Categories Comments What to do for fun Since the school is located in the medical center it is not far from downtown Houston. There is plenty of shopping food museums and tons of stuff to do.
Food and Dining The school is located in the medical center so food is not hard to find and a pretty good selection
Dorm Life I live off campus
Academic Rigor Haven't started class just yet but the school is known to be challenging
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades high and don't give up

Categories Comments Bang for the buck This school's tuition is so much cheaper than any other school I have looked at. I feel like I am really getting my money's worth by attending this school. But just be prepared to pay quite a bit for housing if you are moving to the Medical Center.
What to do for fun Sometimes, UT hosts certain events to gather all of the different schools together. For instance, last semester, the school had a Renaissance Festival. There are also certain clubs that you can join, depending upon which school you attend. There is also the rec center to go work out at for free if you are a student. It's small and can get pretty crowded, but it has everything you need. Plus, there are also some fun workout classes that you can attend if you pay a certain amount per class or semester.
Food and Dining There are plenty of restaurants to eat around the medical center. If you walk down Fannin Street, you will see Chipotle, Subway, Salata, etc. And there are many dining places at the Commons. And if you want to venture out a little further, Rice Village and Montrose have plenty of restaurants as well. Houston is huge, so you will have no problem finding places to eat at all hours of the day.
Dorm Life There are not any dorms at this school, but there is plenty of off-campus housing that is very close by to the school. There are also off-campus apartments provided by the school that offer better rates for rent than the other nearby apartment complexes, but, from what I have heard, you have to put your name on a wait-list way ahead of time in order to secure an apartment. So if you want to live in one of the apartment complexes provided by the school, I would suggest putting your name on their list as soon as you receive your acceptance letter.
Academic Rigor This is a very challenging school. I am a student at the School of Nursing, and they truly expect a lot out of their students. Before attending nursing school, I was able to make A's on my exams without trying too hard. Now, I could study diligently for days, yet still make a B on an exam. The work is manageable, but the professors expect you to know everything.
Tips for prospective students Learn how to manage your time well! I think this is the biggest issue I still have to do this day, but if you learn how to manage your time before attending this school, the coursework will be much more manageable.
In three sentences UTHSC - Houston is a well known, highly regarded school for students seeking a career in the medical field. The school is located in the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world. The school is dedicated to educating and challenging their students to create well-prepared health care professionals for the future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe in the campus. However, one need to be careful in travelling alone and during night. UT Police is always available to drop the student to Housing if required.
Greek Life None
Clubs and Activities Various active organisations.
Great for these types of students Great for international students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None
Bang for the buck The most affordable of top public health school. Houston is voted as the coolest city to study. Graduating from this place is worth all the money you will spend here.
What to do for fun Food!! Lolz..There are lots of state parks to explore. Museum district is awesome. If you are into international stuff, you don't want to miss the opportunities of attending several festivals from different countries. Also there happens a lot of language exchange programs. In school, we have a lot of student organisations doing fun stuff like various global health events, training opportunities in epidemiology, field opportunities, public health movies screening and best is diversity fair. Come and experience!! You would love it.
Food and Dining Although there is no mess facility, but there is no limit to the availability of food options here in Houston. Grocery stores are nearby and there are so many international grocery stores available too. Houston is a city of foodies, You will find best food from almost all the cuisines here in Houston. But need to keep a check on what you eat, not to forget Houston is the biggest/Fattest city of USA too.
Dorm Life There is no dorm facility here in Texas Medical Center. The University Housing is pretty decent with warm atmosphere. Housing is inexpensive and safe. The old housing is infested with roaches but the newer apartments are quite livable. There is new housing under construction, expected to be available from next year. UT Housing is difficult to get due to high demand. I feel lucky to get one.
Academic Rigor I love all my professors and the coursework is doable as well as challenging. I like the grading system and easy of communication with faculty. Course work is rigorous for few challenging courses. However, most classes doesn't require much effort.
Tips for prospective students Come with a focus, you will get every help to get succeed. If don;t have a focus, you will be able to develop it during your stay here in the center. Don't hesitate to communicate with as many people as you can. Networking is the key in order to explore your interests.
In three sentences I feel lucky to get admitted to worlds largest health science center. If you are interested in cancer research, there is no limit to the number of opportunities you can avail. Perfect school, perfect health science center, perfect blend of diversity.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is campus police patrolling constantly and there is security at the school up to 11pm. Doors lock from 10pm-6am and the only way into the building is to have a UTHSC ID badge.
Great for these types of students Hard working, dedicated, type-A personality.
What to do for fun Student groups gather and have sports activities early Monday mornings.
Food and Dining In the middle of the Texas Medical Center there are plenty of hospitals within walking distance that have amazing cafeterias available for lunch.
Dorm Life There are no dorms, but the Green Briar Apartments are a great place to live if you want to be close to school.
Academic Rigor I got through high school without studying, I also finished all my basics with a max of 1-2 hours of studying a night making straight A's. Here at UTHSC-SON, I average a minimum of 6 hrs of study time a night and I make B's. It is extremely challenging.
Tips for prospective students Know which study skills are you're strong points. Master time management. Work your hardest. Be prepared for your life to be consumed with school.
In three sentences UTHSC-SON is a nursing school that definitely challenges you and makes you try your hardest to achieve your dream. The staff is helpful and positive. Students stick together and help each other out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You must wear a badge at all times, and there's a security officer in the entrance to the building that will stop you if you don't have a badge.
Greek Life None here I'm afraid.
Clubs and Activities Student government, other nursing organization meetings and groups.
Great for these types of students Dedicated.
Bang for the buck I couldn't recommend a better school to attend, especially if you live in Houston. It's a great education with strong comraderie among the students and faculty.
What to do for fun We didn't do very much as a class except for an occasional happy hour. Most of us had very different schedules, as well as families.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is good but pricey. Most students chose to bring their own lunch. You are given an hour for lunch break.
Dorm Life I lived off campus.
Academic Rigor This program is very intense, but very worthwhile. Study, do well on exams, and your final at the end of the semester will be a breeze. Open up to an entirely new though process your professors will open your mind to.
Tips for prospective students Get ready to devote the majority of your time to your studies. Working full time and attending school full time can be very challenging, but with dedication one can still excel. Have a blast on the journey, you're going to meet some great friends!
In three sentences This is an accredited school that provides an excellent education. It is not only one of the best nursing schools in the state, but also the nation. The faculty are very helpful and supportive.
