there are many clubs but depending on the club a student is in the meetings can very from once a week to once a month and sometimes aren't too consistent.

Great for these types of students

Sierra College is an amazing school for anyone willing to save money and finish there general education or transfer plan in the Northern California area.

    Bang for the buck

Apply for Financial Aid. A huge majority of students go there with a BOG Waiver that covers there tuition cost, and the classes there are pretty in expensive in them selves. Also students who buy and sell books through eBay tent to save more them buying them through the book store.

    Food and Dining

The food is a little pricey but has many options like Mexican, American and Italian Food with Vegetarian and Vegan options! Sierra College also provides a book store that contains a variety of snacks and a cafe that serves Starbucks. If none of that is appealing to a student, just down the street are many fast food restaurants.

Every class is extremely focused on that class's study, whether students are just taking the class for general education purposes or actually majoring in that study. Students should plan for many study hours when taking any class at Sierra College, however homework amounts can very depending on the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective Students should make time for studying, and keep in mind that participation is very important. Make sure to get a parking pass and have all their reading materials ready. Some teachers will have 1st chapters online for students who get there books later, but this isn't said for all teachers.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is very hands on if the students need any help. They want their students to be successful as well as work to prepare them for the work force, where ever the students is planning on going. Also, Sierra College is an amazing school to transfer from, with hundreds of transfer materials and support to make sure students have everything they need before they change colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

Figure out your goal and stick to it because some counselors not all don't really help you decide your classes or what to pursue your career in.

    In three sentences

Great School, just needs the counselors to care about what students want to do with their lives. Needs to notify students that the supposed 2 year degree will take 3 years because of the amount of students who attend and have priority registration which allows them first pick of the classes, which causes those who are new not to be able to get into the classes needed.

    Campus Safety

There are security guards on call on the campus at all times. Also, there is a system you can sign up for that will send text messages if there is a safety concern. The staff is very good about keeping students up to date where their safety is concerned.

    Clubs and Activities

As I mentioned before, there are endless clubs and activities. You are guaranteed to find something that interests you.

Great for these types of students

Sierra is great for students trying to figure out what direction they want their college career to go in. It give you two or three extra years out of High School to explore new subjects and form a solid path to achieving your goals.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is a great area to study. Honestly, the food is a little expensive so I generally do not take advantage of what is offered. But there is a variety of food options ranging from tacos, sandwiches, and salads.

    Academic Rigor

This may not be a university, but that academics are not lacking. The teachers treat you like you are in college and expect college level work. The benefit of it being a community college is that the teachers are really willing to spend time with you shaping the skills that you will need for the rest of your education. They are willing to help you understand study skills, testing strategies, how to read a textbook, and so on. The classes are challenging, but the teachers are there for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Take it seriously! Unfortunately, some students don't take their time here seriously and live regret it down the road. The grades you receive here are going to stick with you for the rest of your college career. Don't look down on your time here because it is community college. Instead, take it to explore different subjects while studying hard and truly discover what your passion is.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a great place to start your college education. The teachers are wonderful, student life is great, and there are many on-campus activities so it's really hard to be bored! Overall, it is a wonderful school that wants to help set you on a track to transfer with confidence.

    Campus Safety

Pretty quiet neighborhoods surrounding the campus and main streets are always patrolled. There is campus security, but it doesn't seem like they see much action.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and it's easy to start your own, and a good list of cheep activities like art shows and performances.

Great for these types of students

For those with limited funds and transportation. It's an extension of high school but it's wholesome. Those who desire a small town feel but want easy access to everything else.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of new shopping options less than a mile down the road including a cinema, restaurants, and a Walmart. (If think that's fun...) You're close enough to the mountains (30 min) to make a powder trip for the day, and about 3 hours from Santa Cruz. Great weekend trips all over.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria always has fresh choices but it's not a big selection. I always brought my own food. I'm cheep like that. :)

    Dorm Life

I've never lived on campus, but I know there is very little selection. There are apartments nearby that are best.

    Academic Rigor

Usually, the students are serious about their education but you always get some who are there for the social aspect. There are also those teachers who sign up to teach physical education courses who are looking for money but have little to no experience in the subject. But those ones aren't hard to avoid if you do your research.

    Tips for prospective students

Use the Rate My Professor website to see if the professors of your major choice teach to your style of learning, and have a plan for registration beforehand.

    In three sentences

With all of their on-campus events, it's easy to get involved and stay informed. There is easy access to stores, churches, a mall, and everything else you would need. It's a great campus and if you do your homework, you can get great teachers.

    Campus Safety

As long as I've been to Sierra College, I haven't had any troubles with my safety. There are now emergency calls boxes placed around campus, that if you ever need help you can go there and call for help. They also have campus security around that you can provide help; especially during the night, if you have night classes.

Great for these types of students

    All types of students.

    Bang for the buck

The pricing of Sierra is not bad, because the classes are well worth the amount of money you'll be spending on it. Besides its a great junior college that helps you get your AA or a transfer degree as soon as you can. I for one enjoy the lesser amount of money I spent to finish up my GED for a 4 year college.

    What to do for fun

There are a bunch of fun clubs that one can join. We also have a bunch of different events occur during Fall and Spring Semester and have a week devoted to social causes and entertainment.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is good! I love their $3 soup, it may be expensive but it changes everyday and it's delicious! I think that its well worth the $3. We also have a Starbucks, so if you need a coffee or a frap fix you can get it there before or after classes.

    Dorm Life

I don't know what dorm life is like, since I live close enough to the campus. But from what I've seen it's not bad.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at Sierra is pretty decent, it just depends on what professor you get. Depending on the professor you can either be reading the textbook a lot, have a bunch of outside assignments, or there will be a half and half on reading textbook and homework. I found that it depends on the professor and what they have to fulfill in accordance with California educational laws.

