Categories Comments Academic Rigor As expected, the course load here is dependent on the major that the student chooses as well as what the student chooses to do regarding extracurricular activities. The staff and faculty here are of the most helpful I have encountered and do well to make me feel supported and encouraged. Even though the faculty does not lighten the course load or make it easier, the difficulty level of all the courses really do well to make sure students retain the information in the most engaging way possible. There are a myriad of resources to help students get better in the courses they struggle with and the learning environment really encourages a mindset that can proliferate an expanse of knowledge unlike any other. I have personally loved being a part of a community that supports me the way St Ed's does and would encourage as many people as possible to obtain a liberal arts education at this college.
Food and Dining The food is not terrible and actually is quite good sometimes however it is a bit overpriced and there is not a lot of variety after having it for weeks on end. The on campus coffee shops are quite convenient at times however those are even more expensive than the cafeterias on campus. They do however provide a wonderful space for social life and studying, if you're into that kind of environment for studying.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Literally the best people ever. I lost my wallet once and called the UPD line to report it missing. Within 30 minutes someone had turned it into an officer, who called me and came to where I was on campus to give it to me. If you have any kind of emergency (or non-emergency) you can call them or message them through the app with issues.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life on campus.
Clubs and Activities While there is always a lot going on, it is easy to miss activities if you aren't really paying attention. Because it is a small university, some of the clubs are smaller.
Great for these types of students Students who aren't completely sure with what they want as a career. The professors and admin and the classes help you understand this and work with you to develop goals for your future. If you are aware of your career goal, there are endless opportunities to find internships or jobs or do research with professors who want to help you succeed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a University seal on campus that people avoid walking on. You can rub Father Sorin's nose (outside the library) for good luck on a test or finals. Fireworks before the fall semester.
Bang for the buck While St. Edward's is very expensive, the scholarships offered are unparalleled. If it weren't for the exceptional scholarship offered to me (based on both financial need AND academic performance) I could not be at such a great college. Don't let the cost of the tuition deter you from applying, they WILL help you financially, especially if you are expressing interest in attending.
What to do for fun Music festivals, Alamo draft house, Zilker Park, 6th street, endless restaurant options... the list goes on and on. While Austin is a busy city, it is not hard to find places to have fun and not feel like you are crowded.
Food and Dining The food, while not the absolute best, is prepared how upon your request. (Ex. an omelet bar in the mornings, a grill for lunch and dinner) aside from the traditional cafeteria meal, these two options allow you to order what you want and have some say in how it is prepared.
Dorm Life The Villiage (Hunt and LeMans) by far have the largest dorms. Don't live alone! Learning to live with people is so helpful and you will create lifelong friendships with the people living near you.
Academic Rigor Because it is a Liberal Arts University, there is a lot of reading and writing, regardless of your major. This ends up being SO BENEFICIAL in the long run. You will be grateful for the required writing courses. Professors expect the best from you, and because they will know your face and name, they will reach out to you if they notice differences in your performance.
Tips for prospective students Come tour the campus! While here, stop and ask people for their opinions and their experiences as a student or professor. I knew I wanted to attend this University after sitting in on a lecture and experiencing the classroom.
In three sentences I cannot say enough great things about St. Edward's. Every staff member and advisor is dedicated to helping you succeed. The personability and small class sizes ensure that you aren't a number, but a student.

Tips for prospective students Apply early. Scholarships are definitely your friend. Tour the campus!!

In three sentences St Edward's has the most caring and amazing professors. It is a close-knit community that is mostly good, but can be bad (depending on how you choose to live). Everyone is committed to something and it's easy to get involved--on-campus or off.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is absent from St. Edwards, and most students will agree that they want to keep it that way. We pride ourselves on not being involved in Greek life, and in my experiences I believe as a community we are stronger for it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It makes me cringe to see anyone walk across our seal (located in the center of campus) because it is a tradition to walk around it. The reason most people fear touching the seal is because of the curse it holds. Any student that walks across the seal has never been able to finish the academic year nor graduate.
What to do for fun St. Edwards is in Austin, Texas so there is plenty to do off campus. Most students enjoy the nightlife Austin has to offer Thursday through Sunday. There are also many opportunities for outdoor adventures as well as casual dining and shopping along South Congress and the drag, and St. Edwards is right in the middle of it all.
Food and Dining The food on campus is very expensive if you do not have any meal plan, but the food is a lot more healthy and appetizing than most of the other state schools I have visited. The only negative I would present is the inability of some of the kitchen staff to cook any meat all the way. There have been many times where I have received an uncooked piece of chicken or beef, but I believe this might be due to the cooks feeling rushed. Overall the food is delicious.
Dorm Life Dorm life is hard to explain. Specific dorms offer specific experiences. The hall I stayed in freshman year provided me with many friendships and precious memories that I will always cherish.
Academic Rigor The work load of any major can become overwhelming compared to state schools, but the unique opportunities and services St. Edwards offer in conjunction help alleviate the stress.
In three sentences Saint Edwards provides a diverse cultural atmosphere that allows for a more unique growth throughout the college experience. The university is smaller than most providing students with a more intimate relationships with fellow students and staff. The professors at St. Edwards are invaluable, and go out of their way to help their students understand the material being discussed.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Austin is a great city with lots of things to do such as concerts, going to parks, or just walking around downtown and south congress. St. Edwards us located on south congress which is a street with lots of shops and a nice place to go eat or walk down.
Food and Dining There are two dining halls on campus and a small restaurant. The food is pretty good and they give lots of options such as vegetarian, salad bars, and lines with different styles of food.
Dorm Life There are five different dorm options at different price ranges. I live in one of the more expensive but it is really well kept and clean. There are places to socialize and study. The rooms are comfortable and you can definitely make it more homey by decorating. You are able to meet many new people in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Some classes are harder than others, but they do require a lot of work and attending class. Being an art major i have a lot of fun projects, but they do consume a lot of time and effort. Writing is a big part of the curriculum.
Tips for prospective students This school is a writing school and so spending lots of time on your papers is important. Make sure you go to class, beaus missing one class can leave you missing a lot of information. Overall have fun and enjoy living in Austin!
In three sentences I think that St.Edwards contains great programs for students and is full of diverse people. The campus is small and so it isn't very overwhelming. You feel comfortable and welcome and although we are small there is definitely a lot of school spirit.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are police cars who monitor the streets at all times.
Greek Life There is not really a greek life in St.Edward's however if you do want to join greek life I have been told that you can join them at UT.
Clubs and Activities So many activities you can do and so many more clubs you can join and if they don't have a club you want to join you can definitely make it. You just have to be able to get people to join.
Great for these types of students Great for the type of school who likes small campuses. That likes to know the professors one on one.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They buildings are said to be haunted by the people who have tragically died there.
Bang for the buck The school is pretty expensive but totally worth it. They are an internationally recognized school. You have so many options to study abroad. As well as meet new people from all over the world.
What to do for fun Theres plenty you can do. You can go downtown and enjoy what ever events Austin has to offer on those days. You can go for hikes and runs on campus or out as well.
Food and Dining The food is great here. There are many places you can go to eat.
Dorm Life Everyone seems nice and you get to meet so many people if you are willing to go and interact with them.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard but manageable if you look for help when need it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in everything and anything you can it will be worth it. You meet so many people this way.
In three sentences Culturally diverse environment. Professors are easy to talk to outside of class. Everyone is willing to help you if you just ask.

What to do for fun Nightlife, outdoor activities, shopping
Food and Dining Expensive but many different options including organics and local food. Jo's coffee shop is also included in the meal plan and provides many options for delicious drinks and food.
Dorm Life I did not live in dorm life.
Academic Rigor It is not easy. Most classes require a lot of writing, especially Capstone. It is crucial that you are a good writer.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you realized the tuition will increase at a rate higher than current inflation. Don't go if you can't afford it!
In three sentences Open minded school that helps students grow academically.

Greek Life It is more for the ones who want to learn but learn as a group.
Clubs and Activities As a NCAA II school, it is very competitive as well as clubs fit for anyone.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to feel welcomed and be themselves.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do not step on the st. Edward's floor, it is tradition that if stepped on, one will not graduate in 4 years.
Bang for the buck It is a private school so it is more pricey, but at the end it feels worth it.
What to do for fun Literally anything, they have so many things so that anyone can feel comfortable.
Food and Dining The chef at the school is just a delight as well as amazing food.
Dorm Life Everyone was just wonderful, not a single person did I find accepted or denied friendship. It is truly a place to feel welcomed.
Academic Rigor With a only a few students to teacher, there is more time for education and are truly trying to teach you instead of just see you as a number.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus, it is the only way to truly understand the meaning of St. Edward's.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities The city is a great place to be in because there are a variety of things to do. You can go run, eat, shop, row a boat, dance, bowl, and plenty of other activities. If you want to stay on campus, there are a variety of clubs and activities to get involved in. A college counselor gave me a sheet that had a plethora of things to do. I was speechless. Overall, it is amazing!
Great for these types of students It is great for the type of student that wants a small campus feel. If you like small classes where you are known and are able to communicate to your teacher this is the place for you. They have classes that are less than 20 students per class. If you want a environment that is very relaxed and quiet, St. Edwards can also offer that.
Bang for the buck Although this is an expensive campus, it is worth it! I have researched St. Edward's holistically and it has the academic classes that are well worth your money. They are ranked #15 in the west which is pretty good! The city is also are great place to be in because there are a variety of things to do. If you want to stay on campus, there are a variety of clubs and activities to get involved in. A college counselor gave me a sheet that had a plethora of things to do. I was speechless. Overall, it is amazing!
Food and Dining After visiting campus, I realized that I would never go hungry! If you cannot find something to eat on campus you can definitely find something near by. Literally a walk away!
Dorm Life Dorms are small or large depending on where you live. My rational is that you will not be spending all your time in a dorm so it is okay if you pick one that is not that fabulous. The dorms enough space for two people to not feel smothered which is nice. There is a space to socialize with friends with a game room and kitchen to cook for you or your friends.
Academic Rigor St. Edwards does supply classes to it students that will challenge them. They want to make sure that their students to whatever they can to be successful, so they offer a lot of resources that will help you do that.

Great for these types of students It is a great place for any type of student. There is a large amount of diversity, so no student would feel uncomfortable,
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are not any unusual traditions they have as far as I am aware.
Bang for the buck Although it is a more expensive college, I feel that St. Edward's gives you so much more for your money since everything is more personal than it would be in a large public college like U.T.
What to do for fun There are multiple events that happen on campus, from sports to club events. There are numerous ways to get involved with different clubs, since there are numerous to choose from.
Food and Dining The food on campus is relatively expensive, but it is much better than any high school's cafeteria. There are cheap lunch items though for those on a budget.
Dorm Life I am a commuter, so I do not live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor Most classes are rigorous in some way. If you do not stay on top of your courses, there is a large possibility of failure. Staying on top of your courses is extremely important.

