are an adult student returning to school sit down with financial aid, student advisement and be aware of the road blocks like explaining why you had to stop school when you were younger. Always have documentation.

    In three sentences

I like the school, the teachers are great, at least the ones I've had so far. I just struggle with having to complete academic or financial aid appeals almost every term. Sometimes life happens but the penalties for life you can't control is sometimes overwhelming.

The campus has improved greatly on it's safety from when I first started attending 3 years ago. The security guards and the blue emergency towers as well as the alerts sent out to e-mails or through texts are all part of the features provided for students. If there is a need you have there is someone to help you.

    What to do for fun

Join a club or group that is afflicted with your degree. With the four different campuses there are places around town that you or other students can always go out and enjoy.

    Dorm Life

Most of the classes I have taken have been either challenging enough or just real easy. As a straight A student I would say that the classes are not too difficult for others who don't have such an easy time but if you put forth the effort and time you are likely to get the good grade you want and need.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you look into what you want to do and really get a good sense and plan what to take for classes and make goals for yourself. This will help you for there are many students on their own track and not everyone can help you decide what's best for you.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College of FL is an average college providing for people of all ages. There are some great advantages and not so great ones with the programs provided. This school has grown and expanded to provide greater opportunities for students and will continue to get better.

The Oviedo campus plants a new tree every earth day and it's neat to see them all around campus.

    Bang for the buck

Small class sizes for reasonable tuition prices and teachers that seem to care about their students. They also have many students in the tutor lab that have been very helpful! Also, If you plan on transferring to a university that seem to have many resources to help students.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and organizations you can join- seems to be something for everyone and there's a planetarium at the Sanford/Lake Mary campus that holds events often.

    Food and Dining

The cafe at the Oviedo campus is ok,but most of it is pre-made foods. I would recommend packing a lunch. The cafe at the Altamonte Springs campus is great but gets pricey!

    Academic Rigor

This college is challenge and will test your knowledge. I feel most of the professors are there to help students succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest getting a planner to organize your classes, many of teachers have different schedules for test and assignments. I normally put all of my tests and assignments in my planner at the beginning of the semester.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College of Florida is a wonderful school. They offer small class sizes and have a faculty that really cares about their students. Many of my teachers not only knew my name but a little about who I am!

    Campus Safety

Seminole State employs a small contingent of unarmed security guards. They respond to campus emergencies and keep the parking lot safe.

    Greek Life

As a two-year school, there is no greek life, and I don't believe I am missing out either.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an ample supply of clubs and student organizations, from as meager as simple interests to chapters of international organizations.

Great for these types of students

Undecided students who are not ready to commit to loans or majors should strongly consider Seminole State or other two-year institutions. You pay a lot less money for the courses, affording you the time to experiment.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing really unusual. The Oviedo, FL campus does have a nature path around its perimeter.

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State tuition is approximately 60% of what standard public institutions charge for in-state students.

    What to do for fun

Seminole State supports many student led clubs and organizations and has a very active volunteering core. Weekly events are held to provide some entertainment to students between classes.

    Food and Dining

The on campus cafe, Nature's Table, is overpriced and sketchy. There are some safe selections, but if I can help it, I go elsewhere.

    Dorm Life

Seminole State does not house students.

    Academic Rigor

As a two-year institution focused on awarding students with associate's degrees, rigor is a subjective term. Some students find all kinds of coursework rigorous. My own experience would state that coursework here is like many other institutions of this type. It doesn't get rigorous until students begin to tackle their core bachelor classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Professors at Seminole State, and most two-year institutions, have the resources and time to focus on the quality of discussion and lectures rather than the quality of their research. Get to know your professors and take advantage of office hours. You will be surprised at how ready to help many professors are.

    In three sentences

Seminole State College of Florida, particularly in the Honors program, has a dedicated staff to help students success and achieve more. A varied array of interdisciplinary honors courses are available to the independent thinking student. Administration staff are friendly and ready to assist students with many concerns.

    Food and Dining

There are a few options on campus, everything they serve is good. There are also sevaral resteraunts/fast food places near by.

Great for these types of students

ssc is great for first-time in college students, those who have part- or full-time jobs, and those with kids. the varying class times allow for your school schedule to adapt to your life schedule...much easier than the other way around.

    Bang for the buck

you save so much money taking prerequisite and general classes at smaller schools than at expensive universities, and i really appreciate this because i want to take full advantage of the scholarship and grant money i have, without which i would not be able to attend school at all.

    What to do for fun

there are over 50 clubs that anyone is able to join at ssc. the sanford/lake mary campus has a lot of grassy areas, perfect for napping in the florida sunshine, throwing a frisbee around, or getting clcose to nature while you study for that biology test tomorrow. ;-)

    Food and Dining

nature's table is delicious, though a little over priced. we need a starbucks on campus; that would be amazing. :-)

    Dorm Life

well, seeing as there are no dorms here...i'm pretty sure everyone likes their own bedrooms, and i will give this area 5 stars :-)

    Academic Rigor

i feel pretty adequately challenged in the classes i'm taking right now. i take four classes and work an average of 25 hours a week, and i am able to get all my homework and studying done in a reasonable amount of time. prioritizing and motivation are key factors in doing so, however. so! don't procrastinate. :-)

    Tips for prospective students

be sure you know all the your dates for deadlines and such! getting your information and class choices in on (or better yet) ahead of time, will ensure that you will be able to ask questions when you need to, get to talk with a counselor a couple times if you need to like i did, and sign up for the exact class you want. also, check out the available professors and how they stack up to be sure you get the teacher that you'll learn best from.

ssc is a great institution for it's value alone. attending this school over a more expensive university allows me to take the prerequisites i need to further my education. the vast majority of professors i have had, especially the ones whose classes are right in line with the field i intend to work in, have been amazing, far exceeding my expectations.

