Students must submit either The Common Application or apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) but not both.

For UCAS applications

The UCAS code name and number for this University is BRISL B78.

We will consider applicants with the following qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma with a GPA of 3.0 minimum
  • Either an SAT with at least 1830 combined score (with no score less than 610 in any section) or ACT with a score of at least 26
  • Plus one of the following:
  • Three SAT Subject Tests of at least 650 (700+ for competitive courses) in each subject
  • Three AP subjects of at least 4 (5 for competitive courses) in class A subjects
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • British A-Levels
  • High School Graduation Diploma combined with appropriate foundation/bridging program.

  • Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a U.S. University degree will also be considered for admission to the first year of our Bachelor degree courses.

    N.B. 1 - We do not generally require any standardized tests, but students for UG Law will need to take the LNAT, but Medicine applicants are not required to take the UKCAT test or the BMAT.

    N.B. 2 - Please note that competition for places at Bristol is very strong, so the achievement of the qualifications listed above does not guarantee that an offer will be made. We aim to get you a response as quickly as possible to help you plan your studies.

    How to apply online


    The standard requirement for entry to a taught Masters programme at Bristol is an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree that is equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree (also known as a 2:1).

    A GPA of 3.2 is considered equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree.


    Applicants who hold a 2-year Masters degree from the United States or a 1 Year Masters from the United Kingdom will be considered for admission to PhD study. A research proposal is required.
