    Food and Dining

when i came i was not able to go inside since the actual students were on spring break as well. but, there is large amount of culinary cuisine that is paid in a special way the school has. though i do not like that the school buffet closes around 8 pm.

    Dorm Life

there are 2 or 3 dorm areas freshman can reside in i only visited 2. they were both moderately small for dormitories that fit i believe it was 2 or 3 people. but they supposedly have a system to match you with a good roommate.

    Academic Rigor

on my visit we went into to buildings mainly. i don't quite remember what they were but were said to be pretty technologically advanced. there was and engineering area that has their own robots and robotic arms. the school also has around half a million dollars in 3d printers.

    In three sentences

april 5th i visited the school on a tour. though the school in now merged with kennesaw state it doesn't feel like a lesser campus.

    Bang for the buck

It's not the worst in terms of price, but not the cheapest option either, but it is definantly worth the cost.

    What to do for fun

Play video games, watch tv/movies, go to walmart in the middle of the night, whatever you want basically.

    Food and Dining

Don't get the 19 meal plan, you won't ever be up for breakfast, trust me. The food at stingers is pretty good, however after a while it does get pretty boring and not as good.

    Dorm Life

Depends on how you spend your days. if your in your room all the time then the dorm life will just be meh, but if you go out and hang around with friends then its great.

    Academic Rigor

The schools academics are absolutely amazing. It has friendly and helpful teachers and great course offerings.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't spend your entire time in your room if you are in howell hall, it's much more fun to hang around with people in the lobby.

    In three sentences

The school is a paradise for anyone like me, a little anti-social and a huge nerd. With its courses offered it easily attracts these kind of people, and puts in a lot of effort to get everyone to meet eachother. The school has a very friendly attitude.

    Campus Safety

I feel extremely safe on campus even at night. I am a girl and I can walk around by myself at night for the most part. If I ever get spooked though I can call the campus police and they can walk me where ever I want to go. There are always other students that are willing to walk with you as well.

    Greek Life

They do have greek life and we have greek houses.

    Clubs and Activities

They have easily over 50 clubs. It is very easy to get involved on campus.

Great for these types of students

It is pretty much a geek/nerd school. Yet, I am neither and I fit in just fine. Anyone could go here and enjoy it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

SPSU has an annual pumpkin launch. Students make sling shots or cannon vaults and put a pumpkin in it. They launch them as far as they can. It is so much fun ton watch and this past year, a news station helicopter filmed some of it. We also have the annual bathtub races. Where students make vehicles out of bathtubs.

    What to do for fun

SPSU always has something happening on campus. There are tons of events. They have carnivals and movie nights and random fun events.

    Food and Dining

The main food source is Stingers which is the cafeteria. It is alright but you get bored of it pretty quickly. Mondos is the campus's Subway. It has great subs. Then in the student center there is My Grill which has burgers and the is a Chinese Restaurant also. Both are great. Lastly there is Spork which is definitely the place to go if you want Starbucks or a hamburger or hotdog. Spork is open till 1:30 AM so its the place to go when everything else is closed.

    Dorm Life

I live in Hornet Village not Howell. They say though that if you want to be very social Howell Dorm is the way to go. Howell is very social and more of a community dorm, but you can have just as much fun in Hornet Village. You just have to be willing to talk to your floor mates and get social. The RA's always have floor events going on as well which is a great place to meet others on your floor. All dorms are great sizes as well.

    Academic Rigor

The education at SPSU is fantastic. It is challenging but you can succeed as long as you try hard. They have tons of resources for help. They have free tutoring in almost every subject. Other students are also willing to help you as well.

    Tips for prospective students

You should ask current student's opinions on professors. This will help you get the right ones. You should also not be afraid of talking to random students because they are usually very nice and easy to talk to.

    In three sentences

I love Southern Polytechnic State University. It is a small but great campus. Everyone is so friendly.

    Food and Dining

The food is great but from what I've heard it is quite expensive so be prepared to eat somewhere off campus or learn to cook!

    Dorm Life

On my visit I noticed all of the students interacting with one another and having a blast everyone seemed to get along or have a group they liked to hang out with and enjoy dorm life together.

    Academic Rigor

I have been told by friends that this school having a higher acceptance rate than some other colleges and universities is up there with some of the top schools in Georgia.

    In three sentences

On my visit to SPSU I noticed how polite the staff was. The students seemed very friendly and always active. I cannot wait to be a Hornet!

    Campus Safety

Very safe place, i walked around at night just about very night by myself and never felt threatened or unsafe.

Great for these types of students

Anyone. You can stay in you're shell or be a social butterfly. Great place for gamers and computer nerds.

    Bang for the buck

For the price of school it is excellent and very hands on. class settings are like being back in high school. You can talk to the professor right when you need him and don't have to go through a TA,

    What to do for fun

They're plenty of activities they like to put one at the school. If you're not one for school spirit and social events they have plenty of video game tournaments and etc. or you can just be anti-social. but there's always something to do when you have friends that live in studio.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing at the beginning and close to the very end. Pizza and cereal were always my favorite. They like to switch things up a lot is all i can say.

    Dorm Life

Depending on which dorm you have it's can either be really awesome or very interesting. Everyone strives for the apartments(commons and courtyard) and Horton village. I as a freshman got Howell hall(freshman dorm) because it was the cheapest and wanted to get the full college experience. It was a pretty interesting experience from crazy encounters to movie nights with people i won't forget.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major you pick and what classes you have, the work can get tough. they do through a lot at you because they expect you can handle it. If it's too much , you can always talk to your professor or go to tutoring in The Attic.

    Tips for prospective students

When you chose SPSU, it's one of the best schools for those who are interested in the engineering and architectural field. You meet tons of people all around the world and you learn so much that it's hard for you to place a hand in just one thing. It's very social for those who like that and it's also at the same time keeps to it's self.