Categories Comments Campus Safety St. Edwardâ??s University has a community policy to maintain safety. These guidelines are provided in the education are made aware to students and are routinely administered by officers. St. Edwardâ??s has a full service police agency that serves the universityâ??s needs 24/7 and all officers are fully licensed by the state of Texas with complete law enforcement powers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are several quirky traditions at St. Edwardâ??s University. First off, one very important tradition students MUST follow is walking around the university seal in honor of the founders and their sacrifices. Secondly, there is Waffleopolis, when students gather on the hilltop to celebrate the beginning of semesters with waffles and ice cream. Lastly, during finals week of each fall and spring term, students celebrate with a midnight breakfast.
Food and Dining Students are given many choices where to eat on campus. Students living in the residence halls are offered two dining plans each at two different pricing levels. Meal cards allow full dining across campus and to a variety of local restaurants. All meal plans are priced per semester and all unused funds are automatically rolled over from the fall to spring semesters. Students are offered 6 different café choices around campus and all food is made from scratch.
Dorm Life At St. Edwardâ??s University students are offered the choice of living with others who share the same interests resulting in friendships, networking among students, a heightened education study and a deeper level of respect for others. In these LLCs (Living Learning Communities) collaborative students take one or two courses together and participate in like- activities. In addition to living among those who share similar interests, students at St. Edwardâ??s are surround by prospective people from over 40 countries who are there to learn the in the same fashion as you and are there to develop a higher global perspective.
Academic Rigor All class subjects at St. Edwardâ??s University are taught to give students a global perspective of the problems we face in our community and broaden their understandings of how to face these problems. Students are expected to think critically about their study choices and are faced with a higher education standard of learning preparing them to maintain a studious and open- minded mentality. There are programs of all sorts that help students prepare themselves for academic life at St. Edwardâ??s. There is an Academic Exploration Program designed to help students make a proper thought out choice of major that way students have a previous idea of what courses are involved in their selected major. There are special programs designed for students to desire study abroad and develop a deeper global comprehension of our world and the struggles we face today.
Tips for prospective students Do your research on the schools that best offer what you are looking for in an institution. Research pays off when learning about institutions because you may not want to attend a specific college for some odd small reason. Small schools, such as St. Edwardâ??s University provide students with a personal but global learning style that induces students the desire to learn and discover of new horizons from people of different countries.
In three sentences The campus is local to the city and has a beautiful panoramic view of Downtown Austin. The student to professor ratio is 1 to 14 allowing classroom learning and professor interaction to be more personal. Categories Comments Campus Safety I have not witnessed any particular act of violence and have always felt safe on campus even when trekking back from a late night study session.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for the athletic, the computer whizzes, and people just looking to have a great time. There are so many options for those who also want to find ways to give back to the community.
Great for these types of students Great for people who are interested in expressing themselves and want to be respected for who they really are.
Bang for the buck It is worth it. College is supposed to be this experience that you will never forget and at St. Ed's it will be.
What to do for fun St. Ed's offers so many clubs and puts on so many events. But one of the greatest draws to the university is the location. The college is located right down town not more than a five minute drive to the infamous sixth street or Barton springs which is a great place to go for a swim.
Food and Dining The food offered here is excellent. It is well prepared, nutritious and there is a great variety.
Dorm Life I recommend every student spend one year in the dorms. The people you meet and become close to are friends that you'll keep for a long time. It is a great experience and a lot of fun.
Academic Rigor The curriculum is difficult, but rewarding. It is not so much the level of difficulty but learning how to manage your time.
Tips for prospective students 1) Make friends with upperclassmen. They can help steer you in the right direction and inform you on the best professors to take. 2) Join a club. It is a great way to meet new people and discover things that interest you. 3) Communicate with your professors. They will help you in anyway they can.
In three sentences St. Ed's is a great place to learn and be accepted by your peers. It is small institution which means you have one-on-one access to your professors. Above all nearly everyone is on scholarship, they are easy to attain and your financial aid advisor is always there to help.

Dorm Life Everyone is very friendly and accepting of each other. It's very easy to make friends.
Academic Rigor The school is best known for their academics. The classes are challenging, but very stimulating. Students are involved and engaged in the lesson.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and talk to current students there to see if it really is the best option for you. They have a Scholar Weekend in February or March where you can stay in the dorms and really experience campus life. It's a great way to meet prospective students and see what life on campus is like.
In three sentences The faculty, staff, and students there are all very willing to help you. They really make you feel important and a part of their family. They go out of their way to make sure everyone feels welcome and recieves the assistance and guidance that best meets their needs.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are lots of things to do for fun. Resident Assistants frequently put on residence hall programs. There is a fitness center, swimming pool, and outdoor track. There are also many events that take place on campus, but you have to be keen in discovering them. Read the Student E-News email each week as well as read the bulletin boards to find out on-campus events taking place. There are many things to do off campus because St. Edward's is located in Austin, TX- a very happening city. Lot's of live music, outdoor activities (hiking, swimming, running), and entertainment options (movies, concerts, restaurants) are available. Also, check out the bats under the Congress Ave bridge.
Food and Dining There are three cafeterias: The Huddle (Tex-med and BBQ), Hunt Hall Cafe (cafeteria, coffee shop, convenience store), and South Congress Market (Cafeteria). There are also two Jo's coffee shops on campus, and another coffee shop may be added to the new library that will open in fall 2013. Students may tire of the menu after living on campus, but there are many off campus food options close by, which is why I give four stars.
Dorm Life Dorm rooms are available to all students, but the longer you have been at St. Edward's the harder it is to get housing on campus. On campus housing is very convenient because you do not need to commute to get to class, you always have access to study resources such as the library or computer labs, and it is easier to find professors if live on campus.
Academic Rigor I think I am receiving a quality education. Courses are tough, and success depends on the professor. Generally, if you do your homework, keep up with readings, and visit the professor during office hours to clarify difficult topics, you should be in good shape to succeed.
Tips for prospective students St. Edward's is very generous in terms of financial aid, and there are many different programs you can apply to within the school. There is a College Assisted Migrant Program (CAMP), Living Learning Communities, an Honors program, as well as other programs. Apply for as many programs as you are eligible for to expand your future opportunities.
In three sentences St. Edward's University is a great college where students learn from faculty who are passionate about teaching. Professors really want their students to succeed, and are very accessible to the students. Class sizes are small, and your professor will know you by name.

In three sentences Great school with awesome students and staff. A bit expensive for those not wanting to spend the money, because it's worth it, but not that much. Great location.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The library is awesome. In addition they have a nice gym that all students have access to. School is not far from the downtown area which is also a nice perk.
Food and Dining They have so many meal options. Multiple cafeterias! The food is made on the spot when you ask for it, and always fresh. Great coffee shops too.
Dorm Life I only had a dorm for awhile but they are very nice. The Dorms are pretty spacious. And you share bathrooms but only with like 2 people.
Academic Rigor You get your money's worth. Many of the teachers there have been teaching for years and years! So they are good at what they do and have excellent classes they have worked on and constantly improved for years and years.
Tips for prospective students A strong purpose statement is good for these guys. Also I would suggest taking basic classes at a community college first, because this school is expensive!
In three sentences I went to this school for their psychology program and I feel that was an excellent decision. The small classes made the transition from community college to this school really awesome. The teachers care very much about their students here.

