Academic Rigor I feel like I'm earning a fake degree.
Tips for prospective students Pros: Very diverse student body, all ages, races, abilities; some teachers (Brawner, Phillips) are incredible (most others are incompetent and shouldn't be teaching); focus on becoming a multiculturally competent counselor; lots of self reflection and discussion based classes; campus is right downtown, very accessible by metro/bus; practitioner/teacher model, most professors are working in the field as well. Cons: Classes are too large (many of my classes have had 30+ students in them, CACREP standards require 12 or fewer. Head of the department is always defensive and unapproachable, does not respond to emails from students (that said, she is the new president of the ACA, so she is obviously qualified for her job, just not very good at it). SCHOOL IS NOT CACREP ACCREDITED. Professors have very low standards. The program was supposed to switch over from counseling psychology to clinical mental health counseling and we were supposed to receive information about the new required class list by January- we are yet to hear anything about this. Many professors don't allow computers in classes.
In three sentences Large classes. Wouldn't recommend. You get what you pay for?