    In three sentences

Southern Polytechnic state is a small, comfortable, and academically thriving school. It's a place where everyone has different interest but a common goal. It's the best place to be if you're coming out of high school and don't want to drown in a big crowd of people

    What to do for fun

Try participating in intramurals, go to the gym, or hang out in the Student Center, all are fun options.

    Food and Dining

The food is expensive! Most people eat at Stinger's (X building) where every meal is an open buffet that cost $10. There are other options on campus, however. There's a sandwich shop, a Chinese stop, and a burger joint to name a few, but most people once again just eat at Stinger's. The quality of the food is decent, and the big plus is the variety. Pretty much any ethnicity of food can be found on campus, but once again it is pricy. If this doesn't sound appealing to you there are many options surrounding the campus too. Overall, the food while pricy is decent and satisfying.

    Dorm Life

I can't say much about the dorms because SPSU is known more as a commuter college, and I myself am an accessory to this. Those who stay in Dorms often, however, complain about loud noises, fire alarms pulled in the middle of the night (yes more than once), and PDS (Public Displays of Stupidity) that include skateboarding down dorm halls, couples having sex in other people's open dorm rooms, and binge drinking. Stay away from Howell, as the horror stories that come out of it are unparalleled (I can't disclose any online due to potential censorship). Overall, try to commute like the majority of students, but if you have to live on campus, do your best to avoid Howell.

    Academic Rigor

Southern Polytechnic is a challenging university, as stated before. However, it can be beaten. Make sure you sign up for the best professors (use ratemyprofessor.com) and designate at least two hours of your day to studying. There are tons of studying groups on campus, so make sure to get involved in one. The professors can be tough, particularly the math department, but I passed with straight A's last year in 32 credit hours while working nights to pay for my degree through time management and determination. Overall, expect to be challenged and put in a lot of work, but if you try hard enough, there's no way you can fail.

    Tips for prospective students

Studying out of class is a necessity! This may sound like common sense, but trust me, that's proven to not be the case amongst most of my peers. I have a couple friends who were supposed to attend Georgia Tech this upcoming year after transferring from Southern Polytechnic, but they were unable to meet the minimum GPA requirements necessary to transfer to GT. Many students come in with the mentality that Southern Polytechnic is GT light, I can tell you this is not the case. It's important to realize Southern Poly is a TECHNOLOGY institute, while GT is more of a RESEARCH institute. This distinction is important because both styles are different, but neither is harder than the other. Basically, be prepared to be challenged and leave any preconceived notions you may have back at your high school.

    In three sentences

Southern Polytechnic has been a surprisingly decent and overall, fun university to attend. Of course, in light of the recent merger announcement much of my review will be moot, but it's still worth looking over considering the campus will still remain. Don't apply, not because it's not a great school, but because it will just become Kennesaw State soon anyway.

Few options that are only open at certain times. If you live on campus in Howell or Hornet, which you are freshman year, you are required to get a meal plan, get the 14 meals and 200 dining dollars because with the dining halls times even 14 meal plans will be too much.

    Dorm Life

Many activities brought to residents by different Housing organizations.

    Academic Rigor

Many early classes are easy to follow as long as the student is willing to work.

    Tips for prospective students

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs are very active. There are more than 15 clubs are SPSU, and they all have different orientations such as cultural, sport, international, African, Chinese and many others. They organize event and lotteries.

Great for these types of students

If youare an international students, you may like trips outside the school because these are rare opportunities to have fresh air and to get over stress of the heavy workload.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every fridays, there is an event at the student center building where student come and express their talents Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, doing comedy, everything is allowed.

    Bang for the buck

Students are usually doing events at which the entrance or participation cost some amount of money to raise money. Other are doing extra hours at work. These are much more out-of-state behavior because for them the fees are really high.

    What to do for fun

We play Frisbee in the compound when there is sun, we slide on the snow and build snowman when it snows and we sing, play music and go to theatre whenever it is possible. Also there are greek houses organizing events almost every week. So you can't get bored at Southern Polytechnic State University.

    Food and Dining

I personally don't a meal plan but I often go to Spork restaurant, SPSU's restaurant. The food is good but doesn't not vary much and also does not take in consideration the vegetarian status of certain people.

    Dorm Life

No racist actions have been reported during this year among roomates of any dorms' building. People are friendly but if you have decent and fair principles, like always keep your place clean, you should make sure that the one(s) you will be living with be aware of that.

    Academic Rigor

Rules are clear, instructions are strict. Whatever you plan to do at Southern Polytechnic University, make sure you follow instructions carefully, otherwise you can get lost.

    Tips for prospective students

New comers should not be afraid to ask if they are not able to find their way. Life at SPSU is all about communication and networking. Prospective students should make sure they follow instructions given in class by the lecturers if not, they could run out of time very often concerning projects or homeworks deadlines. They have to attend events and conferences, to get in touch with people for their future careers. Also, if you intend to attend Southern Polytechnic State University, you should avoid living a lonely life, but instead be open minded.

Southern polytechnic State University is an excellent university of techonology with high level lecturers and well equipped classrooms and laboratories. I don't live on campus but from what I hear (and see) its not a party school.

    In three sentences

I would give it a 4/5. It is a hands on college and my experience is that most of the professors work with the students. There are some professors that are not good but for the most I like them. There assignments are the same as GA tech except they don't give you as much work at one time.

    Bang for the buck

    Very affordable tuition!

    What to do for fun

Ultimate frisbee, game, socialize, exercise, play pool, ping pong, go swimming, soccer, baseball or enjoy the engineering building.