    Tips for prospective students

Here are some tips for prospective students: Pay attention in class. Totally a given, but if you don't pay attention in classes, you'll have a hard time remembering what happened the last class time. Always research which professor will best suit you, on ratemyprofessor.com; its a total life saver. Make a to-do list, because its gets difficult to keep assignments straight when you really get into the semester. Also get a planner, it'll help organize all the assignments that are due and help you keep on top of all the things occurring in your classes.

    In three sentences

Sierra College has some amazing professors that care about your future. The classes are affordable. Sierra College has a beautiful campus.

    Academic Rigor

I have been filling all of my time in attempt to fully and wholly learn all there is to know in each class. Each class requires a different work-load and although some may be more difficult than others, its not something a dedicated student cant handle.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to apply early as classes will fill up quick. Definitely research your possible professors, there is a handful of fantastic teachers there that will make learning incredibly easy for you.

    What to do for fun

Not much, most of the on campus activities are pretty liberal, so if you are more conservative you don't have much to do.

    Food and Dining

Extremely high prices for food and not much selection to choose from.

    Dorm Life

I haven't personally stayed in the dorms, but I am grateful I didn't. Not a lot of on campus activities and dinning. Cafeteria even closes very early. I would hate to live on a campus that is so boring.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the classes, the math and science department is very rigorous. Some of the other departments are not such as fashion or other electives.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to research and ask friends or family about professors, some professors seem like they don't enjoy their job, while other professors it is their passion. The professor can make or break your class experience.

    In three sentences

Sierra College was a beautiful school, unfortunately not very welcoming or open to many beliefs. Majority of the professors were very biased and you may leave your classes feeling like you payed for their opinions. Sierra College does have a very rigorous math and science department.

    What to do for fun

For fun, I go to Starbucks to talk to people or sit by a tree in the grass. There is a mall no too fat from campus that is good to go to for those long breaks.

    Food and Dining

I personally do not like the good on campus but I do go to the Starbucks right across the street quite often.

    Dorm Life

I have heard from many people that the dorm life is not so hot since most people attending Sierra college live off campus.

    Academic Rigor

So far, I have not felt any stress with the classes that I have taken but that may change next year when I am in higher level classes hopefully.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I have would be to try to make friends in your classes and form study groups because it really does help. You'll be lucky if you meet people who want to be your friend but it's always nice to talk to people in class so don't be shy!

    In three sentences

Sierra college has good academics with the right teacher. It's actually pretty nice for a mainly commuter community college. I do feel like the majority of the people attending are not there to make friends, they just want to get in and get out.

    Clubs and Activities

Sierra College Physics & Engineering Club has a great reputation in Rube Goldberg Machine contests at UC Davis and UC Berkeley. The engineering department takes a field trip every semester to engineering projects and firms.

Great for these types of students

Great for you if you are a student in a technical field that really wants to make something of themself. Not so sure that other divisions stand out as much as math and sciences.

    Bang for the buck

For engineering, I got a university level lower-division education for a fraction of the cost plus the engineering department pushes you to learn more than just what is in the basic curriculum.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do around Rollin, Roseville, Folsom lake, auburn. Roseville has a huge mall.

    Food and Dining

Great food but can be a little pricey.

    Academic Rigor

Math and sciences here are Very difficult, but you learn a lot more a develop more than at other community colleges and some universities.

    Tips for prospective students

It is an awesome school, but if you're going to be taking rigorous math and science courses you will find that you are held to much higher standards than other local community colleges. I wouldn't trade my experience here for anywhere else.

    In three sentences

The campus is nice and well located. It has a top-notch math and sciences division. They do expect highly of their science and engineering students.

Campus Security routinely is seen around campus and there are never any major incidents that occur on campus. It is a very safe community college in a relatively quiet town.

Great for these types of students

Recent high school graduates. Students returning to school after a long period of absence or for a career change or to acquire additional career skills.

    Bang for the buck

In Northern California, you can not beat the price that you will pay for your lower-division education at Sierra College anywhere.

    Food and Dining

School cafeteria is reasonably priced and there are other coffee shops, vending areas on campus available to students as well.

    Dorm Life

Housing options are available, but this is not a major selling point of the college, Most students live at home or elsewhere off of campus.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are on par with what is to be expected from a community college. They require effort and thought, but will not unnecessarily burden students with a huge workload that is unmanageable.

    Tips for prospective students

Sierra College classes fill up quickly, and there are always new students enrolling so register for classes early and quickly before they fill up.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a great starting place to transfer to just about any 4-year school. It is a good fit for those right out of high school looking for a less expensive alternative to a traditional university and for those returning to school to finish degrees or change careers. Since Sierra in Rocklin is in the middle of Tahoe and Sacramento (more on the Sacramento side), students can take advantage of old downtown Roseville bars or even downtown Sacramento. And Tahoe is only about an hour and half drive so all the skiers and snowboarders its a perfect place.

    Food and Dining

I always take advantage of the lunch specials. Every day they have a different gourmet meal that is tasty and most of all, healthy.

    Dorm Life

Very safe, I have had night classes and never felt unsafe for a second. Lot of lit trails and paths, the security is outstanding.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do on-campus or off. The library is a great place to absorb materials, there's clubs, the student senate, etc. Off- campus, there's the bumper cars, trampoline place, and for the over-21, Thunder Valley Casino.

    Food and Dining

Large cafeteria, a few options. Overpriced in my opinion, but that seems to be the consensus for college cafeteria's.

    Academic Rigor

Some professors are challenging, other are great. It's very diverse, be sure you know which classes you need and apply yourself. No one fails if they go to class with the mindset ready to learn and absorb.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

It's a great place for freshman or transfer students from other colleges. Lots of variety and accommodation for special needs. Many options are done online which is one thing I would change, you aren't able to do some registration out of the physical Sierra administration office.

