UTHSC - Houston is a well known, highly regarded school for students seeking a career in the medical field. The school is located in the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world. The school is dedicated to educating and challenging their students to create well-prepared health care professionals for the future.
Tips for prospective students
Learn how to manage your time well! I think this is the biggest issue I still have to do this day, but if you learn how to manage your time before attending this school, the coursework will be much more manageable.
Academic Rigor
This is a very challenging school. I am a student at the School of Nursing, and they truly expect a lot out of their students. Before attending nursing school, I was able to make A's on my exams without trying too hard. Now, I could study diligently for days, yet still make a B on an exam. The work is manageable, but the professors expect you to know everything.
Dorm Life
There are not any dorms at this school, but there is plenty of off-campus housing that is very close by to the school. There are also off-campus apartments provided by the school that offer better rates for rent than the other nearby apartment complexes, but, from what I have heard, you have to put your name on a wait-list way ahead of time in order to secure an apartment. So if you want to live in one of the apartment complexes provided by the school, I would suggest putting your name on their list as soon as you receive your acceptance letter.
Food and Dining
There are plenty of restaurants to eat around the medical center. If you walk down Fannin Street, you will see Chipotle, Subway, Salata, etc. And there are many dining places at the Commons. And if you want to venture out a little further, Rice Village and Montrose have plenty of restaurants as well. Houston is huge, so you will have no problem finding places to eat at all hours of the day.
What to do for fun
Sometimes, UT hosts certain events to gather all of the different schools together. For instance, last semester, the school had a Renaissance Festival. There are also certain clubs that you can join, depending upon which school you attend. There is also the rec center to go work out at for free if you are a student. It's small and can get pretty crowded, but it has everything you need. Plus, there are also some fun workout classes that you can attend if you pay a certain amount per class or semester.
Bang for the buck
This school's tuition is so much cheaper than any other school I have looked at. I feel like I am really getting my money's worth by attending this school. But just be prepared to pay quite a bit for housing if you are moving to the Medical Center.

Tips for prospective students
Come with a focus, you will get every help to get succeed. If don;t have a focus, you will be able to develop it during your stay here in the center. Don't hesitate to communicate with as many people as you can. Networking is the key in order to explore your interests.
Academic Rigor
I love all my professors and the coursework is doable as well as challenging. I like the grading system and easy of communication with faculty. Course work is rigorous for few challenging courses. However, most classes doesn't require much effort.
Dorm Life
There is no dorm facility here in Texas Medical Center. The University Housing is pretty decent with warm atmosphere. Housing is inexpensive and safe. The old housing is infested with roaches but the newer apartments are quite livable. There is new housing under construction, expected to be available from next year. UT Housing is difficult to get due to high demand. I feel lucky to get one.
Food and Dining
Although there is no mess facility, but there is no limit to the availability of food options here in Houston. Grocery stores are nearby and there are so many international grocery stores available too. Houston is a city of foodies, You will find best food from almost all the cuisines here in Houston. But need to keep a check on what you eat, not to forget Houston is the biggest/Fattest city of USA too.