    Food and Dining

While some of the on-campus food has its moments, a lot of its food is rather overpriced and subpar for the price. Either commute for a year and get an apartment if you want to be a resident or learn to cook off campus and save yourself some money.

    Dorm Life

The dorms outside for the apartments are standard in expectations, depending on your preference. Pick wisely and be fine.

    Academic Rigor

This campus' curriculum is rather difficult on paper, but if you actively participate in and out of class, you will find yourself learning with a hands-on approach.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Ratemyprofessor.com is your best friend. 2) Don't get the expensive meal plan. 3) Talk to your classmates and professor.

    In three sentences

The campus is small and easy to navigate, while the staff is just as easily reached. The classes are easy to grasp and hard to master due to the hands-on learning style many teachers apply to prepare students for the working world. The only downside is the heavy focus on technology monopolized the student pool with males and doesn't really offer anything for females to be interested in that isn't engineering, science, education or architecture.

Fees are low and the return for the education you receive is priceless. S.P.S.U. is an amazing school with a lot more to offer than its competitors.

    What to do for fun

There is a great gym on campus to play racket ball or swim a few laps. Also, the game room in the Student Center has pool tables, ping pong, and some flat screens for gaming. Never crowded, always a good time.

    Food and Dining

Delicious. Much better than anything you would ever expect from a cafeteria and SPSU also offers many other smaller dining establishments around campus to satisfy your cravings.

    Dorm Life

Brand new dorms are state-of-the-art and establish a great community among the students.

    Academic Rigor

Courses are challenging but help and guidance is available to anyone that asks for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to take a tour as the campus is much larger than it looks on a map. Also, if you ever need help, whether it's finding a building or figuring out what documents you need to apply with, don't hesitate to ask any of the staff on campus. Get ready for every phone call you make to go directly to a helpful human and never a confusing robot.

    In three sentences

Amazing school! The faculty and staff go above and beyond to help the students out. Small class sizes and a plethora of online courses make this university accessible and accommodating.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are around 24/7. There are multiple help boxes around the school. Sometimes the homeless do wonder around the school but if you leave them alone, they mind there own business.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for nerdy students. Usually those who are computer savvy or tech savvy.

    Bang for the buck

The school offers a relatively small amount of tuition. The only downside is that while they do offer a payment plan, if you don't pay it off, all of your classes would be dropped. Payment for tuition is also due very early at this school. Please have all of your money situations completed before attending the school. If not, expect many difficulties heading your way unfortunately.

    What to do for fun

There are a wide variety of clubs at SPSU. Greek life is also present at the school. Parties, concerts, cookouts, and other events sometimes take place here. The school offers a game room that has ping pong tables and billiards. You could go to the recreational center to play basketball or to exercise. There is also a lot of places where you could play Ultimate Frisbee with your friends.

    Food and Dining

There are three or four eateries offered at SPSU. If you were to live on campus, you are required to have a meal plan. One restaurant, the Stingers X, has breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is also a buffet style restaurant. Each day, they offer different meals to keep variety. Going to eat there uses up the meal ticket that restarts every week. Another place, Mondo Subs, sells sub sandwiches for the students. There you could also purchase sushi. You would have to pay to get food at Mondo Subs.

    Dorm Life

There are two different dorms at SPSU. The older one is called Howell Hall and the newer one is called Hornet Village. The older dorm is a community dorm and is cheaper than Hornet Village. Since it is a community dorm, the students must share the bathrooms and showers. There is some privacy in the older dorm but not much. The newer dorm has more privacy compared to the old dorm and each room has their own bathroom and shower. For example, if you are living in Hornet Village and you have a roommate, each person gets their own room but have to share the bathroom and shower. There are some concerts, parties, and cookouts once in a while.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is very high in this university. Although the grading scale differ from teacher to teacher, take in mind that if you were to miss an assignment, you would fall behind a lot. Please make sure to keep up and to complete all work given or else you would see your GPA drop. All in all just remember to try your best to keep up and you'll succeed in the school. Please overcome any procrastination tendency's that you have. It will help you in the school.

    Tips for prospective students

Whenever you are signing up for classes, try your best not to choose an online class. It is better to attend the actual classes and it is also cheaper. Attending the classes makes the relationship between the professor and student a lot better. That way, if a problem where to arise, the professor could work with you to overcome the problem.

    In three sentences

Southern Polytechnic State University is a big engineering school in Georgia. Due to this, there are a lot of males and few females attending the school. Don't let this hinder the fact that this school is very good.

Talk with friends and jam with them. The campus is really sparse and small, so have a ride to explore the surrounding areas with.

The food is pretty good, but the variety isn't much to talk about. The main restaurant is closed pretty early every day, and the price is pretty expensive.

    Dorm Life

Friends are everywhere, moreso than enemies. There are no mean spirits, at least in the dorm I stayed in. I do have to say, the dorms and people are nice, but the area around the dorm isn't really saying much.

    Academic Rigor

The school's pretty tough, along the lines of Georgia Tech tough. No teachers will give you slack or any extra points for doing nothing (unless you take the throwaway classes).

    Tips for prospective students

It's a pretty small school, so don't be afraid to reach out to other people and greet them. Make friends, establish relationships, and also have a ride of some sort. The campus is a bit too small to stay cooped up in.

    In three sentences

It's a great school that consists of a lot of like minded individuals who all strive to become the next greatest thing since sliced bread. People everywhere in this school are friendly and welcoming. Academic rigor is high up there.

    Campus Safety

I feel really safe on this campus walking around after talk. Even when something does happen, SPSU is quick to make sure that the students are safe. They have hornet alert which will send you emails or text messages about what is going on, and they are always really quick to send you the notifications about what you need to do.