    What to do for fun

I'm not joking when I say there are at least 60 student clubs on campus. There are so many, it's nuts. Whatever hobby or interest you have, I'm sure there's a club that shares your passion. They have special events during the semesters too like, Love Your Body Week, Pride Days, Earth Days, Cultural Days, etc. and that makes students get involved and learn more about others and themselves. It's fun. Outside of school, well, there's Roseville and Sacramento. You know, city stuff. Also, there is Lake Tahoe not too far away. Go for a swim or canoeing with some friends for a weekend. Camping up there is awesome.

    Food and Dining

They have a good sized cafeteria. It seems to not be overly croweded. They have lots of food selections, but I don't eat there often because it's mainly food that I don't tend to eat. The cafeteria is a good socializing area though.

    Academic Rigor

Asking if Sierra College is academically rigorous is a subjective question. It all depends on the student and the classes one takes. For me, the physical and life sciences were more challenging than English or humanities, but that's just me. If you study hard and keep focused, you should be fine in your studies.

    Tips for prospective students

A couple of tips for prospective students would be to make sure you plan out your semesters well. To do that, meet with an academic counselor at least every semester to ensure you transfer at the expected time you choose. Classes can fill up fast, but it doesn't hurt to go in to a class and try to add; even if you don't get in to a class you wanted, at least you'll have tried.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a great school for completing general education requirements, as well as obtaining good Associates degrees. It is very well kept and clean and most of the professors and students seem to like the campus. I enjoy my time there because it's not too big, but not too small either.

Great for these types of students

Any student would appreciate and like the atmosphere of the surroundings at sierra college and its made for any other due to variety of all student from different but common areas and ethnicity as well.

Also the libraries are full with computers and tutors who are so helpful. Everyone on this campus is so positive and their is always a great vibe when i get on campus everyday.Worth the money to go here and I recommend this school to anyone who wants to have a great college experience as well as getting a great education by awesome professors.

    What to do for fun

Play a sport at the school it makes school less stressful and students would have something to look forward to after a long hard day of stressful school work and classes

    Food and Dining

Im not a picking person, but all the food is way over priced for the quality of food the students recieve

    Dorm Life

It could be better for the nice area the school is located in the dorm rooms aren't that good and it need to put more money into the building and that would help recruit more students and have current students complain less and be more satisfied.

    Academic Rigor

I give the academics here a 9 out of 10. The counselors at sierra college set their students up for success. They absolutely care about there jobs and helping the students. Everything is set out in front of you all organized and is explained to understand the steps it take to achieve future goals.

    What to do for fun

The Rocklin campus is close to the city of Sacramento and a day trip from San Francisco. Both campuses are on the steps of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains.

    Food and Dining

There are many good taquerias in the Rocklin area. There is also sushi, Thai food, Mongolian BBQ, and much more. The Nevada County campus has an even greater variety of food in its surroundings.

    Dorm Life

There are dorms, but they are really best suited for those looking for affordable housing. They appear to be of good quality. The campus is located in the center of suburban Rocklin, which is not a college town. Simply put, Sierra College is a community college, not a university, so it is a practical resource- good classes for an affordable price (not a grand college experience).

    Academic Rigor

Overall, satisfyingly rigorous, particularly for the hard sciences and mathematics. General education courses are generally rigorous and satisfying, but there are a couple bad ducks like political science and some of the English courses (depending on which campus it is at).

    Tips for prospective students

The online services for this school can be convoluted and confusing. Always double check on actions conducted online. Online classes can be very good, but it depends on how organized the instructor is.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a very good school if you are studying mathematics and the hard sciences. Many of the mathematics and science teachers are very competent and rigorous. However, the quality of classes for art, English, and history is hit and miss; some of the teachers are very illuminating and enthusiastic, while others are burnt out or just plain bad.

    Campus Safety

Excellent safety precautions taken by the school. Except for the parking tickets (buy your permits online!) as they are vicious about this. Often times the local police officers are stationed on campus to help monitor things.

    Greek Life

    Unsure.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs on campus, but it is somewhat confusing on how to join them.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who: are low on money, but need an education; unsure of major/career choice; want to get ahead in high-school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing too unusual about the school, except for the parking (it isn't fun). Park in the lot next to Building V, or get there super early in the morning.

    Bang for the buck

If you qualify for financial aid, you will more than likely be paid to attend this school. On average for 13~16 credits it cost me around $300~$500 in tuition, and another $500 for books (varies based on classes). Like I have said previously, most of the professors are top-notch, and for the money, the education is unbeatable.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of clubs on campus, and they are always recruiting. Make sure you get your $10 activity sticker when you buy your permit, as this lets you get into all the school sports games for free, or a lower price.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is decent. A bit overpriced for broke college students, but it is not absurdly priced. They have a large seating area, outdoor seating, a deli, prepackaged foods and beverages, and a coffee shop. They also have a small little snack wagon that is a quick and easy way to get snacks. There are a lot of clubs hosting 'free lunch' opportunities for students, so make sure to pay attention to those. If you are vegetarian, there are not many selections for food. Peanut butter and jelly is as good as it gets for vegetarians unfortunately.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in the dorms, but from what I have heard from others who have, it was just fine. Nothing extravagant, but suitable.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the teachers are teaching, or have taught at the university level. They are quality teachers who are bound and determined to offer students a quality education. Do not assume that it will be easier in all cases, as I found this not to be the case. There are teachers who will teach well, and expect a lot from their students.