Food and Dining Bon Appetite has their good and bad days, but I feel like the choices are what are more important, and there is a lot of choices.
Dorm Life TERESA ALL THE WAY! No, but seriously I love the dorm life!
Academic Rigor All depends on your major of course, some classes can be hard others remind you of a high school class, but either way. I think the education is excellent.
Tips for prospective students Apply for financial aid, they give you a lot. Don't be afraid to come tour the school and talk to the students, I know I love it!
In three sentences St. Edward's University is a diverse university that has a global perspective for students who wish to be immersed in the ever-changing world. Not only is it located near Austin, a growing prosperous city, but it is located just far enough to be unique with it's own tradition and culture. Categories Comments Campus Safety UPD is always on duty whenever you need them.
Greek Life Thankfully, we don't have a Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities I joined Rowing Club last semester and fell in love with the team and the sport. There's something for everybody!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You can't step on the University Seal or you have the worst of luck. You'll always find students walking around it.
What to do for fun You can always go explore Austin. Go paddle boarding or visit museums.
Food and Dining St. Ed's has WONDERFUL food. It's all organic and provides many options for those who choose a vegetarian or gluten free diet.
Dorm Life I love my dorm this year. Granted, I will be living off-campus next semester, I highly recommend living on-campus your first year.
Academic Rigor It's difficult but it's definitely doable. The classroom sizes are small enough to have one on one discussions with professors or other classmates.
Tips for prospective students Definitely get involved in the school. It's easy to join organizations and sign up for events. It's a great way to meet people and explore what you want to do.
In three sentences St. Edward's University is a haven on a hill. It's a loving community of people who are accepting of every talent and quality in a person. It's a place where anyone can feel they belong.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is stuff like events, Austin and 6th street are only a short way away, and there is always something going on over there.
Food and Dining The food is sustainable, and organic, and they cater to those with food allergies.
Dorm Life The dorms and student apartments are new and beautiful, except for Theresa Hall, which is a bit scary. I have heard stories of cockroaches in dorm rooms and general uncleanliness surrounding that dorm facility.
Academic Rigor The general education courses are not too difficult, although they are plentiful. It is a good, well-rounded education.
Tips for prospective students You should apply for all the scholarships you can, and hound your financial aid adviser for scholarship opportunities, because they are out there, and can greatly reduce the cost that you are expected to pay each semester for your education.
In three sentences St. Edward's is a wonderful small University fit for students who would like to feel like they are important, and remembered at their school. It has a small music building that is in desperate need of renovation, but beautiful science, math, and photography, and behavioral science facilities. This University is based on a Catholic heritage, but it does a nice job of not making you hyper aware of that fact.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is the UPD (University Police Department) that you get to meet in orientation and have their number to ensure you have them at your side throughout your experiences on campus. They are always around and you have them at your finger tips-throughout my time here I haven't seen any major safety issues, it is a very secure campus.
What to do for fun There are many different things to do around campus. If you enjoy exercising or just chilling on the computers. There are numerous labs around campus that are open 24 hrs and to all students. There are also just quiet places to sit and relax; for example the city line you see while sitting in the main lawn in front of the building; the feeling you get is like nothing else.
Food and Dining St. Edward's has many different places to pick up food, it is very comfortable, and good. They cook the food as you order it. The dining areas are also comfortable to be in whether you like being with a lot of people in a quiet study place St. Edward's is the place for you to be at.
Dorm Life I don't personally live on campus, but I have many friends that talk about the different activities that go on for the people that live on campus. They have dorms all around campus, and RAs to keep the dorms in order. This is helpful for students to have a relationship that helps them throughout college-great way to build relationships.
Academic Rigor The academics here are great, they have really been eye opening on any given subject. It is different from other colleges/universities because of the fact that there is that one on one personal relationship you get here versus anywhere else you go. That is what I cherish about this school, plus the fact that there is amazing professors with Ph.Ds in any given subject that they teach.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering St. Edward's University I would be glad to recommend you meet with an admission counselor in your application process. Once you start here you have to keep responsible to 'not be a stranger' with your academic counselor-they really are helpful! Lastly, don't be a stranger, you have to be open to meeting new people this is because this campus seems really 'close knit' and you get to be close to a lot of people.
In three sentences The personal relationships are like no other; you can walk around campus and run into a professor from a previous semester and they know your name. The classes are out of this world: you have the ability for one on one with either a professor or a senior assistant to help you throughout the semester. Not to forget that the campus is beautiful, we really are on the hilltop.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is safe. Campus security is visible.
Clubs and Activities There are many activities to choose from.
Bang for the buck The campus sits on top of a hill and the view of Austin is beautiful.
What to do for fun The campus offers a great deal of social opportunities. Austin is also an exciting city. There is a lot to do both on and off the campus.
Food and Dining Food is about 3.
Dorm Life Dorm life is like any other college. However, there is more monitoring due to the size of the university.
Academic Rigor St. Edward's academic rigor is between a 4 and 5.
Tips for prospective students St. Edward's is a small school that focuses on academics and servitude. Social life at St. Edwards is focused around serving others in a variety of service projects. If you are of the giving spirit and like an atmosphere that thrives on academics, then apply to attend St. Edward's University.
In three sentences St. Edward's is a top school that has a very loving and open educational community. The staff and students are very diverse. St. Edward's staff wants all students to succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safe campus.
Greek Life There is no greek life on our campus.
Clubs and Activities There is a lot of diversity among clubs and you can pretty much make any club you want if they don't already offer it. There are a number of club sports and NCAA teams.
Great for these types of students There are a bunch of artsy people and people who are really passionate about the environment. Not a school for football people (there is no team).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The big red doors are the image of the campus and if you walk out them you can see the entire Austin skyline.
Bang for the buck It's pretty pricey but they usually give you a lot of scholarships.
What to do for fun It is in Austin which is such a wonderful city, there is always something to do.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good. Not perfect but hey, it's cafeteria food.
Dorm Life There are a number of good dorms to choose from. The best being Teresa hall because it has a good social life.
Academic Rigor General education classes are not too challenging. However the classes for math and natural science are very challenging but not impossible.
Tips for prospective students If you don't want a major in either: biology, psychology, communication, graphic design, art, environment, or global studies. I suggest looking at other schools because those are pretty much what you are going to get.
In three sentences St. Edward's has a very beautiful and progressively sustainable campus with not a whole bunch of students. Unfortunately there is not a lot of diversity within the majors you have to choose from. But having the small class numbers makes it easy to fit in and seek help from professors.

Clubs and Activities There is alot of activities you can think of at St. Edward's... except for football... of course:/ But I always gt free shirts!
Bang for the buck Though this school is a private school and is very expensive, I am glad that my money has went toward St. Edward's. I know that I am getting a great education and am recieving every learning experience to its highest potential!
Food and Dining The ingredients of most of the food is grown within 150 miles of the school... Talk about healthy!
Dorm Life I stayed in the Renovated Teresa Hall and the reason I give this rating is because my roommate and I happened to get the oneee room with a private bathroom! Lucky Us(: Plus, I loveeee my roommate! We will be best friends forever!
Academic Rigor The small classes are extremely the reason for the 5 stars! I have been able to get one on one with my teacher and it does feel great for all of my teachers to know me by name!
Tips for prospective students Don't hesitate! Visit NOW! I took an individual visit and had the chance to stay over night with a current student. It was the best choice of my life! I was able to get the real feel of what it would be like to go here! So come on down to the Hilltop!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is small enough for everything to be easily looked after and campus security makes their presence very known. There is no point or place on campus that does not feel secure.
Greek Life Greek Life is almost non-existent on this campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs all over the place but they make it a point to ensure they are not constantly in your face or distracting from what is important.
Great for these types of students It is perfect for Students who are ready to work with few distractions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Visitor parking is usually available and always free, so you can potentially get away with never having to buy a parking pass as long as you are willing to walk. There is also a plethora of activities just off campus from bars to strip clubs!
Bang for the buck This school offers so much and there are so many people willing and able to help you personally, that the money you spend is easily justified. The library alone is beyond impressive.
What to do for fun There are softball games and numerous student activities. It really depends on your interests and you willingness to search for like minded peers.
Food and Dining The options for dining are varied and affordable.
Dorm Life Though I do not live in the dorms, I can see that dorm life would not be quite as impressive as living on a larger campus. There is simply not as much to do. But this would also ensure fewer distraction from school work.
Academic Rigor The academics are challenging and thought provoking. Each class I have taken taught me something, not only about the subject, but about myself as well.
Tips for prospective students Expect to spend a significant amount of money, but if you take advantage of all that is offered, it will be well worth it.
In three sentences Renowned enough to be proud of your degree. Small enough to get the attention you need. Offers enough to help you well beyond your graduation day.

Categories Comments Greek Life No Greek Life.
Great for these types of students Great for students who think of themselves as paving the way in fashion, the world, music, and whatever else hipsters like.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a seal on the ground that you must never walk on, but walk all the way around it. There are also great ghosts stories about many of our halls.
Bang for the buck The high tuition pays for the close relationship you have with your professors and the time they spend actually helping you get somewhere in life. That's why you're going to college, right?
What to do for fun Austin is the live music capital of the world, so go see concerts! They also have many parks and recreational places to get active.
Food and Dining Our caterer, Bon Appetit, offers cuisine from classic salads to sushi. Every day they have new items on the menu, as well as the comfort foods.
Dorm Life The best part about going to college is living on your own and making great friendships in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Overall, every class requires you to write an essay or smaller papers throughout the semester. So be prepared to write!
Tips for prospective students When applying for living, check Hunt LeMans! It is the newest dormitory on campus and has a cafeteria conveniently located on the first floor. Meeting new people is scary, but being a part of a club or an intramural sport.
In three sentences St. Edward's has a very small faculty and campus that supports every student's success in their education. With professor/student ratio of 1/20, you get to know your professor one on one, as well as take advantage of a free writing center operated from our rhetoric professors. Not only is St. Edward's a great place to go, but Austin, Texas makes the decision to apply here that much easier.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police is very friendly and wont mind escorting the students at night when needed.
Greek Life We are sister and brother to the UT greek life.
Clubs and Activities We have everything except a football team.
Great for these types of students This campus is actually for all types of students. There is no specific type of student on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We open up the year with the great Hillfest which includes fireworks, games and raffles on our main lawn. Many vendors come give free food and free activities. Since we dont have a football team, for our homecoming it is about basketball and we have a casino night. It is our high class event where all students dress up.
What to do for fun There is always some sort of activity to do on campus. We have monthly festivals and lawn events.
Food and Dining Our food is great and very healthy.
Dorm Life I commute to the campus but my friends enjoy living on campus. They are not too small but not to big. Theres sufficient space for a person.
Academic Rigor The small classes make it a better learning environment. The work is hard but is easy if you dont procastinate and do it while your information is fresh. The faculty is always there to assist.
Tips for prospective students The best tip is to create a friendship with your professors because they are very helpful. Procastination is definitely not acceptable on campus.
In three sentences It is very liberal that allows students to be themselves. Faculty and staff are always around to help after class and office hours. It is like a community that works together.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UPD is awesome, you can't walk around campus without seeing them at least once. I always feel safe on campus, it's a little bubble.
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities There's a club for pretty much anything. Dancing (traditional, tap, belly, you name it), anything academic, cultural clubs, service, vegetarian food, cycling, watching tv...
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't step on the seal! We also have a goat (yeah, a real goat), a haunted main building, and the college is built on a dormant volcano
Bang for the buck It's pricey here. Really pricey. But if you go to all the events and get all the free t shirts and stuff, it tends to even out. Tons of free food on campus all the time.
What to do for fun South Congress Street with shops and food trailers Zilker Park Alamo Drafthouse (it's a Movie Tavern but better) especially the events like Master Pancakes and Quote-a-longs 6th Street, of course Barton Springs the Greenbelt Blazer Tag Schlitterbahn Seriously, anything you want to do within 1 hour's drive
Food and Dining Food is pricy, but fairly good. You get tired of it after about a year, but everyone has their favorites. Falafel Wednesday is awesome, and the baked goods are great, too.
Dorm Life Great dorms, they're huge and most are new or newly renovated. There are a lot of great programs, including hall olympics, where you compete based on residence hall. It is a bit pricy, though, and Residence Life is hard to deal with.
Academic Rigor Most departments have great classes, and you learn a lot. The psych department is lacking, and it's also one of the largest (go figure). Writing, religious studies, sciences, and global studies are all great programs.
Tips for prospective students The school is small, so don't come expecting huge classes. Make sure to make friends off campus, the drama can get annoying (like a big family). Professors are very open here, so don't be afraid to talk to them. Come here if you're looking for that personal touch.
In three sentences St. Eds is like home away from home. Everyone is very friendly, but everyone knows everyone. The academics are great in most areas, and you get a very rounded education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is up on the highest natural point in Austin so it is absolutely beautiful and has the most amazing view. Even so, it is still in Austin with a lot of home less people right down the street so i would not wander too far from campus at night, but if you stay mostly in the heart of it at night, you're safe. Campus Police are always around.
Greek Life NONE!
Clubs and Activities Tons! There is something for everyone
Great for these types of students Indie, Hipster, Fun, Outgoing, Open Minded, Dedicated to school, Friendly
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a campus seal you must walk around or you will fail school and lose your scholarships.
What to do for fun It's Austin, baby! Go down south congress during First Thursday ( the first thursday of every month). There are food vendors, people selling clothes, art, playing music. There is also Zilker Park, Barton Springs, and all the festivals downtown, all the time!
Food and Dining It was not very good my freshman year, but this year they are really picking it up. They are using better produce and having a wider variety. With all the places and choices, you'll never have to worry about starving.
Dorm Life Dorms are fun! They each have their own personality and style. There are RA's who make events for your dorm, so it is easy to make friends and have a good time. You make the best of it.
Academic Rigor It varies from class to class and teacher to teacher. Classes are not impossible and you can achieve the grade you want if you put in the effort, because the professors are accessible and there are study sessions.
Tips for prospective students Make sure it is the type of school you want and it has your major. Please come visit! Keep your grades up and apply for scholarships! They have a pretty good aid system.
In three sentences It is a good school for people who want the artsy Austin feel, who want the small school atmosphere, a good education, and personal, friendly vibe from students & professors. But if you are also looking for roaring school pride, St. Edward's is more laid back, as there is no greek life or football team.