    Clubs and Activities

There are always events to go to and things to do. Just ask around, and you are sure to find something that you will have fun doing.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have a rock that acts as controlled graffiti that clubs and organizations can paint, which is pretty cool.

    What to do for fun

There are more clubs that you can even think about at SPSU. I'm pretty sure they almost have a club for everything. If clubs aren't your speed, then you have Greek life. Or, you can also just make friends in the lobbies.

    Food and Dining

SPSU has a few issues with food. Most of it is pretty good, but not always. Plus, if you aren't on a meal plan Stingers is SUPER expensive. Another problem is that after about eightish on Friday nights, nothing is open. They are starting to change the hours of the restaurants on campus, so we'll see if this changes anything.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Hornet Village, so I can only really talk about them. But, I love the dorms! There is always something going on that you can enjoy. They RAs have events every other week or so that you can go to. Some of them are a little lame, and some of them are great- it just depends. If you aren't into large groups, there are also the lobbies that you can hang out in. Each floor has at least one flat screen that you can play games on. Small groups like to hang out in these lobbies, and everyone is really nice, so just come hang out.

    Academic Rigor

Many of these majors require a lot of math and science, so be prepared to work. Its not going to be easy, but there are plenty of ways to get help if you need it. They have torturing and many professors have office hours. So yes you will have hard classes, but they aren't impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

Order books from Amazon or somewhere else. They are super expensive from the book store. Don't let Greek life or clubs overwhelm you. Go to class and try your best. The professors want to graduate.

    In three sentences

SPSU is a wonderful school with a challenging curriculum. As long as you are willing to work, you will do great, because the professors want you to succeed. They have great majors, programs, spaces and a great campus.

    Campus Safety

Never had a problem, but the surrounding area seems like it could be sketchy at times.

    Greek Life

    No idea.

    Clubs and Activities

A decent selection of technical and engineering clubs, but otherwise not much going on.

Great for these types of students

Older people with families, people who work full-time, and people who don't care for the traditional college experience.

    Bang for the buck

Not much cheaper than GT, and provides far fewer benefits as far as career/internship/co-op/small-business opportunities.

    What to do for fun

    Study.

    Food and Dining

Not bad, about average I'd say.

    Dorm Life

Not very good. I don't live in the dorms, but from what I've seen they are mediocre, and theres not much that goes on. Also, the ridiculous imbalance between men and women makes it feel strange, and somehow less fun, carefree, and exciting.

    Academic Rigor

Decent, but some classes feel like they have been made easier, to cater to all the people who can't handle tech as they say.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you're getting into - do not go here for the traditional college experience where you party, make all kinds of friends, etc. because this place is for people who mostly just care about school.

    In three sentences

Transferred in after completing my freshman year at another nearby school, to pursue engineering. Not a bad school, definitely a sausage-fest (check the most recent student demographics) although that means campus is much more quiet than your usual university. There's no parties, and when there is a group of people, chances are they are either playing video games or studying. Many of the professors are good people and good teachers, but the administration staff is hit or miss.

    What to do for fun

Plenty of events to attend, exercise at the gym,

    Food and Dining

    Food is terrible.

    Dorm Life

There are two kinds of dorms for freshman students. The traditional dorm often gets loud with people banging on doors and playing games/music.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are quite strict. Grading policy in low-level classes are usually drop lowest test/quiz grade. The difficulty of classes are pretty high if you don't study.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep up your schedule and don't fall behind on assignments. Study for each subject an hour or two each day.

    In three sentences

It's a good school overall. Students and professors can get to know each other pretty well once in upper level classes. Lower level classes are pretty standard and large sized, but smaller than regular college class sizes.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life on campus is really good, participating in a lot of campus activities and doesn't act too 'fratty'. Greek life as a whole is very respectable around here compared to other colleges.

    Clubs and Activities

The more technical clubs (Arial Robotics, FormulaSAE, Steel Bridge Team) give a lot of technical experience outside of class.

    Bang for the buck

The credit hours here are cheap compared to the same degree at Georgia Tech or similar. Overall, the tuition is good, the meal plan is overpriced, and the housing depends on what you can get off-campus instead.

    What to do for fun

Join a club, or hang out, really. There are some on-campus activities, but for the most part, weekends get pretty slow. Either go off-campus or make your own fun with your friends.

    Food and Dining

The meal plan setup is not as streamlined or as efficient as other schools, but the food in general is pretty okay.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are decent, just watch out for the (more than) occasional fire alarm going off in the building. Over all , though, they are clean and haven't burned down yet.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging as a whole. This is an engineering school, so it makes sense that the workload will equal the rigor of the degree.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard your first semester, a good GPA now will help you down the line. Get involved in some of the clubs on campus, many of them will help your resume and give you some technical experience on the side.

    In three sentences

Southern Poly is a good school if you're looking for a smaller campus (and class size) while still getting a good engineering or technical degree. The campus is spread out enough to feel big without actually being cumbersome. The teachers are knowledgeable in what they teach and usually have actual work experience to back up their subject.

    Bang for the buck

Ultimately, I believe that the price for tuition is inexpensive, especially when compared to the bigger school around Georgia and the nation.

    What to do for fun

There are events that happen everyday. Dodgeball, lasertag, movie night, poker, game night, and that's just the beginning! My favorite things to do with friends though are playing racquetball and frisbee-golf.

    Food and Dining

Many restaurants are around campus that serve dishes from freshly prepared sushi to all American burgers. The main area to eat is Stingers, which has a wide variety of food choice that vary from day to day.

    Dorm Life

Right now i live in Howell Hall and it is the traditional college experience. A lot of friendly guess who get together and have a good time!

