Don't spend your entire time in your room if you are in howell hall, it's much more fun to hang around with people in the lobby.

You should ask current student's opinions on professors. This will help you get the right ones. You should also not be afraid of talking to random students because they are usually very nice and easy to talk to.

When you chose SPSU, it's one of the best schools for those who are interested in the engineering and architectural field. You meet tons of people all around the world and you learn so much that it's hard for you to place a hand in just one thing. It's very social for those who like that and it's also at the same time keeps to it's self.

Studying out of class is a necessity! This may sound like common sense, but trust me, that's proven to not be the case amongst most of my peers. I have a couple friends who were supposed to attend Georgia Tech this upcoming year after transferring from Southern Polytechnic, but they were unable to meet the minimum GPA requirements necessary to transfer to GT. Many students come in with the mentality that Southern Polytechnic is GT light, I can tell you this is not the case. It's important to realize Southern Poly is a TECHNOLOGY institute, while GT is more of a RESEARCH institute. This distinction is important because both styles are different, but neither is harder than the other. Basically, be prepared to be challenged and leave any preconceived notions you may have back at your high school.