What to do for fun Located only minutes from downtown Austin and is in the State capital. Plenty of activities: ACL, South by Southwest, Pecanfest
Tips for prospective students Considerate St. Edward's because it is located in a major city and it gives you a smaller college environment to learn in.
In three sentences Great campus with an atmosphere of learning and group bonding. Feel as if the staff is very personable and helpful to me. Athletics is going to be great and I have a passionate coach that I will be playing for.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Austin has TONS to do for fun! The location was probably my favorite part. Right down the street from soco st, and a very short car/bus ride away from the lake and barton creek.
Food and Dining I really enjoyed the food, a lot of people complained but it actually does have a nice variety and good healthier options.
Dorm Life Beautiful dorms except for the older ones. (Teresa and East)
Academic Rigor Like I said, not as challenging as it could have been- in a bad way. However, make sure you look into myedu before enrolling in any classes. Like every school, some teachers are just mean.
Tips for prospective students Focus on school and don't let the awe of college freedom or the party atmosphere distract you. Join a club that you find interesting. Explore Austin with friends. Buy concert tickets in advance.
In three sentences Beautiful campus with some really great teachers. I am transferring because it was not very challenging academically, and I felt that most students were just there to party. Also, student life is kind of a downer too.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Decent part of town, with great campus police, but every once in awhile I wish we had a fence around campus.
Greek Life None here, visit UT for some events if you can swing it though.
Clubs and Activities There are amazing student leaders who do awesome things with all sorts of ideas. Some of my favorite clubs include: Food Trailer Fanatics, Club Swimming, Rugby, Hillel Toppers, Multi-Cultural Leadership Board, Anime Club, Psi Fi (movies and books) club.
Great for these types of students Theatre students (our program is all encompassing and interactive). Green loving or vegetarian advocating students who really want to make a difference for the environment even living on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The club sports banquet StESPY awards were new this year, but a huge success. Every year Black Student Union hosts Night of Soul which brings out a large community. We also host Big Event with help from Campus Ministry which services the local Austin community thanks to support from SGA.
Bang for the buck Scholarships help a ton with St. Ed's and keep the bill collectors at bay (mostly).
What to do for fun The poetry scene in Austin is amazing. As many might know Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World and it deserves the title, shows every night of the week can keep you on your toes, but our festivals including Austin City Limits, South by Southwest and Reggaefest will simply blow your mind. Want a quieter day? Try out the Greenbelt or Lady Bird Lake for amazing canoeing, fishing or hiking!
Food and Dining Bon Appetit makes sure our meals are locally grown and sustainable and pretty tasty most of the time.
Dorm Life RA's are helpful and supportive. Our Living Learning Communities are top notch and a great way to make friends.
Academic Rigor You have to work hard here and do things right to get good grades. Small enough that if you are a star, you'll get your chance to shine.
Tips for prospective students Consider that a large quantity of students attend St. Ed's because it is in Austin. Our club sports program is fantastic, we send students to nationals on a regular basis and I think that makes up for the lack of Greek life.
In three sentences Excellent professors who will keep you engaged and question your understanding of the world around you. Sad state of transitioning with lot's of construction going on, hopefully they will make it more livable in the future though. Challenging course work and fantastic location, St. Edward's is part of Austin's South Congress district and nearby to downtown too!

Categories Comments Campus Safety On campus police are always around and always ready to respond to a call.
Greek Life No greek life, no houses or sororities. There are some fraternities but they are subject related, like for theater and business majors. The rugby and lacrosse men's teams serve as kinds of fraternities, but it isn't very important to St. Edward's students.
Clubs and Activities There a lot of clubs to get involved in, and the club team sports are very prevalent. Most people here participate in some type of sport, whether it be varsity, club, or IM.
Great for these types of students Hipsters and indie people fit right in here. Being stylish is pretty much the norm and there are a lot of pretty girls here. Everyone is tolerant, so any religion or race or sexual orientation is welcome and treated fairly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We're the hilltoppers. The school sits on top of a hill, so we are the Hilltoppers, pretty much a goat. But we play it off pretty well, and people are proud to represent this odd mascot.
Bang for the buck Its an expensive private school, but gives out good scholarships and aid, especially if you're a good student.
What to do for fun The school itself puts on some pretty good events throughout the year, but Austin itself has much more to offer. There's always something to do, somewhere to go, somewhere to eat. UT area is great for food and shopping options, and the nightlife is always hopping in downtown Austin. The music scene is huge here, and there are concerts year round. Public transportation is great, but a car is needed for other things, like going to the store for things you need. A grocery store is in walking distance from the school and is open 24 hours which is pretty great for students. Austin City Limits music festival is a popular even in Austin.
Food and Dining Food is pretty bland but the options are varied. There are no fast food places on campus really, but the Jo's coffee shops (2 on campus) are very popular for hanging out and getting a drink. There are 2 dining halls, one mainly used for lunch and the other for dinner. The food is pretty green and sustainable, and there is a salad bar and a snack bar (fries, burgers).
Dorm Life Dorm life is mandatory for freshmen, but after that, most students go to live in on campus apartments or off campus apartments because there is simply no room, and privacy and freedom are very much valued by sophomore year. The dorms are pretty expensive, and depending on which dorm you choose, you get more room or less room.
Academic Rigor To most students, academics matters. Grades for classes are given as straight grade letters, like A and B, no A- or B- for overall class grades. This is great because if you get all As for a semester, then you can have a 4.0 GPA, whereas at other schools the minus or plus makes or breaks the grade. Math and science classes here are pretty hard, because its a liberal arts school and the professors for the math classes aren't very good. You really have to study for certain classes, but its easy to know which classes and professors to take with the help of other students. After freshman year, studying hours increase by a lot if you care about your grades.
Tips for prospective students Come and visit and see the Austin area to make sure you like it. Also, make sure you want a small school. There isn't much school spirit and that can really make or break a college experience for some. Get ready for the expensive meal plan for the first year of your time here; its nice because its basically unlimited food, but its required of freshmen and completely over priced.
In three sentences The location of the school is what makes it awesome. Austin is a great city to go to college in and is close to other Texan cities like Dallas and San Antonio so road trips are easy! Another thing that makes it attractive is its small size, so you know you're getting personal attention and you're not just a number.

Categories Comments Campus Safety University Police patrols 24/7 and will even escort you if you would like. I feel very safe on our hilltop.
Greek Life The only Greek life is for law fraternities and such. They're all subject-based.
Clubs and Activities There are SO many clubs to join with a wide variety of interest points. You could even start one on your own if you don't find one that seems to suit you that is already established.
Great for these types of students SEU is in Austin, Texas which is very liberal and that transcends to campus. It's a good place to go because you'll always be accepted.
Bang for the buck It is very expensive to attend, just in tuition, not to mention books. However, you can get very individualized attention that you could not get at larger universities. In the end, the price is worth the education you get.
What to do for fun Campus Rec offers classes like Zumba, yoga, and cardio classes to enjoy. Student Life organizes many large events throughout the year that everyone is welcome to come enjoy. It's a gorgeous campus so it's fun just to take a walk with some friends.
Food and Dining All of the food is locally grown and organic. The meats are also carefully regulated. It's fresh and delicious!
Dorm Life SEU has very different dorms to choose from. There's one for everybody to feel comfortable in. I had the best dorm experince.
Academic Rigor The work is not at all easy, especially as a biology major. There are some classes that are easier, but I'd never describe as easy.
Tips for prospective students Apply for every opportunity that you can, especially in the sciences! Also, don't be afraid to go to professors' office hours. They are always very happy to help and if they get to know you well enough, they're good for writing recommendation letters later!
In three sentences SEU is a beautiful college campus with lots of diversity. The classes are small so you get to know your teachers and they get to know you.