    Academic Rigor

Your beginning core classes are pretty easy and transition well from High School, but your core classes require hours of study time and usually outside resources.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending, come knowing that you want to gain knowledge. If you ever have trouble there are plenty of resources that you can use to help you out, like the ATTIC and your teachers upon appointment.

    In three sentences

On the outside, Southern Polytech looks to be a small community college with very little renown for fun. Those of us who go here know that Southern Polytech is one of the more rigorous choices but is always alive with activities like most colleges around the nation..

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are serious about their schoolwork. This isn't a party school at all.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The most unusual tradition that SPSU has are the annual bathtub races.

    What to do for fun

Many students join Greek Life and make friends with those in their classes in order to meet people. There's a game room and a theater in the Student Life Center- the game room includes pool, ping pong, and televisions for gamers to hook their game system up. There are always multiple events happening on campus, the only downside is that the word doesn't always get spread well. However, if you DO attend any of the events, you receive Hornet Loot, which is used as raffle tickets to win prizes during the middle of the semester! So it's always exciting if you get out, and DO DO DO!

    Food and Dining

The food is excellent. The cafeteria serves breakfast, brunch, light lunch, lunch, and dinner. Once you swipe your card, it's all you can eat. There are different options inside of the cafeteria, such as customized salads, the burgers and french fries, the action station which usually serves stir-fry, the bakery, pizza, and the desserts and cookies! Catch breakfast on the weekends, and you can even get omelettes made for you. There are places to eat in the Student Life Center, Atrium Building, and the restaurant Sporks, that opens from 7PM-12AM. Most places on campus even serve sushi! So there's always food for anyone's liking.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty awesome. That sums it up! I love staying on campus! Freshman also have the option of upgrading to the suites instead of staying in a community dorm their first year. There are plenty of lounges in the dorms to plug up your video games to and conference rooms to form study groups.

    Academic Rigor

Out of the classes I've attended, I love my professors. Their syllabi's are all clear and concise, and there are so many academic resources available to you on campus. The library and the ATTIC are great examples. Even if you need assistance from your teachers, they have certain office hours you can contact them during, and you can usually reach them by e-mail at any time.

    Tips for prospective students

If planning to attending Southern Polytechnic State University, there are a few things to keep in mind- staying on campus is one of them! It's extremely convenient to stay on campus, simply because there is tutoring, friends, great food (including with your meal plan), and you're in the heart of all the action! There are many shops nearby, as well as Marietta Square, so there is tons to do around campus. Also, don't choose all night classes. I understand that sleeping in is a want, especially after some of those late-nights, however, you're definitely not going to want to complete your homework at 9:15 PM when you're JUST getting out of class.

    In three sentences

Southern Polytechnic State University offers a great alternative to Georgia Tech in regards to affordability, education, and a green (literally) campus. The campus food tastes wonderfully, and there are tons of places to use your dining dollars. The teachers here genuinely care about your education, and your pockets.

    Clubs and Activities

There is Always Something going on on-campus. Usually the issue isn't finding something to do, rather decided which something to do as multiple events will happen at the same time. As far as clubs though, there is a club for just about anything on this campus, and if there isn't already one that you want, you can start one up pretty easily.

    Food and Dining

The meal plan at this school gets you into the all-you-can-eat restaurant on campus as well as a couple other places (sub place, burger joint, and Hispanic take-out like line) if you get the one with extra dining dollars. The food is decent enough to eat through your first year. (It's required for dorm/suite residents.) However, if you aren't required to have a meal plan, don't get one. Buying your own food is much cheaper, tastes better, and is available on your own schedule.

    Dorm Life

I have lived in the dormitory, Greek Row/Columns, and, now, the Courtyard apartments. The dormitories are alright if you are okay sharing a bathroom with an entire floor. Neither of the freshmen options (Howell dormitory nor Hornet Village suites) have kitchens, so all residents are required to have meal plans. Living in the Greek area was definitely an upgrade from the dormitory. I had my own, larger room, a bathroom which I shared with one other female, and a kitchen shared by the house. The apartment I am living in now is definitely the best so far. It is the most spacious; I have my own bathroom and share a kitchen with only 3 other people now. Everywhere but the dorms are rather expensive though.

The food and dining options are great. Not only are there restaurants off campus, there are several restaurants located on the campus as well. The dining hall offers the best though because there are many food options as well as the opportunities to meet new people.

    Dorm Life

I personally have not lived on campus, however I know people who have and it is helpful to get to classes on time, especially if you like to sleep in a bit longer than most students. You are also given the opportunity to meet new students that are your age by living around the other students.

    Academic Rigor

The campus Police are very friendly. At first, it may be unnerving seeing a cop on campus all the time, but after a while, one gets use to it. They respond very quickly to incoming calls from the campus. They work with the Housing Staff to fully protect the campus. There is also no favoritism played when it comes to the safety of students on campus. They have a Facebook page that they use to engage the public for help.

    Greek Life

As mentioned above, the biggest event for Greek Life is Goat Night. It is a competition between the fraternities and sororities for the number one spot. Besides that, Greek Life is very active. It really is a way of life. People who live the Greek Life always have something going on, whether it be going to the gym or having a party.

    Clubs and Activities

On the SPSU campus, there is a club or organization for everyone. Some clubs meet once a week and some once a month. The best way to find out about these clubs and organizations is by attending an open house or the first week of school. There is a board of teachers, Campus Activities Board, which put together different activities on campus from informal to fun to get students more active on campus. The Department of Housing is also a big part of activities on campus. The resident assistants and desk assistants of housing put together different activities every day/night to interest residents on campus.