    Tips for prospective students

-Buy a parking permit online! Save money, headache, and do not waste anything on the daily parking permits. -Schedule a meeting with a counselor as early as possible! It is never to soon to seek advice from a counselor. -Plan ahead when registering for courses! Make sure you know what classes, where, and when you need to take them before you can even register. Have the class codes written down so you can register for the courses you need when you're registration time comes up! -Plan for plenty of time for parking! 20 minutes early is generally NOT EARLY ENOUGH! Allow for 30 minutes at a minimum (1 hour is probably the safest).

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a fantastic school for students in high school looking to get ahead early, for those who are unsure of their major choice, or for those who want a quality, but inexpensive opportunity to get the classes they need to transfer to a four year institution. Many of the courses are transferable to a four year college/university, and if you're in California, it's perfect.

Great for these types of students

Sierra College is great for students who are academically focused, and will take their education into their own hands. Its perfect for students who would like to get involved, but dont need a large social scene on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As far as I am aware, no unusual traditions exist.

    Bang for the buck

For low income students such as myself, the BOG Fee waiver covered the cost of classes. Then I received federal financial aid, enough to cover the cost of books, parking pass, and ASSC sticker. I cannot speak for others above my income range, but for me Sierra College offers a lot of bang for the buck.

    What to do for fun

Sierra College has multiple campus clubs, as well as sporting events and events. Most of them cost money, about $5-$10. The surrounding area's of Rocklin and Roseville have lots of exciting restaurants to try, as well as a Water Park.

    Food and Dining

The Wolverine Cafe offers delicious food, but unfortunately it is on the more expensive side. A burger is $3.75, and fries and a drink are sold separately. You can purchase cheaper food such as Ramen noodles from the bookstore.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms, but I have visited them once. The rooms were small, but there was a very appealing rec room.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at Sierra College differs greatly depending on the teacher. I would describe the average course load as manageable, I can not stress enough how important the use of www.ratemyprofessor.com is.

    Tips for prospective students

Meet with a councilor and make an academic plan right away, that way you do not waste time and money. Use www.ratemyprofessor.com when picking out classes because all professors are so different, and their teaching styles can make a huge difference. Finally purchase a parking pass before the semester starts, its expensive not to.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is an excellent choice in a Community College, the Rocklin Campus in particular feels like a small 4-Year University. The Campus is beautiful, and its big enough to feel expansive yet small enough that you will not become lost. Sierra College is also the number one feeder into Sacramento State, if that particular college appeals to prospective students.

Being a new student is never a good then when it comes to picking out classes when current students are able to do so a month before. They take all the cool and nice teachers. Plan to pick the classes you want the day before you are allowed to registrar because if you do it before hand, most likely you wouldn't be able to get take the teacher or the class if all of them are full.

Their are a diverse range of clubs at Sierra College that include biking, environment, and religious. These clubs have good leadership, and sometimes host parties and other activities.

Great for these types of students

This college is good for students who like working in study groups, do some self teaching, and are motivated.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't know of any traditions that go on in Sierra College.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at this college is about $46/unit, but since the teaching a programs at this college a excellent I am willing to pay the high cost in tuition.

    What to do for fun

There are several Sierra College Student Clubs that are really fun to attend. These clubs have a lot of activities that include parties, games, festivals, etc.

    Food and Dining

I personally did not like the food in either of the cafeterias in the college. I found that the workers did not put out fresh food, and would let things like bagels go stale.

    Dorm Life

I do not know what dorm life is like, because I never stayed in a dorm. I lived at home and went to college.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers go at a comfortable pace in their coursework. It can get a little tense during finals week, but then that is normal for any college.

    Tips for prospective students

The teachers here at Sierra College have students work very hard. So I would recommend that students who go to this college study hard, listen closely during the lectures, and complete all the necessary homework. If students do this, I will guarantee that they will earn an A in their class.

    In three sentences

Sierra College's teachers are dedicated to helping their students succeed. I have taken three math courses so far, and I found that the teachers were friendly, responded quickly to student questions, and went well out of their way to help the students pass their courses. I would certainly give an A to Sierra College and would recommend that if any student is looking for a good community college to attend that Sierra College be their number one choice.

    Bang for the buck

Per unit, the courses that are offered at Sierra College are roughly 75 percent cheaper than courses offered at most four-year institutions in California. For those who are amendable to transferring at a Junior level standing, can save a lot of money by undertaking general education courses at the community college level. Another way to save on educational costs is to room at home while attending Sierra College or another community college. Oftentimes there are multiple two-year institutions near where you live, so finding courses that pertain to your area of study is oftentimes very easy.

    What to do for fun

There are endless activities to fulfill any student's interests while attending Sierra College. In the summer, the American River is a great place for rafting, tubing, and swimming, as well as hiking and bicycle riding. In the winter, there are close by activities such as skiing and snowboarding, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, backcountry hiking, and snowmobiling. Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Sierra College is centrally located to some of the most beautiful outdoor activities in all of Northern California!

    Food and Dining

There is no on-site cafeteria available at Sierra College.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-site housing available at Sierra College.

    Academic Rigor

Sierra College has direct transfer agreements with neighboring four-year institutions which makes it very easy to plan for your future. I have been able to meet with a counselor each semester to ensure I am on the right track to success which is a great comfort when you are planning your education on your own. The online MySierra program allows students to track their financial aid, order books, enroll in classes, and contact instructors, as well as many other helpful tools that can aid you on your academic path. The instruction offered at Sierra College is top-notch, and I have learned so much from the classes I have enrolled in. I highly recommend taking as many community college classes as you can before attending a four-year institution, because the quality of education you will receive is comparable and the cost is significantly less.

    Tips for prospective students

In light of the tough economical times, the thought of higher educational costs can be daunting to many. If starting at a four year institution is out of the question, I would recommend looking at community colleges to undertake general education courses. The cost per college credit is roughly 25% of most major institutions, which can save you a lot of money until yu are ready to transfer for your degree.