Anyone! Traditional and non-traditional students alike are welcome and encouraged at Seminole State!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved!! My time at Seminole State was incredible and life changing because of my decision to get involved with Student Activities such as the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and other clubs and organizations. I had the opportunity to make very close relationships with the Student Life faculty, which has opened up several doors for me. Leadership Retreats are free to students and the best possible way to spend a weekend. I learned and changed so much from being involved, and I can't recommend the Leadership Institute enough! Stop by the Student Life office at C-102 for an amazing opportunity. Also, if you have a 3.2 GPA, join the Honors Institute! The classes and professors are amazing, and the other honors students became family. You won't regret it!

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State is cheap compared to other Florida Colleges, and it is definitely worth more than what I paid for it. The professors are over qualified, many of the ones I was privileged with having doctorate degrees, and they are passionate about teaching. The campus is actually quite beautiful and is under million dollar renovations. The new library can be described as luxurious. There are computer labs available at several different sites. The class sizes are small, in my experience ranging from 13-32. If you seek it out, you get personalized attention from administration, counselors, financial aid counselors, and professors. There is tutoring included in your tuition. The school does its best to provide students who need it with working and employment opportunities. I couldn't be happier with how I spent my first two years of higher education.

    Did enjoy being here

The five semesters I spent at Seminole State have been some of the best in my life. This is mostly due to the amazing faculty and staff. From highly qualified professors, to caring administration, to clean bathrooms, I was never disappointed with Seminole State. There is always so much to do, so many activities to be involved in, that I was never bored. It is obvious how much Seminole State cares about it's students.

    Did learn a lot

I absolutely learned a lot at Seminole State College! Coming into the school I was not expecting to be blown away by the education, but I definitely was. The professors are nothing short of remarkable. They are intelligent and clearly knowledgeable in their fields. Even more importantly they are passionate about sharing that knowledge, which makes learning all the more fun. I was hardly ever disappointed with a class, and I always felt like I was learning. The professors at Seminole aren't just about getting you through with a passing grade, they actually want you to learn and to engage with the material. Their effort clearly shows in how much I was able to take from my classes.

Great for these types of students

First time in college, students who work, students with kids

    Tips for prospective students

Have goals, meet with an academic advisor and set up an educational plan...and FOLLOW IT! (It helps SO much when choosing classes)

    Bang for the buck

For what I am paying to attend class here, I am getting a lot of my college experience and I think it's great.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers and staff are extremely helpful when questions arise. Teachers are very understanding when you need to miss class.

    Am learning a lot

All of the teacher's I have had in the past two semesters have been really good. At first I felt like I was back in high school, but it was just a mental thing because that's what everyone said the school was like. Once I started attending classes I knew it was so much different than high school.

Great for these types of students

First time in college students, full-time working students, foreign students, nursing majors (one highest regarded nursing programs in the state) interior design majors (B.A. offered and a well-known program), returning students, and those without proficient English language skills (English as a Second Language or ESOL classes and English for Academic Purpose(s) or EAP classes are available and highly regarded). Also, the college now offers five Bachelor degrees (they are in Business Information Management, Interior Design, Information Systems Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, and Construction). The college is also good for anyone who is undecided about their major or just looking for an A.A. or A.S. to transfer into a 4-year college.

    Tips for prospective students

Seminole State College of Florida's welcoming attitudes toward all students lessens the amount of worry for students who are nervous about college, but if you are planning to attend the school I would advise setting up an early orientation session, preferably two months ahead of your starting semester so that you can get familiar with the various aspects of the college and so that you can get into the classes that you want since the college is one of the fastest growing in the state and its not good to try to register at the last minute. Other than signing up early, there is not much to advise prospective students about, just sign up early and enjoy the experience.

    Bang for the buck

I know a lot about the rates of colleges in the state of Florida, and Seminole State College is one of the cheapest. Cheap does not always equate to good education though, but in Seminole State College of Florida's case the college is both cheap ($96.80 per credit hour) and offers deeply fulfilling education in a wide variety of subjects with well versed professors in all fields. The college is especially good for foreign students who need an affordable yet worthwhile education and is also good for full-time employees as they offer many online classes at no extra charge. The college's nursing program is also highly regarded throughout the state of Florida and is definitely a worthwhile plan of study. The only possible problem centers around out-of-state students who have to reside in the state for at least a year before they can pay the normal tuition rates. Until they can prove they have lived in Florida for at least a year, they must pay 3 times the price (about $300 per credit hour).

    Am enjoying being here

The college experience here has been highly enjoyable. The college has a low key aspect to it that makes it very friendly and welcoming to new students, and returning students alike. The campus staff are very friendly as well, and along with the teachers all of the workers at the school make the college transition seem less of a worry some event, and more of a gateway to discovery event, which allows students to fit in comfortable with the college and enjoy the experience.

    Am learning a lot

The college offers a wide breadth of study opportunities and there is truly something for everyone. The professors at the school have taught me both the power of learning, and how to like learning. The college has inspired me to spread my wings in search of new knowledge in various fields outside of the classroom, while at the same time teaching me to appreciate our world from the knowledge that I have learned inside the classroom. Instilling a love of knowledge is something this school does very well, and it is something that takes a lot of care and effort to provide.