Great for these types of students

Southern Polytechnic State University is great for students who love learning new things, love technology, like a relatively small campus, or just like being involved. While Southern Poly is known for its technical majors, if offers a lot more than that. With its many clubs and organizations, partnerships, and grants, one could be learning Spanish in Spain or building a motorcycle from the ground up. SPSU also strives to create a homey environment with many activities to draw the students together.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A huge tradition on the SPSU campus is Goat Night. Goat Night is a talent competition between the different fraternities and sororities. Each fraternity and sorority performs in three different categories: eating competition, skit, and dame. A live goat must be used in the skit and dance portions. The SPSU campus is one big circle. In the center of the campus is the Atrium. The Atrium is a building for classes that aren't math, science, or architecture related. Also, the Architecture majors have their own building to do their different projects.

    Bang for the buck

When it comes to eating, it is cheaper to live on campus. With living on campus, one can purchase a meal plan. With this meal plan, comes a certain amount of meals to eat at the campus' cafeteria, Stingers, plus dinning dollars to use at the other restaurants located on campus. One particular restaurant is Mondos. It is located in the atrium on the first floor. For the price of about three dollars, one can purchase a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and a small coffee provided by Dunkin' Donuts.

    What to do for fun

Between the Greek Life activities, Housing events, and Campus Activities Board activities, there is always something to do. One can play Humans vs Zombies, find a lobby and play Xbox games, attend an event, go to a party off campus, throw a party, etc.

    Food and Dining

The food at SPSU is above average. From 7am to midnight, there is a restaurant on campus that is open. There are three different restaurants besides the cafeteria and they offer a range of foods like burgers, Chinese food, smoothies, subs, etc.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is very interesting. There is a type of housing for everyone. From traditional halls to suites to apartments. There is housing staff there to help with problems, friends are easily made, and soon you'll be calling it 'home'.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major and the courses you're required to take, the academic rigor varies. For the most part, however, each class requires a lot of work and studying. Also, a lot of the core classes are need to take the classes that are designed for your major and if you don't get the core class, you don't pass the major classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Your studies come first. One can easily fall into a routine of enjoying campus life and not focusing on their studies. A lot of freshmen don't make it through their first year, the courses are rigorous. Make friends. Be nice to your professors because your grade is in their hands.

    In three sentences

Southern Poly is the best worst place to be. The classes will challenge you but the rewards will be great. It is a great place to network.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are a few strange traditions that this school has. We have annual human vs zombies war where the students can chose a side and objective is to have the most participants survive by the end of the week.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other schools, you can save a lot of money attending this school. that is one of the reasons that I chose it. I can get the same, if not a better education at this school and not have to spend both arms and both legs worth of money.

    What to do for fun

There is almost always an event happening on campus. Our housing and recreational life staffs do an excellent job of planning and running weekly events for residents on our campus.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is not bad. We recently signed a new contract with a different food service company that has paid off. We have one main cafeteria and three other campus restaurants. We have a burger and burrito area. We also have a sandwich area and a grill are that offers oriental food as well.

    Dorm Life

There are a few different areas that can be lived in on campus. There are dorms for freshmen, there are suited for freshmen, there are suites for upperclassmen, there are apartments for upperclassmen, and there is Greek and special housing. All of these housing options have something special to offer its residents.

    Academic Rigor

Southern Poly is tougher in its math and science classes due to the fact that it is an engineering school. However, this is necessary for success and most teachers are willing to help students one on one during their office hours or scheduled meetings. If this is not enough, then our school offers a tutoring program for anyone who needs help in all classes.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going to be a student at this school then I would suggest that you prepare for a good college experience. SPSU is not a really big school. There are around 6000 students, most of which are commuters so you get a great student to teacher ratio which helps the learning experience.

    In three sentences

Southern Polytechnic State University is an excellent school to receive a degree in engineering or architecture. This school offers a lot of hands on learning that can be useful when applying for jobs when the time comes. I recommend this school to anyone serious about earning a higher education efficiently.

    Food and Dining

The food is ok. Its neither bad nor is it the best but it is still enjoyable.

    Dorm Life

The dorms for freshman are excellent. The only downside is the size if you share a roomate, other than that, the droms are grade: A. The dorms even come with free laundry!

    In three sentences

The atmosphere at SPSU is very friendly. The teachers seem to be very dedicated to teaching and treat you as a person instead of a number. The campus just has a feeling about it that makes everything seem right.

Not only is their a wide variety to choose from, but the price is reasonable for great all-you-can-eat meals. Healthy choices, including salad and fruit bars, are also available. Academic Rigor

The academic programs offered by Southern Poly shouldn't be taken lightly. While the professors are fair, they have high standards set for their classes and for their students. Campus Safety

Campus safety is decent, but not great. Although nothing has ever happened to me, apparently a lot of laptops have been stolen around campus. Also, apparently some thieves robbed a dorm room, and there was a criminal fleeing from another crime that wandered on to campus. The warning system here is really good though - they immediately text and email you as well as using the PA system on campus so you will know right away if something has happened. I think they take a really strong approach to safety and overall I would say I feel pretty safe on campus.

    Greek Life

I am not involved in Greek life so I cannot speak to this.

    Clubs and Activities

I am involved pretty heavily in two engineering societies on campus, and I think this involvement has presented a lot of opportunities that I would not otherwise have received. It is a smaller campus, so a little bit of effort can go a long way and you can get involved in an organization and be on the board a lot more easily than at some larger schools, which looks really good on your resume and gives you great leadership experience.

Great for these types of students

Commuters, technical people, gamers, people trying to save money and get a good value for their degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't really know too many unusual traditions, there are some good study rooms on the second floor of the library, and the Q building has a lot of comfortable lounging areas or study spaces. One stupid rule here is that all student organizations have to use the catering services for any on campus event, and the food is bad and they are overpriced! This is probably the biggest complaint I have with the school, as the rules for this are ridiculous and there seems to be no way to get around it. If you aren't involved in any student organizaitions, though, then this shouldn't be an issue for you.