Great for these types of students I find this school to be very diversed so if you are an older student like I am you will fit right in.
What to do for fun Meet school friends for dinner and drinks.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for small classes and more one on one with professor then this is the school.
In three sentences I have found my experience at St. Edward's very satisfying. I find the culture at the school to fit my every needs. The faculty is the best I have ever worked with in all my years of school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Don't rely on them to show up anytime soon, especially if they're changing shifts. APD might show up before they do.
Greek Life A few fraternities, but their basically just clubs. They don't have their own dorms or anything like that. Some just give you the title and that's it.
Clubs and Activities We don't have a football team...and we're in Texas...you tell me.
Great for these types of students Hippies, writers, philosophers, and just anyone who's a true liberal arts major at heart.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We are the school on the hilltop and our school has the typical castle-like look of the private schools. However, for being so old the only unusual tradition we have is to take our students on a ghost tour during their first week.
Bang for the buck When you say I go to college in Austin the automatic response is Oh to UT. You say, no, to St. Ed's. Half the people have heard of it, but that's about it. I honestly think $30,000 a year is hardly worth it. We're not even the best school in Texas. Go to UT: cheaper and it's got the prestige.
What to do for fun There are several on campus organizations, but student life makes it a little difficult sometimes to organize a good event (it takes money to pay for something big, but we can't ask for sponsors). The University Programming Board is also pretty good at coming up with events, such as Movies on the Lawn (we've previously had Inception, Toy Story 3, and Sherlock Holmes on a huge inflatable screen).
Food and Dining They don't know how to make business, so they force you to buy a meal plan regardless of whether you live on campus or not. And even though you have to pay out of your own pocket, if you have left over money they will not reimburse you, they'll just keep it (freshmen end up with about $1000 leftover). At first you think, oh so much to choose from!, and then you realize it's basically the same thing every day.
Dorm Life I liked the experience, but maybe it's because of the people I had around me. Teresa and East are the most depressing looking halls, but the environment is always hyped up. I also lived at the Casas. Probably the place where I had the most privacy. Nevertheless, I encourage to find an apt outside of school. Way cheaper. One semester at St. Ed's is a year's worth of rent anywhere else.
Academic Rigor I have taken classes in English Lit, Psych, Spanish, and Biology (hard time making up my mind). All the professors have been great, but the rigor does change from area to area. As a Spanish speaker I feel the program needs to be more difficult, but as a Bio student I truly recommend good time management to get all the reading done.
Tips for prospective students Try to get as much credit for basic requirements as you can outside of St. Edward's. Half (if not more) of your degree will be made up of these. St. Ed's doesn't have as many majors, so make sure we have more than one of the areas you're interested in, because if you don't like what we have, it will be difficult to have the credits you earn here count anywhere else for transfer.
In three sentences It's a beautiful campus with wonderful professors. However, it has terrible management if tuition keeps going up $1000 every year and they force us to pay for food we don't want (you have to pay the meal plan or you can't register). At least the professors work hard to get us the grants we need to improve and expand our programs.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel really safe walking on campus, especially in South Austin, even late at night which I have done countless times. The police are really nice about walking with you if you need someone and there are phones all over as well as they give you their number to keep on your cell in case of an emergency.
Greek Life The only thing about Greek Life is there are professional co-ed fraternities to join. We don't have any houses on campus or off.
Clubs and Activities We have a ton of clubs to join and we have an involvement fair every semester that you can check out. For the 2-3000 students, we have about 125 or so organizations ranging from Colleges Against Cancer to Fishing Club to Fencing Club to Delta Sigma Pi.
Great for these types of students Definitely great for Hipsters but also book smart, those who want a college education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a grotto that faces our sister school of Notre Dame. Near there is the best view of Austin, day or night. They do give out a lot of t-shirts so be prepared to get at least 10 t-shirts if not more. We have a Midnight Breakfast before finals each semester where there are activities to do as well as delicious food to eat so save some meal plan for that.
Bang for the buck I think it's a good bang for the buck. They do really well with financial aid which is very helpful for me especially.
What to do for fun You can always go downtown to Austin and check out the sights or go to Zilker Park. There are some museums as well and theater places. 6th street is pretty popular as well as Frat Row at UT for parties. St. Ed's does put on some things for entertainment but sometimes you do have to look.
Food and Dining The food and dining are alright but there are some limited options. If you are wanting to get some off-campus foods, you would have to walk quite a bit aways and most places don't stay open past midnight.
Dorm Life Dorm life was average for me. It was cool that we didn't have a curfew as long as the opposite gender wasn't in your room past midnight.
Academic Rigor I feel challenged at this school but if it is ever too hard, you can totally go to the professors and ask for help. They are available a lot and want to see you succeed.
Tips for prospective students Orientation is the best time to figure out what you want to bring to college as well as experience college life. Don't be afraid to make friends throughout the year because you have no idea who is going to stay your friend for the next couple of years.
In three sentences It is such a gorgeous place being my little Texan Ivy League School. The professors are amazing and the services truly help you out. The student body could handle some more males though because there are too many females.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our own UPD. 12 full fledged Austin PD officers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Greek Life There isn't a Greek life scene on campus. Students are allowed to go to UT and be apart of their Greek life if they wish.
Clubs and Activities There are over 90+ organizations on campus. I volunteer as a tour guide (hence why I know so much about the school). And if you can't find club for you, you can always make your own. Like the M.EA.T. club (Men Eating Animals Together) and the vegetarian club. lol
Great for these types of students All students. St. Ed's is Catholic but they don't require anyone to be Catholic or do anything Catholic. They don't require students to go to Mass or volunteer. Those things are incredibly available but it's up to the student. They only thing they have you do is take a single religious studies course or philosophy course. Easy and simple. And it could be anything, there's even a Harry Potter class... no joke.
What to do for fun There's always something going on on campus. Whether it's a sports event, huge movie showing, conferences, homecoming, watch fireworks, the dorm events, etc. And did I mention they're free? Awesooome. Also it's Austin-freakin-Texas. Music, everywhere music. Go to concerts, walk down South Congress on First Thursday, go to 6th street and bump into celebrities. I do not work to advertise St. Ed's -- what I'm telling you is real, coming from a student going to St. Edward's. I love this school and everything it brings.
Food and Dining The food is great, St. Ed's is catered by Bon Appetit which is an Austin company that gets it's food from Austin farmers. So very local and fresh. There are two major dining facilities with vegetarian, sushi, pasta/pizza, salad bar & station, sandwich station (like subway), and an entree which changes every day.
Dorm Life SO. MUCH. FUN. I loved living on-campus. There's always something to do or someone to see, the RA's have events every month, sometimes twice. There are 6 residence halls incoming freshmen can choose from and all of them have different personalities and prices. The more recent/modern halls are more expensive. I lived in the cheapest hall and had a blast. Teresa hall was very social and we were like our own little family, I traded the nice furniture for the company that T-Hall gave me.
Academic Rigor Wonderful teach/student dynamic. They encourage students to meet with them as much as possible and because professors are required to have office hours they can't say no if you ask to meet with them. They make time to help. This also means there are some difficult times ahead, I'm not going to sugar-coat the work you have to complete. As long as you pay attention and ask for help when you need it you'll do very well. And allow me to just add that in 2010, every single student who applied for Med School after attending St. Edward's got in. 100% of those that applied. They will make sure you know you're stuff before you leave their school with a BA.
Tips for prospective students You want to do well in high school -- the better the grades, the better chance you'll get grants/scholarships. Volunteer! Show them you can be a leader too, they love that. And just realize you're not in high school anymore, in high school I never had to study but as soon as college hit I was studying every night so don't go in thinking you'll have it easy from the get-go.
In three sentences St. Edward's is definitely what I consider a diamond hidden under burnt orange. It's in Austin, Texas (huge music scene), nontraditional, and a melting pot of people. I love that I learn something new every single day

Categories Comments Campus Safety St. Edward's is a very safe campus. UPD patrols constantly throughout campus on bike, golf cart, and car making sure no suspicious activity is going on. That being said, use good judgement in your activities. They have been known to patrol certain parts of campus heavily if that area presents itself as a challenge. UPD is extremely helpful however, and work alongside the residence halls to keep students informed about anything going on around campus. They also use Twitter and Facebook to keep students connected that way.
Greek Life Unfortunately, St. Edward's does not offer your traditional greek life. If this is extremely important to you and your college experience, then you may want to explore your search. There are about five or six organizations that are co-ed academic fraternities that include theater, business, psychology, and even a service oriented frat. Many fraternities and sororities at the University of Texas at Austin recognize that St. Edward's does not offer the traditional greek life, so they leave space open for hilltoppers to rush alongside longhorns. Some students choose to go this route their freshman year.
Clubs and Activities For being a small school, St. Edward's does offer many clubs to chose from based on your interests. As incoming freshman, a survey you fill out during orientation helps to match you to clubs that you might be interested in. Also, Student Life helps to put on an involvement fair in the fall and spring semesters that allow students to explore the variety of clubs offered by St. Edward's. The University Planning Board puts on a variety of events each semester, and each residence hall has many activities. Each year, Residence Life puts on Hall Olympics which brings the campus together.
Great for these types of students Students who are looking to become well rounded and experience more than just what their major has to offer apply here! St. Edward's is extremely focused on their idea of social justice and service outreach. If you like volunteering, then there are many opportunities to serve throughout the year. It is a very social campus since it has around 5,000+ students, so everyone gets to know everyone due to its small campus and small class size. Personally, I was shy in high school but attending St. Edward's really pushed me out of my shell and made me feel comfortable to pursue new friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Edward's is positioned on top of the second highest peak in Austin. The hill that campus sits on is an ancient volcano. Right outside the main building is a pretty spectacular view of downtown Austin, and is featured on many local websites for one of the best places to view Austin. Campus has also become home to a hoard of squirrels, cats, and rabbits to look out at night. A widely known fact about St. Edward's is that some of its buildings are haunted. The Hilltopper Tales are shared at every orientation, which are the various ghost stories surrounding various oddities that happen on and around campus. They are pretty entertaining stories, and has even prompted a ghost hunting club if you are interested in joining!
Bang for the buck With tuition and fees upwards of $40,000+ a year, you will get a lot out of your choice of attending St. Edward's as long as you stay active and engaged. It is true that you get out of something the amount you put into it, and that rings very true in this instance. If you want to be a number at a big school, do not waste your time here. Each student receives personal attention to help guide them along the way. For the location, size, and rigor, St. Edward's has a lot to offer, and is a great investment.
What to do for fun St. Edward's is conveniently located on Austin's extremely popular South Congress Avenue. South Congress offers a unique taste of Austin with many food trailers and trucks, thrift stores, and novelty stores. You are also not far away from the scenic greenbelt that runs through South Austin. St. Edward's is located near four very popular and beautiful entrances. A direct bus route takes you to the Texas State Capital. Many students take advantage of swimming at Barton Springs Pool or kayaking and canoeing on Lady Bird Lake that runs through downtown Austin. There are many yearly festivals that students flock to to have fun. Austin is surrounded by many camp grounds, coffee shops, eclectic stores, and great places to shop and eat.
Food and Dining There is something for everyone to eat on campus, whether you prefer traditional American food or you are a vegan. There are two main dining halls, Hunt Hall and Ragsdale. There is also The Huddle, which offers barbecue and a Chipotle-like style of Mexican food. The food is very good and is made fresh daily from scratch. There is alwasys plenty to choose from whenever you get hungry. St. Edward's is known for using sustainable ingredients, which means that most of their ingredients come from a 150-mile radius, keeping the food fresh and healthy. St. Edward's also offers two on-campus coffee shops through local coffee shop Jo's Coffee, and Starbucks Coffee is served in Hunt Hall alongside a bakery.
Dorm Life Dorm life on campus is great. Each residence hall has their own personality and feel to offer. They offer communities to be apart of and the memories you make last a life time. The RAs in each hall work hard by putting on programs in their respective halls to bring their residents together. Generally, everyone is eager to see how other people have decorated their dorms and that is a great way to make friends on your hall. Everyone is very nice and easy to get along with.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of St. Edward's is challenging, but manageable. Classes build upon one another to continue learning about the topic and ultimately prepare you for your last semesters on campus. Science and math classes are just as challenging as english and history classes. Each major has their demanding courses to no one is left out hard classes. A lot of reading is expected for many courses, and most courses throughout each major are content heavy so you begin to learn about your field as early as your freshman year. Classes are small and can range upwards of 30 students. The largest class you will experience is the mandatory freshman studies seminar of your choice, and even then the class size is no more than 150 students.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, definitely make time to visit campus. Visiting campus allows you to get a better feel for what the university has to offer. Plan to at least sit in on a class or do an overnight stay to see how comfortable you would feel being a student there. Do not be afraid to set up an appointment with admissions to ask them any questions about campus or what you can do to get in as that is what they are there for! They will gladly assist you on making this important decision. Start looking at course catalogs to see the variety of classes they offer to find something that interests you as well.
In three sentences St. Edward's University is a diverse campus focused on preparing students for life after college. Their focus on social justice and service outreach allows each student to become more than just their declared major. St. Edward's is about the student and providing as many opportunities to help them excel in their future careers.

