Honestly, it's college, it's going to be expensive. But Tech is reaching Tier one status which puts it in line with A&M and UT and I think its still slightly cheaper than both of those.

If you are not receiving any scholarships or financial aid, the price of the school doesn't balance with the negative aspects of the school. It is very far away from most people's hometown, and unless you were a die-hard Tech fan beforehand, paying full price is not worth it. With some aid, though, it definitely makes it worth it.

Compared to most schools of comparable size and quality, Texas Tech University offers a reasonable tuition rate and great scholarship packages for high achieving students. However, there is not a great deal of opportunity for current students to increase their scholarship packages. Some scholarships can be renewed on an annual basis. Departmental scholarships, however, are usually not renewable, are highly competitive, and are typically around $1,000. Nevertheless, Texas Tech is a remarkably good deal. Not only do tuition and fees provide access to an excellent education, but they also provide access to services and amenities including the campus Recreations Center, free legal services, health services, and a massive library.

This is a public university, so it's average to low cost for what you're paying for. Personally, I'm very happy with what I've gotten out of it. I don't know if I'm biased because I love my college. Everyone that goes to tech seems to absolutely love it and have a lot of spirit towards the school.