    Bang for the buck

I think considering the price of SPSU and your ability to get good employment opportunities with a degree from here, it is a great bang for the buck. It was in the top four colleges rated best return on investment in Georgia, and I feel that to be true depending on what you choose to study and the effort you put into it. I have already received several lucrative internship opportunities, and expect to have multiple offers upon graduation.

    What to do for fun

SPSU is overall pretty full of nerds who spend all their time gaming. However, there are a lot of on campus organizations that provide for social interaction outside of video games where you can meet some good friends. Also, the student center game room area can be fun.

    Food and Dining

The food at SPSU is not its strong point. However, I will say that the sandwiches they make in the J building are really good, especially the tuna!

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms or on campus, so I cannot speak to this.

    Academic Rigor

SPSU is rated one of the schools that grades the most fairly. I have found this to be true. When I work hard in a class, I usually get a good grade. Projects are challenging and very helpful in the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to do the work if you would like to get good grades. SPSU is not an easy school by any means, however if you put in the effort you should be fine. Professors are approachable and usually more than willing to help.

    In three sentences

SPSU is a good school for Computer Science or Software Engineers. You get a lot of practical experience creating computer programs or games. Professors are very competent, approachable and willing to help.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

    Food and Dining

There are many dining choices here on campus, but if you lack a meal plan then they seem overpriced.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not wait until the last minute to study and attend every lecture/lab even if it's not required. By doing this you're going to be successful in your classes, and you will have time to become involved on campus.

    In three sentences

I love the academic challenge that this University offers. I'm also involved in Alpha Xi Delta Women's Fraternity and other organizations here on campus. Overall Southern Poly is a 7/10. The only reason why it shouldn't get a 10/10 is because of the lack of excitement shown sometimes on campus.

    Campus Safety

Every time I looked around a SPSU patrol car was driving by. If I was in a building, an officer would be walking by. I always heard other officers talking on their walkie talkie, so it was good to know that the campus police were in constant contact and could be anywhere in a moment's notice.

    Greek Life

Didn't see any Greeks during my visit, but I hope that I can pledge Delta when I go.

    Clubs and Activities

SPSU has a lot of clubs to join and activities to busy yourself. Best part about them is that they still have it to where if you're grades aren't up to par you are no longer in the clubs.

Great for these types of students

SPSU is amazing for students who learn better with a visual and doing the classwork themselves. Every classroom I visited, and every teacher I talked to had their students trying out the work before class ended. It makes it easier to do the work alone later because the work always seems easier when the teacher does it!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    I haven't started here yet so i don't know.

    Bang for the buck

I really wish I lived in state as I compare in state tuition to the out of state tuition, but with all the help the school offers I can't complain.

    What to do for fun

The school is relatively close to downtown Atl, and this huge mall type thing is down the street from the school on Marietta Parkway. Personally, I would just grab a few friends (after homework) and just chill over food at the burrito place on campus.

    Food and Dining

I saw some on campus restaurants on campus and the people leaving said it was a bit pricey, but worth it. I do remember a mickey d's about five minutes form the baseball field where I will spend most of my time.

    Dorm Life

I have not started my term yet but I will be staying off campus anyways.

    Academic Rigor

SPSU is very hands on. During my visit I got to walk in on some classes and I saw how hands on everything is. It is nothing like high school. There is an actual challenge now.

    Tips for prospective students

Leave all your childish antics at whatever high school you are coming from. Your're first visit here will prove to you that this is a school full of teachers who want to see you succeed. Come with a grown up attitude and save most of the partying for breaks and graduation when you have the freedom to do ANYTHING you want.

    In three sentences

SPSU has a vibe that makes me feel at home. Everyone (staff included) is so helpful and friendly. The teachers act so excited about the visiting students they meet, feels like they really love their jobs.

    What to do for fun

frisbee on campus, billiard, ping pong, in-door swimming poor, weight room, game lab, the student center has 2 big tv that student can bring their game consoles in and hook up with the screen to play in between classes.

    Food and Dining

spsu has their dinning hall that open everyday for students. to be honest i have never ate there. there are couple of places around campus that serve breakfast and lunch. i had some deli at the j-building before, it is very convenient for me or any student that have 4 classes back to back and don't want to get off campus to look for food.

    Dorm Life

i live off campus, so i can't say much. but the school just built some new dorms, and i heard it is really nice.

    Academic Rigor

i am studying mechatronics engineering, so the work loads could be a little much to handle time to time. but as long as you put the effort to do your homework, readings, prepare for class and test on time, then it is a rewarding experience; because you will learn many interesting topics about math, science and technology and finally seeing them coming together to explain how everything works around us.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students should talk to their adviser of the major that they interested in as soon as possible because it will save them time and money in the end. they might think this one major will get them the job that they want, but sometimes by talking to the adviser they will discovery something about themselves or about some other majors that would suit them better.

    In three sentences

southern polytechnic state university (spsu) is well known for their architect, engineering and computer science programs. the school has small teacher-to-student ratio, so there is more human connection than others big university. students learn to experience and participate in hand-on projects to learn concepts and skills.

    Campus Safety

being next to two major roads and small enough for that to mean something, there are rarely any threats to security on campus. the few times there have been threats, they have been dealt with in a satisfactorily expedient manor without the campus police feeling the need to treat every visitor and student like a criminal.

    Clubs and Activities

clubs tend to be good at organization and there are many of them on campus with a variety of foci. many club leaders tend to get overly ambitious and exceed either their budget or their human resources, such is the way of adding power to youth.

Great for these types of students

if you are practically-minded and self motivated, this school will treat you well. not recommended for those students seeking theory-heavy course work.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

each generation tends to manufacture their own traditions, so relevant locations to one group constitute a meaningless patch of dirt to the next guy down the line.