    In three sentences

Sierra College offers a wide array of classes for anyone interesting in furthering their education. As a transfer student, I have been very pleased with the quality of instruction and the variety of interesting classes available at my disposal. I would recommend Sierra College to anyone interested in an affordable approach to attaining a degree.

    Bang for the buck

Sierra College professors are highly talented and most have worked for larger colleges or universities in the past. The professors are also looking out for your best interest so most use older edition books so the cost is minimal.

    What to do for fun

The campus holds many activities and has sports events that you can go to too. Due to it being a junior college, it doesn't have as wide a selection as a state college or university but if you make the most out of what is available, it really is enjoyable.

    Food and Dining

The food available is the same as what is offered at most junior college campuses. A cafeteria-type market with pizza, salads, sandwices, etc. and an additional cafe with smoothies and specialty drinks.

    Dorm Life

I believe there are a few dorms on campus but not many. Parking is okay and the campus is near a variety of shops and restaurants.

    Campus Safety

I've not seen anything major here happen yet, but when there is skepticism it's dealt with swiftly. The security is pretty good on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Sierra has any club you can possibly think of and the sports teams are pretty good as well. Not to mention, cardio and yoga classes are offered, among others that I may simply be unaware of. There are spirit weeks, pride days, and festivals where students come together to appreciate art, their bodies, and diversity.

Great for these types of students

Sierra offers Distance Learning and hybrid online/on-campus classes, which are fantastic for parents, multi-job workers, or those of us that simply don't feel like getting out of our pjs for classes (which is understandable with how hard it can be to find a parking spot sometimes). There is a huge selection of classes to choose from!

    Bang for the buck

All-in-all, this is an OK school. The units are relatively cheap, the books are outrageous, and beware what professors teach what classes. If you've learned something from your classes, it's a very cheap school. But there's a couple that you end up with where you think, I just wasted how much for this?!

    What to do for fun

There are so many clubs on campus it's insane. And if there's one you simply cannot find, there is a lot of support to create your own. The campus is also beautiful and includes a lot of forest area that has trails along it. There are many activities in the surrounding communities as well that you can look up in the directory, or even more classes you can choose from the Kaleidoscope booklet.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is fantastic, but a lot of it is pricy (especially the health foods). Yet, the portions are HUGE on the more cheap items, such as what the Hispanic foods area sells.

    Dorm Life

From what I understand, the dorm life is mediocre. The dorms are quite overpriced (but what college isn't?) and offer nothing too special or different from a one bedroom apartment. However, I find it fantastic that a community college actually offers you the choice to live on campus and it's located in a fantastic upper-middle class area.

    Academic Rigor

The classes aren't as challenging as expected (which can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for) and unfortunately, I've had questionable professors. However, I've had a couple that were incredibly knowledgeable of the subjects they taught and they truly pushed you to think outside the norm.

    Tips for prospective students

ALWAYS use ratemyprofessor.com when signing up for classes, and if you can, try to take at least one class from Johnnie Terry--believe me, you won't regret it and you WILL NOT forget him. Also, utilize the programs they do offer on campus, such as TRIO and EOPS.

    In three sentences

Sierra has a beautiful campus and well rounded classes to choose from, but be sure to look over reviews of the professor you choose! This school has the best professors I've ever met, while also harboring the worst!

While many campuses have student hang out centers the one at sierra gets very little use because of the many different places across the campus that are student friendly. The many picnic tables under trees outside are always filled, as well as grass hills and gardens that are open for studying at all times.

    Bang for the buck

Sierra has a great study abroad program every spring that goes over seas to different countries. In the past they have gone to places such as Paris France, and Florence Italy. It is said to be one of the cheapest study abroad programs around.

    What to do for fun

The town of Roseville is just 15 minutes away and has several movie theaters, a laser tag place, the Roseville galleria mall. Sunsplash minigolfing and arcade, as well as Fountains shopping center across from the mall.

    Food and Dining

There is a great food court on campus that offers a variety of choices as well as a bunch of restaurants close to the campus. There is also a small cafe that is open longer than the food court inside the cafeteria. During lunch there is a small store open on the other side of campus from the cafeteria that offers fresh made sandwiches and more but is often a long wait.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken here so far have been very informative and the teachers all seem to be very knowledgeable and friendly.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have trouble getting classes try and try again, checking Mysierra online for openings over and over is the best way to get the classes you want. Always e-mail your teachers if you have questions, and take advantage of the walk-in consoling appointments.

    What to do for fun

Students can join the numerous clubs and associations around campus. There are also music and theatre performances.

    Food and Dining

The food could be improved. We have a little coffee shop and a cafeteria, but the food leaves much to be desired. Luckily the school changed vendors this year, so hopefully the school will have better tasting food.

    Dorm Life

My first semester at Sierra College, I stayed in the dorms. If you don't mind rooming with students just out of high school, then you should be fine :). It wasn't my cup of tea, but I loved the fact that I never had to rush to class.

    Academic Rigor

All I can say is that every semester I have attended Sierra College, I have always been challenged mentally to acquire as much useful information from my classes as possible. I believe Sierra College delivers.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students would be to get your paperwork in order before the semester starts so there's no hiccups in financial aid. Another tip I would give students would be to register early for their classes and complete the FASFA early.

    In three sentences

I believe Sierra College is an exceptional example of what acquiring knowledge should be about. Campus Safety

Sierra offers campus security from early morning to about midnight. Security is friendly but rigorous. I wouldn't try smoking on campus or parking without a pass. You will get caught! Sierra also emails students whenever something is happening in the area such as spottings of wild animals or a mugging. The email will also provide safety tips to students.

