Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York

Rochester, NY, USA

Located in Rochester, NY, the Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York is an American Lithuanian-style Haredi, but non-Hasidic yeshiva. All-male, TIUNY caters to both high school- and college-age individuals and prides itself on what is described as “a warm and caring environment.” Because of the relatively small size of the institution, the Rabbi spends several hours a day working one-on-one with students. The Bais Medrash, or undergraduate-level in Orthodox yeshivas, is entirely integrated with the high school, and students of all levels eat, live, and learn various sedarim together.

Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.