    Bang for the buck

if you're in-state, you can't beat the quality for the price. unless you're looking for a liberal arts or history degree. in that case, check out gsu.

    What to do for fun

everyone has to find their own thing for fun. if you like to party, you can hang out by the fraternity housing and find out who's throwing something soon, or you can grab a couple people you know and have them invite their friends and so on. there's a myriad of clubs on campus that are always looking for new recruits and things to do. the campus in nice enough or just walk if you enjoy that. it is always possible to find someone to strike up a session of just about any game you can think of, and, most likely, a few you've never heard of.

    Food and Dining

generally, the food costs too much, but isn't bad for what it is. most people recommend the burrito place near the upperclassman housing as the most affordable place to eat on campus.

    Dorm Life

the dorm community is open, friendly, and welcoming, but is a non-ideal situation for those who like to study in there rooms and comes attached to an over-priced meal plan. the apartments available to sophomores and up, while having higher rent, have kitchens, so there's no need of the meal plans. tip: get together with people you know for the apartment; it's much nicer to come home to three of your closest friends and cook dinner together before inviting some friends over to start off the weekend, than to come back to a place where everyone is always in their bedroom.

    Academic Rigor

some classes are very difficult, but your actual mileage will vary greatly based on major and how practically-minded you are. if you always have a practical reasoning, most classes for most majors will be easier. if you often have little to no reasoning for an action or production, you will likely struggle with some classes.

    Tips for prospective students

if you want to be prepared for the work force as soon as you graduate, southern poly is a good plan. the industry-focused course material and focus on practical apliacation of concepts in upper level courses means graduates ready to work immediately. also, the meal plan is overpriced; if you can, live in the apartments or off campus and get food from the grocery store. there are several nearby.

    In three sentences

the courses at southern poly tend to hold back from the finer details of theory to the benefit of practical application. the campus is a great place to walk, if a bit boring on occasion. there is a great bit of diversity in the population of the campus as a whole; though sometimes this is less true of individual majors, anyone can find a group to hang with.

Southern Polytechnic State is the best choice for me. If you are someone who wants to learn through hands on application, SPSU is the school for you too. The professors here are here to help you succeed at learning, and are available to you through one-on-one aid more than other colleges. Overall, SPSU is not only a place where learning is encouraged, but enjoyable as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your homework!! Professors do not assign this for their health, they do it to help you gain knowledge within the course. Also, go and see your professors. Even if you don't need help, it's great to build relationships with your professors, especially those within your field of study.

    Bang for the buck

For the price, Southern Poly is a great education for a great price. You may pay a bit for books, but that's the same at any college. If you live within the state of Georgia and you earn the HOPE Scholarship, your tuition plus books will be around $700. For the state of this economy, SPSU provides the best of education for the lowest of price.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Southern Poly. The campus is very condensed, meaning you are not walking far to any of your classes. The staff at SPSU is friendly and welcoming and the professors of Southern Poly are there to not only help you with your studies, but also to help you with life as well.

    Am learning a lot

You will learn so much just within the first few semesters of being here. I have learned a lot within my field of study, especially just in taking my core classes. Your professors want you to succeed not only in their classes, but also in your career as well.

    Hard Working

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come in expecting to get an A in every course. That probably won't happen. The classes are tough, so expect to work hard.

    Bang for the buck

The school has quality education for a low price. Just because it isn't as expensive as some other colleges doesn't mean that the education is sub-par. Trust me, it's not.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is very nice and located in a beautiful city. It is only 15 minutes from Atlanta which is very nice for those that like to go out into the city. There aren't many disturbances here, just the occasional fire alarm, but that isn't even that bad.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are tough enough to keep you challenged, but not so tough that you will get left behind easily. Most professors work at a pretty decent pace.

Great for these types of students

Many teachers don't care about attendance. They are just here to help you. For students that like the environment of a small quite campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Come and have fun. You have to make college fun find ways to entertain yourself and make friends. Work can get you busy but try to get it out of the way so that you can also have time to enjoy your college life.

    Bang for the buck

The school doesn't cost you arm and an leg it is pretty affordable. They have computer labs that anyone can go into. They architecture program has access to large plotters that are free to print the only thing is you have to bring in your own paper which I still think it is pretty good.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy being here. It is a great school and it has been growing a lot. They have improved in many things. They always try to have events to have the students come out and have some fun and meet new people around the campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am in the architecture program and I am definitely learning a lot. Many come into the program not knowing what to expect. This school is full of learning opportunities and since the classes are smaller students get the one on one experience with the professors. I feel like I've learned a lot more here then I ever learned in high school.

The teachers make the perspective students versatile. There are drill teachers for people who need way too much help and there are teachers who don't mandate attendance or homework for the students who just want the option of help. I'd actually like to see more artists here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you know what you like to do for fun then you can make any environment fun. Enjoy yourself, do your work ahead of time so you can eliminate stuff you have to do later.

    Bang for the buck

You learn what you came here for and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. As an upperclassman you can use the hi-tech campus labs and work benches for personal work...sadly freshman don't see the better labs unless they are on one of the competition teams like robotics or any of the many automotive teams.

    Am enjoying being here

Social life is weak here unless you are somewhat of a nerd. At any given moment if you know the numbers of about 4 people here, you can start any form of video game tournament, jam session (if you play an instrument), or movie night. I'm relatively social so I found that out first semester.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are decent and the labs are annoyingly tedious. Almost everyday I find some point of reference for what I just learned and that makes me remember it. I learned about building and programming solid state micro controllers and then i saw one in a V-TEC engine and it took me maybe 3 hours to take the limiter off of it.