    Greek Life

    huh?

    Clubs and Activities

There are many academic clubs on campus. The college also has clubs for the disabled and for those who are gay, lesbian, or transgendered. Also, there is also something going on from bake sales, to camp outs on the grounds, when you walk the campus you will always find something to grab your attention.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students that want to achieve their education close to home but still live the campus lifestyle. The college is also great for mature students. Sierra is proof that higher education is not only for those who are fresh out of high school. They have a great mix of students. The campus also provides an on site day care center.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each spring Sierra sponsors Love Your Body Week. Unanimously, students and staff post posters and writings about their body secrets. Whether it be something unusual, an extra toe, or a instructor with tattoos and piercings. It is great fun to read and see those revealing their secrets.

    Bang for the buck

Classes run from 8:00 am to 10:30 pm Monday through Friday and there are completely online classes as well. You can also opt for hybrid classes and televised classes. Whether online, or on ground classes are $35.00 a credit, semester parking passes are $40.00, campus wide internet is $20.00, menue items range from $1.00 to $4.00, and health center fees are $5.00. They also offer huge discounts at local retailers.

    What to do for fun

The college has many clubs and there are often trips and activities that you can sign up for. Locally there are movie theaters, malls, coffee shops, fitness centers, parks, and flea markets. The college is also close to Sacramento, San Francisco, Reno, and Tahoe.

    Food and Dining

In a word: Starbucks! The dining hall offers a plethora of selections which include salad and soup bar, homemade sub sandwiches and tortillas, pizza, a great selection of breakfast items and vending machines for on the go. The grub is priced for a starving student's? budget. Try the chicken tortilla soup. It is to die for. And they have Starbucks.

    Dorm Life

Although I do not live in a dorm, I believe that Sierra is the only Junior college in California with dorms and the fees are nominal.

    Academic Rigor

Courses are challenging but not impossible. Help is available for free in both group settings and on a one to one basis.

    Tips for prospective students

The online course selection database is both easy to understand and to use. Register and chose your classes early because classes full up fast. But don't worry if the class you really want is full. Email the instructor and show up on the first day of class. There is a good chance you will get in; however, parking is sometimes a problem so arrive early.

    In three sentences

The staff at Sierra are professional, sincere, helpful, friendly, and they provide a wealth of information. The fees can't be beat and the college offers classes that fit everyone's schedule with day, evening, online, and hybrid classes. Sierra also offers state of the art equipment, small classes, free private and group tutoring and the campus is centrally located with beautiful grounds and courtyards.

Great for these types of students

    Anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

    Bang for the buck

I really don't have any other college to compare Sierra to. As long as you're renting your books from websites like chegg.com you'll be able to afford parking and classes.

    What to do for fun

There are many walking trials that connect to the campus, shaded seating areas and many tables can be found all around campus and are nice for doing homework or chatting with friends.

    Food and Dining

I love the cafeteria, there's a small starbucks like coffee shop, a buffet type section, a deli and loads of snack options.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

It is a community college so it is relatively inexpensive or free if one qualified for the BOG waiver.

    What to do for fun

There are some on-campus events, but the most fun would probably founb off-campus at the local waterpark and miniature golf in Roseville and the movies as well as in Sacramento.

    Food and Dining

Some of the food is pretty tasty. There has also been some additions since I graduated and transferred.

    Campus Safety

There is very little trouble with crime at either of the colleges campus. The Sierra College Police keep things very safe, and are very conscientious about returning student's lost and found items.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a Christian club, environmental club, biking club (led by my math instructor), and much more.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like to do a lot of online homework , and believe me the teachers do a lot of online homework.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I can not think of any unusual traditions for this school.

    Bang for the buck

Sierra College has a highly unreasonable tuition rate of $36 per unit. It gets worse. The tuition is expected to go up to $46 per unit. In addition, the book prices are outrageous. For my computer class, I bought a very small text book for $125, and for my Nutrition class I paid $220 for a small textbook that my teacher never cracked open.

    What to do for fun

Sierra College provides different clubs including an environmental group and Christian group.

    Food and Dining

I must admit that the food at the Sierra College cafeteria is expensive, gross, and non-nutritious. They sell a lot of processed foods such as chips, coke, pizza, etc. In addition, the food is often stale as if it had been sitting out for a long time. Lastly, it costs at least $4 for a single small slice of pizza, and $1 for each extra meal item. Definitely, not a budget friendly place.

    Dorm Life

I have never had to stay in a dorm so I can not give this a rating. In that case the rating I have given for Dorm Life is inaccurate. I just gave the rating because this survey wanted it.

    Academic Rigor

There are some really good teachers at Sierra College, but overall I feel the teacher quality is a little bit low. Alot of the teachers I have had so far waist the class time trying to turn there class into a political one sided platform.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I would suggest contacting and getting to know a counselor that works at Sierra College. In this way, students will learn about the different programs that Sierra College offers.

    In three sentences

I am very impressed with the huge variety of departments and courses that Sierra College carries. Also, the counselors are very cooperative and friendly with the students. If there is one thing that does bother me, it would be the fact that there aren't enough online courses.

    Campus Safety

The campus is extremely safe. I always notice cop cars parked on and around the campus. Also, Rocklin where the college in located is a decent, safe area. It is in general a good location and I have never felt unsafe at any time at any place on campus while attending.

    Bang for the buck

The cost for school keeps going up and people continue to get quite heated over this. Although I wish it was less expensive of course, I also consider the fact that you spend the same amount on a three to four month class as you can going to dinner and movies in a month, or taking guitar lessons (for example) from an instructor for 30 minutes a day, once a week...for a month. I know because I have paid for guitar lessons. So, my point being, in my opinion I think the cost of school for a semester is really not so bad. Not to mention it's overall much more of a rewarding experience. I think if you do a little research on the teacher your going to take and of course the class, then it should indeed be well worth the money.