Bang for the buck VERY expensive school. Keep in mind this is a PRIVATE Catholic university.
Tips for prospective students Save your money and plan for years of student loans to pay off.
In three sentences Such a beautiful campus in the heart of the rollings hills of Austin, Texas. Categories Comments Campus Safety Extremely safe. No one ever gets hurt. Dorms are everywhere, and therefore, people are too. There is a bus stop close as well.
Clubs and Activities Over 162 students orgs, and there are only 4000 students in the school. We have an extensive variety of things to do.
Great for these types of students Everyone is welcome. It is an extremely diverse school. Come to St. Eds, and you'll have fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You can see downtown Austin from the soccer field. It looks amazing at night.
Bang for the buck I believe it is an excellent school.
What to do for fun Downtown is close, and there are a lot of student organizations constantly planning on-campus activities.
Food and Dining I really enjoy the vegetarian dishes in the cafeteria.
Dorm Life Excellent way of making friends. And... alcohol allowed for over 21s.
Academic Rigor Not much compared to what it was in Mexico. It is much easier here, however, there is still a demanding education.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know what you want; it will make it easier. However, if you don't know, don't worry... St. Edwards has a lot of very capable staff members to help you in the process of finding out.
In three sentences I believe it is an excellent school. Its professors, and the time you get to spend with them is important to the comprehension of the class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is something that you don't really have to worry about here, mostly because it is pretty safe. There aren't really any reports of crime, violence or theft on campus and we have our University Police Department (UPD).
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities to choose from on this campus, although we don't have any sororities or fraternities. Honestly there are too many clubs to name but in the beginning of each semester they host an event where all the clubs set up booths and you can take a look around and join some. Many of their events are about volunteering or sharing in multi-cultural experiences / traditions.
Bang for the buck Don't buy a shirt. If you plan on attending this college, then don't buy a shirt at the campus store. You get shirts here like crazy. I was told before that they hand out shirts for anything and everything, they were right. Every event, every club, you can bet you'll get a shirt for it. Especially for their events. It is actually pretty awesome. They give out other smaller items as well, but shirts are one of the main things, along with raffles.
What to do for fun St. Edward's is located about ten minutes away from downtown Austin, which keeps you at a close enough distance to have fun, but still be able to come back and focus on school in a quieter environment. We are also located near University of Texas at Austin, so whenever they host events you are able to go and join them. Austin has little shops here and there which are good to go explore in, especially one called Lucy in Disguise which is an incredible costume shop. Austin is a musical and different city which is always fun to explore. They also have First Thursday which is a monthly event where people set up boutiques and sell many of their hand-crafted items. Some other fun things are the food trailers that Austin has, ranging from things in crepes, cupcakes, donuts, to bananas.
Food and Dining Food at St. Edward's tastes really good the first time you are here, but it doesn't change often so if you get bored of the same thing quickly then you might be in trouble. They cook it well and it tastes good, so the food's not bad, it's just that it doesn't change very much so there isn't much variety. There are two dining halls, Hunt and Ragsdale and then you have The Huddle which is a Tex-Mex food place. There is also a little convenient store called Outtakes which is located in Hunt.
Dorm Life The campus has several housing options and as a Freshman you are required to live on campus unless you live in Austin. As a Freshman you will be living in a Freshmen-only dormatory, of which there are four. Teresa Hall is the dorm in which I stayed, it is one of the cheaper ones for girls next to East Hall which is an all girls dorm. Teresa's rooms are a bit smaller than the schools website made them seem, but you get used to it as you continue to live there. Honestly, I was told and I agree that Teresa is probably one of the best dorms to live in, mostly because of the fact that is it such a social environment. Yet it is not too social to the point where it is distracting. You even have other students from other dorms coming to hang out in Teresa. People are more friendly here so making friends is not that difficult, even if you are a quieter person. This dorm is also getting remodeled to have tile floors and new cabinets, desks and closets. Teresa also has some of the best RAs.
Academic Rigor St. Edward's is a smaller campus so you therefore have smaller class sizes. As a result of this, you are able to talk more with your professors and classmates about questions that you have on certain subjects. Professors also like in class participation, so there is an opportunity to ask questions when you have them. I would say that the classes are a bit challenging, but it is not something to be afraid of because there are so many resources available to assist you. Such as the writing and math centers that we have on campus.
Tips for prospective students Unlike most universities, this campus has professors that expect their students to attend class on a regular basis, mainly because class sizes are roughly twenty students at most, so your presence is noticed and appreciated. Most professors expect in class participation and discussion, not only with them but with your other classmates as well. Another big thing for this university is volunteering, they love to host events for students to volunteer in and when applying, it looks good to have participated in volunteering. Although this is a Catholic school, it is also a liberal arts one. While they do have a religious background, they do not require that you attend mass or participate in any religious events of any particular affiliation. They do require that you take one class on religion, however they offer many topics that range from Catholicism to Religion in Harry Potter.
In three sentences St. Edward's is a private Catholic university that is able to focus its attention on each student individually because of its small class sizes. There are many events on campus that follow and raise awareness about current events as well as multicultural issues. Diversity is a big factor as this university has many international students and is located in the heart of Austin, Texas.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Being in Austin, TX, there is always something to do...whether it's go hiking with your friends, going to a concert, or going downtown. The location of the school makes it very easy to explore the city.
Food and Dining St. Edward's offers many different types of food, from Tex-Mex, to Vegetarian. There is always food for everyone. Also, the school emphasizes on health so they used good ingredients and serve healthy food.
Dorm Life Each residence hall puts on various events for students to come together and get to know each other. Most of the dorms are very nice and easy to live in.
Academic Rigor The classes at St. Edward's are very challenging but not impossible. The teachers are ALWAYS available to help you with whatever you need. However, the general education requirements are a little much.
Tips for prospective students Everyone is nervous starting college or transferring to another school. Literally everyone there is friendly so do not be afraid to reach out to different people and make friends!
In three sentences St. Edward's University is a great school with excellent programs for all the different majors. The campus is beautiful and all the students seem to love in. Located in Austin, TX, the university has a lot to offer.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The options can be a little disappointing sometimes, but the attention to specific dietary needs is wonderful.
Dorm Life All of the dorm staff is super friendly. Every dorm has lots of opportunities to meet other residents and have fun.
Academic Rigor As is to be expected, basic classes are far too easy. Once you being to take classes in your major, quality quickly increases. St. Ed's strength lies in its specific coursework.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always feel safe here. The university security are patrolling the streets and campus. I believe more lights should be installed on the campus.
Clubs and Activities Many sports to choose from at this university. Gymnasium fool of activities to choose.
Great for these types of students Great for all students. Their is an abundance of diversity and backgrounds. Activities are planned throughout the year on multicultural events.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Nestled on top of a hill in Austin, TX overseeing the city. Located near townlake that is great place to enjoy a beautiful scenic park. Several activities that is surrounding the beautiful university.
Bang for the buck Lots of computers and libraries throughout campus. Location is great! Can attend many athletic events for free. Lots of shady trees and great study locations throughout campus. Professors try to go over and beyond in helping their students succeed.
What to do for fun Join educational guest speakers on various topics. Gym, and sports activities throughout campus. Great dining options, music venues, and endless amount of entertainment in Austin.
Food and Dining Food is pretty good with a decent array of choices. Not too expensive for a university setting. Nice amount of healthy choices to choose from.
Dorm Life Nice location that is rich with activities. Atmosphere is warm and feels safe from surrounding areas.
Academic Rigor Material is relevant and up to date. A lot of homework is typically assigned. However, as long as one does the work and properly studies the success rate is really good. Professors are very friendly and want their students to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Great university if looking for a smaller individual focus on one's degree. Lots of areas to get involved to feel right at home. Drawback is it is expensive to attend this university.
In three sentences An outstanding university that focuses on equipping their students with up to date material to be competitive in their prospective careers. Dedicated professors and staff in creating an environment that is safe, professional, and educational. Very relaxed atmosphere where I feel very comfortable going to school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University Police Department is on constant patrol around campus, and have emergency call boxes set up in public areas. Escorts for students are also available at night if one does not wish to walk by themselves. All dorms and some other buildings are only accessible by student I.D. -- surveillance in these buildings is also very heavy on the perimeter and lobby.
Greek Life From what I have seen there doesn't seem to be too much activity regarding Greek Life. Then again, with my course load there isn't a particularly large amount of time for such activities.
Clubs and Activities The sheer number of clubs on campus is astounding: interests from social activism, political party activism, to just enjoyable hobbies are available. (And of course, an array of sports clubs to join for those who are interested!) There are not any restrictions to what clubs can be joined -- anything can be signed up for once a freshman walks in the door. Activities are also just as numerous -- campus is usually alive with something to do on any given day.
Great for these types of students For a student that is unsure of their future, and looking for a college where they won't fall through the cracks, this is a college that I would recommend. Those who are also looking for a bit of history and beauty in their time spent in school would also appreciate St. Edward's. Those who are also interested in the sciences will appreciate the award-winning science program at St. Edwards, as well as the (soon to be) newly upgraded building with the latest in technology for researching students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The most unusual traditions I have experienced are the ghost stories passed down to incoming freshmen on orientation -- which do keep the new undergraduates on edge -- and the long kept tradition of not walking on the College seal that rests behind one of the cafeterias on campus. Stray cats can be found wondering campus grounds during the day, and are rather friendly to the students and faculty -- they were originally found during the construction of one of the newer buildings, and are fed through the generosity of donations from students and visitors. Another perk is part of the campus is a very large nature preserve, and is fairly unusual for most colleges -- however taking a stroll through it every once and while is rather fun, and just adds to the overall beauty.
Bang for the buck I would say this is one of the most wonderful colleges I have ever seen and experienced, just walking on campus itself is worth the money spent to go here. With people to help every step along the way, there isn't a doubt about one's future going to this school. I would give a gentle warning to those coming in that tuition to this school is very expensive, as well as on-campus living. If you are not a particularly social student, or a student that is looking for a smooth ride through their subject, I would suggest picking a different school.
What to do for fun St. Edward's hosts an array of events throughout the year to keep any on-campus student engaged. There are plays, lectures, guests, (i.e. comedians, actors, writers, etc.) holiday events, and even concerts held on campus throughout the year.
Food and Dining The food at St. Edward's comes from local farmers and growers, significantly lowering the impact on the environment, while also providing very healthy choices in diet. There is food ranging from Texas Grill to Japanese Sushi, and a wide array of options are available to vegans and vegetarians as well as anyone with a sweet-tooth. The only problem I do have with dining is the hours -- vacation hours for cafeterias are sometimes rather small or non existent on some days, I would press future students to invest in bringing a small fridge to hold extra food in if they aren't going home over break.
Dorm Life Based on what I have encountered, dorm life is as hectic as one would expect from any college, the dorm I lived in had small rooms, as well as community bathrooms. More expensive dorms can range from suites to even on-campus apartments, some of the buildings are very beautiful: with gardens, rec rooms and even the occasional piano. The RA of each dorm will also host activities for the residents, allowing even the most homework-bogged of students to have something to do when they have free time. The RA of each wing are also very kind, helpful individuals who are willing to assist students with problems concerning roommates or maintenance problems. The problem I have with dorms on campus is that sometimes there aren't very accurate presentations of how the rooms are organized on the school website, and sometimes a student might find themselves disappointed with the results.
Academic Rigor This is not by any means an easy A school, nor is it a school that one would expect to go through without being social. The school focuses on teaching its students to broaden their horizons as well as concentrate on their intended major. To put it in the words of their motto: St. Edward's teaches you how to think. Be expected to involve yourself in community and campus projects for in-class grades, do competitive group projects, and dabble in subjects that are not so readily related to your major. This school makes it a point to step students out of their comfort zone of learning.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest to build up scholarship money early for this school, and also make sure you take your education very seriously, but most of all I would recommend keeping an open mind and heart: be expected to encounter diversity.
In three sentences An incredibly beautiful school with a rich, proud history. Small, with attention payed to every student. A bit expensive, but well worth the money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University Police at St. Edward's are a hard working group of policemen and women that constantly patrol the campus. They even offer to escort students to their cars late at night if requested/desired.
Clubs and Activities St. Edward's offers a whole slew of clubs and activities for students. There's even an office (Student Life) devoted to helping these clubs stay organized and recruit new club members.
Great for these types of students This university is great for any student desiring to study liberal arts. It is a very writing, reading, and research heavy institution. If you are a student looking for small classrooms/learning communities, apply here! You'll fit right in!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Sorin Oak on the Hilltop is one of the oldest trees here in Austin, Texas. It was also once the highest point in Austin, Texas and said to have contributed the inspiration behind our founder's desire to create St. Edward's University. The University takes great pride in the oak tree, even entering it in contests as the best tree in Austin.
Bang for the buck St. Edward's is a private institution so... It can get pricey. Tuition has increased for the Fall 2012 school year so you may have to pull out loans just to attend. It costs more to come here than say, attending UT Austin (a public university) but you may benefit by having smaller classes and greater use of campus resources.
What to do for fun St. Edward's has a huge amount of extra-curricular activities offered on campus. The many clubs can range from arts and manga to Hispanic dance and culture. And even if joining these activities aren't your thing, there are many events (Caesar Chavez Week, Writer's Seminars, even movies on the Hilltop) that students can attend for FREE. Wanna get off campus? St. Edward's is located on S. Congress Avenue. Hop the Metro and go shopping at SoCo and pick up some delicious Amy's Ice Cream while your there! Hey! Be adventurous and cruise downtown Austin, it's just a bus ride away.
Food and Dining The dining at St. Edward's prides itself in buying organic, local foods. They also try their best to offer a healthy, non-belt-busting menu to students. However, a downside to this is the fact that the food is quite expensive ($6+ for just chicken tenders and fries) and there doesn't seem to be a great variety when it comes to the menu choices (predictable choices after a while).
Dorm Life I can't say much about the dorm life (I'm a commuter) but I will say I am envious of those who get to experience it. The dorms are small (at least in East) but seem to have a very polite community. The RA's are very kind and are there to help you out in whatever you need.
Academic Rigor The classrooms here are small, maybe a 22 student max per class. Therefor, if you're struggling, there is always an opportunity to ask for help from the professor, rather than seeking out the TA due to a 500+ lecture class. The classes are very writing heavy, so be ready to spend time writing essays, doing research and heavy reading.
Tips for prospective students Remember, GPA isn't everything. Private schools don't automatically accept the top 10% and St. Edward's reviews every application individually, so make sure to make your application shine. Write great essays and really show the Dean's what you got.
In three sentences Very open-minded, kind campus. There is always someone here to help you with anything (from financial aid to one-on-one counseling). Very kind, helpful, calm school environment.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck With tuition at around 31k a year the cost is somewhat high, but the experience is priceless.
What to do for fun Austin's social scene is infinitely vast. Music, Theater, Dance, Food, Sports, are some of the highlighted categories one thinks of coming to Austin. One can practically find any passion, explore it, and enjoy it with others.
Food and Dining With two main cafeterias serving a variety of entrées and snacks, the food choices are endless. Eat different foods or eat a cold sandwich for every day of the week, your choice!
Academic Rigor The work put into your studies is a reflection of your grade. Professors are always willing to help you and the various Academic Centers are available when needed. To get the A, you need to try your hardest. Period.
Tips for prospective students As an incoming freshman, getting to know those in your dorm and participating in campus activities are the best ways to find yourself at St. Edward's.
In three sentences A tight-nit, convivial, student atmosphere is displayed at St. Edward's University. Students, Professors, and staff, all have an active role in each others' lives and contribute to the school's mission statement--the courage to take risks, to have an international perspective, respect for the whole person, and a commitment to social justice.

