  • Sep-20-2015 I am researching this school and have visited the campus

The campus itself has attractions such as a gym or sporting events. The surrounding area is pretty bland but Yosemite is only an hour or so away and San Francisco is only about two hours away. So, during the week, you can find little things to do around or on campus and then go to San Francisco or Yosemite over the weekend.

There are so many little workshops that can be pretty fun that take you out of your comfort zone and help you meet new people. There are also events that hold information booths that mix learning with fun.

There is a lake walking distance from the university. It is beautiful during summer. You can visibly see the tree leaves change color from season to season, unlike the trees in LA. You can take buses into town. There are, I think, three theaters in town. Although the buses aren't very reliable here, they can take you around town. You can go shopping at ROSS, Target, Sears. There aren't many stores here but there are a few good places to eat, like Panera Bread.

I personally like to go outside with my guitar and just play. I also like to stay indoors and play guitar, or I rent the music room and I play piano there for an hour or two.

The University of California Merced is not by any means close to the rest of the city of Merced- it is located more in the outskirts of the city, and isolated. While transportation is provided in terms of a bus system, even in the city of Merced there is not much to do at all. Even if students were to take advantage of the transportation provided, to get to town the bus ride overall can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long. In regards to the city of Merced, there really is nothing to do. Students at the University mainly depend on activities that take place on campus for something to do. Events are planned by RAâ??s and organizations regularly, usually at least once a week. These activities allow students at UC Merced to have something to do, since the city of Merced doesnâ??t really provide anything significantly fun.

The school may be a little out of the ways bu there are things to do if you find them. There our movie theaters, Yosemite's is close so you can go hiking or go to the slopes. If you want to be active there are many clubs, sororities, or fraternities to join, just choose by what interest you. You also receive messages on various events that are taking place through your email.