    What to do for fun

Sierra college always has an art exhibit area to check out underneath the library hall. Not to mention there is always some type of play, film or speaker to see. Just recently The Vagina Monologues were brought to our school which was AMAZING! Not to mention these events are either extremely affordable or free. Lastly, there is almost always something going on in the courtyard to help educate, bring awareness, and even sometimes entertain us.

    Food and Dining

Although I stick to a coffee and at the most a muffin every once in awhile, the food in the cafeteria always looks and smells delicious. There is a variety of healthy food choices and well as not so healthy, yummy choices. There is quite a large variety of foods to choose from for every appetite.

    Dorm Life

I have not experienced living in the dorms, but I hear that is a positive experience when hearing the opinions of other students. The College offers everything you need from on-site police assistance, medical, nutrition, and activities available for on campus residing students.

    Academic Rigor

Sierra College has been quite impressive to me when it comes to Academic Rigor. Although I hear so much in the media about how schools are lacking in so many ways, I have continued to see Sierra College continue to flourish and offer the very best to it's students. The teachers continue to challenge our thoughts, ideas, inspirations, and creativity. I have been amazed that some of these teachers are only teaching at Junior College level.

    Tips for prospective students

Check ratemyprofessors.com...it's always been accurate as far as the teachers teaching styles, abilities, easiness, personalities and overall class structure.

    In three sentences

Sierra college is a junior college, but does not lack in a higher education and it also has a beautiful campus. Any help needed to assist you in getting through the year from financial aid, classes counselling, medical, and admission are always readily, conveniently available.I have come across amazing, inspiring teachers while attending and would recommend this college and college in general to everyone, at any age to attend today!!

sierra is a great school to go to if you're not sure what you want to pursue career wise or have not chosen a university. however, classes are impacted and it's basically first come first serve. those who have been there longer or in the military get first pick when it comes time to enroll.

    What to do for fun

there are many clubs you could join we have a football team that plays every friday afternoon and a cheer team. there is a large variety of other sport events to go to as well.

    Food and Dining

i have never eaten in the caffateria but the food looks to be average.

    Dorm Life

there are dorms, which is unusual for a junior college but i do not know much about them.

    Academic Rigor

academic rigor varies between students. some are looking to move on and succeed while others are still trying to decide what to do with their lives.

    Tips for prospective students

there are dorms at sierra but i believe they are mainly for foreign exchange students. the campus is nice and the teachers are great from what i have experienced. if your looking to transfer sierra would be a great stepping stone.

    In three sentences

sierra is a good communitiy college and has a good program if your are intending to transfer. however, classes are very impacted and it is especially hard to get science classes. i like the school but i would like to attend a 4 year university because being a junior college sierra lacks community.

    Campus Safety

There is never a day when security is not visibly present on campus. They patrol frequently and thoroughly, and are good about night time safety. There are many lights around campus, making night visibility fantastic, and there is rarely any type of incident at the school.

    Greek Life

Although they exist as a college-affiliated group, they are practically non-existent. They are never present on campus and have never been very community friendly.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a very large and active club atmosphere on campus. They are always present in the square doing fundraisers and raising awareness for different causes. Everyone is friendly, and are an asset to the school. Activities are also frequent on campus and allow students to participate in extra-curricular activities and meet new people.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student who is dedicated, hardworking, and goal-oriented, Sierra College is perfect for you and your long-term plans. The school not only offers fantastic majors and transfer courses, but career planning and life-skill classes as well. If you are a student who doesn't have much time to dedicate to school, but still want to learn, the school offers many classes year round to meet your needs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Near the science building, there are many different types of dinosaurs and sea creatures drawn out along the paths as a basic visual education course for students as they walk along.

    Bang for the buck

Although prices continue to rise, the school offers fantastic financial aide options as well as a used book program to help cut costs for students. The campus is lovely, with much foliage and animal life. It is a good school, but is getting a little too pricey for a community college.

    What to do for fun

There are many venues near the college that provide entertainment. About two miles from the school is a bowling alley along with a wide variety of dining options. In the neighboring city of Roseville, there are movie theaters, a mall, an ice skating rink, miniature golf, a water park, laser tagging, arcades, and go-karts.

    Food and Dining

While the food genre is not too varied on campus (ex: Hamburgers, Pizza, Sandwiches, Salad), the quality is excellent and the taste is delicious. The staff is very friendly, and enjoy making the food how you ask for it. It is nice to have actual meals available and not just junk food. However, the junk food is equally good.

    Dorm Life

Sierra has a small dorm available, and are a great financial choice for international students. The dorm provides a good sense of community as well as a guaranteed parking spot when school is in session. They are neat and clean, but for the most part rather bland and uninteresting.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of the courses at this school are extremely varied and are based solely on the teaching style of the professors. There are some classes that are very easy, and some classes that are very hard. However, the majority of professors make themselves available for office hours frequently in order to better help their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you check to see if a class you want to take is accepted at a CSU or UC. Use the worksheets in the counseling office to plan out how many classes you have, need, and want to take that work for you. Definitely plan to arrive very early to school during the first week due to an influx in parking.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a fantastic school for all types of students. The majority of classes are transferable, and there is a large selection of majors to choose from. Although the counselors are not the greatest, the school provides a great number of resources for current and transferring students.

Therre are alot of vending machines and good cafe and cafeteria food that is reasonably priced

    Dorm Life

Never lived in one, does not apply.

    Academic Rigor

Your teachers really determine the work load. Try to get teachers that you have heard good things about from friends or family if you can. There can be a lot of homework.