Great for these types of students ALL students will do well here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a seal on the sidewalk. Out of respect for our founders, we always avoid walking on it.
Bang for the buck Worth every penny!
What to do for fun Check the calendar. St. Edwards always has something going on on campus.
Food and Dining So many choices for vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike!
Dorm Life I do not stay in the dorms, but my friends love them.
Academic Rigor Very challenging, but the faculty is available to help. I come out of every class having learned a great deal!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck if you have the money to spend, it's a great school. if you don't have the extra cash, they have scholarships, and there are always things you can do to save money, but it really is worth the money, especially the class sizes.
What to do for fun downtown is just a four minute drive or bus pass away. besides that, there are plenty of clubs to keep you entertained, and the general student population is so welcoming, that it's easy to find someone to spend time with.
Food and Dining the food quality is amazing. a lot of the food is grown or raised locally, and there is always a vegetarian option, which are delicious, hippie or not. there is always something good it eat.
Dorm Life some of the dorms aren't very social, but overall, i give it a good rating. there are always places to study and be serious or just hang out in the game room.
Academic Rigor you are expected to do well, but you never have to do it alone. there's always some other student you can talk to about problems in class, and if you for some reason can't find one, there is always a professor with their door open.
Tips for prospective students this school has a beautiful campus for those who love the outdoors, and for those who prefer the nightlife, downtown is a four minute drive away. a wide variety of students go here, and it's easy to find your niche.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The school isn't in the best part of town but I am yet to hear of an incident where a student has been hurt on campus because of this. There are lots of UPD on campus though and alert stations in case your ever in trouble.
Greek Life There are fraternities on campus but all fraternities are coed and there are no frat houses. This leads to no sororities and a pretty boring greek life as far as partying but the fraternities are still available and do have some activities and are good to put on a resume for grad school.
Clubs and Activities The school is very often putting on events and the office of student life is very good at planning fun events.
Bang for the buck As a private school it is pricey but I feel with the merit scholarships it evens out the price. Also, I feel it is worth it to pay more for a private university in exchange for the small class sizes and personal reltionaships it allows you to have with your professors.
What to do for fun Since its located on South Congress there is alot going on all the time and its only a few minutes from downtown. Also Austin is like a college kids disney land with a city whose population is almost 30% under 25, a crazy night life, and the live music capital of the world.
Food and Dining I wasn't impressed the food but its not bad. I was happy that their meat was all naturally raised though and they use produce from sustainable farming techniques.
Dorm Life I would tell everyone to live in Theresa if your going to live in dorms. These are the dorms in the worst shape and the cheapest but they are also the most fun. Although it can be loud at times I found a real since of community in these dorms that weren't in the nicer dorms.
Academic Rigor The school is overall moderately hard. There are some classes that are required due to the fact that it is catholic university that I thought were simplistic and not necessary but overall the classes for my major were definately challenging.
Tips for prospective students Study for your SAT's as they have a huge influence on merit scholarships and if your grades aren't up to par spend a year at community college first. I decided to do community college for a year because my high school grades weren't what I wanted to be, and after community college I was able to get alot of merit scholarships in order to make the school more affordable.
In three sentences St Edwards University is a beautiful campus only a few minutes from downtown and is a very fun neighborhood on South Congress. The school is full of great proffessors who challenge students academically and thanks to small classes they are always available to meet one on one and discuss issues. For me, being a political science major, being in the capitol of Texas has given me many oppurtunities to work in the government and internships influencing government.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students St. Ed's is great for those that don't want to be in a huge auditorium where the student professor ratio is 1 to 200 plus. The ration is more like 1 to 15/25.
Tips for prospective students Fight for the Arts!! They want to make St. Ed's a Business/Science school. Most of the money goes to these departments. The arts building is tiny but the program is growing rapidly every year! Don't let them fade us out!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students St. Edward's is great for students who are looking into a career in business, love art, enjoy writing, and want a good religious studies education. If you like to give back to your community, then St. Edward's is the place to be.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to approach professors with questions, because they will appreciate it. Remember that there are services offered and they are there to be used. If you want to make the best out of your college experience, then get involved as much as you can. Of course do not stretch yourself too thin, and do not lose sight of why you are at St. Edward's in the first place.
Bang for the buck Yes, St. Edward's gives you a run for your money, but keep in mind that quality costs. Aid is offered to those students that really need it, so do not let the cost be a problem. Find how St. Edward's can help you. The quality of the professors and classes will be worth it in the end.
Am enjoying being here I love being at St. Edward's. I truly believe that I made the right choice when I decided to come here. I was not sure what to expect, but I knew that I wanted a small college environment. St. Edward's has given me so much; I came here not knowing anybody, but I soon became involved and made friends. Campus Ministry has offered me a community and I enjoy the company those individuals who I can call my family. Being a part of FCA has also offered me a different community, but still one that I enjoy spending time in. St. Edward's gives students the opportunity to decide how involved they want to be, and is welcoming to those who want to be a part of something.
Am learning a lot I am currently a Sophomore at St. Edward's University and am pursuing a double major in Psychology and Criminology. Over the past year I have taken a wide range of classes in these areas, and have extended my knowledge. I definitely look forward to my classes that are relevant to my major. They are very informative and most professors genuinely enjoy their job. As a whole St. Edward's is diverse and offers opportunities to all. I come from a predominantly Hispanic community and have come to love the diversity that is offered not only in race/ethnicity, but also in cultures, religion, and the different personalities of the individuals that attend St. Edward's. It is truly a joy that my Professors know my name and I am not just a number to them; there doors are always open for their students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who like to do service and learn about different cultures. Small beautiful campus with hyper squirrels and good community.
Tips for prospective students There will be tons of reading and writing depending on your major ( I'm currently a psychology major) but once you get in the rhythm it is not so bad as long as you study. there are always activities going on and the best thing to do the first year is to get as involved as possible while classes are still calmer.
Bang for the buck It is a higher priced college, in my case I applied myself in school and got involved in service and activities. They offer good scholarships and grants, but if you happen to not receive any your first year there is always work study and there are scholarships offered for later years as well just keep up your grades. I definitely feel like I am getting my moneys worth
Am enjoying being here My dorm is the oldest and smallest but it is the coolest one. I love the people that I have met and feel very at home. Don't be afraid to get lost on campus because it is small and there will likely be something going on to stay busy.
Academic Rigor All of the classes that I take are very interesting and the teachers love what they teach. I feel more aware of issues around the world and am very open to try new things. Not just in the classroom but outside events are educational. My favorite is participating in cultural events such as Bollywood dancing that I happened to participate in by chance.

