you can always kick around a soccerball on the green or go work out at the rec center. take the time to go through bsync in the uab website and look for extracurricular activities you can be part of. be productive and don't let your college day to day be the same.

There is so much to do for fun. The many different pools at the rec center. The rock climbing wall and the Dragon's den are just a couple great hangout spots.

UAB is in a city, so there is always something to do. Although Greek life isn't huge, there is always some kind of frat party. I spend most of my money on concert tickets. There are some pretty cool venues here like Iron City and Saturn that always have good shows. I saw Purity Ring in the beginning of the semester at Iron City. There are also great places for hiking, great restaurants and good shopping that are just a short drive away.

It seems like there is always something going on at UAB! For welcoming the freshman, UAB hosted a Parachute concert for anyone to go to, and the best part was that it was free! Of course in Birmingham and in surrounding areas in general there is lots to do. I will focus on that since UAB is good at advertising their events. If you're into thrifting, What's on 2nd is a must! Probably on the list of coolest places I've been to because you will never know what you will find. If you like nature or enjoy running, I would recommend Railroad Park. It's conveniently only a few blocks away from UAB's campus, and it is truly an amazing and beautiful addition to the city. If you are a photographer, like myself, this is the place to be! Oak Mountain State Park is also a nice place to visit here and there. It is a little further away in Pelham, but it is outrageously beautiful. Overall, there is really something for everyone in Birmingham, specifically UAB, but you just have to find the right thing for you!

The Rec Center here is pretty amazing. They have a huge pool and a huge hot tub, as well as a climbing wall, multiple basketball courts, a full track, and lots of equipment and rooms to work out in. The green is also a pretty nice place to chill when the weather is nice, a lot of people put up hammocks and such. The libraries are also pretty great to get homework done and work on group projects with other people. The sororities and fraternities are always throwing parties and events so something is almost always going on.

There are so many things to do for fun here! You can take a short drive to Oak Mountain State Park and hike, kayak, paddle board, or swim in the lake. You can go visit the Vulcan. There's also an area called Five Points that is really close to campus, and it is filled with good restaurants.

The recreation center is often enjoyable and used by students, alumni, and many surrounding citizens of the area. The Green is a fun place to hangout, relax, or even partake in activities such as Frisbee, soccer, or even a good game of football. Also, it is utilized for skateboarding, bicycling, and just a great walking trail to ease your mind.