    Tips for prospective students

Know your way around the sierra college website, especially if you are taking an online course. It will really help you be more efficient if you know where everything is. Do not expect the sierra college bookstore to ever buy back your books.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is a great school if you are Internet savvy. Most of the teachers are well qualified and some are excellent. I highly recommend this community college.

    Campus Safety

Recently they have made it very well known that any student can ask a security guard to escort them to their cars, this is especially encouraged for night students. However, since I have been here there have been no need for Safety Enforcement.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life here :(...Unless phi theta kappa counts! (honors society just in case i got there name wrong...)

    Clubs and Activities

Well if you read the above comments this is my favorite thing about Sierra. There is a club for everything! ...and ANYONE. As for activities thereare different things going on everyday. Games, Music, Speeches, Guest Speakers, plays, concerts, Real food fundraisers, etc.. Also each month there is at least one awareness week on some topic and for the most part many people attend and participate.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for almost any student. There are so many different people and things going on everyday. I once heard someone say on campus, I love this school they have a club for everything. This is wonderful because there is a wide variety in interests and everyone can find something they really like and you can meet people with your same interests obviously.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a pond on campus that use to be a total dump, but just last summer (2011) the redesigned it with a water fall, water spout, and beautiful greenery and boulders. It also has a paddle boat!

    Bang for the buck

Not too sure what this phrase exactly means...

    What to do for fun

In school they have many activities going on all the time. Sometimes there are games in the quad, or barbque fundraisers. Also they have coffee shop nights where they have live music from students of sierra college and there are lots of people who attend and everyones very nice and inviting. Outside of school we have the mountains and wilderness to hike in, camp, throw a bonfire party, and the best part is Folsom Lake!

    Food and Dining

Food is averagely good. However we only have a small cafeteria and a coffee shop, wish there was more variety!!

    Dorm Life

There are actually dorms at this community college so already thats a huge plus. I know many students in the dorms and they seem to really enjoy it. Only downfall is there is VERY limited space and hard to get into.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken are challenging but also engaging. There are some weeks that are very tough and then others that are tough, but relieving and a bit more fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for fafsa, and ask your councilor if your may qualify for EOPS, CARE, or Trio. Also if you are of black or hispanic heritage join the Emoja or Puente Program! Lastly Join clubs!!! This is the best way to meet people and keep you sane throughout each semester.

    In three sentences

Sierra College is multiculture, and there are so many international students here, we meet new people from around the world all the time. The councilors here really take interest in the students and go above and beyond what is required of them! Lastly, The campus is absolutely beautiful for being a community college!

I have many friends, and I'm also able to join many outside activities that really interest me here in Sierra College. Although I've just been here for only a year, my college showed me really much about how different between the two educational systems of my country and the U.S. It makes me feel like going to school more than when I was in my country...I love my college.

Sierra College is great for someone who wants to take their time to take classes due to work or family related issues.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't buy your books from the Sierra College bookstore. You can find all your books online and for a much cheaper price.

    Bang for the buck

I really can't complain about how inexpensive and how well of an education I'm receiving. I highly recommend anyone to attend a two year institution first before they move on to a university.

    Am enjoying being here

As much as I like being in my hometown, I'm not very excited to being attending school here anymore. I am ready to move after two years.

    Am learning a lot

I am actually quite impressed by the level of education I have been receiving at the NCC campus up in Grass Valley. I'm very glad I stayed back home to finish up my GE.

    Tips for prospective students

-Go to the student/tutor center. The people there are more than willing and capable of helping out with any question you may have. -Do the leg work, don't expect your teacher to always have your best interest at heart and don't depend on the councilors to know everything. -And most importantly, never give up. Your grades are important and very worth the hard work. Never EVER let a teacher try to scare you away by the work load. You deserve to be the best you can be and don't let anyone tell you differently.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Sierra College is a great spring board. It helps you get focused, begin your career without paying the big bucks, and can give you much needed contacts for future jobs or colleges. Not a place to go and stay for the rest of your academic career.

    Did enjoy being here

In some instances, I did enjoy being there, but surrounded by students that really don't care for grades and are only there so they don't have to work did begin to grate on me. The campuses are beautiful and the tutor center was the best I've ever seen it. Some classes left a lot to be desired, but others, especially the science classes and Human Geography class were so awesome I did not want to stop.

    Did learn a lot

Sierra College taught me a lot. One of them knowing that to be a successful you can't depend on your teachers always having your best interest at heart. It also taught me that it is possible to have fun while still learning. Sierra College had its ups and downs as every community college does, but I learned a lot from it.

Great for these types of students

Great for all students! You can accomplish as much as you prefer to. They're are Associate and Bachelor degrees available making the Sierra experience whatever you'd like it to be. Its your school, your way!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for classes early and know what interests you. Most classes are challenging so be sure to choose courses you are interested in. There is a huge variety of courses, with an assortment of times making your schedule most accommodating to you and your life.

    Bang for the buck

The costs are all reasonable and you are getting more then you pay for. The time and dedication teachers put into teaching and helping is less than equivalent to the amount you pay. The only downfall is the price of books, but that's the case with any books, anywhere.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is welcoming, yet spacious. All the classrooms and neat and modern, as enjoyable to be in as classrooms can be. The library, learning and writing center and test centers are all very resourceful and accommodating, making studying and research more convenient and successful.

    Am learning a lot

Everyday I come with a new bit of knowledge that I didn't have the day before. It refreshing to be challenged at school, but not overwhelmed. The best part is having the ability to engage in a new assortment of conversations because of my recently learned information. The teaching staff is more then helpful and cooperative. They always welcome you to ask questions and express concerns. The counseling staff is also outstanding. They are almost always available and help you with even the most insignificant requests. They really lead and steer you on the path to your destination.