Bang for the buck Its a little on the expensive side, but its worth it.
Will enjoy being here The campus is very beautiful and diverse. The students and teachers are all very kind and will help you in any way. Also, you wont get lost.
Will learn a lot The programs that are offered here are all very excellent, and the campus has a lot of unique people that re willing to share there experience with others.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any and all committed students that are passionate about global issues, being environmentally conscious, and intelligent.
Tips for prospective students Research the school and make sure it will be a good fit for you.
Bang for the buck The school's tuition is expensive, but the school does its best to work with you and make the tuition more affordable.
Will enjoy being here With all the different activities (especially service) provided on campus and from the city with different live music and museum events, there is something for everyone in the city of Austin and at SEU.
Will learn a lot Already having spoken to multiple professors and even attending a 30 minute class during a preview day, I am blown away by the teachers' thorough knowledge of their subject matter and their passion for the different subjects.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students St. Edward's is great for religious studies, but also for any artsy people. St. Edward's keeps an Austin wierdness about it, so if you do not fit in at the moment, you can probably fit in here just by being different. St. Edward's is also very big on giving back, so if you love to volunteer or help others they offer many opportunities. St. Edward's is very welcoming to any student, and if you are curious if you would fit in just come and see it! They allow you to stay the night with a student, and love to give tours!
Tips for prospective students Once you get here, get involved! Do not be intimidated; everyone truly wants you to get involved. When you have classes, do not be afraid to talk/ask your professor anything. Get out of your shell - meet others. Keep up with your grades... even though Austin offers a lot of freedom and opportunity, especially with Barton Springs right down the street, do not neglect your school work. A big tip I personally can share is make sure you park in the correct area and always display your parking tag.
Bang for the buck Yes, St. Edward's is expensive, but when you look at all that you receive, I think it is worth the price. If you have just started looking at the price, do not immediately cross off St. Ed's for their price - they offere quite a few scholarships and grants. The school is very nice, and very clean. The professors are unbelievably helpful. The class size is a major plus. Campus UPD is constantly surveilling the campus. The biggest drawback for the price is the food offered... it is quite a bit pricy. You pay for small size, a nice atmosphere, and for a private college, and you get more than you realize. When you turn into St. Edward's it is like you are turning into a section of Austin that is it's own community, all green and clean, and that is something I am willing to pay for.
Am enjoying being here I am finishing up my second year at St. Edward's, and I absolutely love it here. I can honestly say that I did consider transferring after my freshman year, but I am so very happy I gave it one more chance. The small school size is what attracted me to begin with, and I have come to embrace and love this fact more and more. The more hours you have taken, the harder the class become and I am very thankful to be able to take these classes in a small environment with professors that CARE. Another big ammenity I love is that I feel secure at all times due to constant UPD surveillance. Now that I have been here for almost 2 complete years, and I have done projects and become involved with activities, I know quite a few people around campus and it is awesome being able to walk through campus and say hey to people you know. In general (there are always the few that do not fit this statement), every one is nice and very friendly here... even the cafeteria workers! This year has been delightful for me.
Am learning a lot Thanks to St. Edward's I have learned very much, and it is not just in the academic realm. Being a student at St. Edward's gives you a chance to learn about others, especially because of the small town feel that makes the campus a community. The student population as a whole is very diverse, and although the university is Roman Catholic, it is in no way populated with only Roman Catholics. Due to this, I have learned cultural aspects and how to have relationships with individuals different from myself in a way I have never been able to before. In the classroom, I am constantly challenged by the wonderful professors and also with peers in my classroom. It is a very welcoming learning environment, and for me St. Edward's really helps nurture my learning by allowing me the opportunity to be in a small class size where my teacher knows ME as a person. Professors are willing to help, listen, and support their students which really encourages me to learn. But, the greatest thing I have learned is to give back to others, and St. Edward's allows many opportunities through Campus Ministry. Alternative Spring Break is a fantastic learning experience that enables the volunteer to dedicate their spring break to one of many service experience sites. You learn so much from being immersed in another's culture and lifestyle that I would have to say this is St. Ed's greatest attribute to student learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students My interest in art has always been present in my life. From early childhood, I would always draw instead of playing with dolls, I would paint instead o playing sports, and I would collage instead of watching television.
Tips for prospective students Fill out all applications for scholarships, leaving no blanks. Help the community not only for scholarship advancement but for yourself and the community, you will find the more you give the more you get in return and not just monetary gain but self respect.
Bang for the buck It is very expensive for my parents to send me here even with my scholarships from SEU but it is very important for me to receive a good education. Although my parents did not go to college they both have worked hard and have good jobs. They know that most job fields require a decent education. To maintain a good job that will make good money will require a college education. Education is the first and foremost way to become successful.
Am enjoying being here I am currently in several clubs at St. Edward’s University involving art, design and environmental conversation. I also intern at a design firm every Friday for ten to twelve hours trying to get experience in the field while having an on campus job. You meet different people from all over the country and have the opportunity to understand their way of thinking.
Am learning a lot I am attending St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and plan on getting a degree in graphic design. In my high school and college career I have taken as many art classes and advanced placement art classes involving many different mediums. I hope to get a job where I can advance my knowledge and that can somehow help people and the environment. I would enjoy introducing people to new environmental conscious designs and elements.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who like personalized attention and want to become global leaders. St. Edward's offers so many leadership programs that help build your credentials as well as teach you skills needed to work in groups -- FOR FREE.
Tips for prospective students Be open and friendly. Join the student organizations. Network with your professors.
Bang for the buck St. Edward's is very expensive since it is a private university. But they have awesome scholarship opportunities for anyone who wants to come here. The financial aid office will help however they can with assisting you in your college education.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here when the campus is busy. Everyone is always nice and open to conversation, most of the time. On the weekends, everyone usually leaves and campus life is so dead.
Am learning a lot I love the way St. Edward's emphasizes the importance of education accenting it with the understanding about the mission of community we have here. At this school, I have learned to think and re-think, research, and all the things I'm learning can be applied to real-life situations.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students For being a private Catholic university, St. Edward's offers a great liberal arts education. Those who want small classes, great professors, and want a liberal arts education should definitely give St. Ed's a try.
Tips for prospective students Do your research when applying for St. Ed's and make sure that they have the major you want. Currently, the school is expanding on its majors and it may be some time before the major you want is applied here. Also, the university has a great study abroad program for those interested.
Bang for the buck Because it is a private school, the tuition here is a little high. Don't let that get you down, though. The university has many scholarships and it never hurts to look in other places for extra scholarships. For the price you're paying, you're getting a great education and have a beautiful campus to learn on.
Am enjoying being here The campus itself is simply beautiful and it has a great atmosphere and feels like home. There are always plenty of opportunities to meet new people from all of the activities that UPB plans or the multitude of clubs you could join. I'm in my second semester and I'm still meeting new people!
Am learning a lot The student to teacher ratio is simply wonderful. At most large universities you will probably be one person in a sea of many. Here at St. Ed's, your professor knows your name and they are always willing to talk with you, be it to discuss an assignment or just talk about something interesting you learned in class.

Tips for prospective students Research St. Edward's before applying. Make sure they have a major you want to pursue and courses that you will enjoy taking. If you like really structured, slightly repetitive courses, you will not fit well at St. Edward's.
Bang for the buck While the curriculum is superb and the other aspects of the university are amazing, there is still something lacking. I think that the university could do more to make us feel like a family, while we are away from our own families.
Am enjoying being here St. Edward's is a wonderful campus to be attending. There are numerous events happening each day on campus as well as events brought to you by Student Life that occur in the evenings and on the weekends. The dining halls always have various options for the healthy eaters, the carb lovers, the vegetarians and the meat lovers. The dorms are amazing and you always meet someone new everyday.
Am learning a lot The information is being taught in a whole different way than it was taught in high school. Sometimes the professors lecture and other times we as a class have discussions about the material for that day's class. I always leave class knowing something new.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for any kind of student. Anyone is bound to make friends and find some activity of interest. The residence halls try to get people to socialize and there is any kind of personality in this school.
Tips for prospective students For sure apply to outside scholarships to pay for school. Get involved as soon as you can because it really makes the experience. There are a lot of resources for students and so I recommend the career planning office for internships.
Bang for the buck Being a private school it is more expensive but they do offer you some aid. I no doubt had to seek other scholarships and take out loans to cover the cost but as of right now it feels worth it to me.
Am enjoying being here The moment I stepped on campus I felt like I belonged there. The school has to best view of Austin in town and the campus is small enough to make it feel like home. There are a lot of ways to get involved with clubs and internships.
Am learning a lot Every single class I have taken here I feel like I have learned at least one important thing. Even the basic classes I found to be interesting because I haven't had a bad professor yet.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want meaningful classroom time and have an interest in a liberal arts education.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarhips. Visit the beautiful campus. Great if you enjoy living in urban settings and have a desire to contribute to local community.
Bang for the buck Being a private university without government funding, a higher tuition price is expected. The benefit is the larger amount of scholarship offered due to a larger endowment pool. The teacher-student relationships established are invaluable.
Am enjoying being here Smaller classes allow each student to receive the individual attention necessary. Faculty, students, and staff create a friendly atmosphere in which everybody has something important to contribute.
Am learning a lot Definitely effectively offers a well-rounded liberal arts education. A strong focus on making ethical decisions throughout life as a world citizen. Curriculum teaches not only to accept diversity but to embrace it.
